You've always believed your world to be empty and peaceful, with only you and the golden man as its inhabitants, with that girl to make a total of three threads you were hoping to see.

However... far more ribbons hang in the air than just the few you've been expecting. Every thread has a different shape and thickness, most likely to do with your lack of skill with the technique, but they all share the same crimson color. Literal millions of ribbons hang in the air, filling up nearly the entirety of the throne room. Perhaps you... misunderstood something, messed something up. Maybe this ability doesn't function as it should within your inner world, or... damn it, it could be anything. but Even if you figure out why the method didn't work, you'll still need to come up with a new one, one that works and can help you save that girl.

The man in green has just returned from whatever walk he's been having, to the convenience of everyone. You don't really feel thrilled by the idea of being seen walking around with some shady old man - which is apparently possible now, since he is currently occupying a physical body - so you lead him to a part of town where none of your classmates usually go to. The three of you settle down on some benches, and Urahara yawns as he lets himself relax, setting his cane aside.

Both Ren and Naoko are somewhat tense, and because of that, the mood is less friendly than it probably should be.

Urahara smiles a bit and nods. "Lady Kimiko is indeed fine. Well, at least in the sense that she is safe and healthy." He pauses, his gaze briefly wandering off. "I've had a chance to speak with her bodyguard, and the situation isn't quite as happy as her family wants to make it seem. To put it bluntly, your friend is depressed, and she refuses to tell the reason."

His smile, although lacking in any cheer whatsoever, lightens up a bit with the implication he seems to make. Holding the suspense for several seconds longer, he confirms it. "But I suspect the reason to be you and your current absence. After all, nobody can ever know about you, as you're an illicit Shinigami that would be put to immediate death should your existence become known. I think that's why Kimiko-sama is keeping her reasons a secret."

You hang your head, thinking over what to say next. You grip the edge of the bench, overcome with a wave of concern. Even though you really, really want to rush this, you probably shouldn't. This guy doesn't owe you anything, so it's hard to call him 'reliable' by any stretch of the word. He might just stand up and walk off the moment you mention Soul Society, and you don't want that.

Urahara quietly waits for you to continue, his posture relaxed and inviting you to take your time.

"You know... I've been thinking..." You begin. "Is there, like, a guide to being a ghost? I mean, I've met that mad scientist guy, and you're also a... mildly disreputable scientist, I guess, so is 'being a ghost' some kind of science?"

"Well... I was just... wondering how Soul Society works. Is it, like, its own dimension or planet, or some crap like that, or is it a place somewhere in the world?"

"The Soul Society is its own 'world', in the same way that the Human World is. It's a little hard to describe, but it is neither a separate planet somewhere in space, nor does it exist anywhere on this planet. 'Dimension' is probably the best description, even if not entirely accurate." He explains, clearly putting up an effort to not let any difficult terms slip past his teeth or to not get carried away with his explanation.

"How do you get there?"

Urahara keeps up his smile as he answers. "A Shinigami uses their Zanpakuto to open a Senkaimon, and then uses a Hell Butterfly as a guide to reach Soul Society."

His explanation is very simple, but it really doesn't help you at all. He's probably well aware why you've asked him such a question, but he doesn't mention it. He doesn't seem to mind, either. So maybe you should just be blunt with him?

The smile stays, though losing its warmth and taking on a polite coldness. "I'm afraid that's not an option. There is far too much risk involved for both of us. Sneaking you in and out of Soul Society and dealing with Kimiko-sama's family are two separate and both very scary beasts, and I get the feeling that they are, indeed, mutually exclusive, like subtlety and explosions."

He figured your intentions out right away, but it's not like you were ever concealing them. He wouldn't have bought the excuse of you just being curious and wanting to explore things. There probably really was no reason to beat around the bush.

So... he'd be willing to do one if it wasn't for the other being there. And that's just frustrating.

"Politics in Soul Society work in a similar way they do in this world. Soul Society has its own government, and the noble families have influence over the government. That's essentially all it comes down to, with the definition and strength of 'influence' varying per any given family. There are four families in particular that are very serious names in Soul Society, and unfortunately, Kimiko-sama belongs to one of those."

You look up at him, and watch him take a cellphone out of his coat. It's a device with a plain and yet all too familiar silvery design. He offers it to you.

"You see, when Kimiko-sama left the Human World, she left one of these behind. My department keeps track of all incoming and outgoing signals from these things, in and from the Human World, but it takes some time to recognize and remotely block unauthorized devices. And, when their signals are brief and temporary, like for example, from text messages, they are often disregarded as nothing of consequence until they repeat a sufficient number of times." His smile lights up again.

With a slightly shaking hand, you take the flip cellphone.

Urahara continues. "Kimiko-sama does not have one of these yet, but, fortunately, I have another one that was declared to be missing a long time ago. I may not be able to sneak you into her housekeep, but a phone should be easy enough. I'll make it known when that happens, and then, well... I'm sure you'll figure something out, young lady. Just make sure not to actually call her number, as the connection won't last for longer than several seconds. But text messages should last you for at least a few hours."

We can work out a plan after talking to her some, maybe.

Can we ask him if there's anything we can do to make sure we're talking to Kimiko and not another member of her family that got a hold of the device?

That went much better than expected. So back to the her join 12th division plan. We can make it seem like its her idea. Say she picked up a real aptitude for technology in the human world. She hasn't been melancholy she has been preoccupied with ideas that could change soul society forever. They might even be ideas that could bring the family even more prestige but, she needs qualified colleagues to teach her and bounce ideas off of. She needs to go to the only division that could happen.
