Your name is Thomas Cairn, and you have no clue what you jumped into. Your dad was a famous superhero known as The Red Rider, and he showed up dead in an alley about a year ago. When you were checking out a storage unit you inherited from him, everything changed. You gained his powers, a brain able to calculate faster than light, and an uncanny affinity for machinery.

Using your powers, you were easily able to get into the world's top engineering college, Central Cosmopolis Institute. You used this knowledge to make a booming tech business. However, you never moved past Dad's ideas, and you couldn't stand the gap The Red Rider made, so you filled it. You made a suit of power-armor and became The Red Knight, however, you lacked experience. So you managed to get a mentor, Wrench, so that you could learn the Hero business. Of course the only way to learn is experience, so you spent a good portion of your free time breaking up Mafia operations around Cosmopolis.

The people have taken a shine to you. They were scared about The Red Rider's "hiatus", but now that you're here they think that, like other normal Supers, he passed on the torch. The crowds love you, every time you fly by at least 20 phones come out, but no good comes without a price, and not everybody can be saved.

"WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?!" A familiar voice is screaming outside the tent, does this joker really think anyone will answer? Surprise, the answer is screaming, who would have guessed?

"WHERE IS THAT CAIRN MOTHERFUCKER, I HAVE TO SHOW HIM MY NEW MIXTAPE!" There are two possibilities, on one hand, Boombox may have found out who you are and is trying to get you back for the "incident". Or this could be another assassination attempt and he was payed to do this. The latter seems more plausible, you wiped all evidence of your involvement at the concert, nobody could know.

"There's a back room, get in it, there's an exit out the back if you think you can sneak away. Your face was all over the news, don't let anyone see you." The old lady who you just bought flowers from is looking worried, but she doesn't seem afraid.

You run into the back room, close the flap, and start to suit up.

You start sending out the nanomachines like you did before, this time you doubt that Boombox will see them coming, the tech's been marching forward. You finish putting on the suit and psyching yourself up, then you ask RON to contact the Super Crew, as you have them listed. You briefly considered UAU, but then they might get suspicious. You walk out the back and are a little shocked by what you see.

Boombox is wearing a skintight bodysuit that looks like it's made of speakers, albeit under his normal dumb rapper costume, but still. Your voice modulator switches on, this time to a deep voice.

"Did you take up gymnastics after getting the speakers blown out? Looks very comfortable, or did you join the ballet team?" First rule of snark, find anything you can to make a dig.

"BITCH I'LL KILL YOU!" Obviously not a calm guy, or a clever one, Boombox charges at you and you leap out of the way. He keeps lunging and missing, then you fly into the air while peppering him with the stun beam. To your surprise, the beams twist as they fly toward him, then they blink out.

"NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY AT THE MAIN EVENT BITCH!"

Easy. Fill the bodies with various types of tranquilizers converted and replenished from pollen, have them just all around the city controlled by RON. Some guy mugs a person, bird come in and gives them a small prick on the neck. Guys try to rob a bank, a single bird can knock them all out. It'll raise the bar on the minimum effort needed to get away with a crime. Your average criminal will need space-age material full body armor to commit any crime at all.

You ignite your plasma blades and go for a dive to catch Boombox off guard, but he fires a blast of sonic energy that catches you off guard, barely knocking you off course. You correct and make a swipe with your blade, but Boombox is doing a rather good job of keeping out of the way, netting only a few scratches in the process.

Boombox unleashes a shockwave that blows you across the circle of tents, but you manage to get yourself to a stop just before crashing into This n' That. The voice modulator flips on again.

"Oh no, how could I ever defeat Ipod-man! I am surely doomed!"

This obviously ticks the guy off, and he starts rushing towards you. This was a poor choice on his part, as you simply get into a stance and throw this uke into the ground with all his momentum. Just as you almost follow it up with a right jab, he jets away with a sonic blast, now standing on the other side of the half circle of booths.

"Sir, help will be there soon, Wrench said he was rather close, the others said they might take longer."

You have had enough, the nanomachines begin to stir, and they suddenly bunch up and replicate the move you pulled in the concert. They hit him right in the crotch and then wrap around him. Boombox starts shaking vigorously and a hum fills the air as the pile of machines starts to shift away.

"NOT TODAY FUCKER, I BROUGHT A CUP, CAIRN DID THAT LAST TIME!" Well, that means he knows you caught him at the concert, but he doesn't know you're The Red Knight.

Boombox stands up and starts getting ready to shoot a sonic blast, but a flying bolt hits him in the head. Backup is here, Wrench is standing a bit behind him and is holding some sort of hastily constructed gun. It looks like he'll have to do for a bit, but now you have Boombox outnumbered.

"Oh no, he vibrates! Maybe we should throw in the towel now!" Funny, Wrench seems to be on the same page you are with insults.

Boombox is slowly knocking all of your machines into scrap with his vibrating, and it seems like he's focused on Wrench

You cycle your Beam Gauntlet from stun to pierce and take aim, you can't let him hurt anybody or cause more property damage, so you line the shot up for his knee. Kneecaps are very important to being a threat after all. Wrench is keeping him busy by dodging blasts and keeping Boombox's attention.

Boombox isn't even paying attention to you, he's in his own little world, and you take the shot. The beam flies true and hits him right in the knee, cleaving directly through the side of it. Boombox is unfortunate enough to move at this moment, and his knee separates from the rest of his leg, revealing the bones beneath the kneecap as he screams in bloody agony.

Wrench looks on in, what you can only guess because of his mask, horror as Boombox's tendons and muscles move reflexively in the wound, spurting blood all over the concrete. Just as you register what happened, a circle of burn marks appears beneath him and fills out into an odd-looking design. The next moment, Boombox is gone, leaving only his blood and knee behind.

"Fuck, goddamn wizards again, and we just got him too." Wrench starts walking over and he puts down the gun.

"I have so many questions right now, but let's start with what just happened."

"Well, I shot him with a piercing laser in a non-lethal spot to prevent further damage, but he moved so I did more damage than I had anticipated. Then a wizard got him." This is weird, you never thought you'd be saying those words together.

"Okay, don't worry about it, the villain gets away a lot. It happens, just know that you should work on ALL non-crippling options before going to the big guns. Bad stuff happens to people who are too ruthless when it comes to heroics."

"To be fair, if he'd stuck around, I would've been able to fix him." You pull the container of SPINRs out of a pouch and show them to him.

"Okay, just try and avoid it next time. Last thing you want is a villain with a reason to kill." Wrench says that you should work together more often, seems like you don't do a lot of costumed charity anymore, then he walks around a corner and is gone.

You stealthily maneuver back to the tent while making it look like you left, and then you change back into mild-mannered.. wait that doesn't fit you at all. You change back into your clothes, grab your flowers, and pack everything back into your backpack, then walk out of the tent and back into the already re-forming crowd outside of the cordoned off half-circle.

You can't help but feel like whoever teleported Boombox away was related in some way to The Mortician. It fits his MO, burns, fire, soot, all things you remember him using and, ironically, being laid to rest by. Maybe he wasn't as much of a loner as you thought.

You have some time to kill before the closing, and it's not like you're doing much more than showing up, so you decide to wander a bit more. This time, you walk the other way back towards the dorms, the booths seem very mundane. Most of them advertise blenders and vacuums and free massages, but you pass one that is splotched with random primary colors, like a clown threw up on it. Inside is a teen, no more than 16 years old, in a cross between a labcoat and a smock, wearing a beret and heavy goggles.

"Come one, come all, see the tremendous art machine!" He says with a slightly old-timey lilt to his voice. He obviously goes for a Goldbergesque design on his machines, inside the booth is a large machine on wheels that looks like it jumped out of a Sci-Fi movie. Made entirely out of what appear to be spare car parts is the Art Machine.

"Anything one can imagine, this machine can make! A statue of a bird, a statue of an angel, you name it!"

"What about things that aren't statues?" Somebody says from the small crowd in front of the booth.

"Why do you think it's called the Art Machine?!"

"Demonstrate please. Make a 2D color splotch representation of Beethoven's 9th symphony, second movement."

Everyone turns to you, your name and face have got around over time, especially here.

"Uhm, coming right up Mr. Cairn." He types on the machine for a bit and adjusts it, then types on a computer and is obviously as nervous as he could possibly be. He wipes his brow and presses a large red button.

"Prepare for uh the greatest Pollock you'll ever see." He wavers in and out of the PT Barnum voice as he speaks and the machine whirs to life behind him. The parts go from a dull gray color to a light shade of teal, then a deep black, cycling through colors and running over a canvas.

The painting comes out of the end of the contraption with a satisfying ding, and the teen takes it out, showing the rather decent painting to the crowd. This might be somebody to look over, he seems to be a rather talented inventor.

It all depends on how we use it.

And stop with the knee jerk reactions, you look foolish. Anything we do to upgrade RON's capabilities will be in controlled inviorments with us monortoring it.

We're not an idiot like the Tony Stark from the movies.

Isen't that standard Pym modus operati though?

"That's an impressive machine, talk to me later, I might have a job for you." You hand him your business card and he gives you one of the most starry-eyed looks of wonder you've ever seen.

"What's your name?"

"Uh, it's Fibin, Fibin Acci. Well, that's what people call me, no last name, you know what, uh Fibin is good."

"Well Fibin, how does it work?"

"It works on advanced matrices that I programmed using sequential algebra, which causes variations in standard art, each linked to a descriptive word. It took about three years to make sure it didn't overload the CPU or not use the right variable, but now it works." Hmm, seems like a hardware problem rather than a software one, you are terrified by what this guy could do with a Hyper-Processor.

"Well, I have to get going, closing soon and everything, but I will field your call later. You have a bright future, and I want to be a part of it." You put on some sunglasses and walk off, leaving the entire crowd in shock. As far as they knew, Cairn Industries didn't hire people, but now that news should get out soon.

Wrench is right. We need to work on more nonlethal crime fighting tools. Maybe we can develop a sticky, quick expanding, quick hardening polymer, which is both nonflammible and nontoxic. I'm thinking similar to the grey goo that caught Mr. Incredible. I would think if we perfect it is would be a multipurpose tool we could use to catch bad guys, put out fires, or strengthen falling support beams, etc..
>>

i like that but why didnt we use our fireflies we made those to do non-lethal take downs

You decide that a T-shirt and jeans won't cut it, and head back for the dorm. You pass the fake magician wowing more idiots with too much spare change and go up to your room to change into another suit, you swear you didn't buy this many suits, but your closet says otherwise. On your bed is a note from Jeanna.

"I was going to talk to you about something, but you weren't here. Something's up with Monica, she keeps ranting about stuff. Psychologist says she needs closure. You sell stuff to The Red Knight right? She needs to talk to him about the thing with that zombie guy. Could you see what you can do?"

She signed it "Love, Jeanna" and laid it on your bed. That can wait for now, you have to go to that closing.

>Meanwhile...

"Why are you doing this?!" You cry through the pain, the burning, the smell of charred flesh.

"Because I suffered as you must now."

"WHO ARE YOU!?" The tears well up in your eyes, boiling as they streak down your face.

"George Liket, the man you killed, back to repay the favor."

The flame burns out.

Armor Tree (Costs money to integrate):

>Hyper-Hydraulics: Use compounded Micro-Actuators to increase armor lifting capabilities to 2 tons. COST: $10,000

>Flight Stabilization: Jets on the rim of your boots remove the need for the Jetpack and provide the ability to Jet-Kick. COST: $30,000

>Nano-Cloth: Nano-armor that has been reduced in size and increased in wearability by miniaturization. Has the appearance of liquid armor to an untrained eye. COST: $50,000 Effect: Increase maneuverability.

>Increased Capacity: Add a slot to an armor piece. COST: $20,000

Power Tree (Has Catastrophe Risks to roll over, in which crits do not count):

>Cairnsium Circuit: Cairnsium reacts positively to proximity to itself, let's use it! CR:25

>Cairnsium Public Use: Cairnsium has been proven to be safe, maybe the city will accept it as a power source. CR:40

>Unveiling (TESLA Tech): Reveal Tesla's realized dream to the masses and attempt to integrate it in normal life. CR:30

Depends, is it a Heroic scientist? Adventurer scientist? Mad scientist?

I honestly think gadgeteers are fun, if you couple that with an excentric personality it's even more fun.
Gene Wilder as a mad gadgeteer scientist when?

i have 2 questions
1. does that 20 in charisma make Thomas handsome

2. was the "meanwhile" about harry seeing as how he killed the Mortician.
>>
>>41528903
1: I leave Thomas' appearance vague so that players can identify better with him, and it doesn't come up much, just know that he's charming.

2: I didn't think that it required interpretation, but to remove doubts, Thomas doesn't know about it, and yes.

I go for a rather realistic version of comics, subverting some tropes, using others. But this is the general build he has.
