Well I’m back. Let’s see how this goes tonight, no promises on quality since I’ve been gone for so long but I’ll do my best. Hope you guys enjoy it at least.

>Fate Point:1
>Money: $285
>Equipment: Tier 2 Assault Rifle. Tier 2 Armor (+4 wounds). Tier 1 Pistol. Standard Ammo: 4. Tier 1 Knife. Tier 1 Bandolier. (Carry Capacity, 1 Ammo, 1 Misc) Tier 1 Rucksack. (Carry Capacity 4.) Quality Lighter. Tier 1 Med-kit. Tier 2 Med-kit. Tier 1 Toolkit.

Your name is William and for the first time in your life you are sitting in on a planning session between leaders. Set in the front room of the MMS building and mainly on Mary’s desk plans are being made. For the military there are Lieutenant White and Sergeant Major Walker, though you aren’t really sure which one of them is in charge. Sergeant Major Walker seems to be deferring to the Lieutenant, but the Lieutenant also seems to be deferring to Walker. For the town there are a few people gathered, but they seem to mostly be listening to Morrigan and Doc while Mary is busy handing out refreshments.

“It would be best if we acted like we didn’t know they were coming,” says Lieutenant White, pointing at a map of the town, “there are too many places that they could come from, we can’t possibly reinforce them all enough for it to matter. If we give them a big fat target and not a bristling fortress they’ll come in and we can ambush them.”
>>
>>41438768

“We should try to reinforce the main thoroughfares at least,” says Morrigan exasperatedly, pointing at the few large roads that most people in the town use, “if we can funnel them between the building or get them to stop the militia will be much more effective than if they can just keep closing.”

“How many men did you say you managed to gather?” asks Walker.

“Bout a hundred or so sober enough to fight,” says Doc, looking out the door where there is a rather large crowd gathered in what’s normally a quiet marketplace by this time, “Almost none of them have armor, but they’ve mostly got long guns and enough ammo for a bit of a fight.”

“Hmm…” says Walker, looking down at the map. You can almost see the room looking at him, as if his opinion will decide the whole issue.

>If we can ambush most of them we can turn the fight around on them before they even know they’re going to have one.
>We need defenses, I don’t trust the militia to stay coherent without them and a running battle can turn into a rout with untrained fighters.
>We need more information first, if we could get some scouts out to figure their disposition…
>Other.

“We should ambush them,” he says, pointing at the main entrance from the west on the mpa, which just happens to be out your front door in the real world, “Morale is going to be key in this fight. They’re going to expecting a big fat happy target and most of the garrison asleep in their bunks. If we can surprise them as they enter the town and cut down even a portion of them we can turn the tide of the battle before they even know it’s started.”

“So what should we do then?” asks Doc, gesturing to the crowd gathered outside.

“Get them set up in houses along the perimeter and try to disguise the fact that there’s anybody watching,” says Walker, pointing to a few larger buildings, “have a few hide in the marketplace as well, make sure they know they can’t come out until the shooting starts. We’ll have the garrison set up in squads here, here and here with one in reserve.” He points on the map to three spots where they’ll be able to open up and fire upon the most men entering at that location while staying out of the way of where the militia should be. “If we can surprise them enough we might just be able to break them before they recover.”
>>
>>41439449
White nods along with Walker, detailing a few other spots. “If we can get a few men here and here we should cover nearly every possible opening. We’ll be spread thin but as long as everyone keeps their heads and falls back if they get pressed we should be able to hold our own.”

Walker and Doc both nod, Doc heading outside to direct the militia to where they’ll be needed. Walker looks up to Morrigan.

“Where were you going to put your people?” he asks, “We could use another reserve unit but if you want to get in on the sharp end I’m sure you’re better outfitted than the militia, might make the difference in shock and awe.”

Morrigan frowns, looking down at the map.

>We’ll be here, on the sharp end. (Will start battle hiding in the MMS building.)
>I don’t trust the militia to hold if they don’t get help, we’ll be in reserve. (Will start the battle in the rear.)

Personally, I hate summer.

I have never once had a good summer. I was working summer when I was fourteen and summer camp with nobody I knew before that.

It's also fucking hot and I'm normally warm in the first place.

So combination of that and my family likes to do shit/work picking up.

Anyway, looks like we're going to be in reserve. I'll start writing.

You should have come where I live. Its been rainy/cloudy most of the summer. I could probably count on fingers the amount of clear sunny days we've had up here. Avarage temperature has been around 15°C I believe. Its been so bad that it's been reported that crops are around 2-3 weeks later then it should.

“We’ll go in reserve,” says Morrigan, pointing to the back near where Walker put the other reserve squad, “The militia will probably fight well for the first few minutes but if they don’t have support I’m sure we’ll get a hole somewhere. If the enemy finds a hole and they can exploit it…well we know that won’t turn out well, especially if you have the garrison spread out like that.”

Walker nods, placing his hand on the map slightly to the south.

“Alright, you cover the south, we’ll cover the north. If you have any leakers try to get a runner to us somehow and we’ll deal with it as best we can.”

Morrigan nods, waving the rest of the MMS out the door, grabbing her rifle from where it was leaning against the desk. “Don’t worry about it Sergeant Major, we know what we’re doing. If you do your jobs right there shouldn’t be any problems.” She gives him a small salute as you follow her out, your rifle held at the ready as you start walking.

Once outside you’re greeted with the sight of MMS ready for war. Normally everyone is carrying light, but now you see the heaviest armor you have and everyone carrying all the ammo they can. You don’t know how long of a fight you’re going to have, so the ammo is worth its weight in gold now. The strangest sight that greets you however is Mary dressed up in a dark grey outfit with her hair up. While she blends into the darkness, you can still make out what looks like two pistols, a rather small SMG and what looks like at least half a dozen knives. She notices you looking and gives you a smile.

“So what’s the plan boss?” asks Nem.

“We’re the southern mobile reserve,” says Morrigan as you make your way through a few side streets, finally stopping at the intended point, “We’ll wait until we hear the shooting start and then move to where it sounds like we’re needed the most.”

Everyone nods, then Sarah speaks up. “Do you want me with the squad or should I find a hide?”

“I suppose this is a good time to ask where do you want me too,” says Mary.

A: >Have her set up overwatch where she can.

Sarah is the team sniper. Having someone on over-watch would be of great help, not to mention possible sniper support. But I am uneasy about leaving her alone since snipers usually work in pairs, who knows who might creep up on her.

B
>Let her do her own thing

Seems to me that Sarah is some sort of Ninja/infiltrator... Seeing as she haven't been on missions before I guess she is more of a lone wolf when it comes to combat. I suspect letting her do her own thing would be the best choice

“Sarah find the best overwatch you can,” Morrigan replies after only a split second, “I know you’re a good shot and keeping you on ground level won’t help nearly as much as if you can take out any leakers you see.” Sarah nods her head in response, hefting her rifle and preparing to head out.

“Mary,” Morrigan continues, “I know you like to do your own thing, but I want you to stick nearby to Sarah. I don’t want anybody sneaking up on her and I want you with somebody you can run to if you need help.”

Mary nods, giving Morrigan a small grin before heading off with Sarah, whispering to her as they go off to find a place suitable for the two of them to work. As they go off Morrigan takes a seat, popping out a cigarette and lighting it as the remaining five of you wait for the battle to start. You don’t know how long you have to wait either, so you all take a seat nearby.

As Morrigan smokes, you see Nem checking her shotgun, SMG slung on her back. Cath sits down and closes her eyes, LMG placed across her lap and her pack heavy with ammo. Bellona is looking out the window, though she doesn’t appear to be looking too hard. You’ve already checked your gear and you’re carrying more ammo than you’ve ever had before, enough that you should be able to last through the fight. Now all you have to do is wait.

>Just wait.

You look at Nem as she finishes with her shotgun and sets it aside, pulling out her SMG and the ammo that goes with it, setting them out in front of her as she starts to look through it as well. You get up and move over to her, knowing that she normally doesn’t do this and wondering if you can maybe help her.

“Do you need help?” you ask as she checks the action of her SMG, causing her to look up at you briefly.

“Not really,” she says, leaning back as she sets her SMG down and begins fingering rounds out of their magazines, “I’m just nervous, I always get the ticks before a big fight.”

You sit down next to her and watch as she empties the magazine only to put the rounds right back in without really looking at them.

“Do you get in big fights a lot?” you ask, idly looking down at your own magazines as she slots hers back into the SMG.

“Back before the fall when I was still a street runner yeah,” she says, her eyes looking away somewhere else, “Well…not really but it always felt like it, knowing that you were going to beat the crap out of someone. Now the stakes are just a little higher and I’m nervous nothing for you to worry about.”

You nod to her, watching as she finally settles her weapons, only to take out one of her knives. “Now Cath…Cath is doing the smart thing,” she says, nodding to the apparently sleeping woman, “Getting some rest before a battle is a lot better use of your time than what I’m doing. You should try and get some sleep yourself.”

You nod, moving away from Nem and her nervous equipment checking and taking a seat next to Cath. Her eyes are closed and her breath is shallow, but she opens one as you sit next to her. You nod to her and she nods back as you settle in and try to close your own eyes. You manage to get comfortable only to hear the sound of cloth rustling and then you feel Cath lean against you. Opening one eye shows her shoulder against yours. She looks at you to see if you have any reaction and you just shrug a little bit, closing your eyes and trying to rest, though you think that maybe you see her face twitch before it goes black.

You don’t know how long you sit there in the dark waiting for something to happen, but eventually you hear somebody running towards the building and Bellona lifting her weapon, causing everyone else to shift to a more aware state. Opening your eyes you see a panting man with a small pistol on his hip raises his hands at your building.

“They…they spotted the enemy. Sergeant Walker said…about two hundred total,” he says as he catches his breath, “They’ll be here shortly…so be ready.”

Morrigan tosses her cigarette and nods, chambering a round in her rifle. “Right,” she says, “Tell him we’re ready.”

The man nods before running off back the way he came.
>>
>>41442077
“Alright everyone,” she says, “Make sure to keep each other covered, shoot straight and don’t panic, we can all get out of this in one piece.”

Everyone nods, weapons now ready to fire except for being on safe. It’s only about another ten minutes before you hear the shooting start, a long loud stream of automatic rifle fire that is quickly joined by a variety of other cracks. It’s not long after that you hear the first screams and more firing start as the enemy begins to shoot back, though you have no way of knowing what’s going on at the moment.

Nem looks at Morrigan, who shakes her head. Another few minutes go by and you can hear the firing start to shift as the initial ambush dies down.

You see Morrigan listening to the sounds of the cries and shooting before she heads out of the building, leading you…

Morrigan leads you Northwest, where you can still hear the sound of firing going loud and strong. You can vaguely tell that there are several different kinds of weapons being fired, but you couldn’t say which one belongs to which side. But Morrigan seems to know what’s going on better than you as she leads you towards the market.

Once you get there you see…a confused mess. Throughout the area and along the outskirts you see the flashes of the darkly dressed enemy as they shoot at the defenders. It looks like the initial ambush was mostly a success, but they aren’t defeated yet as you see shapes pushing forwards, firing as they go.
Much of the militia is in the area and though they appear to be shooting back at them, you don’t see all that many go down when they do. A few of the militia are down that you can see and some are hiding. You aren’t sure how long they’ll last.

Luckily the garrison appears to be doing much better. Having holed up inside one of the more solid buildings, the first squad on the scene has a good number of the enemy pinned down and you can see dark shapes littering the ground. The second squad, the other reserve squad, is on the other side of the square, slowly leapfrogging towards the enemy under covering fire.

There are only a few enemies near you, but none are shooting at you as they have more pressing concerns at the moment. Morrigan raises her hand and gestures to…

Morrigan gestures for you to cover her while she moves forward and makes a motion for Nem to come with her. She uses her hand to count down from five and then ducks out around the corner, Nem following her as Cath, Bellona and you duck around the corner and open fire on the unsuspecting attackers.

Taken completely by surprise and facing the wrong direction to be in cover, much less be shooting at you, you manage to take out at least half a dozen of the closest men before they even realize they’re being shot at. While you hold back and only take single shots, both Cath and Bell lay down a withering barrage of fire from their LMG’s, causing the attackers to drop and try to reorient themselves in return.

The few seconds they need to do this provide an opportunity for your allies though, both the garrison and the militia taking advantage of the enemies confusion to make shots while not dodging enemy fire in return. The deadly barrage rips through even more of them, some caught out of cover and more forced to duck down as they’re pinned from multiple angles.

As Morrigan and Nem reach their destination, they take cover behind a semi-permanent stall made out of heavy lumber and begin opening fire at the still slightly confused enemy, ducking a few return shots as splinters fly. Morrigan makes a quick gesture towards the three of you, indicating that you should move up with her and Nem. As the firing in front of you slackens just a bit, you hear the loud booming sound of Sarah’s rifle from behind you somewhere.

We ought to regroup. If this area's more or less won, we should move to help others.

Cool beans. Considering the enemy is taking plunging fire from multiple angles, we can probably call that a wrap.

As Morrigan gestures you forwards you stop firing, hearing your click empty as you finish off a magazine. As Cath and Bellona let up fire you lead the way towards Morrigan and Nem, reloading on the run. As you approach the slight bit of cover offered by the booth you see Morrigan lean out to fire again only to fall back on the ground with a cry of pain.

Feeling your eyes widen you rush forward even faster, managing to skid to a stop as Nem leans out and fires her SMG in several short bursts before ducking back around cover with a grunt and a slightly satisfied smile. As Cath and Bellona make it to the stand, they resume firing, the power of their weapons allowing them to cut through some of the lighter cover the enemy is trying to hide behind and dropping several more.

As you lean down to check on Morrigan she rolls over with a grunt, clutching at her shoulder.

“Are you ok?” you ask, searching for your first aid kit on your belt.

“I’m fine,” grunts Morrigan, raising her hand and showing you that the round impacted high on her shoulder. Though you can see that it did hit her, you don’t see any blood and Morrigan is mostly just grimacing from the pain of what’s likely to be a nasty bruise in short order. “Go, I’m fine,” she says, pushing you up as she grabs her rifle from the ground.

As you look up to fire at the enemy you’re just in time to see them take the final blow to what was likely already wavering morale. The Garrison squad that had been leapfrogging forward under fire finally managed to get into a near direct flanking position, causing the attackers to try and fall back to remain in coherent formation. However the squad that had been remaining inside the house had chosen that moment to advance, catching the enemy again in the flank as they were already falling back. Another dozen men falling under a fusillade of bullets combined with the constant sniping of the militia caused a maneuver to turn into a panic, the men rushing back past the edge of town in desperation to get away.

A few final bursts a fire from Cath and Bellona signal your team’s final contribution to the battle, the enemies shapes disappearing into the horizon as a final few shots ring out from the militia. As Morrigan steps forwards cradling her shoulder you turn to look at her before surveying the carnage. Dozens of men litter the ground, most of them wearing the dark colors of the enemy. Looking about you see the soldiers of the garrison already policing ammo from bodies and checking for wounded amongst the militia.

“Looks like we won,” says Bellona even as she reloads the belt in her LMG, just in case the enemy decides to come back.

“It does,” says Morrigan, though her face is contorted in pain.

“What should we do?” asks Nem.

Morrigan sighs and says…

>We should go find Sarah and Mary.
>Start policing bodies.

“We need to go check on Sarah and Mary,” says Morrigan as she slings her rifle on her unhurt shoulder, wincing as she does so, “Make sure they’re ok.”

“Right,” says Nem, taking the lead as you head back south, “Hopefully they didn’t have too much trouble come their way.”

“I don’t hear any more shooting,” says Bellona as you walk the streets, “I guess they pulled back everywhere.”

“Hopefully,” says Morrigan as she lights herself another cigarette, “If not we’ll probably find out the hard…” As Morrigan stops talking you look to see what caused her silence. Laying on the ground is a body, completely missing its head and a good portion of its upper body, a clear sign of Sarah making a shot.

“Looks like they had a bit of trouble at least,” says Bellona, hefting her weapon.

“Yeah…” says Morrigan, looking around, “I just wonder how much, c’mon lets keep going.”
>>
>>41445643
As you keep walking you discover another two bodies and see at least one window shot out. As you near the likely source of the shots, a relatively tall building with multiple windows on its upper stories, you find a man leaning against the wall, his body untouched except for the knife in his eye.

“Mary got into it,” says Nem with what you think is a bit of awe in her voice.

“Yeah,” says Morrigan, reaching out and pulling the knife from the man’s socket and wiping it on his uniform, “Let’s see what else she left us.”

You don’t find any more bodies in the street until you reach the building where your friends are likely hiding. At the door are three dead bodies, two shot and one with a slash across his throat. As you step inside Nem calls out “Mary! Sarah! It’s us!” as you look around. The inside of the building is absolutely spattered with blood. You notice at least ten or so dead bodies on the first floor, a variety of wounds on their bodies. Up the stairs are a few more, one dangling over the railing at the top.

The sound of movement draws your attention, Mary and Sarah at the top of the stairs. Sarah looks a little worse for wear, a few scratches on her face and body probably from near misses and splinters. Mary looks worse than Sarah, her once grey outfit now liberally smeared and splattered with blood…but on second glance you realize that she doesn’t seem to be hurt at all. All of the blood is from the men lying in the street or downstairs.

“Is it over?” asks Sarah, her voice tired sounding as Mary slightly helps her down the stairs.

“Yeah, it’s over,” says Morrigan as she looks about the room, “We caught them in a pincer movement in the market, took out at least fifty of them I think. They fell back. Looks like you guys took out your share.”

“Most of them are Mary’s,” says Sarah, “They spotted me pretty early and tried to storm the building…”

“And Mary stopped them,” says Bellona as she kneels down to examine a mane with several knife wounds in him.

“It wasn’t too hard,” says Mary, shaking her hand as if she had just finished cleaning, though instead of dust she flings blood, “Just like old times. Sarah helped though, don’t let her say otherwise.”

“Taking potshots with my SMG is not the same as this,” says Sarah gesturing to the mess at the bottom of the stairs.

“Anyway,” says Mary, “Can we get out of here? I don’t like the smell of blood and death any more than you guys do.”

“Right,” says Morrigan, leading you all out of the building and back towards the market.

“So did you have to make such a mess back there Mary?” asks Nem as you walk back.

“I did if we wanted to live,” says Mary, the easy smile she usually has offset by the blood soaking her clothes.

“But…” starts Nem.

“Enough,” says Morrigan with a sigh, “Lets get back to the market and see if we can help out any, I want to get paid if all possible.”

“Then Docs?” asks Bellona with a grin.

“Then Docs,” says Morrigan, “Always time for Docs.”

With a laugh from Nem and Mary, a smile from Bellona and a twinkle in the eye from Cath, you all head back towards the home you defended successfully.
