Your name is Thomas Cairn, and you have no clue what you jumped into. Your dad was a famous superhero known as The Red Rider, and he showed up dead in an alley about a year ago. When you were checking out a storage unit you inherited from him, everything changed. You gained his powers, a brain able to calculate faster than light, and an uncanny affinity for machinery.

Using your powers, you were easily able to get into the world's top engineering college, Central Cosmopolis Institute. You never moved past Dad's ideas though, and you couldn't stand the gap The Red Rider made, so you filled it. You made a suit of power-armor and became The Red Knight, however, you lacked experience. So you managed to get a mentor, Wrench, so that you could learn the Hero business. Of course the only way to learn is experience, so you spent a good portion of your free time breaking up Mafia operations around Cosmopolis.

The people have taken a shine to you. They were scared about The Red Rider's "hiatus", but now that you're here they think that, like other normal Supers, he passed on the torch. The crowds love you, every time you fly by at least 20 phones come out, but no good comes without a price, and not everybody can be saved.

Well, Jules may be good at making ominous quips about the situation, but this situation was definitely not unexpected by you, except the future part, that wasn't expected. You expected somebody would want to kill you eventually. You still don't even know if Jules actually is from the future, but if that note is to be believed, somebody knows about your little "hobby". If you're being completely honest, all he told you about how time travel even works was "Don't question it.", but he seems to be trustworthy.

"What do you mean ahead of schedule?"

"Angle should have been apprehended on the tomorrow morning at the earliest, you went off-schedule when you asked that man to find him. This isn't even acknowledged as a possibility. There will be repercussions to this."

"You keep leaving me with more questions than answers."

Jules almost seems to be stuttering at something, it's the first real time you've seen him show an emotion. Maybe he's a robot, that would be ridiculous, a robot sent from the future to protect you. That seems a little too on the nose though.

"Right, suppose I still get wounded tomorrow as per the schedule. What happens? And what happens if I'm not?"

"You don't get wounded tomorrow, you were to get wounded yesterday. The only thing that happens tomorrow is the apprehension of Angle, which already happened. I was supposed to try and stop you from getting wounded, but you did that without me, so now I am here to observe."

"To be fair, the only reason I asked for help from UAU is that it seemed like, according to you, I couldn't handle it myself. So you effected the timeline in that way."

"I was not supposed to, and you already knew of an assassin, so I don't believe I effected you so much as something is fundamentally different with you than the other versions of Thomas Cairn. I will observe until the end of the expo, then leave. There will be somebody watching you at all times from that day on. Not as a protector, but merely a follower, never to initiate contact or help you. This timeline will be quarantined, nothing to leave or enter."

With all of the bleak chatter out of the way, you walk to the pavilion that the party's at, and are shocked to find that it's almost over. People are leaving, a garage band is playing "Closing Time", and security is escorting those who are too drunk to decide to leave out. You think you see your acquaintance in YTR, Kenjiro Sawamura, finishing up a shot of whiskey at a table.

Jules just kind of walks off into the crowd, and you walk over to the table that the middle-aged Japanese inventor is sitting at.

"Hey Kenjiro, how was the party? Sorry I missed it, had businessman things to do."

"It was good, I talked with a few of the other R&D people and it seems like they had fun, so that is what matters." Kenjiro may speak with a perfect American accent, but he has a habit of forgetting that conjunctions are a thing. At least you can understand him, Japanese would be a hassle for you to learn, and you need to keep yourself together.

"That's great to hear, have you been messing with those nanomachines I sent you?"

"Yes, they are fun to play with, I use them to teach the new hires how to program. Very useful." You met Kenjiro when he sent you an email about the Micro-Actuators and buying in bulk. You decided to start talking with each other because you both had very interesting ideas concerning development in the field of Nanorobotics.

Yes, the same is said for any major country, except Greece, they defaulted on their payments and have to rely on local heroes (These would be the more stereotypical nationalized heroes). International Heroes United is basically a Heroes Union that gets payed by the government to protect a country from large Supervillain threats. It's a Freelance Justice League.

You decide that now is as good a time as any to get something to drink, probably start with something minor, it is your first drink after all.

"One beer please." The bartender gives you a suspicious look for a second, then he hands you a cold can of beer. You pay for it with some pocket change and a dollar, then you return to the table and crack it open. You sip as you talk with Kenjiro about robotics.

>Innovation increased to 25

You feel a bit buzzed, and the beer isn't that good, but you have a few minor breakthroughs on the nanomachines and improving their design. Kenjiro also seems to be on a roll today, as he has a few insights too, mostly considering software designed for easy programming. He comes to a conclusion that the nanomachines are useful for moving stuff at a relatively small level, but in the current state, the programmers can't get precise enough movements in a timely manner.

"Wait, I might have something for that Kenjiro. I'll see what I can do." You could ship them with a primitive version of RON. No, screw shipping it with them, sell it separately. You should probably wait until you get time off to work that out, but this could work!

"This was fun Thomas, we should do this again another time. I feel tired, so I am going to drive to the hotel and sleep. Goodbye." He finishes his drink and walks out of the pavilion, he always kind of has a limp, but he says that's from an accident a bit ago, nothing to worry about.

Jules said he would be merely observing from now on, so you infer that means he won't be joining you.

You decide to set an alarm for 9:30 and head back to the dorm to get some sleep. You go in, take off your suit, and then you collapse onto the bed, falling into a deep sleep.

>"I have sent a personal favorite of mine to find it, he will not stop until the job is done."

>"It's him isn't it, make sure he doesn't mess anything up."

You wake up to the beeping of your alarm and roll over, relatively well-rested considering how late you were up. You sit up and are greeted with a slight headache, it isn't that bad, just annoying.

You decide that just laying down might be a good idea, so you just take a short bit of time meditating in bed. The whole body position thing doesn't matter much for you, you've been practicing for over a year now, so it would be pretty pitiful if you couldn't get it.

>Instability reduced to 15

You sit up about an hour later and hop out of bed, feeling less annoyed at the headache, and go get washed up. The room's been kind of empty since Harry left, his side of the room used to be absolutely packed, now it seems almost deserted. Maybe you should move some stuff over there, since you won't get a new roommate until the end of summer.

After getting cleaned up, you decide that a T-shirt and jeans are acceptable today, you can always change later. You put on a T-shirt with a science pun on it, Jeana got it for your birthday, and go down to breakfast, picking up a bowl of cereal in the cafeteria.

You decide that there should be some talent at this gig, so you go out and start walking through the booths. A lot of them are uninspired cleaning products for cars, advertisements, nothing very interesting, but one catches your eye. There's one guy messing around with a bunch of ball bearings at a bench, and they appear to be levitating the metal balls.

He seems to be a street performer like any other, but he has a sign identifying him as "The Great Federico". It seems like he can levitate the ball bearings with his mind, but when someone asks him to pick them up, he shakes his head and continues what he was doing.

"How do you do that?"

"A true magician never reveals his tricks." He says in a scratchy voice, now that you're up close, you see that he looks like an everyday hobo and stinks like a dumpster. He starts levitating the balls again, and you see that there are thin strings hanging from the lamp he's under, that lead behind him to his other hand. He's just a regular magician. How underwhelming.

You decide to look around a bit more, and you find a few more tech booths, still nothing special, but it is something. Eventually, you start getting to the vendors and things get a bit more interesting. Fried food, burgers, all sorts of vendors all around, eventually you get to a small half-circle of booths, all of which seem to be stores.

There are a few that stand out. One booth has a purple awning with yellow stars sewed on it, it looks very homemade and cobbled together. The sign reads "Magi-Cal's House of Curios" and it has that nostalgic feel that reminds you of baked cookies.

Another is a small booth called "This-n-That", although the word booth may not fit. It looks like a trailer with a bunch of pictures of random things on it. It seems very small, but a neon sign on the side says open.

An awning covers what looks like a veritable bazaar of spices and another sign reads "Tea Market" in heavy yellow paint. The smell is overpowering and assaults your nostrils like a punch to the face.

Lastly, a green tent in the corner has a sign that says "Exotic Flowers" and a huge man out front of the tent stares menacingly at you. A small old lady comes out, tells him off for loitering, and he walks away looking dejected.

You decide that flowers aren't the worst thing you could get for Jeana, and that old lady is pretty badass for standing up to somebody literally twice her size and half her age. You walk over and are greeted by a lovely assortment of flowers, many of which you have never seen before. The old lady walks out hobbling on a purple cane painted with flowers.

"Hello, is there anything I can help you find today?" She kind of has that tone of voice that makes you think of a kindly grandma, very familial and sweet.

"Yes, I was looking for something for my girlfriend, but I honestly have no clue what to get."

"A lot of people walk in and have no clue what to get, that's the point of a flower shop, you don't come in looking for a certain flower, otherwise you would buy seeds, you come in looking for something beautiful." She walks into the back of the tent and comes out with a white flower that kind of looks like a bird. "I just got this in from Russia, it's a great gift for anybody really, only $50 for a bouquet."

"These look great, but could we add a few roses to the bouquet for good measure?"

"Fair enough, would you like this in a vase or just the plastic?" She starts putting the flowers together and gathering up roses as big as your palm.

"I'll take the vase, also, can I have a business card so I can find you again? I love the flowers."

"Sure, we have a few right there." She points at a knit card holder on the counter she set up.

She goes over maintenance and care for the plant, you catch all of it, but as she's talking you slip five Benjamins into the tip jar. She was very helpful and it's not like you're poor. She pulls a beautiful glass vase out from under the counter and places the flowers in it.

"I might call back later, I'm a biologist and I might want to see some more of these, maybe help you out with them." It isn't a huge lie, just enough so you don't sound crazy.

"That sounds like-" Your conversation is interrupted by a loud boom outside.

>You can choose more than one from each tree.

AI Tree (Costs money to integrate):

>Localized Assistive Node Array (LANA): A miniaturized copy of RON that is hooked into the suit. Doesn't require service to operate. Will provide HUD and advice on the situation. Communicates with RON if possible. COST: $30,000

>Password Scramble Programs: Constantly scrambles your passwords and firewalls to prevent a cohesive entry by intruders. Using your powers you can still access your computers. COST: $40,000

>Assistive Auto-pilot Robotic Operating Node (AARON): An add-on to RON that allows him to pilot the suit in an emergency. COST: $20,000

NanoTech Tree:

>CLOAK bots: A build of Micro-Actuators able to shift color, near invisible when employed, weaker than normal.

>IMN bots: A build of Micro-Actuators that can simulate White Blood Cells to provide resistance to viruses and poisons that are new to the immune system.

>Interlock Maneuver: Micro-Actuators can now lock together to form a semi-solid surface. Allows more uses for Micro-Actuators in combat.

>Thread 14 is over, thanks for playing. My Twitter is @xLostCowboyx, I post alerts when I'm running. Next week there will be AT LEAST 2 threads, so look forward to that.

>Post-Thread Question: How have I improved from the first threads, and what can I do to improve further?

>Not bothering with the armor.

>How have I improved from the first threads, and what can I do to improve further?
it less chaotic with the rolling which is nice.

Your writing has improved, I believe. And the quest system is more well defined, too.
>>

This. It feels less like groping in the dark. Having a better defined character helps with that.

Is it bad that I want to create a space/time machine just to fuck with the people that are watching us?

Also I vote we(later) try to create a small group of either robot or armored individuals to work as a pmc for us. So we can sell them out for money and incase we ever need a private army.

Yes.
