Recently: You've been working on training regimes for your Pokemon.

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just three 1d100s. Sometimes you can get a modifier from circumstances, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever!

Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

You’ve been training hard. Really hard. And so have your Pokemon. The vitamins you’ve ordered arrive, and you feel like it’s making a difference. If nothing else, their coats seem a little shinier.

Vernon is always close at hand, giving tips and advice here and there that’s surprisingly helpful. He spends most of his time with Robin though.

You and Robin have been avoiding talking about your training to each other. A small part is the natural potential rivalry, but more of it is based on not wanting to mess the other one up. You have different styles and trust each other to know what works best for them.

Your first major event comes wit Fel. it’s not bad. In fact, it’s great news. He’s been doing better than expected with your training. You guess at least some of that is beginner’s gains, but he’s also really in his element with learning to use two powder moves at once. You think that if you keep the course on this training instead of working on his stats after like you planned, you can get him to learn Powder. [http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Powder_(move)]

You train Fel to learn Powder. He’s not as strong as the others, but he’s got a log of tricks and status effects he can fall back on. He seems to be happy that his overly powdery wings are an asset instead of a problem.

You notice that Trunks has been acting weird. He’s doing well with his training, but the more time you spend with him outside in the wooded area, the weirder he gets. He vanishes from your sight, ingrains into the ground for hours on end just sitting there, and chases small Pokemon away from the other trees. He doesn't cackle much anymore.

He was sitting so still one time that a Sentret actually climbed onto him. He didn't even seem to care.

You’re not really sure what to do. Is this a phase? Is it normal? You’ve read that Phantumps come from spirits that inhabit trees. You wonder if there’s any truth to that.

You look for him in the forest. You just took your eyes off of him for a second before he vanished. The trees themselves seem to obscure him from your vision in here sometimes.

You find him, ingrained into the forest floor in a shady clearing. He sways in the breeze in step with the other trees.

“Trunks?”

He doesn’t react.

“Hey buddy,” you sit down next to him. “How are you doing?”

He doesn’t react until you put a hand on him. He jumps for a second, then relaxes.

You sit there with him, feeling the wind and the beams of sunlight that penetrate through the thick canopy. With nothing else to do, you just breath.

The forest is a different place when you’re not going anywhere or hiding out. You’ve spent a lot of time outside of town when you ran away from the orphanage or travelling with your friends, but not that much just absorbing it like this.

You watch the sunlight travel over the ground over time. The small plants and saplings seem to stretch towards it. Over time it’s less of a slow stretch, and more of an active, vibrant scramble as all the plants do their daily dance for their meal.

You wake up with Trunks poking you. He looks worried.

“Hey. Sorry I fell asleep.”

He shakes his head. He doesn’t care about that. He’s alerting you to something.

You see it. Just barely, in the distance and shade. It’s a familiar silhouette.

It’s the Garchomp you encountered in the cave. He’s sniffing the air, and he looks mad. You get the feeling he’s looking for trouble. He slashes a bush in frustration, searching for something. Probably you.

You stick your head up so you can see Garchomp better. This also allows him to see you too, though. You start confidently striding towards him.

“Garchomp,” you say flatly, still deciding how you want to handle him.

He quickly bursts towards you, blowing, dirt, plant, and air out of his path. He stops, inches from your face. You’re caught off guard and freeze, doing your best not to react.

Last time you saw him, you stared him down and then stuck your tongue out at him. You think that really bothered him. He’s looking in your eyes, challenging you. He crushes a tiny sapling under his foot.

He doesn't seem to have noticed Trunks at all. He’s been still the entire time.

He moves his face closer to yours. He’s trying to psyche you out. You cock your head and do the same, stretching your arms out wide and puffing out your chest.

You narrow your eyes. “Looking for a fight?”

He breathes in deeply, the roars right in your face. It’s deafening. You can feel your hair whip back and smell whatever he’s been eating. You tighten your eyes, but don’t entirely close them.

He waits for your reaction. He seems happy that you didn't flinch.

You breath in deeply. He braces himself to shrug off your impeding roar.

You breathe in and in, maintaining eye contact and puffing up even larger. You let loose the wettest, loudest Pllrrrrrbpt you’ve ever made.

Garchomp backs away, completely surprised. He was expecting a roar or a shout, or even a surprise attack.

He looks around, then back to you, then his surroundings. What game is this? Are you not taking him seriously? Is this a trick?

He snorts loudly, then wanders off, looking over his shoulder. He’s not afraid to fight, but he’d feel foolish if he acted seriously after that. He fumes as he vanishes back into the wild, confused. You get the feeling he’ll be back.

You and Trunks spend the rest of the day training after he does his best to take care of that sapling. He props it up against a stick and gets a little water for it.

--

Your training with Dan goes as expected. He doesn't apply himself as much as some of the others, but he doesn't slack off or get distracted either. It’s always steady.

But one thing has been bugging him. Every time that Vernon disappears into his garage, Dan wants to check it out.
Vernon makes it very clear that nobody is allowed in there, but it’s clear he’s up to something. Every time you ask him about it, he says “don’t worry about it.”

Dan finally breaks. He leads you to the garage, pointing his magnets to it. Whatever’s in there is driving him nuts.

Dan let’s himself drift gently into the garage wall. He’s drawn to whatever’s in there.

“What’s the matter? Are you sensing a Magnemate?”

Dan glances your way, but doesn't react much. He’s too relaxed to get flustered.

Except, apparently, when it comes to whatever is in there. You watch as magnet’s seem to almost pull him. He makes an uncomfortable humming noise in frustration.

That’s enough of this. You knock on the door. After some banging, Vernon comes to answer. The door is open just enough to see his face, but nothing else.

“Hey, champ-to-be. Need help?” He tries to act natural, but he’s positioned to hold the door if you try to push your way in.

“Something in there is bugging Dan.”

He leans out and bit and eyes your Magnezone. He squints until a thought suddenly hits him. “Of course! The shielding! It figures that would be the problem.”

You try to look into the garage. “What problem? What’s going on in there?”

Something moves behind Vernon, and you know it wasn't Poly. He blocks your vision. “Nothing! Nothing! Not something you need to worry yer pretty head over.” He leans in closer. “Besides, it’s not exactly legal, so let’s keep this on the down-low, alright? I’ll make sure Dan doesn't get bothered by it.”

You have to know what’s going on in there now. You adjust your chest and lean over to look the short old man in the eyes. You give him your poutiest look you can muster. It’s the one you give to Robin when you want her to do something extra embarrassing. “Please? I can keep a secret. I don’t exactly have a clean record.”

He sighs. “Alright. Only because that reminded me of my third wife, and she annoyed me the least. Come on in.”

Dan follows you in. Vernon walks over to something under a large trap that you saw moving before and rips it off.

It’s a giant robot.

“What...what is it?” Your eyes have to be lying.

He leans against it, you can see a large symbol on the chest that you recognize.. “Caught this back in my glory days. It was Team Dynasty’s big weapon. We were supposed to turn stuff like this over to the authorities but... Well I just couldn't. I was going to surprise you an` Robin and use it to test you and yer Pokemon.”

“You’re not worried we’d trash it?”

He laughs. “No way. It was a secret weapon for a reason. Trust me, it’s tougher than it looks. Well, it will be when I fix the batteries.”

Dan looks like he’s staring into the face of Arceus. It must have a crazy power load.

You and Levi have been working hard today. She seems to enjoy working on mega-evolution in the rain. She roars out at the clouds, and you join her.

You feel you’re getting her more these days. She projects fierceness because she still feels vulnerable. She grew up as a magikarp in a lake full of bigger, stronger fish, after all.

Lightning strikes in the distance and she flinches involuntarily. She looks to you to see if you caught that.

“It’s okay to be afraid,” you tell her. “I don’t blame you. Electricity and Gyrados don’t mix.”

She frowns.

The loud thunder hits you. You flinch with her.

She looks at you, feeling exposed and insecure. You dig deep for something reassuring and wise to offer her.

“Bravery is not the absence of fear, but feeling fear and telling it to fuck off you have things you must do.”

She considers what you say, then lets out a small roar at the next bolt of lightning. It’s pretty pathetic, which is adorable coming from her, but you know she’s trying.

You yell at the lightning with her. You brace with her when the sound of thunder hits, then scream into the wind. The storm is so loud that you feel Levi roaring more than you hear it.

You shout at the storm with everything you have. You and Levi stand bravely against the elements. No matter how big and strong she becomes, she’ll never be stronger than the world, but that’s okay. She won’t back down. She won’t let that scare her.

Lightning suddenly hits the closest tree, splintering it. Levi’s roar’s stutter out as she looks at the smoking wooden husk.

You yell at the clouds above. Your heart is pounding out of your chest. Even as soaked as you are, you feel incredibly light.

Levi joins in in taunting the clouds above. You won’t be intimidated!

Lightning strikes again. The thunder follows almost instantly. You and Levi dare it to get closer. You’re scared out of your mind, but instead of letting it control you, you channel it.

You and Levi move as one. You point to a tree and she fires her hyperbeam into it. It explodes through and demolishes a line of trees. She keeps pushing and it goes beyond and into the mountain you climbed before. You see it land there and make a visible impression in it.

Levi pants heavily. You look up and see her mega-evolved.

You learn against each other, exhausted. You've reached a new level tonight. One thing you notice is that Levi lets you see how tired she is. You let her see how tired you are too. You both laugh in the rain.

----

You’ve been meditating with Raistlin. His approach is a lot different. He’s calm, but not uncaring like Dan. He likes to analyse things, but he doesn't hesitate.

You play games with him during breaks. Checkers, Chess, Go. He absolutely destroys you in all of them. Robin tries her skill against him and doesn't do much better. The best luck you get is when you act to confuse him instead of a calculated move, but that only lets you last a few extra turns.

One day, he asks you why you should direct him in a battle if he’s smarter than you. It’s not arrogance or rebellion, he just genuinely doesn't understand.

Given how easily he beats you at games of strategy, you have to admit it's a good question.

You lean in close to your genius Alakazam. “So, you want to wear the big boy pants, huh?”

You know that’s not what this is about, but you need to distract him. If he isn’t a little flustered, he’ll know what you’re thinking. Your deft fingers secure a spoon as he stumbles over his mental words and tries to correct you.

He’s not trying to disparage you. You've raised him from a sleepy Abra and he respects you. It’s just that looking at things objectively, the logical choice would be to...where is his spoon?

You dangle it in front of his eyes, smirking. “There are different kinds of clever. Books smarts aren't the only thing that matter in a fight. Plus when you’re in a fight, you can’t keep track of everything. I can see the big picture.”

He considers your words.

“How about a battle, then? You and me.”

Raistlin accepts your challenge. You can tell he’d like that. He’s worried he’ll beat you though, and undermine your authority. He asks how you want to battle. He wants to use Aria, if she’d be okay with that.

How about we employ verbal misdirection to kind of trick Raistlin into agreeing to be our pokemon vs Aria. Though I can't really think of a way to do that that would promote bonding instead of being a dick.

or not

>Fine. He can use Aria if she agrees.

This will work to our advantage.
>>
>>42100319
How?
>>
>>42100355
How long do you think it took for Aria to agree to be our Pokemon? Consider her personality as well. Raistilin trying to order her around, with no history and no regard for her pride? Its going to be a real lesson that just because you know how to win dosen't mean you can do so.

"For someone worried about beating me, you're sure not pulling any punches."

It’s the tactical choice, he thinks. They’re both psychic types, she’s powerful, and removing her from your pool of choices protects him.

“Not a problem,” you tell him. “If she’s alright with it.”

You take out Aria and explain the situation. She twirls at being the center of attention. She agrees to let Raistlin call the shots for a battle, but you sense that it’s at least a little contingent on if she agrees with his commands or not.

You have to consider your own options now. Aria is strong, Raistlin is smart. You can’t help but feel a little excited at the prospect of a tough fight like this.

Devon is a smart choice. He has a typing advantage.

Then again, Leviathan’s mega-evolution makes her a dark type too. She’s probably eager to prove herself against Aria.

Vlad might be a good pick, typing aside. His speed training is coming along well.

Destiny’s dodging is top notch too. You haven’t mastered the ability switch yet, but she’s getting there.

Fel’s bug typing can help. Status effects would really narrow the gap too.

Zappy Dan can take a beating. Maybe you can use Sparkle Canon successfully.

What about Nibbles? You haven’t gotten much training time with him yet, so this might be good for him.

Trunks has a good typing too. He’s gotten a lot tougher and might be able to wear her down.

So many choices. You sense this can be a really good learning experience if you do it right. It might shake your Pokemon’s confidence in you if you mess up.

>Leviathan (Gyarados)
>Zappy Dan (Magnezone)
>Trunks (Trevenant)

“Alright, I choose Levi,”

Raistlin cocks an eyebrow. Aria is busy humming to herself and twirling to care.

You take out Levi and the others so they can watch. Levi doesn't roar. Instead, she has a confident, restrained growl. She’s learned that the hint of her booming voice can be more effective than just going all out and screaming. The less she looks like she has something to prove, the more threatening she seems.

Aria stops and looks at her. He face has a look of intrigue mixed with condescension to it. Aria seems to think that even if Levi has gotten more powerful, she doesn't stand a chance against a legendary such as her.

Well, you guess you’ll have to humble her and Raistlin at the same time.

[That’s all for tonight. I'm much more free this week so we should be running again at least once. I hope you’re ready for the league soonish.]

That's right! I owe you guys one. It was Kat, Robin, Robin's mom, right? I have no idea how to make that work even as non-canon, but I'll try.

Asking again now that the quest is done for the night. Did we end up choosing to ability switch for anyone? What are we changing anyway? Are we mimicking any held items?

Would love to super broken combinations. Like close combat plus contrary, or swag play plus prankster.
>>
>>42101152
We never got around to doing the mimic thing, I think we're doing ability switch for Destiny but no one else?
>>
>>42101034
Thanks for running Gobble, even if I missed the whole thread again. Oh well! And don't worry about the smut too much, if you can't make it work I'm sure there are other scenes anons want.
