Although one of the giant crabs was lost in a fiery spectacle that even the Tribeburner tribe would have been proud of, the relocation to the vast crab lake was successful. You had to send a group to take a few extra trips back and forth to the tomb to move the goblin’s salvage; they seem a bit happier now with all their stuff gathered.


The goblins seem a bit restless here by the lake where there is almost no trash to dig around in but the smooth black stone and ample if somewhat questionable supply of water makes this a good place to build permanent structures.


Once big concern is how to defend against the threat of the cleaners – from time to time you see distant pinpricks of light reminding you of their presence. The only substance they don’t seems to suck up is the hard black stone that makes up the ground and so far the goblins have only quarried bricks which are not large enough to withstand an impact from a cleaner.

You set up an array of fire pits to boil the brackish water of the lake, it will be a lot of mind numbing labor to purify water like this but thankfully you now have skeletons to tirelessly do just this sort of thing for the tribe. Until you construct actual buildings you will not be able to improve or secure the water purifiers.


You then take the mining squads away from the lake and have them cut much larger blocks of the black stone to get usable material to build a wall. Rather than digging into the stone and making a quarry you just have the goblins make a trench in front of where the wall will be build. The blocks of stone will not need to be moved as far and it will be able to double as an extra protective measure and as a canal to move water.

The level of craftsmanship the goblins display while cutting the blocks for the wall surprises you. The blocks of black stone slide together perfectly locking into place with need for mortar.

Meanwhile the combat squads have been practicing – training with weapons and running drills will help improve their condition over time. In particular one of the melee focused squads have begun to take care of the captive tigers and after more than a few goblins being sent off for medical treatment, the adult tigers have been saddled. Without much success the goblin squad is trying to train the saber tooth beasts to work as combat mounts.

While you are helping the goblins do their work you hear screams coming from the other side of the makeshift village. When you arrive you find that the walking plants have broken out of their cages and started eating goblins. The plants have also tripled in number growing at a far faster pace than they should have been able to.

For now the wall has been finished complete with a makeshift gate and bridge, the giant crabs cannot climb over the walls that easily but are able to just go around them by walking into the lake.

The wall itself is currently about twice your height and two blocks thick, overall the wall is rather sturdy and should prevent attacks from anything other than flying creatures.


The inside of the wall is beginning to fill with piles of garbage as the goblins just scatter their salvage all over the place.

They are magic skeletons so they stay in tip top shape unless there is an accident and they broken or something rekills them.

You have the mining squads dig out a series of pits to contain the monstrous plants with, after which recapturing them and placing a weighted down lid over the pits is easy enough. You then try to train or at least tame the plants.


The plants respond only to meat - you try to starve one plant to see what happens and the hungrier the plant gets the more violent it acts trying to tear into the stone walls of the pit. Denying the plants water doesn’t seem to bother them so you stop giving one water to see what happens. The plant slowly shrivels up and dies, it seems while they don’t seek it out the plants do require water. Checking the plant’s corpse you find three seeds hidden inside of it just waiting to grow in more favorable conditions.

With the plants taken care of you help the forge squad set up some forges so they can once again make equipment for the tribe. While the forges are now contained within a nice black brick building there is no real improvement in the quality of the metals that they can produce.


You try to get the medical and poison squads to create some medicines even just antidotes to their poison but they don’t understand what that is. The goblins of the tribe are immune to the poisons that they craft so there has never been a need for antidotes. They do however manage to use the spider venom to improve their poisons.


You also release the crystals magic once again.

You have the combat squads run mock combat simulations but even with shields the melee squads are devastated by the crossbow squads. With the spider mounted crossbow troops giving them superior mobility they are able to overcome the crossbow squads without mounts as well. Mixing the squads together to give the goblins with crossbows support from the melee squads ends the same way – total domination by the spider riders. The only progress the saber tooth tiger beast rider squad has made is to be able to ride the creatures without being bitten.


Unfortunately any reward for good performance during training falls to the wayside as the goblins prove to be unable to clean up the mess they are making. Cleaning out one area seems to create a larger mess than existed in the first place. The end result is that without anywhere to put it all the trash is just building up faster than ever.


The inside of the wall is now overfilled with garbage that the goblins scavenge severely hindering the progress of anything you do.

You ask the shamans what they know about the cleaners, does magic even do anything to the strange things?


“Better to hide and runs,” One shaman starts.

“Eats even magic.” The other finishes.


The upside to the cleaner coming by your makeshift village is that you can finally do something about all the garbage that the goblins have been piling up inside the wall. You have the goblins carry the trash out of the walls directly into the path of the cleaner and then bring the crabs around the wall to stay safe while the cleaner passes.


You watch as the cleaner absorbs all the garbage as it plows its way to the lake. As the cleaner comes closer and closer to the lake the ground begins to rumble. Ripples form on the surface of the lake as the rumbling becomes an earthquake.


And then as the cleaner reaches the lake a titanic crab lifts from the water as smaller giant crabs tumble off of it into the water. The massive crab is covered with cuts and gouges from doing battle with other gigantic beasts. With a quick snap the titanic crab uses its claws to effortlessly snap up the cleaner and it begins to tear the cleaner apart. Even as the cleaner tries to absorb the crab it begins to eat the cleaner, the smaller crabs fighting over tattered scraps of the cleaner that are scattered about as the big consumes the cleaner.


With its feast done the titanic crab slowly sinks back into the middle of the lake as though nothing even happened. The other crabs begin to scatter away from the lake seeking a new place to live and the goblins give chase capturing as many of them as they can.

The shamans currently refuse to teach you more magic so you have to practice on your own, unfortunately the spell books you have only have spells you already know or spells that are still too advanced for you to learn. You try to sit and meditate and focus your magic – after some time you think that you can feel something.

You then oversee the construction of a barracks for the combat squads, a simple brick building with living quarters and some extra rooms for storing weapons, armor, and other supplies. Next to the barracks you have the goblins build a small stone wall separate off a training area for the goblins to have a clean space to run combat drills in.


The skeletons have also streamlined the water purification process to a point that only a few of them are needed to run it and have begun to take over the work of the farming squad tending to the vines and flowers.


The goblins are beginning to fill the inside of the wall with salvage again.

Despite your best efforts to get the goblins to clean up after themselves or at least pile the garbage outside the walls without a dedicated place to store stuff the goblins continue to fill the inside of the wall with salvage.


You try to keep meditating but it doesn’t work very well as you are also directing the goblins to build a more advanced training area for both themselves and their mounts. Many goblins are injured when they try to ride giant spiders through the newly constructed obstacle course – at least they medical squad is getting more practice. A few of the smarter goblins have made straps to hold them to the saddles so they don’t fall off from now on.


The tigers fare much better on the course and the squad begins to push the saber tooth beasts to run the course faster and faster.

You try to decipher the label but honestly without any context at all the three letters V, R and P could stand for anything. The warning is also an unknown to you but at least it is not some kind of biohazard. A small opening lets you see what is inside the hypospray – a swirling silver substance. You cannot see any way to open the device without destroying it.

The seeds are magic and grow nearly instantly to full size at which point they pull their roots out and start hunting for food.

You spend some time with the plants trying to see if they are intelligent at all and what you discover is that they grow and split off more bodies if fed enough but they only respond to meat. Other plants or skeletons don’t trigger a response at all but the plants try to chase after and eat other living things. So you let the plants go without water to shrivel up and die so you can harvest seeds from them to plant later to help in combat or something.

You also ask the shamans to contact the Foulcurse tribe, they advise against leaving the area to go meet with the other tribe and work to convince the Foulcurse to come to you. Thankfully they are impressed with your defeat of the lich and agree to come meet with you at the crab lake.

You then have the forge squad make some larger kettles to boil and purify more water faster. Then you get the goblins to help construct a new building well insulated with bricks to form a new water purification facility. Once completed the new building gets swelteringly hot inside only you and the skeletons can go inside but it provides much more clean water than the more simple stills you had constructed before. There is so much clean water now that the medical squad can wash and sterilize their equipment rather than reusing it dirty.


The goblins continue to fill the inside of the wall with salvage and have also filled two of the pits that the mining squads were cutting stone from outside the walls.

While you were mediating the goblins have constructed a large circular building with a big central room with ten smaller connected rooms for the shamans to house their things and to do magic in. The goblins then dug a tunnel into the stone ground the beginning of an underground warren to house goblins and salvage. The heaps of garbage that have begun to pile up inside the wall are no longer growing now that the goblins are storing their stuff underground.

With their skill at purifying water and tending plants unchallenged the skeletons continue their takeover of basic labor and now have begun to cook as well. You are not really sure how something unable to taste is able to cook but it turns out to be better than the goblins have been doing so far.

I say we look into making a huge pit to dump the garbage in. Using the stone we take out of the pit to build/increase our defenses. The pit should be out of the city, to reduce pollution and what not.

The cleaners'll even come by from time to time to clean our dump out, and then we can make a new one.

Most of your food is scavenged mystery goblin soup and now purple fruits. Any sickness or diseases either gets goblins turned into soup or magically cured by the shaman if it is really bad. The goblins don’t really need medicine - they repopulate faster with more food though.

You try to talk to the shamans about how you can better meditate to improve your magic or even if they will tell you what magic they know. The shamans however are set in their ways and just shoo you away after saying you are not ready. So instead you decide to try and continue to train the various goblin squads.


After showing the blacksmithing squads how to use billows to improve their forges they are able to increase the heat to the point of melting iron.


You try to have the medical squad explain basic hygiene to the other goblins but the best they can do is convincing the tribe to stop piling trash around inside the walls. With that momentous achievement you then have the mining squads begin to carve out a large landfill for the goblins to store extra salvage in outside the walls. You make sure to have them design the pit so that if a cleaner happens to come by again that it can get in and out easily – wouldn’t want to deprive the titanic crab of its meals.


And that is when two things happen rather suddenly – First the Foulcurse tribe’s caravan appears in the distance and then those strange GPS devices register a half dozen of active zones appearing all around your village.

Sure, I can get behind this. Foulcurse could be pretty hard to convince due to our skellingtons, and I doubt hiding them would fool a magically inclined tribe. Getting them would be an immense step towards making everything hugely better.

There is a chance that they might not care, or even possibly approve, of the smart use of labor skeletons. But I wouldn't count on that possibility.

Is the old sickeater chief the most skilled combat goblin we have? If he is, maybe lend him the bonetooth sword for the fight.

I thought of an awesome idea. Position a repeating ballista at one iron rimmed mirror in the camp. Strap the mirror to us, or to the side of a fast mount. Ballista fires huge as fuck bolts while the mount runs around an enemy mirror side towards it.

Of course, we only have arrows and crossbows right now. We could still perform a lesser version of the strategy.

Too bad for them that even with guns and armor, they won't stand a chance. We've trained and outfitted ourselves and the goblins too well, and the foulcurse will flank at least some when coming to us. And you don't fuck with an army of mages.

i wonder if we could upgrade to a magic forge where goblins of different types can be sacrificed for incredible upgrades, when foulcurse join us. That'd be a kekworthy overlord ref.

Either way, in their spare time they should train under the shamans for a little extra efficiency and or broader knowledge.
