You decide to dive below Houki and see if she can keep up with you in a game of dog fighting. Since she was accelerating, her turn was a wider than normal. Looks like she still has much to learn.

[Akatsubaki is closing in.] Reinforce prompts on your HUD.

“Looks like it's acceleration is better than I thought.” you mumble to yourself.

Next, you try weaving and looping to see how well Houki can keep up. Some of her movements are sluggish but the Akatsubaki is marvelously keeping up regardless.

[The Maeve's maneuverability slightly exceeds the Akatsubaki.] Reinforce tells you.

“Is that due to the specs or the user?” you ask Reinforce.

[Unknown. But projections put the Akatsubaki at having higher low speed maneuverability.] Reinforce answers with the next prompt.

Flying through a cloud, you slow down to see Houki's reaction. She just blasts through the cloud without hesitation, to try and catch you. You quickly evade by using a quick boost and diving down to regain your speed.

That wasn't smart Houki. That could have been a trap or letting you get close to guarantee a shot. She's far too excited to think tactically right now.

You would say something but Houki is above you and gaining speed. Looks like she wants to bounce you. Yes, bounce on top of you. Wait dammit, don't get distracted with inappropriate thoughts. You pull a quick left turn to loop around and reengage. Houki counters with an inverse Immelman turn and tries to use her speed to catch up with you.

[At this rate, Akatsubaki will catch you.] Reinforce warns you.

“Let her.” you reply.

Now that Houki is leading you on the turn, you wait for the right moment. Just before Houki enters melee range, you open up all your air brakes for a crash stop. Houki blasts past you once again letting you pursuit her once again.

Following Houki again, she tells you, “That's just like you John. You do enjoy chasing.”

“What can I say? I prefer is this way.” you reply with a smile.

“You do.” Houki says smiling.

“You made some mistakes though. Maybe next time, we should go on a date to an arcade. There should be a dog fighting game there. It would be good if I help familiarize you with some of the concepts.” you say thinking out loud.

“Tabane! What was that for?” Ms Orimura yells over the comms.

You instantly deploy Gram to your right hand and the Razor CIWS to your left. You line up the incoming missiles into your sights.

“Can you handle the minor corrections Reinforce?” you ask.

[Yes. Leave it to me.] Reinforce prompts.

“Onee-chan what are you doing?” Houki asks with a mix of surprise and shock in her voice.

“I was just removing an annoying fly that was bothering you.” Tabane replies with a rather relaxed and light tone.

“We'll take later.” Ms Orimura says over the comms for all to hear.

“Later? Perhaps in bed Chi-chan?” Tabane asks, now very excited at such an image.

[Missiles are entering optimal interception envelope.] Reinforce informs you on your HUD.

Picking up speed to maintain a good line of sight on the missiles, you fire at the leading missiles with Gram. After several missiles explode from your fire, they begin to act oddly.

[Missile velocity has increased and have begun evading your fire.] Reinforce informs you.

You open up your throttle as you keep firing on the approaching missiles. Some of the missiles use their RCS to weave and avoid your fire. The missiles are slowly being thinned out but they continue to close the gap.

“Reinforce, increase the spread on the Gram.” you tell her.

This should help counteract the missiles' evasion. Your countermeasure is quickly reducing the remaining missiles before a crescent energy wave comes crashing down on the remaining missiles. Houki must have fired off one of her attacks to help.

“Are you ok?” Houki asks as she flies closer to you.

“I'm fine. Just a little surprised. Thanks for helping me finish off the missiles.” you answer with a calm tone.

“Don't worry about that. I'm just glad you are ok.” Houki replies with a relieved tone.

Looking down on where Tabane and Ms Orimura are standing, you both see Ms Orimura holding Tabane by the scruff of the neck. Tabane is playing along enjoying the attention. You follow Houki as she beings to descend down to them. After a graceful descend, the two of you deactivate your IS' and wait for Ms Orimura.

“Shinonono, Smith. Head to your class while I take care of her.” Ms Orimura tells you.

“Take care of me? Why not nurse me all day long Chi-chan.” Tabane replies, still excited as ever.

“Not now.” Ms Orimura retorts.

“Then at night.” Tabane adds excitedly.

Before the two of you leave, Tabane asks Houki, “So did you enjoy your present Houki-chan?” with an oddly calm voice.

“I do onee-chan. Thank you.” Houki answers honestly.

“I'm glad.” Tabane replies with that same calm voice.

Ms Orimura then lets you go. You both walk back as you hear the back and forth between Tabane and Ms Orimura. If you remember correctly, right now your class will be doing some light survival training. Nothing you haven't seen before, so maybe you should take your time heading back.

You and Houki decide to head back to class. It should just be some swimming lessons for survival. Pretty basic stuff. While walking back, you notice Houki is biting her lip and slowing down until she stops walking.

“Is something the matter?” you ask as you turn to face her.

You see her bite her lip harder before opening her mouth.

“Aren't you angry about what onee-chan did?” Houki asks with a frustrated voice. “Aren't you mad at her for attacking you with those missiles?” Houki continues.

You reply with a soft smile. Houki only clenches her fists at your smile.

“No, I'm not particularly angry. Doctor Shinonono was just being jealous and protective of her cute little sister.” you reply.

Houki stands there, unsure of how to react.

“Of course she would want to be her little sister's favorite person. She was just being jealous towards me. After all, she did just give you a brand new IS.” you add.

After a pause, Houki asks, “Really? You're not angry?”

“Yes. Just attacking me with a SAM was a bit much.” you answer as you scratch your cheek. “But you did help me destroy all the incoming missiles.” you add with a smile.

Houki calms down a bit with your answer. You take her hand and undo her fist and begin walking again.

“Let's not be too late. Everyone is probably suspicious and will be shocked over the Akatsubaki.” you tell her as the two of you walk hand in hand.

Houki nods as you lead the way. You can feel her hand squeeze yours the entire way to the pool.

At the pool, you see your entire class wet in their IS uniforms. Right now, Cecilia, Charlotte and Honne along with several other classmates are floundering in the water as they hold afloat another student. Must be practice for ocean crash landings when someone is injured. On the poolside, you see the wet IS uniform cling to their bodies leaving nothing for the imagination. Every curve and subtle movement is enhanced as your classmates sit there.

“John-kun, Shononono-san, please sit with everyone else.” Ms Yamada tells you from the far side of the pool.

You and Houki both walk to the the end of where everyone is sitting and sit down. Houki sits close to as she switches her grip from your hand to the back of your IS uniform.

“Where were you two?” Sakuya asks tiredly.

“We had to deal with something that came up.” you answer.

“What was it?” Sakuya asks as she sits down next to you.

“Nothing.” Houki answers curtly as she turns her head away.

“Later, after class.” you add.

“Husband.” Laura tiredly moans out as she crawls over to you.

“What's wrong Laura?” you ask as you get a great view of Laura crawling into your lap.

Laura's wet body presses against you, not only does the water enhance the way the IS uniform clings to their body, it also enhances the way it feels. Laura tiredly leans against you as she slowly gets your lap and chest wet.

“Why weren't you here earlier? You should have partnered with me.” Laura says to you as presses against you.

You look over at Sakuya for an answer.

“Oh, that. We are practicing on keeping another person's head above water. And well, she didn't do well at all.” Sakuya explains.

“It was horrible. I was completely mismatched for this. I could barely keep my head above water the entire time.” Laura adds as she cuddles against your chest.

“That sounds tough for you Laura.” you say to soothe her.

“I'm just glad it's over now. This is unnecessary as the two of us would be unbeatable.” Laura replies confidently.

You watch as the girls in the pool staying afloat until Ms Yamada calls the class to an end. Guess this was the last group. The 8 girls tiredly get out of the pool and sit at the poolside to recover. Cecilia, Charlotte and Honne go to where the four of you are and tiredly sit next to you. The three of them are out of breath so they just breathe heavily to recover. You can't but help watch three pairs of mountains heave up and down under that villainous wet cloth. Every shutter and jostle is observed and remembered as they recover.

“That's it for now. Please take this time to recover and eat lunch.” Ms Yamada says to end class.

After her announcement, Ms Yamada comes to you and Houki.

“Did things go well with Ms Orimura and Doctor Shinonono?” Ms Yamada asks.

“Yes, things went well enough.” you answer.

“That's good to hear. I hope there wasn't too many problems.” Ms Yamada replies before leaving to check on the other students.

“What did Yamada-sensei mean about Doctor Shinonono?” Cecilia asks, still slightly out of breath.

Houki slightly tenses up at the question. Just how are you going to explain things?

A few more minutes later, you help everyone onto their feet and head back to your rooms. You change into something more conformable and wait for everyone else. Houki and Laura were the first to meet up with you. Charlotte and Cecilia follow, still looking a bit tired. You find a table next to where Honne, Yuzu and Sakuya were eating.

“Where were you two? You were gone for pretty much the entire class?” Charlotte asks, slightly concerned.

“There was that large crash that happened before lunch. Were you involved in that?” Laura asks.

“Get in trouble again?” Rin asks as she takes the last seat at the table.

“No I didn't.” you answer quickly.

“So why did Yamada-sensei mentioned sometihng about Orimura-sensei and Doctor Shinonono. Would that have something to do with you Houki?” Cecilia asks while looking at her.

“That large crash earlier was caused by Doctor Shinonono dropping in.” you answer.

“The Doctor Tabane Shinonono? The creator of Infinite Stratos and one of the most wanted scientists on the planet?” Cecilia asks, surprised to hear Tabane's name.

“And she just drops by for Houki's birthday?” Charlotte asks, trying to connect everything together.

Houki gives an affirmative nod.

“And my help was required, so I was brought along.” you add.

Houkie gives another nod in agreement.

“That still doesn't explain that crash. And why you were gone for so long.” Laura questions.

“Well, you know that Doctor Shinonono created IS', right? Well, Doctor Shinonono's present for Houki was a new IS, Akatsubaki. And she just happened to crash in.” you answer.

Every table around you goes silent. Before erupting into a mix of “EHHH?!” and “WHAT?!”. After everyone got that out of their systems, they look at Houki. Who then holds out her left hand with the deactivated Akatsubaki on it.

“No fair!” Rin complains rather loudly.

“And you just asked for it?” Charlotte asks, completely in awe of the situation.

“Yes.” Houki answers with a low, slightly nervous tone.

“That's no fair at all.” Rin continues to complain.

“That is the power of connections.” Cecilia comments calmly.

“What is that suppose to mean?” Rin asks indignantly.

“Knowing the right people can get you what or where you need. It's only natural that the little sister of Doctor Shinonono would be able to acquire an IS.” Cecilia explains.

“It's still not fair.” Rin replies with a rather sour tone.

“Life never was.” Cecilia adds somewhat coldly.

Not liking where things are heading, you decide to change the mood.

“It would be great if you can help Houki with it.” you ask.

“I don't mind. After all, we've all helped each other with things before.” Charlotte replies.

“What sort of help?” Cecilia inquires.

“Houki needs a lot of help with dog fighting.” you answer.

“But you said you would teach me on our date.” Houki says meekly.

“That's still going to happen. Just think of it as getting inside info on me.” you reply with a smile.

“What are the capabilities of the Akatsubaki?” Laura asks after being quiet the entire time.

Houki begins to explain the Akatsubaki's capabilities while you all wait for lunch. Apparently there were still some features not used by Houki. An energy blade on each foot along with two melee type bits. You ask her why you didn't see it before and Houki answers that they use a fold out armor system. She couldn't explain more than that other than it costs shield energy to use.

Lunch comes and goes. The 6 of you head back to Cecilia's room to relax. Honne, Yuzu and Sakuya decide to take a nap while you all talk. While you are all talking about Houki's new IS, you get an emergency message from Reinforce.

[Incoming emergency message.] Reinforce displays over your deactivated Maeve.

“Reinforce what sort of emergency message?” you ask as you hold up the deactivated Maeve wristband.

[Unknown. I did not even know this type of comm line was available.] Reinforce answers.

“What is the message saying?” you ask as everyone else is looking at the holodisplay.

[Audio line connected.] the next prompt reads.

“Hello?” you ask, not sure what is going on.

“John? John, I need you help.” a familiar voice calls out to you.

It takes you a second to remember, but that voice is Natasha Fairs. A fellow candidate representative for the US.

“What's wrong Natahsa?” you ask.

“It's my IS. It's gone berserk and I can't deactivate it.” Natasha answers you as static starts to eat away at the signal.

“Aren't you in Hawaii right now?” you ask, trying to remember the content of the last message she left you.

“I'm heading west now I think.” Natasha answers as more of her voice is being eaten away by the static.

“You think? Just what is going on?” you ask, trying to get more info on the situation.

“It went berserk while I was piloting it. I'm still inside my IS.” were the last words Natasha said before the static completely ate away at her voice and ending the line.
