You are Clarissa, a high-school student, Kimiko's Substitute Shinigami and one of Karakura Town's spiritual protectors.

"I have a few questions for you," You say, and the man nods, indicating for you to continue. "Can I get to Soul Society by using your powers? Can I just 'wish' myself there?"

"You cannot, not until you at least learn how it is usually done. Right now, you simply don't know what to wish for."

You hang your head and sigh, but this is about as much as you expected. It seems that your only way into Soul Society is through another Shinigami, after all.

"You said you're based on Kimiko's Zanpakuto, or something like that. So does that mean you look like her sword?" You ask, at which the golden man shakes his head and smiles.

"My form is as I want it to be. I saw the woman that is her sword, but we look nothing alike. The form I currently possess is based primarily on yourself, with changes I deemed appropriate to suitably differentiate myself from you." He explains. You find his explanation contradictory, in a way - he often refers to himself as being 'you' and vice versa, yet apparently cares enough about standing out to reverse genders. At the same time, he doesn't care to have his own name...

This guy has always been a locked box full of mysteries. Even though he is supposedly 'you', you hardly know anything about him. His motivation is to make you happy, but why does it matter to him, and what exactly does 'being happy' mean to him?

Describing happiness is difficult and largely pointless, as each person holds their own definition and understanding of the concept. So perhaps the Hogyoku has reached his own conclusion as well.

(1/2)
>>
>>42148262
And... his conclusion is different from yours, even though he claims to be 'you'. And because of that difference, it's far too unlikely that you will ever get along. Not for as long as the happiness of one is so unfairly linked to the happiness of the other.

You close your eyes. The man doesn't say anything, most likely assuming that you are thinking something over. He remains silent, letting you concentrate.

You can feel it. An indescribable sensation that rings throughout your soul and mutely alerts you to the presence of the spiritual. Even in this world the concepts and rules remain the same.

But... that alone isn't good enough. Just being aware of the presence isn't enough. You need to find that girl, and just knowing that she's here isn't enough.

If this world is, at its core, just like the other, then this should work.

Just like before, you visualize the spiritual threads. You focus on each one individually, but only for a brief moment, and then give them their proper form.

Your eyes open... and your heart sinks. The Hogyoku's eyes are wide in shock and surprise as he observes the results. You've always believed your world to be empty and peaceful, with only you and the golden man as its inhabitants, with that girl to make a total of three threads you were hoping to see.

However... far more ribbons hang in the air than just the few you've been expecting. Every thread has a different shape and thickness, most likely to do with your lack of skill with the technique, but they all share the same crimson color. Literal millions of ribbons hang in the air, filling up nearly the entirety of the throne room. Perhaps you... misunderstood something, messed something up. Maybe this ability doesn't function as it should within your inner world, or... damn it, it could be anything. but Even if you figure out why the method didn't work, you'll still need to come up with a new one, one that works and can help you save that girl.

(2/3)
>>
>>42148310
As the Hogyoku regains grasp on the situation and the sudden change in surroundings, tension draws out of his body. He smiles, looking relieved, and shakes his head, muttering. "So that's why you were training so much. If you were hoping to find that girl here in this world, you could have simply asked me and saved yourself the time. She is not here. These threads - every single one of them - are your weapons."

Your weapons are the Zanpakuto of the Shinigami. It seems reasonable for them to have this dark red color, just like their wielders do. As you glance around, you can't find anything that does not possess the bloodied tint. Even if there are some out here, like one belonging to the Hogyoku, yourself, or that girl, you feel depressed by the idea of looking through every single one of them individually. Just how much time would that take? Months? Years? Decades? What if they all have the same color? You won't know if you found anything.

And what if the man is telling the truth and the girl simply isn't here?

Once more, you look around... and find nothing.

I don't know, it's annoying that the Hougyoku doesn't care that Clarissa hates leaving things unsettled. Like even if with Aiko, Clarissa has no choice to accept things as they are, with Kimiko and the other girl that is not the case. There's unfinished business between the both of them, and even if she has to stand against the Soul Society or the Hougyoku himself, we're not gonna stop trying to settle things, even if settling things is as simple as saying goodbye.
>>
>>42148620
Yeah but I dunno if it's smart for Clarissa to push herself now. Still, we should deal with it eventually.
>>
>>42148701
I don't know, the only thing more frustrating than bashing our heads at the wall repatedly is to just be given the answer outright, like the Hougyoku did last thread with dealing with Paul.
>>
>>42148800
Yeah, I guess that's true, though in that case we sure did more than our share of work to reach the answer. Just didn't pan out.

You place a hand on your head and sigh, exhausted in a highly unpleasant manner. It felt like you were so close to finding her, but once again, your hopes were crushed. Along with your sigh, the ribbons shrivel and gently turn into red petals, which in turn become crimson dust. And then they disappear without a trace.

"Don't let it get to you." The golden man says encouragingly, his attitude gradually returning to its arrogant normalcy after the experienced surprise.

You shake your head. "I told you I'd... relax after this. I'll just... do that. At least until I think of something else..."

But what else could there be? The more you think, the more tired you feel. Maybe it's best to just do as he suggests, at least for now. If there's one thing you think he was right about, it's that her time has either run out already or it's still going. And either way the truth lies, there is no reason for you to rush and break yourself over this unsolvable riddle.

"I... don't know how often I'll be coming back here anymore." You mutter in a slightly wistful tone. "If I have any questions, I'll probably visit. But at this point... I don't know if there are any mysteries left unresolved, at least ones that you can help me with."

"That's fine. Loneliness doesn't concern me, if that's what you're worried about. I'm only lonely whenever you are. Focus on living your real life; do so however you want, but make sure that you will be happy with it. The less you come here, the better. This is an unchanging world of dreams, and you will find nothing here no matter how long you stay. "

This is an unchanging world of dreams, so if her time is still going, then it will never end.

"This desert will remain here forever. It is not just your guilt, but also your memories. This landscape will serve as an eternal reminder to you of what had occurred, so that it may never happen again. But, of course, we can build more cities and hide the sand under as much stone as you like."

"Then it's not unchanging, is it?" You lift a brow and the man smiles.

"It's unchanging." He firmly states anyway. "The things that matter aren't here - that will never change. Find happiness and you will create countless cities. But happiness can't be found here. Therefore, it is unchanging."

"...That's a very roundabout way of thinking." You say. His smile grows wider, but he doesn't reply. "But basically, it can change. Or, like, I can change it. Right? ...Damn it, don't confuse me with these weird semantics. Pissing me off."

The materials to build a city aren't here in this desert, but beyond, in the world of humans. And that means you can change it. This world, on its own, is unchanging... but if you bring in the 'materials' from the world of humans...

...You still don't really get what he means.

"So what this world is like actually doesn't matter?"

He nods. "Don't concern yourself with this place. Just live your life and all will be well."

You sigh again. How can this place not matter if it's literally the landscape of your mind, or something? Maybe he's trying to say that you can't change this place from the inside, basically. In which case, he should have just said so right away and bluntly, damn it.

"Then I guess that means I should leave. Well, goodbye."

"Farewell, Clarissa."

And with that, you let the dream end.

Today is Sunday. You sluggishly get off your bed at about ten in the morning - a little earlier than what you're used to waking up at, but it's probably a good thing today. After all, you have an important meeting you'd rather not be late to.

While you're eating your breakfast, the doorbell rings. Your mother goes to open it and shortly then returns to the kitchen, looking at you with a puzzled look on her face. "There's a man named Urahara waiting for you, Clarissa. Do you know him?"

You nearly choke on your omelet. Why is he there? Wait, how can your mom even see him? Regardless, you rush down the hallway and see the man in question standing there, wearing an unusual green outfit with a striped hat. He smiles and chuckles when he sees you.

"Greetings, young lady. We discussed the time, but I believe I forgot to designate the place! It's a bit of a blunder on my part, forgive me. But, well, since I'm here, we may start right away, if that's convenient for you."

...So he knows where you live, huh? Well, he did shoot that blood lettered message through your window, so you suppose you shouldn't be surprised.

...

>"Yeah, alright. I'll be ready in a minute."
>Tell him to wait, call your friends and tell them that the meeting is happening a little earlier than expected.

Gotta get our friends in on this!
>>
>>42150829
>"Yeah, alright. I'll be ready in a minute."
Yet another inconvenience, did we even have anything we wanted to ask this guy beyond Kimiko?
>>
>>42150915
Like before this starts, we should try to remember what we hope to get out of this meeting.

Also he's in our house, and Paul might not react well to that.
>>
>>42150942
Hmm, should we consider mentioning Paul to him? We do have more info to work with on our own too now, but...
>>
>>42150942
I think we wanted to ask if he could take us to the Soul Society either as a tour for what we're getting into or for more tests. We briefly dabbled with the idea of getting a limiter, but that's probably unnecessary. We could get his opinion on what's going on in our soul, but I don't really want to share that information wih him. So why is he here?
>>
>>42151062
Probably he either has something specific in mind and will volunteer it himself, or just wanted to catch Clarissa off-guard.
>>
>>42151054
I think we might have a solution with Paul thanks to the Hougyoku. We could ask how stuff like the barriers or portals to Soul Society work, so we could later replicate them, but he's not the shopkeeper he was in canon Bleach, and we can't be frivilous with his time (which is why I voted to start now)
>>
>>42151094
True enough, we definitely have things we can try with Paul now. We should definitely get more info on SS yeah. Though if we're really lucky he can offer us a way the there.
>>
>>42151149
What I'm saying is he's probably a lot less patient than he was in canon, and might not want to play twenty questions with a teenager.

>>42151173
Eh, we should probably avoid too many aimless ones but courtesy costs him nothing and he wants Clarissa on his side, so.

>>42150898
You tell him to give you a little while. There's still over an hour left until the meeting, so you think you're justified in your request. He thoughtfully scratches his chin for a bit but doesn't protest, agreeing without issue. "Then I'll take a walk for a while. It's not a problem." He assures you and leaves your doorstep, leaving elsewhere.

You go back to finish your meal, and then call up your friends. Naoko says that she'll be there shortly, while Ren has been caught sleeping, though she says that she'll be there soon.

In about half an hour, the two of them come to your house. You're ready to go, too, so the three of you step outside. The man in green has just returned from whatever walk he's been having, to the convenience of everyone. You don't really feel thrilled by the idea of being seen walking around with some shady old man - which is apparently possible now, since he is currently occupying a physical body - so you lead him to a part of town where none of your classmates usually go to. The three of you settle down on some benches, and Urahara yawns as he lets himself relax, setting his cane aside.

Both Ren and Naoko are somewhat tense, and because of that, the mood is less friendly than it probably should be.

"So, young lady, what would you like to talk about?" He asks, briefly glancing at your friends as well, as if expecting them to have questions, too. Ren flinches uneasily and turns to you, waiting for you to say something.

Ask if he wants some tea. Everything's better over tea, right?
Then get to the point, SS info, SS routes, SS door, SS gateways, SS portals, SS underground tunnels, whatever he's got!

We're not in our house anymore, but sitting on a park bench, unfortunately.
>>
>>42151656
We can just go to a cafe or something!
>>
>>42151573
Tell him straight-up we need a way to SS if he doesn't have any way to get us in contact with Kimiko. If, as expected, he doesn't have one (besides 'dying') then inform him we'll be working on a way in on our own and, while not ready yet, we have a lead (it's technically true, we CAN wish for it if we figure out how it sounded like from what Gil said). Might as well make that clear, maybe he'll be more pliable with that added info, but even if not at least we don't surprise him when we get there.
>>
>>42151573
Man this will take a while. Like we need to remember what's already been covered by Kimiko or Naoko or the Hougyoku, and figure out what this guy is likely to tell us, and what we're capable of telling him. >>42151615
This is WAY too strong.
>>
>>42151740
We've not gotten very far pussyfooting around and it's not like he doesn't know what we want at this point.
>>
>>42151573
First ask if he can elaborate on the situation with Kimiko.
>>
>>42151756
He's not gonna help us fucking break in to his place of employment. At least not directly. That's why >>42151704
is also not good. I don't understand why you people think that he's gonna bend over backwards for our sakes, he doesn't have the same agenda canon Urahara had for using Ichigo.
>>
>>42151811
Because the alternative is Kimiko going there and fucking shit up, for him as well as in general? Helping us keeps things under control in addition to maintaining a friendly relationship with Clarissa.

Like, the only advantage of our powers is they're crazy fucking strong because, well, plotrock. If Clarissa went REALLY all-out, understanding her power and all, most things in SS would have problems with her - she's got a leg-up on Ichigo in that way.
>>
>>42151857
Or mind control. Lots and lots of mind control. Like that's why we need to find out more about Kimiko's family. If they're strong in influence but weak in spirit (fat chance) then we can just walk on out of there. But we need to know for sure what we may be up against, and who Kimiko is.

And again, he could kill us, you know. Or at least seal us. He's had like a hundred years without Aizen standing in his way, and all the resources the Soul Society has to offer. How do you not understand who you're dealing with?
>>
>>42151924
He could if he wanted, but plotrock powers are unpredictable even if he'd have a clear advantage, it would probably get messy, and he'd lose the deal with Clarissa. I'll take the chance that he won't think such a drastic move worth it if Clarissa's telling him all her plans anyway, helping us or not.
>>
>>42151573
"One thing I was wondering was if there's like a textbook or at least a pamphlet about how all of this works? At first I figured that it was all just 'ghost magic' but that Mayuri guy acted like a mad scientist, and you seem like... a mildly disreputable scientist. And some of the terms I've heard like 'reishi' seem to indicate there's some underlying logic to how this all works, but I've got no understanding of any of it."

Look, without near as much resources, he was able to seal the complete Hougyoku (we have only half) wielded by the third-best shinigami of all time (we are an emotionally disturbed teenage girl). It would not be hard for him to do that.

>>
>>42152119
I don't mind taking it more slowly and focusing on Kimiko questions for now. As long as the updates are a-coming!
>>
>>42152119
I don't know, I don't see how any of this ends without us irritating Urahara and not getting what we want regardless.
>>
>>42152174
Like he even told us to prepare questions in advance, and no one ever did.
>>
>>42152191
Well, anons probably didn't expect his sudden appearance!
That said honestly I have no clue what we haven't already asked him at this point. And our goal is the exact same thing it was last time, so...
>>
>>42152191
I guess one thing we could do is learn more about how zanpakuto are supposed to work, and without outright saying it's the Hougyoku, the being who embodies our powers seems to have taken the place of one. Then after learning whatever he decides to tell us, maybe ask if it's possible to have more than one?
>>
>>42152011
Like I don't know, it probably needs heavy reworking, but the goal is to maybe flatter or endear ourselves to Urahara a little bit (showing interest in science thinking he's an authority) while also seeing how much information he likes to share (technically we only asked him if he could deliver something like that, but he might love talking so much that he'd tell us anyway). If he does feel like talking, we can ask about how that barrier worked as well as going to Soul Society.
>>
>>42152174
Yeah that is about where I'm at. Yet again I'm the anon who kind of believes Kimiko never intended to come back and didn't want us to throw our life away for her. At this point the only thing I could think of is letting him know we really do have the plot rock and trying to convince to loan Kimiko to us for about 60 years or so to train us for when we die and become shinigami.
>>
>>42152244
We do so little for long amounts of time that it's hard to tell whether or not we're retreading old ground, like with the Hougyoku especially, but Naoko and Urahara are also symptoms. It's like we need notes reminding us what we've already learned.
>>
>>42152312
I don't really wanna throw our life away for Kimiko, but I also don't think that, with the full power of the Hougyoku and some creativity, that we'll have to do that.
>>
>>42152245
This is more desperation trying to find the dream girl, also hoping to get Urahara's interest enough to feel that some tests might be a good idea.
>>
>>42152323
I don't really feel we were retreading too much with Paul/Gil, just trying stuff that had little chance of working lacking inspiration. The haunted house thing for example was new and fun even if we didn't manage to pacify him. When it comes to the Kimiko situation though, yeah. We're basically doing 'but thou must' at him, without the authority required.

That said I do think we can reasonably practice our powers while getting info until Clarissa can try getting there with her powers. So no longer completely reliant on Urahara cooperating, as it were. Might take a long time though.
>>
>>42151573
I think for starters is asking why it would be so difficult for us to see Kimiko, like they're already dead, in the afterlife, what can a family even accumulate that would give them political power. Unless their political power is actual power.
>>
>>42151573
Just flat out ask if it would be illegal for us to come to Soul Society, and, if yes, is there anything we can do, short of dying, that could change it? Like are there any tests or applications we could do, some great deed we could accomplish that could impress people?
>>
>>42152501
That's a pretty good idea. Though I think we all expect the answer to basically stonewall us, it's still nice to clarify at least.
>>
>>42152396
Honestly we have a better chance trying to go to Hueco Mundo by remembering how Clay Bone liked to run away, and going from there to the Soul Society.
>>
>>42152528
Sounds like a plan!

A really really dangerous plan probably ending with Clarissa in deep shit, but a plan!
>>
>>42152518
Well yeah, I just want to really clarify how much trouble would Urahara be in if he brought us to the Soul Society even if we behaved ourselves? Like if it could cost him his job, or worse, than we know that he's not gonna stick his neck out for us, nor can we really blame him for that.
>>
>>42152312 (You)
You know I didn't mean it when I said it but now that I think about it more I'm warming up to the idea. We have half the plot rock and Paul has half the plot rock. He can probably take us but what then? Is he going to want to risk fighting us even with the odds in his favor without knowing what will happen to ot? Maybe it will fly away like the dragon balls, maybe the collateral will be too much for even him to cover up. He could have us a relatively known and co-operative vessel for it on his side owing him forever all for the cost of bribing a noble family enough to get their daughter (who probably wants to go) in his division to babysit/train us for one human lifetime.
>>
>>42152597
That's probably beyond him though. We're gonna need a combination of carefully applied brute force and mind whammys but first need to go to SS.
>>
>>42152597
Hmmm, as a last resort I can see it but...it's REALLY risky. Of course, I bet 'researching plotrock' would be a more than good enough reason to bring us into SS.
>>
>>42152597
>>42152653
Like he's a scientist, not a genie. His position only grants him so much.
>>
>>42152706
Well this IS a world full of supernatural shit, who's to say he doesn't moonlight as a genie during the night?
>>
>>42152597
He currently at least acts like he doesn't think we have the plotrock, though I wonder what he DOES think we are.
>>
>>42152798
It's Urahara, mindgames is to be expected.
He got to search us spiritually, do we REALLY think he didn't notice it?
>>
>>42152836
Might just be playing along to keep Clarissa pacified while he figures out a way to extract it without risk (of losing it that is, I'm not sure he'd wait if the only risk was to Clarissa herself).
>>
>>42152706
He's a captain first scientist second. I don't know where that actually stands against noble in Soul Society but if the Kuchiki and Shion are anything to go by they value rank pretty highly. I think getting Kimiko in a high seat in his division (maybe vice-captain just to piss off Hiyori) might be enough if he could get a message to Kimiko and have her go along with it.
>>
>>42152836
He probably does, but what does that get us? Also have we gotten anywhere with what to say? I feel like the priorities would be >>42152467
learning about Kimiko's situation and >>42152501
getting the obstacles stated for us.

After that, we might be able to talk more about science or zanpakuto depending on his mood. I don't know what does everyone else thnk, time to resume?
>>
>>42152942
Yeah, pretty much.
>>
>>42152902
The Kuchiki clan are nobles first, shinigami second I'm pretty sure. Like Captains come and go, but the clans are a lot more permanent. Have a lot of sway with Central 46. But it's better to hear it from him first, before making ridiculous demands.
>>
>>42152942
Sounds good to me, might as well get going with some questioning already!
>>
Well, I'll piece something together!
>>
>>42152942
The main thing is do we want to start off strong with a risk of making him defensive/angry/stern, or do we want to start off playing it soft and risk him getting bored or irritated?
>>
I've got it! Hiyori was really Kimiko all along! She's just very pissed we didn't recognize her.

Ok seriously back to the questining now.
>>
>>42153138
Good luck!
>>42153144
Can always do the latter until he shows signs of annoyance then get straight to the point!
>>
>>42153152
Main issue with this theory would be the idea of Hiyori restraining her attitude and speech for a full week as Kimiko.
>>
>>42153138
Thank you for your patience, sorry for keeping you up so late!
>>
"Well..." You hesitantly begin, feeling wary about your potential choice of words. It's probably best to take it easy with neutral questions at first, to maybe ease him into the stuff you really want to talk about. "How is Kimiko? Is she alright?"

Urahara smiles a bit and nods. "Lady Kimiko is indeed fine. Well, at least in the sense that she is safe and healthy." He pauses, his gaze briefly wandering off. "I've had a chance to speak with her bodyguard, and the situation isn't quite as happy as her family wants to make it seem. To put it bluntly, your friend is depressed, and she refuses to tell the reason."

His smile, although lacking in any cheer whatsoever, lightens up a bit with the implication he seems to make. Holding the suspense for several seconds longer, he confirms it. "But I suspect the reason to be you and your current absence. After all, nobody can ever know about you, as you're an illicit Shinigami that would be put to immediate death should your existence become known. I think that's why Kimiko-sama is keeping her reasons a secret."

You hang your head, thinking over what to say next. You grip the edge of the bench, overcome with a wave of concern. Even though you really, really want to rush this, you probably shouldn't. This guy doesn't owe you anything, so it's hard to call him 'reliable' by any stretch of the word. He might just stand up and walk off the moment you mention Soul Society, and you don't want that.

Urahara quietly waits for you to continue, his posture relaxed and inviting you to take your time.

"You know... I've been thinking..." You begin. "Is there, like, a guide to being a ghost? I mean, I've met that mad scientist guy, and you're also a... mildly disreputable scientist, I guess, so is 'being a ghost' some kind of science?"

The man laughs openly, caught completely off-guard. "Ahaha, there are indeed many explainable technicalities to being a spirit, yes. But you'll learn it all in due time, young lady. It's indeed like a field of science in and of itself, and it will take a lot more time than we have for me to explain it all. I am not trying to give you the cold shoulder here, but there is little reason for you to be aware of these details as a human. But when you become part of my division in the future, you will have a vast library of knowledge all to yourself. And of course, you'll have me and every other member as a willing teacher."

Your eagerness to learn seems to have really uplifted his mood. His smile is exuding warmth, like a researcher whose obscure and usually disregarded field is now being asked about with enthusiasm by someone who hasn't the faintest clue about it.

Now is probably a good chance for you to ask.

"Well... I was just... wondering how Soul Society works. Is it, like, its own dimension or planet, or some crap like that, or is it a place somewhere in the world?"

"The Soul Society is its own 'world', in the same way that the Human World is. It's a little hard to describe, but it is neither a separate planet somewhere in space, nor does it exist anywhere on this planet. 'Dimension' is probably the best description, even if not entirely accurate." He explains, clearly putting up an effort to not let any difficult terms slip past his teeth or to not get carried away with his explanation.

"How do you get there?"

Urahara keeps up his smile as he answers. "A Shinigami uses their Zanpakuto to open a Senkaimon, and then uses a Hell Butterfly as a guide to reach Soul Society."

His explanation is very simple, but it really doesn't help you at all. He's probably well aware why you've asked him such a question, but he doesn't mention it. He doesn't seem to mind, either. So maybe you should just be blunt with him?

"Can you take me there?"

Ren shoots you a concerned glare, but you gesture for her to relax.

The smile stays, though losing its warmth and taking on a polite coldness. "I'm afraid that's not an option. There is far too much risk involved for both of us. As I've mentioned before, meeting your friend in person is impossible. Sneaking you in and out of Soul Society and dealing with Kimiko-sama's family are two separate and both very scary beasts, and I get the feeling that they are, indeed, mutually exclusive, like subtlety and explosions."

He figured your intentions out right away, but it's not like you were ever concealing them. He wouldn't have bought the excuse of you just being curious and wanting to explore things. There probably really was no reason to beat around the bush.

So... he'd be willing to do one if it wasn't for the other being there. And that's just frustrating.

"...I don't really get it. They're all dead already, so how can a family even hold any influence on other dead people at all?"

"Politics in Soul Society work in a similar way they do in this world. Soul Society has its own government, and the noble families have influence over the government. That's essentially all it comes down to, with the definition and strength of 'influence' varying per any given family. There are four families in particular that are very serious names in Soul Society, and unfortunately, Kimiko-sama belongs to one of those."

Once again, you clutch the edge of your bench in frustration. Urahara continues.

"You'll meet her when the time comes, I assure you." He says, no doubt talking about the time of your death, which is not at all a relief to you. "But... well, I may be a Shinigami myself, but I still have a grasp on human values. A hundred years may be nothing for me, but I understand that it's an eternity for you."

You look up at him, and watch him take a cellphone out of his coat. It's a device with a plain and yet all too familiar silvery design. He offers it to you.

"You see, when Kimiko-sama left the Human World, she left one of these behind. My department keeps track of all incoming and outgoing signals from these things, in and from the Human World, but it takes some time to recognize and remotely block unauthorized devices. And, when their signals are brief and temporary, like for example, from text messages, they are often disregarded as nothing of consequence until they repeat a sufficient number of times." His smile lights up again.

With a slightly shaking hand, you take the flip cellphone.

Urahara continues. "Kimiko-sama does not have one of these yet, but, fortunately, I have another one that was declared to be missing a long time ago. I may not be able to sneak you into her housekeep, but a phone should be easy enough. I'll make it known when that happens, and then, well... I'm sure you'll figure something out, young lady. Just make sure not to actually call her number, as the connection won't last for longer than several seconds. But text messages should last you for at least a few hours."

...

>"Thank you."
>"I'm thankful, but... I want to meet her in person. A few text messages just isn't enough."
>Other. (Write-in).

We can work out a plan after talking to her some, maybe.

Can we ask him if there's anything we can do to make sure we're talking to Kimiko and not another member of her family that got a hold of the device?
>>
>>42154179
>"Thank you."
Honestly, maybe we will want to meet her in person. Probably even. But this is enough for now, pushing would be stupid.
>>
>>42154179
>"Thank you."
Hadn't expected to get a way to contact her. We can plan much better and more specifically when we know her feelings and opinion.
>>
>>42154179
"Why do you and Hiyori both refer to shinigami and humans as separate things? Are there bigger differences than your lack of mortality means you perceive time differently? Also, is there any way I can get along better with her? It seems like you'll have her stick around, but she seems to dislike me so much it went past funny and got kind of scary."
>>
>>42154179
>>>"Thank you."
That went much better than expected. So back to the her join 12th division plan. We can make it seem like its her idea. Say she picked up a real aptitude for technology in the human world. She hasn't been melancholy she has been preoccupied with ideas that could change soul society forever. They might even be ideas that could bring the family even more prestige but, she needs qualified colleagues to teach her and bounce ideas off of. She needs to go to the only division that could happen.

Thanks for running and for giving us time to figure out what to say to Urahara.

Man he's being a lot more helpful than I expected, makes me wonder what he's planning.
