You aren't jealous.

You aren't!

Jin works hard. And she deserves to grow up ever little bit as much as you do. And her new form is very pretty, and not at all sharp or covered in chitin.

But- Still!
People could pay a bit of attention to you, couldn't they! This is a big deal. Evolution is a big deal. Maybe not as much to humans, but to monsters-

Nin is patting your head, but you are fine and not at all upset about anything. And you aren't frowning. Your face is always like this.

Your harpy friend is currently dazzling the caravaneers- In the literal sense of the word, as she's either reflecting sunlight, or, just as likely, generating her own. Her feathers are a luminous white, and her tailfeathers now spread out- each a trailing length with a single dot of fading black-blue at the end. You've no doubt that she'd look every bit a comet in flight.

If monsters were involved, she'd even do the bit of being on fire and crashing into them.

You fold your arms and huff a little, prompting another round of soothing headpats.

>You should give Jin a proper congratulations. And a hug.
>Console yourself by stroking your snake. That isn't a euphemism, either.
>Counter headpat the moth. You're fine. Definitely.

I'm voting for stroking the snake because I have a feeling she maybe bigger as well, she was in the 80's in her last character sheet update and she might have gotten some levels from the fight some how.

Metal Manipulation is the first one.
>>
>>41433840
Metal generation/shaping/manipulation is pretty much guaranteed, of some variety.
Other should one a Tyrant ability, maybe fear inducement?
Last one is probably a hybrid, maybe defensive self buff?
>>
>>41433868
But Manipulation is 12 letters and it's 13.
>>

Wait, Lyra doesn't have knifes for fingertips? Or are gauntlets just REALLY weird in this setting?
>>
>>41433891
>Last one is probably a hybrid, maybe defensive self buff?
I think there is no way any of our new abilities are defensive. Not with that combination.
I'm pretty sure one of them is a Aura/Presence ability of some sort.

>>41433826
Can Lyra manipulate the metal at her finger/legtips can regular metal or is it just decoraction?
>>
Maybe Power to Lead for the second one?
Perhaps a buff for when we are leading the charge?
>>
>>41433926
Aura/Presence would be cool. Would fit in with the whole blessings she got.

I also think the third word in that one i either Lead or Rule, most likely Something of Lead/Rule
>>

I'd love for molten metal to seep out of her Skulbutt when she uses her offensive powers or something like that. It'd look even scarier to her opponents. I figure it would be for full Hearth Arachne though, but still.

it seems to me that fire is too broad a subject for people to pray to only one god for it and a lot of prayers would be going to the function of the fire not the fire itself. The forge is a direct specific application having a single god watching over it.
>>
>>41434374
There is a god of fire and there are also demigods. We didn't do enough fire stuff for the full-blown god to recognize us, but we did get the attention of the demigod.

iirc, REQM said doing more lava magic before we got the skullbutt would have resulted in a blessing from the god of fire.

Holy hell, we'll have to visit one of their Temples when we get the chance.

At the very least, just to say thanks for showering us with blessings and super-powers.

Perhaps more importantly, we should really see if/what they expect from us in return.

I mean, can we expect to be handed a few Holy Quests at some point?

Odds are at least some of them have Temples in the big Trade Cities, we can drop in while we're there.
>>
>>41434472
Definitely. I'm kinda surprised we arent attracting holy objects at this rate.Just some sort of.. blessing magnet.

This isn't bothering you at all. Not in the least.
And moths hanging off your shoulders or not, you'll prove it!

You skitter into the crowd surrounding your exultant friend, people clearing the way before they've even seen you.
That raises your shoulders, just a bit.

Jin is grinning ear to ear when you reach her, already spreading her wings towards you, showing off her feathers. She's definitely bigger-

"Look! My wings-"
You slide your arms beneath hers, tugging her into your chest and holding her tight.
Her wings wrap right back around you as she snuggles into your chest, her ear tufts tickling at your chin. You lay your head against hers as she hoots softly.

"Congratulations, yes."
"Mmmn."
She looks up from place, clutched against you.

"I am warm now, too."
"And stronger?"
"And stronger!"

Her feet find your legs, and she bounces up and down a bit, excited as a newborn chick-
"I'll show you! I'll prove it, yes!"
"Mhm." You run your fingers through her down-soft hair- Even with your chitin looking as it does, you can still feel through it easily enough. Jin leans into your hand, eyes growing soft, drooping closed.
It doesn't take much to put an owl to sleep in the day, it seems.

"We'll go hunting soon, yes? And we can both show off a bit."
"Yeeeees." She answers, sleepily.

"Both of you?"

You turn, still holding the now drowsing harpy, and find Kenzington himself watching, an oversized ladle in one hand.
He chews his lip as he stares at you, eyes roaming over your whole body before her prods at your skull's new horns.
"These weren't there yesterday..."
>>
>>41434825
Yes. Yes, this is the sort of attention you should be getting.

"Did you just stick 'em on or what?"
Your glare could set fire to a rock.

"'m kidding, kidding. Geeze. Should I be expecting the lot of you to change before we even reach the city?"
You sigh a bit, repositioning the harpy that's started to snore into your chest.
"It does not work like that, yes? It happens when it happens."
"And when is that?"
"Last night?"

He gives you a flat look of his own, and you maintain an innocent smile.

"That's not a real answer, y'know."
"I don't have a real answer. When monsters get strong enough, they change and grow."
"Is it all the fighting, then?"
"Maybe? It probably helps, yes?"

He shrugs, you shrug.
The caravan is packing, people making ready to set off for the morning- There's a few merchants loitering around and staring at Jin's feathers, but all it takes is a glare to set them running for their wagons.

Jin has fallen asleep quite comfortably- although her feet still open and close slowly, ever searching for a perch.

Luckily enough, you've grown one.

It makes you wonder about just what is responsible for the evolutions. And how things are decided. Because this seems much more deliberate than random.

The harpy's talons close readily over the single horn, steadying and securing her at you back. You briefly consider a hood, or just throwing a blanket over her- But you aren't certain if it'd cause her to wake up immediately, or not until you remove it.
Either way is a pain, and she's sleeping already, anyway.

You leave her as is.

And with your harpy safely stowed, you have oter things to attend to.

The wagon for the injured is easy enough to find, marked with a symbol for the human god of healing, and trundling along in the centre of the caravan. You poke your head through the back, and Nin hops from your skull to your shoulders, and into the shadowed confines of the wagon.

You keep pace behind it, holding gently to its frame- too tight, and a burst of speed from the horses would leave you standing with chunks of wagon in hand. Some caution is necessary on your part.

The moth is reliable, though- She finds your injured sister, waving at you from deeper inside the wagon.
"She's fine. Sleepy, but fine."
"Her arm is healed?"
"No."

You tilt your head.

"I am working on it. Trying new things."
Good intentions or not, that sounds rather ominous.
>>
>>41436322
"Maybe you should not try new things on injured people?"
"Its fiiiine. I practiced on injured people."
"Practiced what?"
"Watch!"

She hums to herself as she pokes about the wagon's interior, prying a small jar of soft, white dust from beneath a bench- Her own, no doubt. She struggle with the jar for a solid five minutes before she hands it over to you, one arm extended as she faces away.
You can still see the blush across her neck, though.

With her minor predicament settled, she throws a pinch over the sleeping wolf's arm.
And then, she squats down next to her, wings unfolding, hands held flat over the injured limb.

You watch quietly.

It starts at the centre of her back- where her wings meet her flesh. The golden tracery coating them starts to glow softly. Warmly. And then more, and more, the wagon slowly lighting from within, the patterns casting their golden light. The dust catches her glow, flaring to a sparkling gold, fading into Sheszka's arm.

At least 4 times, though who knows how many have gone unreported. The first unfortunate guard actually wet himself- She was perched on a stump outside camp, and, assuming she was sleeping and planning on giving her what for, he tried to grab her shoulder.

You lean further into the covered wagon, tucking your elbows over the wooden lip of the vehicle, craning your neck for a better look.
You don't feel any magic- Not in the Sara sense, anyway. No mana flow, no manipulation.

You skitter sideways to get a different angle, but the fact that you can't fit into a wagon is a rather significant deterrent.

"It... isn't magic, yes? Something else?"
Nin shrugs, though she doesn't look up.
"I guess."

"You guess?"
"I don't know magic."
"Well, how would you describe what it is you're doing?"
"Magic?"

You wait patiently.

Alright, that was a lie.

"Warmth, maybe?"
"Do you feel cold when you're done?"
"Are you offering to warm me up?"
"Nin!"

She giggles a bit, and shakes her head.
"It feels like... Like I'm giving something to my dust? I can do it straight from my wings, too. It's just harder to aim."

You study her face, a little bit of worry blooming.
She seems to catch your gaze, and flops her head a bit, antennae bouncing.

"You don't need to worry. I don't think it affects me at all."
"It comes from somewhere, yes? Don't do it till you get tired or anything."
She looks thoughtful for a second.

"Well, I do feel tired. Sometimes. After it."

>I don't think REQM is that grim.
The setting is pretty grim, as matter of fact and REQM had been hoping to get a bit of a sanse of that back when we hit the road, actually.

I'm not saying it 'is' that, but thats what the situation implies and the reason for why there is a "don't overdo it" response, because as far as Lyra knows it might be that.
>>
Back and writing!
>>
>>41437548

Don't overdo it is good, if completely ironic advice. In the end, I kind of just hope we stay off the grim path of an otherwise noble bright quest, but REQM's made enough good gains to where I could maybe accept Nin having a long term detrimental power.
>>

>I kind of just hope we stay off the grim path of an otherwise noble bright quest
Well, I can understand not wanting mood whiplash, and I seriously doubt Nin will just fall down dead one day because we didn't tell her not to do it or similar.
But the quest was never meant to be noblebright, we just had absurdly good roll luck with the most powerful starting species and never really felt threatened by anything.

Honestly I also just think even with less reason to worry Lyra is far too much her mothers daughter to not worry on principle.

Was I the only one hoping that "get a closer look" meant finding out about our human form so we can get into wagons and buildings and stuff

We need to reignite Tiny Death Battle Arena.
>>
>>41437716
>Was I the only one hoping that "get a closer look" meant finding out about our human form
Yes.
No one else wants a human form, why the fuck you are so obsessed with that shit is beyond me.
>>
>>41437716
Maybe.
I don't like the whole human-form thing, as it bypasses all the inconveniences and differences that are inherent in having spiderbutt.
>>
>>41437716
Yes.
>>
>>41437716
Human form is easily the dumbest pet obsession a few people here have.
Lyra is a giant spider, deal with it. This nonsensical wanting to bypass all possible challenges and inconvenience is ridiculous.
>>
>>41437823
There's no need to be butt hurt over this....ours is big enough as it is!
>>
are we talking about pet obsessions?
because I am always 100% behind doing more weaving, but we just so happen to roll poorly every time we weave.
>>
>>41437723
Tiny Animal Death Battle Arena is alive and well.

We just re-branded it as something else.

When we set her against a horde of rabbits we called it 'encouraging her' and 'training'.
>>
>>41437823

I think in the last thread, that one anon's idea of how Lyra would react to human form is pretty accurate.

"Oh hey, neat."
SHAA-ZAAM.
*Giant Spider*
>>
>>41437823
As one of the guys who mentioned human form last thread, I was just operating on the assumption that having 2 legs and 8 + 4 eyes meant human form. Now I'm just confused as to why those notes were included when they evidently amount to nothing.
>>
>>41437869
I will happly back the weaving.

Maybe we weave metal thread now.
>>

I'm so down with more weaving. Jin and Lyra need new clothes now anyway.

You mean wire? Cuz that would be cool and maybe painful.
>>
>>41437954
>>41437923
I sort of don't like the idea of "metal thread" because that sounds really uncomfortable and hard to work with.

unless it was like, an additional webbing type, like "tough" and "sticky".
>>
>>41437978
Depends on the property's. If its like semi molten metal/silk hybrid thread then it could be amazingly interesting to work with.
>>
>>41437923
>metal thread
Suddenly I remember that one dwarf fortress story about what happens when a legendary surgeon with adamantine thread stitches up someone who'd lost literally all their flesh.
>>
>>41437978

How would it be painful when it's part of our biology?

No really, how? Are the fucking BURNING magma cracks in our carapace painful?
>>
>>41437902
You mean in the Evo dream?

I think it's something along the lines of our soul keeping an imprint of our past forms.

While we were in the ... magic place ... to pick our new form, imprints or echoes of all our old ones were there too.

Imprints of our past Spider forms were probably there too, they just didn't really stand out from each other.
>>
>>41437936

Weaving gets my vote. I'm hoping for stronger thread.
>>
>>41437996
Lyra would find metal thread easy to work, not to mention we have no idea how much finer the control has become.

If it was an additional web type, it would probably come under "Rigid" threading.
>>
>>41437996
>>41438007

Maybe something like this? https://bato.to/read/_/330310/tensei-shitara-slime-datta-ken_ch3_by_alyschu/15
>>
>>41437902
>Now I'm just confused as to why those notes were included when they evidently amount to nothing.
It was about Lyras soul not being properly scrubbed clean so it retains a certain imprint of her old human self.
>>
>>41437996
>that sounds really uncomfortable and hard to work with
Anon, take a second to think about that you just said in light of the fact that working said material is a process that consists mostly of looking at it, deciding what to do, then watching it shape itself.
Also, explain how it would be uncomfortable when most of our body is tough enough that if you took a rasp to it, you'd probably wear out the tool before filing anything off.
>>
>>41438081
>>41438053
well, either way, I hope we keep our traditional silk too.
>>
>>41437996
Well, whatever we make them from, we're going to have to make SOMETHING.

Shez still needs new clothes. Now Jin has grown. Our size hasn't increased that much but I bet our stuff needs adjusting too.
>>
>>41438124
Course we would. We have yet to lose an ability due to an evo.
>>
>>41438123
>uncomfortable
Anon, wearing metal directly on the skin is horrible.
We would need some kind of underlayer, hopefully made of actual silk.

If we were metal-exclusive, we'd have to stop making dresses for our team, and be stuck on armor-only.
>>
>>41438081
I remember that, I can never get to that point though, always die to a fire-breathing FB, lost my last two forts to one.
>>

Thing is a i did do that when my dwarves got near the thing they just didn't hit it.

My best thought on why that is was because it burnt off everything so there was nothing to hit but was somehow still alive when i used my like 15 Giant Spiders to buy time as cannon fodder.

Kinda like that adamantine dwarf.

It's not really a RE:Monster series even if it's really damn similar.

>>41438372
Beasts die easy. Mob it with 10+ dwarves fully kitted in iron will do the trick. Also use a variety of weapon types, helps solve resistance/immunity problems. Though lets stop spamming the thread with ooc content.

Your fingers drum across the side of the wagon as you resist the urge to lunge forward and bodily drag her from her patient.
Power doesn't come from nowhere. There's a cost- Just like your non-magical abilities giving you headaches and the like.

You push back against your unease and close a few eyes.

You're not that hypocritical-
Whether it worries you or not, you won't order the little moth not to use her own abilities.

"I trust you, yes?"
The simple statement throws a tremor right through her, her antennae standing on end even as she turns her face from you.

"That's- That's only natural! As your herald-"

"Shush, you. Do not overdo it, yes?"
"Mm. I promise."
"I will hold you to that."

She waves you off, still refusing to turn around.

You skitter off to one side, keeping pace next to the wagons, the dull grinding of their wheels against the dirt a counterpoint to your clicking limbs.

Your unease isn't completely gone, but... If it turns to trouble, you'll deal with it, one way or another.
You flip your hair over one shoulder, and look around.

The caravan is in full sway, guards posted all around, wagons rolling, horses tossing their heads and trotting along.
You've got time before your shift- You're stuck with the later shift today. Which doesn't mean much, as you can't ride a wagon anyway, and don't get tired at this pace.

There's a few things you could spend time on.
Clothes for your friends, for one. It'd be easier to do seated, but you won't screw up that badly again. Right?
Or you could check out your own body, you suppose. You've evolved! Who knows what you're capable of now!

A bit of work here and there, and you could probably maybe sorta figure something out, right?

They can't. The beauty of monopolism.

The same way people are expected to repair and/or work normal steel armor.

Find a god damn professional to do it, it's not like metal bending / mending is impossible for a normal mage, difficult? Probably, it just comes naturally to us.

Spools of thread? They could probably weave it like normal thread. Super thread is still thread.

Repairing finished works? Very difficult. Patching something onto it would be.... iffy.

Of course, damaging this stuff in the first place would hardly be easy. If it was hit hard enough to damage it (and you survived) then it just saved your life.

It also wouldn't protect against strangulation, then again conventional armor doesn't protect against that either.

My point was actually that the vast majority of assassination attempts that could succeed are usually not prevent by this. They usually don't involve outright stabbing.
>>
>>41440279
>List few examples
Considering that poisoning alone already takes up at least a very significant amount of all assassination attempts, its a pretty fair list.
>>
>>41440303
You are being a little pedantic, the use of such a garment against the variants of assassination attempts that it could stop would still be great.
>>
>>41440303
It gives them some peace of mind so thats worth something at least, and if they aren't taking precautions against poisoning there isn't much we can do to help them
>>
>>41440332

Assassinations aren't always between several well off nobles engaged in a shadow war where everyone involved has access to everyone else's foodstuffs dingus.

Hell, make the fucking Metal-spider silk have a turtleneck and it'll protect against slit throats too.
>>
>>41440356
>You are being a little pedantic
Possibly true, but what I wanted to get at is that protection against assassination attempts is not the strength of that hypothetical garment, it would help people mfar more who have to fair getting stabbed a lot. Like, for example, traveling merchants, bodyguards and such.

>>41440382
>Assassinations aren't always between several well off nobles engaged in a shadow war where everyone involved has access to everyone else's foodstuffs dingus.
You realise that hiring someone to put something poisonous into somes food is way easier and cheaper than hiring someone who is willing to day on failure of his job?
Its especially the not-well-off-nobles who would go for poison.
>>
>>41440423

Hiring someone to drag someone else into an alley and shank them is even easier and cheaper than it is to hire someone to poison them.
>>
>>41440445
>Hiring someone to drag someone else into an alley and shank them is even easier and cheaper than it is to hire someone to poison them.
If the person you want to kill is so unimportant he has no bodyguards, or is too stupid to employ them when going out, then this would be true, but someone like that would certainly not be helped by any sort of protective shirts.
>>
>>41440445
>Hiring someone to drag someone else into an alley and shank them is even easier and cheaper than it is to hire someone to poison them.
If they can drag that dude into the alley, how exactly is the chainmailshirt supposed to help them? They notice they can't get through the shirt, so they stab him in the eyesocket, problem solved.
>>
I can't wait for some hman asshole thinks they can intimidate Lyra somehow, like some arrogant noble or something and even though the odds are pretty low but god damn would it be satisfying to see Lyra try and be scary for once rather than unitentionally.
>>
>>41440474

Not everyone has bodyguards 24/7, sometimes a person just steps away to sit on a balcony, and heads are a very tiny target to aim for.

Poison is a common and useful tool for assassinations, but a knife in the dark and an arrow / bullet are just as common, hell, they might be MORE common considering that this is a magical setting and having someone able to either cure poison or make something able to cure poison on hand probably isn't difficult.

All clothing starts somewhere.

It just so happens that yours- and your friends' and your family's- starts with silk.
From your butt, but you generally avoid mentioning that.

You take a few sheets, working them together into a pair of sizable shorts- Adding a drawstring is actually a bit of work, but not too hard, in the end. You set them aside as you finish the last stitch.
Your sewing isn't anything special, or speedy, but it'll hold.

And Arachne silk is Arachne silk, after all.

The shirt is- well, there's no way around it. It is a t-shirt. But you're pretty sure that that sort of thing already exists? It's not like you've built an airplane or anything.

Jin mostly uses a breastwrap and loincloth- She's still set, though you could make her more when you've got time.

You play around with your silk for a while. Just getting used to it again. And more importantly, getting used to not tying your hands together.
Really, you just have a bad track record when it comes to silk.

You're plucking strings of silk between your fingers when one vibrates... wrong.

The tone is off, and the string feels stiff almost.
You hold it up to your eyes, and immediately notice that it's shot through with streaks of your latest colour addition.

Specifically, metal.

You twist it, watching the light washing over it, bending and shaping it-
It behaves more like wire than silk, but more like silk then wire?

That's a really crappy way to describe it, but you're drawing a blank when it comes to descriptive terms for some sort of metal/cloth hybrid. Well, it certainly doesn't seem easy to work with.

You're distracted from pondering the miracles of the universe and your own silk by someone shouting your name.
Time to go.

Metal web can wait.

You stash your wire-stuff and Sheszka's freshly made clothing, skittering up to the wagon line.
You follow along at an easy pace, waving to yawning adventurers dragging themselves into anything with room to carry them.

Your gear is stowed in its usual space- a wagon stuffed full of adventurer gear.
And adventurers, for that matter.

Your undershirt goes over your light tunic, Ezzy is shifted to a little nest on your butt, and you lay your hands across the scarred surface of your plate.

And stop.

There's an odd feeling- now more than ever, in the back of your mind. Like an itch, but not quite? Something half mental, half physical, hovering at the edge of your consciousness.

Cake strides up next to you, rapping her knuckles against your leg.

"Oi- Don't suppose I could catch a ride?"
"Hm?"
"I've got short legs. It's a pain, right? And you're out two passengers. So, I'm thinking-"

You motion the halfling mage for quiet, trying to recreate the feeling, trying to pinpoint it.
"What're ya?"
"Trying something, yes. A moment."

The woman raises an eyebrow- and then both eyes shoot open so fast you think she may well have given herself whiplash from it alone.

The feeling snaps inwards- outwards, a tingle starting from your fingers and exploding up your arms, across your body.
Your chitin swells, the weirdest feeling you've received in your short life, coating your body in a split-second, closing around your throat, cupping your chin in a flexible and impossibly hard shell.
>>
>>41441834
The mage is making vague gurgling noises as you examine yourself- It's segmented, just like your hands- precise pieces fitted in perfect harmony, covering your body in an entirely new set of armour.

The lines of colour are shot right through your new coat, forming abstract patterns over you.
You twist and turn, checking your limbs- You've got as much flexibility as ever. Maybe more.

Cake is still staring blankly at you.

No, it's Metal Chitin, because magical spider biology.

The "lines of color" and probably the crown helmet if we get it are probably the Tyrant influence.

It wouldn't make sense for it to be just regular chitin considering it affected all our limbs.
>>

Pretty sure "body" here means the human part we normally cover in armour.

Not anymore so than Lyras regular chitin is, at least the text implies no difference between that and her chitin otherwise.

No it isn't it is explicitly not metallic because she has noticably metallic looking veins in the tips of her finger and legs, which obviously means the rest of the chitin is not metallic looking.

I would assume that this is Hearthbound based ability which gives us a kind of alloy chitin armour, which would account for the increase in hardness without loss of flexibility.

The armour is a tyrant ability-
It is harder than your regular chitin, and breaking it wouldn't result in having to lounge around until you shed.
It isn't metal- You've got some veins of metal in the chitin, but it's still bug bits. The gauntlet comments was more about the shape of it all- Even more so after your ability.
>>
>>41442327
>That's actually what tanks do these days.
Thats a thing tanks have been doing since forever, but we are not a tank.
And strapping another breastplate over this wouldn't be reinforcing what tanks put additional armour over anyway.

I mean we could put additional armour over our spiderbody.

Next time we stop by a forge / fight something huge and made of metal we make a mace.

Because sometimes piercing and slashing, which are covered by our spear, claws, and legs just aren't as effective as blunt damage.

Our spearfighting is higher than our arachne combat skill.
While we use our legs often, we definitly use the spear more as main combat weapon.

And we haven't risen in spearfighting skill in good 50 threads or so I just realise.
>>
>>41442689
>need something more smashy than our fists.

I'm not sure that's an option. Would any mace be able to take the strain of us hitting something at full strength?

Our brute strength is kind of retarded now.

A spear still has its uses for its reach and flexibility of use. A mace is mostly about brute force smashing. Using such a weapon would probably force us to hit things more gently than we are able to avoid destroying our weapon with every swing.
>>
>>41442909
>Would any mace be able to take the strain of us hitting something at full strength?
We just need to make one that can. I'm pretty sure a regular one you buy on the market couldn't.
One made of solid steel possibly with enchanted stones? Definitly.
>>
>>41442909
Enchant it?

But then I guess if we're going to have to make it magic to not break, we may as well get a better suited weapon and then put different enchant on it.

You spare a glance for the small woman rocking side to side next to you- You're half afraid she'll collapse and froth at the mouth.
Well- Halflings are light, anyway.

You pull her up from the ground like a small doll, dropping her safely behind you.

In Sheszka's spot.

You have a sneaking suspicion that, perch or no, noone gets to touch Jin's spot.

With the halfling secured, your attention focuses back on the armour. It's a bit odd that there's no helmet-

And as soon as you think that, chitin starts to slide over your cheeks, sweeping your ears back, closing over your face- You manage a single gasping breath before your head is wholly swallowed by your armoured form.

You let it go moments later.

You can see out of it- all six of your eyes even. You pluck your breastplate from the wagon, holding it in the sunlight, admiring the armoured for that is yourself.

It looks like the chitin is reinforced across your skull and face, thick lines denoting your chin, ears- small jewel like things lie over where each eye would centre, amidst a nearly flat plane of chitin covering your face.
You look menacing, frankly. There's the little spiked bit at the centre of your forehead, five prongs, descending from the central one- It almost looks like a crown, haha.

And then it sparks ever so slightly. And then it ignites, and you're nearly screaming in your new helm as a crown of fire forms around your brow, blazing red hot , highlight the helm.
>>
>>41442909

In my head, I have Lyra using some horrific fusion of a flanged mace and a pure-metal Kanabo / Tetsubo full-sized in one hand to fully take advantage of her SPIDER STRONK.
>>
>>41443282
You're catatonic for practically a minute, before you snap back into reality, pawing at the helmet, trying to clear away the nightmare that is an automatic crown- The faceplate sweeps away, the encasing shape slides down, and you breathe a sigh of relief seconds before you emit a sound that is likely only detectable by dogs.

The crown is sitting above you, independent of any helmet, the clearest sign of divine authority-

Your armour flies up and down your arms, snapping open and closed in a frenzy as you frantically try to repress this godforsaken burning godsdamn fire crown oh gods oh gods oh gods-

You let loose a final sigh of relief as the fire dies slowly, meeting the central crown shape and vanishing.

"Whu- Wazzat a crown?"
You freeze.

>she can also just metalbend people's weapons into pretzels easy peezy.

Or just bend/snap/crush them the normal way.

A lot of anons have suggested some awesome sounding metalbending combat techniques, but unless we encounter something seriously high level, then they're worthless.

Some suggested metalbending our enemies armour. But we can literally just punch through any conventional plate mael.

No, smoky isn't the BBEG. He's moved beyond merely being the final boss. He's a franchise villain, a foe with neither peer nor equal, untouchable within any single narrative. Only a grand fellowship of all RE:X protagonists at the apex of their stories can hope to match his terrible power.
And even then, snek would fuck it up for everybody.

"....-thing."
"Lyra? Wha?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"

You spin, seizing the diminutive mage, shaking her back and forth, desperation gleaming in your eyes.
"NOTHING! THERE WASN'T ANYTHING YES-"
"Oh gods did you snap-"
"NOTHING NO CROWNS NO NO-"
"HELP SHES GOING TO EAT ME OH GODS-"

"What? Lyra!"
"NOTHING NOTHING-"
"I'M TOO SMALL EAT GEORG HES BIGGER"
"What the hells are you-"
"What is she even wearing?!"

_________________________________________________________

Twenty minutes later, You are both clattering along behind Kenzington's wagon, currently being subjected to a lecture on proper behaviour.

"Why'm I here anyway? She's the one who-"
"You're bloody well here because being yelled at is far'n away different fromn being goddamn eaten! The hells wrong with you?"
"She's a giant spider! They eat people!"
"No they goddamn don't! She eats bears and anything else stupid and large enough to get near her!"
"Well, I-"
"No. No! The only condition you've got going for you is the stupid, and stupid don't fill noones stomach."

Cake grumbles a bit, but holds her tongue.

"An' now- Lyra, please gimme a real reason for why you were screaming in the idiot's face like a lunatic."
"Um."
"Kid."
"She saw something, and I didn't want her to tell anyone, yes."
"Uh- It's not somethin' that's gonna affect the caravan, is it?"

"No! No. It's just- It is something stupid, yes? I just wanted to keep it quiet."
"What is it, then?"
"Just a piece of my powers, yes? From my change."
"I see? Sure."

Nin is currently behind you again.
Thus your silence on your account.
>>
>>41444679
"Well, whatever, jus' don't be screaming anymore. Either of you."
"Yes, sir."
"Yes."

You skitter away, half ashamed, and all exhausted, falling into position next to the caravan, taking up your place as a guard.

"It was just a power, then? It doesn't seem like such a big deal, Lyra."
"Mmm."
Nin snorts, feet drumming against your shell.

"What was it, anyway?"
"Just something small, yes?"
"Lyra has a very nice crown, yes."

Absolute silence falls over your surroundings.

Jin, you traitor.

Personally, I think we lost nothing from it, because Lyra either over-qualified, or the Gods just said "Fuck it." and gave it to us.

???????? ??????
Armoured Chitin
One mystery solved. Two remain. There is a pretty good chance the second in [Something] of Rule.
>>
>>41444969

Right to Rule and Metal something or other.
>>
>>41444993
The second one is probably metal in silk, seeing as we already saw we have metal in our silk.
>>
>>41445085

I think that's less a "Power" and more just a thing that happens.
>>
>>41445085
Possible, but our silk being fire resistant isn't listed as extra power either, its just part of the package deal.
>>
>>41445085
which reminds me, is our metal silk heat resistant at all since it comes from us?
>>
>>41445139

Spider silk by default is a fire retardant unless it is really dry, the only thing that burns about it is the dust that settles on it.

Sure it can MELT and be warped, but it won't catch on fire.
>>
>>41445139
also how strong is our strong silk now?
>>
>>41444923
So are able to combine metals together to make stronger ones? Like say we take the river metal from our glaive and add it to our spear?
>>
>>41444705
Crap. So, how should we punish Jin for this treachery?
>>
>>41445179
And more importantly, can it still be safely used for bondage?

That sounds like a reference to killing with our venom, but we have used that, so it wouldn't be 0/3.
What was this?

>THE PEOPLE BEFORE THE RULER: 1/1
I'm guessing this is when we almost broke ourself defending Oakring?

>RULE FOLLOWS STRENGTH: 1/1
Can't think what this was.

>TAKE FLESH, TAKE BLOOD: 0/3
Vampire Arachne Evolution avoided. Thank fuck.

>THERE IS NOTHING BEYOND VISION: 1/2
I have no clue what this is.
>>
>>41445366
Rule Follows Strength is getting the pack remnants under our control.
>>
>>41445255
Is 5/6 the amount of species we have befriended? (We got Harpy, Wolf, Moth, Snek, Non-monster humanoid covered)
>>
>>41445366
>Can't think what this was.
Probably when we got the pack to follow us after breaking their previous alpha in half.
>>
>>41445411
It seems to be refering to the Forest races and which have members follow us.
For Arachne its probably Aria in the dungeon that counted for us.
Which would be hilarious.
>>
>>41445366
1. Was more killing large things with venom, which you don't really do.

2. Is correct.

3. Is crushing the wolves then becoming alpha.

4. Is correct.

5. Is the arachne's ridiculous senses becoming something crazy- Future sight, or 360 vision, that sort of thing.

>>41445322
It would have been a very direct line to the Old Queen. Earth powers, Extra authority in the forest, that sort of thing. The ability to 'adopt' other forest races' powers momentarily.
>>
>>41445411
I think it's the Forest races we've united in out party. Spider, Harpy, Wolf, Moth and Snek.

If we'd collected one more pokemon, we'd have qualified.
>>
>>41445434
>It would have been a very direct line to the Old Queen. Earth powers, Extra authority in the forest, that sort of thing. The ability to 'adopt' other forest races' powers momentarily.

not sure if I'm upset we didn't get this or not.
>>
>>41445424
Well our own family qualifying felt kinda cheating for the achievement, although dungeon bit feels less so.
>>
>>41445484
>not sure if I'm upset we didn't get this or not.
I see no reason to be upset, Lyra got her own cool thing.
She doesn't need to imitate the old queen for its own sake, even if she will ever be a ruler in a similar way.
>>
>>41445484
Nin would not have survived that.

By which I mean she'd have a heart attack out of sheer glee.
>>
>>41445467
We should've gotten ourselves a lizard....Hey Sunni!
>>
>>41445484
same, while I joke about becoming queen I kinda don't want it to happen, or at least not until near endgame. Plus if we do become a ruler I would prefer it to be because of something we did, not trying to follow someone else's footsteps.
>>
>>41445484

I'm kinda glad we didn't get it, it's far too limited for my tastes.

Lyra as she is now is a hard-fucking-core adventurer with a ludicrously strong bag of tricks.

As Arachne Queen we would have been limited by the Forest, rather than growing beyond it.

So we would have become really strong in the Forest for this evo, but we would have stagnated just as much.
>>
>>41445434
Why is it 5/6 rather than 5/7?
Arachne, Harpy, Werewolf, Lamia, Moth, Lizard, Wendigo.
Are the lizards so far gone they don't even count on a spiritual level anymore?
>>
>>41445434

So, what would Seranthis think of us as we are now?
>>
>>41445615
No see we needed a Lizard so that we could challenge the Wendigo gym to earn the Forest Badge.
>>
>>41445615
Lizards abandoned the pact, they're no longer considered a piece of the forest's society.

>>41445636
