The affairs of the beginning of the week settled, you dispatch for a messenger to go and tell the Khazidite Chieftain of the impending ceremony. Once done you order a great feast be made ready and ceremony be prepared to welcome this key moment in unifying the realm. For, while the Khazidites exist peacefully and in your realm, they are both part and apart from it. You wish to change this.

The night prior you clean yourself and have your servants prepare your finest garments for the next day. As you sit on your bed, the night prior, you look at the crown at rest on its display, adjacent to your helmet with the crown attached to it. This, you realize, is the first time you've worn this crown since your ascension. And, you remind yourself, it will not be the last. For as King, you must deal with the world through your words, not only through your sword. Nodding confidently that you stride the righteous path, you go to sleep.

The next day, a sizeable crowd has gathered outside the steps of the Royal Castle, the newly built Khazidite Lodge in full gleaming view. Men and women of all ages and all walks of life look up as you, flanked by your closest advisers and nobles in the court, face down the portly figure of the Bohdan, the Khazidite Chieftain, who is surrounded by the largest and eldest warriors in his tribe. Between the two of you is his daughter, Aditya, who holds aloft the ritual knife of her people and speaks to her father, "Chieftain Bohdan, tenth son of the sons of Khazad, do you offer the honor of a place in our tribe, alongside our people, with our blood, to King Valorian Vastov?" The Chieftain nods and extends his hand proudly, "This, I offer." She cuts his hand quickly and cleanly, before turning to face you.

"King Valorian Vastov, do you accept the offer of our Chieftain. Do you accept our tribe, our people, and our blood as offered by Chieftain Bohdan?"

"I accept this offer." You say and extend your hand, which is quickly sliced by the shaman's expert hand. You don't even feel the cut until you see the blood. You and Bohdan walk towards one another and grip hands tightly, then grip one another's wrists. "Then so it is done, King Valorian, you are a member of our tribe now. Welcome, Khazidite Valorian Vastov." Cheers erupt from all over, you can hear the celebrations from as far down the road as the Khazidite Lodge and can see the jubilation of the people. Both you and Bohdan wrap your hands and proceed to lead the party inside the castle to the Great Hall.

Two hours later after food had been both served and consumed, you, your Court, the Khazidite Chieftain, and his men and women of importance are mingling and chatting with one another whilst you sit in your throne and look out across the occasion. You take a drink from your goblet before deciding that it would be wise to be personable.

[Naturally, she won't leave your side, as per your orders.]

You head over to the Khazidite Elders who seem a bit self-conscious in their long furs and other such garments. When you approach they cross their arms over their chests and bow their heads, "Hail, Brother-King Valorian." You nod and they resume a normal stance, "We are very grateful for your strides at accepting us as members of the realm. Your father, it seemed, feared us, and left us alone. Truthfully, you have our thanks." You return gratitude to them and discuss idle things of little importance before one of them, the eldest of their number, speaks. "Sire, have you heard of the Bottomless Stair?" When you indicate that you haven't he nods, "Oh yes, in the Kruskovi Mountains there exists one that houses ancient secrets and horrors. These things wait only for the right circumstances to awaken." You nod, remembering a similar rumor appearing in one of Ralero's reports, and make polite conversation before heading to your nobles, followed by Elsabeth.

The armored woman chuckles, "These Khazidites are very superstitious. My sisters and I have combed through these mountains more than I'd like to admit, there is no Bottomless Stair." You take her words to heart, but not too closely.

You walk over to a small group of your nobles who bow their heads as soon as you draw near. "Honored Sire, congratulationst." The man in the group leads the conversation, and from your admittedly shaky memory on the subject, you remember him as Baron Mikhael Orlov. Next to him is his wife, Baroness Ivana, and a young widow, Baroness Casparov.

Mikhael starts speaking, "Sire, my wife and I were just discussing with Baroness Casparov the newest fashions come out of La Faresse. Behold, these hats are striking and most elegant with a feather, don't you think, sire?" The two women wear ornately large hats made of a clearly excellent material with massive feathers hanging up and backwards.

"Certainly, they are very fetching." You decide to be polite and give them a compliment as you scan the room. Count Grigori is off in a corner, sitting with a few of his hangers-on who look around the room regularly. Count Piotr is talking with Bohdan and apparently being quite the socialite. The two are laughing heartily over something that Piotr is telling him. You take note of his actions and return to the conversation.

Ivana smiles politely, like a doting mother, "Oh, your Majesty, have you had the opportunity to make a trip to La Faresse? It's a beautiful land, full of gardens and fountains! We had the opportunity to visit their vineyards and truly, it was enchanting." You nod along and act politely to the woman.

You tolerate the conversation for as long as you can take it before making your exit and going to speak to...

You walk towards Bohdan and Piotr. The large Chieftain opens his arms, cutting Piotr off and embraces you closely, which you return politely. "Ah, welcome, brother! It is wonderful to have you as blood with me. I was just getting to know your man here, the Count says that he is teaching military strategy to your men. He seems very intelligent on the subject." You nod your head and smile at the older man, "Yes, the Count is quite the strategist." The older man bows his head politely and you talk conversationally for a bit before eventually corning the conversation.

"So, Piotr, how is Amaar doing since you've left?" He politely responds, "Excellently, thanks to your rule, sire." Perfect, you think, now he's mine. "I'm very pleased to hear you are so supportive, Count. In that case, I realize that due to the...nature of affairs upon my coronation that we failed to observe a fairly common rite." The Count's smile drops just a few teeth as you go on, "I would like us to go to Amaar and have you take the Oath of Allegiance, very soon, if that is alright with you." You offer him a chance to back down, but know that he can't.

"Why, certainly, sire, I would be honored to swear my name to you. Simply tell me when, and I shall order a great ceremony be prepared for the occasion." You nod and thank him, deciding on the day after tomorrow. He excuses himself and heads out, presumably to prepare. You chat with Bohdan for a while longer and extricate yourself. As you leave Elsabeth snorts, "That Count of yours is a slick fish." You nod and give her your thoughts, "Yes, I am not fully trusting of him."

You walk over to Grigori's group who, despite looking around menacingly and unkindly, as soon as they see you bow down and wilt away. Grigori looks up and nearly jumps from his seat as he stands quickly and bows, "Ah, noble sire, thank you for the invitation." You wave your hand and regard him and his men coolly. "Quite the group of guards you have brought with you, Grigori, do you doubt my ability to maintain order and security in my own home?" His eyes widen as you tighten the screws, "No! Of course not, sire, I would never do such a thing. I am, as always, your loyal servant." You smile, this is almost too easy, you say internally.

"That is excellent news, Grigori, such excellent news that I shall follow it with good news of my own. Count Grigori, how would you care to take the Oath of Allegiance with all haste? It appears that with the rush of my coronation we missed such an important event." His eyes widen hopefully as he bows again, "Oh yes, sire, I would be overjoyed to make such a promise to a lord as grand as yourself. When do you wish to have this wonderful event?"

You ponder on it. You could hold it tomorrow, before Piotr, or the day after, but that may be delaying your campaign a bit too much. Alternatively, you could have it now. Those gathered are, essentially, peers of the realm. It would be fitting, though it wouldn't have the public impact of the populace seeing it. However, he is just a coward.

"Your excitement is admirable, Count Grigori, to that end, why don't we just go ahead and take that now?" He nods eagerly and you walk over to the throne. "Attention, all!" The room goes silent at your voice and turns to face you. Count Grigori is doing his best to stand tall, though he comes up not even past your shoulders. You draw your sword from its sheath quickly and raise your goblet in the other hand. You pour wine down the length of the blade and begin speaking,

"Count Grigori, may this wine represent the blood that you are willing to spill in my name. May this sword represent the steel you will carry for my banner. And may this occasion be one eternally present in your mind until such a day that I die. Do you swear your loyalty to me and my house, with you and all your house?" He nods eagerly and drops to his knees, "Yes, sire, I promise my loyalty."

You tap the wine-soaked blade on his shoulders before letting a droplet hit him between the eyes. "Then, as King of Vastov, I accept your Oath and welcome your loyalty in service as one of my Peers of the Realm. Rise, Count Grigori." The assembled group claps and he bows repeatedly as he stands up. You wave and the crowd goes back to their conversations as you hand the blade to a servant to wipe it clean.

Elsabeth adjusts her gauntlets as you step down from the throne. "What state was the kingdom in when you received it?" She asks, seemingly aghast at the conditions of your nobles. You simply respond, "A worse one than it is now, Sister Elsabeth." You are given back your sword and return it to its sheath.

You walk over the Chieftain's daughter and she spreads her arms and deeply bows, "Hail, King Valorian." Her face, as serene and wise as always, focuses on you solely for the first time since you've met her. "Thank you, sire, for your gifts to m-our, people." You nod, "It is my pleasure. The Khazidites are just as important to me as the rest of my kingdom, and I want to make it known to all that my priorities are not only military."

She offers a very small smile, "I have not seen such joy in my Father's face in many years." She looks past you to her father, who is laughing amongst the Barony, leaning against the Baron as they enjoy his story hugely, it seems. "His health was flagging before you arrived, and I was unable to do anything to improve him. Yet, your presence seems to have given him drive to live again."

You look at the young shaman and scramble, trying to think of something relevant to say. "How are your studies?" You ask and she nods, "The mages at the Guild are extremely welcoming, and there is an incredible collection of tomes there. Truly, the stories of the great sorcery in Vastov are honest. I could spend the rest of my life reading in there." You smile politely at the young woman and look back at Sister Elsabeth, who is turned away and scanning the room.

Aditya's voice speaks up, "Sire, forgive my question, but, does the shieldmaiden draw your eye?" Her voice is soft, but you cough, looking at the young woman and you...

"Not even slightly. Her nature is far too akin to one of my honor guard for both of our likings. She is not fond of me, and I am grateful for her service." Aditya nods, another small smile on her face, "That is of great comfort, sire. She portends ill, and I would not wish you to be a part of." You raise your brow and then nod with understanding, "Ah, of course, your visions. You've had one of her, then?" The shaman nods and combs back a bit of her hair as she faces the tall woman, "She is strong, but even the strongest metal can be broken."

You look at the Maven's dutiful stance. "Can I save her by sending her back to her people?" The shaman shakes her head and responds, "I am unsure sire, I do not even know the circumstances that would cause such a thing. It is possible that you doing so would be the cause of it." You nod, "The future is a delicate subject."

Putting it out of your mind as best you can, you face Aditya, "Tell me, have you seen visions of me?" The young woman flushes slightly on her darkened skin and shakes her head, "No, sire, and it is strange. I usually receive visions of a new person a few days before meeting them, or after, and yet, I cannot divine anything about you. For some reason, you appear to be free of the ties of fate."

As she mentions fate, something clicks in your mind, distant though it is. Someone else mentioned fate, who was it...As you think about it Elsabeth's voice interrupts you. The woman is close to your shoulder, "Sire, there is a disturbance. One of the Watch in town noticed something that shouldn't be. A brazier on the wall was out when it should have been lit. Beside it was a dead Watchman."

"Order the Watch to go search for anyone suspicious. I will join them." She walks off quickly and as you go to leave, Aditya speaks up, "Sire, can I come with you? I feel that it would be a good show of gratitude to join you on this potentially dangerous task." You nod and bring her along with you.

The two of you leave and step out into the cool summer's eve. Elsabeth is nowhere in sight, which is confusing to you, as she left just a minute ago. Let's talk about Count Piotr. His loyalty is ??? and from interactions I'm going to assume that doesn't mean he's earnestly loyal to us. He's an oppurtunist and will stick with us as long as he has to or as long as its in his best interests. If it were to his advantage he'd turn on us.

There are a couple ways we can address this. We can either bond with him and try to earn his genuine loyalty, we can consistently be 'in his best interests' by buying him, or we can try to put him in a position where he has no choice but to stay loyal to us.

What do you guys think?

[Someone really wants to win today!]

Your keen ears pick up a sound, a dull thud above you. Looking up you see Elsabeth, suspended in the air, a wire around her neck, and her hands just barely protecting her neck from being fatally cut as she limply kicks around. "Elsabeth!" You call up and jump, swiping your sword at the wire which pops and the heavy woman drops onto you. The sound of feet, ever so light as they are, running off across the roof reaches your ears before it becomes inaudible.

You heft the woman onto your shoulders as Aditya follows, keeping a close watch on you as the two of you enter the foyer. Aditya quickly says, "Let me try to heal her." You nod and step back.

The young woman raises her hands and closes her eyes before pressing them into Elsabeth's neck. A few tense seconds pass before Elsabeth gasps and leans forward, coughing and hacking as she rubs her now undamaged neck. "Thank you," she whispers hoarsely. You look at the Maven who is cursing under her breath and flushed red. "Some guard I am."

You ignore that for the moment and ask, "What happened?" She nods and coughs once more before talking.

"I walked out to carry your orders and, as soon as I did, I heard the wire sliding against the ground. I was lucky that I managed to catch it in time or I'd be dead. The damnable coward was incredibly strong. I pushed forward with all my strength and weight, and he still hefted me off the ground like my mother did when I was a child."

You nod your head and see several Watchmen running into the hall. They receive your instructions and gather a team, but you are doubtful that they will catch whomever it was that clearly was expecting you to arrive.

The Guard doesn't stand a chance. "Aditya, stay here with her. Make sure she's ok." Without waiting for an answer you run outside and climb up the wall of the keep as quickly as possible. Once you arrive on the roof you look around, seeing absolutely nothing.

You step forward carefully, watching every shadow and corner, your sword in hand. A soft noise alerts you, but unlike an amateur you don't turn to face it, instead waiting as it draws closer and then turn, sword sweeping as you do so.

Metal collides with metal as a hooded figure speaks out in a soft hissing voice, "You are bold, King Valorian....none of my prey come out to fight, they usually cower in their beds and wait for me to cut their necks." You step forward and swing, but this time your sword hits only air. The figure vanishes again.

When they appear again, your soldier senses still giving you the edge you need, you parry the knife aimed for your back and this time reach out to grab the attacker. You fingers touch nothing but cloak, and when you pull them back, they're shredded raw and covered in blood.

"You're fast, Valorian King.....but I am faster." You hear the landing of the attacker, and turn to swing, but this time a knife bites into your leg and you wince, but feel the attack hit a knife again, though the attacker is forced to roll away and vanish into the shadows again.

Your temper mounts, immensely, more than it ever has before. The wound burns searing hot, and when the attacker appears again you sweep the weapon and this time an explosion of wind blasts out from the sword and throws the attacker clear off the roof. Shreds of the apparently dangerous cloak drift in the air as the razor sharp winds delivered a deadly blow, you're certain.

You run over, eager to continue fighting, but see the shreds of cloak only, wrapped around a dagger which is sticking out of the wall and very clearly forming a rope down to the ground. The attacker is nowhere in sight.

guys this is the mask we could potentially recruit them.

>There is word of a hired blade, an assassin who can never be caught or seen when he doesn't wish it, who has spilled more noble blood than any other man. He is referred to only as "Mask".
Is who we are fighting

>Word has started to reach you of a great work on the border of the Order of the Tower with La Faresse. From what you hear, there will be a great contest of some description in the near future.
Will probably be mentioned when we visit.
>There is a hollowed mountain in the Kruskovi Mountain Range near our home that is supposedly home to demons and monsters that lie dormant until such a time they are ready to wreak havoc.
The axes could be in here, and we heard of this place from the elders as well.

>The Goddess of the West Sea Raiders is a cruel one who delights in bloodshed. Her followers no less vicious.
Will be a problem only when we retake lost vorath.

You feel rage soaring through you, unchecked and out of control, and for the first time since you were a man, you feel fear. Struggling to control your trembling frothing fury you put the sword away and climb down the side of the building, using all of your force of will to manage to get to the bottom without jumping off in a heated rage-filled moment.

"ADITYA!!!" You roar, your throat hurting from the pain of the shout as you step forward into the foyer. She runs towards you and gasps, stepping backwards, "Sire! You are poisoned, very badly! Let me help!" You swipe at her with your hand, opening your mouth to inevitably swear, before Elsabeth grabs you around the face and holds you back.

You struggle against her, hard, kicking and swinging your elbows, but in your rage, Aditya manages to touch your leg. The temper soars downwards, almost immediately, as the wound closes and you breathe out slowly and heavily, as if you had just run a great distance. You tap Elsabeth's elbow and she releases you.

"Forgive me, King Valorian, but I would not want you to compromise your authority with such behavior." Elsabeth's face is businesslike as always, but you nod in thanks to her. You thank Aditya again for her service, and now you head back inside.

You spend the better part of two hours trying to find any sign of the assassin, but your efforts prove ultimately fruitless. Whether that is because he is deliberately trying to not be found, or whether he left, you cannot say. However, eventually, your party dies out without your presence.

Aditya and Elsabeth stay with you while you search and ensure that you are kept safe as best they can. It appears to work, as the moon reaches its full height, there is no sign. The Watch double around the keep and several of them post outside of your room and patrol beneath and on the roof. Eventually, Aditya becomes too tired to be useful and heads to the Mage's Guild to sleep.

"Sire, I believe you are well. If it would do your mind good, I can watch over you in your sleep." You have combed the castle, including all of its rooms, three times at this point. You look at Elsabeth and

"Very well, but if you hear or see anything strange, wake me immediately." She promises to do this and you retire to sleep, your sword by your side.

~Secondday~

You awaken, a bit surprised to do so, and when you do Elsabeth nods, blearily, "I am pleased to see you are safe, sire." You see her state and order her to go to sleep. She shakes her head, "Sire, I cannot protect you," she begins before you override her, "I am the King and I order you to sleep." She sighs and nods, "Yes, sire, but I will sleep only for two hours, a quick warrior's sleep should be good enough."

Accepting this, you let her sleep and change for the day. Your schedule is relatively clear, but you remember you intended to go talk to Eleisha yesterday. She's staying in the nearby manor for guests of the King. You could go talk to her. Your army, you also remember, is busy marshaling near the castle. They could be inspected.

You head out to the muster area and walk to the commander's tent. The assembled sergeants stop their discussion and bow, "Sire, we did not expect to see you arrive so soon. Unfortunately, the army is still in the process of assembling. They should be here fully tomorrow afternoon. Would you like to see what is gathered?" You nod and offer for them to lead the way.

Word spreads quickly, apparently, because as soon as you step out of the tent the spearmen are lined up in their polished chain shirts and helmets, holding up their spears and standing tall. Behind them are the Men-at-Arms with their swords held at attention. The sergeants clear the way for you to talk between the lines of your soldiers. You stride through and look upon the army. These men appear dedicated and ready to fight, the fear caused by inexperience appears gone from their eyes.

You walk through twice and take good attention to detail, finding that their armor is kept immaculately as they are eager to make you proud of your army. Once completed you raise your hand, "Royal Army!" They snap their boots together, "Dismiss." And, just as easily as they formed, they disperse back through the camp as you nod, impressed. The sergeants stand proudly and you give a stern nod, "Well done, gentlemen, carry on." They salute you and return back to planning logistics as you leave.

A few minutes later you enter the guest manor and knock on Eleisha's door. "A moment, please." You wait for thirty seconds and the door opens to reveal Eleisha. She curtsies low, "King Valorian, this is a pleasant surprise. Please, come in."

You thank her and step into her parlor. The room smells strongly of perfumes and you can see the touch of her presence here. Flowers are in the room and art that wasn't here before hangs on the walls. She takes a seat at the window seat and puts her hands in her lap.

"To what do I owe this honor, sire?" She says politely.

You shake your head, "No," you say and relax in your chair, "I am very pleased with your work so far, but I wish to understand your abilities at greater detail and your mindset. Tell me, what do you think about the kingdom?"

She pauses and looks out the window while she composes her words before smiling, "You have a beautiful capital city, and are clearly very interested in the well-being of your subjects and realm." A very neutral answer, you think, as you politely thank her and try to find another angle.

"I have had you working on bookkeeping for a while, but would it please you to be freed of such work and allowed to do other work?" She blinks a few times and smiles, the same thin smile as before. "I am pleased to do whatever work you put before me, sire."

Still, the same empty answers as before. This woman is difficult to get to talk. She has trained to be a minister, you remember her father telling you. It is an odd thing to get a woman to study, even one of noble birth. To be a minister, like Ralero, she would have to be chosen by the Crown. So, either, he was planning to send her to another Kingdom, or he was planning to have her work for you or your father.

"Did you ever meet my father?" She seems a bit surprised at the question, her eyes widen a small bit, and her smile freezes before she nods, covering her confusion and responding, "No, sire, I never had the honor. I was training with the Order of the Tower, as you recall."

They take a great deal of effort to make certain that everything is kept neat and orderly." Her behavior is odd and you continue, "Training a daughter to ministry is unusual, I must say. You must feel fortunate to be offered the opportunity to become a minister." She smiles, more relaxed now, as she says, "You are very correct, sire, the opportunity was a great gift, but I was not offered a position in any capacity." Too obvious, you chide yourself as you continue.

"It is odd, though, that you never met my father. After all, you are roughly my own age, and so even as he was engaging in diplomacy, I'm certain you would have had the chance to meet him." She pauses again, this time longer than before as she continues, "Well, I did see your father. However, we were never formally introduced. I was very busy with my studies and I was working under a noblewoman at the time."

Her behavior continues to be odd, and you feel like she may have slipped up somewhere in the previous statements. You make one additional push.

"It is very improper to ask after a lady's age, and I shall not, however, you have been of maturity for several years at this point, and yet you were kept away from social events in the Kingdom. We were at war with the Order until three years ago. So, when did you go to the Order?"

"Permit ME, Contessa Eleisha, but I have asked you a question. Your illness will have to wait." She nods, a wince almost appearing on her face as you press on,. "Your time in the Order, if you please."

She nods, "I was sent to the Order shortly after the peace was made, as you guessed, when I was eighteen years of age. While there, I saw your father at a social gala, but we were not formally introduced." You nod, "Yes, indeed, you said that before. However, Eleisha, I would like to remind you that you are here representing your father and your County. You would do well to bear that in the fore of your mind. I do not appreciate those who stand beyond my rule, in my sovereignty." She nods and you narrow your eyes as you continue.

"Now, this noblewoman you trained under, may I have her name?" She nods, "Of course, Lady Agatha von Kelmut." You recognize the surname. Von Kelmut....but where do you recognize it from. You think on it. Ralero's notes would have it, but you'll probably remember.

"So, fewer than three years ago, you saw my father at a public gala to celebrate the new peace with the Order. Yet, I know, that peace was done through letters and intermediaries. My father never has been onto Order lands." This is a bluff, you aren't certain if your father ever was. You, at the time, were training your military skills and personal combat skills.

Her eyes widen a bit at your words, "That's not true!" She blurts out and stands up, her hand to her chest, the other gesturing, "I saw him. He was in the Order lands! I promise you!" She seems very upset.

You nod and rub your jaw in thought, "Interesting, what a lovely experience." She seems very worked up, her chest is rising quickly as she breathes in and out much more rapidly than needed for a simple conversation. "So, if you were of age for four years before the peace was made, why did you never meet my Father formally?"

She stammers before trying to project an image of calm, "My father was very protective of me. He also didn't show up at court much, as you well know," she says too quickly and begins to giggle nervously as you fix her with an unfazed expression, "Well, by the time he went to court again, the peace had already been brokered and he sent me over, on your Father's orders." That was a bad slip.

"My father's orders? Your father stood in defiance of mine for his entire time as king, and yet you claim that now, just this once, he listened to the Crown's orders?" You rise quickly and gesture at her, aggressively now, "I have had enough of your duplicity! You were sent to the Order lands for some reason, and it wasn't ministry, now tell me!"

You will clearly and honestly explain to me what their whims and goals were for you. And you will explain, now, what the story was." She nods, though her fair face is marred by tears.

You sit back down and she begins to talk, though her words are broken up by sobs, "I, at the age of fourteen, was sent to the Order of the Tower to receive training from Madame Agatha, a courtesan of the Grandmaster's, and his distant relation from an impoverished line. My father offered to bolster her family's failing estate in exchange for training me. Through his support, she was quickly married into the Grandmaster's home, after his wife passed of mysterious circumstances. And so, I was trained. I learned how to read and write, how to be proper, I was taught what men liked, and most importantly, everything that kings liked." You nod and feel a sense of dread welling as she speaks.

"When peace was made, my Father ordered me to present myself to the King, not as Eleisha, but as Gerta von Helmut, a member of Madame Agatha's branch of the family. I entertained him and began to strike up a relationship with him. My breeding was sufficient and while the relationship grew, it was suddenly ended after his passing. So, my part in the deal was complete, and I was expelled from the Order's lands back to my Father's home. He was not pleased at the turn of events, and after Count Igor was defeated, he said that he would intend to have you take my hand in marriage."

2) Knowledge of this plot gives us power over Count Piotr, there's no need for us to secure his daughter's hand in marriage to secure his loyalty.

3) If Eleisha's past was revealed (and it would happen if made Queen for sure) that would be -extremely- embarrassing for us.

As >>41421687 this gives us an interesting 'in' on relations with the Order.

You smile, forcing it a bit, and pat her hand, "Thank you for your honesty. You are forgiven for any deeds, of course. Worry not, no repercussion will fall upon you or your father's head. However, you must promise me that you will not speak of this to him." She nods rapidly and you hand her a handkerchief from the table, with which she cleans her face as she sniffles.

"No, of course, sire, I will never tell him. He would be livid if I did. Thank you, thank you so much, sire." You nod your head and rise, "For my words matter, sire, you are a far greater man than your father, and a greater king." You nod once and leave her room.

[Contessa Eleisha: Loyalty: Loyal]

Once back in your chamber you can't help but laugh. Piotr is nothing short of an eminent strategist. Your father, you had to admit, was not only weak but easily deceived. He failed to check for authenticity of her birth and accepted the word of a more powerful man, the Grandmaster. You wipe your eyes of the tears of laughter as you lay down on your bed. What a tangled web.

~Thirdday, Mid-Day~

The sun is shining through the beautiful hall of Count Piotr, who is kneeling before you. His subjects fill the room, and his lessers gaze on with pride on their faces. Lining the walls are his Men-at-Arms who stand in his colors. You smile out across the crowd before taking a serious expression.

Would this be a good avenue to influence him.....

>>
>>41421925
Hell, the Count could actually be a powerful ally here. We have enough over him to see him on the chopping block whenever we wish (as if we needed justification) and he would be the best suited to politiking with the Order.
>>
>>41421978
>Cause we cant try to fuck over Piotr a year from now by revealing the plot, if we dont tell the order now we cant tell them at all

Why? This plot was in the making for years

And -what- exactly are we going to tell the Order?

"Oh by the way, Grandmaster, your wife totally murdered your old wife with the help of my subject."

This is blackmail against the current wife of the Grandmaster, and could be used very well in securing her support for anything we put before her husband.

TL;DR We don't want to use this information to fuck over Piotr, we want to blackmail the Grandmaster's wife.

And there's no reason this information is time sensitive unless we're talking about a new Grandmaster coming around.

[Eleisha updates coming after this post.]

You go through the ritual as normal, pouring the wine, tapping the sword. He swears his loyalty in front of his subjects, and his soldiers, a promise that he is very likely to keep unless he wishes for the reputation of a traitor and oathbreaker.

You muddle around the event as long as needed before taking to your steed and preparing to leave. As you do so, Eleisha comes up to you. "Sire, I wish to ask something of you." The crowd pays little attention to her as she gets close and you lean down. As you do, she slips a bundle of papers into your shirt. "These are missives from the Order from my time serving there. Take your time to read these, do so over light." You thank her and head back to your home.

Night is beginning to fall and as you pass the mustering field you see the huge host of soldiers readied and waiting for your command. They are prepared, and finally the time has come to strike a decisive blow against the Raiders.

Yup. Unwise to offer an incentive for murder though.

(I'm assuming this doesn't apply if the heir is of age (22ish) though?)
>>
[I feel a clarification is needed. The present system is as follows. The King, bereft of heirs, passes full authority and regal power to his wife. Should the King have an heir, of any age, then that heir receives the right of the throne. If that heir is of unsuitable age to rule, younger than 14, then it is given to the King's steward (or lacking that) the most elder Count to watch over until the heir is of maturity. The plan was to have us assassinated before our father would be killed to give the power over to Eleisha.]

"Men! These Raiders have been our foes for many decades, they have stolen the land that belonged to our fathers, and our mothers, our ancestors. They have divided our realm, and taken from us that which is most sacred. We are not at war for goods, or power, but to reclaim that which was ours long ago. We shall kill their people and drive them back to the sea!" Many hundreds of boots stomp the ground in unison at your rallying call,

The soldiers are eager, more than eager. You can see it in their eyes. The Apprentice Mages, issued from the Tower, are dressed in uniforms now, like soldiers, instead of whatever mishmash of gear they could get their hands on alone as before. Your soldiers also wear your colors and national crest as a mark of their training. They are eager and ready. The Khazidites, formerly rowdy and rough-shod, are now standing tall and proud with their axes on their belts. For the first time in what may be nearly fifty years of the Kingdom's history, you have a true standing army of trained and loyal soldiers.

You return to your chambers after spending a few hours with the men, inspiring them with your presence as they make certain to keep the best appearances up for you.

It is late in the night, by now, and you have plans to march by morning. You lay the missives from Eleisha on the dresser and prepare for sleep. Elsabeth is stationed outside your door with a pair of guards.

You quickly get up, compose an eloquent letter, as eloquent as you can be, and send a messenger overnight to be at La Faresse as quickly as possible. You are reticent that you will miss this opportunity, but the iron is hot for war, and you are a warrior first, and a dignitary second. You go to sleep with fire in your heart.

~Dawn of Fourthday~

You don the best armor you have, Count Igor's damaged armor. Since there is only a vulnerability in the shoulder you have a smith quickly attach a plate over it and wear your cloak over that arm. It looks more dashing, you tell yourself, hoping that the magical properties of this armor is enough to outweigh the awkwardness of wearing damaged armor.

Your Honor Guard form up around you proudly and, with the men carrying as much food and equipment as they conceivably can without being unduly burdened, you set off to war.

Several hours later you arrive at the Khazidite camps at the foot of the mountains. There, you see a surprising site. Two hundred Khazidites stand there, but they are no mere Khazidites. These men stand proud, with almost inhuman form and strength. Though they aren't in motion, you can tell these men are strong and fearsome. Bohdan stands at the fore of them.

"Eminent King!" You dismount as he speaks, "I knew that war would soon be at our door. These men," he indicates the two hundred, "Are from the southern villages. They have heard news of your Bond of Brotherhood, and have taken oaths and sworn allegiances to serve you above the tribes. Our Oaths have power, good King, and these men take it at great risk to themselves, for should they fail it or even fail you through fear in battle, they will surely perish. These are Khazidite Bound Hunters, and they are the pinnacle of what a Khazidite Raider wishes to be."

You thank him deeply for this and the two hundred men march, as a single unit, with unerring discipline.

The new soldiers bring with them immensely heavy bags full of food and medical supplies. As they join Bohdan grips your hand firmly, "Bring them death, brother, and never allow your hunt to end." You nod your head and squeeze his hand hard before mounting your horse again. "Forward, march!"

The army plucks its way through the mountain pass with care. Your bowmen are near the front of the column to respond to any threats. Thanks to the directions given by Mother Olga, you quickly find a path that would be otherwise impossible to spot from this side without knowing where it was, so expertly did it merge into the nearby rocks, as well as being hidden by a "conveniently" placed pile of rocks.

The sun has begun its descent into the horizon as you emerge at the head of the army. A jagged path, treacherous without guidance of the safe places to walk, leads down to ground. Sick of the sight of rocks, you lead the men.

It takes nearly an hour to bring everyone across, but once done, you glance around. "Welcome, men, to Lost Vastov." The field you have emptied out into is largely empty, save for a distant tower roughly a half mile away.

[When we embark on a campaign we determine a War Plan. With our expertise in command we know the following-

Creeping Advance: We will capture settlements and castles, dominate and secure them, and then continue the attack.

Wrath of the Winds: We will not stop for anything save the battles we must fight. We go for the head of the foe, his capital city, and seek to eliminate him and watch the empire fall apart.

Stalking Wolf: With intelligence and scouting, we can identify the enemy's weaknesses in their lands, destroy those, and leave them starving, under armed, and in the dark. Then, when they are at their weakest, we kill.]

"We are deep in the den of the enemy, men. We must be cautious." You select twenty of your Khazidite scouts and dispatch them to gather information. They take horses and ride them with a skill that makes you envious.

Ten minutes later they return. They pool their findings to the following-

The enemy has no fortifications, but instead has large roving groups of soldiers that operate as police and standing army. This is obvious from the remains of a passing large host and several villages within sight range in the distance. There are two villages within your striking range. One is a small farming village, the other appears to have no purpose outside of housing people. The direction of the soldier's refuse and steps indicate a south-ward movement. To the south is the farming village. The northmost rider indicated that to the far north, as far as his eyes could see, there appeared to be fewer and fewer signs of habitation or treating the land.

"Then we march south. You men, stay ahead and report any signs of enemy movement to me. Do not go into the village without us. We do not know what we are marching into." They agree and set off ahead of you as you lead the column.

An hour or so later, as night is settling in and the torches are visible on approach, you enter the village. There are no sounds of movement, no sounds of life in this village, but torches do not light themselves. The people here are cowering.

You order one of the men to knock on the doors. When he does it bursts open and a weary looking farmer, holding a farming implement unimpressively, steps out and swings at the man who parries it easily and points the spear at his neck. "At ease." You command the man who returns to ready.

"I am King Valorian of Vastov. Tell me, what is your name and profession?" The man blinks a few times and mutters out words in a clearly foreign tongue. Damn, you swear internally, it appears that the language of the Raiders is very different from yours.

"Can anyone understand me? I am King Valorian of Vastov, your rightful king! Speak, let your mind be known!"

People appear out of their houses, underfed people, exhausted people, wounded and maimed people, and none of them speak until an old woman speaks up.

"I can talk. I never thought I would live to see a Vastov here, in Essland." You cock your head, "Essland?" She smiles and waves her hand, "Forgive me, King, Lost Vastov. I am a prisoner of the Essland-Klassvide War." You dismount and help the woman walk to a well in the middle of the town. She, as she walks, speaks the native language, which sends a fire of whispers through the town as men and women run to get others awake and tell them.

"Klassvid is north of here, the great wall that was built to keep the Zestreid from invading their city. We still speak the tongue that you do, but we dare not leave the safety of the wall any longer." You nod, "Vastov Minor survives?" She smiles, "Yes, King, it does. Though, it survives poorly. The militant knights have infringed on much of the land north of the La Faressen border, and that has been blocked by foul sorcery." She spits and makes a gesture.

"Tell me more about this land, for starters." As you talk to her, your soldiers, at behest of their sergeants, form around the village to make certain that you are safe and uninterrupted.

She nods and breathes in and then out slowly, beginning her tale.

"This is called Essland, and is the main inhabited portion of the Zestreid people. They formerly inhabited the low-lands across the sea, but were driven out by the Steelclad. They are awful rulers, using fear tactics and harsh military punishment for any uprising. Eventually, the people here learned to just accept the rule. We feed and work for them, and in exchange, we aren't taken to the Void." She continues, "The Void, King, is a massive pit that they place prisoners in charge of digging. They work anyone there to death. This project has been going on for a decade, before they just killed us. Their King lives in the capital, Hoogstrad, next to the Volksak Bay. There, they send boats of soldiers and impressed prisoners to a war that never seems to end."

You nod, having Elsabeth take note of her words, quickly and efficiently. "Tell me about the Zestreid." She breathes through her teeth before talking again.

"They are huge. Their men tower over ours, and they are fearsome and hairy. Their muscles bulge through their garments in a vulgar fashion, and their women are loud and vicious. Their armies are commanded by the oldest man, whose white beard usually is done in thick braids, striped with black paint for each raid or battle he has won."

You push her for more, "And...." there is a bit of hope in your voice, which you control, "What of Klassvid?" The woman wipes a tear as she speaks.

"Oh! To be amongst my people again. Klassvid is as beautiful, good King, as Vastov. Rolling hills, unmarred by the graves and fires of these Zestreid monsters. The fields yield well, and the ground is rich with minerals and ore, which is why the Order pushes further south every year. I fear they will not be of great help to you in your battles, sire. But even a poor woman as I knows the legends. It is....a foolish thing to mention, forgive this old woman her stories." She says and bows her head.

"Tell me more of this legend." She blinks a few times and nods, clenching her face in thought, "There is, in the bottom of the Great Hall of Vastov Minor, a weapon, a spear that is encased in swirling winds. No man or woman can draw close without the winds harming them. The legend is that it can only be taken up by a "worthy hero", and that it will make his future and fate as the spear, 'straight and unerring in the face of the chaos around him."

You nod, "Fascinating....tell me about their army. What kind of troops do they use?" She muses, "All of their men are the same, chain armor, a large shield, and a heavy sword that cleaves as well as it pierces. The greatest of these men, easily twice your height, my King, hurl boulders as weapons, and I have even seen one of their Volfebuss." You quickly focus on that, "Volfebuss?"

"A long metal tube, twice as long as a horse, shaped as a wolf, that requires two of these giant men to pull it. I have seen it used, one time. A man puts a torch into the opening and, with a sound like the heavens pealing themselves, it unleashes a titanic swathe of death. I have seen a crowd of men reduced to a bloody pile against it. They guard them well, always keeping them far away from anything that may harm them. I believe they are extremely rare."

Elsabeth speaks up, "Sire, that weapon sounds like magical weaponry. Are we capable of fighting against it?" You ponder, then nod, "Of course we are." She smiles sadly and then offers, "Very well, sire, where would you like us go then? Continue to move to their capital? Or do you wish to go to Vastov Minor?"

oh i know, but this info is a bit confusing for me and figured having some of it on the website to keep track of would be good.
Especially since i have nothing to put a picture with the names.
right now after reading it over like 5 times i have.
Klassvid=Vastov Manor
something about magic and la faressen
Has a wall
Is prosperous and are getting conqered by the order
Has a magic spear
Essland=
Full of Zestreid people
Were the people trying to invade Klassvid
were run out from a people called steelclad
Are awful rulers reminds me of the dothraki
Has been digging a hole called the void for some time and some reason
Hoogstrad is where the king is, right next to Volksak Bay
Are huge men
Have magic canons
Now that i put it piece by piece it makes so thanks i guess.
Did i miss anything?

"We will go to Vastov Minor. It is nearer, and the man prepared is the man who wins." Elsabeth nods at your wishes and sends out the order for the army to gather. You kneel beside the old woman and thank her for her kindness. "I promise you," you say with conviction, "You will see your home again. You will see Vastov Minor." She smiles and nods, "Thank you, King, thank you."

The army gathers and now you move with great haste, excitement in your heart as you feel your destiny drawing near. To reunite the entire Kingdom again...that would truly be amazing.

Darkness has fully settled on the land by the time your scouts gain sight of the wall. And truly, you must admit, it is a grand wall from their description. They also report an enemy force in the field. A Raider army is stationed outside the wall with several of those small villages you spotted along the way that seemed to be used purely for housing serfs. They report a long line of cart-tracks that indicate frequent resupply from the coastal and pastoral villages near by to keep them sustained.

They have not spotted your scouts, and it is late at night. They are most likely asleep. From your scout's estimates, it appears they have roughly three hundred fighting men there. They sleep outdoors like animals. Your army vastly overpowers theirs, but it is likely that they will have easy access to civilians to murder if they feel it will help them.

>A) March on them with the full army
>B) Charge them down in their sleep with you, your guard, and the levy cavalry
>C) Send the Khazidites Bound Hunters to eliminate them.

"Let us test your skill." You say towards the leader of the Bound Hunters who bows his head and orders his group of men to approach. The Khazidite scout laughs as they move towards the Raiders. "Those barbarians don't stand a chance."

The Hunters disappear into the night as they draw close and you wait with baited breath. Then, it happens.

A scream fills the air, disappearing into a gurgling sound. Fire is brought and you can see the men in the distance, your men dancing through the fire lit sleeping area, their axes flashing like bolts of lightning in the hands of the gods themselves.

What few Raiders manage to get their weapons in hand have their shields splintered by the blows of these hunters, their swords broken in a feeble attempt to block or parry. The fewer still who stab their assailants remove the blades and see, with horror, that the wounds heal as soon as the Bound Hunters draw blood. It is quick.

Two hundred Bound Hunters went out to battle, and two hundred return, each carrying the head of a Raider. Their leader speaks, as smoothly and clearly as if here speaking to a full Court. "I regretfully inform you, sire, that we had not hands enough for the rest of their heads. I pray that two hundred will do." They toss them into a large pile and set them to flame.

You and the army move close and the peasants, what few there were, scatter in fear and hide. You do not pay them heed for now, but you will upon your return. The bodies of the dead Raiders are massed into a pile and also put to the torch.

The wall, the massive wall looms before you. Its towering size and grandeur only matched by your eagerness to surmount it. You call out, "Hail, sentry, it is your King, Valorian Vastov, and I require an audience with your Captain."

There is no response, no sound of recognition, but eventually a rope is thrown down, wordlessly.

>B) Climb the rope

Best part is that they are the last unit to survive, and usually take the morale hit.
They also get stronger the longer we have them in a war.
It sucks that we can never retreat with them, unless we want to lose all of them.

You grip the rope and pull yourself up. And it is no easy climb. There are, fortunately, moments you can rest as you climb, but once you are the top, you are exhausted and your muscles burn. You clamber over the crenelation and are faced with something welcoming.

The men standing there are dressed in your family's colors, yet it is slightly different. Instead of azur and or, they wear or and gules, with a wolf rampant as opposed to a wolf sejant erect. They look at you with the same expression you would have seeing your father again. Pure shock lines their faces and they speak, "King....A King of Vastov?" They pull you to their feet and immediately kneel, "Sire! Good King Valorian, it is truly you! We had heard rumors of the line dying out, yet our agents told us, they knew, that you would have survived." As they kneel, lit by the torches on the wall, you see a less comforting sight.

Four or so men clad in alternating white and black cloth atop their heavy armor wearing very distinctive flat helms, stand amongst the kneeling soldiers. You recognize that color scheme from your studies and from the records. They are Knights, Errant Knights admittedly, of the Order of the Tower. They do not appear to make any movement of courtesy or recognition, but they simply stand, pillars of steel and cloth, with swords as thick as your arm on their backs.

[And that is where we shall stop for tonight. As always, thank you so much for reading and playing along! We will pick this up tomorrow. To all newcomers, sign up to the Twitter, and more importantly the Ask.fm to talk to me about lore and culture of our world.]

[We will resume this lovely story tomorrow at 6 PM EST, just like tonight. But we shall go later, tomorrow.]

[As always, I am available for questions and discussion as this is the end of the thread. Fire away! If you are leaving, I hope to see you tomorrow.]

Thoughts on todays session?
Things you would have wanted us to do?
What will our loyal servant do during this war?
How much time has passed?
What was this stuff about magic and La faressen?
Will the map be ready by next session?
If the bound warriors lose all morale do they die? By that i read and it seems they are first to take morale damage, and we never used this system so i wondered how morale is done exactly.
>>41424013
Actaully i'm thinking of sending a letter to the queen to order these nights away, or we and the count shall reveal something unpleasant.(won't be so obvious, but you get the gif.)
>>41424028
They have also been at war for a bit, but this explains why they have been able to block the other group, they basically have been using the manor as a stronghold.

>>41423970
Can we do a bit of a recton and do some orders for our followers before the war, or will that be handled by Ralero Sukov.
>>41424088
I could go either way honestly its up to you.
Its obvious that they have a presence here, and what the old lady told us of the order slowly taking their land.
It means either the order is on the verge of taking over, or already have.
>>
>>41424050
[Today's session was a lot more character and relation driven than usual, which is a great break from the management element. I love both, but it's fun to have some change. Things I wanted us to do....hmm....interact with Grigori more. Our loyal servant will maintain the kingdom as best as he can in your stead. Time? We began today's thread on Newday of the week, and we're almost done with the week. There is a barrier of some type between Vastov Minor, which has a large border to La Faresse, that is placed there by magic of some sort. The map will be ready next session. They cannot lose Morale, as they are fearless. Even if the 7 Morale Damage is dealt to them, they just pass it along to the next group. They only auto-die if ordered to flee or failing a command of yours.]
>>
>>41424137
We ordered Ralero to look for suitable noblers to become counts right?
If we succeed we would be getting land back and that needs to be filled up with counts.
Also we need a noble to fill up the empty territory spot igor left.
Also what do counts do in territories?
>>
>>41424203
[Counts manage the minor workings of their counties. They punish crime, collect taxes, make laws and local ordinances, and all the other minutia, including training a militia to serve you should you call on them for a large-scale war. Ralero is looking for a suitable Count, but honestly, the royal blood is fairly thin and rare.]

[We do, however, know of a place that has a large problem with their nobility, they have too damn many of them. Noble families are huge and have tons and tons of sons who all want to cut land apart. That place? La Faresse.]

>>41424134
[We can do it, if you'd like, at thread-start next time, or we can trust Ralero. He's a good man.]

[They do have a presence, but to what extent I will leave for next time, just for the sake of artificial drama.]
