Last time, on Star Dust Quest...

After yet another day/night of drinking with your crew, you found yourself in your dunebuggy once again, this time towards Fundt city. You were accompanied by Sya'ra and her squad, but upon arriving to your destination, you encountered a giant walker. With quick tactics, you took it down after a lucky, well-placed grenade throw and now you're going to be bum-rushed by an army of rogue drones. At least you got to the tanks.

“Looks clear,” an armoured Legion soldier announces as he walks out of a door towards your group.

Having just defeating the Four Legs at the city square, both your's and Sya'ra's crews stormed the tank hangar. Why it was located at the city square, you aren't sure, but you guess it was put in place here after the evacuation.

Lined up in front of you is a total of 13 tanks, six to your left and seven to your right. Their large cannons all pointed towards the centre of the large hanger whose ceiling stretched up a good 60 meters above you.

“The APC just arrived,” Sya'ra says, looking outside towards the sound of a large vehicle approaching. “We've brought enough fuel cells and tank ammunition to operate four tanks.”

“How many of there are us?” you ask, looking around the group while beginning to count. A bunch of the Legion members are guarding the door while others are storming the rest of the building right now. There's six of you, and two of you will be in the dunebuggy...

“There's 15 of us, six of you. Two in your dunebuggy, two in our MLUV, three in the APC...” she pauses to think, counting on her fingers. “We can operate three tanks.”

“Is that enough?” you ask, eying all of the identical tanks around the room. To be honest, you're a bit envious of all the hardware present. At least you've been promised to keep one of them.

“Should be, if Pete's intel is correct. Plus we're getting an attack helicopter soon.”

“Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Speaking of... Pete?”

“Yes, Gavin?” his voice responds through the comms.

“Are you tracking the hostiles? How close are they?” you ask, watching as several Legion soldiers begin rolling in crates of supplies from the APC.
>>
>>41627312
“I would say one-point-five clicks for the closest ones. A large group from your south-east, larger group from the north,” Pete explains slowly, presumably as he studies his screens. “I don't think you're getting those tanks up soon enough...”

You glance over to Sya'ra, who returns a (finally) serious look. However, you grown when she begins to grin at you.

“Well, Gavin? Who're you taking with you in the tank?” she asks, blinking innocently. “You need at least a driver, a gun-loader, a gunner, and a commander. Remember that you need a driver and gunner for your dunebuggy, too.”

>Yourself, you've always wanted to be in a tank.
>Troy would probably fit in well.
>Ivan would be a good driver for a tank, he's operated heavy vehicles before.
>Ley'ra has probably been in a tank before.
>You suppose this would be good experience for Beth.
>Viktor has yet to let you down, and you think he's an ideal choice for someone to be in a tank.

“Ivan, can you drive a tank?” you ask, looking towards him.

“I heard driving tank is like driving a truck,” he says, looking at the current tank being loaded with supplies. “Should be no problem.”

“That's true, actually,” Sya'ra affirms, nodding her head. “Much more fun, though.”

“Hahah, you leave the fun to Ivan, comrade!” Ivan laughs.

“You're on gunner duty, Viktor,” you say, looking to him next. He bows his head slightly. “Should be just like gunning a ship, right?”

“In a much more cramped space, yes,” he agrees.

Finally, you look towards Troy. “I'm going to need your machine arm to be our loader. Can you do that?”

“I was hoping you'd say that,” he replies, giving a little 'flex' with his mechanical arm. “Sounds simple enough. Speaking of, what rounds to we have?”

“We have H-E, A-P, and E-M-P,” Sya'ra answers, pointing to the last three crates being loaded onto the tank. “That's high-explosive, armour-penetrating, and E-M-P for disabling robots. Doesn't really do damage, but it's great at stunning the big guys.”

“Right.” Troy nods his head before looking towards you. “I guess you're going to be the tank commander, then?”

“That I am. I'll let you know what to load,” you reply, nodding your head as well. Finally, you look over to Ley'ra standing to your left. “You'll be gunning the dunebuggy.”

“Okay,” she replies simply with a nod of her head. You pat her on the head, though she swats your hand away, annoyed. That's when you take a deep intake of air as you walk over to Beth. The girl in turn looks around her as you approach, nervously.

“Beth, you'll be driving the buggy,” you say calmly, putting a hand on her shoulder with your head down.

“W-wait, what?” She looks over to Ley'ra beside her, and then Ivan on her other side. “What's going on?”

“I'm sorry, Beth,” you say in a melancholy tone.
>>
>>41628360
“Why do you--hey! You could at least have more confidence in me!” she whines as you break down into laughter. “I can totally drive a dunebuggy.”

“Sorry,” you say, calming yourself down while clutching your chest. “Just stay behind the tanks. Both you and Ley'ra should keep out of the big fights. Try to pick off the small guys so they don't overwhelm us.”

“Fine. Sounds reasonable,” Beth replies, gritting her teeth as you pat her on the head, too.

“Tank is ready!” a male Legion soldier calls out from the now-fully-loaded tank, waving towards your group. In turn, Sya'ra looks towards your crew and gestures for you to go.

“Good job, Twit,” she calls back. “Get the other two up quick, they should be here any--”

Sya'ra is cut off as a loud explosion is heard from outside. Everyone flinches, and it's then when you suddenly see Sya'ra's personality change.

“I want the HMG's on the balcony!” she barks into the comms, facing the doorway while pointing towards the second floor of the hangar. “APC, move towards the doorway! Gavin, go!”

You nod to her and then your crew before sprinting towards the tank. Footsteps behind you alert you to your following crew. Hopping on top of the heavily-armoured tank, you practically jump down the open hatch to find yourself inside of a dimly-lit red room. Bland metal walls meet you in every direction, and you're surprised to find it not as cramped as you thought it was. As you step out of the way for Ivan to enter, you find that you can almost completely stand on your two feet.

“There!” you order, pointing towards the front of the tank. There, a rather comfortable seat sits in front of a single digital screen along with a small opening to look through for the driver. Ivan nods his head and quickly gets onto the seat, grabbing at the sticks for driving. All the while, Sya'ra continues to bark orders on the comms, but you've phased her out as you observe the insides of the tank.
>>
>>41628389
Viktor hops down next, and you point him towards the right side of the front of the tank. You're surprised you know all the positions already. Beside you sits a screen for yourself, displaying the view at the front of the tank.

Finally, Troy squeezes down the hatch, closing it shut afterwards. That's when you begin to hear strings of full-auto fire reverberate throughout the spacious hangar, the machine-gunners letting loose their first shots. Trusting your crew to their devices, you focus on the comms.

“Sya'ra, what's the situation?” you ask calmly but loud enough for her to hear you.

“Get your ass to the square, Gavin!” she practically screams. After a moment's pause drowned out only by her heavy breathing, she returns to her regular tone. “Sorry. Bunch of fast-moving Bipeds. Two Crocs... you might take a beating, but you should be able to take the brunt of their shit.”

“Right,” you reply, looking towards Ivan. The engine has already started up, so it's just a matter of getting you out of the hangar. Another explosion rocks the hangar, rocking the tank a little. “Ivan, as soon as you can, please!”

“Okay, comrade!” he calls back before the Tank suddenly begins to move forward. Before you know it, your tank is already approaching the doorway of the hangar. Lines of tracer rounds shower from above as the Legion machine gunners unleash a hail of bullets at the wide four-story building across the square. You think you can see human-sized biped machines running to-and-fro across the floors.
>>
>>41628405
Finally, the tank emerges from the building. The APC sitting immediately to your right seems to be shooting its gun towards the same direction, and far to the left beside the crumbled walker is what seems to be some sort of mini-tank. Eerily enough, it appears to resemble a crocodile, or rather a large cannon with tank treads. At the end of its wide barrel ends two curved, metal beaks. It appears to be charging the cannon with energy.

Before you can call out an order, you see another similar drone appear to the right of the walker wreckage.

>Fire a tank round at the building with Bipeds (pick HE, AP, or EMP round).
>Fire a tank around at the first Croc (pick HE, AP, or EMP round).

my reasoning behind HE was that it will cause the one firing at us to stagger significantly more than an AP round, even if we miss a bit, whereas a low roll with an AP might mean someone gets hurt right off the bat.

I thought of AP as high damage, low interrupt and EMP as the opposite, with HE somewhere inbetween. I'm no /k/ommando, though.

“A-P round!” you yell while pressing the screen to your left on the first Croc, highlighting it for your crew. “Shoot at... that thing!”

“Loaded,” Troy calls immediately after having hauled the round into the receiver.

“Firing,” Viktor calls out in a calm voice.

The tank interior goes silent for several long moments, even though the outside has already erupted into a war zone. The building across the square is already barely recognizable, its entire wall shattered to pieces from the machine gun fire. You aren't sure if they managed to get any, but you're focusing on the bigger machines right now.

Your entire tank shakes as your world explodes in an iron splendor. You almost can't focus but manage to keep your eyes on the screen. The entire side of the Croc blows out, its left tank treads shredding to pieces.

“Grazing hit,” Viktor calls, almost disappointingly. Observing closer, it appears that the Croc is still standing and operational. At least it's no longer mobile, even if it can still aim its gun. It seems to have lost its charge, too.

“Gavin! More incoming on the square!” Pete states, capturing your attention.

“How many?” you ask.

“I see more of the small ones approaching from the north--your right. Two more of these Crocs with them.”

“Sya, what's the status on the next tank?!” you call, worryingly.

“Almost done, hon!” she responds, playfully.

“Now's not the time for that!”

“Afterwards?”

“Sya'ra!”

“Relax! It's coming!"

“A-P round!” you call out again. You're a little surprised at how quick Troy is to pick up the round and feed it into the receiver.

You select the second Croc on your screen to target for Viktor, who already begins to move the gun.

“We're going to reposition, Viktor,” you say, earning a dismissive nod from him. “Ivan, move us towards the center of the square. We'll still be under cover of the machine guns there.”

“Okay, Gavin,” he replies, almost immediately moving the tank as specified.

“Firing,” Viktor replies as the tank begins to move. However, before your tank fires its round, the Croc you're targeting unleashes a powerful beam of light.

Thankfully, now that your tank is moving, the beam only grazes the tank. The tank shakes slightly, but you think you come out okay. Looking to the side of the screen, you see that the tank's shield is now at 94 percent.

“Firing,” Viktor repeats as the tank stabilizes while moving. Almost immediately, the tank shakes again, but this time from your own shot. “Direct hit.”

Beautifully, your screen displays to you the second Croc as it explodes into pieces, taking the AP round in full.

“Woo!” you yell, celebrating before turning to Troy. “Troy, how many rounds do we have of each type?”

He takes a moment, counting the tank shells. “We've got 12 A-P left. 14 H-E, and 8 E-M-P.”

“Okay, good,” you reply. “Do we have smoke launchers?”

“No, I don't think so.”

“I don't think that would work against these drones,” Viktor chips in.

“Gavin, two Crocs and a bunch of Bipeds on your five!” Sya'ra's voice warns. You select the screen to display your right-facing camera, and you see two more Crocs emerge from where you had entered the square initially, on your buggy.
>>
>>41629254
“Leave them to us,” a male's voice responds as the second tank suddenly bursts through the hangar entrance. Almost immediately, its machine gun lets loose on the sudden horde of Bipeds. Combined with the APC and balcony machine guns, the smaller Bipeds retreat into the buildings.

“Gavin, more coming from your south-east, where the two first Crocs were!” Pete explains, sounding as though he's on the edge of his seat. “Two... large things. They look like robot lions.”

“Robot lions?” Ivan repeats. “This is sounding more metal than intended.”

“Shit, Chimeras,” Sya'ra mutters. “Get the third tank running!”

“A-P round,” you call, already getting the hang of it. As Troy proceeds to load the round, you select the closest Croc to you on your screen that the other tank is engaging.

Their machine guns continue to pummel the buildings of the Bipeds while the main gun fires off an AP round at the same Croc you're targeting. However, like your first target, it only grazes the side, taking out the tank treads on its right.

However, your tank shakes violently as it takes a direct hit from your left. With your target already selected, you switch over to the left-facing camera and see the first Croc you shot at still aiming towards you, having just let loose one of its shots. Your tank's shields are now at 79 percent.

“Can someone take care of that Croc?” you ask on the comms. “It just--”

“Got it!” Beth replies, accompanied by the loud revving of an engine. Your dunebuggy promptly zooms out of the hangar with Ley'ra hanging onto the machine gun tightly. Immediately, it drives towards the Croc's left flank before doing a power-slide turn, coming to a stop just to its left.

“Firing,” Viktor says while your jaw drops to the floor. Your tank shakes as it looses another AP round at your specified target. “Direct hit.” You don't have your screen on the right-facing camera so you can't see it, but you trust Viktor to his word. That leaves one more Croc to your right.

Meanwhile, as Beth revs the engine once more, Ley'ra lets loose her machine gun on the Croc you've initially disabled. The bullets bore right through its armour, given that the dunebuggy is almost right next to it. As the Croc begins to crumble, Beth drives the buggy off and circling around before turning back towards the hangar. Ley'ra continues to shoot at the Croc, shredding it to pieces.
>>
>>41629860
However, one larger machine emerges from behind the wreckage, right behind the buggy. As if out of some apocalyptic robot movie, its shiny, metal exterior is lined with glowing red lines. Your jaw drops further as you realize that Pete's description is quite accurate; it's a robot lion. Long, sharp claws extend from its 'feet', and mounted on its back is a rather large machine gun. The head is sleek, and its 'eyes' are just a single glowing rectangle that stretches across its 'face', presumably being some sort of sensor.

“Aaah!” Beth cries on the comms as she drives away. Ley'ra immediately changes her focused fire on the Chimera, but it dodges to the right. Immediately, its machine gun blares to life as it trails on the buggy, but Beth's surprisingly expert driving keeps them elusive to the fire. Machine-gun fire from the balcony also switches over to the Chimera, but the Chimera then begins to aim at the balcony. You hear several yells as the soldiers up top get out of the way.

“Fuck, it's got air-burst shots!” a man screams on the comms.

“E-M-P round!” you shout, this time with some vigour. The way this Chimera moves is quick, but you feel confident that Viktor can pull it off. On your screen, you select the Chimera giving chase to Beth and Ley'ra.

Ley'ra's shots seem to stagger it quite a bit, but with how frantic Beth is driving to avoid getting hit, she's having trouble landing any hits. However, with the focus now on the buggy, the machine guns at the balcony begin firing again, but towards the buildings across from the hangar.

Looking on your front-facing camera, you see that the Bipeds had almost made a charge out to overwhelm your tanks, but they had just been driven back from the machine gun fire.

“Right! You disable it, we'll load up an A-P!” the commander from the other tank says.

“Got it. Viktor, go!” you say, looking to Viktor who has his eyes on his screen attentively.

“Hrm... firing,” he almost mutters, focused on his target. Your tank shakes as the shot is loosed. “Direct hit!”

“Good job!” you say, switching the camera over to the left-facing one. You see that the EMP shot hit the Chimera's side, and it is now laying on the ground with its legs flailing erratically. It also seems that one of the legs have been damaged from the impact.

Another loud boom is heard as the other tank shoots its main cannon, and you see the shot satisfyingly pierce straight through the Chimera's 'chest'. It explodes from within, and the Chimera's torso is split into two. Meanwhile, Beth has driven the dunebuggy back to the entrance of the hangar and stops it beside the APC.

“God damn. Not going out like that again,” Beth sighs.
>>
>>41630564
“For a Fed girl, you have damn sexy driving skills,” Sya'ra teases. “And you're a medic. That makes me hard.”

“Mmh... come to my room later,” Beth responds in a sultry tone.

“Oooh~”

You groan.

“Right, well,” Pete cuts in, sounding a little stressed. “Another Chimera's stalking behind the building across from the square from you. It will probably wrap around towards your right flank.”

“Got it, Pete,” you respond, trying not to decide if Sya'ra and Beth are being serious or not. Either way, you don't think they'll need the condoms.

Another loud blast is heard as the remaining Croc fires at the other tank. It takes the direct hit, but the tank must still have healthy shields. The other tank begins to turn its gun towards the Croc.

“H-E round, level the building in front of us,” you announce, Troy loading the gun soon afterwards.

“Got it, Gavin,” Viktor says as he begins to pivot the gun back forwards, aiming it up towards the second floor.

“Fire at the highest concentration on the right, they appear to be hiding behind several pillars there,” you say, looking at your screen.

A blast alerts you to the tank to your right as it looses a shot directly at the Croc.

“Direct hit,” a woman's voice says, confirming that the Croc has been destroyed.

“Firing,” Viktor suddenly says, afterwards. The shot immediately rings out, shaking your tank once again as the shell impacts the inside of the building. You watch your screen as a large explosion shakes the entire building, a great ball of fire engulfing a large section of the area you shot towards. “Hit.”

“I believe that's several,” you say, eyeing the destroyed remains of several Bipeds. However, there still appear to be more as they continue to fire from their positions at your machine gunners.

“Two more Crocs, on the right!” a male's voice says, alerting you to change your view. You see the Crocs aiming at the other tank, but before you can make a call, another voice catches your attention.

“Chimera, on the left!” the man yells.

Switching cameras again, you see another Chimera approaching from your left flank, zigzagging while dodging machine gun fire.

“E-M-P round!” you call, prompting Troy to load it into the receiver. With your screen displaying the left-facing camera, you select the oncoming Chimera, urging Viktor to rotate the gun to the left. “Quick!”

“Firing!” Viktor announces before the tank suddenly shakes. The EMP round flies towards the ground where the Chimera is moving towards, and the two connect. The EMP blast overtakes the Chimera's entire front section, shocking the metallic beast and locking its joints. The Chimera tumbles and slides across the ground several feet before coming to a stop, right in the middle of the square.

Ley'ra begins to fire the dunebuggy machine gun at its prone figure, shredding its hind limbs to scrap. However, the Chimera begins to recover, clawing away at the ground in front of it with its fore-limbs. It moves with surprising speed, getting in front of your tank and out of sight from the dunebuggy's fire.

Over to your right, the tank fires an EMP shot at the Chimera that begins to sprint towards your position. However, the shot misses, hitting the city-square TV screen that sat at the foot of the skyscraper. Both of the Crocs begin to charge up their cannons, readying to fire on the tank again.

“Shit, back up a bit!” the commander yells. That's when another engine roars from behind you as the third tank finally emerges from the hangar, immediately pointing its gun towards the right.

“Firing!” Sya'ra yells, shooting the shell right afterwards. Amazingly, the shell connects with one of the Crocs directly in its side, blasting it to pieces across the ground. Her tank comes to a stop several meters behind yours, the gun already pointing towards the next Croc.

“Coming in from your nine, what's the situation?” a male's monotonous voice speaks through the comms.
>>
>>41631505
“Fuck, Dem! It's about time!” Sya'ra yells. You almost have to cover your ears. However, that's when you realize that you can hear the steady beat of helicopter blades overhead. It seems that your call for the air support has finally arrived.

“I see lots of bots on the rooftops,” Dem states, boringly.

“Shoot them!” Sya'ra yells.

“You got the tanks?”

“Just shoot them, god dammit!”

The helicopter moves towards the building at your front where you shot the HE shell into earlier. Bursts of machine-gun fire and rockets let loose from the attack helicopter, pummeling the rooftops of the building. Evidently, there were Bipeds up there as well.

“Shit!” the other tank commander yells. Looking on your right-facing camera, you see that the Chimera has climbed onto the tank and is now clawing away at the hatches. To your horror, the claws slice deep into the armour. "Shields down! Move back!"

Pick an action:
>Fire the main gun (HE, AP, EMP round).
>Fire the machine-gun.
>Reposition (Can fire while moving with -10 to success).

“A-P!” you call, giving Troy a nod as he loads one up in the receiver. Quickly, you select the Chimera clawing away at the tank on your screen, causing Viktor to aim the gun directly at it. “Ivan, move forward. Let's crush that one in front of us.”

“Got it, comrade,” he responds, proceeding to drive the tank forward.

“Firing,” Viktor says urgently, seemingly wanting to fire off the round before your tank hits the damaged Chimera.

Soon after, your tank rocks as the AP round is set loose, immediately connecting with the Chimera on the other tank. Its body is thrown off with a small explosion, shattering most of its metallic shell while blasting its innards across the city square ground.

Before you can celebrate, your tank rams against something. After changing to the front-facing camera, you see that the Chimera that crawled in front of your tank is now scraping against the front of your tank.

“Ech, die!” Ivan grunts, driving the tank forwards still. As if giving up on its life, the Chimera lets go with its claws as the tank begins to crush it underneath. Your tank rises over the body, the tank treads making it easy to climb over the heap of metal. All the while, the sound of metal metal scraping across the bottom of the tank rings out while you crush it, causing you to almost cover your hears. However, the tank finally makes its way to even ground, leaving the crushed Chimera behind.

“Firing!” Sya'ra yells on the comms again as her tank lets loose another shot, this one directed at the remaining Croc. You catch a glimpse of the Croc getting blasted away, shredded to bits from the AP shell. “Yeahah! Direct hit!”

“Looks like they're retreating,” Dem says as the helicopter begins to gain altitude. “No more on the rooftops, they're bailing.”

“Probably to regroup?” you ask.

“Probably. They normally don't retreat unless to gather with another force.”

“Is there anything else you see?”
>>
>>41632443
“No. Not for miles around.”

“I don't see anything either,” Pete chips in.

“Is the convoy on its way?” Sya'ra asks.

“They should be there in a few minutes,” Dem responds. “Good show, I think the day's won.”

“Thanks, Dem,” Sya'ra says.

“You owe me a bottle.”

“Nuh-uh, Gavin made that call.”

“I did?” you ask before remembering it was you who told her to call the helicopter in. “Oh yeah, I did.”

“Well, in that case, you're welcome,” Dem laughs.

You look to each of your tank-crew members, each of them giving you an approving nod in return. Ivan gives you a cheeky thumbs up. This might've been your first time in a tank, but you think you make a damn good tank crew. Kind of; you really only made it through one battle so far.

“Sya? Uh, Sya'ra?” you ask.

“What's up, Gav-Gav?”

“What now?” you ask, trying to ignore her nickname for you. You kind of find it hard to say her name in full; you can't help but call her Sya.

“Hrm...” She opens up the hatch above her tank, popping her head out. Seeing her doing so, you do the same with your tank, revealing your head to the now-fully-daytime Frundt city. The Crown star already burns through your dark hair, but you soldier on and look to Sya'ra with a smile. “I think we're in the clear, you can head on home if you'd like. The convoy can handle it from here.”

“You sure?” you say, looking at the tank you're in. It's only now you realize that this tank belongs to you.

“Mhmm.” Sya'ra puts her index finger on her chin. “And for the reward... I'll talk to you in a bit.”

You glance over to Ley'ra on the buggy to your right, but she simply returns a shrug.

“Alright then. Shall we move out?” you ask rhetorically to your crew.

“Beth, you wanna drive the buggy?”

“Hell yeah,” she replies with an unlady-like machismo, revving the engine.

“Hey, I'll come too,” Sya'ra says, hopping out of her tank and skipping over to the dunebuggy. “Hope you don't mind.”

“Eh, sure,” Beth replies. “The more the merrier.”

“By the way, nice driving, Beth,” you compliment, giving her an approving nod.

“I feel the drift.”

“Please don't.”

“Boring.”

“Psst,” Sya'ra whispers at her, loudly. “Drift.”

Rolling your eyes, you climb back down the hatch and give Ivan a nod. Your tank begins to move again as Ivan begins to drive it forwards, turning it to the right towards the street that you came to the square in.

“Where is this convoy coming from?” you ask on the comms.

“Oh, they're coming from a different street,” Sya'ra responds.” The original route we were originally gonna take.”

Ivan turns into the street while the dunebuggy cruises several meters behind, Ley'ra still diligently looking out with her machine gun in her hands. Apparently she got ahold of a hat to shield her from the blazing hot star above.

“By the way, I'm switching us over to a comms channel just for us,” Sya'ra continues. You soon hear a few pings as you're all brought into a different channel for voice communication.

The street looks disturbingly different, now that the star is now at a different position in the sky. With all the broken buildings around, the shadows have changed considerably. Regardless of being in such a dead atmosphere, you can't help but feel more lively after such a hectic fight.

“So, Beth,” you say suddenly, out of the blue.

“What?” she replies, her voice sounding as annoyed with you as ever.

“Did you feel the need...” You pause a few moments to wait for her response, though you only hear her breathing. “...The need for speed!”

“Ugh.”

“Why are you so boring?”

“Gavin, that sucked,” Sya'ra comments.
>>
>>41633311
The tillers in old school tank controls don't work that way...
>>
>>41633375
“I agree,” Ley'ra agrees.

“I thought it was funny,” you say.

“That makes it worse.”

“Heheh, I thought it was funny, too,” Ivan says. “But because Gavin sound like retard.”

“I don't disagree with that,” Viktor says, cautiously.

“Mhmm,” Troy hums.

“Fuck you guys,” you say. “I don't see you guys coming up with good jokes.”

“I have plenty,” Sya'ra claims.

“Tell us one,” you ask.

“I can't. Only when the time is right.”

“Bluff.”

“Nope.”

You sigh, knowing that they won this battle. Oh well, as captain, you'll get back at them later.

Looking up, you see the drones hovering a decent altitude above you. Pete must still be providing you recon, though you suppose his silence means there's nothing significant around you.

It isn't long before your tank finally gets past the city and into the desert proper. Just like that, the atmosphere changes from a post-apocalyptic dead city to a post-apocalyptic, barren wasteland. For miles in every direction is nothing but air, orange rocks and heatwaves. You try not to burden yourself with thoughts of traversing the heat, but you feel more sorry for the girls on the dunebuggy.

“Ah, it's so hot,” Beth complains.

“It'll be hotter in your room later,” Sya'ra giggles.

“I was joking.”

“I wasn't.”

“Rape.”

“Ley'ra, join us.”

“No,” Ley'ra responds, simply.

You try to shut out the thought of your female crew members doing that. As a responsible captain, that's something that shouldn't be on your mind. Drifting through space, alone for long periods of time...

“So, what was that about the rewards?” you ask, shaking your head. Troy lets out a low chuckle to your right.

“Oh, yeah,” Sya'ra responds cheerfully. “Can I join your crew?”

You blink, though you stare at the screen for several moments as if her question hadn't been asked yet. You can see a very distant black dot on the horizon; you assume that's the Cerberus Legion base. Speaking of, you're soon going to be heading off towards Unfound. You wonder if the city that's close to is just like Frundt; dead and deserted. But instead of killer robots, it's ugly mutants. You shiver.

At least you'll have a supposed army of Ivans around you.

“Wait, what?” you ask, finally registering her question.

“Can I join your crew?” she asks again in the same tone.

You blink again. “Uh...”

She giggles. “Sorry, I know it's so sudden. But... if you let me join, I will only pay you half of the reward.”

You look to the rest of your crew in the tank, but they all give you neutral expressions. Granted, Troy's face is the only one whose expression you can read since the other two have masks, but all he gives you is a small shrug with his shoulder.

Silence overtakes the comms while your two vehicles drive, the crew thinking their answers over. Though, you're pretty sure you know the outcome already.

“I am approving of this, comrade,” Ivan says with a thumbs up on the side.

“Huh, well, it's a resounding 'yes',” you say, nodding your head again. “So, as I understand the situation, you're practically asking me for Beth's hand in marriage."

“Mmm, yes,” Sya'ra says, faking a moan. “How could you foil my plans so easily?”

“Can I change my answer to no?” Beth asks.

“Yes! Let's all be one big happy family!” Sya'ra says, throwing her arms into the air. “I would hug you Beth, but I don't want to crash.”

“I think crashing this buggy is a good idea.”
