Last time, on Star Dust Quest...

You finally make it to Faraday safe and sound, and you're welcomed with a hefty amount of credits to boost! Granted, you've gained yourself a rather bothersome blonde-haired companion, but if she's a good friend of Ley'ra's, you think you can trust her. Though, you've taken her up on her offer of a free tank. Free as in you'll have to infiltrate a killer-robot infested abandoned city for it, but if not for the tank, then the thrill this task might bring.

“So, you're all probably wondering why I've gathered you all here,” you announce, looking to each of your crew members (and Sya'ra (minus Comet and Troy)). The blazing heat didn't really make the meeting place ideal, but--

“Did we have to meet outside in the blazing heat?” complains Beth, wiping her forehead of sweat.

“Yeah, can't we go inside?” Sya'ra chips in, pointing towards your ship's open cargo bay door. The six of you are all huddled in a circle just outside, the heat waves from the cement beneath you threatening to boil you alive.

“Why are you even here?” you bark at your not-crew member.

“I'm a mutual friend. Aren't I allowed to these meetings?”

“I've known you for all of three hours.”

“I agree,” Viktor says, raising a hand. “Let's go inside.”

“I'm gonna burn,” Ley'ra complains quietly.

“You mean get freckles,” Sya'ra teases, poking Ley'ra's cheek.

“Gavin, please,” Ivan pleads, his hands clasped together in your direction. Blame the heat, but you think his red goggles look bigger and more circular.

“F-fine,” you moan, rolling your eyes while turning to your ship. “Cowards.”

“The tyranny~” Beth sings, weakly throwing her arms into the air before following. “Where's Troy?”

“Right there,” Viktor says, pointing towards the inside of the cargo bay. As your group enters the ship, you see a corner-couch adjacent to a love seat off to the left, a coffee table in between. There, Troy is holding a metal tray topped with several glasses.

“I brought lemonade,” Troy announces somewhat cheerfully.

“You're like a housewife-man. House man?” Beth comments, earning an annoyed head-shake from Troy.

“Thank you, Troy,” Ley'ra thanks, nodding her head at him with a smile.
>>
>>41481637
Ley'ra and Sya'ra sit down on the love seat while you take a seat on the left side of the corner couch. As the rest of your crew sits, Troy sets down the tray of lemonade on the table, each of them taking a glass. You take one for yourself after Ivan downs his, briefly pulling up the bottom of his mask to do so. Afterwards, he leans against the couch beside you.

“I'm gonna unmask you one of these days,” you mutter, earning a chuckle from Ivan. You look over to Viktor with the same bitter look, and he merely shrugs

“So, let's get down to business,” Sya'ra says in a deathly tone, leaning forward. She looks at you straight in the eyes. “Gavin... we have to let you go.”

“Sya'ra, please,” you moan, sipping from your glass.

“Okay, but seriously,” she giggles, briefly sipping from her own. “You can carry up to four on your buggy, right?”

“Right,” you affirm, giving a brief glance to your crew. They seem to notice this.

“The heavy tanks can be crewed by up to six, but you'll need to drive your buggy still,” Sya'ra explains, finally with a serious facial expression.

“Hold on, we're going to be driving it?” you ask, leaning forward.

“Yeah. The sooner we get one of those tanks up and running, the better.”

“Why?”

Sya'ra sips from her lemonade again, savouring the taste. The glasses have heavily condensed already from the heat, coating her hands in water.

“Soon as we get close to the city, alarms will raise.”

“I thought you said it wouldn't be too dangerous.”

“I don't suspect it will, but you should've seen Frundt when we first arrived. Four-Legs everywhere...”

“Four-Legs?”

“Mm...” Sya'ra sets her glass down and leans back, tilting her head towards the cargo bay ceiling. “Big walkers on four legs. Sport particle beam cannons that can obliterate anything.”

“Sounds fun.”

“That's only among the worst of 'em, though. I don't think we'll find any of them there.”

“Sounds fun."
>>
>>41481659
“Don't think we won't be doing fighting, though. That's why I want at least one of those tanks up and running ASAP.”

“And you want us to drive one?”

“You've got the fastest vehicle. Don't worry, I'll be on our other fast vehicle accompanying you guys. Two or three of my guys will probably go in the tank with you.”

“So that's why you need us?”

“Yup.” She leans forward and headbutts Ley'ra's shoulder, keeping her head there. “All we've got left for fast land vehicles is one M-LUV. We ordered more but they haven't come in yet.”

“Alright then,” you say, nodding your head and leaning back again. “How many should we bring?”

“Well, four on your buggy. I can carry one more on our M-LUV.”

“Right.”

>Ivan proved a good driver already, you can count on him.
>Troy's skill with machines might come in handy. Not to mention his strength, he might fit well in a tank.
>Bethany's your medic. You probably should bring her along.
>Viktor's a professional gunner, you can't go wrong with him.
>This is a combat mission, so Ley'ra is probably a wise choice.
>You really want to see what Comet can do. Some field experience might help bring her out of her shell.
>You're dealing with drones. Naturally, a talented hacker like Pete might prove valuable.

“Pete, you can control the drones remotely, right?” you say, turning to the black-clad man. He's holding his glass between both of his hands.

“Aye,” he replies with a nod.

“Alright. You're going to be our intel guy again.”

“You've got drones?” Sya'ra asks, lifting her head from Ley'ra's shoulder.

“We do, but they're small,” you answer. “They can relay video feed back to Pete here, and he can inform us of goings on.”

“Neat. We'll likely have an attack helicopter on standby from the base, but aerial surveillance will be valuable.”

“Helped us once before. Would've been nice if a space ghost didn't possess one of them.”

“Eh?”

“I'll tell you later.”

“Mm.” Sya'ra droops her head again, resting it against Ley'ra's shoulder.

“Ivan, you're our driver,” you say, turning to your left to him.

“No problem, comrade.” He bows his head slightly. “I enjoy driving on land!” With that, he gets up and gives a long stretch, letting out a loud yawn. Without another word, he walks away from the pseudo-lounge and into the ship interior. Thinking nothing of it, you shrug.

“Troy, we could use your experience with machines,” you say, turning to Troy who's sitting beside Ivan (now vacant) spot. “Have you worked with tanks before?”

“I have, though not extensively,” he answers, sipping from his glass, cooly.

“I suppose that's better than none.” You turn your head to your right this time and look at Ley'ra, who's in the midst of drinking her lemonade. “You're coming, too.”

“Mmmf,” she replies, still sipping.

“You're not point position this time, though.”

“Mmmf.”

“Wait, why not?” Sya'ra says, lifting her head up once again.

“'Cause a grenade shrapnel pierced the shoulder you're headbutting,” you answer with a chuckle.

“Oh, shit. Dude, why didn't you tell me?” Sya'ra gawks, looking at Ley'ra with wide eyes.

“Mmmf.” She shrugs, putting down her glass.
>>
>>41482256
“Viktor, have you gunned a tank before?” you ask, turning to him.

“No, but it's probably no different from a ship.” You notice that his glass is completely empty, yet you don't recall him drinking it at all. “They should have the same systems.”

“I'll hold you to that.” You nod your head, looking over to Bethany. “Has she been fed yet?”

“I'll feed her soon,” Beth responds whilst playing with Bethany beside her.

“You're coming too, by the way,” you say, nonchalantly.

“Yeah,” she replies, equally nonchalant.

“So, that's our crew,” you say, looking over to Sya'ra. However, she seems to be struggling with pulling Ley'ra's head towards her lap. In response, Ley'ra has her hands on Sya'ra's shoulders, desperately trying to push her away. “What the hell are you doing?”

“Ley'ra won't suck my dick!” Sya'ra exclaims, doubling her efforts.

Before you sigh, the sounds of clinking glasses catches your attention to your left. It's Ivan, holding several crates of bottles.

“Comrades! Let us celebrate and drink into the night, hahah!” he announces, pulling out a bottle of rum.

”Sya'ra, stop trying to make Ley'ra suck your dick,” you sigh, leaning back against the couch while bringing up your wrist. You open up the menu to look up what's for sale at this Cerberus Legion base while Ivan sits down beside you, setting down his boxes on the table.

Glancing to your right, you see Ley'ra jab two fingers into the side of Sya'ra's neck, causing her to lose her grip. Ley'ra then proceeds to catch Sya'ra's neck in a headlock as the two continue to wrestle on the love seat.

“I'm gonna go feed Starburst,” Beth says, picking up the cat and bringing it away with her. “Save me some beer.”

“Aye,” Ivan says, pulling out several bottles and handing one to Viktor, Troy, and Pete. Glancing up, you take one as well.

“Here's to...” Ivan blanks out, his bottle raised.

“Not dying?” Viktor suggests.

“I can work with that,” Pete says, nodding his head.

“Sure, not dying,” you agree, raising your bottle and clinking it together with theirs.

Pick up a crate of EMP grenades and a rocket launchers.

Should handle them Martians nicely.
>>
>>41482665
Fuck yeah
>>
>>41482665
Wait, what do we call it?
>>
>>41482694
I'll second this but I believe we picked up a Rocket Launcher on our last job so lets just get ammo for that.
>>
>>41482638
Since we'll be dealing with killer bots, some EMP would be nice.
Would've added the "FD102 Toler" too, but I'm hesitant due to the cost and we already got a looted "Stark-4" (rocket launcher, explosive).
>>
>>41482638
A crate of EMP and if they are any good vs drone armor (up to a certain size at least) maybe a scarlet or two? Or just ammo for the launcher we picked up.
>>
>>41482638
I like the FD22, but we don't really need it.
get a crate of nades and save the rest of the money

Oh yeah forgot to add.

Some "Survivalist" armor for Troy.

Several hours later, you find yourself sitting on top of your ship with Ivan, Ley'ra, and Beth. The sky has turned into a gradient canvas, the orange rays of light from the Crown star losing to the approaching purple from the opposite horizon. Not a cloud dots the sky, but with how late in the day it is, the temperature has dropped to a cool, crisp evening. The star is now above the horizon, just about to dip below it.

Every time Ivan suspects you're not looking, he takes a sip from his beer. You try to catch him off guard, but you're a little too buzzed to care anymore.

“Why do you wear the mask?” you ask, sipping from your bottle. This was your... sixth? Probably closer to eighth, but you've taken it steady throughout the day. Off to your right, smoke rises from the entrance of your cargo bay. Sya'ra's squad came over and held a barbeque there. Since you brought over that new meat fridge, you've been enjoying beef all day.

“I can't answer that just yet, comrade,” Ivan answers, taking his time. He leans backwards, supporting himself up on his arms. You do the same. “This is what sunset looks like?”

“Yup. Never seen one this good, even on New Terra,” you admit, both of your gazes drawn to the fiery horizon. That's when the star begins to disappear.

“My eyes hurt,” drones Beth to your left, past Ley'ra.

“Maybe you should stop staring at it,” you suggest, though you don't entirely blame her. The Crown star is fairly bright, though that only makes the sunset more spectacular. There's virtually nothing but flat, rocky lands in every direction dotted with the occasional rock formation, and all of it reflects the light perfectly.

There's virtually nothing but flat, rocky lands in every direction dotted with the occasional rock formation, and all of it reflects the light perfectly.

The four of you watch the star disappear, and remain facing that direction until the dark sky almost completely takes over. Sighing to yourself, you lean back, resting your head on your two hands. Seems like the night time stars are already taking over. Ivan and Ley'ra join you soon after, and Beth tips backwards, clumsily thudding against the ship exterior. Maybe she's had too much.

---

A poke to your cheek alerts you to the land of the living, though you fail to stir from your slumber. Another poke still fails to do what the first set out to do, but you remain vigilant. However, when something wet and slimy brushes against your neck beneath your chin, you give in and moan.

Thankfully your head doesn't hurt, but you can't feel your left arm. You also feel like you've gone to a sketchy massage parlour run by Ivan. Not to mention, you think someone's snuggled against your chest.

You kinda hope to see red when you open your eyes. To your relief, you do. Yup, it's your combat specialist, and she's tangled in your arms. Looks like you fell asleep on the couch in the cargo bay.

“Did you lick me?” you groan, unsure of how to move. You don't think you can.

“Mmmf.” Ley'ra buries her head into your chest. She still looks sleepy, but you suppose she can't go back to sleep with the situation at hand.

“Ah, comrade...” a voice moans from behind you. No, that's not the couch backrest you're leaning against. A gloved hand is resting against your right forearm, pinning you down from getting up.
>>
>>41483953
“Ivan?” you whisper, trying to look over your shoulder. You catch a glimpse of circular red goggles before turning forward again, resigning to resting your head down.

Looking up, you see Troy resting alone on the other side of the corner couch while Beth's curled up on the coffee table, surrounded by empty bottles. How she got there without knocking any over, you aren't sure.

Smirking to yourself, you let your grip on Ley'ra go, causing her to tumble off the couch with a yelp. Though, that's two yelps you hear. Looking down, you see that she landed on Sya'ra, who was sleeping on the floor. Angrily, Ley'ra gets up with a huff and glares at you.

“Sorry,” you apologize, putting on a sincere-looking face. Her glare drops, and she sighs.

However, before you can get up, she grabs onto your boot and pulls. Surprised, you try to kick her off, but she manages to pull you onto the floor, knocking a drowsy Sya'ra down with your back against her front.

“Ack!” she cries as you land on top of her. You try to get off, but Sya'ra suddenly wraps her arms around your neck from behind. Her eyes widening, Ley'ra leans down and tries to pry Sya'ra's arms off of you, but falls on top of you two. That's when a sleepy Ivan rolls off the couch onto you three.

---

Lazily, you blink your eyes, your half-full arsenal greeting you a good morning. Standing beside you are the crew members you've promised to bring along; Ley'ra, Troy, Ivan, Viktor, and Beth.

As nice as the Ivan for is we really should upgrade. Actually since were mainly driving instead of hoofing it, and will need fire power, the Hail 92 and stark 4 should definitely be brought. Maybe we could pack the hail and viktor the stark. Ivan, if he can be convinced to part with his heritage, might do better with the burial than the Ivan. Ley'ra is pretty lethal with her rifle so maybe keep that as is. Also distribute some of that EMP grenade magic all around.

Confirmed.

“Everyone got what they need?” you say, putting down your Bandit revolver. You're a bit saddened that you never really got to use it, but the clunky thing was starting to get in the way. You try not to cringe in irony as you pick up an almost equally as bulky revolver, but the Deputy is much shinier. Comes with a cool scope thing, too. Say what you want about bandits, their unnecessary taste in ordnance is less strict than thought. At least it feels lighter in your side holster.

“Yup,” Ley'ra confirms, pushing the last EMP grenade in place on her bandolier. Your newly-bought crate of EMP grenades went quickly, but you bought it pretty much just for this mission. Hopefully they'll serve invaluable against the killer robots. She still has her EVI rifle slung behind her back; you think you see her with it more than without it.

Heavy steps alerts you to a certain engineer approaching to your left. Looking up from the table in front of you, you see Troy with the large rocket launcher you looted in Ragnarok slotted in on his backpack.

“Can you handle that?” you ask, eyeing the rocket launcher.

“I can hold it no problem, though I don't have much experience firing it,” he answers, glancing over his shoulder at it.

“Not too hard to use,” Ley'ra says, coming up behind you. “It's just a matter of loading it, arming it, then shooting it. And watch the back-blast.”

“I see,” Troy says, nodding his head.

“I'll show you how to use it outside.”

“Sure.”

“If worse comes to worse, you can just give it to someone else to shoot,” you chime in, backing away towards the arsenal exit. Ley'ra picks up the Hail-92 light machine gun by its handle, carrying it by her side like a suit case.

“Sounds like a good plan too,” Troy says, following you.

“Alright, let's move out,” you announce, walking out of the arsenal, proper. You get a chorus of mixed groans and responses, your crew having just woken up moments before

When you get to your cargo bay, you see Sya'ra standing outside the exit, conversing with Pete. When she sees you, her mouth curls into a grin.

“Yo. Ready to go?” she asks, a shiny rifle in her hands. On her back is a rather large looking rocket launcher with what you think is a revolver-type action on it. For rockets.

“Uh, yeah. Nice rocket launcher,” you compliment, tilting your head to get a better look. She smiles, turning around.

“Like it? Made it myself,” she gloats, turning back to face you.

“Eh.” You look behind you to see Ivan, Troy, Beth, Viktor, and Ley'ra standing ready, all of them fully equipped. “Yeah, we're ready to go.”

“Great, get your buggy fired up. We're leaving as soon as you're ready,” she explains, rubbing the side of her head with her free hand. “Oomf, I'm not a morning person.”

“So, should we just go?” you ask, glancing over to your dune buggy at the other side of the cargo bay.

“We'll give you the get-go, but you will be leading. I'll send you coordinates,” she says, raising her wrist to access her smart-gauntlet. It looks similar to Ley'ra's. “Also, I'll get you in on our comms.”

“Fun,” you beam, remembering the Blackhawk's comms with Dani.

“Oh yeah, which two are gonna come with us on the M-LUV?” she asks, looking up to you. “And who's on your buggy?”

“Ley'ra and Beth, why don't you ride with them?” you ask, turning your head towards them. They both nod, walking forward to stand beside Sya'ra.

“Cool, we'll be off in a few minutes,” Sya'ra says, looking to the two girls before turning around and leaving. Ley'ra and Beth follow as they walk towards their hangar.

“Alright. Ivan, you're driving again,” you say, pointing at him. “Viktor, you're gunning. Troy, we're on the passenger seats, and you'll sit in the back. If shit goes down, you'll be our tank cannon.”

“Got it,” he replies with a nod.

“Did Ley'ra show you how to use that?” you ask, pointing to the rocket launcher sticking out from behind his back.

“Yup. And to remember to watch for the back-blast.”

“That's important.”

“Yup.”

Ivan begins to walk towards the vehicle. “Comrades, wait outside. I'll bring the car to you,” he says, waving a hand.

“Sure,” you respond, nodding to Viktor and Troy before walking outside.

To a much stark contrast to yesterday, the morning desert was chilly and blue. The Crown star was only just peaking above the horizon, and the sky was still in its infancy to its light. It seems some clouds had blown over the area, but they're still scarce. It'll probably become just as hot as yesterday.

The three of you stand off too the side of the bay entrance, taking in the morning air. Far off to your right, you can see what looks like some Cerberus soldiers in the middle of a drill. Probably wise to get it over with now before the star comes to burn everyone's day away.

The roar of an engine announces Ivan's entrance as he zooms past the bay entrance, coming to a hard brake just meters away. However, he uses the leverage to turn the dunebuggy hard, driving it into a sharp drifted turn before coming to a stop near you, facing away. Troy whistles.

“Second time driving on land and you're already a pro,” he chuckles, climbing into the back seat. Viktor does a stretch before entering the back of the vehicle, himself.

“That's our Ivan. Full of surprises,” you say while jumping into the passenger seat.

“Gav-Gav? You there?” Sya'ra's voice chirps in your ear. You almost jump before you realize that it's your comms; Sya'ra must've gotten you into her channel already.

“Don't call me that,” you say in a flat tone.

“You know that's not gonna work,” another voice says.

“Fuck off, Beth,” you retort. Karma bites back twice as hard.

“Looks like you guys are ready,” Sya'ra says. Off to your right underneath one of the hangar canopies, bright headlights shine, alerting you that they've turned on their own vehicle.

“We are,” you reply, looking to Ivan. He returns a nod and an 'okay' gesture with his fingers. “Want us to go?”

“Any time you're ready, we'll be right behind you. Did you get the coordinates?”

You bring up your wrist to look through your smart-ring menus, bringing up the local map. You widen it to see that a mark has been placed about seven kilometers away.

“I see it,” you answer, eying the map. It seems that the details of the city are there as well, including streets and buildings.

“Pete?” you ask in the air, hoping he hears you. Looking to your smart-ring, you can confirm that he's on the line. “Pete, you there?”

“Unf, yes, boss,” he groans, his voice dead. “Remind me to not go overboard next time.”

“What did you do now?”

“Drinking contest.”

“Man, on the night before a mission?”

“Ah, don't let my demeanour fool you. I'm quite alright, lad.”

“You sure?”

“Really, don't worry. I've gone through worse.”

“Suit yourself. How are the drones?”

“About to fire them up... right... now.”

Through the purring of your dunebuggy's engine, you hear the gentle buzz of your drones flying through the ship cargo bay. The two of them shoot out of the entrance, quickly climbing to a formidable height.

“None are malfunctioning?” you ask, your eyes trained on the drones as they fly upwards.

“No, they seem fine,” Pete responds. “I think it'll take more than space-ghost possession to take down these guys.”

“Let's just hope it doesn't happen again and they don't kill us all,” you laugh nervously. Ivan laughs nervously along with you. “Okay, Ivan. Let's go, no time to lose.”

“Aye, comrade,” he says, giving himself a little salute before gripping the wheel.

“We're off, Sya,” you say to yourself, remembering that they're listening in.

“Like I said, right behind you,” she responds. As soon as she finishes talking, Ivan jerks the vehicle forward, almost causing you to yelp.

“Sorry!” Ivan apologizes, waving his hands at you. “Give me a... okay.”

He takes off the vehicle into a quick acceleration, and before you know it, you've cleared the air field and the base proper. With the speed you're going, you'd almost suspect that he's flooring it.

“Damn, Ivan! Do we gotta go this fast?!” you yell over the loud engine and wind whipping past your ears.
>>
>>41487708
“Geeze, you guys are fast!” Sya'ra laughs. Looking behind you, you can see the M-LUV keeping a steady pace, though they seem to be a little far behind.

“Ivan! I think we should slow down a little. Let them catch up, you know?” you say, your head facing him.

“Okay, comrade. Slowing down a bit,” he says, and the car starts going at a more steady pace.

Over the horizon, the star has just begun its ascent. The sky is now a much lighter blue, though there's still a darker presence on the opposite horizon. Up above, you see the drones keeping pace with the land vehicles, having no problems with coordination.

“Pete, do you see the city?” you ask, bending your head down to hear better.

“I do... it looks quite scary,” he says in his cheery voice. “Buildings all rubbish and all that. Much scarier that it's a little dark.”

“Must be pretty ominous at night,” Troy comments.

“It is. We've been there at night before when we were pinned down in the city for a week,” Sya'ra says.

“Damn, how'd that go?” Troy asks.

“It was fun as hell. Ran out of rockets on the first night though, and we ran out of rations on the third.”

“That doesn't sound like fun,” you chip in.

“It wasn't,” a male's voice deadpans, though you aren't sure who they are.

“That's what you get for being no fun,” Sya'ra huffs.

You're a little thankful that these guys aren't as noisy as the Blackhawks. Dani's cool and all, but her squad is a little strange.

“No killer robots, Pete?” you ask.

“Can't see from this height,” he responds, taking a moment to speak. “Though, if these drones we're up against are as fearsome as we hear, I don't think the calibre on these drones are enough to do anything.”

“Probably not,” another male's voice responds. “It's probably best to keep them up high for recon, don't want to risk them getting too close anyways.”

“Roger that,” you respond. “You heard him, Pete.”

“Alright.”
>>
>>41487738
“Actually, why don't you send them ahead?” the man says. “Do some preemptive scouting.”

“Good idea,” you say. Looking up, you see the drones pick up their speed, zooming towards your presumed destination. Up ahead, you can see the city already looming into view.

It really is as scary as Pete made it out to be. The city looked rather large, tall skyscrapers grouped together towards the left. That must have been the downtown area. Most of the buildings seemed to have been stripped of any of their features, all aside from their concrete skeletons. The windowless, orderly holes of each building peer out towards the horizon, like the eye holes of a skull.

“I see movement,” Pete's voice mutters, piercing through the wordless noise. You perk up, sitting up straight after noticing that you've been slouching. “I can't quite make it out. It's near our point of entry, though.”

“Any details you can add would be great,” you say.

“Oh... oh boy.” Pete goes silent for several moments as your vehicles draw ever closer to the city. The M-LUV trails only several meters back behind your buggy now, and behind that by about two kilometers is a larger vehicle. Must be the APC.

“Pete? What is it?” you ask, watching the drones. They seem to be hovering high above the area where you'll be entering the city.

“It looks quite large,” he answers, an edge to his words. “Something's moving between the buildings--about two city cars big.”
>>
>>41487762
“Any idea what that is, Sya?” you ask.

“Only my best friends and hypothetical boyfriends call me Sya,” she responds, slyly. That's an easy way to get someone to not use a cheesy nickname on you... then again, that could be a double-edged sword.

“Any idea what that is, Sya'ra?” you repeat.

“Wow, fine,” she huffs. “Could be anything.”

“Keep on it then, Pete,” you continue, brushing Sya'ra off.

“You never had any boyfriends,” Ley'ra chimes in.

The comms to silent for another while, though you presume the two are probably wrestling in their M-LUV right about now.

“Oi, maybe we should go about another entrance? Could be a Croc,” a male's voice suggests.

“Maybe we can lure it out of the city,” another says.

If its too scary we could always bugger off into the city to fix the tank, its probably slower than anything we have. Could catch back up mind you but then we're in urban terrain with emp's, eyes in the skies, and rockets.

“Head's up!” a deep male's voice suddenly announces, almost making you jump from your seat. “We're nearing the one kilometer mark. Alarms raised soon, everybody pack your shit!”

“Yeah,” several voices respond.

“Mmph.” one person humphs. You think that's Sya'ra.

“What are we doing, Sya'ra?” one person asks.

“That's up to Gavin, he's up front,” she responds.

You take in a deep breath, watching the city loom even closer. “We'll find a new point of entry. Let's try to get to that tank as soon as possible, secure us more firepower.”

“Hmm... alright then,” she says, followed by the noise of several clicks. You assume someone in the M-LUV is readying a weapon of some sort. “Your lead, Gavin.”

“Alright. Pete, do you see anwhere else we could enter? A major street, perhaps?” you ask, still watching the drones hover up above. You see one begin to slowly move its way towards the left. “Ivan, start turning left. We'll run adjacent on the perimeter till we find somewhere to enter.”

“Aye, comrade,” he responds, gently turning the buggy towards the left. The M-LUV behind you follows obediently.

“Yes, it looks like there's another street about half a kilometer to the left. It should still take you relatively straight to the tank hangar,” Pete finally responds. “I've marked it on your maps.”

With your wrist raised, you open up the smart-ring map to see the new marker.

“We taking the vehicles in the city, Gavin?” Troy asks.

“Pete, how do the streets look? Should we drive through it?” you ask, nodding to Troy.
>>
>>41488419
“They're fairly wide, not too much debris blocking the street I marked,” Pete replies.

“Do you see any other movement about?” Sya'ra suddenly asks.

“I don't see much. The machine I observed first seems to have disappeared into a large warehouse near the original point of entry, and there doesn't appear to be anything else.”

After a small pause, Sya'ra responds, “This area might be mostly vacant, then. The alarms should have raised by now.”

>Drive through the city in your vehicles; the quicker, the better.

“If that street can take us most of the way to the hangar, then we'll drive through the city,” you say, earning a nod from Ivan and Troy. “We can use the firepower of our vehicle guns, too.”

“Just got word that the attack helicopter is ready and is on standby,” a male's voice announces. “They can get here in fifteen minutes.”

“Good,” Sya'ra says. “The APC is just ten minutes behind us. Let's clear the way before they get here.”

Finally, you see your destined street up ahead. You look over to Ivan who merely gives you a nod, telling you that he knows where to go.

“Let's take it steady, Ivan. We don't have to floor it down the city,” you say. Almost immediately, the buggy slows down as he turns the car into the street.

“Should I follow speed limit?” Ivan laughs. You chuckle.

“Just keep it steady, Ivan. We don't want to miss anything we're driving past.”

You find it ominous that the large, two-story commercial buildings seemingly just end at the edge of the city with nothing but barren desert beyond them. Though, the more you look at it, the more this Frundt city looks like it was built in a circle.

As your car finally enters the street, Ivan slows the car down to a gentle cruising speed. You're still going a formidable speed, but you have enough time to take in your surroundings as they pass you by. Behind you, the M-LUV follows suit, keeping a steady 30 meters distance from you.

The buildings around you are in shambles, most of them nothing but their concrete foundations and walls. Roofs have all caved in, and not a shard of window glass is in sight. You don't know how long ago this city has been like this, but you're starting to believe that something very violent happened here. Maybe something glassed this part of the planet.

The Crown star has ascended to a decent height, illuminating everything in a neat yellow glow. However, the wind has picked up, and clouds of dust are now brushing across the streets.
>>
>>41489090
“I see movement,” Pete barks quickly. “Humanoid-like drones. Human in size, moving across a small side-street adjacent to yours. About four hundred meters on your ten.”

“Damn, Shooters,” Sya'ra mutters. “Grunts. Usually don't show up unless in droves or in scouting parties.”

You gesture for Ivan to slow down even more. “How many, Pete?” you ask.

“Less than five. Five, I see five, walking towards the city perimeter slowly.”

“What should we do, Sya?” You pause. “Sya'ra?”

“Heh,” she giggles before regaining her composure. “Well, if there's nothing around, we should stall the vehicles and go on foot to take them out. Not much else we can do.”

“Will they call for reinforcements?” you ask.

“Reinforcements are probably already on the way. Alarm was raised, remember?”

“Yeah.”

“This is probably them testing us, but if we leave them, then there's a risk of them popping up behind us.”

“No, we're gonna keep going. The sooner we get to those tanks, the better,” you command, nodding to Ivan to keep going. “I'm sending our drones in to take them out, we can't let them slow us down.”

“Good thinking,” a man responds.

“Alright,” Sya'ra agrees. “Go for it, Gavin.”

“Pete, I'm going to order the drones to attack. Let them do their thing,” you explain.

“Sure thing, lad,” he responds. “I'll get to see the first fireworks show, then.”

You change the menu on your smart-ring to the drone control interface. With the targets acquired, you select the assault option. Up above, you see the drones suddenly move from their idle hover to a nose dive towards the enemy position.

“Ivan, speed up a little. We'll use their cover to get as far as possible,” you say to him with an exchange of nods. “Hear that, Sya?--Sya'ra? We're taking off.”

“Sure thing, hon,” she responds. A slap is heard, and an 'ooh' from one of the guys on the M-Luv.

Ivan promptly speeds up the buggy a little, and the M-LUV keeps up. A string of machine gun fire is heard as your drones begin their strafes, but you hear the loud pings of the return fire from plasma weaponry.

“Two down, three still up,” Pete says. You can practically hear him on the edge of his seat. “These guys are pretty scary.”

“They are,” Sya'ra responds. “They go down easy, but they press on like nobody's business.”

“Robots can't feel,” a rather down-sounding man says.

“That's deep,” a woman's voice comments.

“Another one down. Our drones are just barely getting by,” Pete pipes up again.

Meanwhile, your vehicle just passed by what seemed like a long community building of sorts. An empty, dusty pool sat near the entrance in what looked like a rather large room. To your left passes by a row of what looked like small street shops and restaurants.
>>
>>41489953
“Almost there,” a man's voice says. You look down to your smart-ring and bring up the map. Sure enough, you're already 400 meters away from the tank hangar.

“It should just be around this bend,” Sya'ra claims. Up ahead you see your road enter a wide area; a square of sorts. One barren skyscraper sits to the left of that, and at its foot is a broken large black rectangular object. Probably a large television screen that hung up on the skyscraper.

However, the ground suddenly rumbles as though something heavy had thumped the earth. Dust puffs out from every surface, though your vehicles are only shaken slightly. The square looms closer, and there seems to be a large, thin dust cloud covering the area.

That's where your destination is, though.

“All those drones taken care of. Our drones only took grazing shots but we're still healthy. We're climbing back up to a good altitude,” Pete says.

“Can you see what's in the square we're heading to?” you ask.

“Lots of dust... oh. Er, oh my,” he says, hesitantly. “Slow down, hold on!”

You nod to Ivan, who suddenly stops the buggy. You are just 20 meters from entering the square.

“Area's large, a good 200 meters in diameter,” he says, almost on the verge of stuttering. “Dust everywhere, but I see a... large thing. A walker?”

“Shit, how big?” Sya'ra asks, her voice sharp, “How many legs?”

“Four. Circular body, like a daddy long legs.”

“Fuck,” Sya'ra mutters. You hear some groans from the other soldiers. “Fuck... a Four-Legs? Out here?”

“Sya'ra, talk to me. What do we do?” you ask. Another thud shakes the ground around you.

“Okay... okay. Big walker, four legs. Spherical body, one big, big gun.”

“Is that the one with the particle beam thing that obliterates everything?” you ask, recalling what she told you yesterday.
>>
>>41489985
“Yes.”

“Well... what do we do?”

“Weak points are its sides, undearneath, and behind it. Blind spots; it can't turn very well. It's an artillery drone.”

“Armour?”

“Thick, but nothing rockets can't handle.” You hear her begin to move heavy equipment around, presumably her rocket launcher. You turn around to look at Troy, who nods back and begins to unpack his rocket launcher. “Aim for its inner body. Kind of, aim for the joints between the body and legs.”

“Just the rockets?”

“Every fucking thing you got.”

You clutch your Ivan rifle between your hands.

>Go in fast and flank the Four-Legs. Your buggy's speed should be your advantage, and the square may be too small for the walker to move properly.
>Retreat, it's too much of a risk to go against something of this magnitude.
>Send in your drones to go first.
>Leave the vehicles and go on foot, it probably can't track smaller targets too well.
>Call in and wait for the attack helicopter.

Speaking of, would it be good to focus on a back leg, and try to force the cannon to point skyward?. assuming Im picturing this thing correctly.
>>
>>41490484
Yeah I think you are right.
>>
>>41490484
tbh if it's not too big, it would be the easiest to simply ram it in the hindlegs and have it fall over
then you can disable it safely.

but for that it would have to be shaped like the starwars walkers, as well as not very sturdy
>>
>>41490539
but couldnt ramming it potentially disable our vehicle?

“We're going in first, Sya,” you say, checking your rifle to make sure it's ready for action. “I mean, Sya'ra.”

“You're making this too easy,” she giggles. “I'm restraining myself, here.”

“Dammit, Sya'ra, we're about to go in, guns blazing and possibly die.” You look behind you to Viktor, who seems comfortably ready behind the dunebuggy turret. “You ready?”

“Of course, Gavin,” he responds, cooly.

“Alright. We're gonna draw its fire first, then when I give the signal, you enter, Sya'ra,” you say, sternly.

“Mmkay,” she responds before a loud click is heard. She probably has her rocket launcher ready.

Another earth-shaking thump puffs up dust everywhere, but you don't let it phase you. With your rifle ready, you nod at Ivan.

“Let's go, comrades!” he yells, revving the engine before zooming the buggy forward. Before you know it, you've cleared the entrance to the square.

Off to your right in the middle is the towering walker, standing at a good fifty meters high. Its circular body is supported by four long, thick legs, armoured to the bones with hydraulics systems and shock absorbers. A long, sleek cannon sticks out from the front of its main body, and it's glowing a bright green.

You're almost deafened by the loud, thunderous boom it makes as a bright beam shoots just behind your buggy. Unphased, Ivan expertly drives forward at top speed. However, looking back, a large hole has been bored into the fallen TV screen resting at the foot of the skyscraper. It seems a part of the foundation was blasted away, as well.
>>

>Go in fast and flank the Four-Legs. Your buggy's speed should be your advantage, and the square may be too small for the walker to move properly.

Make a mental note to consider painting our buggy red in the future.

Your vehicle begins to slow as Ivan steadily turns it inwards towards the side of the walker. However, you see its green cannon charging up again, seemingly almost ready to fire. It appears to be trying to track you, but Ivan's doing a good job keeping the speed up.

Viktor unleashes a torrent of bullets from the machine gun, aiming towards the body of the walker. However, it doesn't seem like it's doing much at first other than punching holes in the armour.

“Troy, can you fire the launcher?!” you yell through the wind, looking back to see him have it ready.

“We need to slow down if you want me to,” he says, looking back at Viktor. “I have to adjust enough so the back blast won't blow off Viktor's head.”

“Sya'ra, go!” you yell as Ivan drives the vehicle closer to the walker's side.

“Alright! Go, go, go!” Sya'ra says, probably to her driver.

Looking up at the walker's body, you see Viktor focusing his fire on the hind left leg join. Deciding to do the same, you aim your rifle up and steady your arm a bit as Ivan drives. It's a bit hard, but you believe you mostly have it in your sights. Steeling yourself, you pull down your trigger and unleash full-auto fire from your rifle.

The gun is a little hard to control, but to your delight, some of your shots land. With the combined fire from both you and Viktor, you chew a sizable amount through the armour surrounding the joint. You're certain that it won't take much more to take the leg off cleanly. The cannon also stops charging, having been knocked off balance from your staggering of it.

“Reloading!” you yell after your rifle fires its last bullet. As you pull out the magazine, Ivan drives the vehicle almost directly beside the walker's left legs, driving you towards the area behind it. You look up to see the Four-Legs aiming its cannon to the entrance where you came from, and there you see the M-LUV pulling top speed down the same path you took.

“Ivan, slow down!” you order, throwing your hand to gesture for him to stop. Ivan drifts the car to a hard stop facing towards the right. Looking behind you, you nod to Troy. “Give it a shot, quick! Aim for the hind leg joint we opened up!”

He nods back and stands up on his spot, pointing the rocket launcher outwards on the right side of the car. With nothing behind him, he aims it up straight at the joint and takes a moment to align the sights.
>>
>>41491519
“Firing!” he yells. After a second, a blast rings out, almost deafening you. However, you catch a glimpse of the smoke trail of the rocket, leading itself upwards straight at the walker's leg joint.

As it connects, the explosion rings out, sending a shockwave of heat across the area. The walker staggers heavily, almost threatening to fall over. However, it still stands, and as its legs lift and fall for better footing, more heavy thuds strike the earth. That's when its cannon pivots itself underneath its body, moving to point towards you.

“Ivan, drive!” you scream, and Ivan steps on the gas to take you away from the walker's gaze.

As soon as you take off, another explosion rings out, this one hitting one of the walker's (former) front legs. It staggers again, but it doesn't change its position.

“Sya'ra, call in the helicopter!” you yell.

“I think we got this ourselves, but alright,” she responds. After a few moments, she speaks up again. “Call sent, it'll be here in ten minutes.”

“Damn. Well, with all the noise we're making, maybe it'll be able to cover us a bit.”

“Sure. I'm firing my rocket again since it's pointing towards you. Keep driving.”

Ivan circles the car around to the right, taking you to the other side of the walker.

“Gavin!” Pete's voice says urgently though the comms.

“What is it, Pete?” you ask.

“I see reinforcements. Looks like automated mini-tanks and a lot of those humanoid drones, heading your way. About two dozen in all. A good two clicks out, approaching from the north. Better make it quick!”

“Shit, we have no time,” Sya'ra grunts. “Firing!”

Another explosion rings out as Sya'ra's rocket hits the walker directly in the body. It staggers much more heavily this time, but it's still standing.

“Throwing a grenade!” you yell, pulling out a hi-ex from your bandolier. As you wind up to throw, Viktor begins to fire the machine gun again directly at the wound you opened up near its hind-leg joint. Machine gun fire from the M-LUV joins it, and then another explosion from Sya'ra rocks the walker. Why it hasn't fallen over, you aren't sure. Regardless, you throw your grenade with all your might, hoping it'll set off right where you want it.

As soon as your grenade nears the opening, all the machine gun fire stops. However, your grenade lodges itself inside an opening directly between the joint and the leg, and to your delight, it explodes in a violent ball of fire.

The leg comes cleanly off and the entire walker collapses backwards. As it falls, another explosion blows its cannon off, and the Four-Legs crumbles to the ground in a heap of metal. As soon as the spherical body meets the dirt, it explodes again, practically obliterating the machine.

Ivan stops the vehicle a safe distance away, close to where the M-LUV is parked. Everyone is silent for a few moments, and as you turn to look at the M-LUV, you see Sya'ra standing at the turret seat, staring at the wreckage with a gaping jaw.

“Holy shit, was that you, Gavin?!” Sya'ra yells.

“Sometimes I get lucky like that,” you say, plainly.

“That was awesome!” she screams, throwing her arms into the air. She then points at you with her right index finger. “You are awesome! Marry him already, Ley'ra!”

“I almost did,” Ley'ra whines from inside the vehicle.
>>
>>41492122
“Can't have true love without explosions,” someone else says from within.

“I agree.”

“Yup.”

“Kill all the robots.”

“O-okay, Sya'ra,” you groan, remembering what Pete told you. “We're about to get bum-rushed by a small army of killer robots.”

“Yeah, but that was awesome.” She scratches her head a bit before picking up her rocket launcher, which she laid down beside her. “Okay, everyone in the building now. I guess it's time to make our last stand.”

“Okay,” Ley'ra responds.

And that's it for today, guys. Expect next thread to be next weekend, most likely Sunday.

Sorry for keeping this thread long, but it was fun. Hopefully you guys can survive the onslaught, get out alive, start a family, and live in some remote space station above a beautiful planet that you go to visit from time to time, sharing stemcell-grown meat meals with your loved one beneath a canopy of stars.

Ley'ra a cute. Cute!

Dustkeepers, next contract.
>>
>>41492276
Speaking of space tanks, dont the dustkeepers require some rather heavy support? and now we will have a tank a buggy with an MG another, smaller MG, and a Rocket launcher. weve moved up, and it's only our first week on the job. though Our uncles inheritance did help quite a bit.
>>
>>41492510
Will need to assess the severity of the mutant threat first, but yeah. Once we secure a tank, our planetside offensive capabilities can at least take a breather.

Ship combat capabilities still require more guile to compensate for the firepower, especially against superior numbers.
>>
I wonder if Sya'ra's willing to join us after this mission is over.
>>
>>41492967
yeah, we should probably invest in one or two more shipboard weapons after we get the tank, I think we have the slots for them?
>>
>>41492174
Great session, SDA. See ya next session!
