Your name is Ishida Uryu, five years old.
And you’re proud to say you’re the smartest five-year-old you know!

“I have no intention of teaching Uryu a thing. And with all due respect, neither should you, Father.” Was that your Dad talking? And… your grandfather? You place your ear up close to the door, trying to listen in.

“Ryuuken, do you honestly believe you can hide him from the world forever? He needs to be able to protect himself-“

“Hollows will attack him if and only if he develops his powers to the point where he will be noticeable.”

“He is already noticeable, Ryuuken. Surely you cannot deny this? He has ability! With some guidance, he could easily-“

“Ability? I do not recall you using such meaningless words to describe him even a scant few years ago.”

“…I was mistaken. I will admit that. But if Uryu will not learn, then who, Ryuuken? Will you simply allow the ancient line of Ishida, which stretches back towards even the Emperor himself, to die?”

“I have already given you my answer, Father.” Your father says, stiff as ever.

“I suppose you have.” There is a long, drawn-out sigh. Then, “Well then, Uryu, what about you? What do you think of this mess?” Your eyes widen as the door opens, and you look up at the intimidating visage of your father.

“Uryu,” he begins, an exasperated look on his face, “It’s hours past curfew. What are you doing still up?”

“Er…” you begin.
…What WERE you doing still up?

“I was just reading those books you got me for my birthday. They were all really interesting!” You say, smiling. “I was just coming down for a glass of water, but I heard you two talking…” You trail off, unsure of how to approach the subject.

From what you could tell, your father and grandfather were arguing about your Quincy training. You know for a fact that it’s important to your grandfather and that your father doesn’t want you to go through with it, but you don’t get any of the details.

Unfortunately, your father takes the choice to talk out of your hands, and picks you straight up. “Come then, Uryu, let’s get that glass of water. Then you head straight back to bed, yes?” You mumble out a few words of agreement.

Eh. You can think about your future later, you think. You’re only five years old, after all.

At night, you Dream as you always do. You don’t quite feel your body, but you don’t quite not feel it, either…

And then, the world Shifts.

It’s strange. You’ve had dreams like this for as long as you can remember.

You see nothing but an infinite desert all around you. Occasionally, you can hear the soft murmurs of people behind you, but whenever you look back, you see nothing. It makes you a little sad; you don’t have much interaction with other children your age, and even if none of them are as smart as you are, it would still be nice to have a friend or two.

At any rate, as always, you begin walking forward. Where you’re going, you don’t know, but you have a feeling that eventually, you’ll find something, anything.

You don’t know how long you walked that unending desert. Seconds, minutes, even hours, all seem to blend together. You don’t know if you’ll ever reach whatever destination there is to be found here, either…

You feel your steps begin to slow, your will begin to waver, your frustration build. Is there really nothing out here? Will there continue to be nothing, regardless of what you do?

Perhaps you should just stop and lie down… forever…

If this body can create a tomorrow _____,I will gladly give it.

An electric shock runs down your spine. Was that a voice? Who was it? Could there be someone out here besides you?

You bolt upwards, frantically looking around, straining your ears to hear something, anything, to prove you aren’t just going crazy in your own head.

Needless to say, your efforts are fruitless.
However, you’re certain that you had heard a voice just then, far, far clearer than you had ever heard any other.

You’ll keep on walking. You’re not just gonna give up like that.
***

“Uryu? Wake up…” Says a soft voice at the foot of your bed. You groan in response. It’s too early…

“It’s an hour past breakfast Uryu. Wake up.”
You twist around, firmly planting your face in your pillow.

With surprising strength, the owner of the voice lifts you up out of bed, a trail of saliva following over from where you had attempted to escape the torment that was simply known as ‘waking up.’

Obviously, your father’s rather busy with work in the morning so it can’t be him…

You squint as your eyes slowly adjust to the brightness, and after opening them, you see that…

>Your mother, as always, had been the one to wake you up today.
>Your grandfather had been the one to rouse you from sleep, instead.

Your mother sighed as she placed you back on the bed. “Have I ever told you just how similar you are to your father, Uryu? I remember when we were younger; he always slept in too.”

Your grandfather chuckles from his place at the doorway. “That he did. He only slept in when he was certain he was close to a breakthrough, however.” At this your Grandfather shoots you a Look, and you immediately scratch your head, ashamed. “You on the other hand-“

“That’s enough, Ishida-sama. I’m sure Uryu’s learned his lesson now, right?” You nod your head vigorously. “Good. Now come along, Uryu. Breakfast is cold by now.”

***
Your mother and grandfather idly talk about various topics such as the weather, some person named Masaki you’ve never heard about, your father’s job. You immediately tune them out, focusing on your breakfast.

After rinsing your dishes, you head back to the kitchen table, which has grown strangely quiet.
“Well,” says your mother breaking the pause, “I suppose that now that Uryu’s done…”

“Uryu,” says Grandfather, cutting her off, “How do you feel about beginning your Quincy training early? Don’t worry about the consequences, just answer honestly.”

“I’d love to!” You say honestly. “I want to be the best Quincy ever! Better than Dad, even!” You’d only heard stories from your grandfather, but apparently your father was one of the most talented Quincies ever. “Um, I do have a few questions, though, if that’s okay.”

Grandfather nods, smiling. “Of course, Uryu. Feel free to ask whatever you’d like.”

“Well, first. About Dad. Why doesn’t he want me to learn? I mean, you’ve told me that Dad started really early, and I hear a lot about him, so he has to be really good, right? But then, why-?”

“Uryu.” Says your grandfather, cutting you off. “Your father’s resistance to you learning is, ah, complicated. Uryu, has your father ever told you about the ‘White’ Incident?” You shake your head. “About what I expected, then.
Suffice it to say that above all, your father only wishes to protect you, which is the main reason he refuses to show you anything related to the ‘other’ world. Is there anything else?” Your father? Trying to protect you? Strange way he has of showing it, then.

“Well, I did have another question. When I was um, getting my water last night, I heard you and Dad talking about some Emperor guy. Who’s he?”
(1/2)
>>
>>41752242

The room stills, and you feel as if you’d said something you shouldn’t have. Your mother suddenly clenches her hand on your shoulder. Hard. “Ishida-sama. I apologize if I am speaking out of turn. However, I must insist on asking you as to where Uryu learned of the… Emperor.” Your mother spits out the last word, as if it tasted bitter in her mouth.

Your grandfather simply sighs at your mother’s outburst. “Kanae, it was merely an accident. Uryu was just mishearing things.”

“Mishearing things?” Asks your mother, deadly quiet. “To speak of the Emperor is no accident Ishida-sama. Uryu doesn’t need to learn of long-lost fairy tales. Especially not that one.”

Your grandfather frowns at the words ‘fairy tale.’ “Kanae, it is an integral part of the Quincy ideology-“

“I would dare say it is not-”

You’re not entirely sure what you said that’s gotten your mother and grandfather arguing, but you are certain that it has something to do with this Emperor person, whoever he is.

Regardless, it seems you aren’t going to be involved in the conversation for a while longer, unless you’re willing to interrupt both your mother and grandfather.

You don’t think that needling answers out of your mom and grandfather so soon is such a good idea. Instead, you raise your voice a little, saying, “I’m really sorry if I said something I wasn’t supposed to. I was just curious. P-please don’t argue.” You immediately pull out your ‘secret weapon.’ “U-um, I’m not in t-trouble, am I?” You sniff, rubbing away the fake tears.

At that, the two adults close their mouths, their argument ended in favor of looking at you in concern. Your mother immediately sweeps you up from your chair, hugging you close. "Oh, Uryu. No, of course you aren’t in trouble. It’s just, there are some things you don’t need to know about until a little later. Right, Ishida-sama?” Your mother shoots a glance at your grandfather, who finally nods in acquiescence.

Your mother smiles back down at you. “See, Uryu? It’s okay. Your grandfather and I just have our… differences. Every family has those.” You nod, and after scrubbing away the somewhat-fake tears you fidget around, slipping out of your mother’s grasp.

“Um, do you mind if I ask a few questions, now?” Your grandfather gestures to go on.
(1/?)
>>
>>41753033
“Okay. Um, I really do want to start Quincy training soon. No one’s told me being one actually means, though. Are you going to just teach me how to make my bow and arrows? What about magic? I thought Quincies use some form of magic to beat Hollows.”

“Mhmm. You would be correct, Uryu. There are multiple ways in which Quincies use our esoteric abilities to dispatch of Hollows. Our bows and arrows and the various techniques we use with them is one. Our ‘magic’, the art of Zauberkunde, is another, normally activated through the usage of silver vials.

“There are others, of course, but those two will be the primary ones you will learn in your training.”

You nod in understanding. “Okay. Second: Where, exactly, will I be training?”

Your grandfather points out one of the windows. “To be sure that we aren’t interrupted, we will be practicing on a remote part of the Ishida estate, far from the city and house itself. We will be staying there for anywhere from days to even weeks at a time, so you will have to bring some clothing and bedding with you.”

”So it’ll be like a long camping trip?” You ask. Your grandfather nods back. “Okay then. Third, how long does the training normally last?”

Your grandfather lets out a breath of air. “In truth, Uryu, I am unsure. While I do have some experience teaching, their circumstances were remarkably-” your grandfather glances at your mother, though you don’t know why, “-different from your own. You could take significantly longer than Ryuuken did; just make sure that you remember that.”

Longer? Why would you take longer than your father? Is he just that good, or is it something else? You’d like some answers, but you doubt you’re going to get them right now.

“Alright. One last question: When do we start?” You ask, an eager smile on your face.
(2/3)
>>
>>41753067
“Not quite now, Uryu. Perhaps in a year or so?”

“Awwww…” You mumble, dejected.

Your grandfather leans over, ruffling your hair. “I wouldn’t dare train you right now, Uryu. You’re still far too young, even by a Quincy’s standards. Your father began when he was seven, after all.”

“And how long did it take him to finish?” You ask, curious.

“Around four years, give or take a few weeks. It’s been so long.” Your grandfather scratches his beard in thought.

Four years, huh? You bet you could beat that! Besides, how hard could it possibly be?

You think for a second. “Well, what about you Grandfather? How long did it take you to finish your training?” At this, your Grandfather snorts in amusement.

“Me? Oh, it took me about eight years. I was neither hard-working, like my parents were, and nor was I naturally skilled, unlike your father. Those were some of the most boring days of my life; my mother was an absolute slave-driver.” He looks down at you. “I’m sure I won’t have any of those kinds of problems from you, no?”

You shake your head. “Of course not Grandfather! I want to be the best Quincy I can be.”

Grandfather smiles at that. “I’m sure you can do whatever you put your mind to Uryu. Anything else?”

You’re about to shake your head no when one last thought pops into your mind. “What about you, Mom? You’re a Quincy, right? Did you have to do any special training?”

Surprisingly, your mother shakes her head. “I didn’t exactly have access to the same resources your father and grandfather did, Uryu. Though if I must say so myself, I’m certain I could fell any Hollows that dare to invade our property.” Your mother didn’t get special training like your dad did? That’s news to you. Suddenly, your mother picks you back up, holding you by your arms.

“I believe that’s enough questions for now, Ishida-sama. I’m sure that Uryu can ask you any other questions he may have tomorrow.” You open your mouth to protest, but close it back up when you realize you don’t really have any more questions to ask anyway.

Your Grandfather nods his assent, smiles at you one more time, and stalks off to his room.
Afterwards, you…

Something along those lines at least. In any case, we're probably going to at least get something out of those books, even if it is just terminology that will help us down the road, or general organ placements. That's more than almost any other five year old can say. I'm kinda interested to see how we'll use this information, since it's unlikely that we'll be training to hit vital points anytime soon. Even with Shinigami, they only have two supernatural ones in the torso, though Uryu probably won't know that.

Still, your father must have given these books to you for a reason. Thus, you’re going to study them, even if it kills you.

>>
>>41754393
Well, if you’re going to be honest with yourself, you’re really struggling with those medical textbooks your father had given you. And the person who gave them to you is in the house, so…

You stealthily move through the house; it’s a game you made up a while ago because you were bored. You had figured out that half of the floor squeaked when you stepped on it in the wrong way, and it’s been your goal to be able to slink around the house completely silently.

Creak

Unfortunately, you aren’t very good at it.
At any rate, after a quick flight up the stairs, you walk over to where you father’s study is, only to find that his door was left ajar. You peer in, curious.

From what you can tell, your father is writing something that looks like a letter. It’s probably nothing important, but just in case, you rap on the door.

Your father glances over at you, then gestures for you. You comply, walking over to his desk.
After finishing off what remained of the letter, he turns to you, expression unwaveringly neutral. “Well? Did you need something, Uryu?”

Sometimes, you hate how in-control your father always is. It makes him feel distant.

Nonetheless, you slide your books out from under your arms, asking him to give you a hand since you can’t seem to figure anything out past the first so-and-so chapters.

Thankfully, your earnest expression seems to have warmed him up a little. The fact that you aren’t asking Quincy related probably helped too, since you could just barely see the ghost of a smile as he nods and bends down, placing you on his lap.

You reach out to the green cloth with you senses, ‘grasping’ it it with your non-existent fingers.

Don't underestimate us…

Force your way down a path YOU choose to take, and do it all yourself! That's the way __________ rolls!

You feel a strange… falling… sensation. Oddly enough, it’s almost pleasant. No, scratch that, it’s better than just pleasant. You feel great!
Blinking open your eyes, you find that you’re stuck in that same endless desert again. This time, though, you have a guide. Reaching out with your sixth sense, you’re surprised to find that your spiritual signature is everywhere.

That won’t stop you, though. Straining your senses, you feel an incredible amount of pressure from somewhere out to your left.
You dash off, chasing after the feeling.
***

You don’t know how long you run for. Neither do you feel any sort of tiredness come over you as it once did. Instead, you only feel that strange, suffocating pressure grow more and more.
In time, the sky begins to darken. You run some more.

The pressure almost feels like it’s crushing your lungs. You continue running.

A massive… SOMETHING appears on the horizon, taller and wider than any skyscraper you’d ever seen. You run faster into its direction.

Finally, you arrive. And after taking a long, long, look, you realize that the huge SOMETHING was in fact a massive, humanoid golem of some sort.

The pressure disappeared a while back. For whatever reason, you aren’t sure. All you know is that this thing is important. Important how, you aren’t sure, but you have a feeling that you’re going to find out sooner or later.

Hah! Yeah, right. As if you’d stop NOW.
You ran all the way over here past a stupid-huge desert, running to some unknown destination for as long as you can remember.

You’re not gonna let yourself stop now!
Rubbing your hands, you begin by hoisting yourself up onto the giant golem’s-

Gunmen

-Gunmen’s foot. You grunt in exertion, inching yourself up. When you finally manage to get on top after a few minutes of pushing up, you sigh, and lean against the leg for support.

After a few minutes’ rest you set yourself back to work.
***

“Ow!”

You scowl up at the huge Gunmen’s face. That was like the fourth time you had fallen off! Maybe you should just-

LET'S SEE YOU GRIT! THOSE! TEETH!!

Yeah, no. Giving up? NOT. HAPPENING.
You grit your teeth, and leaping towards the massive leg, begin inching yourself up again.
You’re going to stay here for as long as it takes you to climb up this Gunmen, and nothing’s going to stop you!

>Earned Trait: Stubborn
>You’re more stubborn than a mule. When you set your mind on something, you are NEVER going to let go.
***

You shudder against the cold metal of the Gunmen, finding solace against the abrasive wind. A sudden sandstorm had kicked itself up a while ago, and sand was getting everywhere, even places you didn’t know you had!

That doesn’t matter in the least though. You’re still gonna climb this Gunmen, whatever the consequences!

You take another gasping breath, and scoot yourself up another inch. There’s no sense in wasting time- you have quite a while to go, after all.
***
(1/2)
>>
>>41756375

Everything aches. Your limbs ache from holding you up, your skin is sore from being blasted by sand for what feels like hours, and your brain is bored out of its mind.

Still, you did it. After what felt like an eternity, you made it. You made it to the very top of the Gunmen. The pressure you felt before is back in spades, but it feels almost ‘comforting’ as if congratulating you on a job well done.

To be honest, the top itself isn’t very impressive. It’s mostly made of a flat, featureless metal. The most interesting part is easily the cockpit, which you find in the middle.

It has only two handles for steering. However, that isn’t what catches your eye.
No, what you find most interesting is the strange spiral pattern in the very middle of the dashboard. It appears to be completely empty.
…You have no idea what to do here.

You snap your fingers in realization. Of course! You’re a Quincy! And Quincies can manipulate Reishi! Logically, if this huge Gunmen appeared in your dream-world/consciousness then it’s most likely some sort of device that needs Reishi channeled into it to work!

Congratulating yourself on your logical deduction, you step into the cockpit-you can’t help but notice that it was probably designed for someone much taller than you- and place your palm onto the spiral pattern…

Only to remember you have no clue how to channel or control Reishi. Well, it can’t be THAT hard, can it?

Breathing deeply, you reach around using your sixth sense, this time feeling the strange ‘stuff’ that pervades the air. That’s Reishi, right?

You grasp onto it, and YANK.

You hear a soft hum from under you. The strange spiral figure seems to have filled up a small sliver, before immediately dropping back down again.

You narrow your eyes, smirking. Heh. Now you’ve got it. All you have to do is keep trying…

You grunt in exertion, Reishi collapsing into your palms. You crush and grind it, feeding it into the gunmen, growling as you carefully watch the spiral-shaped meter begin to go up and up…

And then, it just stops. You aren’t sure why, either! You’re certain you were pumping in as much Reishi as you could. Why won’t it go up?

s__n

You’d been seeing these dreams for as long as you could remember. From the time you could tottle along you’d been walking that desert in your dreams. You won’t give up now, not ever.

SP__

What are you doing WRONG!?

SPIN!

What was that? Spin?

You glance back at the strange, glowing spiral. Spin…?

You feel out using your sixth sense one last time. Instead of grasping at the ambient Reishi, you instead take hold of the strange pressure that’s been hounding you, bringing it closer.
And then, you screw it in, spinning it like a drill.

“SPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNN-” Ohgodwhatisthisitfeelsamazing!
“OOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNN!” YOUFEELLIKEYOUCANTAKEONTHEWORLD
***

For the first time in a long, long time, you dream not of an endless desert, but of other people- no, not people. Spirals.

But then, which spiral specifically do you dream of?

Deep below the earth, beyond the Gates of Hell, countless Giants stop their every movement, if only for a second, to ponder the coming of a new Master.

Across the deserted wasteland of Hueco Mundo, countless beasts perk their heads up in curiosity as a great weapon slowly whirs to life.

And finally, in a dimension accessible only to the chosen few, the King opens His eyes, a decade earlier than He had foreseen He would.

“-yu… Uryu…”
Your eyes flicker open at the sound of your name. Flicking your gaze around, you find that you’re once more in your room. When had you…?

“Uryu! Thank God you’re safe!” Your mother says, fiercely hugging you. You blink at the damp spot in your shirt. “You had been out for so long,” she whispered, “we’d thought you’d managed to hurt yourself somehow.”

“I-I’m fine Mom, I was just-“

“Just nothing,” she says fiercely, “Your father and I have decided that you are not to practice Reiatsu sensing again at least until your next birthday.”

Your eyes widen at that. “But-“

“No, means no, Uryu.” Your father says, suddenly appearing at the doorway.

“F-father-?”

“You were out for three entire days from Reiryoku exhaustion. I have no idea what you did to yourself, but all three of us- your mother, your Grandfather, and I- have all decided that it would be best you try nothing Quincy-related until we are certain your body has managed to shake off most of the effects completely.” He walks inside of your room, sitting down by the bedside.

“I-but- w-wait-“ You stammer out, trying to take control of the conversation.

“I most of all, must apologize to you, Uryu.” Rasps your Grandfather as he walks in himself. He suddenly looks a hundred years older. “I pushed you when it was clear you simply couldn’t handle it quite yet. If it weren’t for the fact that your father was at home, I am afraid of what would have happened…”

You stare at the three of them, desperately scrambling your brain for something to say.

“I-erm-well-uh…” You stammer out. “Well, I guess that’s not supposed to happen, is it?”

“No.” Your father says instantly. “At most, you should have been seeing your and our Spirit Ribbons. There is no possible way you could have been able to tire out your Reiryoku to such an extent, unless-“ Your father shoots a glance at your Grandfather, “-someone decided to push you farther than he said he would.”

You manage to reply before Grandfather can retort, “But that really IS all I did. Well, I guess I did that one thing, but I didn’t think it would be all too hurtful…”

“…Uryu.” Says your father, his voice surprisingly full of emotion now, “What, precisely, did you do that you thought would not be so hurtful.”

“Well,“ You begin, “I was looking at everyone’s Spirit Ribbons, but it was a little hard to see my own since I don’t have much Reiatsu naturally. So I went and brought it up, like how you all taught me to.

“But the strange thing was,” you say, gesticulating wildly, “my Spirit Ribbon was Green, rather than white like every other humans’. I decided to check it out myself, so I sort of ‘grasped’ at it and, um, I guess I must have fallen asleep because I had this really vivid dream.”

“Tell us everything Uryu. What was this dream like? Did you see anything in it? Hollows? Other Quincies? Shinigami?”

You frown. “No, nothing like that. Well, I saw this really big Gunmen but-“

“Gunmen? Did someone try to shoot you, Uryu?” Your mother asks, panicked.

“What? No, not a GunMAN, a GunMEN. It’s like, this… really, really big… Robot? I don’t think that’s exactly the right word, but it’s the closest I’ve got.”

>>

“So you found this massive robot in your dream. And that’s all?” Your father presses on.

“No, that’s not all. Um, I guess I sort of climbed up the Gunmen. Like, all the way to the top. It was really huge, so it took me a long time, but I definitely did it!” You smile in pride at your accomplishment.

No one else seems nearly as enthused.

“I…see.” Your father sighs. “What next? After you climbed this…Gunmen?”

“Well, there was this small cockpit at the top. I didn’t know what to do at that point, but I figured I needed to power it somehow. So after a while I gathered up some of the Dream-Reishi and pushed it into the Gunmen, but that stopped working after a certain point.

You look down, thinking. “After that, I was really stumped, but then, I got the idea that I needed to SPIN the Gunmen to power it! For good measure, I used that other stuff that was everywhere besides Reishi, and spun that in too. It gets kind of fuzzy after that, though.” You look up, smiling as you finish your story.

You are immediately met by the skeptical faces of your family. “Hey, all of that really happened!” You protest. “I swear!”

Your mother sighs. “I’m sure it did, Uryu. Look, why don’t you head back to bed? We have some ‘adult’ things to discuss.”

You are quickly left alone after your family departs. You can faintly hear the soft sounds of discussion in the next room over, but it’s too indistinct for you to make anything out.

Nice

Quick question, would the mystery box option be more or less restrictive with cannon events than the adjuchas option? Not necessarily with forcing outcomes, but allowing events in the bleach plot to occur naturally without absence or substitute, keeping a quest 'cannon' can have different meanings depending on the person so some clarification before we lock in would be nice.
>>
What no arrancar option where the story looks totally normal but it infact changes when the story goes ressurecion.
>>
>>41760444
An arrancar quest might be cool, but I'm worried it would end up too much like Hollow Quest.
>>
>>41760415
The Difficulties are basically each different timelines. A few things happened differently in the past for each of them, so certain people will almost certainly be a tad different from how they were in canon. The farther you are from Gillian mode, the more changes.

The Difficulty is mostly only higher because then the players can't metagame or predict outcomes nearly as easily.

Sorry if this doesn't help; I wasn't able to parse out your post.
>>
>>41760543
That's okay, it clarifies what you meant, and with that I feel confident in the adjuchas option
