The air around you is filled the stench of rotting garbage, the foul miasma making it hard to breathe. Makes that the second time you’ve avoided hell, but now you seem to be stuck in an impossibly deep pit that is used as a garbage dump.

At least you have two people to blame for all this: That Chinese guy who sent you to a brainwashing facility and that damn angel bitch who threw you down here. Revenge will be ever so sweet if you can find a way out of here and back up to the city.

>14 not bad

As you fell you were able to notice a few points of interest; there is a goddamn floating island above the city, you were falling a little too fast but you estimate this pit is at least five hundred stories deep and there are wires and nets stretched across the pit you - tore through a couple of them on the way down.

As you stare upwards at the pinprick of light in the distance you can feel your body knitting itself back together. Every part of your body is filled with an odd tingling sensation, regardless it’s time to do something – anything – to get out of here no time to wallow in self pity.

I'll just go with this to keep things moving

You stand up and brush some garbage off of you and look around into the darkness.

To the, let’s call it north, you see what looks like single very distant speck of light it seems to be getting closer but it is too far away to tell for sure.

Off into the east you see a grouping of campfires, their light flickering in the distance.

So then to the south-west you can see the faint glow of artificial light behind a mound of garbage.

Not much to go on, just how large is this pit anyways?

You’ve had enough with villages and don’t need to run into more of the goons running this place so you set off to intercept the single light in the distance. You walk for what seems like hours in the slime and muck of rotting garbage, the closer you get it becomes clearer – the light is headed directly at you.

You hear scuttling as some sort of land crabs scurry all over the place, mostly in the opposite direction as the light. Then there is a rumbling as something very big is pushing its way through the rotting heaps of trash, and then you see it –

A single point of light connected to billowing clouds of darkness, everything it touches is drawn into itself, and this huge thing is completely unimpeded as it sucks up anything and everything in its way.

>17 vs middle DC 15 pass

Looks like the little crabs have the right idea, this thing seems to be able to absorb anything that it touches so it’s time to get out of here.

You run through the dirt and grime, backtracking as best you can where you know you can avoid tripping into a pit of slime or some shit. Glancing over your shoulder you see that you are easily losing it and soon enough the rumbling fades and you can’t see the light anymore. Just to be on the safe side though you backtrack a bit more, the thing could just be behind a heap of trash or something

Eventually you come back around to roughly where you fell down here - the campfires are much closer than they were before so you sneak a bit closer to get a better look.

Not campfires, it seems to be a caravan of some sort made up of giant versions of the little land crabs. Short green creatures scurry about sorting through the trash all around you, tossing scavenged things up to others riding on the crabs to be stowed away. Others tend to the fires set in various scraps of metal that have been tied onto the crabs.

“No no no, dumb crabs going wrong way!” says one of the little green guys franticly pulling on a rope attached to a crab.

“Haha you dumb, can’t drive crabs”
“Yup, chief gonna make yous into soups”
“I finds a shiny!”

Not too bright are they, seem to be smart enough to talk though. So you decide to walk right up to them and as soon as one sees you it starts screaming.

“Helps humans attacks me”
“yous not dead though,” another responds
“is right there”

The second one sees you and shouts, “helps attacks,” it then pulls out a bone knife and throws it at you. The knife harmlessly bounces off of you. The pair of them look rather shocked.

“wait yous cheated human”
“no yous just dumb yous throw knife away can’t stabs now”

You pick up the knife that got thrown at you, and gently toss it over to them, “I’m not looking for trouble just have a few questions.”

“I gets knife from humans”
“No I gets the humans knife”

The pair of them descend into fighting over something that was already theirs, so you ignore them and head into the caravan. What you find is absolute chaos, somehow these little creatures are generating more garbage than already exists as they race around trying to scavenge what they can, wrangle crabs, and there are more than a few ongoing fights over shiny objects.

You try to talk to some of them but they just scatter and yelp about humans attacking so you look around the caravan itself.

There are twenty giant crabs in the caravan with a few hundred or so little green guys, it’s hard to tell with them all looking the same and them darting about all over the place. There are tents on a few of the crabs, rope ladders provide access if you want to climb up, so you check out one of them.

It takes a few tries but you get a hold of one of the little guys and ask where the chief is, and it quickly points you in the direction of a ladder that has been decorated with skulls, “chief there yous not going or yous gets turn into soup.”

The ladder is decaying and almost unable to hold your weight, but you manage to scramble up the side of the crab to get to the chief’s tent. You pull open the flaps to find that other than a few tattered rugs strewn about and a cardboard box the tent is empty.

Inside the box you find a letter and what looks like a bunch of GPS devices, turning one on you see it shows your position in the middle and a single dot some unknown distance away. The letter reads –

“To whoever finds this note – you’ve no doubt tried to find the leader of this tribe of goblins, but as you can see there isn’t one. The idea of a chief s revered in goblin society but the man behind the curtain so to speak is their shaman. If you need assistance just follow the device to the indicated area.”

Well this whole situation seems a bit shifty, so you decide to grab one of the devices and clamber down one crab and up another.

The pungent scent of various burning things fill the air as think colored smokes waft about. In the middle of the tent sits a large cauldron containing a fire attended to by a lone goblin dressed in bones and scavenged jewelry.

It occasionally tosses something into the fire causing a plume of smoke to rise with a flash of flame. As you enter the tent it turns its milky clouded eyes to you.

“So yous come at last, the fallen human,” its horse voice croaks out, “no hostilities but a seeker of knowledge, yous ask questions now.”

-Research Ring Three-

“Tribe escape long ago but not smart and fall down here,” it suddenly points to the device you picked up,

Other than the shaman, it doesn’t seem like any of the goblins have brains so you are able to collect anything you want from them, just pick something up and say it is yours and they all believe it.

You also spend some time trying to learn more from the shaman, the elderly goblin seems happy for the company of someone with a mind so it chatters on for days you think, hard to tell time down here.

You learn that the pit is used by the city above to dispose of everything from trash to experimental monster projects. The light and billowing black cloud thing is a cleaner of sorts, it uses physical force to break down anything it touches and then converts it to magical energy to grow bigger. The white coat humans obviously are researchers, they come down to collect parts from abandoned projects, specimens, and when a cleaner gets too big they harvest them for the energy.

Unfortunately the shaman doesn’t know much about the world above, you can’t get more information other than the story of ring three it could be truth or it could just be some salvaged metal they built their tribes identity around.

When you ask about magic the shaman nods and says, “Yes magic is real, I trade eyes for sight but you like killing things more.” The old goblin suddenly ushers you outside, “I see this time before, outside go!”

Down below goblins are running about and yelling in panic about birds, some sort of flying creature swoops down with a skreeee, and the shaman calmly raises his hand and a glob of fire out. Whatever it was the bursts against the flying creature and coats it in flame like napalm or something burning it alive before if even hits the ground.Yes looks like magic is real.

Looks like you find:

A silver flask containing a chunky green liquid. Shaman says it is a magic potion but has never seen that kind before. Probably better to test it on a goblin.

A cube about the size of a grapefruit. Each face opens to a compartment the size of the cube itself. There was a fresh apple inside one of the faces.

A small pouch of 55 gold coins. The shaman doesn't know what humans from above use gold for.

39 - A small heart shaped pendant with engravings of animals on it, there is a crack down the middle. Shaman says it is magical but can't understand what it does.

80 - An empty drab olive military style backpack, the inside is lined with tough silvery cloth. Things inside the backpack seem to be much lighter than they are.

Feel free to abandon anything you don't like back to the goblins.

You ask the shaman to teach you to use magic, the old goblin waves his hand creating some golden motes of light appear.

“Human yous have no magic, can’t teach blind to read.” The shaman croaks.

You continue to pester the shaman about magic undeterred though, soon through your questioning you piece together some kind of understanding about magic. It is more or less the same as that Ki stuff old martial artists talk about and as a secret agent you’ve been trained in martial arts it can’t be that hard to just sit down and figure this out.

>Ability remembered Meditation Rank 9
>Stat unlocked Ki: 0

When you sit and meditate on how to use magic the shaman approaches, “Strange I see flow of alter but still nothing from yous.” The shaman ponders on this and tells you, “No more magic knowledge, this maybe bad thing”
The goblins don’t just find things in the garbage you’ve noticed before it is as if they are creating more garbage just by existing. What was once a rather flat area of garbage turns into heaps of trash after the goblins scavenge around. Thanks to the shaman tutoring you in the ways of magic you notice that it must be some kind of innate magical effect they have. After countless hours toiling beside them you think you understand how they do it, but you also now are covered in trash and stink really badly.

Also here is a list of things you found while out with the goblins before. The goblins will be very happy to take anything you don't want. Keep in mind all you have to carry stuff with is a backpack.
Four pairs of dark gold pants, one very small hourglass, one tiny bronze-capped cedar cane, one quill pen, one dark gold shirt, twelve huge jars of colored ink, three broken glasses, one huge bright blue bottle, one large sealed letter, one frayed belt, twelve silver amulets, one dark grey glove, one deck of cards, one very large ruby, a hickory lute, thirty-seven feathers, nineteen large pouches, eight wooden dolls, three broken hourglasses, one small gold locket, one dark red choker, one jaguar skull, one turquoise earring, one golden-brown blanket, and one small hand mirror.

You take your GPS thing to the shaman once again and ask him more about it.

“Yous in chief hut see letter too?” The shaman asks, “White coat humans give those and other things ask to send smart goblins for trade, now tribe only dumb goblins bad trade.”

Well it seems like the shaman is a fairly useless source of information now, so you go back to trying to figure out magic. Countless hours pass as the caravan transverses the endless garbage dump, on occasion you stop to help the goblins fight off veritable hordes of those damn annoying flying things. They don’t taste half bad though, much better than the standard mystery goblin soup.

The shaman approaches you some time later and offers a bone amulet, “Yous stay with tribe long, yous tribe friend now.” In the distance you can hear drums and see massive bonfires and even more massive crabs stalking through the darkness. “The gathering, mighty goblin warriors fight, tribe too small but yous can win get tribe glory.”

The Foulraider warrior look unsure of himself as he walks out into the arena, a gate opens revealing a giant lizard. The goblin starts to run away in fear but trips and is devoured by the lizard.
“Madblade – tribe have magic sword cut good”
The Madblade warrior rushes out to fight the giant lizard, raises the tribe’s prized weapon and cuts the lizard’s head off in a single stroke. If that blade did that with magic you’ll need to be careful. The battles pause for a moment as goblins spill into the arena to recover the lizard corpse. Then with a roar another beast is brought into position.
“Greatfang – Tribe glory about old kill, weak and lazy”
A massive goblin at least twice the size of those in your tribe strides out into the open arena with great confidence. When the gate opens what looks like a saber tooth tiger leaps out, and without a single misstep plunges its fangs into the large goblin’s neck and shakes it about like a rag doll.
“Foulcurse – whole tribe magic, tricky fight”
A sickly looking small goblin walks out next. The saber tooth devours it whole in an instant, moments later the lion explodes into gore, and a now smug looking goblin departs from the arena.

A goblin with black skin is up next, facing another lizard. The goblin simply walks up to the lizard and rips its lower jaw off and lets it bleed to death while taunting it.

An exciteable little goblin dashes out into the area ready to fight. Another saber tooth tiger is let out, and the goblin inadvertently sets itself on fire. The tiger just sits back and watches the goblin burn to death.

“Stonegut – hard to hurts them, very tough like yous human“
A tough looking goblin comes next, the tiger leaps at it and there is a struggle. The goblin manages to snap one of the tiger’s fangs but the tiger proves to be too much and the goblin is eaten alive.

“Sickeater – eats poisons, maybe use poison in fight“
A twitching goblin staggers into the arena, and is too slow to react when the tiger pounces. The goblin is devoured whole.

“Shadowkiller – sneaky use shadows to hunt“
The tiger looks like it is going to be sick but a goblin quickly rushes into the arena. The goblin slides under the tiger and slices its belly open. The Sickeater warrior fall out unharmed.

The crowd is worked into a frenzy and you can hear yells of, “boo sickeater cheat! shadowkiller cheat!”
The shaman shrugs, “not against rules, if gate open too soon this happen”

Your gate opens, you step into the area to a storm of insults and cries of cheating. The beast’s gate opens to reveal a giant crab.

>Questions and fights

”Arena built by giant crab shell, now go watch,” the shaman starts as you walk up.

“I was going to ask about the tribe actually, what is the Bonetooth tribe known for, was the tribe ever strong?”

“Bonetooth known for natural magics, yous learn one already find things good.” The shaman lets out a deep breath of air and continues, “Long ago Bonetooth could grow big become mighty troll, free other goblin from ring three. Magic lost now yous Bonetooth mighty human warrior bring glory to tribe. Watch fight now.”

Damn looks like you missed a fight, but if the crowd’s cheers are anything to go by the main event is about to begin.

The Madblade and Darkfury warriors are facing off. The Madblade goblin is working its way into a fury swinging its blade wildly while the Darkfury is able to dodge completely, putting the pair at a standstill.
>>
>5vs17

The Madblade is in a complete frenzy now, and rushes in for an attack but the black Darkfury goblin expertly trips the berserk goblin. The black goblin picks up the magic sword and decapitates the other goblin.

The crowd roars with chants of, “Darkfury! Darkfury! Darkfury!” As the black goblin leaves the arena.

You gate opens and you see that you will be facing the twitchy little Sickeater goblin. It draws two daggers that drip with some unknown toxin each drop hissing as it hits the ground.

>this means a snowball effect
>this means war with the higher levels
>this means we get to fight DMV bitch

Well, sounds good, I guess. But I don't think it will take THAT much diplomacy.
>>
>>41661491
Alright, so i propose:
3 luck to bring it to ten.
Save the rest because it wont get anything else up to the next tier yet.
Goblin scavenging to 4
Diplomacy to 2

I am open to switching goblin scavenging and diplomacy though.
>>
>>41661572
My bad hopefully updated to be a bit more clear.

>>41661592
>tfw I thought everyone just forgot about the city above and wanted to go on goblin adventures for some reason.
>>
>>41661592
Woah, shoddy first sentence, let me revise that

Taking the goblins from the shitheap bottom of the pit means they don't generate any more scrap in the pit, not that they lose that ability
>>
>>41661657
>>tfw I thought everyone just forgot about the city above and wanted to go on goblin adventures for some reason.

I play the long game, but I do want to work with the gobbos more.

They seem an alright sort, dumb as rocks, but alright. So making them not dumb sounds great to me!

Fuck those higher-up scientists! Never liked lab-coated pricks anyway!
>>
>>41661657
>My bad hopefully updated to be a bit more clear.

Maybe update it to say "Currently available" rather than current?
>>
>>41661646
I agree to this. Really curious what pumping up scav will do
>>
>>41661646
>Save the rest because it wont get anything else up to the next tier yet.
Man how I hate that logic.
But really, how is 2 diplo better than badass? Badass goes to all our rolls. Diplo doesn't happen much. Scav sound a decent option to take up a level.
>>
>>41661719
done

>>41661646
>>41661726

This seems to be supported so we can go with it unless there is some huge objection.
>>
>>41661726
>yfw at higher levels, the goblins scavenging will start to find functioning weapons and equipment, to the point that they can outfit a fighting force

Dwarven smiths? Fuck you, goblin scavengers.
>>
>>41661759
Objecting here>>41661758
>>
>>41661758
Badass costs more to take.
We'll get higher exp amounts later i assume, so for now we ought to build up our lower stuff.
>>
>>41661759
>>41661758
He brings up a good point.

Leveling badass gives a point to all rolls, while diplo gives a single point to talky rolls only.

Maybe make diplo give two or more points a level to make it more enticing?

Even with the XP cost scaling up, most people would save to get badass up a rank before upping diplo
>>
>>41661828
This.
I have no objection to doing what the others said. I anti-object to it.
>>
>>41661762
I’ve not really explained the tiers of skills at all, let’s just say that scavenging goblin style is broken as fuck. I’m not even prepared for a pharmacy or armory to be looted.

>>41661829
badass is Reginald's special thing it should be better than must things, but I'll push diplo up to +2 for now. Still balancing things out at this point.
>>
>>41661880
>I’ve not really explained the tiers of skills at all, let’s just say that scavenging goblin style is broken as fuck. I’m not even prepared for a pharmacy or armory to be looted.

>go into a room that has a few strays boxes and a couple of mostly empty weapon racks

>come out with 18 crates worth of loot and a broken wheel

>laughinggoblins.jpg
>>
>>41661828
Getting better at everything is hard, who knew? Getting that greater volume of xp requires us to win, at a vast array of rolls. 15xp for a +1 to everything sounds very worth it to me. We still have enough to take diplo and scav to rank two.
>>
>>41661920
>not wanting rank 4 gobscavving
U wot m8? I'll bash ye fockin skull in i sware on me mum
>>
>>41661880
It makes sense gobbo scavenging is broken.

They generate all the shit needed by the cleaners to get energy.

It's a seriously clever scheme by those scientists to take away the smart gobbos so they will never figure out they are being used like that.

Divine power indeed.
>>
>>41661937
Oh, I do want, it can just wait a thread. Will work better when we leave the Junkyard anyway.
>>
>>41661937
>U WOT M8 selected choose a mystery box from below

>ebin meme box
>periodic element box
>KUUUUBOOOOO box

John Cena in a box?
>>

It was worth a shot!

>insert loud as fuck deafening JOHN CENA!!!!!
>>
>>41661980
>implying badass can't wait a thread too
Anything can wait a thread
Hell, we can hardmode it and never spend our exp or ability points ever

Mc must die mode
>>
>>41661945
I'm sure no one cares, but by training with the goblins you've skipped to the top tier of scavenge. So if you ever find the potential party members specced for it, they will be useless.

If anyone comes up with a spending spread with two supports I'll just go with it. Not like there will be no more exp, you get at least 10 every thread.
>>
>>41662113
>character is succeeding even though he is just pushing past human limits

>finally makes it to DMV bitch after being a "scrub" and succeeding though tactics, skill, and a fuckload of good luck and equipment

>she is about to shove him back into the dirt

>MC uses ALL of his saved XP

>GG, no RE DMV BITCH!
>>
>>41662155
So we have...top ranking in scavenging?
Or did you mean that we're pretty much the best one down here?
>>
>>41662198
No, the best is the secret Goblin King who is so deep in a pile of scrap even the cleaners can't get to him.

R-Right, Apop?
>>
>>41662113
I already explained this. Badass affects everything. Scav will work better when we are elswhere. Do you even english.
>>41662164
3 luck, 3 dex, 2 str. Badass 5, scav 2, diplo 2.
Or we could go scav 3.
>>
>>41662223
Only affects rolls, and meh i prefer things with different affects than that
And there's no actual guarantee itll work better somewhere else. All ive seen to support that is you saying so.
>>
>>41662198
Because I wanted to try and keep things easier I've organized abilities into three tiers with ten ranks each, with goblin scavenging you jumped right into divine tier. And the shaman poorly explained earlier it is only the BoneTooth tribe that naturally has this ability.

>>41662217
If you rank if up you will be the best pretty quickly, goblins don't get exp very fast, easier to get eater or killed.
>>
>>41662245
See
>>41661880
I try my best not to make up bullshit.
>>
>>41662289
>tfw only Bonetooth has superscavenging

>tfw Bonetooth can have trolls

>tfw fuckhuge trolls scavenging like a motherfucker

WANT!
>>
>>41662289
Oh, nice.
We absolutely gotta get rank4 just to be the Scavenger our tribe deserves.
>>
>>41662321
>trolls scavenging entire buildings at once
>generating more buildings in the process
>>
>>41662310
Please by all means make up bullshit, if you think of something that Reginald should be able to do with his spying history, I'll add it in.

>>41662321
>>41662335
It isn't literal trolls those guys are somewhere else, its more like what an uneducated goblin would think a troll is.
>>
>>41662381
Toxicology, the study of poisons and shit.

Survivalism?

Forgery perhaps.

Most spies have training to resist torture, both psychological and physical.

Escape artist stuff, maybe.

Stuff for breaking and entering like lockpicking.
>>
>>41662381
>its more like what an uneducated goblin would think a troll is.

I'm not a goblin, so my guess is

a really big fucker, more akin to an ogre than a troll?
>>
>>41662424
He knows how to make a martini, and has exceptional tolerance and knowledge of the various alcohols in the world (of the living, anyway)

Truly, and underrated skill -all- spies have. To better resist blabbing about important stuff when drunk, of course
>>
>>41662424
Cryptography. Lip-reading maybe. Certainly some other languages, but that seems irrelevant here.

Pretty good ideas enjoy some free abilities:

Chemistry: Rank 4
Reginald's secret agent training included how to detect, neutralize, and create a variety of chemical compounds including poisons.

Mental toughness: Rank 5
Mental Toughness is the ability to disregard damaging mental effects, each rank gives you +2 when you try to resist such effects. You also gain exceptional tolerance alcohol.

Lock picking: Rank 4
Lock picking is the ability to break open locks, at this rank only complex electronic or magical locks to too hard to open. A successful check will render the lock to appear not have been tampered with.

Computers: Rank 4
Reginald's secret agent training included how to operate computers, and do cool movie style hacking things.

>Impersonation? Disguise?
I'll just make that a part of stealth.

>beat up the dmv lady
>hack into her social media files
>make unflattering posts about her superiors
Maybe find some nudes tucked away somewhere. Even Albino angels take nudes sometimes.
