You peer down the massive tunnel that he has created that seems to stretch from one side of the city all the way to the other.

He's gone, you're not sure where. Maybe he's still pounding through the buildings and breaking down walls in an attempt to find you. It seems like avoiding him is the best approach. You don't really gain anything from fighting that monster. Especially considering how much damage he can do in such a short amount of time.

You are Jack Albator, handsome adventurer, clean-cut hero, master of deception. You've evaded the mountainous man known as Gilles to find yourself inside of an aqueduct near the village. You're just going to check one more place before you head back to your crew. It shouldn't take but a few minutes.

Lighting a nearby lamp, you pick it up and continue inside of the structure. It descends downward beneath the town, and opens up into a network of tunnels.
In a way, you feel extremely silly that you didn't realize that this was here before.

Back home, you've seen more than a few systems for transporting sewage and storm water. This may be the first one you've seen since coming here, not even the large cities that you've been in have had underground drainage.

Maybe it was already here before they built this village? You keep those thoughts to yourself and continue down into the maze of tunnels.

You walk down the last stretch of tunnel you have until freedom. There's a stairway, leading up to another door which leads to the street.

You begin walking upward, when your path is suddenly blocked by a strange figure. His face obscured by the light.

He isn't moving, even as you approach. His arms are crossed, and he remains standing in front of the doorway.

>"You must have some kind of death wish there."
>Just shoot him, you are in no mood for this.
>There's another way up somewhere else, he's waiting here because someone knows where you are.
>"Who the hell are you?"
>Other?

...Uh, I don't suppose we can go back to the prince?
I'm a little annoyed people voted to run away, I wanted to kick his ass and then drag him back home for interrogation, because no one else in this place seems to know just what the hell is going on.

If that's what you want to do, I'll let you turn around and go find him. It's not like he'll be hard to find. Cast your vote for it, and see if others follow suit.
>>
>>41375175
>Ya know what, screw that prince dick, you're gonna want some answers, and that means bringing him back, see if that snake lass knows some truth potions or whatever.

Also, hiya Announcer, how have you been?
>>
>>41375105

>"Who the hell are you?"

Aww come on, no one wants to make sure we'll get an asshole to interrogate after this?
We can even keep him as a political prisoner to screw with that douchebag king!
>>
>Who the hell are you?!

Writing!
>>
>>41375513
Welp, guess I'll hope the prince will find us so we can beat him and kidnap him.

Seriously, people, we're a hero, that guy isn't worth shit, why did we run?
>>
>>41375575
He almost kicked our ass last time we met him. And we had two other heroes.
We're alone, he knows it. It's best to let him run wild.
>>
>>41375635
Because of unbelievably shitty rolls.
If we had gotten decent rolls, we would've been able to take him.
This whole "oh, this random bastard is so badass, let's run away!" makes little sense, since we ARE going to have to fight him later... why not do so now, when we could've then used him as a captive to humiliate the enemy king?
>>
You stop at the foot of the stairs. The figure seems to loom over you.

You don't really care, because you're not going to let a blonde pansy try to play the intimidation game with you.
"Who the hell are you." You frown.

The man takes a more relaxed pose, leaning against the doorway.
"Jack Albator, you are one talented man."

You stare at him blankly after that statement.
"Yar?"
It's true you are very talented, and handsome, and cunning. So you're not sure where this guy is going with this except he wants to join your crew.
You wouldn't mind if people started tracking you down in order to join your crew. It feels nice being a celebrity.

"In fact, I consider you to be almost superhuman."
Aw, sweet talker, he's making you blush.

"Well, Aye could use another hand on-"
"-Which is why" He rudely interrupts, "I am so thankful to have you as my opponent."

Oh, he's another one of THOSE guys.

"Well, Aye'm not thankful to have you as my opponent. Any last words before ye walk the plank?" You start your ascent up the stairwell.

He continues standing in your path. Leaning against the doorway.

"Ye didn't answer who ye were, by the way. I suppose it don't matter, but aye like to know the names of the people I send to the doctor."

He's still not moving.

>Forget him, punch him with all your might and get on with your life.
>Shoot him. What an asshole.
>Stop, this seems suspicious.
>Find another way around (Like what?)
>Try vaulting over him.

>Are ye proud of kidnapping little girls? Jus' so aye know if you stay awake at night wonderin' if maybe one of the villages full of children had their mom or dad away on a trip when ye kidnapped them all.

Oh god I'm horrible at this pirate talk.
Let's see if we can't give him a dose of reality on just what he's done, maybe it'll fuck with his head enough to give us an advantage?
Most non-royalty associated with this don't actually seem to be inherently deserving of death.

Anyway, as we're gonna have a fight, is there any magic that can help us figure out if there's a trap or something around?
>>
>>41376522
>>41376593
Actually, could we combine some of these two votes?
Ask first, magic, then attack if it proves workable?
>>
>>41376456
>Ask what's this kidnapping all about
Even if he doesn't awnser, it could distract him for an attack.

You know, given we're using magic a lot, I really hope we get some upgrade for it.
>>
>>41376852
Has Jack used magic all that much? I can't recall using it over his gun/sword in most instances.
>>
>>41377001
Well I mean he's used it some, hasn't he?
Some upgrade seems fitting...

>>41375158
Also, I don't believe I've said this before, but the little enthusiasic descriptions you give of characters are really nice, Announcer.

It still makes me wonder why Madeliene was left basically empty compared to everyone else.

You walk up the stairwell, continuing until you can almost touch the man.
His skin, it's almost pure white. It's amazing that it can even be called skin at all. It's been aged like leather, but has the consistency of fine brass. It's almost unnerving to look at. His clothing seems to be simple fur wrappings, not much in terms of armor. You're not sure if that counts as a barrier jacket or not, and you rather not find out.

"So tell me somethin'" You stop almost right up in his face. "Ye proud of kidnappin' little girls?"
No response.
"Just wanted to know, do ye stay awake at night wonderin' if maybe one of the villages full of children had their parents away on a trip? Or if maybe a kid had been out fishing at the river, comin' back home to find nothin' at all?"

No response.
"Ye know, I have. I've asked myself that lots of times. Aye know it has to have happened at least once, somewhere."

"That would be something for a kingdom to worry about, Jack. Not a hero. Heroes exist to worry about the problems of the world. Your attention is too important to-"

He doesn't get to finish, a wave of water enters right into his windpipe and throws him back from the doorway.
You are so sick of people trying to lecture you. You just want to drown every last evil bear that has tried to give you a stern talking to just because you think they're morally superior in every way.
Screw them.

The wave of water rushes around and over that jerk, he pitches backwards.
But then catches his footing?
He stands up to the tide of water, all the while gagging and coughing. He throws the remaining wave away as he regains his composure outside of the door.

You step outside and confront him once more.
"You're pretty strong, Jack." He gives you a thumbs up.

>"Go to hell"
>Jump away from him, you're done reasoning with him.
>Examine him some more, continue talking.
>Why didn't that water finish him off? He should be an animal ball.
>Maybe traditional weapons are the trick.

OK who the hell is this guy?
Is, is he another hero?

"Ye tougher than ye look."
"I can say the same for you, Jack."

You're willing to put him to the test.
With a quick motion of your wrist, you take out your revolver and your cutlass. Before he can even react, you shoot him with one and gash him with the other.

The bullet bounces off his steely skin, and the cutlass barely leaves even more than a mark.
He stands completely still, taking each hit. You try again with the cutlass, striking him again and again.

Every hit seems to leave a tiny indentation on his skin, but he remains firm. Never moving a muscle to attack or block any of your strikes. His clothes still remain perfectly formed and well-attached to his body.

You notice something, something completely unexpected from any of your fights here.

He's.
Bleeding.

It's very light, barely enough to warrant a scratch. It would normally be considered a standard shaving cut, but it's still blood! You haven't seen that in a very, very long time.
Why is he bleeding?

"Yer Bleedin'."

He looks along his arm, and notices the single drop of blood.
"I am so thankful to feel pain again, Jack." He whisks it off his arm, scratching at the tiny cut. "It has been so long that I forgot what the feeling was even like."

You keep your gun leveled at him, "What the hell are you!? What are you even doing here?"

"I should ask you the same, Jack." He stretches, "This is my homeland, my kingdom. Here, you're the intruder."
"..And the people ye kidnapped? Are they not intruders also?"

"Every kingdom needs a populace. "

>"I'm going to shoot you now."
>"So you're.. what, a king? A hero?"
>This guy is crazy too, leave him.
>Don't even give him warning, just shoot him.

"So what does that make ye?" You ask, genuinely curious about this new being that stands before you. "Are ye a king? A hero? A god? A drunkard? What are ye?"

"I am a man that yearns for a home which he no longer has. Mind if I answer that with a story, Jack?"

Oh no. Damn it, you were hoping you wouldn't have to stay here long.

"Once upon a time, there was a great kingdom that stood right here where we are standing right now. It was so massive that it stretched from here all the way to the kingdom that you call your own. They had the most people, and therefore the strongest barrier and the strongest hero in the entire land. One that protected them from the harsh winters, and the terrifying monsters of the north. "

"Aye don't get where yer goin' with this-"
"-Then, the king went and did the most selfish thing imaginable. He died! He went to bed one night, and didn't wake up. He didn't even tell anyone that he was going to do that. Soon, his kingdom started to empty, and with it the mighty barrier started to move south, with the people."

"So what does that-"
"You want peace, and I want a home. I think we can make a fair trade. Will you help me rebuild my home, Jack? These villagers were a good start, but I need a stronger populace for a stronger barrier."

Nope!
"HA HA YER CRAZY, MATEY!" You laugh in glorious glee as your revolver discharges all four shots. You immediately dart backwards and leap up onto the roof, throwing a wall of water behind you.
"YER CRAZY AND I HOPE YE REST IN DAVY JONES LOCKER! MAYBE TRY ASKIN' FOR VOLUNTEERS NEXT TIME!"

You throw another wall of water, just in case. With that, the wall of a nearby building collapses and buries the monster of a man.
"I gotta get the hell outta-"

Before you can respond, you hear a crash. Looking above you, there is that man again.
He's using emblem magic, it looks like fire!

"Eep!" you throw another wave which evaporates into a mighty cloud of searing-hot steam as it meets his wall of flame. He slams onto the building, and starts using more barrier magic.
Electricity, he's using electricity this time! He knows how to use two different types of emblem magic!

"Nope!" You immediately bash the roof of the building, causing the foundation to collapse from under you.
You fall several stories, back into the sewer beneath the city streets. You can hear his electricity arc and explode meters above your head.

You stand up and dust yourself off, if there was any time to leave, it's definitely now.

--

There's practically a mountain of animal balls outside of the bar. As well as a very confused populace worriedly talking amongst themselves.
"Jack!" You jump, nearly terrified of something else that could possibly be a huge problem.
Nope, it's just Madeleine. She slithers down from a tree, and for some reason she has an animal ball coiled tightly in her tail.

"We were getting worried about you! What happened!"
You open your mouth to speak, but she wraps her arms and tail around you and squeezes. A tiny squeak comes out, before she releases you.
Her face is flustered, but she tries looking away in hopes that you didn't see her.

"Madeleine! We gotta go!" You shout.
"Huh? Why?"
"Big man! Two big man! They're right behind me. Get everyone together, this ship is sailin'!"

"Whatever you say, Captain." She does a mock salute and smiles warmly, with a cute blush on her cheeks.

It almost makes you forget impending doom lurking a few blocks behind you, almost.

Thanks to everyone for the thread, Sorry it was shorter than normal. But hey, we got actual plot out of the way. That's always good! And we're returning home, which means we can get back to what makes Dog Days fun again!

Probably because she already had some time in the limelight, while Madeleine, besides her introduction in the cat kingdom, has just been the chick who cooks delicious stuff at the shrine.

Madeliene had her own thread too though, remember? She showed us she's like a bad ass alchemist/rouge hybrid.

I count this as an extension of that one. Besides, if we get back Tuile will have plenty of opportunities to shine doing princess stuff.
