Running time:
>11 AM - 5:00 PM EST, 9:45 PM - 1:30 AM (break for work inbetween)

Quest Synopsis:
>A Kamen Rider quest taking place in the world of Gaim, following Makoto Kinushima of Team Raid Wild. Has key differences between this quest and original Gaim, namely the inclusion of a few particular original characters, varieties of Lockseeds, and the presence of Beast Spirits - one of which was granted to Makoto, named the Dragon Jormungandr, and others granted to other characters as deemed appropriate in the story.
>As such, the plot has varied from the original enough so that it can be considered its own timeline. With the presence of Kaiju Inves and the new Dragonslayer Arms, things are going in a new direction in this Arc.
>Aims to be faithful to the core of Kamen Rider, but incorporates inspiration and elements from assorted movies, video games and other sources.

Recap and first choice in next post.

The last episode had you coming face to face with the "White Lady", Izanami - your mother's Anchor in the real world, and one of the Six that were vying for the forest, along with her servant, a fox spirit of some kind named Kyuran.

In a small, hidden-away section of the Helheim, with dead trees and rotted out villages, she asked of you a task - to go to the Yggdrasil scientists and convince them to stop trying to harvest the mutagenic liquid from the Inves, as the massive harvesting and culling of the Inves would only lead to the emergence of more Kaiju Inves in exchange. You accepted, wary of the spirit's making of moves behind her Anchor's back, but understanding of the issues that could come across with the acceleration of the Inves.

You went to work later that day, after weeks of almost secluding yourself in your training and rest, and performed pretty well for yourself, despite being rusty as all hell. You even made some cookies!

But tonight's free - what would you like to do tonight?

I only just checked this out today. Besides, it was mostly a shitpost, though I personally would prefer without OC. Even if that wasn't the case I probably wouldn't have checked it out unless I was very bored one day. It seems I'm way too behind. I know some folks at /krg/ don't like you posting, but if you ever start a new quest let me know there.

The OC kind of came as I was writing - originally it was just the main protagonist and her mom, but then it kind of ballooned.

But thanks for stopping by, though! If I do run another quest, though, I'll let you know. Most likely it'll be another attempt at a Warframe-like quest.

>Train with Lau

Lau Chang's a guy you haven't seen in ages. You met him back in the spring, when you had still been taking classes at the local community center to learn the basics of karate - waaaaay back then. You fought him to a draw, then to a defeat with an improvised Dempsey, and he remembered you as being one of the Beat Riders - offering you his services for training under him.

A quick phone call.

"New phone, who's this?"
"Yo, is this Lau? It's Makoto - Makoto Kinushima, I'm not sure if you remember me?"

A pause for a moment, as he struggles to remember.

"The Beat Rider? From the community center?"
"Yeah, that'd be me. Am I calling at a bad time, or...?"

A yawn, what sounds to be stretches and effort.

"No, not really... I just woke up, so..."

"Was wondering if you wanted to train today. If that offer was still applicable and everything."
"Yeah, uh, sure. Where at?"

"Sounds good to me. Remember, I'm not gonna go easy on you - you better be ready to work."

You offer agreement, and hang up the phone. Packing up a t-shirt, shorts and other workout clothes into a duffel bag, you start heading out the door. Thankfully there's no surprises today - no fox spirits on your way to the community center, no strange cracks or whatnot, no...

You don't hesitate.

You swim and flow through the surge of bodies from the gym - parents and children and even a few Beat Riders in their casual clothing.

And before you even enter the gym, you can feel it in the air. The hot, muggy alien jungle air.

A Crack. And with a crack, assuredly means Inves.

One of them, you can see, is hanging upside down upon the rafters in the ceiling. Brown and black, matte webbed wings, and now very nasty looking claws extending from the ends of the wings.

Blood, hot and wet, drips from its mouth to the floor.

Human blood.

You see red for a moment, wanting to soar up there and tear out its throat, draw and quarter it -

--you see no other Armored Riders around--

The Bat Inves hops off of the rafter and lazily glides down to the mostly empty floor, landing upon what must assuredly be a corpse, gouged and stabbed and slashed at beyond recognition.

It turns to you, dispassionate eyes.

You can't fight here. Not yet. Too many innocent lives, too much blood that could be spilled unnecessarily. You had to chase him away from the people - or at the very least, give them time to escape.

You look around for something, anything, that you can use in a pinch like this.

You pick up the frisbee, testing it. It's plastic, nothing fancy really. Must have been playing frisbee golf or ultimate in the large basketball court of the gym, or something like that, you muse. Or maybe--

No real time to worry about what it was doing here. You hold the frisbee up, catching the eye of the Inves, and mercilessly huck it at its face. It sails beautifully through the air, before striking the bat in the eyes. A surprised cry, and it hides its face!

You see nearby a half-open bag of balls.
Dodgeballs.

Perfect.

You pick up as many as you can carry, slinging the bag over your back, and start pitching them as fast as you can at the Inves. It's something that he immediately latches onto after a couple of the rubber balls hit him - he starts dodging and trying to maneuver out of the way of the incoming assault.

And still, you throw.

You have no time to look at the silliness of the situation, of playing dodgeball with an Inves, but you eventually force the bat out the back door of the gym, into the--

The metal door to the outside bursts open, the Bat Inves still trying to retreat from the machinegun-like firing of dodgeballs at its face. It yelps and whimpers and tries to not get hit as much as possible, but you keep on throwing and throwing--

Until you reach into the mesh bag, and find nothing.

"Fuck."

The bat hesitates for a moment, arms still raised, before daring to look at you. It then almost /laughs/, claws on his hips, taking pride that it survived the worst you've got to throw at it.

And then you reach for your Driver. Show it off for a bit, then slam it onto your waist - it fastens in fractions of a second, resting in its rightful place.

Four lockseeds, you draw from your duffel bag, and show them off once more.

>1x DRAGONFRUIT LOCKSEED - Experimental Class, grants DRAGONFRUIT ARMS - fire-based attacks and a fighting claw, the DragoClaw.
>1x APPLE LOCKSEED - Class B, grants RINGO ARMS - knight-like armor and stability, as well as a labrys axe, the RingBreaker
>1x CARAMBOLA LOCKSEED - Class B, grants CARAMBOLA ARMS - ninja-like armor and speed, as well as oversized shuriken, KaraShuriken.
>1x ROSE ATTACKER LOCKVEHICLE - A LockVehicle summoned from a Lockseed, that takes the form of an offroad motorbike. When at a high enough velocity, can form a portal between Helheim and the real world.

At this point, you know how the song goes - armor drops down, you have a mini mental overload, and then everything fits together perfectly.

You've never, however, transformed in front of a bunch of people, especially scared or injured men and women who need to at least know someone's looking out for them.

"My roar shakes the heavens..."
"And my fury slays those that prey on the innocent!"
"I am Kamen Rider... RAID!"

You draw your blade and claw, and stance up.

As for other banter, I have two thoughts I'd like to bring up:

We only have one confirmed person (Erina Kinushima) who uses it. I believe that there was a Genesis Driver that was shown at some point, but it wasn't used. I could be wrong on that, though. Regardless, the status of Genesis Drivers is a possible point of discussion.

You definitely wouldn't say you're out of practice - quite the contrary, in fact. But this Inves, isn't an ordinary Elementary or the rarer Evolved ones. Every strike, he manages to guard against and parry against yours. He knows footwork, he knows when to dodge and get out of the way of your claws and saber.

He doesn't even seem to be winded, and a little bit of your mind worries that you're making a fool out of yourself.

It lets out a screech of supersonic sound, overriding the sound dampeners in your helm, and starts hauling ass against you...

... but that training is starting to kick in. Just as easily as the Bat backed off and guarded, you do the same, using the broad side of the DragoClaw to fend off most of the hits. Dodges and jumps to avoid high or low swipes, and soon enough, you're at a standstill with the bat once more.

Out of instinct, you hop from one foot to the other, one hand low, the other hand guarding your chest. Maybe it was because you were going to train with Lau Chang today, but the entire thing about this just felt kind of like a movie fight. And you couldn't help but slip into character a bit.

"Come on, I was kicking your ass with dodgeballs just a couple minutes ago!" you taunt the bat. It only tilts its head at you, perplexed at the sounds you made in its direction. It roars, spreading its wings wide.

18 vs. 1. Trounce.

And as if it wasn't clear at all what was going on with the Bat before, as soon as you start attacking it again, it fails tremendously in defending itself. Hitsparks fly off of the hide and body of the Inves, as you mercilessly tear and slash through its meager defenses. It's acting like a normal, animalistic Inves instead of a challenger at this rate - how the hell did this thing manage to kill someone?

Oh right. Because plain old humans are weak and quite frankly kind of dumb.

Regardless, you manage to stun the bat with a well-placed couple of body shots, forcing it to recoil and ccover its chest.

You waste no time in hitting the switch on the Driver, three times.

>DRAGONFRUIT SPARKING!<

And you feel the soles of your feet start heating up, to almost unbearable degrees. Almost, but not quite - as if walking on hot coals. You taunt the bat, with a "come hither" expression, and with a struggling cry the Inves complies.

You don't even have to jump.

You shove your foot into the upper thigh of the Inves, giving you a nice little springboard for you to twist your body and slam your other foot into the head of the monster.

A satisfying crunch and the feeling of bone and flesh giving way, after much effort-- and the Inves goes spinning off a short distance away. Far away, in the back of your consciousness, you hear the crowd actually cheer for you! Hey, ain't that a change?

But the Inves isn't dead and gone yet. It's struggling to stand up and fight once more, despite half of its skull being fractured and bashed in.

No need to be sadistic, let's make this simple and clean. Though the fact that a Sparking hasn't killed this thing is a bit worrying. Why's it so durable? It's just a Bat Inves. It shouldn't be able to take this much damage and not explode.

Letting it suffer could hurt our reputation, and it's unreasonably cruel. Plus it might manage to get away somehow, and that would be just terrible.

This might be uncommon when it came to monsters, but you've seen enough Rider to know what you need to do.

If you can't finish it off with one kick, make it two. Vary your finishers. Repeat until necessary.

"This might explode!" you call to the crowd, gesturing for them to give you a /lot/ of space. "Please make sure to take cover if things go to shit!" Thankfully the crowd complies eagerly, hiding behind outcroppings and behind corners.

Then you turn to the Inves, still reeling as if in hitstun.

"This is your end," you monologue, shifting back into a bit of your chuuni tendencies. "And when you go to hell, tell 'em Rider Raid sentcha!"

I say we do a classic Rider Kick. Jump up in the air, somersault, come down in a kick with our foot on fire. To fit the fruit theme, have the fire spiral around our foot so that it looks vaguely like the ring of spikes you get around a cross-section of unpeeled dragonfruit.

Agreeing with this, as and when we hit it, it should look like a translucent dragonfruit splitting into fourths.

Pic kinda related, couldn't quickly find a better Gaim-style finisher.

Alright, if he won't go down easily, just do it again - the classic way, this time!

You take a mighty leap into the air, as high as your legs and the suit will let you go. Almost cresting past the roof of the community center, you can feel your stomach drop out from your torso for a second, before gravity kicks in again.

"RIDER DIVE RAID!" you call - because to hell with it, it's the last thing the Inves will probably see.

>DRAGONFRUIT SPARKING!<

And your trajectory changes subtly, but enough - speeding down, right foot extended, burning up the little atmosphere between you and the monster. You can see spirals of flames from your foot, a nice effect - spikes of fire springing from your boot--

And it slams directly into the center of the chest of the Inves. The horrible cry of the monster is cut short by the spikes of fire, jammed through its burned flesh as it's pinned to the concrete.

"<Begone, pest.>"

And with an easy hop, skip and back-dash away, you get just out of range for the Inves to fall apart and explode, into magenta and white flames.

Final results:
>Minimal damage to the pre-existing structure.
>Inves eliminated.
>Civilian Casualties: 1.
>Performed for the crowd and saved them/

All in all, not too bad of a day.
You definitely can hear the crowd starting to applause, and cheer, coming out from their hiding places...

>Stick around and talk with the crowd.
>Make an obvious exit.
>Slip away, and rejoin the crowd.

We should try to figure out what happened here, and it'll probably make us look better.

I'd like to see if we can find any of the people who were there when the Crack opened, get their word on how long it was open before the Inves came through. If it attacked the instant the Crack opened it will help support our case of "you're making them more aggressive" to Yggdrasil when they show up to cleanse the site.

Instead of retreating from the limelight this time, you walk right into it. You don't remove your helmet or detransform, instead retaining the semi-mysterious semblance of the Raid armor, as you approach the crowd with open arms. It's a little self-centered to do so, you know, but dammit the cheers and applause are really helping right now, especially after being gone for so long.

The normal "famous" things happen - you get bugged for autographs, and you're careful to sign "RAID" instead of your actual name; you get people taking selfies with you, especially teenage girls and boys, and moms with their children. It's a nice feeling, making victory signs in the digital memories of the people who were at the community center that day...

...but sooner or later, you've gotta get back to work.

You start asking around, in as nondescript of a voice as you can manage, asking for who was around at the time of the Crack. Only a couple people are able to answer, but one especially was willing to part.

A young adult, mid-20's, who's been real quiet up until you started talking to him. Hands firmly lodged in pockets, surly look on his face. He admits that he was in the gym when the crack opened, "meters away" according to him.

THe first thing the Inves did was tear into the civilian, according to him. And this makes him frustrated, taking out his anger verbally upon you.

"You're a hero, right? You go around, beating up monsters like this shit, even if they're Inves. Where the hell were you when this happened?! I thought y'all were immediately there when this shit goes down - you coulda prevented Nanami from gettin' fuckin torn up!"

He's in your face, eyes narrowed and while his voice isn't raised, he's got that very reasonably angry undercurrent with it.

"Do you think I enjoy seeing people torn to shreds like that? Do you think that it doesn't hurt every time I see something that I could have prevented if I had been there only a few seconds earlier? Let me tell you, it hurts. It hurts bad. If there was something, anything, that I could have done, I would have done it. I can't take back the atrocities that Inves caused. All I can do is try to stop them from doing it again."

"Sir, I'm sorry, but I responded as quickly as I could. The Cracks are unpredictable, I had no way of knowing it would form there. You have my deepest apologies for what happened to your friend, but I am not to blame."
>>
>>41415956
"You know what, yes, yes I should have been there the moment it opened but do you know why I wasn't? Because I'm still human, even us with these suits, we're not perfect nor do I know when and where these Crack's open but I know I can make a difference when I'm close by them and that's what I do."
>>
You try your best to keep a straight face, fully aware that most of the crowd has dissipated but a few remain. What you do here could leave repercussions upon your reputation... what little of it you might have left, these days.

"Sir, I'm sorry, but I responded as quickly as I could. The Cracks are unpredictable, I had no way of knowing it would form there. You have my deepest apologies for what happened to your friend, but I am not to blame."

The last stinger of that line is what causes the next reaction - a flame, from quiet anger to full blown vehemence and vitriol.

"You are not to blame?! So you take no responsiblity for Nanami's death, huh? Without the Riders, these things run wild, and because of all your lack of presence until conveniently after she DIES, I now have a dead girlfriend and all I'm left with is 'you're not to blame'?! Is this some kind of joke to you??"

That does it.

He's about to open his mouth to protest but you cut him off - you're not about to let him get the final word in this, when you've got your side to tell.

You refuse to raise your voice, you refuse to loom over him like a higher power. But you render him silent, at least.

You waste no time walking away at this point, not bothering to look back. Yeah, he's crying, and yeah, you figure he has every right to. If it was his girlfriend that passed, yeah it's gonna hit him hard.

No more thoughts, though. Autopilot takes you with purposeful steps to the other side fo the gym, towards the locker rooms. Good of a place as any, after all - most likely everyone's gonna be gone. And not only that, but since you're pretty sure Beat Rider Hotline's still gonna say it's you behind the mask, it's not gonna be worth hiding too much. What's a couple pairs of eyes?

After retrieving your workout bag, you go into the women's locker room. You hear very little aside from a running shower, but no human presence - sounds like everyone left already. You close the Lockseed and take off the driver, the Arms melting off of you in a puddle that quickly diss--

Why is it so warm in here?

Reminder of which domains and the Six we know of yet?

If this is a domain entrance a la Agartha, who's domain would it be, you think?

>Last post for the night, then I unfortunately need to cut for dinner and everything.

You prowl around the locker room, and with a sigh of relief, discover that indeed, the warmth was the shower just being left on.

However, you can hear the stamping of multiple pairs of feet down the hall, as you change into clothes for blending in - must be Yggdrasil Corp, sent to clean up the mess--

Wait.

That metallic clinking sound.

That sounds more like soldiers or police than Yggdrasil --

ANd they're coming for the door of the locker room.
