The first journey is brief and uninterrupted, as Celes’ ship jets away from what you’ve come to know as Twilight town.

She leans over and smacks Zidanes’ hands away from the console when he attempts to touch it, shaking her head in silent disapproval, before taking the pilot's seat, while you just settle for staring out the windows at the infinite void, bright dots occasionally winking. “World’s falling to the Darkness.” Celes tells you, looking upwards as well. “Exactly what we’re out here to stop.”

Celes has put herself in charge of navigation, picking a world she believes to be the safest to try and aid at present, the ship arrives outside a snowbound world, ice capped mountains point high into the sky, their peaks invisible behind thick clouds.

“Welcome children, to the land of-”

“Who cares what it’s called, I wanna see it up close!” Zidane declares, jumping to his feet and slapping a hand against the console, “Forward!”

Celes rolls her eyes, until they land on Zidanes hand. “Take your hand off that no-!” She yelps.

“Gravity field… disengaged.” A cool robotic voice announces, every floats upwards from the floor, struggling to keep hold of a chair, you watch as Celes seems to redirect in midair, leaping off of thin air and aimed at Zidane.

Zidane glances downwards, panic in his eyes, “Oh shi- sorry, I can fix this!” He starts pressing random buttons.

“Don’t press that one!” Celes screams, but it’s already too late.

“Emergency teleportation evacuation activated. It has been a pleasure serving under you.” The ship breathes.

Zidane disappears in a flash of purple light, as out the window, you see a stream of similarly purple energy heading towards the world. Celes is the next to go, streaming towards the planet as well, though blasting for a different area as the ship spins about on its axis from all the roughhousing.

And then it gets you. The warm ship interior is replaced instantly by cold. Cold, cold, COLD!

You’re surrounded on all sides by white, and struggle in what you think is an upwards direction, bursting upwards out of a snow drift shivering, you hold yourself, before remembering your new trick. “F-f-f-ffffire.” You chatter, before a small orb of flame builds in your hand.

The fire quickly beats back the cold, before melding into your clothes, seemingly incorporating the heat and warming you all over, even on your exposed arms and face. Thank you magic fairies.

Still…. Celes and Zidane are nowhere to be seen, nothing but frozen forest in every direction… No you can make out a few things. Off to your far left, you can see…. something bright, a fire hopefully, but on your right, past some deep snow banks, you can make out a squat little structure, built near the edge of a frozen lake.

With no other clues to go on, you call out for the others, but nothing but echoing silence comes back to you, for now.

The structure, whatever it is… it’s dark and lifeless from what you can see, but the light on the far left, that could be a fire, and the chance of a fire means finding people, maybe even Zidane or Celes. Comparing what might just be a mess of old wood to the chance to find your new friends, or even just someone willing to tell you where you are, it’s a pretty easy choice to make so far as you’re concerned.

Hugging your arms around yourself in an attempt to stave off the sensation of cold, because hey even with fire magic you’d have to be crazy to not feel chilly in this kind of weather, it’s simply a matter of putting one foot in front of the other as you make your way forward through the snow and ice.

As you follow the light through the woods, you slowly trudge between low hanging branches, ears pricked in the silence of the forest. Nothing stirs but the wind, branches creaking every so often and snow slumping to the ground.

You reach the light’s source finally, revealing it to be… a lamp post? You press a finger to it curiously, expecting steel under your finger, but on closer inspection, it’s wood. Hard and hollow, but it seems to be a tree all the same, despite the silent flame burning atop it, within a small glass chamber.

“Spooky…” You breathe, your breath fogging in the air.

Your contemplation is interrupted by a short series of snarls and panicked screaming, as a barechested man comes stumbling out of the woods, a pack of wolves hot on his... heels? No hooves.

The hoofed, hairy legged man trips in the snow, falling flat on his face. “Well, well, well goat man, looks you’ve learned to stop running.” A snarly voice snickers…. wait was that one of the wolves?

The goat man starts to crawl forwards, spotting you, he raises a hand, “Help me, please, girl, you have to help!”

Two more wolves block his path, barely sparing you a glance, “Stay out of this, this man is a wanted criminal, and we’re taking him in.” One of the wolf warns you, lips curling back to reveal his teeth, hackles raised.

Another of the wolves gives a growling laugh, “This idiot is under suspect of directly aiding humans, high treason against the Queen. Now if you don’t min-” One of the wolves turns to look at you, as two wolves hurl the little furry legged man off by the ankles. “It’s a human… a human girl! Get her.”

“Help me, please help me, you hear the little man plead as he’s dragged out of sight behind a snow bank.

The rest of the wolves are encircling you, snarling and snapping their jaws, as they surround you and the lamppost.

You step back, pressing your back against the lamp post and call your keyblade forth, as the wolves wander around you. “Your brother sold you out girly.” One of the wolves chortles, salivating, “Now we’re bringing you to face justice.”

One of the wolves leaps at you, attempting to sink his fangs into your flesh and rip whatever he can out. Instead the beast is treated to the taste of keyblade as you hold your weapon up and block his lunge, the beast howling as his teeth crunch against the shaft/ “Jokes… on you! I don’t even have a brother!” You yell at the wolf before throwing him off of your keyblade and at his allies.

The wolves snarl and rush in all at once now.

You rush forwards, swiping three of the wolves out of the air with one blow as you kick up snow behind you.

You leap over another one as it tries to jump on you, your weapon catching it in the the side of it’s ribs as it’s tossed away into the snow, howling in pain. Even more wolves seem to be pouring out of the woods now, while the largest wolf, the alpha at a guess hangs back, nodding his soldiers forwards.

While they have the advantage of being built for fighting in the snow, they still can’t keep up with your reflexes, as you duck, weave and roll out of the way of snapping jaws, each of the wolves downed with a single blow, as you break legs and feel ribs crack.

Still more pour out of the woods, as the injured ones start to limp and crawl away. Geez, how many of these things are there?

You catch another with your blade’s shaft, it’s teeth closing around the weapon, it tries to claw at you, but you boot it off again.

At the back of the crowd, you see the alpha slinking off into the trees, escaping.

There’s still easily three dozen or so wolves surrounding you though, and you can feel yourself slowing down, the rough surface of the ground, and the calf height snow are just not doing you any favours.

The ball explodes outwards in a wave of flame, sending the remaining wolves flying, throwing them into the snow or slamming against trees, they whine and whimper in pain, the majority of them down for the count with embers dancing along their pelts.

Whew…. that magic really takes it out of you…. you’re feeling tapped, can’t even summon a spark any more. The alpha rears it’s head over a snow bank one last time, “Fall back, all of you!” He growls, “I’m calling in the Lupus. Let’s see how the human likes that!”

He rears back as you catch your breath, letting out a long drawn out howl, as the wolves that are still conscious drag themselves off to lick their wounds and gain some distance from the crazy human.

Just as the alpha’s howl fades, a dark vortex appears over head, a large shadowy wolf leaping down from it, a Heartless. Surrounding it are a cluster of small Ice cubes, with little Heartless faces in their centres.

This isn’t good, you’re unable to call on any more magic, and this Heartless wolf is bigger than you are, growling as it advances.

Boy you’re really in some trouble this time…

You dart around the giant wolf, even with your stamina flagging, you’re able to dodge everything it throws at you, every slash of its’ razor sharp claws, catch every bite with your weapon, even managing to pick off a few of the little guys, but the wolf is too quick, dodging everything you throw at it. You’re exhausted, but your body is moving on reflex without your brain telling it what to do, as soon as your eyes notice an attack, you’re already dodging out of the way

You’re still not able to land a hit on the thing physically, it’s too fast, but over time, as you crush the ice guys, dodging their retaliating blasts of condensed cold, you feel your magical power slowly returning.

About time. “Fire!” You point your keyblade and blast at your foe, but it simply charges right through the ball of flame, snarling as it shoulder barges you into the snow.

You grunt as you roll back to your feet, only as a familiar shadow leaps out from the tree line, a sword flashing in it’s hand, blade crackling with electricity, as Celes swipes the beast's head from it’s shoulders with one blow, the entire creature dissolving in an explosion of black smoke, and those same blue bubbles, which gratefully soak into your skin, restoring your magical power, if not your stamina.

As you’re watching the heart that was set free by the monster’s destruction float away, your attention is suddenly taken by the blonde next to you.

“Did anyone see you?” She hisses quickly, eyes scanning the snow banks around you. The wolves have all disappeared by now, and you can no longer hear the goatman’s screams…

“Princesses?” Celes questions, “As in multiple?” That seems as good as a lead as any on what Yen Sid said, not to mention dark forces seem to be after them.

The fox is just licking a paw, watching the two of you whisper quietly with a cocked ear.

The fox seems amused by the whole affair, “And I was led to believe that humans were a civilised lot. Such a shame.” He flicks his tail and stands, “Still, no doubt someone with some brains could could find a use for all that brawn.” He motions with a paw. “Mr Beaver had a tunnel that surfaces a few miles to the east. No clue where they’re heading from there, but one can assume the two of you can follow footprints in the snow.”

Celes bows at the waist, “Thank you kind fox, we are most grateful. And if you could…. not mention our presence to any others you meet, I would be doubly in your service.”

The fox raises it’s brows and saunters off into the woods again, as the wolves on the lake disappear into the far treeline.

As soon as the creature is gone, Celes whirls around to face you, looking furious. “What’s wrong with you Vasi? You can’t simply go about threatening whoever you wish, least of all with the keyblade! You’re supposed to be a protector of light, actions like that are more in style with a creature of darkness! Just because you’ve been given powers doesn’t mean you get to abuse them!”

Just know, if you keep on acting like this, you're going to be in greater and greater risk.”

You set your jaw and stare her in the eye for a few moments, “Whatever, come on then. Yen Sid said these princesses are important.”

You turn your back on her and hurry down the hill onto the surface of the lake.

Behind you, Celes hesitates, for a long while, watching you march over the ice alone for a few minutes, before she finally hurries to catch up, staring straight ahead and refusing to look at you. You spot a frozen droplet on her cheek, and the corners of her eyes are red.

You kinda miss Zidane right about now, a joke might break the tension a little. Oh yeah… Zidane. Wonder where he wound up?
