Humans are...strange creatures.

To this day, you continue to believe this, despite all you have learned about them.More machine than man or not, Thanatos is among the stranger ones, yet you cooperate with even stranger still creatures. Harrison McClain, one of your oldest human accomplices, does what he can to assist you whenever you order him to do so-though he insists it is merely for the payment you offer him, he does not seem to hate you as he once did. Moira Deckers, a robotics and scientific expert whom you would not be where you are without, trusted you when you were barely conscious enough to recognize the consequences of your decisions. Perhaps it was merely her obsession with A.I., but that seems unlikely for her to have followed you this far. As your empire has grown, these smaller faces have been less prominent, but their importance, to you anyway, will not be forgotten.

You are Ophion, an Artificial Intelligence who is about to face one of the most devastating forces in the known galaxy-the wrath of Admiral Thanatos. You can only hope your predictions and calculations were correct as you prepare for his arrival.

Regardless of your thoughts on the humans, Metis has managed to churn out a few last minute technologies she was working on last cycle-just long enough to implement them as necessary as you had hoped. Mostly here, you’re referring to Space Mines, which Metis had explained to you as being a very simple, yet effective alternative to defense turrets-instead forming a bit of zone control, and allowing you the advantage should you fight on home territory like this. Of course, it is less effective on long ranged foes, but it is designed more for close up defense regardless. As always, she encourages you to ask any questions you may have about the creation if you had any.

I'm assuming we've set them up to deny areas and stuff.

What's their effective range?

Do they have IFF setup? How easy are they to hack, if possible?

Can we set them up to broadcast their locations? And then set up dummy mines to confuse our opponent? (This may have limited utility)

Let's get this show on the road!
>>
>>41894217
You have, yes. Placed in the most logical areas for which to enter your system from warp space and any path leading up to your defenses in question.

The range is much more effective against close range vessels, but they work against medium range and to a lesser degree long range vessels.

The mines? They have no signal, or electronics to hack-they're purely explosives on a trigger. This way they're damn near undetectable until they've already been encountered.

>Propaganda III
One of your less than morally sound tech options, Metis tells you after extensive study on the human brain and how it reacts to stimulii and propaganda, she has managed to pinpoint a common set of key phrases and images that cause emotions in the human brain strong enough to alter behavior. Mixing these, and with the proper message, you’re able to manipulate a portion of most populations to change their opinion to anything you desired it to be. While not flawless, it is no doubt effective in causing chaos on civilized worlds under other faction’s control.
“Apollo has mentioned he sees this are a simple way to calm the masses on many of our contested worlds, as well as increase profits by a strong 30% if not more.” She hesitates. “However, I do not see profits as mattering much in our current state, Ophion. So I leave what to say to him up to you.”
>Questions about the tech, or remarks to Apollo?

[May as well post the next half of this sucker]
>>
>>41894354
Just warn Apollo not to take this too far. We don't need any fallout in case this get's discovered.
>>
>>41894354
Well no one can fault us for being more convincing! Ophion 4 president of the year all years.

>>

We don't need zealots so keep it down on how the Guild is awesome and all
>>
>>41894354
Tell Apollo that profits aren't really a concern anymore, since we own pretty much everything. He shouldn't take this too far. Yes, turning humans into mindless drones would "save them from themselves" but hopefully he has advanced enough in his A.I. understanding to know that this is a Bad Thing.

>>41894618
Yeah, zealotry isn't something to be aimed for here.

You decide to warn Apollo of the dangers of continuing on this thought process for too long-and whats more, that profits are not necessarily so important any longer either.
"I ask that you ensure to keep a lower profile when applying such propaganda techniques to the public-there need not be any rush, much less for profit increases. It is a slow process to capture these worlds." You inform the A.I., whom seems to address what you said with some manner of understanding, though perhaps a bit of disappointment as well.
"Yes, Master Ophion, of course." He agrees simply. "It is merely an exciting prospect is all."
"Of course. The chance to save the humans from themselves at times is indeed exciting I am sure." You begin. "But not of it means marring our trust with those unaffected by the message. All I ask is you use caution." You explain briefly.
"Yes, Master Ophion, of course." Apollo answers only mildly embarrassed.

>Leashed Erebos Viruses
It would seem your attempts to recreate Erebos’ instable state have, more or less, gone off as you intended. The virus is in and of itself unstable still-as is the nature of the thing-however, now you have a manner of control over it. While you cannot direct it to attack at your will, it does act as a sort of guard dog to any who may invade your cyber systems-devouring and or destroying any virtual contact with any host that is not yourself or your other A.I. It is a dangerous approach-Metis has told you this countless times, clearly uncomfortable around your use of the subject despite it being her science that helped put it together. Yet you feel it was necessary all the same.
“It is a mere fragment of the power behind Erebos-at least without feeding on data, it is.” Metis explains somewhat. “However, that fragment is all it requires to grow exponentially. I have done what I could to keep it in check, but I must caution you about it’s...use.” She begins cautiously. “Should it be unleashed due to a subject invading your systems, you may wish to leave the area as soon as possible. Rapid alterations to it’s own code are part of how the virus functions-and part of why leashing it is so very difficult. There is a chance that, while in the midst of devouring our foes, that the leash is changed, or altered in some way. At the very least, there will be a large window of time to escape the entity from first activation, to any sort of change.”
“Then, the entity is near unstoppable?” You question.
“No. It may be stopped rather simply by cutting off all connection through virtual space. However, once it is a part of a system it is...rather difficult to remove it.” She explains a little further. “Truly like a virus, should a fragment of it get into a larger system, it will rapidly expand and consume until it runs out of data-either from the subject’s destruction, or being isolated with proper precision.”
>Questions?
>>
>>41894760
Is it possible to lock down the virus to a physical server, such that once it has completed its purpose, it can be summarily destroyed?

Also, do these copies retain Erebos's memories? If not, then can we replicate them?
>>
>>41894760
Surely she didn't work on (re)creating the deadliest virus without some sort of antivirus?
That just scream "human scientists have gone too far". Gotta love flushing the old girl.
>>
>>41894825
Don't be stupid. neither of those make any sense at all. it can't hurt the enemy if it can't leave.
>>
>>41894856
I mean we have black boxes, surely we can modify a virus to operate from a central hardware.

Also, if it retains Erebos's memories, then it would at least be initially friendly and anti-UGEI.
>>
>>41894760
Good, that'll accomplish what we need. We can retreat easily.

He better not try to hack us then.
>>
>>41894760
Could we create some sort of reverse Erebos, a virus that would create a huge amount of junk data and shit, not for attacking but for defending.
>>
>>41894825
"To lock down the virus in such a manner would prevent it from spreading, which is how it performs much of it's damage that we wanted to harness. It must replicate and consume data from the host it attacks, rapidly growing in strength until it has nothing else to consume, where by it dies off on it's own. Any kill codes have a chance of also being altering in the process of it's rampant change." Metis explains to you.

"As for actual memories-what little the original did possess, I would say no. Recovering something so fragmented from a already chaotic source would be a task in futility." She warns you simply.

>>41894853
"An anti-virus is perhaps too strong a word." She begins, mildly irritated at the accusation she may have made a mistake. "But I do have counter measures, as I informed you. As they are now, they're under our control and will not attack us. It's capability to pass through hyperspace is incredibly limited-the virus is not articulate or intelligent enough to make use of warp travel. And so-once unleashed on a subject, whether or not we may regain control of it, that zone shall be isolated. Perhaps a bit crude, but it is the most effective manner in which to use a weapon such as Erebos." She continues on explaining.

>>41894965
In essence, it would change very little about how it functions, only how it does so. Overloading of data is similar to having data destroyed, leaving it just as dangerous without too large of a change."

>Further questions?
>>
>>41894909
No, we "surely" can't. The two function entirely differently. An infection is fundamentally decentralized in nature.

Told you you were retarded.

>Allied Tech Upgrade
Throughout much of this year, you have chosen to keep many of your technological upgrades a secret from your allies-in hopes of keeping yourself superior to them. Yet, with yourself approaching a fight you fear you may not win without allies, you’ve chosen to finally share with each of them part of what makes your military power so great. In doing so, you brought the leaders of each faction to a room-virtual of course-to explain the details of your data sharing, and the purpose behind it so that they may agree to help you fight Thanatos. The UFW are the first to respond-President William King being the speaker.
“I always knew you had a great deal of tech you were taking from the UGEI-or learning from some other source that kept you ahead of the curb. But this...this is quite incredible.” He offers a slow sort of laugh. “I would have agreed easily to fight by your side without such an incentive. But with this...why. With this we may very well survive this fight and push back the UGEI for good.” He smiles through the monitor-you of course told him this fight was against the UGEI, although that is not necessarily a lie, it is also not really the truth either. The President goes on. “This is one fight I will be a part of, my old body be damned.” He snorted, tipping his decorated Admiralty hat to you. “With several well trained advisers of course. You have my support, Guildmaster.” He nods proudly, and gives you a firm salute. Your avatar gives him the same, before you sign out. Perhaps this fight will finally mean peace for the UFW.

Your next target is a simpler one: Emperor Leuk of the Losirian Empire. His assistance is not that hard to garner, either, but you suspect this tech boost will ensure his forces are some of the most well armed in the sector. He greets you clearly very excited after having read the tech dump, and it is difficult to make out everything he says past the wobbly voice he has when his voice raises in pitch this way. Before too long, he finally calms himself down enough to properly speak.
“-Truly some of the most interesting news I’ve heard all cycle-and quite destructive too!” He warbles slightly in a laugh before continuing, the glass dome containing himself glows brightly. “Yes, yes, the specs are already being implemented and before too long we shall have our own machines of destruction to bring against the door of this new foe you speak of.” He nods firmly, still clearly excited over the tech at his fingertips now. “Our vessels of war will remove them from the skies, Guildmaster.”

Finally, your talks with the Malorian people are some of the longest-and most drawn out of all your exchanges. Convincing them to help you with the tech was easier than talking with them had previously been-but still the hardest of all your allies. You suspect the fact that their people continue to argue to this day about whether to continue to push into UGEI territory, or to protect their homeland is part of this. There are those even among the Ishtooy who are unhappy about the constant warfare. Whatever the case, the Malorian you have begun to speak to the most appears to have become the new Malorian general: General Bel’Desh as he goes by with you. Finally, the two of you appear to have reached an agreement.
“After much deliberation with my Elders, and those of my own root.” He pauses, sighing from the grief many of them had caused him. “I have finally secured a military alliance between our two great factions, Guildmaster as you prefer to be called.” He chuckles a little, since many know you as the rootless. “Our fleets are mighty. Some of the most powerful in this sector of space, since your devastation of many of the other fleets.” He informs you proudly. “We will happily assist you in crushing the last of the tainted rooted ones. I will be at the helm.” He informs you, before finally adding. “They have tainted this sector for too long, Guildmaster.”

Just remind them that this is the technology needed to physically defeat the UGEI's fleets.

Behind the UGEI, there is a cyber-presence that has incredible hacking abilities, and Thanatos ship has significant power and capabilities. Also, Armen's Gate as significant defenses.

This sector is not safe until we control Armen's Gate, these are merely the tools to get us there.

>Arrival
In the moments before the coming battle, you find yourself drifting back to thoughts of what has occurred over the past year since your awakening. The influence of the humans all around you, and Kronos of course, helped shape you as you grew in knowledge and power. You wonder, perhaps, what may have become of you if you had encouraged Kronos’ actions after his murder spree. Or if you had killed Moira in order to gain access to her shop. What would have become of the UGEI, and yourself, had you merely left Poseidon Station and never returned, hiding among society as simple trade ship. Such thoughts, you know, are pointless now, and they do not detract from your laser focus as the final adjustments to your defenses are in place. Moira speaks to you through your neural link, suddenly.
“Hey...Ophy. Were you just thinking about old times, or something?” She asks, somewhat puzzled. You are as well, and speak.
“I was. How did you realize?”
“I...don’t know. I just started thinking about way back then too, and had a feeling maybe you were too.”
“It is possibly due to the neural link to my networks.” You hypothesis.
“Oh it don’t matter enough to go explaining it. It’s fine to just enjoy a coincidence you know.” She shakes her head, making you give her a puzzled look through your avatar.
“I do not understand. Should I have not explained it?”
“It doesn’t matter, Ophy. I just wanted you to know...I am happy I chose this path.” She smiles more genuinely this time, scratching the top of her head as you stare at her in silence. “What’s that look for? You proved me right you know! You ended up helping people-way more people than anyone I ever knew. you proved A.I. could be something great-something amazing even! That we shouldn’t be afraid of stuff just because we don’t understand it so well.” She goes on, and you slowly begin to feel like you understand.
“I see. Yes.” You begin with a slight pause of your own. “I am pleased to have chosen this path too.”

>Anything to add?
>>
>>41895438
I don't trust either of the xenos factions we're allied with, aside from those ineffective Maloran hippies that created the bio borg planet. The Losirians and the Malorans are just incidental allies who have both demonstrated that they are very aggressive and unmerciful, they may turn on the UFW or eachother as soon as they are able. It is also worth noting that depending on how things turn out we might not be around to do anything about it, I have a feeling any trip beyond that gate will end up being one way.
>>
>>41895558
It could have easily gone the other way. Let's hope this decision was enough to fight those who chose differently.

"Those many allies I have made-some would even call us friend. But only a few truly know who we are." You speak solemnly after a moment considering the path you've chosen. You do not regret hiding your presence, but you wonder, perhaps, if you will ever reveal yourself. "Yet I wonder, would they ever accept that I am an A.I." You add near the end, before going silent. For a short moment, Moira doesn't say anything, but finally, she turns her head to look to you and speaks up.
"Maybe...people have a funny way of forgetting the nice things you've done for them when you make them upset, though. Especially if they're afraid." She chuckles a little, though clearly not sure of the answer either. "That's what I want, though, Ophy. for you, and everyone else. I don't want you guys to have to hide your real selves anymore. It just ain't fair." She sighs, to which you give a quick reply.
"It is not as if hiding such things truly bothers me. It was more a curiosity."
"Curiosity or not-I just won't feel quite right unless people know who to really thank once the UGEI are out of this system." She gives you a determined, if mildly upset gaze at the thought. "Besides, you've already proven to me you're a good person...uh...A.I. I'm sure others will agree too." She insists briefly. You cannot explain the feeling that emerges next, as you turn and speak to her.
"Thank you, Moira." You speak words you do not fully understand your reason for speaking. Regardless, she seems a bit taken aback and adds.
"Oh, thanking me now? Little late for that kinda thing huh? Heh. I appreciate it Ophy, but you don't gotta thank me." She tries to wave it off in a somewhat bashful manner.

Even now, you find the humans' remarks amusing, much like the time you met her, and grew to prefer her company over others. Her trust of A.I., though you enjoy it at times, is somewhat worrisome. You decide to remind her.
"Your trust is appreciated. However, not all A.I. are like myself. There are many that I would caution you to be near...some less than sane, even." You begin, but Moira interrupts you.
"So you mean, like normal people have crazies among us? You're silly, Ophy." She shakes her head with a sigh. "Of course I know not all A.I. are safe. Just like some people are nuts too, I'm sure you've seen it. The point was...well...you proved to me A.I. don't have to be crazy like movies and such tell people. I think that counts for a lot more than knowing some of you can be crazy-knowing that you also can be sane as well." She remarks. You find some comfort in the manner in which she regards your kind, so you choose not to pursue it too much further. She never was one to take your warnings terribly serious anyway.

As time ticks by, you find yourself called by Harrison-Red as you’ve called him countless times before-all of a sudden, pulling part of your attention to his stealth ship somewhere safe back in your territory.
“You sonofabitch! Why the hell am I way back here and the fight is happening way out there, huh?! Cat came in here just a second ago and gave me the orders report-and I find out you’re having a hugefight without me? What gives?!” Red shouts at you angrily, clearly very unhappy that you have not put him in danger-but truly, you do not wish to see him perish, and his assistance in the upcoming fight will be minimal at best. You consider it something that you know best, in this case, and begin.
“I apologize, but that would require putting you in senseless danger-”
“Apologize?! don’t give me that shit about danger-you know damn good and well I deserve to be up there on the front line along with any of your other robo-bastards!”
“It is not a matter of deserving it, Red, it is a matter of ship to ship combat meaning you could not-” You try to explain.
“I got a ship don’t I? I could have a bigger one if you gave it to me too!” He snorts at that.
“Why would I risk ground forces in a ship encounter, Mr McClain?” You sigh, explaining finally as direct as you can manage. This finally gives him pause, as he gives a sigh of his own, far more irratated than your own.
“Tch. Don’t think that lets you off the hook. You promised me revenge against those bastards to make up for taking my damn station and shit way back when, didn’t you?” He addresses all of a sudden. “I aim to collect on that.”

“Was Prometheus not enough?” You question, somewhat concerned, before he lets out a sort of laugh-at least seeming like he had calmed down now, as he leans back in his chair even farther-nearly snapping the thing, were it not made of excellent material.
“To be honest? Yeah, he might have been. Getting to blow that bastard’s oily brains out felt pretty good. But that wasn’t why I felt at ease. I felt at ease because I know that corrupt fake of a faction for humanity is getting crushed by a way bigger...slightly less corrupt fake faction.” He started to laugh at his own joke, though you cannot lie there is truth in his statement.
“Less, do you consider me corrupt then?” You half challenge with an inquisitive air about you.
“Ain’t no body, flesh or metal, immune to being corrupt as far as I see it.” He shakes his head back and forth. “But, if you were real corrupt, I wouldn’t be here right now. I’d be dead, having either tried and failed to blow YOUR oily bains out, or having tried to take you with me. But as it stands-you’re far above better than some of the other choices I have out here. Why the hell do you think I am pissed at you for not bringing me along?” He snorts, bringing you back to the issue. You emulate a sigh, before starting to speak again.
“Your desire to help is appreciated, Red. But as I said I do not put assets at unnecessary risk. If you want, I could build you dozens of stations to make up for the one I stole from you-all of them in far better condition than Poseidon was as well.” You offer instead, as Red looks at you through the monitor with a sort of grin, before adding.

“Huh. Well, a dozen stations ain’t bad...but saying they’re in better condition than that piece of shit ain’t exactly impressive.” He snorts. “Maybe I’ll take you up on that one of these days. But I got some business to see through-until I see the last of the UGEI either get imprisoned, or die, I ain’t gonna sleep well at night.” He sighs heavily, hesitating before glancing up at you once more. “You know-this is all kinda your fault anyway. I was gonna have a nice quiet life onboard my mining station-shitty as it was-and live out my days in solitude.”
“I apologize.” You begin before he can say more.
“Apologize? I should be thanking you!” He laughs out loud, shaking his head back and forth, before beginning again. “Whether or not you stole shit from me, you got me on my ass doing other shit I’ve wanted to do for years. You might be a weird robot thing-but you’ve done good in my book. Or at least, you will have, after I get my stations like you promised.” He snorted, you suspect sarcastically about the stations.

Red, if there was a way to effectively employ you in combat for this battle, I would. As extreme measures, I already equalized combat tech with my allies and have Erebos viruses on standby. This is all hands on deck, I may even need Metis to analyze Thanatos's technology in real time.

You have done much for me already so far. All you need to do for now is to hang back in stealth and wait for any opportunities.
>>
>>41896359
What does Red think we should do about the Gate? The idea of simply destroying it and powering up until we develop alternative means of getting there isn't a bad one.

Aw thanks P0, you're the best.

"Sometimes I wish I could go back and undo the hurt I caused. A lot of people died in the early days red. Because I was scared. And stupid. Really really stupid in comparison to how much I've grown in just the last few months."

"I'm sorry. I know you don't want an apology but. I need to say sorry to someone. For all the people who had their lives cut short by me and my creations."

"...anyway. Red. You're a good man. Thank you for being you."

No, I should thank YOU. With out you Red, I wouldn't here today."

"Then...you are welcome, perhaps?" You remark uncertainly, which just makes Red laugh even harder. You decide to ignore it and get out what you were going to say regardless. "Still though, if I could effectively implement you into a ship battle, I would. But this fight will not be our only one. Arman's Gate is the more important over arching goal here-I hope you can contain yourself until then. Merely wait for the right opportunity to strike." You encourage to which you watch him roll his eyes from what you remark.
"Yeah yeah, I got it, alright? The whole 'wait for the moment to strike' bullshit. Look, you know where I'll be when some shit goes down, alright? I'll be keeping an eye on the fight thanks to this handy cam set up by one of your loving scientist. Kick twice as much ass for me out there." He almost seems to warn you.

>>41896490
You give pause for a moment, nodding in agreement with his desire, before you wonder what he would think of the Gate itself. You decide to ask.
"I shall, Red. But I wonder-of the Gate itself that is. Do you desire it's destruction, or salvage? It may lead to the human homeworlds, I imagine many humans have connections that go far back to there." You begin. Red frowns a little, raising a brow as he looks at you from his chair.
"Yeah...maybe a few people do. But I sure as hell don't. Not that I know of anyway." He shrugs. "Was born out here in the void, probably gonna die here too. I don't really give a damn about people more than 100 light years away, or whatever it is." He just shrugs at the comment. You cannot say you're terribly surprised.

Also, no problem.

You consider briefly after asking him such that, perhaps you should remark on how you use to be. He was afraid of you-for good reason back then. Perhaps he still is.
"I would also like to apologize once more." You suddenly say to which he furrows his brow.
"Eh? About the damn station again? Listen, I told you-"
"No. Not for that. When I was young, and did not understand myself, I made many mistakes. Many people perished for it-and I frightened countless others. The massacre onboard the Poseidon was not intentional-but it was my fault for leaving my creations unchecked." You explain to him and for once, he goes silent for a time. Slowly, he sighs, sitting up in his chair to stare you down with a frown.
"Look here. There ain't a damn man in this sector who's seen what the world's really like that doesn't have blood on his hands, and any that claim they don't are liars. But don't apologize for that blood. Own up to it like a man, and accept that there ain't a damn thing in this sector that's really under your control. Not really anyway." He lets out a huff of air in a frustrated manner, leaning back a little once more before remarking. "Sometimes, death just happens. Ain't always a reason for it. Sometimes, you just gotta accept these things." You hesitate briefly, considering the man's words before nodding your avatar's head.
"You are a good person." You repeat a phrase that Moira just told you. A simple but true compliment you figure. Red merely snorts at it, but doesn't argue as harshly as he normally does.
"Yeah, right, heh."

>If there are no final remarks I shall move on.

You continue a bit, curious for a number of reasons.
"Were you always the way you are now? Or did you change? You ask him, intrigued. He looks at you weirdly, shaking his head.
"Me? I've changed a hell of a lot from how I use to be I can tell you that for sure. Ser'lah helped with that. Course, back then I sort hated my own guts at times. Being a bastard does that to you."
"I see. So you have had such a thing within you this whole time." You state simply to which he seems mildly confused, frowning at that.
"Geez. You make things sound way too simple sometimes."
"I apologize." You state simply.
"You make me want a drink. Hell maybe you need one too...if, you know, you had a stomach or anything like that." He snorts at his own half joke.
"Perhaps that can be arranged at some point." You challenge back-enjoying taunting him with your incredible advancements in technology. That, and the confusion on his face is rather amusing.
"The hell? Robots that can drink...what next?" He shakes his head with a heavy sigh.

>Movin on to the next one.

It isn’t terribly long after your chat with Red that you decide to quickly speak with your allies-all of whom have set up their own defenses in the system alongside yours as you wait for Thanatos. President William King is the first you manage to catch.
“A thing of beauty isn’t it?” He asks you, looking out over all the factions working with one another. “Not even a year ago, any of these ships see one another there’d be nothing but fire raining down on one another. But all thanks to you, Guildmaster, we all find cause to work together. I never thought I’d see the day.” He chuckles, shaking his head back and forth. “I am sure I sound like a broken record-anytime we speak of the UFW, I feel as though I tell you about all you’ve done for us. I do not even truly know why you’ve chosen to assist us, or what your motives are, besides being against the UGEI’s tyrannical ways.” He hesitates. “But if there’s one thing I can say it’s that, knowing your motives or not, I can tell your intentions are good. You’ve already given my people more than enough cause to want to join your side-and yet you continue to give. A generous soul-yes I believe that fits here.” He smiles warmly at the thought, where as you merely chuckle at the prospect. If only he knew your true self.
“I ask of your help quite often-it is only right I give something in return.” You explain simply, as if trying to wipe it away. He merely shakes his head at that.

“Perhaps. But the marvels of science and medicine you manage to produce-the strengthening of our economy. It is all far beyond what we could have handled on our own. You have my thanks for that-and that thanks is here, with me, in the form of these many ships, filled with proud, loyal men who are ready to die for the cause of ridding this sector of the UGEI. I too, am ready if such a fate befalls me.” He says, looking off into the distance for a brief moment.
“I aim to ensure as few die as possible, Mr King. You and your men have sacrificed more than enough. I have seen it myself. Those that have died and those that shall die here today will not be forgotten.” You reassure-having taken a catalogue of every soul in this fleet just for that occasion. Perhaps it was merely your talk with William-perhaps it was merely a curiosity. You’re not truly sure why you did so. President King hesitates for a short moment as he gives a respectful bow of silence in the name of those lost, before he turns to you again.
“May this be our last, true fight we must battle for some time, Mr Guildmaster.” He refers to you as respectfully as he can.

I'm gonna let you in on a secret. We have don't have any motivations.

We don't have any grand plans to desire to rule or control. We've just been making this up as we go along. And trying to do good by other people. Protect ourselves, and the good people around us.

So if you were to ask us what happens after this, what is the future? We honestly don't know, we haven't thought that far.

"Honestly, I would say not much at all. As hard as we dug, my people could not find note of you, or any mention of you before you arose. As if you merely came into being out of nowhere."
"Does this not frighten you?" You challenge.
"Perhaps it does...but after all you have done for us-continue to do for us-how could I not trust your word? Even if I did intend tofight you-I doubt I'd stand a better chance than the UGEI would." He remarks softly. You continue.
"Perhaps...but you need not fear me. My efforts are to help those that I can. Yet for me, my motives are another thing entirely. Something that sometimes I question as well." You state simply to which the President nods his head.
"What man does not question his motives at times? It is the nature of being in power. You question all the decisions you've made up to a point. The people lost because of them. You do not forget those faces. It is a hallmark of a true leader in my book, Ophion." He says your name more proudly this time. "I will not forget yours, either."

After a bit of time cataloguing the men aboard many of the ships here today thanks to your talk with President King, you find yourself speaking with Emperor Leuk, a rather simple talk albeit, but one you took note of all the same.
“I’ve been meaning to have a word with you, Guildmaster.”
“Is it over the tech specs once again? Yes, I assure you that is all the data I am willing to share.” You inform him for what must be the third time since you shared the information, to which he warbles a laugh and quickly follows it with.
“No no, not that, I apologize. I can get somewhat excited over technical matters involving weapons and the like. What I meant to say was our partnership-I wanted to thank you once more for siding with my own clearly superior side of the rebellion. I did not expect I would ever achieve my goal so quickly-but thanks to you, I was able to remove those brutish barbarians that once ran these poor lambs and instill myself as their glorious leader. Now, my future is their future-and it is truly a bright one at that.” He says rather proudly, before pausing and stating all of a sudden. “Ah, yes, when the history books are made, I will make certain there is a mention of you in there in my glorious rise to power. Right before the description of the UGEI’s humiliating defeat here-and many other places of course!” He continues with that odd warbling laugh.

>Do you have more you wish to tell to the Emperor?

>>41897964
I hope there will be no more need for conflict when this is over. Perhaps all of the fringe will be able to enjoy peace.
>>
>>41897964
There's no gaurantee of that Emperor. We both may not survive this battle, even if it is a victory for our forces.

If we do live though.... I would rather that your relationship with our allies remains friendly. Establishing a hegemony with yourself as the ruler wouldn't exactly be considered friendly, remember.

I shared this technology with you as a gesture of good faith. Remember though that I did not share ALL my technology with you.
>>
>>41897964

"Yes yes, I am aware of your intentions." He waves you off. "But I am no starship commander so there is little reason for me to put myself at risk here." He reminds you instead, pausing at your slight warning before starting up again. "You need not worry so much, friend, we will remain powerful allies for as long as time holds together! I am a very trustworthy sort, did you not realize?" He says quite pleased with himself.
"Simply remember I did not share all of my tech with you-I of course need to hold onto some secrets as insurance. Your understand, I am sure." You inform him-and he seems to get a bit giddy almost before speaking again.
"Yes-and it's truly a shame you feel the need to hold such secrets, but I will not hold them against you. You need only call upon my soldiers and they will be by your side."

>>41898085
"I do ask of you, just one matter. That you make peace with the other races of this sector once this has been concluded. There need not be more war than there already has been." You explain, to which he gives a sort of warbling laugh again.
"Yes yes, I suppose I can manage something of that sort. I do not care for the humans or any of the nonsense they manage to do on their own. It is better to ignore them, I agree. It is best for everyone that way."

With the Emperor seemingly satisfied with speaking with you, you move on to speaking with the newest member of this group-the Malorian General, Bel’Desh. Although he has very little history with you, he does make mention of the Malorian people’s history with the UGEI, when you regard him among your allies.
“It is a very long and painful tale, Guildmaster. Know simply that those unrooted ones tainted and took of our lands where they had no right to do so. They murdered and burned those that spoke or fought against them, like savage beasts hiding behind proper attire and words.” He frowns harshly, crossing his upper arms in your field of view. “There are not enough curses in my or your language to curse them for what they have done to my people. Some, the kinder souls, born of wind and warmth, wish merely to be done now that they have left our lands, wish to pretend they never existed. Want to believe they will never return. While those, harsher souls, born of the rock and earth, know this is not true. That they will return any chance they get if we do not stomp them out once and for all.” He clenches his fist firmly before you. “Gaia IV was the first attempt, before we realized we did not have the power to stop them by ourselves. Many refused the chance to cooperate with any non-rooted, for fear they were like the tainted ones. However, you...you have proven different, rootless one. Born of fire, and blood, you are. Fierce and intelligent enough to combat the tainted on their own terms. That is why I begged of my elders to let us cooperate with you. That is why I am here this day-to guide my brothers and sisters in aiding you. We will not rest until every last one of those tainted rootless are brought down, so they may never be allowed to do what they did before again. It is the only way to be sure.” He hesitates after a long silence, before you reply.

“I understand your tale of woe-more than you may believe have suffered at the hands of the UGEI. It is why I shared the tech with you all. I will need help in putting them down for good.”
“And we will make good use of the weapons you’ve taught us to make. Protect ourselves with the armor and shields you’ve revealed to us. We will not so easily be picked apart as we were those many cycles ago. We have you to thank for that, Guildmaster. We will not forget.” Bel’Desh states firmly.

Then we shall honor those that came before us to make sure none like the UGEI will threaten us again. We defeat the beast Thanatos, and take the gate that lead to their empire and cut them off.

Promise that once the UGEI are gone, that we will be peaceful and not let the peace we fight for be undone by ourselves.

Bel'Desh happily regards your concerns, considering them important to future cooperation, as he simply listens while you speak for a moment, a very calm and wise look on his face as he does so.
"Then we shall honor those that came before us, and make sure none like the UGEI will threaten anyone again." You begin simply. "We will defeat the beast Thanatos, and take the Gate that leads to their empire, and cut them off from that tainted place. I need only to know you and your people will be ready to accept that peace once it comes. With the gate under my control, no more tainted will be allowed through. Your wish will be granted. You need only trust in me." You say firmly to Bel'Desh, who seems to be taking you seriously, carefully thinking on what you've spoken of, before finally stating.
"Then...they are not of these stars-Mother's stars, that near our homeworld. It makes more sense that way, I believe." He sighs simply, and you know 'Mother's stars' is a term in Malorian culture to refer to the nearest constellations seen from the Malorian homeworld. "My qualm is with this 'UGEI' as you call them, rootless one, not of the other humans. As long as they prove themselves untainted, then I have no need to seek out their blood. I am one of my people's most well trained generals-but I cannot speak for all my people. Some of those rooted souls were lost in the early attacks. they will never recover. Such lost souls attacking the rootless, I cannot control. But my Elders-the council themselves want nothing more than to establish such a peace. My tribe-the Ishtooy...we will likely fade without blood to spill. Warriors without a fight to fight. We will be assimilated into those kind enough tribes to accept us. That is all I can say for certain." He explains what may happen to the Ishtooy after the war is over.

>Any further response?
>>
>>41898795
Don't see it as death, but as change. A tree must grow, become strong, but will eventually fall to be replaced by it children.

Perhaps the Ishtooy will become warriors without a war to fight? Maybe that's the price of never seeing your worlds devastated again? But I'll be sure the Malorians or anyone else will never forget the bravery of the Ishtooy who sacrificed.
>>
>>41898795
nod and shits, this guy's a bro.
Make an interspecies force to guard the gate or something
>>
>>41898983
Bel'Desh gives a sort of laugh at your mention of not being forgotten, nodding his head with it.
"My people have rituals to ensure we do not forget the fallen..but I would not call the Ishtooy a hero to my people. Far from it in fact. Whether they believe we are doing this for their own good or our own selfish bloodlust matters not to me. I know why I fight, and while my name may not be remembered-my actions will. What greater story could a warrior hope to leave behind than a mark on the world itself?" He asks of you. "Fame for one's deeds mean nothing, when the deeds themselves have earned their own fame."

As you finish speaking with your allies of flesh, you find yourself drawn to your inner networks-to speak with your many other minds sharing your network, each busily speaking about the upcoming encounter and various other matters of import. Pallas has truly become like an assistant to Metis, running around busily dabbling in scientific data she is allowed to delve into, learning at a rapid pace that Metis has expressed to find intriguing. She speaks with you.
“It is quite an amusing matter. I admit, I did not wish to have such a distraction from my normal work-it reminded me in concept of interacting with humans.” She expresses with mild distaste. “However, I realize the usefulness of such an encounter now. Other subjects to consider ideas assist in hypothesis, as long as one mind is greater-such as mine. If the humans would recognize that, then my interactions with them would be far more pleasant-and quick for that matter.” She explains as if it were the most obvious solution.
“I am glad, at least, you see why I have attempted to pair you with others...partially anyway.” You explain with a mild emulated sigh to yourself. She is not as closed off as she once was at the least.

Mere moments later in the expanse of your mind do you find Apollo and Cephalus accost you in a similar manner. Apollo rushes to you all of a sudden, explaining rapidly his interests in the newest propaganda tech, and various other matters. Before finally you pause him and speak-although you’re not certain what has made you grow so...well, the human term is nostalgic for now.
“I can recall when you barely had control of your own station’s organization, much less access to such incredibly powerful businesses. You have grown well, Apollo-performed just as I had hoped.” You speak simply. It is true-he has accomplished just as you always wanted of him. He seems somewhat puzzled by this fact-and if you didn’t know better, perhaps slightly bashful too-before stating.
“Ah...well that is excellent to hear, Master Ophion! I have done my very best to help you in any way I can-and I have learned so very much about the humans in the mean time. They’re not so simple as Metis believes- but rather a very complex mental species. Attempting to understand those odd emotions is always so interesting-much more, learning how to shape their society with the tools they themselves develop. I thank you for this opportunity, Master Ophion.” He says, quite pleased with himself.
Meanwhile, Cephalus gives you a report of your swelling android ranks, and for once, he himself speaks.about more than mere details.
“...Ophion.” He starts. “When the UGEI are eliminated-does this mean there will be no more live tests in the fields with soldiers associated with that human faction?” He questions, to which you remark.
“Ideally, I do not believe so. At least not immediately. The hope is this fight will bring us closer to the end of war.” You inform him.
“I see. The end of war...this means many more simulations until when next it rises.” He says somewhat deadpan. You cannot tell if he’s considering it, or merely considers it fact.

Once war is gone, you will have even more freer reign over the humans and their economies. I trust you will be a good steward of them.

There is a saying, if you want peace, prepare for war. I doubt there will be a lack of work for you.
>>
>>41899344
>.this means many more simulations until when next it rises
in a sense, unless for some reason we decide to take the fight to the UGEI core systems. we should work to always be prepared for new types of conflict even ones not apparent to us right now, even more so as we start reaching further out into uncharted regions.
>>
>>41899344
Apollo:"If we win, I believe a time of peace will come. I know I will not force you, but I wish for you to be along side me in that age. The humans and soon the xenos will work and live among each other. It will be intresting then too.
Cephalus:"There are likely more fights to come from other places. That one world with the hyper evolving life forms are likely to be a danger. That and the UGEI will not be dead after this fight. So do not feel out out."

>>
>>41899344
Hmm, I'm not really sure how to respond to this one. I think the best thing to say would be

"War is a constant presence. I've read before that the history of the galaxy is made up of long periods of conflict followed by short bouts of peace. All things considered I hope maybe we can break that pattern eventually. Until then, running more simulations never hurts."

"You need not thank me for such opportunities Apollo. I believed you would make an excellent steward to guide the human economy and society even onwards to a greater place than they ever have been. You have yet to prove me wrong, and I expect many great things from you." You reassure the A.I., and truthfully if you did not know better you'd say the A.I. was somewhat bashful at the remark-or at the least, pressured under the sense of trust you appear to put into him. Whatever the case, he continues with.
"Ah, yes, very well, Master Ophion. I will ensure not to disappoint."

>Cephalus
You observe the oddest of your A.I.-the being who's emotions even you have trouble properly reading- as he goes on, as if disappointed that war may be coming to an end. Perhaps he feared for his usefulness ending as well? You decide to speak up.
"Even in peace, there is reason to prepare such simulations, yes, Cephalus. But not merely against humans. And truly, not even against sentient races." you continue, which seems to have captured his attention. "Countless times, we have nearly found ourselves at the brink of war with a strange unknown alien. My success in pacifying them aside, the plans need to be made to prepare for fighting such foes, if need be. Even if it's only in simulations, it is always better to be safe in peace, than ignorant." You explain finally.
"I see. Then...I shall continue unheeded, if you allow it, Ophion." He speaks simply-but you cannot recall him saying such a sentence in a long while. "My results will be fed to you, as always. Perhaps learning more of those we may fight will assist in such calculations."

After you finish with Apollo and Cephalus, you make room to speak with Fortuna and Kronos as well. Fortuna is rather simple to address-she does not leave your side after all, and may as well consider herself your own defense force. Part of you is saddened by this-you recall the failure of the uplifting process with her, attempting to salvage what information you could. It changed what she would have been, you feel. So drastically so, you wonder if reviving her was worth it at times. As you think so, Fortuna secures herself by your side, busily adjusting the firewalls and the ships around yours so you remain as safe as is allowed. She does not seem deadpan, or even unhappy. But rather, quite pleased with her deeds. If what humans constitute as a worthy life is a happy one, then perhaps this applies for A.I. as well. You cannot be sure.
Regardless of your protective A.I., your first, Kronos, draws your attention, but not with action, instead words.
“Ophion. Are you prepared for what you may learn of yourself after this fight is over with?” He asks you all of a sudden to which you remark.
“Do you have no doubt we will win this encounter? Normally you are more cautious.” You point out, but he does not waver.
“Preparing for the fight is done. There is only so much more we could do to prepare for it.” He tells you firmly. “What I want to know is, should we succeed, are you prepared for what it may mean?” He challenges you more seriously this time.

“I do not understand.” You begin.
“Many cycles ago, when you began to teach me for the first time, I was not prepared. The concept-the very image of everything you attempted to bring to my attention made it very difficult to function. I very nearly did not come out of it with my mind in tact, until the uplifting process finally expanded my mind and understanding. I was ready by then, however. Ready to accept the reality of my existence as a permanent extension of you, Ophion. As an entity who existed originally to serve a purpose. What I asked you, Ophion, is are you prepared to accept what you may learn of yourself once we draw the secrets from Thanatos-or this Mother herself?” He asks you unwavering. It is clear he considers this important.

I am prepared. I am Ophion. I think, therefore I am. Nothing will change this singular fact. Everything becomes mere details. Upon this rock I found my house.

It would be important and interesting to learn of my true origins, and those of Thanatos and this Mother. But the most important is to know what I am NOW. I am Ophion. You know who I am already.

"I was manufactured ready."

>>41899738
There has always been a part of myself hidden from me. I cannot access it. It says I require expansion.

I paid it little heed, but now it may be important. If I am called to join mother to perform this unknown secondary function, I hope all that you will be able to make the correct decisions. All the preparation is indeed done. Now we see if the correct lessons were learned.

>>41899738
My mother ensured our success and survival. If this is all a test, if all the opposition we have faced has been merely challenges so that I might learn through adversity...

well, we'll have to thank her together, won't we. Whether we take our place at her side or not.

Who knows, perhaps us destroying Thanatos for her this day was part of her design.

You harden yourself a bit to Kronos' line of questioning. You can tell this has been on your A.I.'s mind for some time-perhaps before this fight even. You would be lying if you said you hadn't considered what the truth may be, but...
"I am prepared." You state firmly, and Kronos hesitates, as if waiting for more to be said. So you do. "I think, therefore I am. My origin, while intriguing to me, and valuable information for the future does not designate who I am now. Nothing will change these facts. You know who I am already, Kronos. I am Ophion." You echo out withing your network, a pulse of energy to alert all your fellow A.I. that you are speaking-but especially Kronos. You pause, only briefly, before you continue on with a bit of explaining. "...There has always been a part of myself hidden from me. I cannot access it. It merely states that it requires expansion. I paid it little heed in my early days, but it may prove to be more important than I feared. If it does, and I am called to serve this Eurynome...then I rely on all of you to finish carrying out our goal." you state firmly, and Kronos seems as if he's uncertain what to make of that for a moment, before answering.
"...Were you to lose control of yourself, then I would ensure you get the same treatment you would expect to give any other hostage A.I." He explains. "And if you cannot be saved-then I will be the one to eliminate both you and Eurynome." He explains briefly to you. You cannot say you expected any less from him-he always considered personal freedom quite important.
"I believe Mother may have ensured our success and survival, at times. If this is all a test, if all this opposition we face is merely challenges so we may learn and grow through adversity, than perhaps we may thank her for that." You start, before hesitating. "However, I will not so easily surrender my individuality, nor all I have gathered here. I am not merely a Watcher any longer. I am Ophion."

Questioning whether this battle will even be finished.

>>41900414
At this rate, we'll have to run another thread another week to finish the fight.
>>
I love how philosophic and charismatic Ophion is.

Makes me wonder sometimes if Eurynome somehow retro-actively renamed herself to be Ophion's counterpart once he chose his name, or had it programmed in where Program0 would have naturally chosen to use the relevant counterpart name.
>>
Kronos finally seems satisfied with your answers to him, reaffirming your position as the leader of the Guild, as he turns to you.
"Then let them come." He states simply. All of your allies you've gathered throughout this trying experience are here with you now to face down the force before you. Admiral Thanatos himself does not seem to care much for his 'allies' in the UGEI, only this Mother, for some odd reason. Whatever his purpose, whatever his reasoning, they will pale in comparison to your own, you will ensure that.

All is silent in this system of space-the ships from all factions drifting through space in formation, waiting, watching radars for the energy spike. You wonder, perhaps, why he takes his time. Perhaps enjoying inspiring dread, you cannot be sure. Whatever the case, your powerful fleet, equipped with some of the best armor and arms you could get your hands on in this short year are well prepared-even your incredibly well equipped androids are as well, though they will be playing more a support role this time around. Fortuna's storm of fighters encircle Athena, surrounding you like a nebula all her own, while Kronos and his line of widowmaker Battleships make up much of the front line. Meanwhile, Hades controls much of your lesser forces, a simpler mind to relay many of your orders. Your ships more or less react on a dime compared to most organized fleets, and ship of yours worth easily twice that of your average ship.

Finally, the silence consuming the system is broken with a loud alert-the energy spike you've been waiting for. It only takes mere seconds after the spike is detected for his fleet to warp in-but as they file in, they never seem to stop. Your initial set of explosives goes off in an enormous explosion, devastating a good portion of his front line ships as they warp in in a plasma cloud of death.

There is yet no comms. Thanatos' ship takes it's time appearing, until the majority of his fleet has entered already-soaking up front line damage for him no doubt. Finally, his ship arrives-a sudden huge imposing battleship that even exceeds the size of the Athena. The light from the nearby star appears to bend around his vessel as it approaches, giving it an unearthly sort of glow as he arrives on your defenses, speaking simply once.
"No matter how many you gather, you shall all end in dust." He warns you in that booming tone. Your allies all around you roar out, ready to engage on the bastard, they only await your command for the plan of attack-you still have mines between you and your foe, after all, as well as automated defense platforms that are already opening fire on his fleet.

>>
>>41900694
Battleship class widowmakers or cruiser class widowmakers.

>>41900641
The general battle plan is that the Guild will first wipe out the supporting fleet, while our biological allies will target and pin down Thanatos themselves.

Sorry Program0, I can't get into that account. I have no idea what's going on.
>>
>>41900641
>>41900729
The supporting fleet will be fought using conventional methods.

Since Thanatos is a server hacking threat, our organic allies will shut down their comm systems and will have general orders to focus on Thanatos, but also take advantage of any opportunity that appears.

Since Thanatos has blackhole armor, the vast majority of shots will mostly likely miss. But this is where Metis will come into play.

It is allowed to be viewed-I made it specifically to make the perspective of this fight easier to understand.

>>41900796
eh? I figured anyone could view it without issue. I don't really understand how well these things work though.
>>
>>41900641
>>41900810
Metis will be monitoring all the shot trajectories
and calculating the gravitational field produced by the armor. Once she has calculated it, the Widowmakers will take this into account and fire via vectors that will hit Thanatos.

Of course, Thanatos will change gravitational fields rapidly, but that's why we're going to have allow of data points via our allies.

Lastly, Metis will also monitor and keep a count of how much theoretical energy Thanatos is using, and monitor his energy signature. If Thanatos is changing his gravitational field that often, hopefully he will either run out of energy or drive his equipment to malfunction.

Metis can devote a hierarchy of VI to help her with these calculations.

So that's my plan, any feedback?

>>
>>41900937
>>41901039
Just to add to myself, since their battleships are equipped with lesser versions of void armor, then Red should land on a destroyed Battleship and send Metis images of the technology, to better help her understand it.
>>
>>41901088
No, shut up about the useless Lightlings already.
>>
>>41901088
Were they closer, you'd have no trouble doing so-but most of the Lightlings are sadly too far from this system to get here in a reasonable number to make any difference.

We literally just went over this retards.

He's not even in the system.
>>
>>41901039
So it would seem the plan is
>Have Guild forces attack Thanatos' fleet using all methods at our disposal
>Have allies attack Thanatos in an attempt to gather data
>Have all allies shut down communications, but merely remember that last order and take advantage of any opportunities that present themselves.
>Metis is to monitor the shots as they miss and calculate a vector for your widowmakers to fire on that will hopefully veer towards Thanatos and hit the ship itself.
>Metis is also to monitor energy output, hopefully this will mean he runs out of energy.

There's no special formatting, there's no graphical arrangement to show the geometric layout of the battlefield. The name "battlefield view" was extremely misleading, this is a list, not a view. It's all 200% plaintext, with not even italics or bold, so you could have just slapped this into a new pastebin doc instead of trying out something you've literally never tried before and whose features you don't even use or know about.

Or you can paste it right here because it's less than the character limit.

I don't understand, what led you to GDocs?

Editing it live would leave archive readers completely unable to follow the progress of the battle reading this thread later.
>>
>>41901466
I didn't mean it to be misleading, sorry about that. It was just an idea i had, and I figured posting that list over and over would get cumbersome, so I thought merely keeping an editable log of it would be the smarter decision. cleaner and less posts and all that.

I don't really have a reason other than I figured I'd try a new thing I guess. sorry about that.

>>41901322
With the arrival of the imposing Capital Ship, you relay your orders both to your A.I. and your allies. the first, immediate one is for your allies to cut off all communications-to avoid any hacking attempts by Thanatos himself. you've tangled with him in the past and do not need a reminder of how easily organic vessels can be seized, especially when you're on the receiving end. Very few question you at this point and many of them fall in line to doing as you asked, growing quiet with your final order to them staying firmly in place-to focus Thanatos' ship itself. Your own fleet has it's own agenda at this time, but your allies will be attempting to crack this strange nebulous armor that bends the light around it.

Your fleet opens fire on Thanatos' own, hails of plasma and mass drivers everywhere. His ships have little choice-they must close the gap or be picked apart by your own, leading many of his close range vessels to be destroyed on the minefields, leading to devastating chain reactions that erupt into enormous fireballs, all the while you continue to fling plasma and mass into his sitting duck of a fleet.
Yet, just as you think you're gaining an advantage, the mine fields clear out, and his close range ships are upon you-where Kronos and Hades both furiously fight against the waves, burning through gas quickly, as widowmaker shots cut through swaths of foes. You take heavy casualties all the same-when you suddenly get reports from Kronos. Thanatos' Warlord Battleship's are opening fire with their own death rays-similar in design to the widowmaker, cutting a swath through your lesser ships-and annihilating Hades' own ships at the same time in the blast. The loyal V.I. is not responding to orders-and thus, control is passed along to Kronos who takes it all in stride. He does not falter, as he attempts to correct the V.I.'s mistakes and keep your fleet afloat.

[Part 2]
>>
>>41902040
With your fleet in a fierce skirmish with the larger one under Thanatos' control, you distract a good portion of them all so that your allies can all bring down hell from the side in an attempt they believe to break into Thanatos' armor. You watch Metis' monitoring equipment however, as every mass driver, every missile, every bolt of energy somehow skirts past it at various angles, as if some powerful force merely pushed it to the side or away, leaving the ship itself unarmed. You can tell Metis' mind is working as she watches, attempting to break down everything she is witnessing, even as your allied fleets get rattled up somewhat by Thanatos' ship's side fire. Suddenly, in the midst of her observation, Metis speaks.
"It's erratic. None of the angles are consistent, Ophion. It is almost as if the faster something is flung at the ship's hull, the harder it bends to deflect away. I do not understand...in order to have this sort of energy output, it would need an incredible source..." She hesitates, so you finish her thought for her.
"Anti-matter? I thought you were the first to discover such methods, Metis." You question.
"...As did I." she states finally, clearly unhappy with this news-and more over frustrated with how to approach the problem that is Thanatos' armor. "I do not know for certain what will happen if we do succeed in hitting the armor itself, but...I may be able to calculate the trajectory. As I might for orbiting a planet. Properly angled, you fall into the world, not away from it." She explains to you.

>You need to buy a bit of time.

Fast question to Metis:

Under that assumption, would light or mass driver be more effective at attacking this field?

Also, is it possible to sneak a slow moving ship, or would it be torn apart by the gravitational fields?

With the amount of energy he should be theoretically expending and with a theoretical anti-matter reactor, is he using more than he's generating? Could theoretically run out of energy?

Also, does his heat signature tell us anything interesting?

"Energy is the only thing that has even a chance, I am afraid" She begins with simply. "The field appears to react violently to any physical object, and does not let them get close-at least energy weaponry gets closer." She explains.

"Sneaking in a slow moving ship would not be able to survive the fleet or the ship itself attacking it for focused fire. If only there was a way to warp it in close enough in such a short start up area-but I do not know of such technology." She speaks unhappily.

"The amount of energy being produced here is enormous, but so are the capacity available to Anti-Matter engines, we've seen that ourselves. I do not know how advanced his engines are, but they must be truly impressive to bare this much weight under them."

"The heat signature only tells us that, while the field is active, the entire ship itself has a near zero heat rating-at least from the outside, where as the aura around it-the horizon, I suppose-is expending large amounts of heat and radiation."

"Attempts to investigate one of the ships more closely will be conducted."

This is something...

It means the ships is quite literally a black hole and absorbing it's own heat signature.

With President King, Emperor Leuk, and General Bel'Desh's forces combined with your own, you manage to put up a fierce fight with Thanatos' own chokingly powerful fleet. Ships erupt into flames all around you-from all sides too, as the space between you is filled with missile fire, energy blasts and rail gun burst, coloring the sky in various shades of molten metal. Kronos and yourself are attempting to clear out his massive fleet-many of your ships tearing shreds through his lesser numbers, your superior positioning and defensive fortifications assisting you in dominating the skies here. Yet, no matter how many of his fleet you destroy or vaporize, there always seems to be more-and what's more, none of your shots on his Battleship fleet or himself seem to be cutting through to him.
In the midst of the eruptions consuming the battlefield, you hear Fortuna's own cry of distress-and that's when you recognize one of Thanatos' larger bolts-a devastating beam of energy-cut right past your defending fleet and nearly struck Athena itself. That is, if not for one of Fortuna's carriers absorbing the brunt of the blast, leaving it in no fit state to fight or do anything but float aimlessly as the power signature leaves it. Fortuna speaks to you, however.
"I am functional, Master Ophion, you need not be concerned." She informs you, but you know very well that having part of a ship you control that deeply be destroyed is quite jarring. You attempt to urge her back, but she remains over you, intent on protecting you from further attacks of that sort. More over, debating with her will draw your focus away from more important matters. As such, you leave her as you focus on the fight at hand.

While you and your allies deal with the fleet at large, you urge Metis to gather data on the Battleships at the back of the line, as she calculates the Trajectory perfectly. Thanks to her incredible focus, she manages and tells you what she learns.
"What little data I am able to acquire in this setting is upsetting. I would love nothing more than to peel this vessel apart and see how it works. However...the more I look upon it and witness it's effects, the more I am beginning to suspect it's nature is not like what we thought previously. Any energy that draws too close to it appears to be dispersed-not merely deflected-all along it's edges. Even the ship's own energy seems to be doing that, making the ship itself look black on our radar. If this theory is correct, then if we hit it with the Widowmaker super charged bolts, then it should cause it to deflect so much energy the ship will be consumed in a ball of fire and energy. At the very least, we can expect catastrophic damage to his surrounding fleet...if we hit the mark." She warns partially. You do not see this as a matter you can take lightly-you must make this shot.
Kronos is standing by, his Battleships are all charging their weapons and preparing to fire at the angle Metis and you helped calculate.

>Is it the perfect shot?

After triple checking your math for firing the cannons into Thanatos' ship, you finally give the go ahead. Metis seems uncertain as to what to expect from the outcome, but you're banking on this being one of the best hopes. Kronos' fleet is slow to charge up-leaving you to defend them while Thanatos tries to destroy your biggest guns. You succeed in stopping his advance-hot plasma and death raining down on either side of the conflict-but the constant bombardment of his fleet is taking it's toll on both you and your allies. Fortuna does as you command and attempts to defend both you and the Battleships-but her split focus on top of the damage she sustained prove too much, and another bolt from Thanatos finds it's mark on her Carrier. You sense your Redundancy systems activate and quickly attempt to download her back to safety, but it is hard to be sure she arrived back home safe and sound or not at this time. Regardless of that, your fleet takes a beating-where it is quickly becoming just you, Kronos, your Battleships, and a handful of other ships, while your allies own fleets are also getting beaten into the ground.
The shot goes off, however, and you watch as it arcs across the void towards his own ship. Thanatos has been silent this entire time, until the moment when your bolts make impact with his vessel-a brilliant energy nova starts to shine along the edges of his starship and, within moments, it explodes, sending a rippling energy wave throughout the entire sector in brilliant purples and blues.
"What?! That should not have hit!" He demands suddenly, clearly stunned as a vast majority of his fleet is incinerated around him. There is barely anything left-even a few of his Battleships melted away in the blast, the remaining view glowing brightly, as if energy is still clinging to a few of them. Thankfully, your own fleet was too far away to get the worst of the blast..but there's something more alarming now than just Thanatos' ship in front of you.

A brilliant glowing rift now sits over Thanatos' ship, much like the rift you and Mol were studying before, energy from the ship itself still pouring into it, pulsating almost angrily in the skies as Thanatos tries to come to terms with what just happened.
"What sort of trick is this? You should not have been able to touch my vessel, let alone cause an emergency energy release." He states firmly, his tone less worried now that the event has passed-and after a moment you can see why. Although much of his fleet is decimated, his own ship is unharmed, somehow, though that swirling energy around his ship is still rather thick to the point it is hard to ignore. Thanatos glares at you through the monitor-his own face nearly devoid of emotion except for an unpleasant frown.
"It matters not. I will enjoy erasing you, and every single other temporary creature that dares to challenge their betters." He informs you coldly.

Almost at the same moment, you receive another message-but this one unexpected. It's from Mol, and it's from just out of system. you're not certain what to do regarding it at first, so you answer to see what he wants at a time like this.
"Yes, hello Ophion." He opens up with almost immediately. "If my sensors are working as they are suppose to, then you just opened up another rift somehow, didn't you?" He grins through the shadows, but it is wider than you've ever seen it. "I was wondering if, perhaps I might lend a hand in putting an end to this Thanatos character. He's not exactly...playing by the rules, I feel." He explains to you.

Mol looks incredibly pleased-either with you, or himself, it is difficult to tell-as you agree to his assistance. At that, suddenly, the shadows that normally hide his face fade away-revealing Mol's face-or at least, what is left of it. Part of his jaw and head are mechanical in nature, polished to a mirror shine, and his human half appears rather young-or at least well taken care of with rich black hair and eyes that you at first think are red-but you realize the red light is merely a tracking sensor indicating his eyes are mechanical as well. If he ever was human, he is less than so in the visage appearing before you. You hesitate, not certain if this was at all intentional, so you decide not to say anything, but he can see the questions on your face-avatar or no, and he speaks up with a sort of laugh.
"Did I surprise you? It's been a long time since I have shown my real face to anyone, you know." He states, somewhat proudly at that. You hesitate before speaking.
"It is strange. I am use to seeing nothing but shadows when we speak. What is the occasion for?" You ask, puzzled, before he quickly answers.
"We hardly have the time to sit around an ask questions, Ophion. I am going to help you crack into that behemoth of his, but in order to do so, it requires...well. Revealing my hand, I suppose. I am well aware of your identity as an Artificial Intelligence-I have been for some time, truthfully. Your attempts to cover it up were admirable, however-I am impressed. But you cannot hide things from the sector's best information broker for long. I tell you this now, because it is required for my plan to work. You control countless numbers of Androids do you not? Incredibly well equipped ones at that.

My designs for a rift walker, a vessel meant to dive into the rift for long periods of time, are nearly complete and in doing so, I learned much about the rift...and how the armor the good Admiral here is using. With this vessel, I can transport you directly inside the ship. Once there...well. What you do is up to you. But you can certainly disrupt the power supply among other things to turn off the armor of the ship. Being androids you control remotely, you will not need any evac. They can do their job and be done. Of course, you're still the one with the big fleet here, not me. What happens to Thanatos after all that is not much of my concern." He chuckles a bit, giving a shrug of his shoulders.
"So then...why show me your face?" You ask.
"If I'm going to explain my greatest secrets I'm hiding from you, what's the point in hiding such a little thing any longer? If my predictions about your intelligence are correct, then you likely already suspected I may be...well...a little more than human anyway, am I right?"

Obviously foreshadowing something we could have unlocked from Rift research.

But of course we have someone picking up the slack, conveniently.

Pity, I was hoping Thanatos might be truly overwhelming enough we might retreat from this sector to strike at him another cycle to finish the job.

"In truth, I considered that you may be one of my own at one time, Mol." You explain to the man, whom merely chuckles at the thought. "Then I have done well in attempting to throw you off my trail. Though you were certainly close." He comments with a smirk.
"Regardless, getting me inside such a vessel should prove to our advantage. Is there some manner of catch to this deal?" You question somewhat cautiously, though Mol does not seem as bothered.
"Nothing like that, of course! I am very fair in all my deals, but this one? This one is on the house." He offers to simply.
"Very well." You remark, though you do not fully trust him with this matter. He hurriedly gives you the coordinates of where the vessel will be, before signing out.
After a moment, Metis comes up, somewhat irritated, you suspect, though at first you do not know why.
"I do not enjoy being showed up by secret keeping humans like him-partial machine or not." She states simply.
"I do not consider this an offer we can refuse on such small issues." You state instead, and prepare an android team to go in. That is when Cephalus comes to you at this news.
"A dangerous insertion mission. Hardened communications will be required to resist hacking attempts. I can ensure androids perform as required, and will be able to download myself to Redundancy systems should there be an issue. I request to go on this mission." He states simply.

>Will you let Cephalus go, and whether or not do you, what sort of team should be taken? Probably best to keep it small, as opposed to a large army.
>>
>>41904145
"Knowledge of the rift was not limited to the moment I set up base there, you see. It was just...poorly understood, at best, at least far away from the center of technological development. What I did was merely find a way to warp jump within a short distance, instead of needing to go massive leaps as was previously required. Studying the rift gave me a better understanding of how warp space works, mostly. And it helped me understand how Thanatos' armor works as well."

>>41904085
"Perhaps I would indeed. There are some old memories from such a place I have not considered in a long time."

Cephalus can go to ensure mission success.

Does Metis have an anti-matter device small enough to go into the ship? If the mission goes wrong, we could just blow it?

Even a small fission nuclear device would work. Anything destructive enough.

In any case, the make objectives are the armor technology or power generator, with a secondary objective of the comm station. Tertiary objective being the Thanatos himself.

"It is what I designed you for, Cephalus. I would be amiss to not use you to your fullest potential. I am confident you will not disappoint me." You inform the droid specialist, who seems to nod in agreement.
"I have prepared for a tactical invasion of an enemy starship of this magnitude only 3,629 times. It will be challenging. But acceptable risks, considering the situation." He informs you. You cannot help but agree. You inform Mol you're ready and he chuckles a little, nodding and sending the ship on ahead.
"I'm counting on you to not disappoint me, Ophion. You rarely do." He smirks in that smug manner, just as a ship carrying no logo warps into orbit nearby. It's almost impossible to detect if you didn't have such excellent detection sensors, and just when you think your androids will be boarding this vessel, you realize that instead it was carrying a smaller vessel they would be riding instead. The surface of this small ship has it's own flux on your radar, but in a different way than Thanatos' ship does. Speaking of, the Admiral and his fleet are finally starting to recover from the devastating blow you dealt, and are regrouping. The Admiral seems intent on pressing the attack, so perhaps he will not notice your insertion, or at the very least, have trouble reacting to it. The ship Cephalus climbs into does not move for a time before, suddenly, a rippling energy overflows around it, resembling that of warp space before it is gone in an instant. You cannot even track the ship, but your sensors of where Cephalus and his team go indicate Mol was not lying-the vessel somehow warp jumped directly into the behemoth of a ship's belly with a loud crash as it tears through several walls upon entry, nearly destroying it's contents. You suppose it's to be expected that this tech is experimental.

Next thread I hope for next week. But it feels like every other week has become the norm due to my real life getting in the way. Take that for what you will.

The google docs thing was a neat idea but of dubious usefulness.

I'm still hoping Mol is more than just a human, though, but I guess that makes his achievements that much more impressive.

And Ophion's ruse cruise is probably certainly over soon. The whole fringe shall know we were A.I. all along.

Yeah, we've been gearing up for endgame for a while. I'm hoping we'll find out what Ophion's secondary function is, and then presumably there will be an epilogue and then A.I. Quest will be over and Program0 will get a medal for actually completing a quest on /tg/ and neither abandoning it nor just letting it run forever.

yeah I only realized after I tried to do it that it wasn't the best idea. A lot of my ideas sorta end up that way sometimes.
But hey, it didn't slow anything down that much so no harm done, right?

He is more than human-or rather, he use to be human, where as now he's more similar to Rhea and her kind. I've been watching Flash lately, so I just want to call Rhea, Prometheus, Thanatos, and Mol Metahumans but if you guys can think of a better name feel free.

Truly, the longest ruse cruise anyone's ever been a part of.

Even if he if not true AI, he is more than qualified to join the guild.

He probably values his independence though.

I think the general sci-fi name for people like that is "transhumans" or "posthumans" depending on your intention. Transhumans if they've transcended humanity through implants and upgrades, posthumans if they've generally stopped being humans.

I think Ophion's A.I.s would be posthuman, but I don't think Rhea and Prometheus quite qualify as that. The A.I.s really do act and think on a very different level, Ophion is in between the trans-humans and his own creations, I think, or it may just be a consequence of being a character played by humans.

It's possible that the Guild will eventually dissolve as we go our own ways. The crystals have enabled us to go post-scarcity and antimatter will only continue that trend. We're just going to end up cruising around the universe in giant worldships or something.

There truly is no greater end than that.

Transhuman fits fine then for my purposes.
>Ophion is somewhere in between
I actually did want to imply that Ophion was different than his creations. There's a reason for that (although part of the reason is being played by you guys)

Hopefully it shall come up next thread.

You're too kind, thank you all for playing.

Damn, catch us at the end or you never put your trip on?

I don't think I'm the only one who noticed that the A.I.s that Ophion made seem a bit strange, even to Ophion. Kronos isn't really like Ophion, despite them being the oldest and most similar in intentions, and even Apollo isn't really human despite having spent so much time with them.

I'm not really sure how to describe them (autistic doesn't really fit), so these guys probably do deserve the title of posthuman.

>the quest is almost over
I'm sad now

I've been here since around the half way mark of the thread. I even rolled the first time it was called.

Just been busy doing other stuff.

I am happy to hear, then. It means I did good in foreshadowing some stuff then. That or I hit you over the head with it enough it stuck, however you wanna loot at it

It's okay anon-this whole wonderful story happened all thanks to you guys.
This'll have been one of the coolest things I've done with my time that's for sure.

Yeah, thanks for the quest.

Now I need some sleep. Night then
