You have, at this point, effectively-

And literally, you suppose-

-Decimated the bison creatures.

Sheskza is mostly safe, momentarily. Jin is in the air. Your adrenaline is still running full out, and you'd very much like to replace the one-in-ten you've got going at the moment with something more thorough. Like the obliteration of the entire herd.

You're aware, of course, that you cannot eat or carry that much. Not easily, anyway. But your blood is up, your sister is hurt, and the line between predatory and protective instincts has vanished under your rather wrathful emotional state. You've already decided that the bull will be dinner. Possibly lunch. Any other outcome is unacceptable.

For now, though-

You grab another horned monster as it charges you, catching the curled spikes of bone and wrenching them around like a steering wheel.
The beast's neck gives out with a crunch, and you toss the thing to the side, a tumbling pile of fur and limbs and hooves.

The bull is regaining it's feet, looking for all the world like it's picked a fight with a tornado made of fire and razor blades-
An accurate sort of assumption, given Jin's recent penchant for lighting herself on fire, and exploding as she rakes her prey.

You glare at it, blood still boiling, hissing and clicking softly in your anger.

>Priorities: Get Sheszka out of the lake. Dinner can wait.
>Shezka is mostly safe on your new island- Introduce the world to the concept of burgers. Start by grinding up the bull.
>Thin out the herd before the thing starts to charge again.
>Other (?)

Did I miss the "possible evolutions" discussion?
>>
>>41372220
REQM posted a few possible evos, of which some were such we had already unlocked and some not.

>Tyrant Arachne, Deinos Arachne, Sovereign Arachne, Grave Lord Arachne, Cinder Arachne
>>
>>41372220
We've got names for a few, but no details.

Tyrant, Deinos, Sovereign, Grave Lord and Cinder, with others potentially.
>>
>>41372220
>>41372245
Note, because there was some confusion

Grave Lord Arachne
Is just the generic Lord evolution slapped on the Grave Arachne, not the advancement of the Grave Arachne. (Which I suspect is Deino Arachne since it sounds the most super-predator like)
>>
>>41372245
If I recall, he also stated that those weren't the only options either. There are other names he hasn't revealed yet.
>>
>>41372245
>>41372253
Deinos makes me think of Deinonychus which means terrible claw.
>>
>>41372275
>he also stated that those weren't the only options either
Also true. I think he mentioned somewhere how many we had qualified for already, I think 3 but I can't find it anymore.

He also said Deino and Tyrant are of those 5 the biggest spiderbutts.

>>41372287
>Deinos makes me think of Deinonychus which means terrible claw.
Deino does mean Terrile/Terrifying.

And it makes me think of dino.
>>
>>41371866
REQM, please answer my query so, what Evo will increase the size of our skull which rests on our butt? Not to be confused with the butt itself.
>>
>>41372287
Pretty sure it simply comes from "deinos":

δεινός • (deinós) m, δεινή f, δεινόν n; first/second declension

terrible, horrible, fearful, astounding
(neuter substantive) danger
marvelous, mighty, powerful
wondrous, strange
able, skillful, clever

>>41372253
>>41372262
So in conclusion they likely come down to:

Tyrant: Dominate the shit out of others (probably acquired through the wolves)
Deinos: The murdertrain has no breaks
Sovereign: More traditional leadership evo (probably acquired through our friends)
Grave Lord: Lord Evolution, likely focused on skill ranks as opposed to having more innate abilities
Cinder; Burninating the countryside
>>
>>41372370
All evolutions come with complimentary cosmetic butt upgrades.
>>
>>41372406
>So in conclusion they likely come down to:
Thats basically what I had speculated back then too.
Really only what exactly Tyrant means in effect is sort of ambigious.
Is its ruling through strength/dominance and comes with physical enhancements?
Or is it the fear/intimidation based one and comes from our crit indimidate in the river journey.
>>

Evolutions that come with smaller "forms" one can take at will or something.
Because I can't help but think cities further away from the forest will be even less Arachne sized than this town was.

>Evolutions that come with smaller "forms" one can take at will or something.

>Wanting to diminish our glorious arachnid shape
>>
>>41372549
Shezka can resize herself enough to fit into our buttskull eyesocket without problems.

That's not our schtick, and quite frankly, I don't want it to be.
>>
>>41372590
>Shezka can resize herself enough to fit into our buttskull eyesocket without problems.
And Sheszka is a were-best, shapeshifting is kind of her thing.
>>
>>41372590
That's contortion, not shapeshifting.
>>
>>41372597
I'd agree, with the condition that she might need to shapeshift if her evolutions get bigger. Remember ultra-mega-underground Shelob early on?
>>
Evolution time? Hmmm... lots of good choices. Looking forward to the vote
>>
I will be sad if when we evolve we don't have ranks in the achievement "Carry the team".

And hopefully we'll see Jin's evolution today. Calling it now, Cliffhanger.
>>
>>41372652
I, for one, am also against being that big.
>>
>>41372524
A few have alternate forms rather than actual shapeshifting.

But the trade cities are built around catering to anyone and everyone- You don't need to worry about being too big for streets or anything like that.
>>
>>41372667
>And hopefully we'll see Jin's evolution today.
Jin and Lyra might evolve together if we are lucky.
>>
Worry wars momentarily with anger- That burning urge to have Sheszka in your hands, so you know she's safe, the absolute surety that you can protect her pushes against the writhing stream of fury that has you narrowing your eyes, smoke curling around you as you glare at the animal that dared to attack your friends.

The situation seems to even penetrate the monstrous skull of the bull, the beast's own fury tempered by your radiating enmity.

You uncurl your hands, chitin creaking gently as it's released from the pressure of your tightened fists, and step towards the bull.

The herd is in a full rout now- Bison bellow and flee all around you, though they make a wide berth around you as you head for their leader.
Above you, Jin screeches as she dives, the terrifying whistle-noise growing louder as she drops from the sky to rake anything that dares draw nearer to you. Sheszka is making her way towards the shore, a flash frozen bridge courtesy of her own power.

The stampede around you is growing, the thundering pound of hooves on the packed earth matching your own tremor-enhanced steps.
A bison breaks free of the crowded wave moving around you, throwing its head side to side as it charges, eyes rolling in fear.

You catch it, plucking it from the ground, your muscles offering a minor complaint as you heave it over the flow of beasts, the plaintive moo of your victim cut short as it collides with the bull, staggering the giant bison to one side.

You hiss a curt warning and charge.

You plow through the crowd, casting aside panicking creatures, emerging from the other side of them like a burning goddess of war, bearing down on the object of your rage with a noise dredged up from some fevered nightmare.

The bison tries to meet you, horns to your outstretched hands, but you're augmented by magic, by anger, by speed- by the utter certainty that this thing will never again bring harm to those around you.

So, we might as well plan what to do after the slaughter is over now, instead of it eating time later.

After we've recovered Shez and fussed over her, of course.

Since we've apparently slaughtered a couple dozen of these things, and it seems a bit shitty to just leave them to go to waste, I say we make a train.

Start with the bull and web its hind legs to the horns of the next biggest. Then the next biggest and so on. Not counting any that we tore apart or something.

Then tie a webline to the head of the bull and lash it to the 'horn' of our skullbutt. Then we drag the meat-train back to camp and have everyone stare at us wondering What The Fuck?

What about Griffon-eater?
>>
No matter your determination, the bull is still a monstrous bison- In size, ability. In weight and power.

It slams into you, head lowered, abandoning its skittish indecision, fighting for its life.
You can feel your armour flex under its attack, driving the air from you, your limbs scrabbling a bit as you're pushed back.

The furrows you've left behind hiss, stone turning molten, sand and dirt burning away into glass.

The creature is starting to to reverse, trying to pull away from you, to charge again and again until it has driven you off-
You aren't a bull, or a bison.
And you don't fight like that.

Your arms wrap around the beast from above, enfolding it as beast you can.
It bleats, bellows as your claws dig in, your arms compressing it, muscles finally, truly burning as you hold it against yourself.

It tries to toss its head, to break free, but all it can manage is to score your armour, adding to your already considerable collection of dents and rips, a visible patchwork of your fights.

With a hiss of protest, you lift the creature.

It rises into the air tail first, legs kicking weakly as the blood rushes to its head.

Your legs flex gently, your power calls out the earth, stone beneath you hardening, layering over itself. You hiss once more, the sight of your waterlogged wolf reaching shore, her arm hanging at her side all the motivation you need.

Your arms tighten, shoulders taut, and you drive the beast face first into the ground.

The impact jars the earth itself, cracks horns, pulls another mooing bellow forth, the thump of the impact accompanied by the creak of bone.
And again.
And again.
And again.
>>
>>41373732

You stop when the movement stops, dropping a shattered, limp body to the ground, your breathing heavy and laboured, sweat stinging your uppermost eyes, and you step around the body, ignoring the pooling blood to see to your sister.

Jin swoops in, alighting on your skull, still covered in the glow of her magic.

There are bodies strewn all around, and you leave them where they are as you move to the side of the injured wolf.
Who is looking away from you, to a scaly looking tentacle, dragging a carcass back to the water.

You stop and stare.

>2. What is jerky
That's a good question, what IS jerky? How do you make jerky? Do WE know how to make jerky? Does anyone in the caravan know how to make jerky? Do people in this world call jerky by another name?
>>
>>41374701
>>41374644
there is someone on the caravan who knows how to make jerky, but the logistic challenge of jerking this many bison ensures many of them will go bad.

Unless we succeed in a truly staggering eating challenge.
>>
>>41374701

Do you really not know how to make jerky?

I thought that was one of things that everyone knew how to make.
>>
>>41374701
Jerky is basically dried and smoked meat. But considering the sheer mass of meat here, it would take forever to prepare it all.

Better to drag it all back, butcher, cook and eat as much as possible, then get a great iron pot and stew as much meat as possible.
>>
>>41374701
>Do WE know how to make jerky? Does anyone in the caravan know how to make jerky?
Lyra already ate jerky.
>>
>>41374750
Just eat it. All of it. Suddenly unlock a big eater evolution.
>>
>>41374728
>Do you really not know how to make jerky?
I have never had to dry and smoke any amount of meat because I am City-Scum.

But please, do tell the logistics of how to jerk meat so that we can figure out beforehand how to sent up an effective factory-line of jerky.

>>41374771
Must've forgot that.
>>
>>41374784
This is a road you don't want to go down, anon.
>>
>>41374794

To make jerky, you just cut thin strips of meat off of basically anything, lay it over something thin and elevated like string or a stick, and stick a fire about two or three feet under it.

Sunlight and smoke does all the rest, if you want any spices or something you either lather the meat with it, or put the spices in the fire, the sunlight dries the meat and the smoke either adds or seals in flavor.

It would usually take anywhere from a day to two days to be entirely cured in sunlight.

Ignoring the fact that your arms feel sort of like limp noodles, you manage to pull one up into the air, shaking it in a sedate imitation of anger as you voice your objections at the be-tentacled thief.

"Hey! HEY! THAT IS MINE, YES! I KILLED IT!"

Sheszka looks at you like you've finally lost it- which, to be honest, only makes you question her sanity. As far as your activities spider go, shouting at strange giant monsters barely registered.

Huh.

Now that you think about it, you're actually more concerned about your complete lack of concern.
You can probably excuse half of it with simple emotional burnout- Worrying about people takes a lot out of you. And the rest...
You guess giant monsters just don't register any more.

You file away that revelation to consider later. Maybe when you're rested and no longer feeling like you've been stretched thin.

The tentacle coils up and away from the bison, twisting over itself in some semblance of... and apology?
You blink slowly.

And then a thick, burbling sort of voice emerges from the lake.

"Ahhhhh- My apologies. I haaad thought that one would be of noooo concern."

You tilt your head to the side, make note of your continued lack of concern or surprise, and respond.
"That is- It is not the number, yes? There are more than enough. You should ask first. It is polite."

The voice- a male voice, as far as you can tell- in an underwater, giant monster sort of way- answers with a gurgling chuckle.
"I seeee. Usually there is moooore screaming."
>>
>>41374894
oh, it's asking first.
Well, that's fine then.
>>
>>41374894
The tentacle flips upwards, curling, a gesture reminiscent of an open hand, adding to the surreal nature of the whole scene.

"Theeeeen- May I?"

You wave towards the lake.
"Go ahead, yes."
"Mmmmmhm."

More tentacles join the first, and a few corpses are dragged into the water, vanishing below the surface, a single warbling "Thaaaank you" all the evidence that they were ever there.

And all the blood, you suppose.

You nod once to the now still lake.

Maybe you just won't ever swim again?
If something like that likes here, then the ocean...

Or maybe things like crocodiles in the sewers are a bit more real life, here.

You push it to the back of your mind.

There's things that actually require your attention. Namely, one wolf, specifically, Sheszka.
You skitter the last few steps to her side, one hand to her head, another to her shoulder. She sighs immediately, leaning into you, eyes downcast.

Her arm is- Well, it isn't the right colour. But there's no bone poking out, thankfully. A simple break, then?
You frown slightly, lips drawn and thin.

You do not, in fact, know the difference between a simple break and... whatever other kinds of breaks there are.

"Are you okay?"
The wolf looks up, her face a little pale, eyes still unwilling to meet yours.
"Aside from the arm, yes? You are not hurt anywhere else?"

She shakes her head.
"I am sorry. Lyra."

You're fairly certain you know what's coming.

"I failed. I was- I wasn't-"

You scoop her up. Giant or not, you can still hold her. Even if your arms are a little strained right now.
"Shush, you. You were cocky, yes? You ran in without thinking."
"... Mm."
"Then learn from it. You are still alive. You didn't fail anyone."

You ruffle her hair gently, reaching up and past her sodden bangs to scratch at her ears.
"Yes, alpha."

You sigh.
"Stop that. Someone will look at you back at the caravan, yes."

The trip back took less time than organizing the bison in a way you could manage.
At the end, you wound up hauling a train of the things back to the road, then alongside it- Till you reached the caravan.
And then, of course, comes all the explaining.
"This is hunting?"

"Yes?"
>>
>>41376186
Kenzington has his arms over his chest. He did let you take Sheszka to Nin and the other healers, and Jin just sort of escaped, but you're stuck here owning up to everything, now.

Technically, Ezzy is there. But she's sleeping, so it doesn't count.

"In what way is this sorta thing hunting?"
"...I will be eating them?"
"This many."
"I got a bit angry, yes? When Sheszka got hurt."

He sighs, rubbing at his temples.
"People're already worried about the earthquakes. Bloody-"
"That was probably me."
"What."
"Yes."

"I- just. Okay."

You spend the next bit alongside the wagons, hauling your dinner-
And likely, everyone else' dinner as well.

As the light dims, tents are pitched, the wagons drawn into a circle. Fires are set up- some for cooking, some for light and warmth. The watch goes out, posted to the edge of the tents, sitting and waiting and hoping there'll be no trouble.

Sheszka, Nin, Jin- They all turn up eventually, the owl swooping in to be fed before her shift, Nin accompanying the now sling-bound wolf.

And you work quietly, your thoughts far too loud.

Some bison is set aside. A burger would be nice. But you'll need to grind up the meat. And cheese. Cheese is important. And bread. You could probably cook bread. Given ingredients. And instructions. And an oven with good airflow and an even temperature.

For now, though-

For now, everyone gets steaks.

A rather vast metal plate lies before you, suspended over a pair of rocks, a fire billowing merrily beneath it.
Above it, fat and juices spit and trickle everywhere, the sizzle of cooking beef bringing half the camp to wait just outside your firelight.

You focus as you cook, handing out thick, seared slabs of steak, muttered thanks slowly being accompanied by a growing sound of chatter and cheer.

For you, though...

Well, there's the matter with the lake monster, to start.
When did it get to the point where you can encounter giant monsters without blinking? Even talking ones?
You would think that you would start at that, usually? Probably?

"What are you worrying about?"
"Huh?"

You blink slowly, another steak poised over the grill.

Nin is at your side, watching you with her head perched on her hands, Sheszka snoring gently beside her, the wolf curled around her own arm to protect it.

"I said, what are you worrying about?"
You pause a moment.
"Was- Was all that out loud?"
"Out quiet, mostly."
"Ah."
>>
>>41377561
You repress the urge to blush.
"Then- You know what I am worrying about, yes?"
"I don't understand why, though?"
"Why not?"
"Lyra- You know you are a giant monster, right?"

"What?"

"You- You are a giant monster."
"Wha- I am not that big, yes?"
"What about compared to me? To a human? Ezzy?"
"Eh- I mean, that is not-"
"It is absolutely the same."

"Maybe."
"Mhm." Is all the response she gives to that.

"Anyway, that doesn't explain why I'm not afraid of the other ones, yes? The ones bigger than me!"
"How many 'giant monsters' have you hunted now?"
"Uh-"
"Well?"
"A few?"
"A lot."
"Okay."

This is one of those arguments you can't win, isn't it? You have a feeling that dissuading Nin isn't going to happen.

"So, why would you be afraid of them?"
"Er."
"You hunt and eat them."

You make to scratch your head, but you catch yourself at the last second.
You don't want the blood and fat and grease in your hair.

"And-"
"Okay, yes?"
"Okay?"

She turns to face you, antennae bouncing as she looks you in the eyes.
"I understand, yes? So... thank you."
"Mhm. You can talk to me, okay? Don't worry about things by yourself."
"I'll- I'll keep it in mind."
"I can be your advisor as well as your herald, and-"

You had a headache by the time you dragged her off to bed.

______________________________________________________________

YOU HAVE EXCEEDED THE MINIMUM REQUIRED LEVEL

RANK UP IS NOW POSSIBLE

This is new.

The voice's echo fades in your head, your dream, but-

Hm.

You're in a darkened room. Sort of. You can't feel any floor. And it doesn't seem enclosed, either. A darkened space, maybe? But magical darkness, as you also can't see anything at all past your own nose.

You call up a burst of flame, using your hand like a torch- And all it really does is impress you with the sheer oppressiveness of the dark surrounding you. You can see your hand, limned in fire.

And nothing else.

Wait.

No, there is something...

You squint, but that doesn't offer you any real improvements to your vision. Beyond where you're standing- or floating, or whatever- There's six points of light. Pinpricks in the infinite shadows of this place, but still-

You make your way closer, halting a few times- Moving feels weird for some reason. Off.
You start and stop a few times, trying to put your finger on it when it finally hits you, sending a chill down your spine-

It feels like you're moving with two legs again. And eight. At the same time. A phantom response, a ghostly, half-second late sensation of knees and ankles and feet, toes splaying against the ground and pushing off.

You shiver again, suddenly aware of how soft your hands feel, the distinct sensation of two sets of eyes blinking, of your tongue across your teeth and your fangs simultaneously.

You try to shrug it off, moving towards the lights, each a static, shimmering point in the well of darkness around you.
You reach the first, and your hand moves forwards, fingers outstretched towards it, the twitch of static pulsing through you as you touch it.

There's a brilliant moment of whiteness in your head, as everything is pushed aside- your twinned sensations, your feelings, all your vague worries and confusion-

>>

>>
>>41377731
And it's replaced by heat. By the quick flaring burn of fire, by strength, the smouldering power of your own form incomparable to what you had even as an arachne. Though all is still darkness around you, there's the sensation of submissiveness from the shadows. As though they were bowing. And it feels... it feels right. As though they should bow. To your strength, to you. You yell, and your voice echoes in the air, the tone of it driving into your followers, your worshippers, and they respond. Instantly, immediately.

Your hand snaps away from the light, and the sensation fades, leaving only the memory of a name.

TYRANT ARACHNE.

You skitter and step away, trying to find your breath, and run straight into another light.

This one feels more familiar- you still can't see, but the forest is all around you. Somehow.
Each step hammers the ground, each breath is a rasping promise to every creature around. That you are the greatest of them- An alpha predator. Unafraid. Unstoppable. Your head swings around as you scent something, blood and meat and fur- Muscles tense, chitin clicks, your body more powerful than ever before, lungs swelling-
The air leaves you all at once, a roar blasting through the leaves, a primal sound of fury and bloodlust, a warning and an oath.

That you are here, that you are-

You stumble away, blinking the sensations away as your had clears from the heady feeling of the hunt.

DEINOS ARACHNE.

You can't help but wonder if you'll remember any of this come morning.

You spend a second, letting your heartbeat slow, looking to the other twinkling lights.
Each point a new form.

You step forward again, bracing yourself, for all it's worth.
>>
>>41377750
>So we tankbutt now, right?
Grave Arachne was the "hunt and kill huge things" evolution.
We are somewhat tankbutt since the first though.
>>
>>41377760
The next is sweltering heat, so thick that the air itself feels heavy, your lungs more like the bellows of a forge than delicate organs meant to draw breath. You exhale, and you can feel, rather than see- a thick plume of smoke escaping your throat. Your hands clench, and you can feel answers- not just the push and pull of your muscles, but the thunder of the flow of earth, somewhere deep and far away. The rumble of stone against stone, the pressurized surge of liquid rock, the heat of it, not just below, but in your veins, the tremor that is your heartbeat, answered by the earth. The slow movement of your power, before all at once-

You're released from the spark, dazed all the same, the beat of your furnace heart still echoing int your ears.

CINDER ARACHNE.

You toss your head, hair shifting as you move to the next.

As your fingers close over this the orb, a sense of weight falls over your shoulders- Not something physical, but rather- The knowledge, the feeling of something. Responsibility? You feel light on your feet. Strong. There are shadows behind you- People to protect. But there are others- at your sides, before you, all around, each waiting for your words. Your voice feels strong. Like your words are backed by not just your intent, your promises, but something else. All around you, shades move as you speak, and you raise your own weapons, power swelling in them-

It feels like there's something at your brow, but as you brush it away the phantom feeling recedes.

SOVEREIGN ARACHNE.

You grimace at the name, moving again to touch another spark.
>>
Wow these are kinda sinister.
>>
>>41377794
Yes, we are a giant predatory spider. Glad you could join us.
>>
>>41377793

This time, the ringing is in your ears, twitching in time with phantom sounds, the feel of metal before you, around you. Your breathe is sparks, your hands hammers. You are a forge, an anvil. Things form beneath your fingers, and you wield your own creations with all the skill of someone who knows them inside and out. The fire inside you burns slow, growing welling up until you're incandescent, blazing-

All the air escapes your lungs at once as you stagger to the next spark, the sensation of heat still oozing off you.

HEARTH ARACHNE.

You can't- You can't quite remember the last times. The evolutions, growths, whatever you want to call them.
But you're fairly certain they weren't like this? If you really concentrate, you don't remember any choices. Just- Just the voice, and an offer, and waking to a new body.

You frown, and reach for the last spark.

This one- this feels like yourself. Like you are. But not quite. Like you're- Like you are sharper, and there's an oppressive sort of feeling...
There's something on your hands. And your head, too. Horns? And something glimmering. And a feeling- You push at it, with your will, your power, and it expands, becoming, changing- You feel invincible, strong, armed and armoured. Like nothing can stop you, nothing can face you. You raise your weapons, a piece of you, now more than ever.

The feeling fades slowly, like an image that had overlapped your own slowly vanishing.
Your hands close gently, the sensation of the weapons still there.

GRAVE LORD ARACHNE.

You look up again after a short while, still trapped amidst the shadows.
But around you-

Around you, the sparks have started to cluster, spinning, turning- Each staying just within reach.
It's obvious what they want. A choice.
You have to make a choice.

>HEARTH ARACHNE
WE MASTER WEAPONSMITH OF BEST WEAPONS NOW
>>
Deinos sounds most like us since we ARE the alpha predator, We always have been
>>
>>41377868
Would any choices, cinder especially, make us physically weaker in exchange for a boost in other areas?
>>
Definitely not feeling the Grave Lord, the Cinder, Sovereign and Tyrant are kinda appealing though.

Also feel like this is kinda appropriate right now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htDB8SuLrng&ab_channel=Catbus
>>
I suppose Tyrant doesnt have much chance, since most will find it too bad.

Deino is basically the advancedform of what we are right now, even bigger predator spider.
Which is awesome, IMO.

Cinder is just Lava spider, you like it or you don't.

Sovereign. Oh god. Nin.
But honestly that sort of leadership doesn't seem like something Lyra has done before, she leads from the front, she isn't really a "give orders and organise" sort of giant spider.

Hearth. Hephaistos spider, fuck yeah.

Grave Lord is just the Lord evolution. Eh. Too generic for me.
>>
Honestly DEINOS sound the most like Lyra to me. Find big things and eat them
>>
>>41377814
>SOVEREIGN ARACHNE

You know you want it Lyra.
>>
Oh wow, they all sound awesome.
>>
So, I'm thinking either Cinder, Soveriegn or Grave Lord.
Cinder because more fire is always good.
Sovereign because being queen is ievitable.
Grave Lord sounds real fuckin Nito.I'm not sorry.
>>
okay, so, what are each of the forms?

Tyrant is just us, but bigger and smashier.
Grave lord is us with horns and better skills.

What the fuck is deinos? And sovereign? I guess sovereign is if we want to diplomacy things.
>>
>>41377868
How long till the next evo after this?
>>
>>41377868

I'm going with either tyrant or deinos, whichever seems to be doing the best.
>>
I'm liking Tyrant, myself. Although, I'll admit, I still enjoy the idea of Lyra being NANOMACHINES.
>>
>>41377915
>>41377856
I want to remind everyone to keep their windows closed and the light on to keep infiltrating moths away from their computers.
>>
>>41377935
isn't tyrant the NANOMACHINES option?
Because I am choosing that one currently.
>>
I like deinos and sovereign, but I definitely feel sovereign would be the better choice for us in the long run, building off that protector blessing and all that.
>>
>>41377919
No tyrant is the first thing, Deinos is the bigger form
>>
>>41377868
How is voting going to work, do we get one choice, or can we vote for several things? Or do you make it FD style?
>>
>>41377950
Sorry, that was what I meant. My wording may have been strange.
>>
>CINDER ARACHNE
We will be the warmest spiderbutt.
We will celebrate by having hambuggahs
on the mobile grill that is our spiderbutt
>>
I love of the whole Tyrant description and then we go right back to being Lyra.

A massive being of pure Terror! A horrid spider with earth and fire at her call!

"Hello! Why are you cowering yes?"
>>
Guys reread, The descritption comes FIRST for the thing and then the name
>>
>>41377955
>building off that protector blessing
All the options do that. None of them prevent us from being a protector.

>>41377950
>isn't tyrant the NANOMACHINES option?
No Deino is more that. Tyrant is more the "FEAR ME" option.
I'm pretty sure Deino has the higher physical stats.
>>
The Soverign seems like we give buffs to people we lead into battle.

definitely don't want the Lord as skills are something we can pick up on our own but new special abilities are not.
>>
Guys.

With Hearth Arachne

We can make all of the bestest weapons

and be forgespider supreme
>>
>>41377961
Tyrant is the smashier big form.
Deimos is the dodgier big form.
I choose the smashy big form.
>>
I'm honestly not feeling Sovereign.
Being responsible and stuff honestly doesn't seem all that fitting or interesting.
I do like the smithing stuff, but I don't want to focus our evolution around it.
Grave Lord is just a bit boring I think.

Cinder sounds pretty cool, Deinos is pretty damn metal and Tyrant is kind of awesome.
>>
>>41377955
Well, some say the best defense is a good offense
>proactive spiderbutt, anyone?
>preferably using fire?
>>
>>41378010
>Tyrant is the smashier big form.
>Deimos is the dodgier big form.
I don't think thats what it is. Tyrant seems more like a hybrid of Deino and Sovereign.
>>
>>41378004
I am pretty sure tyrant is the one with the STR, and deinoss the one with the AGI.
>>
>>41378010
You obviously didn't read, Tyrant is just making others submit, Not smashier
>>
I like sovereign, that looks like it has our protection blessing coupled with additional party buffs. Go full paladin.
>>
>>41378008
Industrial revolution Lyra.
>>

I choose Soveriegn.

Behold the Purple Skull.
>>
>>41377950
Nah, Deinos seems to be the NANOMACHINES option. Tyrant seems to be more like an aggressive leader equivalent to sovereign's more defensive leader. So I'd assume things like attack buffs for our allies and stuff.
>>
>>41378008
No that 's Sovereign, Hearth is being the weapons....all the weapons.
>>
>>41378010
I honestly got the impression that tyrant was the more intimidating form, while deinos was the 'rawr ima dino' form.
>>
Let's break it down:
> TYRANT ARACHNE
Sovereign type alpha, force of presence to cow threats, probably physical stat increased
> DEINOS ARACHNE
Primitive alpha. Physical stat boost a definite but costs us a degree of refinement.
> CINDER ARACHNE
Pure elemental, though predominantly focused on base elements of fire and earth
> SOVEREIGN ARACHNE
A leader class based around giving people bonuses
> HEARTH ARACHNE
Metalline elemental variant. Probably gives adept control over metal bending in real time.
> GRAVE LORD ARACHNE
Weapon use focused, described as basically being Lyra as she is now but with general stat upgrades.
>>
>>41378032
Deino seems like it's got more sensory packages and fighting fury than actual smashyness, though.
>>
>>41378040
I have to agree. I would prefer Lyra to be an inspirational leader, like the queen of England rather than a machiavellian tyrant
>>
>>41378038
>I am pretty sure tyrant is the one with the STR, and deinoss the one with the AGI.
Doesn't seem to suggest that to me, nothing suggest particular strength about Tyrant and Deino is clearly "super stronk"-the evolution.

Better just ask REQM

>>41377868
Is Tyrant the Strength evo to Deinos Dexterity evo, or is it more a Sovereign/Deino hybrid?
>>
>>41378041
Fuck off nin, It's being the weak leader in the back option and is fucking shit
>>
>>41378049
I dibnt think of it that way, I was thinking Tyrant as in Dinosaur Terrible Lizards but aggressive leadership makes sense, leading from the front and all.
>>
>>41378056
I think Tyrant is intimidating, while Deinos is even more of the Apex Predator thing.
>>
>>41378069
Deinos description included earth-shaking footsteps, which seems to suggest that it's pretty smashy
>>
>>41378069
>Deino seems like it's got more sensory packages and fighting fury than actual smashyness, though.
It also got that, but it gets that instead of Tyrants social parts.
Deino is the Alpha Predator option, I think its pretty safe to assume it got the highest physical stats, or at least equal to anything else.
>>
WE WERE NEVER A LEADER! LYRA NEVER WANTED TO BE A LEADER!
>>
I don't really like the intimidating OR the alpha predator angle, though.

So I guess I have to go with grave lord.
Because I am about us getting more smashlike and better for a good foight.
>>
Hearth arachne might be interesting
>metalbender when?
>>
>>41378053
No? Sovereign is clearly the leadership form.
Hearth is the forge.
>>
>>41378115

>Lyra has a fucking party and is the leader

Lyra is a leader.
>>
>>41378115
>WE WERE NEVER A LEADER! LYRA NEVER WANTED TO BE A LEADER!
The latter is true, the former is not.

>>41378119
>Because I am about us getting more smashlike
That would be Deino though. The difference between Deino/Tyrant and Lord is probably Stats vs Skills.
>>
>>41378065

My vote would be for Grave Lord, with the hopes that the remaining templates we've unlocked account for what we miss. We generally act more as a weapons user than anything else.

DEINOS is too primitive. TYRANT sounds too sinister. SOVEREIGN places us in a support role which we won't use properly. CINDER and HEARTH, while they have my heart haven't been things we've had the wherewithal to use lately.
>>
Damm, Tyrant or Deino here.
Soveriegn lost my vote because I do enjoy the whole everyone fearing the giant monster to avoid all queen responsibilities.
>>
>>41377814
>> SOVEREIGN ARACHNE
>>
>>41378119
While I do like the idea of being best at weapons, just think about the last fight we had. How much use did we make of our weapon as opposed to spidey strength and magic?
>>
>>41378121
Now, if anons vote right.
>>
>>41378139
Yeah, I might be leaning grave lord with you.
The others seem to exaggerate aspects of us that aren't super important to us in the first place. Which I guess past evolutions have done, but still.

My biggest problem:
The horns.
>>
>>41378065
Grave Lord is the metalline elemental and the weapons master....because you are the weapons.
>>
>>41377900
None of them will make you weaker. Physically or otherwise. Cinder's focus isn't physical power, but it would still come with a modest increase.

>>41377921
It depends on what Lyra gets up to, of course.
But you can expect either a significant period of time or some serious fighting before you see the next one.

Tyrant is more of a physical/charisma type thing.
Deinos is apex predator.
Sovereign is similarly physical/charisma, but with a different focus on the charisma side.
Lord is lord.
Cinder is volcano arachne.
Hearth is forge.
>>
I think I'm gonna throw my vote behind either Hearth or Tyrant as hearth gives us increased metalbending and elemental stuff while tyrant will let us fuckshit up all nicely in their faces.

It's either METAAAAAAAAAAAAAL, Deinos, or GraveLord for me.

This is a very big sticking point for me.
>>
>>41378139
Sovereign won't have us sitting in the back. We'd still be at the front as usual, but we'd be inspiring people to fight harder. Lead from the front.
>>
I'm leaning toward Sovereign. Nono, hear me out. Lyra already has charisma and a way with people. This doesnt mean she needs to rule, but it does means are friends are probably going to be better prepared and protected. It'll also be nice to be able to have more presence for later on.

>>
My biggest problem is I don't really like any of the choices that much.
None really... call out to me. Tyrant did when I was mistaken about what it did, but now, meh.

I'm kind of being sold on metal bending a little, but that isn't nearly as entertaining to watch in a textual medium.

She recently bullied a whole bunch of wolves into her service.
She still bullies Ezzie into training.
And she just now bullied octobro.
>>
>>41378346

Keep in mind, there are things we get in every evolutions that you CANNOT get with anything else. Basically, a lord type evolution would give us a massive boost with weapons use that only increased as we trained it. It's like having a +20 to shanking a bitch on top of whatever we get from training.

Looks like currently Hearth has the most 1 spots with 14 to Tyrants 13, due to a pretty large late game surge for it for some reason. Most of those also voted Tyrant low, while Hearth has a lot of middlings positions in addition. Its gonna be a close one.

All formats are easy to samefag for a determined enough samefagger.
And with this many voters there will always be at least one guy determined enough.
Just gotta trust that the large base of proper voters and similarly proportioned amount of samefagging on most sides makes the vote reasonably genuine.

Probably with some sort of proxy add-on to your browser, and a 5 or so prepared proxy profiles.
The you just vote, pick the next prxy profile in your dropdown list, wait the 5 seconds until your IP was changed and vote again until you run out.

I'm sort of baffled that it got so many top spots. Of all the things they represent forging and metalshaping is by far the thing Lyra did the least.
We had maybe two accounts of forging and we not even once used metalshaping in fights.

It looks to me like Hearth might have been the Anti-Tyrant vote.

There is a very strong correlation between voting high Hearth and low Tyrant. Nearly all votes with hearth in first or seond place voted Tyrant in fifth or sixth place.

>Honestly just count all of them, it makes no difference if they were "incorrect" or not.

The problem is that you have one or two votes that only put votes for three of the choices: you can't exactly have a fair way to distribute points to the other three. So, votes like that are invalid.

Its very obvious.
Sure, some voted for it because they liked it too.
>>
>>41379373

and Tyrant / Sovereign doesn't do that how?
>>
You do realize there are more practical applications of the ability to spontaneously create buildings than just magical turrets and emplacements.

We can pull a Wizard of Oz and drop a house on someone.

We can build all sorts of trenches, pits, and other faults in the ground and break enemies legs.

We can spontaneously use walls to block attacks, or a book shelf to immediately tip over on an enemy. In addition the ability to spontaneously create choke points is pretty nice.
>>
>>41379392
>If we never use forging, then it wouldn't be an option.

>>41379475

It's possible people just like the thought of being able to control metal, molten or otherwise over being Ultra-Smashy and Intimidating or controlling fire.
>>
Final analysis, with some margin of error and filling in missing 6th vote by deduction, though not correcting people who submitted less:
> Grave Lord: 115 pts
> Sovereign: 121 pts
> Tyrant: 172 pts
> Deinos: 172 pts
> Cinder: 185 pts
> Hearth: 196 pts

This is the count I have produced to the best of my ability, and notably places my personal choice somewhere far down the line. REQM, of course, has final say.
>>
>>41379475

>>
>>41379491

Industrial revolution has been mentioned 4 times, tow of those is complaining, the only other times people bring up Metalworking is so we can either turn people into pools of molten metal, or so we can make our own shit better than anyone else.

>>41379505

Perhaps the people who wanted hearth generally shared a desire not to pick the most intimidating evolution? The fourth legit vote was 1. Hearth, with 5. Tyrant. Next was vote eleven, also 5. Tyrant, vote twelve with 6. Tyrant, then vote nineteen with 4. Tyrant. (vote numbers could be off, my spreadsheet is anything but professional).

So all first-half votes that seemed to follow the same pattern. Could just be a matter of shared values instead of counter-votes.

>>
>>41379556
>I'd be happier with hearth if we actually focused on construction/crafting.
We will never do that. We get a evolution focusing on shit we never do, just alone because we spend most of the time traveling and hunting, we have neither the time nor do players have the focus to actually construct things or make use of a construction specilisation.

It was sheer mindless spite-voting and people hyping themselves for shit thats never going to happen.

>Piss off, We're going to use it for battle
Yeah because we keep doing that all the time.

Except not, we have literally not even once used metal bending in a fight and we never will because just using earth and fire is actually convenient while using metal is not.
>>
>>41379578

Huh? I think we'll do fine. I trust REQM enough to represent facets of everyone's choice in the final outcome. We won't be JUST an elemental spider. Our new form will likely reflect the weight of our experience, with enough variants to make it feel like Lyra and leave nobody wanting.

This is coming from someone who placed Hearth in third.
>>
>>41379556

Battle Forge-touching and metal bending is what we are going for, you fucking moron.

Being able to Forge and repair our own weapons and armor is just a side benefit.

We can now probably go FULL BALROG, but instead of Just "Fire" whips and weapons, we have serpents of molten metal coming from our hand that we use to fuck people up.
>>
Oh shit, I was so focused on weapon stuff that I didn't even realize that hearth would be armor too. We really could be metalbutt by making our own custom-fitting armor!

Also, we're on page 9 here, hopefully REQM is aware of this but just pointing it out for safety.
>>
>>41379576
Yeah, I'd be satisfied with Hearth if it turns our legs/claws into metal. Bonus points if we can draw up metal from the ground with the same amount of control we currently have over earth.
>>
>>41379644
>Battle Forge-touching and metal bending is what we are going for
Thats something we could have already done, wonder why we never did then you dipshit.

We will literally never do it for the exact same reason we never did it before.
>>
Oh shit variants, wonder how many we will get this time and how awesome they will be.
>>
Ok, seriously, what's with the spite all of a sudden in this thread?
>>
>>41379596

We also haven't used that magic in general either.

People are complaining about Hearth voters wanting their molten metal and metal bending shenanigans, and yet they seem to forget that a good deal of people wanted "Tyrant" just for the fucking JOKE of being a VERY INTIMIDATING SPIDAH that is actually Super-Fucking Nice.

So get bent.
>>
>>41379644
>Battle Forge-touching and metal bending
You mean those things we could always do and never did in a fight ever?

Nah, this evo will not matter for 99% of things we will do because its skillsets are the ones Lyra does the least out of everything she does.

>>
>>41379667

Exactly. We'll be something like a battle touched titan slayer with fire-earth boosts and protection domain. We'll just be a little more adept at shaping metal and using the weapons we have. Hell, maybe we can do the magneto thing if we get really good.
>>
>>41379695
We didn't do them in a fight because we could never do them. Additionally, at most we're fighting wild animals with MAYBE a bandit. That will not always be the case.
>>
>>41379686
I think no one expected Hearth to seriously win, a lot of people voted it relatively high and are angry now they sabotaged themselves.
And of course the winning option would always get salt. Unless it would have been Dino I guess.
>>
>>41379686
It just happens every evo, a thread or two of shitstorming and then no one mentions it again.
>>
>>41379607
You're right. Less salt and more... flax? Wahtever you call that stuff you use to bulk up products. Mechanically Recovered Meat, stuffing, whatever.

>>
>>41379705
And there were two evos that we didn't even get access to. Clearly REQM got a hold of a load of caffeine and this is drunk stupor of choices available to us.
>>
>>41379718
>We didn't do them in a fight because we could never do them.
Are you retarded? WE ALREADY HAVE METALSHAPING.
We could have ALWAYS done it. Literally in every fight ever.

And since Metalshaping is touch range there is literally no point in shaping the armour when we can just break it. Thats why we never use metalshaping because its just not a convenient solution. Its never the better thing to do in a fight.

>>
>>41379783
I put it third place myself, now I wish I would have put it lower, because I seriously did not see it coming as a option that was going to go high. I thought Cinder was going to be the one the elemental spergs pick.
>>
>>41379763
Did you read the rest of his post? We never used metal shaping in battle because we never fight things that HAVE metal stuff.
>>
>>41379763
Also the fact we've never fought armored opponents before, but let's just ignore that.

Let's also ignore the fact that metalshaping took minutes which is incredibly impractical in a battle situation, but will be much more viable now.
>>
>>41379803

Eh, Hearth spider gives us more flexibility, it's fire and earth where Cinder was just fire.

Plus, it's always nice to have more flexibility in general.
>>
>>41379814
>We never used metal shaping in battle because we never fight things that HAVE metal stuff.
And we are no likely going to do that alot, and since metalshaping is done by hand, we ae not likely going to use it against those tiehr, because we just use magic and spears.
>>
Noooooo, I missed the thread! oh well, personally was on the fence for deinos tyrant and hearth, small preference for deinos. so I am pleased. Also REQM is based QM
>>
As muc has I was very much against a certain evolution, I'm sure that whatever we get, Lyra will still be the same lovable spider she's always been, and will still get up to hijinks and have fun times with her friends.
>>
I can already see the description for this thread in the archives
>From 50 to over 800 Posts in under 2 Hours, all because of the Spider-Butt.
>>
>>41379820
>Let's also ignore the fact that metalshaping took minutes
It actually didn't. Shaping into specific shapes took time, but even Lyra reforging her spear took her not even a minute.

And we are not gointg to go into touch range with armoured opponents, how dumb would that be. We skewer them with our spear, or kill them with magic.
We're not going to let them get close enough to touch their armour 90% of the time.
>>
>>41379835
Okay. And? It has applicable uses outside of battle, anyways: Lyra's done a lot of work with forging, crafting, and home building and renovation. It's always been something that anons had interest in, so it's really unsurprising it did so well.
>>

The circles spin faster, faster around you, forming a single blurring line before you reach out-

You grimace at that.

Dry heat, hopefully. You can just ignore that, it's the humidity that gets you.

That is- That is not the shape your hand was last night.

You stop, brain tumbling over itself, flexing your fingers in the half-light of morning.

They're- Well, your hand looks like it's almost armoured, now. The tips of your fingers seem like they're metal, little veins running to your knuckles.

You shift your weight, sliding a long, menacing leg forwards- They're much the same. Heavier chitin. Capped with metal.

And you remember. The dream, the voice, the spiraling sparks of potential, all crowding in, fighting to be chosen-

ARACHNE LYRA HAS RANKED UP TO: -HEARTHBOUND TYRANT ARACHNE-
ARACHNE LYRA HAS RECIEVED: [BLESSING OF THE GOD OF RULE]
ARACHNE LYRA HAS RECIEVED: [BLESSING OF THE GOD OF THE FORGE]
______________________________________________________________

You sit very carefully and quietly in your tent, eyes blinking slowly, staring straight ahead.
You're not quite sure what to make of the title. Or the blessings. Maybe you should just lie to Nin.

You glance over your shoulder at your sleeping friends- They're where you left them, at least. Sort of.
The skull is- Not quite bigger. Still the size of your butt. But there's a horn and a half now, one side broken, the other curling proudly into the sky. It looks like it belonged to a dragon.

Hopefully that won't offend dragons.
Or you won't meet them.

You have the distinct impression that neither is particularly likely.
Call it a premonition.

The camp is starting to stir. You won't be able to stay in much longer.

So you take a deep breath and head out.

The murmur of voices stops flat as you emerge. People stare. Point.

...Behind you?

You twist, looking at your shell- Where a brilliant white harpy has landed, her head plumes twice the size of before, her tail trailing huge curling feathers like a mass of tails.

"Lyra!" Jin exclaims.
"I got bigger!"

You notice something?

Its the best possible compromise, the exact result won and then got augmented with something a lot of people wanted.
This basically gives the people who wanted the Forge stuff what they wanted, while giving all the physical buffs that Lyra should get from her lifestyle.

Flat tyrant wouldn't have had the metal-ly bits. Armour looking chitin, taller.
Sovereign would have had softer (more human) looking chitin. Also taller. It also would have had a crown like tattoo.
Hearth would've have veins of metal not only on hr legs and hands, but the skull as well.
Grave would've had a more changed skull, gems and the usual.
Cinder would've had 'chunky' chitin, resembling magma. Also, a scorched looking dragon skull.
Deinos would be bigger, with more 'aggressive' chitin.

It is night on the open road, stars winking overhead as the moon hangs low in the sky. Erics and Nialla sit side by side, lit a ruddy red by the dying embers of the campfire. While Nialla is still sad over her children leaving the forest, she knows that they are all safe. Well, maybe not one. Suddenly, she feels a twist in her gut. Something is wrong. It feels like...a grand change somewhere, plucking her mother's intuition. It can only mean one thing: Her daughter evolved. Again.

... Thats completly wrong though.
I significantly doubt people who married out of anything but personal interest would bother with one. Its just to spice up the sex.

That being said, i'm fairly sure what our parents had us get was a contraceptive, though there is no guarantee its the Adult(?) thing Nin got.
