>You are a villager girl named Ellen from a small village in the nation of Neir, on the continent of Teege. As a member of the local militia/guard, you were trained in swordplay. Your fighting style is best compared to the mercenary class, though you're officially considered a knight of Neir.

>You have escaped an underground dungeon complex in the Dain Empire, and are currently trying to make it back to Heim's capital, and then to Neir's from there.

>The questmasters are Octoling (myself), and Grandflaw. There's no particular rhyme or reason to who posts when, and sometimes one of us might not appear all.

>Character Death is always a possibility (this is Fire Emblem after all), but your actions can very easily influence who lives and who dies.

>Voting periods will last an average of ten to fifteen minutes, but this may be increased, decreased, or generally changed at any given moment based on voter turnout.

You've gotten out of Dain well-enough, begun to head east. Much to you and your companions' delight, this means needing to subject yourselves to traveling through the desert again.

As always, the magic-users of your party aren't remotely inhibited by the sand, but Quidel is complaining a lot about his feet hurting, responded to by Vaga telling him he should've gotten off his horse more often. Their bickering is mostly kept between themselves, however.

Princess Kia tried to blaze the trail at first, but her five-year-old feet were too tired to keep it up. Since then, Vaga's, er, friends have all been taking turns carrying her, responding to her questions about what and who they are with varying degrees of patience.

Yancy is keeping the closest to the Mage General's twins out of anybody, finding quickly that Bovis does not make for the best conversation.

You keep seeing that Asra girl here and there, far ahead of and far behind the rest of her allies, and Victoria and Laurina are making awkward conversation, trailing slightly behind you and Gorman.

Miles and Devon are leading the group from up front as Bryce stays pretty much in the exact center of everyone.

>A. Approach some group
Victoria, See how she's handling the desert.
>>
>>42074566
You start to walk alongside Victoria and Laurina. As you get closer, the former is saying, "urgh... All this footwork, it is... It is overwhelming, punishing."

"We're all doing it," Laurina says, "and I don't think you've lost enough weight to be carried like Kia."

"Yet it is enough to feel the onset of atrophy... I suppose it's for the best, though, to be working out again like so."

"Okay, good to hear you've figured that out."

Laurina walks slightly forward, still not being especially fond of Victoria, happiness that she isn't dead aside. She spends some time talking to Gorman as you ask Victoria how she's faring.

"Well, thank you for asking, Ellen, but I'm... certain it's apparent." Victoria takes a very long drink of water before turning towards the fallen hometown hero and the nomad (Vaga is currently halfheartedly shouting cliche motivational lines at Quidel), "at least I'm handling it better than horseman over there... Come to think of it, do you think it's dead?"

"I'd... really rather not think about that, especially not when Quidel can hear us from here. Let's just... assume that it ran back to Elza Oasis and is waiting for us there! I mean, we were close enough that Katina and Yancy caught up with us pretty fast..."

Victoria nods, "right, right, now isn't the time for that sort of thought..."

Asra appears at the front of the group, saying "Sharlow Village is just up ahead. From a cursory glance, it should be safe to rest there." Then she disappears behind the stragglers, apparently permanently on back-scouting duty now.

"You heard her," Miles announces, "just up ahead, everyone."

Victoria sighs. "Urgh, finally..."

>A. Push on forward.

You don't really change anything about your movements, just keeping up the pace and the pleasant conversation. You don't talk about much that's substantial, but it is pleasant regardless, and you also find yourselves listening in on Gorman and Laurina's conversation a lot.

"And you only found this out after you'd stopped working as a pirate."

"Yeah. He was m... er, trapped on an island for awhile."

"You couldn't stop hearing about your father, growing up in Dain. Have you considered visiting him?"

"...pirate hellscape."

"Ah, yes, of course. Perhaps if he changes that, though."

Their conversation peters out into small talk there, too, and soon into absolutely nothing (Laurina isn't good at small talk).

Sharlow Village isn't magically-protected like Elza Oasis, and things generally aren't nearly as nice as said capital, but the place is hardly a dried-up hellhole, your party is quick to find.

All Miles needs to say is that the group are mercenaries, passing through to Elza Oasis, and the apparent mayor or something of the like is quick to show your lot around the town (the old fellow benignly makes a slightly off-color remark about the Garou's dogness, but doesn't seem remotely hostile towards them), even pointing Miles towards an inn in case the group stops traveling here for the day.

You whiz by the apparent mayor apologizing awkwardly but sincerely to the garou, citing his not usually seeing garou around, and immediately head for the apparent location of the inn. The day still has a ways to go, but places like that have to have food.

The food's not great, just slightly more comfortable than you're especially comfortable with, but what else can you do in a place like this? You're not picky anyway.

Victoria, having followed you there, disagrees vehemently, however, chewing through the crap like it's the most amazing thing in the world.

You consider saying something about this, but question if that would be in poorer taste than the food in front of you.

Anyway, Victoria actually beats you to the punch, joking, "have my refined tastes dulled so much over the years?"

Taking the opportunity, you respond with, "so Bolse and all them didn't spoil you in Aum?"

Victoria shakes her head, "Lars would apparently send me things sometimes 'for my consideration,' but I would only ever find out when Captain Willow showed me herself eating the final morsels, describing them."

"For your consideration? Of what?"

"I believe he wanted me to become his underling or something. He claimed that he often made excuses to his grandfather about being unable to create Draco 'until the conditions are right,' that he could simply let me be if I would swear to serve Dain-well, serve his own agenda, actually, but act as though it was the former-but I wouldn't have any of that. Like I've said, I am fiercely protective of what little pride I have left."

"This is getting a bit heavy... Wanna just get more food?"

"Please," she says with a grin.

In the time you're there, you and Victoria predate and outlast the entries of the Great Miles and Kia, followed by the twins and their deadlord manservant (the innkeeper seemed... uncomfortable with Bovis. That makes two of you, you suppose).

"Urgh, enough... I could eat like this awhile, but I fear anymore might make us ill, or completely drain our wallets."

I don't think there's much either of you could do, with what that means. Even Laurina probably shouldn't come along, really... She's strong, but what she's got won't be enough..."

"What do you think this means, exactly?"

"Are you familiar with the Peshkatz Group?"

You're not, and start to shake your head as Victoria's eyes widen. Noting your reaction, Victoria explains, "they are a... Well, in short, an Assassin's Guild of sorts. It's understandable that you wouldn't know they exist, since they're not particularly widely known to exist outside of the circles of high society."

Devon continues, "it's... not known who leads them, and Miles was never told more by his father than that they exist, let alone how to summon them, but... Asra was a runaway, apparently having been raised since birth to act in the Group's will. She didn't even tell us this until after they sent one of their number to 'retrieve' her. That one didn't survive, and it's been years since we've heard... Well, literally anything about them. We figured that they simply took the hint and cut their losses after Asra killed the guy they sent, but... Maybe if someone who has reason to follow us managed to contact them..."

"Then we could be dealing with super-secret assassins and Dain chasing us? That's too dangerous for just you three and hopefully Asra! Either we all go, or we just press forward!"

Victoria nods, "I would... really hate for one of you to be captured after all this effort, especially by the Peshkatz."

Devon closes her eyes, "I was afraid you would say that..." She wields a staff, beginning to wave it in the air, "when you wake up, please, just... Keep going towards Elza, if we're not here."

"Staves aren't known for accuracy when someone thinks to dodge them," you recall Gorman telling you once, "but the fact of the matter is that most people never see a sleep, berserk, or offensive staff in general. I know Nat's probably never handled one, but I wouldn't be surprised if you crossed paths with the wrong end of one someday. Be ready if it happens."

Fantastic magic-user or not, you can easily overpower Devon, knocking her out without much trouble.

"I... feel bad, but I would really rather nobody risks their lives if it's that hopeless to chase after them. We should just... Hurry up to Elza Oasis. We need to get Bolse, Katina, and Kia to safety."

You and Victoria agree to gather everybody and regroup as quickly as possible.

You're the one who has the imminent pleasure of encountering Miles while lugging around his unconscious fiancee, by this point having gotten Laurina and Vaga to your side.

"Sorry, Miles. Devon, she said that she was going to just try to head out there into the desert with you and Bryce to look for Asra. Then she attacked us with this sleep staff so we wouldn't follow her. It was... really all I could do to stop her."

Miles closes his eyes, sighing, "and she probably would have gone out looking for her even if Bryce and I refused, meaning of course we would have... purely on principle, I'm not going to thank you for knocking out the love of my life, but... I understand."

"Haven't heard from Asra at all, then?"

Miles shakes his head, "and I figure she had the same idea of who might be responsible for that as we did. Devon has always felt... Well, closer to Asra than any of us ever did, and Asra's loyalty to the Great Miles has been constant, not to mention being a damn fine scout... It hurts, we wouldn't have been able to save the princess or the mage general's children without her, but... I'm afraid you had the right idea, preventing us from going back for her."

In a short time, you and Victoria reunite, having gathered up all of the escapees and Great Miles, bar Asra. Your stay in Sharlow Village turned out just brief enough to catch your collective breaths and resupply for the last leg of the journey home.

In a short time, you and Victoria reunite, having gathered up all of the escapees and Great Miles, bar Asra. Your stay in Sharlow Village turned out just brief enough to catch your collective breaths and resupply for the last leg of the journey home.

Devon woke up in a short time, and was... Well, she was cross, but she didn't try to pull anything.

Miles addresses the group, "so, we have adequate reason to believe that we're being followed, as you all know by now. You've probably also been told, by now, of the Peshkratz Group. If even one of their assassins is with whoever from Dain is tailing us, we could very well be in grave danger. This town could be in very grave danger if we stay for too long. "We can't just leave her behind!"

Miles actually looks a bit... surprised. "Weren't you the one that knocked out Devon so she wouldn't go back for her?"

"So she wouldn't go back for her alone, or with just two people! The way she described it, that sounded like suicide!"

Devon chimes in, "but... someone needs to get the twins and Kia somewhere safe..."

"Hey, we can handle ourselves," Katina exclaims, met with an agreeing huff from Kia and Bolse sort of staring at the ground, not feeling like paying much attention.

"Did someone call for a coward?" Vaga says, pointing himself and his hunnies out. "We can get them to Elza, put in a good word before you get back."

"I... need to get back to my post as well," Yancy says, adjusting his glasses, "and I only came out this far to make sure Lady Katina came back."

"I told you I'm not going back while people stay!" Katina sounds insistent.

Kia seems to change her mind, "um, maybe we should..."

"Then suit yourself, princess! My magic is too good to waste!"

Since it wasn't entirely clear, supporting Katina has absolutely no bearing on whether or not Ellen and the rest go back (it's clear that that's what's going to happen).

It purely has bearing on which way Katina goes.

"And you'll get to travel with me and my friends," Vaga says. You can tell that he's... not remotely comfortable playing to Katina's affections, but if it gets her to come along.

And get her to come along it does.

Vaga, his hunnies, Yancy, the twins, and Kia see the rest of your lot off.

Bovis signs something with Bolse, ultimately nodding and walking towards Miles. "I have been asked to aid your own efforts before returning to Master Bolse."

Gorman nods, "I suspect that there will be wyverns among the forces chasing us, meaning that their catching up was an inevitability."

Miles has reached the same conclusion, you soon discover, and is currently discussing two possibilities with Devon and Bryce. Perhaps you can be of assistance.

>A. Agree with Devon's suggestion that you all head out to meet the people chasing you. Time is of the essence and you can't endanger Sharlow Village

It's not about if you or me feel bad about it, It's if Ellen would feel bad about it, And so far she really doesn't seem to care about anyone but her friends as has been shown in the dungeon.

"I think Bryce actually has a fair point. If they're coming for us, then Asra's living status won't change however fast we rush out to meet them, but... That mayor guy, or whatever his job was. We need to get his permission before dragging this entire town into this. I mean, I don't have a feeling Dain's guys will be the nicest to Sharlow Village anyway. Warning them of what may be coming, at least, is fair."

"Of course," Miles says, "I'll... fill him in on some more of the details. In the meantime, set up defenses outside of the city, someone alert whatever local guard they have that we'll soon have company."

Quidel and Bryce delegate themselves to telling the local guard while Miles and Devon handle the mayor. You, Bovis, Gorman, Victoria, and Laurina start keeping watch from the edge of the city.

Sure enough, in a short period of time, you see wings flapping on the horizon.

You address the ex-Lambert, "Bovis, tell everyone that wyverns have been sighted and then immediately come out."

"Understood." He quickly runs into the town.

You draw your Wyrmslayer, pilfered from the body of Captain Willow, and go out to meet the incoming horde.

"What are you doing," Gorman exclaims, "going out alone?"

A short conversation later, he's following you, and Victoria and Laurina invite themselves along as well.

You find yourselves staring down a band of... About a dozen or so wyvern riders. Well, eleven riders and one lord, a fellow who quite frankly looks like a bearded Willow.

He takes a few looks at your quartet, saying first, "so... You're my baby brother's friend, aren't you? Goron, right?"

"It's... Gorman. I was worried for a moment that Derrick might be leading the charge himself."

A fellow who doesn't seem important says, "h-hey, show captain Roderick some respect! You're lucky you haven't already been-"

"Shush. You there, tall girl. Where did you get that sword?"

You ask if Roderick means a duel to the death, but he actually laughs at the concept.

"I know what that weapon, mom's weapon, is capable of, and I also know that you didn't give her that chance. No, I want to run you through when you can do nothing. THEN I'll turn your friend loose."

Before you have time to refuse, Laurina says, "...show her to us, then. We won't negotiate until we know she's alive at all."

Roderick agrees, telling one of his subordinates to fly back and get her. He promptly leaves the scene to do so.

"So, by nature of this deal, it's... sort of hard for us to know you'll keep up your end of the bargain. Me in particular, since I have the most to lose from this, how do I know you'll let Asra return to us?"

"Would it reassure you if I promised to keep you alive until you saw her return?"

Laurina turns around and says, "see whoever's alive later, I guess," before heading back towards Sharlow Village.

"Smart girl," Roderick says, "knowing to get away from the wyverns. Of course, if you follow her example, I'll tell my subordinate the deal's off and kill you all."

You just sort of... keep quiet. Victoria looks disgruntled with Laurina having backed off, Gorman looks between you and Roderick, and you wonder where the hell Miles and the rest are.

After at least a solid 15 minutes, Roderick wonders where the hell his underling is, sending another after him. "See whatever the hell's taking that idiot so long."

In a much shorter time, sounding panicked, he says, "he's fallen asleep, sir! Prisoner is nowhere to be seen!"

A familiar discordant, vaguely-musical sound plays, and a beam of light hits the fellow from behind, knocking him off his wyvern as Bryce and Devon appear behind the horde.

A significantly-large fireball takes down the third wyvern rider to be incapacitated, some guy on the edge.

"You were so fixated on revenge, Roderick," Miles' voice rings, "that you didn't actually watch your crew."

Victoria looks surprised, muttering "she noticed all that..."

Anyway, now Roderick is rushing right towards you and Victoria.

Making certain to strike from a direction that distracts the Killer Lance from your Sniper friend, you attack Roderick, swinging your Wyrmslayer as threateningly as possible.

Roderick and his mount actually back off, not wanting to meet the business end of his mom's signature sword. Of course, being a distance away is, frankly, perfect for an archer.

While Victoria takes aim with Ronan, she actually turns and fires at a completely different rider who Laurina was having some trouble with.

His wyvern dodges right into a shot fired by Quidel, and the poor thing is unable to take flight.

Rising up, Roderick angrily charges the nomad...

And right into the path of a throwing knife, courtesy of Asra. "...sorry for causing trouble."

Aside from the sleeping sap, who is quickly captured, the rest of the surviving Wyvern riders take this as a hint that they really shouldn't bother and retreat.

None of you know where the alleged Peshkatz is, though, which is... Exceptionally worrying.
