Sheeva throws Kaito, who regains his wits in time to teleport out of the path of Goro's punch. The bewildered shokan prince is then kicked in the back of the head as Kaito uses the momentum of the throw against him. As Goro goes down, Kaito grabs his topknot and shocks him with a burst of electricity before both hit the groung, with Kaito rolling forwards. Sheeva charges in and Kaito claps his hands, creating a thunderous flash that temporarily blinds her and causes her to fumble and fall.

Behind him, Goro moans as he pushes himself up to his feet with all four arms. "You... You weak mortal... I am the prince of the shokan... I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED BY A HUMAN!"

Kaito chuckles. "What, like Johnny?"

Goro throws out all four arms and roars as he tries to grab Kaito.

As Goro reaches for him, Kaito throws his legs forward and slides under the shokan, slamming a fist into his groin. The four-armed warrior roars in pain, but this time does not allow himself to be stunned. He reaches down and picks up Kaito, gritting his teeth as he ignores the throbbing below.

Holding the human in all four arms, he pushes inwards. Kaito shouts as Goro prepares to crush him.

"I will shatter your spine! I will crush your skull!" Goro shouts. Kaito attempts to kick his chest but the shokan's tense skin is like stone.

Behind him, Sheeva shakes her head and thinks she sees Kaito, but does not see Goro. All four of her hands alight with flame and she hurls a fireball at Kaito's back.

The fireball hits Kaito directly in the back, burning through his shirt and scorching his skin. The earthrealm warrior screams in pain and Goro laughs at his misery. He pushes harder and Kaito feels the immense pressure as Goro prepares to literally turn him into a toothpaste tube.

Kaito tries to focus on summoning up electrical energy but his mind if blanked from pain as he feels his left arm begin to break under the shokan's grip.

Goro smiles, ready to finally end this affront to his honor.

WHEN SUDDENLY!

A skinless figure, with one eye hanging out of his socket and blood continually dripping from his red flesh leaps upon Goro's back! The crowd of the arena roars and Kaito is let go!

The human falls onto his back and he looks up to see Meat, the strange experiment he freed earlier from prison! The bloody figure claws at Goro's face, tearing at his cheeks and eyes! Goro roars in anger and frustration as he tries to reach behind himself and get rid of the slippery flesh monster, but he cannot!

Kaito can hardly believe it. Meat was true to his word! He came back!

Nearby, Sheeva's sight fully recovers. She looks down at Kaito and prepares to leap atop him, using her natural shokan prowess to leap high into the air.

Kaito sees her coming and raises his one good arm up into the sky, charging it with lightning. He blasts her out of the sky again, and when she falls, he collects some of his blood, drawing the water from it, and throws it into her eyes.

This does not immediately blind her, however. She rises to her feet and stumbles towards Kaito, who gets up himself and holds his wounded left arm.

"Sheeva! Snap out of it! You owe me a life-debt, remember? What would Duroc think of you? I met him! He's alive, Sheeva! You don't have to be a pawn of Shao Kahn, or any sorcerer for that matter!"

Nearby, Goro manages to grab Meat by the leg and smash him against the ground. He does this several times until all that is left of him is a bloody mess.

He then turns and stalks towards Kaito, but not before Meat's shattered body reforms and he leaps on Goro's back once more.

Kaito continues. "Sheeva! Remember who you are!"

The female shokan stops and slowly shakes her head. "I... I am..." She grabs the sides of her head and screams. "AAAARRRRRGH! I AM SHOKAN!"

"Sheeva! Destroy him!" Shao Kahn shouts.

When she opens her eyes again, they are not pure red, but a familiar fiery orange. "I will not be controlled! Quan Chi, your spell means nothing to me!"

Shao Kahn scowls and Quan Chi prepares to signal to Noob Saibot.

Nearby, Goro and Meat drift dangerously close to a pit of acid, a pool created by runoff from the Dead Pool. The shokan prince continues to struggle with Meat.

Kaito sees his chance. "MEAT! JUMP OFF!"

The skinless experiment hears him and leaps from Goro's back. Kaito charges at the shokan prince and leaps high into the air and drop-kicks him with all of his might.

Goro roars as he falls back, the bright green acid splashing as he falls into the pool. The shokan breaks the surface and tries to grab onto the edge, but loses his grip as the flesh of his hand begins to melt. Goro's eyes go wide as his eyelids dissolve along with his cheeks and all of his skin; the pool begins to turn red as his flesh is melted off by the bubbling acid. The crowd screams with delight and anger (mostly the shokans in the crowd) as Goro, prince of all shokan, is killed, his skeleton, bleached white, drifts on the surface.

"Rokuro's gonna be pissed," Kaito laments.

Kaito steps back with Meat and Sheeva as the crowd cheers again. Shao Kahn then raises a hand, and all are silenced.

"You have fought well, human," Shao Kahn concedes. "You have also ridded me of the shokan prince. Goro had failed me far too many times since the Mortal Kombat tournament, but I was willing to let him prove useful once more. I will not miss him. The centaurs will take the place of the shokan as my favored warriors."

Sheeva, enraged, points at Shao Kahn. "You have betrayed the shokan's trust, Shao Kahn!"

"The shokan have failed," the Emperor shrugs. "Motaro, silence her."

The four-legged centaur steps forward.

"As for you two..." Shao Kahn says, looking at Meat and Kaito.

The black wraith vanishes into a portal in the ground and then pops out before Kaito. "Now, you face both of me," He says as his oily clone emerges from his back.

Kaito narrows his eyes and looks over as the three Brotherhood assassins target Meat. Nearby, Sheeva begins to battle Motaro.

"Alright, if you're the next one I have to go through, I don't care if there's two or three of you to go around. You're next."

Kaito tries to ignore the pain in his left arm as he holds up his hands and prepares to fight.

Kaito tries to focus on using the water in his spilt blood to heal the injury on his arm.

"So, Bi-Han, what's it like to go from Lin Kuei's number one to Quan Chi's number two?"

The wraith says nothing as he approaches Kaito, his shadow clone following behind him, mirroring his movements perfectly.

Kaito lashes out at Noob, trying to unleash the full fury of his bloody hands fighting style. The former Lin Kuei shadow spectre moves with unnatural speed as he blocks each and every single one of Kaito's punches. Noob does not appear to be even having a single ounce of difficulty in doing so.

Saibot kicks Kaito into the leg, forcing down onto a knee. Noob grabs hold of his left wrist and twists, sending pain shooting up Kaito's arm.

"Would it help if I apologized for not saving you from Scorpion?" he says.

"No."

Noob twists more and Saibot kicks him in the face.

Noob vanishes into a purple portal on the ground, reappearing and leaping up to his feet behind Kaito. He kicks the human in the back before teleporting underneath him, grabbing him, and dragging him into a realm of eternal darkness, oil and shadow. Kaito is then spit back out into the arena not far away, slammed onto the ground by Noob Saibot, who stands atop him, who reaches for Kaito's neck.

Noob and Saibot separate once more. Nearby, Sheeva fights valiantly against Motaro, but appears to be losing the fight. Meat fights savagely against the three assassins, but is not faring much better. Quan Chi is near the pool of acid, inspecting Goro's skeleton, and Shao Kahn laughs at the violence and the crowd goes wild from the show.

Kaito looks over at Asgaarth, still beaten and bloody, and considers trying to escape. Surely the others must have made some progress up until now...

Noob Saibot blasts Kaito with another wave of ghostly power, draining him of his energy. Kaito is unable to summon up more electricity and the spectre stalks towards him like a reaper, reaching out with a hand to grab Kaito by the throat as the mist robs him of his energy.

"You were the one who let Scorpion drag me to hell," Noob says as he squeezes Kaito's throat. "Now, I will send you there personally. Prepare yourself." He holds up a hand and oily black tendrils emerge from his fingers, heading towards Kaito's eyes. Kaito grabs Noob's hand and tries to wrench him off, to no avail.

Suddenly, Noob pauses as he looks down. His legs are frozen solid and the ice creeps up his waist. He struggles, but in a moment, is completely frozen.

Suddenly, Sub-Zero leaps down from the side of the arena and kicks him, shattering his elder brother into pieces. Kaito tears the frozen chunk of his hand off of his neck and throws it aside.

He hears Sareena shouting as well, and looks over to see her leap atop Motaro's back and stab him with a knife, distracting him long enough for Sheeva to escape.

"We must flee!" Sub-Zero urges him as Kaito runs to Asgaarth's body.

Shao Kahn stands up from his throne. He points at the warriors and shouts, "I have had enough of these interruptions! Bring them before me, on their knees or dead, I care not!"

Reiko, Skarlet, Ermac, Mileena and the others leap down and prepare to join the fray. Kaito hoists up Asgaarth and looks on as they form a wall between him and Turana.

He looks the sphinx in the eyes. "I'm sorry," he whispers as Noob's energy disruption effect wears off. "I'll come back for you, I promise." He raises a fist to the sky and shouts as he summons up every last fragment of his power to bring forth the red lightning. A single bolt of it manages to fall from the sky, striking the ground of the arena and splitting it slightly; creating just a wide enough gap and causing stones to jut out from the earth to stop them from immediate pursuit. Motaro falls into the newly created crevice, allowing Sheeva to flee. Sub-Zero helps with Asgaarth as well as they make for the arena exit.

"AFTER THEM!" Shao Kahn shouts as guards begin to leap into the arena.

Kaito, Sub-Zero, Sheeva, Sareena, with Asgaarth along with them, manage to make it to the arena's cells. There, a riot started by Khameleon releasing the prisoners earlier is further distraction for their pursuers.

"Where... Where is Rain?" Kaito asks.

"He would not come back for you once we had what we came for," Khameleon replies. "He left."

Kaito curses under his breath as the roars of centaurs, shokan and tarkatans can be heard. "This way!" Khameleon shouts as she leads them down into the Dead Pool. Once within, she takes them across a stone walkway between the pools of acid and up to a large grate. She pulls a lever and the grate opens, allowing them to escape. She closes it behind them.

"We need to make it to the ship," Kaito says.

"The entire city will be on alert now," Khameleon replies. "Our best bet is to stay hidden underground until it dies down."

"We can't stay in the city," Sareena replies. "They'll find us far too easilly. I say we keep running."

Khameleon sighs, but doesn't question him. As she leads them on, Kaito looks around.

"Hey, wait, where's Meat? I thought he was with us!"

"I didn't see him following us," Sheeva replies.

"Who is Meat?" Sareena asks.

Up ahead, the waning light of the moon can be seen. They emerge from a stone tube into the more run-down section of the marketplace.

Khameleon begins to lead them through the alleyways, towards the docks. All around them, the sounds of the guards and the angered warband can be heard, closing in.

As the group rounds a corner, they stop when faced with the silhouette of a man in a hat.

"Been lookin' for you," Erron says as he spies Kaito.

"Shit," Kaito says aloud.

Kaito looks at Erron. "Really? Now? Of all times? There's a bit more going on right now than you and me, cowboy! Besides, you're outnumbered."

Erron looks at the warriors around Kaito, all prepared to fight. He also hears the roars of the warband.

"It ain't in my interests to have to deal with your friends. But don't mistake it; I've still got a bullet with your name on it."

"Come on!" Khameleon shouts, pulling them towards the docks.

Kaito shoots one last look at Erron before running after her, still carrying Asgaarth. He doesn't know who hired that bounty hunter, but he knows that it's far from the last time he'll see him.

If he lives through this, of course.

Up ahead, the docks withstand the raging waves of Outworld's ocean. "Thank the fucking Elder Gods," Kaito breathes as he sees the Nethership. It seems prepped and ready to go.

Behind them, the first wave of Shao Kahn's minions reaches the top of the hill and sees them. They shout and charge down the hill towards them.

Kitana runs to the side of the ship and sees them approaching. "Hurry! Get to the dock!" she shouts.

Khameleon makes it first, followed by Sareena. Sheeva leaps up onto the ship and Kaito and Sub-Zero help Asgaarth up. Flaming arrows are fired in their general direction; some hit the water harmlessly, but others hit the hull.

As Kaito gets pulled up onto the deck, he sees Rain, using his power over water to put out any of the flaming arrows. The edenian prince then causes a large tidal wave to wash over their enemies as the ship pulls out of the harbor.

Kaito watches the minions get swept away by the water. At the helm, Kitana prepares to channel her energy into the Nethership's enchantment. A rolling bank of fog begins to encompass the vessel as she prepares to travel to Earthrealm.

When Shao Kahn supposedly died at the end of MK2 (in this quest) Kitana took over Outworld with help from others (Kaito helped out too). Rain and Tanya are both here on the boat, as the last few edenians have banded together.

Now this is a part that I didn't previously mention: When Shao Kahn returned in this quest to retake his fortress, he declared all remaining Edenians to be traitors and ordered their execution (with the exception of Mileena, who only has some Edenian blood in her from Kitana). So, Rain and Tanya are still on Kitana's side, since it's their only option, as the bridge with Shao Kahn has been burnt.

Also, Rain's trying to get into Kitana's pants, despite their long-ago engagement not working out (which is a plot point taken from Defenders of the Realm).

Kaito disregards the purple prick and runs over to Asgaarth. He takes some water from the ocean around him and concentrates on using it to heal him; infusing calm, serene thoughts into the globe of water and washing it over his wounds.

"I cannot believe I have done this," Sheeva laments. "My mind... was not my own."

Jagara puts her hand on her first cousin once removed's shoulder. "It's alright, Sheeva."

Kaito looks up at Jagara but finds difficulty looking her in the eye. "What is it?" she asks.

"I... I fought Goro in the arena. I'm sorry, Jagara. I killed him."

The young shokan is taken aback. "Goro... is he truly...?" She looks at Sheeva, who nods. The girls eyes drift down. "Did he... die well?"

Kaito blinks a few times as he remembers Goro's screams as his flesh melted off. "...Define 'well'."

Below, Asgaarth coughs. Kaito concentrates on healing his wounds.

Kitana, having done her work, runs down to kneel next to Asgaarth, placing his head in her lap. "Asgaarth... Speak to me, please..."

"...Little... dove..." he speaks. "I am glad... you are alright..."

A small tear rolls out of her eye as she gently pats his head. "That makes two of us, old friend..."

As Kaito tries to heal his wounds, Rain and Tanya approach, with the others hanging back. Kaito focuses on using his newfound powers, but Asgaarth's life is fading fast.

"Excuse me," a voice from behind says, drawing all of their attention. Kaito looks over his shoulder to see Raiden sitting on the railing. "I thought I would drop by."

Kaito looks desperately at the god of thunder and lightning. "Can you heal this man? Bird? Person?"

Raiden steps off the railing and approaches Asgaarth, holding up his hands. "Step back," he says as his hands begin to glow.

Asgaarth is enveloped in white light, to the point of almost being blinding. When Raiden steps back, the light fades, and a peaceful Asgaarth remains resting, all wounds healed and lost blood placed back into his wounds, leaving his feathers white once more.

Kitana kneels down to him and awakens him while Kaito looks at Raiden.

"Earthrealm is about to be invaded by Shao Kahn," he says. "He's got all of his forces ready; centaurs, shokan, tarkatans. We couldn't stop the invasion from happening."

Raiden places his arms behind his back. "I doubted he would be gone forever. It would be too great a blessing. This is most distressing news, however. If he mounts a full-scale invasion, Earthrealm's dimensional barriers will be seriously weakened. But, with our victory in the last tournament, as witnessed by the Elder Gods, he will not be able to merge the realms."

"He doesn't care," Kaito says. "He's in it purely to fuck Earth over now, out of spite. The Emperor is a sore loser."

Raiden looks around at the assembled warriors. "This is a good start, but I will need to collect more Earthrealm defenders if we are to repel this invasion. Do you know when it might start?"

Kaito shakes his head. "No idea."

Kitana helps Asgaarth to his feet. "Kaito... Raiden... I am in your debt."

"Don't worry about it," Kaito replies. "I only regret not being able to get Turana out."

"I secured the ORB!" Rain tells him, tearing off his purple veil. "It's in the hold in the ship! You're welcome, you ungrateful whelp!"

"Enough!" Kitana shouts. "Enough, all of you. Kaito, go to this... California. I will use the orb to contact Liu Kang."

Rain gives Kaito a foul look as Kaito walks back to Raiden. "I'm good now," he tells the thunder god.

"Good," Raiden says. "Then we are off."

With a flash of light and a crack of thunder, Raiden teleports the two of them away.

The shokan prince sits upon a large, four-armed throne as he looks down at Kaito.

Kaito pauses when he sees wires behind Goro. That, and the shokan looks a bit too thin.

Suddenly, Johnny leaps out with a staff. "HWYAH! I challenge you to Mortal Kombat... Kaito?"

Kaito blinks a few times. "Johnny, the hell is going on?"

"CUT!" someone nearby shouts. Suddenly the room comes to life as stage hands, set workers and other actors step out of hiding. A director runs up. "Who the hell are you? I want you off my set! You just interrupted my scene!"

"MY scene, Paul," Johnny says to the director. "And this is my friend. Kaito, come on, over here," he says, pulling him off to the side. "The hell are you doing here, man? We're filming Mortal Kombat: The Movie!"

"Johnny, listen to me. Earthrealm is---Wait, am I in the movie?"

"Well..." Johnny scratches the back of his head.

"Johnny..."

"I was going to give you a cameo, but I didn't know your cell. Also nobody knew where you were. And none of the others wanted to be in the movie so I figured you wouldn't either. Not even Sonya!"

"Okay, I'll put that aside for now: Earthrealm is about to be invaded."

"What? No way. We beat those Outworld dudes!"

A woman walks up to Johnny. "We're resetting in five minutes, Johnny," she says.

"Okay, thanks," Cage says before looking back to Kaito. "Look, Kaito, I can't just abandon a movie on set. I just got back and got this project off the ground! I mean, that Kasanoff jackass is producing it, but I've got a lot invested in it myself. I even co-wrote the screenplay!"

"Johnny, there's not going to be a movie, MUCH less an audience, if Earthrealm is invaded by Shao Kahn!"

Johnny thinks for a moment. "Damn. You're right about that one. But I can't just leave the set! The press would kill me!"

"So will the centaurs and shokan and tarkatans!" Kaito counters.

"Okay, fair enough point," Johnny concedes. "So, what do we do, exactly? Contact the military?"

"Somehow I don't think they'll believe us," Kaito says.

"I make one comment about 'ballistics in the Special Forces' and she doesn't want to talk to me again. Honestly, Kaito, women, right?"

"Tell me about it. You should try hitting on Outworld chicks; half the time they just end up trying to kill you."

"Different realm, same story," Johnny sighs.

A woman dressed as Sonya and a man dressed as Liu Kang walk by. "Who are they?" Kaito asks. "The actors, I mean."

"Oh, that's Bridgette and Robin. Heh, you should see the guy we got playing Shang Tsung, he's great. Does this great thing with his voice, and the guy playing Kano is--"

Suddenly, nearby, an explosion goes off. People start screaming and running away.

"Is that part of the movie?" Kaito asks.

"There are no special effects in this scene!" Johnny replies and they both run towards the sound.

Suddenly, a truck comes crashing through the wall, upside-down; it was thrown. Outside, they hear a roar.

Kaito runs up to a door and kicks it open, running out to the studio lot. He'd think it were pretty cool to be on the set of a movie lot were it not for the fact that Kintaro was here, picking up cars and throwing them around.

"Hey! That's my car!" Johnny shouts as Kintaro leaps on a fancy red convertible, smashing it beneath his weight. "Oh, you are a dead shokan!"

Nearby, a large purple and green portal opens, deposting several Outworld warriors.

"The invasion! It's happening!" Kaito shouts at Johnny.

"And they're starting with Hollywood, those Outworld BASTARDS!" Johnny replies, taking out his sunglasses and putting them on. "They're attacking America's most treasured pastime!"

"...Sure, Johnny, let's go with that," Kaito says.

Kaito has been looking forward to hanging out with Johnny ever since he started adventuring; he's not about to let Kintaro ruin it! He runs at the furry shokan and attempts to kick him, emulating Johnny's shadow kick. This does not work, however, and Kintaro turns around and looks at Kaito.

"So... How did you survive the fall from when Duroc threw you off, anyway? Wait, wait, don't actually answer that question. Apparently you shokan are immune to gravity, I forgot."

"But you aren't," Kintaro says, grabbing Kaito and throwing him against the wall.

Kaito slides down the wall as Kintaro picks up another car. Nearby, Johnny battles several tarkatans as people run out of the movie lot; some of them snapping pictures as they go.

Kaito blasts Kintaro with lightning, causing him to drop the car and fall under it. It likely won't pin him for very long, however.

Kaito gets up and looks in the sky overhead; portals are opening and dragons are flying through. "Dragons?" Kaito says, hardly believing his eyes. "Shao Kahn had those things this entire time?"

Johnny kicks a tarkatan into a camera truck before punching another into a pile of black cords. "You weren't kidding around! These guys are serious!" he says. "Is this happening everywhere?"

Kaito looks over at the car that Kintaro is beneath and sees him preparing to lift it off of him. He also sees a nearby van that is open and running.

Kaito blasts the car with lightning until it blows up. Knowing that probably didn't kill Kintaro, he runs to the van and drives up to Johnny. "Get in!" he shouts.

The actor delivers a roundhouse kick to an Outworld soldier before jumping into the shotgun seat. A large man runs out in a black suit and punches a tarkatan in the face. Johnny sticks his head out the window. "BO! BO, GET IN!"

"Who's that?" Kaito asks as the large man climbs into the back.

"My bodyguard, Bo."

"The hell is going on, Johnny?" Bo asks once he is inside.

Johnny thinks for a moment. "Aliens. From another dimension. Let's leave it at that."

Kaito drives off and crashes through the set gate and onto the street.

All around them, portals are opening and warriors from Outworld are pouring through. Shadows from overhead dragons can be seen flying down the streets.

"What do we do from here, exactly?" Johnny asks.

A portal opens up behind the van and several centaurs charge through and start chasing the van, throwing spears at it.

"I have no idea," Kaito admits.

Kaito hits the breaks and stops the van, throwing the gear into reverse. He backs up into the oncoming centeaurs, hitting at least two of them. One of them runs up to the side and punches through the window to try and grab him, but he puts it in drive again and goes forward. He drives off, leaving the centaur behind, but the Outworld monster grabs the car door and tears it off as they go.

Kaito now has nothing to his left as far as the van is concerned, but he lost the centaurs. Johnny meanwhile is on his smartphone. "I can't believe it!" Johnny says. "They say this is happening everywhere--New York, Japan, Russia, China, Wisconsin--Shao Kahn is really serious about this, isn't he?"

"Who?" Bo asks.

"The Emperor. Don't worry, you'll catch up," Johnny tells him.

"He's invading all of Earthrealm," Kaito says. "We need to link up with Raiden and all the rest of our allies if we're going to stop this."

"I'll try Sonya again." He dials her number as Kaito pulls into a parking garage. The call actually goes through. "Sonya! Hey! It's good to--Yeah, yeah, I know, it's everywhere, even here in Hollywood. Can you--Hello? Sonya? Sonya?"

He looks at his phone. "Damnit. I've got no signal!"

"Where the hell is Raiden?" Kaito wonders aloud. Outside, a dragon breathes fire as it flies down the street, burning all the trees and cars.

Kaito throws the car back into drive and pulls out of the garage. "Time to be big damn heroes, Johnny!"

As they pull out onto the street, they see a tormentor appear through a portal and start picking up cars and smashing them. Nearby, a small horde of tarkatans chases people into a mall. Further up the road in the direction they came from, a dragon lands atop a gas station and attacks a nearby Laundromat.

"There's got to be someone coordinating the attacks in this region," Johnny says. "Either that or his army is just going wild."

"Might be a bit of both," Kaito says. "But we need to help."

Kaito turns into the mall parking lot and drives up to the doors. "What are you doing?" Johnny asks.

"Making a big entrance!"

Kaito crashes through the doors of the mall, sending glass and metal everywhere and running down two tarkatans. Kaito unbuckles his seatbelt as the engine dies and Johnny does the same. Bo kicks out the back doors and the three of them look around.

The mall is in chaos, to say the least. Tarkatans roam wildly, attacking everyone they are able, while security tries to combat them. Their weapons are not very effective, however. Kaito watches as a security guard on the second floor tazes a tarkatan only to be stabbed from behind and thrown off the balcony.

"Tarkatans love a good fight! We keep it focused on us!" Kaito says. He wastes no time in charging up and begins to blast tarkatans with his lightning. Johnny and Bo run off to try to protect other people.

"I'll head to the food court!" he shouts at Johnny as he runs off. Bo picks up a tarkatan and throws him into a store window as Johnny shadowkicks another into the mall's fountain.

Kaito runs into the large, open area and finds the tarkatans running amok. The coffee place and the various fast-food outlets are being raided for food and drinks. One tarkatan picks up a jug of soda and dumps it on his head, licking and swallowing as much as he can. Another holds an arm blade up to a worker and demands how to make the "magic" hotdog machine work or else he will kill him. A woman screams as the popcorn stand is cut into and two of them chow down on the spilt popped kernels.

Kaito looks around, but doesn't see Tortek anywhere. He was sure that with the tarkatan's love of food he would be here. He must not be far...

Nearby, a stage is set up; seems like some kind of show was going on when the invasion started promoting mixed martial arts. Several of the MMA fighters are dead or have run off, but one of them is still up on stage and taking on the tarkatans.

Kaito squints as he suddenly recognizes her. That's Kathy Long! He fought her at the first Mortal Kombat tournament!

Kaito runs up to the stage, leaps upon it and kicks a tarkatan off and onto a table. Kathy roundhouses another off the stage before turning and seeing him.

"What are you doing? Get out of here! These things are monsters!"

"Well, mostly," Kaito says as he gets up. "I mean, I've made friends with at least one of them."

She blinks as she looks at him. "Hey... Don't I know you?"

"Yeah, from the tournament on the island. You were the first match I fought."

"That's right! But what the hell is going--LOOKOUT!"

Kaito turns around and blasts a charging tarkatan with lightning. Kathy is surprised. "Oh yeah, I've got lightning powers now. Sweet, right? Basically, monsters from another dimension are invading Earth because their leader is really, really pissed off at us."

"Well, what the hell did we do to him?"

"A lot, actually," Kaito says as he blasts two tarkatans tearing up a food stand. "I'm looking for the leader of these arm-blade things, they're called tarkatans. Have you seen one that looks like he's in charge?"

"I saw a big one with a ring through his nose," she says.

"Yes, yes! That's the one! Where did he go?!"

"I think he went over there," she points. Kaito follows her arm straight to McDonalds.

"Of course," Kaito says to himself. "Come with me!"

He charges across the foodcourt, blasting and attacking every tarkatan along the way that dares challenge him. Kathy follows along behind him, doing her best to keep out of reach of their arm blades.

Kaito runs up to the McDonalds but doesn't see Tortek anywhere; perhaps he is in the back?

Kaito thinks for a moment. He kicks open the door to the McDonalds. "MEAT! LOTS OF MEAT! GET YOUR MEAT, HERE! FRESHLY COOKED AND BASTED IN BLOOD! FREE FOR TARKATANS!"

Several of the tarkatans look over and prepare to move in, but upon hearing the cry of their leader, stand back. From within the McDonalds, with a burger in each hand and a mouthful of half-eaten fries emerges Tortek.

His eyes go wide when he sees Kaito. "K... Kaito?"

"Tortek, you look like a proper American," Kaito says. "I don't know if I should be proud or disappointed. Well, mostly disappointed. What the hell are you doing helping Shao Kahn?"

Tortek blinks. "Kitana say you dead. Kitana say to help Shao Kahn..."

He approaches the tarkatan leader and puts his hands on his shoulders. "That wasn't Kitana, buddy. It was Mileena, disguised as Kitana. Oh, Tortek..."

The tarkatans around them begin to move in. "Uh, guy?" Kathy says. "They're, uh, getting closer..."

Kaito looks Tortek in the eyes. "Can you stop this? Get the tarkatans to fight for us, not against us?"

"Tarkatans running wild, having fun, eating..." Tortek says. "Might be too late..."

Kaito talks to Tortek and convinces him to not attack any more humans. He can lead his people in raiding the mall all he pleases no more bloodshed. Tortek agrees, coming up with a plan of his own; he tells the tarkatans to focus instead on gathering spoils for Shao Kahn's treasuries and not to kill anyone.

Now that Tortek knows that Kaito is alive, he will stay with the tarkatans and try to minimize their damage. He trusts Kaito but can't simply stop the invasion on his end; the human understands, knowing that Tortek is in a bad position: if he shows too much weakness, his rule will be questioned and challengers may appear. He has fought them off before, but too much trouble is never a good thing.

The tarkatans go to work, raiding jewelry stores, fashion stores and the food court for spoils aplenty. Meanwhile, Kaito works with Johnny and Bo to get the people out of the mall or into a safe place.

As Johnny, Bo, Kathy and Kaito run out into the parking lot, a flash of light overhead causes them to stop. With a thundercrack, Raiden is in the parking lot, standing with Liu Kang, Kung Lao and Kitana.

"About time you showed up," Kaito says. "We've got a war going on!"

"Thank you for the update. Perhaps next you will tell me that the sun rises each day," Raiden replies. "Come on. We've got a lot to talk about."

Raiden teleports the group away. A moment later, they are atop a massive temple somewhere in China; it is night, and the wind is howling around them. It is raining.

Raiden leads them into a nearby large chamber. "This is my Sky Temple," he explains. "It is from here that we will coordinate our defense of Earth."

He takes out a chest and removes several golden amulets. "These can be used to contact me anywhere throughout Earthrealm."

Johnny takes one. "No cell phone, huh?"

"I'm sorry, but what's going on?" Kathy asks.

"It's all a bit strange, trust me I know, but what matters is that Earth is under attack and we'll need all the help we can get," Kaito tells her.

"Indeed," Raiden nods. "We still have other warriors to collect."

"Sign me up! I volunteer to get Sonya!" Johnny eagerly says.

Raiden finishes handing out the amulets. "I can detect the portals opening up all over Earthrealm. The attacks appear to be random; Shao Kahn is likely trying to spread as much chaos and confusion as possible. We need to rally our defenders and focus on stopping the invasion at its source."

"So, we go back to Outworld?" Kaito says.

"We cannot leave your realm undefended," Kitana tells him. "And if I know Shao Kahn, he will not stay in Outworld for long."

"He will bring the fight here," Raiden nods his agreement. "That is why we must try to keep the war contained. Once we have assembled everyone we are able, we need to focus on stopping the leaders of these war parties and disorganizing the invading force. When Shao Kahn shows weakness, we will press forward and take every chance we can to end the battle as soon as possible."

"So, who else do we need to pick up?" Kaito asks. He looks at Johnny. "Other than Sonya."

"I detect powerful warriors fighting for Earthrealm; warriors with fighting spirits far greater than the average man. I will send groups to these locations and you may contact me with the amulets."

"The Lin Kuei are currently in China, led by Sub-Zero," Liu says. "They are trying to contain the threat there."

Raiden speaks. "Our greatest advantage currently is that Shao Kahn's forces will be spread thin. We will be able to defeat small groups at a time."

"This is all too crazy..." Bo shakes his head.

"So, where to first, then?" Kaito asks.
