>You are a villager girl named Ellen from a small village in the nation of Neir, on the continent of Teege. As a member of the local militia/guard, you were trained in swordplay. Your fighting style is best compared to the mercenary class, though you're officially considered a knight of Neir.

>You have recently been made a member of the prince's personal guard. In a short time you will travel to another country to investigate an assassination attempt, but you've just wandered in on an attack from the same would-be assassin right in the nation's capital.

>The questmasters are Octoling (myself), and Grandflaw. There's no particular rhyme or reason to who posts when, and sometimes one of us might not appear all.

>Character Death is always a possibility (this is Fire Emblem after all), but your actions can very easily influence who lives and who dies.

>Voting periods will last an average of ten to fifteen minutes, but this may be increased, decreased, or generally changed at any given moment based on voter turnout.

Good luck! :D
>>
You quickly look over the hectic situation, trying to get something resembling bearings before acting.

Yourself, Reese, Jay, and Robert don't seem to be faring very well, all afflicted with a similar sickness either caused by the deaf Necromancer's presence itself or their magic.

The two unfamiliar fanged burglars are tied up on the ground, shouting to be let free, while the owner of the shop and Mitchell are trying to stop the skeletons from reaching themselves as well as the two axemen from Orsin, and Stefyn appears to be rushing to help the lot.

Reese looks towards the scene angrily, but is presently using his spear to prop himself up as Zoe readies her own lance, prepared to defend you and the newly-armored farmhand.

You look across the sea of skeletons and catch a brief glimpse of the Necromancer and the pale swordsman next to him, who you can only assume to be his bodyguard. The necromancer to be preparing another spell, if the vague movements of his hands are any indication, while the swordsman remains completely unmoving.

You don't feel very well, and it takes quite a large fraction of your willpower to even stand as straight as you are, but you have to decide exactly what you're going to do here.

>A. Raise your sword and prepare to defend against the incoming undead. You're feeling rather sick and you may not be able to hold out very long as a result.
>B. Try to get through to the Necromancer and his bodyguard, although you know nothing of his strength, and you'd have to wade through a large sea of skeletons that may only get bigger.
>C. Speak with and set free the burglars, they may be able to help you fend off the skeletons, as you doubt they want to die. Though you know nothing about them or their allegiances. For all you know the Necromancer could be here to rescue them. Not to mention you'd be taking your eyes of the giant horde.

Taking advantage of the skeletons not seeming to have focused on the new arrivals not immediately involved in the fighting, you rush through the small crowd, gaining a couple scratches, and more importantly, the notice of the undead.

That doesn't concern you now, you rush at the Necromancer, figuring the best way to solve this problem is to take out the source.

You try to quickly strike at the Necromancer, though your blade suddenly stops with quite a bit of force. The swordsman had moved in front of Necromancer with blinding (at least compared to your own) speed. Even accounting for the mask, he seems completely calm, keeping completely still as he parries your strikes. Maybe it's just your weakened state, but this pale swordsman in light armor seems leagues above you.

There has to be a way to get through him, though. No opponent is completely unbeatable, right?

>A. Keep fighting him, you're not going to give up this easily!
>B. Try to rush behind him and at least hurt the Necromancer, stop whatever spell he's channeling now.

>>41485242
Realizing you don't stand a chance alone, you decide to try and get some help, you yell for Mitchell to take a shot at the Necromancer while you try to handle the Bodyguard.

Mitchell doesn't yell back, but you're certain you were loud enough for him to hear you. Now you just have to hope he'll actually do what you asked. After having a few more of your blows blocked by the swordsman, you feel something sweep by your feet and you suddenly fall backwards onto the ground, the Bodyguard pointing his weapon towards you. As he prepares himself to follow up, he suddenly turns his attention elsewhere. A single arrow flies towards the necromancer, which is deflected moments from reaching the Necromancer's head.

The Bodyguard's change in position does give you a good look at his apparent master, though.

He has light blonde hair, which we already knew, and his features seem rather youthful. He has brown eyes, which for the moment they met your gaze look absolutely terrified. His ears are scarred over, which you can assume has something to do with his deafness.

You begin to pick yourself up off the ground, when the area the necromancer and his bodyguard were standing begins to glow brightly, and some kind of rune circle which has now formed on the ground appears to be the source. When the light fades, the two figures that were once there were gone, as well as the rune circle.

You now find yourself able to stand up with ease, the sick feeling having diminished significantly. You don't feel completely better, probably due to the presence of the skeletons still in this room, but you can assume the others afflicted are in the same boat.

You turn to face the skeletons you caught the attention of, and the fight seems to have turned in your group's favor.

Oh boy! A tie! Because, admitedly, B and D are mutually exclusive. If you want to assist Reese and Zoe, you'll be there for a while. Skeletons aren't ALL going to be cleared out in one update. So here's the tiebreaker.

While the first thought that occupies your mind is of the two strange burglars you left unattended during this whole debacle, while quickly heading towards them you glance towards Reese and Zoe.

From what you can tell, Reese's new armor is being put to great use, most of the skeleton's attacks bouncing harmlessly off of it as Zoe stays almost completely protected behind him. He's even making decent headway in diminishing their numbers while still keeping himself and Zoe safe, with the duo stabbing at any that get too close.

As you approach the burglars, the woman seems to be using her fangs to try and bite through their binds, while the man stares at you nervously, letting out an "Uh..." to try and alert his companion of your presence.

The woman stops and looks confused for a moment before turning her head to look at you.
"Oh. What do you want? Shouldn't you be making sure your friends don't get massacred?" The woman snarls at you, her eyes giving off an intense anger, even if you're not sure it's directed at you in particular. The man doesn't speak, just staring behind you with a look of concern.

Just to make sure there's no misunderstandings. The last vote came in late, and as what that E vote is saying is a very big deal, I was going to exclude it from the update as no one else voted for it. Had this second vote vouching for it come in earlier, I would include it. However, you can see it came in a little under a minute late.
>>
>>41486563
>E. If they promise to help you fight against the necromancer and skellingtons, you'll remove their binds for until they're all safe.
>>
>>41486907
The time limit is flexible, but that's mainly how long it takes us to start writing the update after the old time limit of 10 minutes has passed, or if there's only literally 1 vote we may try and wait for a while. I had already sarted the update in the 40 or so seconds it took the other vote to come in
>>
>>41486622
>>41486672

You remind them of their current situation, both the fact that they're in binds, and that they're in the same room the apparent "massacre" is taking place.

The woman doesn't seem to pleased by your answer, barking out that the skeletons aren't at all interested in them it seems, considering that the two of them didn't pose any danger to the Necromancer.

After a moment, the man speaks up, still staring behind you. "Well, I believe that'd be 'until you came over here', actually. They appear to be coming over here now."

You and the female burglar both turn to look towards the horde, surprised to see four skeletons shambling towards the three of you.

"Oh, great! This just had to happen didn't it? You sure are savin' us by bringing the damn things right towards us!" The woman barks at you, going back to intensely biting at the rope

Although these skeletons are rather weak, their strength comes in number and you're not entirely certain you can take all four by yourself.

>A. You can do this! Fight them off on your own!
>B. Untie the burglars under the condition they'll fight for you

"You two don't want to get killed by these walking bags of bone either, do you?"

The lady just snarls more, but her male companion finally speaks up, in an all-too-knowing, deep voice, "I really haven't chewed on a nice bone in awhile, and I see what you're getting at... Your archer friend confiscated all of our weapons he knew about, but untie us and you'll see that he wasn't entirely... thorough."

"Are you seriously just about to give us away like that?!"

"The element of surprise would've been nice for our escape, but we're pretty much backed into a corner. We'll fight with you for now, if you would hurry up."

The skeletons draw closer, and all this bantering simply reminds you of the urgency of cutting this duo loose. You do so, and they both start stretching out. You notice bushy tails in the colors of their hair unfurl behind both of them, and the male reaches into his pocket. Beneath his cloak you can see that he has a frankly absurd amount of pockets.

"Alright, where were they... No, not in there..."

"Hurry up, V!"

You don't hesitate to swing your sword right through the walking skeleton, its bones being broken as easily as the weakest limb of the Dracozombie that took your fingers. It's not enough to kill it in one hit, but it certainly stops its attack for enough time for you to get in another good (finishing) blow. What's still intact collapses and begins to fade.

You hear a piercing howl behind you, a hulking black and white beast having replaced the male.

The lady says to him with indignation, "you forgot to give me mine! Ugh, you always get like this when you transform."

The fellow, who you only know as "V" for the moment, doesn't respond, instead being quick to rip apart another skeleton, crushing another with his arms. You hear a disappointed whine as the bone he was chewing on quite literally fades from his mouth before he turns back into his more humanlike form.

"Sorry about that," he tells the lady before handing her some sort of orb. She turns away and harumphs.

"Alright, anyone can handle that fourth skeleton, now can you guys go and help Mitch... ell...."

"Vaga, you just promised!" The girl is shaking her fist and tail rigid and shaking with frustration. You literally see the last of Vaga, as his name apparently is, as he runs up the stairway and out of your sight.

"I know a great place, he says," the lady says, "he says, 'hey, sis, help me sack this store?' I don't even know why I'm surprised!"

The last syllable of "surprised" turns into a vicious roar, her transforming mid-sentence and ripping the fourth bonewalker to shreds before running in the direction of the six assaulting Mitchell's group.

You and Zoe take a quick look at each other. and something in her quickly shifts. She seemed... disinterested in the fighting, only really going through the motions, but now she's much more proactive.

As Reese pulverizes one of the bonewalkers, you and Zoe tag-team another three, trading them off between each other and stealing each other's own final blows.

Sure enough, by the time you reach the others, the lady has just finished bashing a final bonewalker's head against a wall, reverting to her usual form. Jay and Robert have also double-teamed one, and Mitchell is collecting his arrows from the fading remains of the skeletons.

Stefyn is shivering in a corner, and the red-haired merchant is grinning, eyes closed.

"That went a bit differently than most robberies I've heard of," she said, "but thankfully these criminals never actually managed to steal anything. Still, breaking and entering is a serious offense, and 'robbery' is a word any good merchant knows is very dangerous, so I trust you'll be prosecuting the one who was kind enough to stay to the fullest extent of-"

And the lady is off, disappearing up the stairs... And then yelping, tumbling back down them from near the top with several painful thumps.

Down from said steps walks Monica, a stern look on her face. Behind her, princess Salia, looking irritated that this is her night out.

"Nope. The deaf necromancer also made an appearance along with a horde of skeletons and a skilled swordsman acting as his protector."

"She also had a brother here, but he wound up running off. Also, er, Lady Monica, there was something else really strange that-"

She doesn't seem to hear anything beyond "had a brother." "So that was who that tailed fellow was... Regardless, you've gotten yourself into a lot of trouble, young lady."

Salia's eyes widen and she speaks up, "wait a minute... Dama, is that you?"

"Salia, hey! Think you can talk an old friend out of this? I'm being punished for NOT abandoning everyone in the middle of a fight!" Dama, her name apparently is, suddenly becomes far more... conversational.

"I just got back home. At least let me get comfortable before I become a pardon-happy despot jr!"

For his leading the burglary's foiling, the Secret Shopkeeper gives Mitchell something called a "bronze card," which he appears to be very pleased to receive, even showing it off to Stefyn.

Monica doesn't want to hear anything out of you, but begrudgingly tolerates conversation between Dama and Salia. "How're your brothers," "did you ever stop being a troublemaker," "when did you get so old," "you're older than me!" and the like, but you don't really pay much attention.

I know it may not look like it, but THERE WAS A HORDE OF UNDEAD HERE RIGHT BEFORE YOU SHOWED UP!

Go to the red headed dame and ask whether she knows about the hooded necromancer or why he would be interested in showing up in the middle of a heist.

If Monica isn't going to be proactive about this little investigation, then we will! Gotta get to the bottom of this mystery!

"Erm, Lady Monica, I keep trying to tell you that that necromancer was-"

"We can discuss that later. For now, let's make sure the perpetrator you didn't let escape is taken care of."

You sigh and resign yourself to walking while everyone else talks.

Robert has some very choice things to say about wolf girls that are best not repeated here, only stopping himself when hearing very intimidating growling from someone he wrongfully assumed couldn't hear his onesided conversation with Jay.

Reese pays Zoe a genuine compliment for her contributions and overall improvement, nothing remotely lecherous attached for once in his life. She just sort of thanks him without much enthusiasm.

Stefyn and Mitchell are talking about all the fantastic weapons they saw in that secret shop, and how they absolutely have to go shopping there before traveling to Heim now that they have this card. Well, Mitchell is talking about it and Stefyn is passively agreeing, looking distracted by every passing sight and sound.

Zoe eventually asks if you wanted to ditch everyone else and just ride back to the castle with her after you pass by where she'd left Poseidon.

"I'd love to."

You break away from the group without anyone really thinking it worth mention, finding and taking off on Poseidon yet again with Zoe.

Again, pleasant solitude fills the air, though by now the sky has become darker, starrier than when you went down.

"Some relaxing flight this turned out to be, hmm?"

You laugh at her little quip, reassuring her that you don't mind, all things considered.

You continue, "I mean what if that guy just stayed there, made even more skeletons, maybe sicced that swordsman on the people in there? It all turned out for the best that we accidentally intervened."

"I suppose... I'm also sorry on Monica's behalf, by the way. She could've still listened."

You reassure her that her sister's actions aren't her fault. She doesn't seem convinced, but still responds with an "I guess..."

You're still not certain why only you and the other survivors of Orsin village seem to be mage explicitly sick by proximity to necromancy, but it is a surprisingly effective radar for if that kid ever shows up again.

> Focus on old tales that we remembered being told by Orsin elder. Maybe there's a legend that could explain all of this.

For the rest of the trip back, think about your friends, fellow survivors of Orsin, allies, and how you and all of them have had so many brushes with death. That swordsman probably could have killed you then and there, and you knew it the moment he left. Why did he appear out of nowhere, serving this necromancer?

Why did this necromancer look so... young, and afraid when you saw him? Someone like that, just... can't be working on his own. And those scars on his ears... Who or what did that to him? Is that why he's so terrified of being touched at all?

Who is important or threatening enough to coerce a boy who can summon mighty undead dragons?

IS he being coerced, misled?

You don't know anything about this person, but your mind just... wanders.

You also consider the omnipresent source of wisdom that is a village elder. Have any myths or stories been passed down that explain... much of anything, really? Think, think, think-

You're jerked away from your train of thought by Zoe, after you failed to respond enough times, simply pulling you off of her pegasus yourself just outside the stables.

You figure the king's gonna be holding another big meeting soon enough, and there'll undoubtedly be at least the start towards answers there.

>To be continued in the next thread

there's really not all that much that I can think of for the rest of this thread without breaking into another thing that'll take time to start and work on. So, in other words, it's a good, if relatively early, time to end things off.

Thanks for playing, remember that you can follow us on twitter @qmgrandflocto for update schedule stuff

I'll be sticking around for awhile to answer questions as always.

Thanks for running!

I'm kind of disappointed that we missed out on some further support class ranks with the other people in our little party. We just went after the necro-kid alone and all. We also don't know why he popped in Anna's secret shop and what those beast-people were doing there (like, what they were stealing).

There's a lot of valuable things in a secret shop. I don't think they were searching for anything in particular.
