You are a young man named Travis of a nameless village of the country of Asier. One day, while out fishing, you rescued an unconscious injured paladin and then things took a turn for the worse.

You, Scarlett and Erkan got out of the tent, and you were greeted with a completely chaotic scene. People running and screaming for their lives everywhere.

“Quick, you two! We got to make out run now!” Erkan urged you and Scarlett. He was really going to run away, but you stopped him the second he so much lift his foot. “What?! Let go of me, Travis! If you wanna stay here and get yourself killed then be my guest. I still want to live very badly, thank you very much!”

“Calm the hell down, you sorry excuse of a man!” Scarlett tries to calm Erkan down. “Don’t make the situation worse than it already is. At least listen to what Travis has to say.”

Scarlett is right, the worst thing one could do right now is losing their cool. You take another quick look around your surrounding. There are lots of people running and screaming, true, but you can’t see a single soldier! Yes, not even the Asier ones. All the people here are the villagers that know nothing about warring and stuff. They are just acting on instincts the moment they heard something wrong happen. If this keeps up, it could very well lead to a stampede.

>Go look for the Asier soldiers.
>Look for the direction of the enemy attack and avoid them.

>Look for the direction of the enemy attack and go to them.
>Shout as loud as you can to calm the people down.

You shout out loud in hope to calm the people down, but it didn’t do much good, the people are still in mass panic. In situations like these, only someone with high authority or someone that the people admire can actually calm them down.

So, you suggested looking for the Asier soldiers instead.

“That’s right. Only the soldiers can calm these guys down right now.” Scarlett agreed with you.

“T-That makes sense.” Erkan nodded, somewhat unwillingly.

The three of you then moved out. You don’t know where you can find the soldiers, so you decided to head towards the direction of the horn you heard earlier. You know that there will at least be someone there.

After a while, you saw someone familiar leaning on a barrel to rest, it was Jake. You immediately ran over to him.

“Oh, hey there, Travis.” He greeted you like normal. “Looks like I was wrong about the drill, heh?”

Looks like he’s injured, it’s not fatal, but letting it untreated may result in him dying from losing blood.

>Tell Scarlett to use a vulnerary on him.

“Coming.” Scarlett nodded, took out the vulneraries and started applying it onto Jake’s wound. Erkan looks like he was going to object the act, but he refrained to do so, even he realizes that saving a person’s life is more important than saving your own… or that’s what you think he’s thinking anyway.

Scarlett finished applying the vulnerary and walked away from Jake. You joked you’ve paid your debt and Jake’s now the one who owe you.

“Ha… I suppose…” Jake smiled wryly. He then reached over a bronze lance that was lying next to him. “I want you to take this lance.” Jake handed the lance to you. “It’s not much use to me in this state anyway.

Got a bronze lance.
Bronze lance – Type: Lance – Rank: E – 50/50 Uses – 4 Mt – 90 Hit – 0 Crit – 6 Wt

“And as for other soldiers… I believe they are that way.” He pointed you at a certain direction. “Go, I’ll be fine. Imma’ just gonna lie down here and rest for a little. I’ll just get in your way if I follow anyway.”

Leaving an injured person behind in what might become a battlefield? That’s absurd! You ignored Jake’s suggestion and carry him on your shoulder instead.

“Why are you taking him with us?” Erkan nagged. “The guy told you to leave him. Just do what he asked!”

You ignored Erkan and kept moving, you’re used to all the nonsense that came out of his mouth anyway.

Scarlett, however, didn’t let that one slide. “Leaving a man to his death? Be proud, you’re even pettier than I thought you were, and that’s something.”

“Why should I care? I don’t even know the guy.” Erkan stated like it was a matter of fact.

Looks like the two of them are starting it again.

Their quarreling is starting to bug you. The last thing you need right now is getting distracted. Who knows when an enemy will show up?

You stopped walking for a moment and turned back to tell both of them to be quiet. Then…

“Yargghhhh!” You heard a loud yell coming from the side. You immediately looked over there and saw a mounted knight charging at you.

Weapon: Bronze Lance– Bronze Lance
HP: 15 - 22
Damage: 5 – 7
Attack Speed: 4 - 7

The lance knight initiates the combat so he’ll attack first. I’d tell you roll 2d100 for both hit and crit rate for Travis, but since Travis has Underdog skill, his hit rate shot up to 100% so you don’t have to. Feel free to roll for the lance knight hit rate instead. Be sure to tell if you’re taking the first or the second roll for the knight’s hit rate, I’ll take average of 3.

New is
sword and magic > axe and bow > lance and hidden weapon (knives)

So basically the way it always was, except adding magic to the triangle instead of it's own thing.

Seeing the charging mounted knight, you instinctively pushed Jake out of the way. The mounted knight swung his bronze lance at you, somewhat clumsily and grazed your chest. The attack didn’t hit any vital spot, but damn it still hurt.

Travis’s HP: 8/15
Lance Knight’s Bronze Lance: 49/50 Uses

Endured the pain, you stood your ground and thrust the bronze lance in your hand back at the knight in response and hit him on the shoulder.

Lance Knight’s HP: 17/22
Travis’s Bronze Lance: 49/50 Uses

Alright, back to our turn. Here’s the combat statistics for Scarlett and Erkan.

Scarlett vs Lance Knight:
Weapon: Bronze bow – Bronze Lance
HP: 17 - 17
Damage: 6 – 0 if Scarlett initiate the attack (0 - 9 if the Lance Knight initiate the attack)
Attack Speed: 8 - 7
Hit: 78 – 0 if Scarlett initiate the attack (0 – 70 if the Lance Knight initiate the attack)
Crit: 3 – 0

Erkan vs Lance Knight:
Weapon: Bronze knife – Bronze Lance
HP: 18 - 17
Damage: 2 – 8
Attack Speed: 9 - 7
Hit: 68 – 74
Crit: 3 – 0

Yes, I know Erkan is horrible.

Remember that Scarlett still have 1 use of the vulnerary left. Choose the one to attack and roll 2d100 for hit (average out of 3) and crit (best of 3), I’ll roll for the lance knight.

Instead, Erkan should attack.
>>
>>41464935
Truth be told, I actually forgot about the pairing up when I wrote the combat system, but now that I think about it, why the hell not? No stat bonus though.
>>
>>41464965

>>41464917
To be honest, I'd argue effective rally play was more overpowered. Using both however? Gamebreaking.
>>
“Travis!” Seeing you got injured, Scarlett yelled and immediately dashed forward. She took out an arrow… “Why you…” and aim at the knight. The arrow fired off the bow and stuck straight onto the knight’s soldier, right at the position your spear just thrust into.

Lance Knight’s HP: 11
Scarlett’s Bronze Bow: 49/50 Uses

Seeing this as a chance for another attack, you immediately follow up Scarlett’s attack and thrust your lance at the knight one more time. This time at abdomen.

“Arghhh!!” The knight screamed in agony.

Lance Knight’s HP: 6
Travis’s Bronze Lance: 48/50 Uses

There's still Erkan left. Should he attack or wait for the knight to attack us instead?
>>

>>41465130
Now, the question is, can Erkan get a pair up hit? If yes, doesn't matter who aids (hopefully us, due to 100% hit rate). If no, have him do nothing. We might need him at full health for tanking hits later.
>>
>>41465213
>>41465254

>>
>>41465419

>>
>>41465419
To be honest, I didn't see any ways around that. All I could hope for was to keep damage as a whole to a minimum.
>>
>>41465419
Erkan can't finish him off anyway.
>>
“Why, you wench!” The knight, angered by Scarlett’s shot on him, swung his spear around to shoo you to the side and galloped his horse straight at Scarlett.

“!” Scarlett saw the attack coming, but failed to move her body out of the way in time.

The knight thrust the spear full of anger at Scarlett, right at the same spot that Scarlett’s arrow is sticking on him. “Gah!” Scarlett screamed.

Scarlett’s HP: 8
Lance Knight’s Bronze Lance: 48/50 Uses

Back to our turn. Scarlett can OHKO the knight if she hits, or a pairing up of Travis and Erkan should do the trick too. Again, choose who to attack and roll 2d100.

Braving the pain, Scarlett reached for an arrow and aimed it at the knight. From that distance, there’s no way she could miss. The arrow went off and ended right where it was intended to be, right in the middle of the knight’s forehead. His body fell down to ground and his horse ran off.

Scarlett let out a sigh of relief and sat down to the ground, trying to catch her breath.

“S-Scarlett… A-Are you okay?” Erkan ran over to Scarlett.

“Get away from me, you coward…” Scarlett shooed him away.

You definitely heard the sound of weapons clashing, but there’s no guarantee that it was the fighting between the Asier army and the enemy. So just to be sure, you urged Erkan to go ahead and scout.

“Why me?” Erkan objected. “If you want to…”

You glared at him. He’s been nothing but a nuisance since earlier, if he’s not doing his role then it won’t be the enemy who guts him.

“Oh, okay…” Erkan reluctantly agreed.

He then went over to a tent and slowly moved forward. He took a little peek out and… “Whoa!” A body came flying at him. Erkan fell down to the ground and got the body lie on top of him as a result. You don’t think he’s injured though.

Taking a better look at the body, he wears the same uniform as the knight you defeated earlier, so it’s safe to assume that he’s the enemy, and the fact that he’s now lying unconscious on top of Erkan means someone just hit silly. And that person is most likely an ally. Your group hurried over to the side of Erkan. You pulled Erkan up and took a look over to where the fighting is.

There you saw the troops of Asier led by…
>Aldous
>Reynard

Mercenaries are great

>Aldous
Paladin with good weapons (hopefully Silver). MMHMM.
Plus, he needs some screen time right now, after the fiasco that was the minister.
To be fair, Reynard would also be cool. Doesn't matter to me, really.

It's hard to choose between Jagen and Ogma.

The one who just sent the enemy flying at Erkan was none other than Reynard. Looks like he noticed you too as he hurriedly headed over.

“You guys… How did you get out?” He’s clearly surprised to see you. “I was going to head over to free you guys, but it looks like I don’t need to now.”

“That was all thanks to me…” Erkan spoke up. He pushed the enemy dead body out of the way and crawled his way up.

“Um… I don’t think I recognize this guy.” Reynard addressed Erkan, and then looked over to Jake. “I do recognize you, I don’t think I’ve ever catch your name though.”

“That’s not important right now! You’re a soldier, right? Soldier should protect us civilians!” Erkan plunged at Reynard but quickly got pushed away.

“Alright.” Reynard said. “Whoever is injured or can’t fight, get into the middle of my troops. Whoever can fight, help me with the fighting.”

Scarlett held up her bow. “I can fight. I’ll help.” She said.

You also said that you’ll fight with Reynard too. He took a quick look at the bronze lance you’re holding and said. “You use lances? Great, just what I need.” He threw you a spear and you caught it. You took a look at the spear and recognized that it was the beautiful lance that you saw Aldous wielding before.

“That would help with the fighting more than the bronze lance you have.” Reynard gave you a thumb up. “Now, let’s go!”

Oh baby, never mind.
Hopefully, Aldous comes into play in the next fight. Would be nice to interact with him again.

Aw, damn. Ah well. Not trying this Sunday, though? Or am I just misreading?
Either way, thanks for the run QM.
I now have a desire to go play those old Fire Emblems. Curse you, QM.
