>You are a villager girl named Ellen from a small village in the nation of Neir, on the continent of Teege. As a member of the local militia/guard, you were trained in swordplay. Your fighting style is best compared to the mercenary class, though you're officially considered a knight of Neir.

>You were led directly into an ambush. The prince's party must continue on without you as you and your friends find some way to escape.

>The questmasters are Octoling (myself), and Grandflaw. There's no particular rhyme or reason to who posts when, and sometimes one of us might not appear all.

>Character Death is always a possibility (this is Fire Emblem after all), but your actions can very easily influence who lives and who dies.

>Voting periods will last an average of ten to fifteen minutes, but this may be increased, decreased, or generally changed at any given moment based on voter turnout.

"Ah, yes, thank you for letting me know."

Shit. Shit, shit, shit.

Prince Lars knows you're here, and is undoubtedly not going to be happy that you escaped. Quidel and Vaga haven't come back out of the confiscated items room yet, but you and Victoria both heard the horror of this situation.

Yancy just seems... puzzled by something, but doesn't vocalize whatever he's thinking about.

You agree to hide, but refuse to leave without those still inside the very place Lars is headed.

"We'll ambush him," you instruct Victoria and Yancy, both nodding, Victoria even staring at her ancestral bow, Ronan, somewhat nostalgically.

You manage to hide behind several bookshelves, not daring to look and see the newcomer until he's walked past.

His armor is exceptionally heavy and large, and the man himself is tall and slow-moving. His armor exudes a dark aura comparable to the tomes Yancy uses, only... significantly more menacing.

He approaches the shelf that secretly houses items taken, quickly reaching for the mechanism Vaga looked for earlier, the one which opened it. While it's still open, he looks about ready to shut it.

You're immediate on the draw, knowing that he must be trying to seal whoever's still in there inside. Sure, you could just reopen it afterwards, but who's to say he wouldn't immediately turn towards you afterwards?

Feeling like this needs to be decisive, you actually draw your Devil Sword for the first time, immediately throwing yourself at the former heir of Neir.

Your weapon bounces harmlessly off of his armor, and he simply turns to face you.

"So my hunch was right. Regardless, your weapon isn't going to break through this armor."

He addresses Victoria next, who is already readying Ronan to fire. "Don't you try it either, your grace. It won't work."

Yancy just sort of preemptively closes his own spellbook. Even if he wasn't being addressed, he's pretty certain he won't be able to do much either.

"H-hey, your, uh, sister, cousin, whatever, in Elza Oasis is a swindler! This couldn't even cut through armor! I even paid full-er, slightly discounted price for it!"

"I'm... pretty certain the armor is magical in nature, not really man-made," Yancy replies to your yelling at a door.

Lars draws closer, and before you have time to react, you swear his armor becomes... significantly less heavy-looking, and a gust of something or another knocks you into and down the stairs. You actually catch a glimpse of Victoria actually firing her bow upon seeing this, and something about Yancy crying out about having "known it was you!"

Bolse is still sitting where he was, Bovis still standing beside him, and fuck does it hurt to stand up.

You quickly manage, however, locating a torch on some wall near where you landed... This seems like something that calls for one hell of a diversion.

From upstairs, you hear Lars say "what do you mean 'knew it was me?'" He sounds pained (perhaps something Victoria did was able to succeed where you failed?)

Bovis is on you in a moment, grabbing your arm and stopping it at the last moment. "I would highly advise against this."

While the surprise was enough to stop you in the moment, you could probably overpower him and go through with this anyway.

"You're in a large underground complex without knowing how to get out and about to set highly flammable books on fire. It's unsafe for all parties."

Upstairs, the conversation continues, "wait, wait a moment... who here is Mimon?"

"He is."

"I am Lars, prince of Dain, grandson of Emperor-"

"Same thing. I believe I even mentioned earlier how likely it was that he wasn't on our side if he was still alive."

"In the same room as your cells were two paths that lead out of here. The one immediately parallel to the entrance to the library, the one which seems to head down further, will be a walk to the courtyard of Gravern Castle. The path to your left heading through will take you south, to Traban Outpost. The path North from the cell block will take you to the living areas of the guards and anyone else who is living and passes through."

"Mimon, I think we need to have a nice long talk."

Lars responds, "I'm... kind of in the middle of that right now!"

Quidel and Vaga have long since gotten dressed and exited the confiscated items room, and are now just sort of looking for someplace to butt into the conversation themselves.

Victoria adds, "and what reason have we to believe that? You've just proven that everything these people know about you is a lie."

"Yes, I know that! My grandfather has had many strange demands in recent times of myself and mother, but we really don't have much of a choice but to follow them ever since we came here."

Quidel adds spitefully, "are you about to say this grandfather of yours told you to curse the people of Tarvos Valley before you even could have met him?"

"No, no, that was me being a rebellious teenager hating his father for being... well, horrible, even in hindsight, mother's own purposes aside. We have our reasons for staying, though!"

"We don't care to hear your sob story," Quidel continues to respond, "just return Lady Katina to us and show us the way out before we fire another volley of arrows."

Yancy adds, "er, Quidel, I think Victoria's only worked because of Ronan's nature."

Well, I'm happy that this has all been but a misunderstanding, but my village has been ransacked by a man who lost his daughter which I can assume is all due to you. I lost two of my precious fingers to some necrodragons that your necro-boy summoned. Vaga here lost his mother, his honor to his people, and perhaps even caused another war between two old rival tribes. And most recently, this whole being sent to a dungeon against our will caused me to attempt an escape from said dungeon. And I will attempt to do my worst if I don't get out here, and so help me gods, I will literally bite your head off if it aides me in my escape from becoming the next Silia.

With a tangible layer of mock sweetness, you begin, "oh, this is all some misunderstanding? You have 'good reasons' for calling these shots, are just being pulled around? Wonderful," from here, your faux-kind demeanor starts to drop, "but I've heard enough to figure that you're at least the head of this operation, and I can only assume that this means you were responsible for kidnapping a man's daughter, turning HIM into a 'pawn' who was, from when I knew him, pure evil, KILLING her anyway... I lost one of my closest friends, my hometown, two of my fingers thanks to your underlings and their underlings. Vaga's lost his mother, and he's lost all of the love and respect and honor he had in the process, and now Quidel's people might have to reenter a full-on war with that entire tribe. You've had Victoria in these hellish conditions, let the likes of Captain Willow abuse her, even let someone like her out of PRISON for this express purpose... Most recently, intentions being... whatever the hell they were, you've captured myself and my friends here, thrown us into this place, and you're lucky we haven't been here too long... Now, magical armor or whatever be damned, if it stops you from doing to us what you did to Vale and whoever the other Deadlords are, I will tear your head off if you oppose us, and hope that whatever you and your mother are fighting for... fails miserably without you."

Even with his "only even impenetrable by very special weapons when in a specific state" armor covering his features, Lars actually flinches a bit.

>character limit, continued in next update post
>>
>>41924054
In the back, you hear Yancy still trying to rattle on about the nature of ancestral weapons to himself, before perking up with an, "oh, er... Nice speech."

"If... entirely unnecessary. Considering your reputation, I'd just figured that my grandfather would find it entirely believable that you'd managed to fight your way out with the mage general's daughter in tow. The, er, VIP quarters' key should be there in that ring you pilfered. Ask Bovis for directions, he's bad at understanding the "ONLY" part of "listen to my master."

"Does that mean you're just... letting us get through without trouble?"

"Did you not just hear what I said sounded believable? Fighting your ways out. Have Bolse use his witch's pendant as soon as you find yourselves outside, since the thing doesn't let you teleport underground."

He actually... turns away and starts downstairs.

Someone asks, "er, Ellen, weren't you just saying we should get-"

"Tell me, Bolse. We're all dying to know what you were about to tell us, why you needed time before you could bail us out."

Thinking for a moment, pausing to gather his voice (even before he'd lost his hearing, he was clearly not the most vocal of people), he says, "We were... waiting until the warden had to get back to jail... next time one of her sons visited. Whenever she's here, guards are... more vigilant, out of fear, and... And..." He sighs, giving up on speaking again and returning to the familiarity of his hands.

Bovis translates, "and are generally much more on edge, since people are expected to just look the other way if she should harm their fellow guards for any reason. So on top of a very powerful enemy, the guards who are usually working here would likely be much more dangerous out of self-interest, and we would be punished much more 'thoroughly,' as she and her elder son say, for being caught."

Well, in short, the Emperor is using his own younger grandchildren as collateral to keep his children and older grandkids in line. "...and THAT'S what they took from us?" Quidel asks, adding, "I'd never even been told we'd held something like that... Just that some vital item of ours was stolen during the war with Dain, and have noticed ever since that any amount of necromancy has... affected people born in Tarvos Valley."

And after another round of translation across visual and aural mediums, "Lars says that Emperor Elias and his mother figured that, as such close allies of Neir's rulers, it would be wise for the Tarvosians to be cursed so the very people who could summon and command Deadlords and other necromancy-related beings would weaken them. You get going after insisting that Bolse not dare create more Deadlords, especially not out of people you know and love.

As you head down the stairs, Bolse and Bovis now in tow, Victoria asks Bovis if he knows what happened to "Lord Phineas."

"I was only created around a month ago, so I do not know the details, but I believe he was turned into the Deadlord Equus after a lengthy period of being believed to have simply been killed."

"I... see." She sounds upset, but less so than she might have been had she not already seen his lance in the confiscated items room, reasoned this herself, only needing to hear it confirmed.

As you return to the cell block, you head into the North exit, finding what appears to be some sort of hub for guards, several doors leading into several other rooms (mostly quarters, you figure), one in particular looking unusually nice (and more tightly-locked).

Well, we gotta make this look like we're getting out by force. So, Bolse, go have a moment with your sister, and now that we know what's going on, tell Mimon that we won't tell the rest about his identity, so he could still be his alter ego on the outside. Also, it may give you and your sister another opportunity to meet together. After the farewells, we gotta do this by force.
>>
>>41926273
Really anon? It already looks like we gout out by force! Also not telling people about Mimon will bite us in the fucking ass and you know it.
>>
>>41926126
"I don't like this... You say, checking every door BEFORE the one that obviously contains Katina. All empty, several of which featuring living arrangements for far more than the five or six humans you've seen in this place, "isn't this too quiet?"

"Absolutely," Vaga replies, "and I'm certain the prince didn't just ask everyone to quietly leave. Regardless, the sooner we get to Katina, the sooner we can all start to leave."

You nod, finally unlocking the locked door and entering cautiously...

You see Katina, scarfing away at some sort of sweet and lounging around, books for entertainment and spell-slinging purposes strewn about the surprisingly comfortably-decorated room. Bunk beds are present, as are several assorted pieces of magical paraphernalia.

Almost boredly, she asks "oh, are we already being let out?"

>A. Yes (you aren't sure you have time to explain shit)
>B. Ask her something (specify)
>C. Write-in action

DOUBLE DOWN

While you're glad that, true to Lars' word, Katina hasn't been harmed, and seems to have even been kept in comfort during her stay in Aum, it's still... very frustrating for her to be so casual after all that you just went through. Regardless, now is not the time to blow your lid, nor is she the right person to do so to.

You simply say yes, twitching slightly.

"Alright, then! Since Lars has protected me so earnestly, even when we were enemies, I won't disappoint him by getting caught again! He's delivered me right to you, just as he was hired to as Mimon, Bolse!"

Bovis signs that last statement to Bolse in the other room, to which he vocally responds, "that is a... way of looking at it."

She turns to you again, asking, "how are the curse rings holding up?"

Now it's Quidel's turn to answer, saying, "those are the... these things, right?" He lifts up his hand and points out the indigo ring.

"Yep! I helped Bolse finish enchanting them earlier!"

Heartwarming reunion aside, Katina quickly gathers her things, and soon your lot finds themselves back in the cell block.

You still have the keys, so everyone looks to you: which way should you leave?

>A. The South exit. It's a longer way to Traban Outpost, but you're not going to literally pop up in the courtyard of Dain's castle, and it's closer to the border if something goes wrong with the Witch Pendant.
>B. The West exit. It's a shorter trip to Gravern, and where you pop up doesn't matter at all when you're one moment away from being warped to Elza Oasis. You want to get out of here quickly.

I know something unexpected is going to happen. But which fuck up do we want?

I changed my mind. Let's go with this one. So, ignore this vote please.>>41926703

You opt to take the South exit Bovis mentioned, figuring for a number of reasons that it's the better route. You don't feel the need to vocalize these, however, as the others simply follow your example as you explain you already discussed ways out with Bovis.

The path is... darker than you think it ought to be, but Katina is able to light several unlit torches from the walls and hand them out for the group.

For awhile, Vaga was leading the group, relying upon his heightened wolf senses to direct the group through the dark, southbound tunnel. At a split in the path, he stops.

"Someone's coming. Many someones, even."

"Where from? Forward, left?" Quidel raises his bow, Victoria quickly following suit. Yancy, Katina, and Bolse pop open the spellbooks.

Yancy asks, "behind?"

"All."

from the dark, someone's left hand pulls out and yanks a pendant from around Bolse's neck as he stands to close to one of the ends. It goes flying behind the assailant as Bovis quickly cuts their hand off, before quickly cutting down the rest of them.

When you wave a torch in that particular direction, Simon is seen picking up the pendant in question... and immediately smashing it against the wall with all his might and chucking it aside.

"So Prince Lars wants to have us die so your escape is more realistic... Like hell any of us are taking that from scum like you! Our prince is shit, our warden was shit, but you, you're all the worst of the bunch! We'll kill your lot, leave you to die in a dark, terrible place like you deserve!"

Now you hear people closing in.

>To be continued next thread

Thanks for playing, guys. Figured I'd make sure the next Ellen chapter was completely ready for action since this one was surprisingly tame for "literally cornered by the big bad." Next part is knights again, though.

As always, you can follow us on twitter for updates @qmgrandflocto or ask shit at http://ask.fm/qmgrandflocto

I'll be here all night to talk and shit as usual

Thank you for running! I'm now going to sleep.
>>
>>41926997
And this is why i said we shouldn't have let him live!
>>
>>41927039
In all fairness, this is entirely Ellen's fault.
>>
>>41927062
Well i guess Ellen is going to have to fix it the normal way she fixes annoying problems them huh?
>>
>>41927109
This is going to be a "hold out for X amount of time/turns" chapter, so Simon COULD survive. Then you'll have indiscriminately killed even more of his coworkers in front of him after taking on his best friends and given him an exit from the plot that allows him to come back stronger and with knowledge that could even damn the good intentions of Lars.
>>
>>41927150
>so Simon COULD survive
Not if we kill him first.
>>
>>41927252
Now you're thinking like Ellen.
>>
>>41927150
Also i really fucking hate the anon who voted to let him live now, Seriously fuck him.
>>
>>41927266
It was a noble gesture and the morally correct thing to do, but that didn't make it a pragmatic decision.

Simon was actually listening in on everything that happened in the library from outside. If he wasn't there, it would just be a more standard "fight some guys here" situation because no one would have alerted their fellow guard that they were about to die.
>>
>>41927302
>It was a noble gesture and the morally correct thing to do, but that didn't make it a pragmatic decision.
Exactly, It was very OOC for Ellen, And it really doesn't fit.
>>
>>41927312
man remember when we were all arguing about who she should fuck instead of 'would ellen cut down this guard in cold blood after his friends just in case he tries some shit later'
>>
>>41927380
I didn't participate in that useless argument, It was stupid, also Ellen has never really ever done the moral choice, Just the one that gets the job done and leaves her friends out of the way of fire, Therefore her leaving someone alive who will definitely have a grudge against you and will come back later is VERY OOC for her.
>>
>>41927417
It felt like a gray area to me. Something that she either would or wouldn't do depending on the context. Perhaps she underestimated just how much Simon wants to be put out of his misery. He literally depended on Mina and Walter for support and personal validation.

If he survives he might get a new lease on life, but he's still even less likely to forgive Ellen than Ellen is Stefyn. Stefyn didn't make Ellen watch it happen.
>>
>>41927495
It really wasn't a grey area though, Ellen probably knew he'd come back for her later, And that might have put her friends in danger also, So why would she want to keep him alive? It wouldn't make sense for Ellen to want to keep him alive based on her past actions and personality.
>>
>>41927525
Perhaps, but if there is one plus in all of this, you saw how Quidel reacted to what she DID do. At the very least he's not as thoroughly disgusted with Ellen as he would have been otherwise. He got over her killing Walter because he was armed and attacking her, but Simon was already disarmed.

About all that can be done to keep on trucking, just like when she nixed any chances of him, Mina, and Walter joining in the first place.
>>
>>41927674
Still it's the fact that it was OOC and you allowed it to happen, Can you watch out for those next time please and not allow those OOC votes? Also something happening would be nice to fix the mistake, Wink Wink Nudge Nudge, Also just because Quidel doesn't dislike Ellen more doesn't make up for the fact that it was an OOC action and you allowed it to happen.
>>
>>41927721
While I like the generally in-character flow the thread has, this is still a quest, which means that sometimes poor and/or out-of-character decisions will win votes from time to time.
>>
>>41927801
That is a bad diea, So you're basically saying if enough votes won on say a vote that said
>Kill and rape all our friends!
Or say
>Oh let's befriend all our enemies with hugs and rainbows!
You would do it? You see why acting IC is important? If people can't vote IC they shouldn't vote at all.
>>
>>41927836
That being said, if something RIDICULOUS comes up, in terms of stupidity or in terms of breaking character (not gonna fly with Ellen randomly cutting Garrus' head off and pissing in it because someone wrote it in, for example), I will be willing to exercise veto power, or at the very least stall for time with a post strongly suggesting that this is a poor decision without outright saying it (I was prepared to let the library burn if you guys pushed for it after Bovis grabbed Ellen)

I can't be too tight on the leash, but there are obvious limits
>>
>>41927870
So you're going to let trolls make Ellen act OOC if they aren't too big about it? Okay great to know!
Seriously Octo, Don't let players act OOC or else bad shit will happen and Ellen will just end up as a random fucking character, And trust me those are never fun to play as.
>>
>>41927917
What I'm trying to say is that I'll make judgement calls when I feel they're needed. At the very least, I try to frame/write suggestions in an in-character light whenever they come up.
>>
>>41927957
But the thing is you didn't ,It was completely OOC for Ellen to want to let Simon live, And now you've fucked us over on it, Because instead of a normal fight it's fighting every single guard trying to survive some countdown only you know.
>>
>>41927978
It would've been every single guard by the end anyway, just in a different few settings. They just would've been in a more cramped environment, like the raid on the Johalva.

At least this way, you're closer to where help will eventually arrive from.
>>
>>41928008
Doesn't change the fact you fucked us over on this now does it? Because of an OOC decision, Why is it so hard for you to understand that OOC leads to bad things and will eventually fuck this quest over? At least make sure the votes are IC for gods sake Octo, i'm trying to help, I like the quest and don't want it to be fucked because of OOC shit happening 24/7.
>>
>>41928030
I understand what you're saying and appreciate the criticism, and am just trying to say "I'll make sure it's not a massive issue, but sometimes shit slips through the cracks by seeming like a reasonable choice" in a way that addresses the points laid out by each reply.
>>
>>41928077
Okay just please keep a very close eye on the votes next time please, I really would rather not get fucked over by an OOC decision again.
>>
>>41928077
Also i hope there is an option for defeating all the enemies before reinforcements get here or the rescue or whatever, Otherwise it seems kind of forced and yeah.
