You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

With the ceremony completed, Galloway has pledged it's support to the Crusade. In the celebrations that came after, you spent most of your time with Erika, who wasn't too happy about being forced to stay for the party. As the party came to a close though, someone arrived looking for Daniel and you were asked to go with him. You brought Erika with you, since she knew Daniel better than you, and found Daniel drinking by himself on one of the palace balconies. You learned a lot about Daniel after that, about his old feelings for Charlotte, about why he became a priest, and why he came to the White Watchtower. You and Erika listened to him, then once Daniel was feeling better you both went back to bed. The trip back to the Red Watchtower starts tomorrow.

Flare!

Right, guess I should have listed that first.

Available spells:
Elemental bolt - Ranged elemental spell attack.
Ethereal Body - Body becomes ethereal for a short time, allowing you to travel through solid objects
Force Sphere - Creates a protective sphere of force around you
Telekinesis - Allows you to manipulate objects from afar, including throwing them at enemies or pulling them away from enemies.
Teleportation - Allows for longer ranged teleportation. Requires familiarity with the destination. Potential risk of landing off course
Ironskin - Caster's skin becomes hard as iron, providing physical protection.

Elemental Bolt
Ironskin

I think we need the mix of damage and defense. It's by the grace of QM that we haven't faced something with extreme physical resistance, so I'd like some magic to throw at people in emergencies.
Iron skin seems better than force sphere because it's a personal use and it's persistent where as sphere is short term (albeit much better for that time)

As for the other level up options - Avoid them until we have the basics out of the way. We need to cover our bases before we start specializing.

>Elemental Bolt – Throw an elemental projectile at your enemies. This bolt may be a fireball, icicle, lightning bolt, acid arrow, etc.
>Force Sphere – Creates a protective sphere of force around the target This sphere will last for 6 turns, or until broken through. Sphere moves with target.

Everyone from the watchtower is now waiting at the city gate, saddling up their horses and finishing any last second preparations before the trip starts. Daniel is now back to normal for the most part, save for a bad hangover. The first day of this trip is going to be pretty rough for him, but you don't have time to waste. Galloway has now pledged their support, but that still leaves Belmore.

Reinhardt seems to be in a great mood this morning. Weird, since he usually hates mornings. You ask him about it at some point, but he responds by saying “It's nothing” with a stupid grin on his face. He does tell you that he's going to be putting more effort into training from now on for when the Crusade starts. You just scratch your head, wondering what on earth got into him. You don't have time to dwell on it too long though, as Geoffrey and Celia Lione show up unexpectedly, bringing horses with them.

“Are you two heading somewhere?” You ask when they approach.

“Hopefully, yes.” Geoffrey answers

“What do you mean?”

“After some discussion with my sister, we've both come here to offer our services in your honor guard.”

“What? Why?” You ask. You remember reading that it used to be a tradition for House Lione to serve in the Champion's honor guard, but that tradition was made non-mandatory after Andras' crusade. You wouldn't of been surprised had it been just Geoffrey offering, but Celia as well? Even now, she seems a little sour to see you.

“We decided that if a new Crusade is coming, then we will both be more useful out there, helping fight the forces of Malaphas then back here, fighting in tournaments for the sole sake of entertainment.”

“In that case, why not just join the Watchtower?”

“While the soldiers of the Watchtowers all have important roles to fill, we feel we would be able to best contribute to the Crusade by fighting at the Champion's side, as our family has for generations.”

“Are you sure you want to do that? Both of you?” You ask, looking in Celia's direction.

“I go where my brother goes.” Celia responds, arms crossed. “If he wishes to fight at the Champion's side, then I will too.”

>>
>>41738592
Follows the oldest male's line, though if there are no living males then it goes to the oldest female.

The Lione family won't die out even if both were to die though. They have uncles, aunts, etc. who would become head of house if both were to die.
>>
>>41738468

Are they the only two of House Lione's line? If so, one of them has to stay.

Also, to Celia say this "Listen, I know that you're a little cross about our last fight. But here, let me tell you something."

And then whisper in her ear," I fucking owned you. I don't doubt for a second I could take you again. If you ever want a challenge I'll fucking take you like a green recruit in need of a whoopin. It's here whenever you want it".

And then welcome them both.

Your a bit hesitant, but you can't deny that both of them would be valuable allies. You may have to do something about Celia's attitude at some point though.

"Alright. If both of you are sure then I'd be glad to have you both aboard."

You shake hands with both of them. You notice Celia puts more strength into her grip than Geoffrey, but you ignore it. With everyone now saddled up and ready to go, you exit the city gates and ride for the Red Watchtower.

---------
A few days pass, and you can see the Red Watchtower on the horizon once again. The guards announce your arrival and open the portcullis to let you in.

"The White and Grey Watchtower captains are ready to speak with you whenever your ready, sir." One of the guards informs you on the side.

Well, today's the day. All three of the watchtower captains are here, today you'll have to tell them about Leviathan and Aleria and convince them to accept their help. You're in for a long, hard talk with them, if there's anything you need to do before then you'd best do it now.

"Tell the captains to assemble, we'll start the meeting immediately.

"Yes sir."

You groan, this is going to be a looooong meeting. 'I don't suppose Mind Link will let you talk to people other than me, will it?' You ask Galadriel weakly.

'It should, yes.'

You perk up. 'Wait, really?'

'Yes. I am normally not able to communicate with people other than my Champion simply because I can only establish a mental link between myself and my champion. If you establish your own mental link with others, however, I will be indiractly linked to them and thus be able to communicate telepathically, although I may sound distant to them.'

Damn, that makes things a little easier. They might be a little more willing to listen if Galadriel speaks on your behalf. There's still no guarantee though.

Your outlook now somewhat brightened, you look for Aleria and pull her aside, letting her know that the meeting concerning her and Leviathan will be starting soon.

'Very well then. I shall go with you.' Leviathan responds.

'Are you sure that's a good idea? No telling what they'll do when they know a shard of a Demon Lord is in the room.'

'They could not hurt me even if they tried. Besides, I should be there to speak for myself. They may not believe you otherwise.'

That is true, most people wouldn't believe you if you just told them you found a shard of a Demon Lord's soul sealed in a belt down in the Red Watchtower Archives without any proof.

"Should I go too?" Aleria asks.

'You would be taking a risk in doing so, Aleria. You're not as difficult to destroy as I am.'

"Maybe, but I figure if they're going to know about me I might as well be there to defend myself too."

Knight-Captains, when I was last, here, in the Red Tower, I encountered a powerful and useful potential ally, that could greatly aid us during the coming crusade. Once I reveal this new potential ally, I am certain several of you will question this ally's loyalty, which is why I have delayed accepting their aid until I could get all of your input and hopefully acceptance of their aid. As to the loyalty of this new potential ally, I, myself, have some doubts, but I believe see can trust her as long as both our goal, and hers align.

"If you're sure. Just be careful, and don't say anything that'll give the captains a bad impression."

"Didn't plan on it."

-------
Taking a deep breath, you turn the doorknob leading to the private meeting room the guard showed you to and enter. A large round table sits in the middle of the room, and three figures sit around it. Knight-Captain Laurentius, leader of the White Watchtower in Iseria. Knight-Captain Arnault, leader of the Red Watchtower in Galloway. The last you don't recognize, but with only one watchtower left you guess that he is the Knight-Captain of the Grey Watchtower. Laurentius is dressed in white robes bearing the White Watchtower's heraldry, and carries only the sword on his belt. Arnault is wearing the same plate armor and strange hat you saw him wearing the first day you arrived at the Red Watchtower, and has no weapons with him. The last knight-captain, a very stern looking man with black hair, a full beard, and an aggravated frown on his face, is wearing a strange set of iron armor. Behind him, a tattered green cloak and animal furs are lying on the ground. He has a sword sheathed on one side of his belt, and on the other is a mace with a nasty looking spike curving up from the bottom of the handle.

"There he is. Welcome Siegfried, I trust your trip here was peaceful?"

"It was peaceful enough, thank you." You answer, taking a seat at the table.

"Good to hear. If I may ask though, why is one of my subordinates here with us? I was under the assumption this meeting would be between the four of us."

"She's involved in what I've called this meeting to discuss." You tell him.

"I see...and just what is it we're here to discuss then?"

"Better be important." The Grey Watchtower captain grumbles. "I didn't come all the way down here to enjoy the sights."

"Knight-Captains, I believe I may have found someone who may prove to be a powerful ally to us in the coming crusade. However, I feel you should all have a say in the matter, as said ally is a bit...unconventional."

"Unconventional?" Captain Arnault asks. "What do you mean by unconventional? And who is this ally exactly?"

"There's a bit of a story to that." You explain. "During my last stay here at the Red Watchtower, I was brought down into the tower Archives, where a group of traitors hiding amongst the tower's ranks ambushed me."

"What?!" Captain Arnault shouts. "When did this happen? I've heard no word from the archive guards of anyone going in or out of the archives. Why didn't you say something earlier?"

"There's was a reason." You assured him, continuing your sentence. "While I was attacked in the archives, I was assisted in defeating the traitors who tried to ambush me by someone who now wants to assist us in our crusade."

"You still haven't told us who that person is." Captain Aleksander says warily.

And now here's where everything gets difficult. You look back to Aleria, who hands you the belt that holds Leviathan's soul. You place it on the table, and the belt's appearances changes from that of a normal leather belt to it's normal, green scaled appearance.

"Do you recognize this belt, Captain Arnault?"

The Red Watchtower captain looks at it quizzically. "No, I've never seen this belt before. Why?"

"I found this belt at the bottom of the tower archives, where the traitors ambushed me. It holds a shard of the Demon Lord Leviathan's soul."

The room goes dead silent. The watchtower captains stare at the belt, lying lifeless on the table, then back to you.

"Siegfried, I understand there are many strange things in the archives, but you shouldn't instantly assume something as ridiculous as-"

'Ridiculous, is it?' Leviathan cuts Arnault off, speaking telepathically to everyone in the room.
>>
>>41741050
Instantly all three of the watchtower captains jump to their feet, weapons drawn or spells prepared. The room explodes with shouting, mostly from Aleksandr or Arnault.

"Demon! Right here in the tower! What on Aureus' green earth are you doing with such a thing in your tower?"

"I was not aware such a thing existed! That brass contraption at the bottom of the archives hasn't been opened in over a thousand years. We're told explicitly never to open it after becoming captain, and to keep the key hidden where no one will find it."

"Well how the FUCK is it here then? Explain yourself!" Aleksandr demands, pointing his sword at you from across the table.

>"I have discussed this at length with Galadriel, and Leviathan has made an offer which comes as close to a solution to the demon problem as possible. We complete the crusade, give Leviathan enough power to take charge of the then leaderless demon hosts, and then Leviathan fucks off with all the demons to the void, just like the angels. Given the permanent nature of demons, this is the only way to remove them as an issue for the people of this world once and for all."

this i dont want to have galadriel be talking to others, it doesnt seem like a good idea, we should speak for ourselves

Next up explain our self to our honour guard...
We should have taken them with us.

Also spend some time sparring with everyone (house lione specifically).
Put Celias attitude back in order and harras her a bit so she learns what a lickable jackass Sieg is.

Anon...Look I know I can't convince you but I am pretty sure Sparks isn't trying to trap us. Lets be real with this quest's tone we are more likely to be buddy buddy with those two as we fight with them like we did with Galadriel.

All I ask is that you don't let your paranoid delusions with no evidence impact your voting.
>>
>>41741585
It's a demon, man. We're only assuming she's being earnest now, and even if our interests are indeed aligned right now, there's no guarantee that they will remain that way.

As long as Sieg remains honorable and good to his word, he's better counterparty for her than other demons. But as she grows in power and the demon lords are eliminated or weakened, her incentive to be loyal will diminish.
>>
>>41741653
Well, least we could do is work with her in business terms, and boot her out when we smell the slightest whiff of betrayal.

You are way too late for that my friend.

Doesn't work that way either. By the time you smell the betrayal you are already fucked.
>>
>>41741690
We're unlikely to get a drop on her that way. I'm not saying to not give her a chance to be good, just to not be too surprised if it turns out she played us.

Well this is going about as well as you expected. If ever there were a time when you needed Galadriel's help to explain yourself, now's it. You mutter the incantation for Mind Link, creating a temporary connection between you and everyone else in the room.

"It's a long story. I'm going to explain myself, but maybe you guys will be more inclined to believe me if you heard it from Galadriel herself."

'Please lower your weapons, captains. You have nothing to fear, I promise.' Galadriel says calmly over the mental link.

The captains look around, confused. "Was that the Swordmaiden?" Arnault asks.

You nod, and everyone slowly starts to lower their weapons and cancel their spells. Aleksandr, however, keeps both his mace and sword in hand.

"You still haven't explained how you opened whatever's at the bottom of the archives." Aleksandr says pointedly.

"I didn't open it, someone else did." You explain. "The traitors who ambushed me were led by a doppelganger, who learned of the Leviathan's presence and used her help to take the key and keep the guards away from the archives."

"Her help? How could the Leviathan help her when she was sealed away?"

'My body may be gone, but I can still manipulate the minds of mortals, captain. Do you remember that night when you decided to go to bed early?'

Captain Arnault's eyes widen in understanding. "Impossible, that was your doing?"

'I am much weaker now then I once was, but I can still do that much at least.'

"After the Doppelganger discovered Leviathan's presence, the Leviathan revealed something to her that made her decide to turn against Malaphas. When the traitors brought me down, one of them using some sort of spell to disguise himself as Captain Arnault, the doppelganger turned against them and helped me defeat them."

"Where is this doppelganger now?" Laurentius asks.

"She's right here." You tell him, pointing to Aleria.
>>
File: Aleria2.jpg (166 KB, 600x857)

>>41742230
Aleria takes that as her cue and steps forward. Her appearance begins to shift, until she looks just like she did when she was at the White Watchtower. "Like he said, I-"

A knife goes spinning past Aleria's face, missing it's mark just barely. It buries itself into the door behind her with a loud thud. A thin trace of blood can be seen on Aleria's cheek where the knife grazed here, causing her skin to slightly steam. The blade must have been holy. Aleria stands frozen, her face a mixture of surprise and fear, while the Grey Watchtower's captain Aleksandr starts to reach for another. His hand, however, comes to a stop just as it reaches the line of knives on his belt, frozen by some invisible force.

"What in the Void?!" Aleksandr demands, trying but failing to move.

'That's my line.' Leviathan responds, voice dripping with anger. 'I would appreciate it if you didn't try to kill my subordinates, captain.'

"Release me you demon!"

'Both of you, calm down!' Galadriel shouts angrily, causing you and the two unfrozen captains to slightly flinch.

'He started it.' Leviathan says dejectedly, releasing her hold on Aleksandr, who does not reach for a second knife.

'I don't care. Now, without any more interruptions, Siegfried, please continue.'

"Right..."You trail off, caught off-guard by Galadriel's sudden burst of anger. You proceed to explain to the watchtower captains what happened after the traitors were defeated, including Leviathan's story on how she really met her demise, and how part of her was able to return as she is now.
>>
>>41742240
The captains listen quietly, stopping you to ask questions only every now and then. One of which comes from Laurentius, concerning Aleria.

"You said this doppelganger helped you, correct? Her name and appearance is exactly the same as the doppelganger that attempted to kidnap you shortly after you arrived at the White Watchtower. I thought you said you killed her."

"Sounds to me like the corruption goes all the way back." Aleksandr grumbles.

"I did kill her back then, I can even show you the spot where I buried her. Apparently she was reborn between then and when she arrived at the Red Watchtower."

"I see." Laurentius says, turning his head to Aleria. "You know, most spies would change their name is such a situation."

"...Human names are hard to come up with." She half-heartedly defends, still eying Captain Aleksandr cautiously.

--------
With your explanation finished, The three watchtower captains sit in silence, processing everything they've been told.

"So basically, the Leviathan is willing to assist us in this crusade in order to get revenge on Malaphas and Lilith. After defeating Malaphas, -assuming- we defeat Malaphas, she plans to lead the remaining demons back into the void, and we will be left in peace. Am I understanding all this correctly?" Laurentius asks.

You nod. "That's the plan, anyways. That's why I asked you all to come here, so we could take a vote on it."

I see..." Laurentius trails off, closing his eyes and thinking carefully. "In that case, I vote in favor of the Leviathan's support."
>>

>>41742260
"What?!" Aleksandr yells in surprise. "How could you possibly support this, didn't you fight in the last crusade? You should know better than anyone that demons can't be trusted."

"I did fight in the last crusade." Laurentius nods. "And that's precisely why I know we may just need her support if we're to have any hope of success. Let's not mince words here, this will be the twenty-eighth time we've tried to take back the Forsaken Lands. We failed when the angels were on our side, and we failed when Asher was leading us. What makes you think we can win this time without trying something different? If a Demon Lord wants to rebel against Malaphas, any demons under her domain will likely rebel as well. And that's to say nothing of whatever powers she can lend Siegfried and the protection she can grant him against mind control should we make it to Lilith's domain."

"And what if she betrays us? What if she betrays us after Malaphas is gone and tries to invade us again?"

"I would sooner deal with a weakened Demon Lord than a fully-capable Demon King, Aleksandr. And what of you, Arnault? What's your opinion on the matter?"

Captain Arneult furrows his brow, thinking long and hard before he speaks.

"Swordmaiden, do you trust the Leviathan?" He asks.

'...I trust no demon, captain. However, I do know that a demon will keep to it's word so long as it stands to benefit, which it does. Should the Leviathan ever show signs of betrayal, I will do all that is in my power to destroy her.' She answers.

Captain Arnault nods. "I see. Well, with the Swordmaiden's word and Laurentius's logic, I think I shall support this plan as well."
>>
>>41742271
Captain Aleksandr rises to his feet, slamming his hands on the table as he does. "You're all fools! I'll have no part in a crusade which allies itself with the enemy!" With that said, he starts to stomp towards the door, pulling his knife out and adding it back to his belt before Leviathan speaks.

'Is that wise captain? I'm sure Eligos would -love- to hear that the land beyond the swamp has no allies to help it should it be attacked.'

Aleksandr's hand freezes on the doorknob. Slowly, he turns back to glare at the belt lying on the table.

"What would you know of the Lord of Fear?"

'More than any mortal, that's for sure. It must be hard, living every day fearing his minions attacks. Imagine how much safer Belmore would be, if someone finally managed to slay the him?'

Aleksandr stands there, frozen, considering his options. "...Aargh! Fine! I'll support this fools plan and look the fool for doing so! But I will never trust the Leviathan OR her little pet here. Swamp take all of you, and swamp take me for being crazy enough to agree to this madman's alliance."

With that, the Grey Watchtower's captain leaves the room, slamming the door behind him. You worry about angering one of the watchtower captains, but at least now Leviathan's assistance has their blessing.

“Don't worry too much about him. For all his bluster, Aleksandr will fight just as hard as anyone else when the crusade starts. He has to, Eligos would surely take advantage if Belmore isolated itself.”

You're not sure that's the best way to keep your allies on your side, but Laurentius sounds confident so maybe you shouldn't worry too much.
>>
>>41742271
How fortunate that Gal is such a great gal.

I hope Aleksandr won't do something stupid though, we still have to tour his watchtower's kingdom... and we still have to get the news to our honour guard...
>>
>>41742298
“Then if everyone's in favor of working with Leviathan working with us, should I go let the honor guard know?”

Laurentius thinks for a moment. “Don't, not right now at least. Wait until the crusade is in progress, let them see you in action first and make them trust you before telling them. Don't lie to them, but don't tell them yet either. It will all work out for the best in the end, telling them now would only make them distrust you.”

“I don't think Reinhardt or Erika would distrust me.” You defend.

“Maybe not, but it's better to play it safe in a situation like this. Other member of your honor guard who don't know you as well may be scared away if you tell them now before earning their trust.”

“I agree with Captain Laurentius on this.” Captain Arnault agrees. “Especially since the members of House Lione are with you now, from what the guards from the gate told me. Just keep it to yourself for the time being, you'll find a chance to tell them all in due time. For now, go back to your honor guard and start getting ready. You'll be leaving for Belmore tomorrow morning, so get rest up and finish any preparations you have left now and worry about telling them later.”
