Madblade – The blade’s enchantment is far more intricate than previously expected, there seems to be a feedback loop that cycles magical energy between the blade and its wielder.

Time distortion – It should be possible to use the advancements in modifications of space and gravity to expand control to time itself.

Lazarus serum – The researchers are trying to utilize samples of the giant lizard’s blood to study the implant that you gave it. Extraction of the nanites has thus far been unsuccessful.


Current problems

>Teleport runes – Several energy dense areas have been picked up by the scanners. Nothing has teleported down yet but the arrays are charging for the transport of something big.


You flip through the latest research report while thinking on a course of action. You could counter invade to try to disable the teleporter, but it would be a gamble on which ring is trying to teleport down here.

“We can trap the area, anything incoming will be crippled easily enough.” You say. “Would you begin transporting supplies and goblins to the necessary areas Hestia?”

“One moment to gather the needed supplies.” Hestia states, then a few seconds later there is a flash from a teleport.


You find yourself just outside a large circular runic array, new circles of runes are forming as the energy for the teleport builds. This teleportation process seems different then how Hestia has been teleporting things around. Goblins are wandering about the area and there are several boxes of explosives and mechanisms.

“Chief what yous need?” The goblins ask.

“Around these circles of light I need you to set up lots of traps.”


You work quickly with the goblins planting hidden explosives around the area. Anything that comes through is going to have a very bad day, or so you hope the goblins seem to have been messing around a lot.


“It is time to return, the power is spiking.” Hestia’s voice rings out, there is another flash and you find yourself back in the city.

“Changing view to observe incoming teleport.” Hestia’s monitor change to show the various runic circles.


While you wait you take the smaller orb and try to slice it with your sword, but nothing happens. Perhaps they really are indestructible? You shrug and eat it, you feel power begin to swell with you and then you take the larger orb; it is a foot wide you can exactly eat it but you try anyways. The orb distorts and is pulled down your throat.

“There are unusual power emanations coming from you, are you sure that eating the soul orbs was wise?” Hestia asks.

Before when you tried this the power forced itself into you manifesting however it wanted to but this time something has changed. You can feel the power trying to exert its influence but you are in full control to guide the change.

As the changes pass you see on Hestia’s monitor that the teleport invasion has begun. Thousands of horned beasts are being torn to shreds by your explosive traps. A few hundred are all that remain when all the traps have been triggered. Then something else is teleported down and the runes clear. Strange beasts with many mouths, grasping claws, writhing tentacles, and bloated eyes drag their bodies towards your city. Any of the horned beasts than get too close are ripped apart by gnashing teeth as the new creatures consume them. There are a dozen of the grotesque creatures slowly approaching the city.

Being honest, i thought laser mod would be more than ranking it up. Mod i plies it's set to do something different than a straight progression might, like add an effect that otherwise wouldn't be gained.

“Hestia, would to teleport me to the wall, I want to try out my laser on these things.”

“Have I mentioned that it is impossible for lasers to be generated in the manner you do so?” Hestia asks before a flash of light envelops you.


You look out over the walls, the creatures are grouped in sets of twos so at best you can laser two of them from here. Oh well you can move later if needed. You take aim at a group of the creatures and channel mana for a laser.

A wall of light tears itself free from your mouth far larger than you expected. Two creatures are instantly vaporized leaving behind a gouge in the ground that crackles with bolts of electrical discharge. The horned beasts that were behind the creatures were reduced to charred corpses from the electrical discharge.


The crackle of electricity increases from where your laser struck the ground, and lasers form from the electrical discharge. The smaller lasers cut through the horned beasts before spiraling into a central point. The converging lasers form a mass of energy which detonates, crippling the remnants of horned beast army.

Have a bombardment begin. Continue using lasers until things are too close for comfort.

You know what we should research? The cleaners. Find a way to absorb mana and convert matter to mana.

Your laser is significantly stronger than you remember it being before, but you feel like there is something more to it still. Oh well, you command the goblins to open fire with the cannons, and the rapid fire of explosive rounds begins. The few horned beasts are quickly killed off, and the creatures are blasted apart. When the smoke clears all the invaders are dead –


Then the chunks of flesh from the creatures’ turns into a thick ooze and spreads out melting the remains of the horned beasts. The goblins open fire again but the cannons are no longer effective. The mass of ooze consumes all the corpses on the battle field and reforms into a massive version of the fleshy masses.


It towers over your walls as it gropes and claws ever closer to the city.

You pull out your trusty flask and drink some potion to prepare for another laser. You charge your mana for the attack, but then wonder about this hot tingling feeling that you’ve been feeling since absorbing the souls. So you try to add the heat into the laser.

The flames of hell spew forth from your mouth setting you on fire.


The smell of burning flesh fills the air as both you and the creature burn.


There is mind numbing pain as your body is constantly burned and regenerated.


The flames covering slowly burn out leaving you to see the carnage you have wrought.


A large swath of the land in front of your city has been replaced with a sea of ever burning flame. No remnants of the creature exists as all evidence of its existence has been purged by the flames of hell.

“Normally I would question how you did that.” Hestia chimes in over a nearby speaker. “Instead I will be thankful that you have created a safe source of hellfire for future experiments.”

“Yea and then he wanted thousands of them prepared. Won’t even-” The researchers are cut short as the light from your teleportation fills the area for a moment.


Panicked screams fill the air as men and women in lab coats flee the area.

“Hestia if you can take over their systems.” You call out.

“Of course, I will attempt to disable any defensive measures and the teleporter out.”

“Ayla, try not to kill anyone or blow anything up and take half the goblins that way to round up researchers.” You point down the hallway. “I’ll take the other direction.”

“Master! I’m not that bad.” Ayla huffs and floats away down the hall with the goblins.

You use your red access to open doors for the goblins to storm through. They grab any people they find and leave behind scanners in the rooms. Your new prisoners are taken back to where Hestia is working to be held. The panicking researchers don’t even try to fight back at the sight of the armed goblins. You are able to make great progress quickly clearing out a massive section of the ring. Part way through your sweep Hestia contacts you.


“I have taken control of the ring’s operation, access to releasing experiments has been sealed, all doors are now open and the teleporter is offline.” She states. “Ayla has only destroyed four doors, her progress was impeded by lack of access.”


“Good, that was fast, do you have a map of the floor?”


“I will upload it to you now.”

It seems that everything and everyone is accounted for. Everything seems to have gone smoothly, too smoothly. There wasn’t even a security presence in this ring. Something more must be going on.

You make your way back around the circle to where Hestia and the goblins are holding the prisoners. You have captured the entire staff of this ring, two hundred and twelve researchers. The goblins have checked them for weapons and keycards, they all have lower than your red access though. Most of them are huddled together cowering away from the goblins, a few a quietly talking to each other. As you approach a man stands up.

“What are humans working with goblins for? I demand to know what is going on!” He suddenly pulls a knife which bursts into flame. “Ha! You’re clearly their leader if you die they will flee!”

“Hey wait! I’m not a human, how rude.” Ayla tries to protest.


The man ignores her and he stabs you in the face, the blade snaps from the impact but doesn’t even manage to scratch you.


You grab the man by the throat and lift him off the ground.

“I’ve been to hell and back and personally killed those monsters you keep sending down to mess with me, you think a knife scares me?” The man gurgles helplessly as you continue, “Now I want to know why you all keep trying to invade my city.”


The people just stare in shock, until one of them begins to babble about it all being the fault of the man you are holding off the ground. The others all quickly agree. A bit more questioning along with the records Hestia pulls indicate that they really do know nothing at all about what is going on, they didn’t even know that ring four was taken out by you. All they know is that their normal research was suspended to help supply thousands of Minotaurs for some secret project.


Information blackout perhaps? The researchers all claim innocence and want to be let go.

As your speech continues Ayla jumps in to send you ideas on what to say to have maximum impact, while using her smoke to spread out and make illusions so everything is even more impressive. You go on listing the benefits of joining you and the work you have done. Ayla points out things like their fears of being eaten, how there is no technology in the pit, and their worries about pay and seeing loved ones. You mange to navigate your way through all the issues with your silver tongue and in the end the researchers have steel in their eyes and now longer cower in fear of the goblins. They agree to help you.

You spend some time making small talk with the researches, shaking hands and so forth. Ayla is also very popular splitting her attention between new fans and a group of people trying to explain that the snake with wings is not a pet and should be placed back into containment. Ayla of course ignores them because you gave it to her and she’ll do whatever she wants to.


“I have prepared everything for transport, unless there is something more you wish to do.” Hestia states.

This gets the attention of several researches who are shocked that you have an artificial intelligence working with you as well since the last news that they heard was no one could manage to create one stable enough to continue operating for any amount of time.


You double check on the prisoner to ensure that the goblins have secured him, no more hidden knives or anything, and try to speak with him more but he refuses to talk, for now.

“Hestia would you begin sending everything to the city?” You ask. “I am going to inspect the bio tanks and maybe the supernatural lab.”

“I have a full list of all equipment and experiments. Including the contents of the tanks such action is not needed.”

“Yes but I tend to find things that are not on any manifests you took.”

“Very well, try not to break reality too much.”


“Master, Sazglangolor wants to go too!” Ayla grabs you from behind.

“Who?”

“Sazglangolor” She holds up the snake with wings.

“Couldn’t you name it something more, like a name you won’t forget in a couple seconds?“

“How could I forget the name of a cute thing like Sazglangolor?” She nuzzles the snake as it tries to bite her face off.


So you take Ayla and, the snake, with you to check out the bio tanks.

They seem to be normal pods to contain and grow creatures of various sizes. The cloning tech that Hestia made for cloning the parasites seems to be similar to these. All the tanks are newly emptied; they must have been containing the horned beasts. You look around for any indication that those strange fleshy masses were created here as well but there doesn’t seem to be any.


So you head off to the supernatural labs.


“Oh! This is where I found Sazglangolor master.” Ayla points to a door that has been blasted to pieces.

“Let’s try looking in another room then.”


You enter a room, there is a large amount of equipment dedicated to studying a single egg that is suspended within a force field. It is helpfully labeled as unknown specimen.

“Woah! Master I don’t think this was here before. I don’t remember this room.” Ayla says. “I think that that little eggy here is smart. I can hear it trying to think.”

You disable the protective force field and pick up the egg, it is significantly heavier than you expected and you are not sure if you can feel magic from it or not. You can tell that it is alive, very alive and happy to be moved away from the containment area. You put the eggs into your backpack, wait eggs? Right, there are four of them of course there is four of them. Ayla looks a bit confused but it’s time to go, not debate how that shouldn’t happen.


“Hestia we are ready to go.”


There is no response so you fiddle around with the computers; it seems that the room you are in is not connected to the rest of the ring, strange. You head out into the hallway and Hestia contacts you instantly.


“Where did you go?” She asks, “You vanished from the sensors when you entered a room that was previously non-existent.”


“We were just looking around, found an, err, some eggs of something.” You respond. “I think we’ve seen everything of interest though so it’s time to head back home.”

“Teleportation engaged.” Hestia says, and with a flash of light you are back at your city.

We don't really have any souls to devour right now, and neither of those will help with the eggs I think. Which are probably going to be our next focus, considering how weird and mysterious they are.

So with 3x multiplier on healing effects, does that mean it's 6 hp per four on the healing touch? And does that effect the curing of disease at all?
I also noticed that it no longer states a penalty on unlife effects. Error, or does this rank actually mean we've got enough control over it to prevent the penalty?
