You shake your head and refuse as politely as you can. Alright, you were already a bit iffy on the exorcism thing - you're not sure if it'll even work here, with the kind of issues your sempai is dealing with - but a crazy leader of a Pinky-worshipping cult who can 'walk' the Akashic Realm? If that doesn't sound shady, then you don't know what does! And you really, REALLY don't want to get Pinky involved in this more than she already is!

Wendy frowns here. "...Look. You just said you wanted to explore every option we got, and thoroughly. Literally not even five minutes ago, Green. Well, this is one of them, and how is it thorough if you're just gonna ignore one of them because you thought it sounded 'shady'?"

The American shakes her head. "Yeah, alright, I admit I didn't exactly do her any favors here, I know how I described her as - but she's not...bad. She's fucked up, a little loopy, but she isn't some dimestore psychopath who fucking crushes puppies underneath her heel for a giggle. She actually gives a shit, especially about the people who ask her for help."

You blink at Wendy here, somewhat surprised at Wendy's sudden, animated defense of this High Priestess of the Golden Land. This is...new. Something you haven't seen from Wendy before, the American Callidus responding with clear, obvous emotions - the real deal, rather than with their apathetic, sleep-deprived versions.

...Well, Manuke DID specify that someone who could interact with the Akashic Realm would help, so there's that, but...

The brown-haired Callidus stares at you sullenly for a couple of moments, before sighing. "...I owe Annie a lot. A whole lot. Probably more than I can ever pay back. And fuck me, I trust her with my life. ...With Kong's, too, if it came to that. "
>>
>>41344170

Another sigh leaves her lips, before she turns back towards you. "Look, I get...not wanting to get any deeper in this cult shit, but as far as I can guess she seems like a way better choice for actually getting something done than either of those other faggots."

Wendy shrugs. "Anyway, like I said, it'd be easy to set a meeting with her. And it's just a meeting, for fuck's sake. You don't like it? Just say no, and then leave. Simple as that. We go back to the drawing board."

It seems that Wendy really trusts this Annie May person.

How do you react?

[]Tell Wendy to set the meeting up, but tell Annie that you'll be there to ask questions only. You're not sure if you'll be taking her up for her services just yet.

Involving an equerry of the 8th here is calling for disaster. The situation is enough complicated already. Pinky is ok with Chiaki transformation because she thinks it will create a massacre. And let's not forget that is possible that involving the cult will make Malal's vision a reality

>Blessed Lady isn't Pinky.
Annie May worships Pinky, the Church of the Golden Land worships Faust, which is considered heeresy, and performs live sacrifices of kidnapped Magical Girls.
And Pinky likes what's happening to Chiaki, and only helped us question Manuke because it's no fun if Chiaki doesn't survive, but that's all the help she'll give.

Doesn't Wendy want to get out of the Cult?
I thought she was only staying in it because of Annie May, and really she wants out of the Church.
Why is she then doing something that will get her stuck in deeper?
Or is this another one of her stupid decisions because she gets all dumb where Chiaki is involved and there isn't an obvious solution.
>>

Grabbed the Golden Mask and nearly killed Nicole Touchdown, burned her bridges at the Eighth and got a kill order put out on her, ended up in the Cult and took part in their sacrifices, went off on her own and had to be bailed out by Kyouko who lost her body because of it.

Sure, Kyouko got better, but it was still stupid at the time and could have resulted in Kyouko's permadeath.
>>
>>41344679
What is this non-canon bullshit?
>>
>>41344679
Nothing listed here except "nearly killed kyouko" even remotely compares to "give soul gem".

And kyouko nearly dying is partly our fault, on top of the fact that iirc everyone got split up upon entry.

Get your shit together, anon.
>>
>>41344679
Aren't most of these things non-canon? It would be extremely foolish of Decu to apply previous circumstances which at least 90% of the MGNQ readers don't know about to the consequences of our choices in the main line.
>>
>>41344744
Doesn't really matter. MGNQ is a broad world and Wendy is just another character in it. One we don't control at all at the moment. So whether her decisions are good or bad depends entirely on Decu and her overall established character.

Trusting Wendy, or not, is no different than trusting any other character in the quest based on what we, or the.character we're playing with, knows.
>>
>>41344702
>>41344744
In the MGNQ wiki, the write-ups of Wendy are canon. Also, Decu himself dedicated two weeks to decide wich write-ups are and aren´t canon. So, what >>41344679 is saying is canon
>>
>>41344839
It isn't part of the main quest, therefore fuck no it isn't.

>>
>>41344839

>>
>>41344852

>>
>>41344714
>everyone got split up upon entry.
Yeah, but Wendy decided to go after the Red Culexus instead of regrouping with everyone else.

>...Wendy. Christ, that's why she's missing! She went off to look for the fucking Red Culexus!
>>
>>41344920
It doesn't fucking matter what is canon and what isn't. I simply take as a measure of what we are supposed to know and will be expected to deal with. We haven't dealt with any of the Cooldown sidestories yet, at least not directly, and I don't think we will in the future.
>>
>>41344889
The author himself said that they're canon. What you want to believe is just your own non-canon bullshit.
>>
>>41344947
So the main quest is now non-canon?
Great.
>>
>>41344946
To a point, you're correct. The stories are only relevant if you want to meta. Aside from that, you can ignore them at your leisure.
>>
>>41344957
The main quest AND the write-ups are ALL canon!! For fucks sake, anon, just look at the facts. Why don't you read the canon side stories instead of being a jerk here?
>>
>>41344969
We aren't metagaming with Midori decisions here.
>>
>>41344987
I read them you titwad. Their events are still yet to be referenced by the main quest, so they might as well not exist.
>>
>>41344987
To be fair, you don't NEED to read any of them. While they do impact the quest, they do so only when whoever we're playing runs into those people, or the consequences of those events. They have no real impact on our decisions.
>>
>>41344793
>trusting Wendy, or not, is no different than trusting any other character in the quest based on what we, or the.character we're playing with, knows.

There is absolutely a major difference between making a choice based on what our currect PC knows and what Anons can/should know. Meta-gaming changes everything.

Consider the following hypothetical: In one of the canon write-ups, like those of Wendy, she might meet a character who is shown to be about as reliable as a personified coin toss. But if you follow only the main quest, the only thing you hear is that this person is for example "slightly energetic", if you even hear anything about them in the main quest at all.

If we, as anons, have to make a choice in the MAIN QUEST, based on information in a write-up which ALMOST NOBODY HAS READ REGARDLESS OF CANON STATUS then how is it in any way fair if this comes back to bite us in the ass later? "Oops, should've read that write-up you might not even have known about". It doesn't matter that Decu has said "Those stories are canon" because few MGNQ readers have even glanced at ANY of the write-ups.

Nearly all of those fuck-ups did not happen in the main quest threads, therefor most of the readers haven't seen them, therefor the impact this knowledge has on present and future choices should be minimal.

>>41344920
>>41344987
Imagine the lore books were only available in a deeserted brick-and-mortar store in the middle of Alabama, and players would be severely punished for making a wrong decision because they did not have that information for any reason.

Have you ever heard of any game of any kind punishing players for not getting material that's relatively out of their way?
>>
>>41345028
True. But, what we are discussing with the retarded anon here is that the write-ups are canon, and not "non-canon bullshit" as he has stated. As much as they are non relevant in the main quest, they still affect the story, and what started all this is the post calling them non-canon
>>
Holy shit guys, we just agreed to talk to her. We can always refuse her help if it seems sketchy.

What could go wrong.
>>
>>41345039
This is not a perfect information game. Just because we don't know much about an NPC, in-character, doesn't mean that making the wrong choice with them shouldn't fuck us over.

And your analogy is shit when the write-ups are not only easily available on the wiki, but also at the end of the thread and Decu encourages people to read them.
>>
>>41345039
>Have you ever heard of any game of any kind punishing players for not getting material that's relatively out of their way?

People are lazy motherfuckers. Most come here for the main quest, nothing more. Ever noticed how many don't even read up on the main quest threads they missed? I'll gladly concede if we could somehow figure out how many readers there are and how many have read the write-ups.

Until then, you can go with the assumptions that have proven correct time and time again: people are dumb and lazy.

She trusts Annie-May, and quite frankly in Wendy's position it would be the most reasonable thing to push forward. Plus, as a cultist, she's probably used to people instinctively assuming they're batshit crazy. Like Jehovah Witnesses.

Nghh. As loathe as you are to ask someone from the outside from help, it...well, it actually does sound like a decent option, and one worth exploring. Sure, Wendy's character reference for this Annie May Springfield isn't the best, and being the High Priestess of a Pinky-worshipping cult doesn't help, but it does seem like she really does trust her, to the point that she's actually defending their reputation.

And from your limited experience with the blunt, no-nonsense Callidus, she doesn't seem the type to praise anyone freely, nor readily consider herself indebted to anyone. So that's probably a really good thing, as far as this Annie person's credibility is concerned.

...Hell, it's actually looking to be a bit less risky than what you've been originally planning, you think, biting idly into your thumbnail as you consider it. Having an outsider attend to your sempai - provided you can ensure that she wouldn't blab about Chiaki's state to anyone else - definitely seems a lot less hairier than breaking into a secured vault, stealing a Golden Weapon from said vault, and then breaking into a heavily-guarded Silent Room.

At least the worst that can happen here is that you'd get refused by Kyuubey when you pitch it to him - while in the other option, you'd be getting off lightly if you were only excommunicated or thrown into a Silent Room forever.

Not that that option's off the table already, of course. If you don't like what this Annie person has to say or if anything feels off about her, you're not even going to bother. You're not going to let anyone else get their hands - or their designs - on your sempai. Not when she's this vulnerable.

"...Fine." You say at last, looking directly at Wendy. "You're right. It's not going to be thorough if I ignore an option like this." You pause here before nodding. "Please set up a meeting with Miss...um, Springfield, was it?...at the soonest possible time."

Wendy nods, pulling out her smartphone, in a rather smooth gesture disturbingly reminiscient of someone drawing a knife from a sheathe hidden in an inside pocket. "Sure, I can do that--"

"But I want to make it clear here, I'm not asking for her help just yet." You quickly add, cutting the American Callidus off. Wendy's impassive face briefly twisting into a scowl. "I want to ask her some questions first, to see if she can actually help Chiaki or not, or if she knows anything we don't know about Chiaki's situation. If I think she's on the level, then I'll ask her for help right then. If not--"

"...Then we both walk out of there and do what we originally planned on doing. I got it." Wendy grumbles as she quickly keys in a message into her phone. A small beeping noise signifying that the message itself had been successfully sent. "Fuck's sake, Green, you're getting just as twitchy as Kong is about shit sometimes. You ever think about cutting down on the coffee?"

It's your sempai's life on the line here, you explain to her after a moment, flashing her frown back at her. Of course you're going to be "twitchy". Why wouldn't you be? And no, you don't really drink coffee all that much. You have enough keeping you up at night as it is.

"..." Wendy stares at you for a few sullenly-silent seconds before shaking her head. "...Nevermind. Sent the message, and I already got the notification that she's reading it. We should be getting a reply in a little while, and--" The Callidus blinks as a jarringly-loud OP of a particular after-dark OVA blares from her phone's speakers.

> /A new position every night/ Our love can't possibly be described as generic~!/

It goes on for a few bars before it's quickly extinguished with a few quick button presses from a rapidly-reddening Wendy. "...Sorry. Forgot to set the fucking thing on Silent. Usually use this thing as an alarm clock, so..."

You understand, you quickly say, turning to the other occupants of the restaurant and smiling apologetically at them. Just that...well...

"...Well, what?" Wendy asks, suddenly on edge. "Stop trailing off before you finish your sentences, Jesus Christ. What the fuck is it, Green?"

You shake your head again, smiling fully as you turn towards her. ...Just that you weren't expecting Wendy to be a Miracle Midori x Murder Mayumi fan, that's all, you explain to her, feeling a sort of strange, weird pride swell in your chest.

"...That's..." Your sempai's ex reddens even further, before shaking her head. "...Shut up, alright? I just like it for the story, that's it. Rest of it I just skip over. I'm...I'm not a fucking pervert."

Right. That's what they all say, you reply, or at least think about replying. There's really no need to bait Wendy into losing her temper, you're trying to help your sempai, after all. Still, the idea that your girlfriend's ex is watching your stuff, welll...you can't help but get tickled over that.

But anyway, that's for another time. Did she get a reply, or what?

"...Yeah, matter of fact I did." Wendy says after a moment, seemingly grateful that you're not pushing the issue. "...She says we can meet her at one of our safehouses near here in...half an hour or so." At your raised eyebrow at the word 'safehouse', the Callidus clears her throat before explaining.

"...We have a few around Mitakihara that we've been going back and forth from ever since the Prophet thing went ass-upwards. You know, just in case they tried to hit us again, or go for the High Priestess directly." She stares at her smartphone's screen again, and this time you see her brow furrow in slight confusion.

"...Huh. I haven't really been to this safehouse before, but it's pretty nearby. Near that bar Kong likes to drink at, anyway - practically across the road, just next to Hanegawa's."

I suppose Mumi and Kharn don't count because they were responsible for the canonisation?
>>
>>41346003

What? That's...it's THAT close? Your parents have been living next door to a Pinky cultist safe house?!

Wendy winces at that. "...You know, I'm all for calling a duck a duck, but try not to call it a cult when we're there, alright? She's really sensitive about that kind of shit. And I'm not saying that because she's going to go crazy and kill you for it or something, but it's just good manners. Alright?"

Al...alright, you say, still a bit stunned at this revelation. ...How long have they had it as a safehouse?

"Dunno. Probably not that long, if I didn't even know about it. Maybe last week, or whatever." The Callidus shakes her head. "I did hear about Annie approaching a shopowner and asking if she could work there part-time along with a few girls. Probably said yes, and then got convinced into renting out a couple of their rooms for us. Works in our favor and theirs - we get a safehouse, they get our money and Magical Girl protection."

Ah. That makes sense, at least.

"We can go whenever you want, then." Wendy nods as she puts her smartphone back and picks up her burger once more. "Or if you wanna go back to Headquarters first or something, that's fine. Annie isn't a stickler for punctuality much, but she bitches us out if we're late for sermons."

What do you do?

You'll go to the meeting, sure, but only after a quick detour back to headquarters first. You want to pick something up to bring along, as well as freshen up a bit. After all, it's not everyday you get to meet a spiritual leader of sorts, right? Even if they are the High Priestess of a cult.

"Religious sect. Not cult." Wendy replies dourly after polishing off her burger. "...Alright, let's meet you outside the main lobby in thirty minutes, then. I'll call ahead and say we're going to run a bit late, but it's probably not going to matter much. She's probably grabbin' lunch at the moment too, and she takes a while to eat."

That's just fine. You don't plan on taking too long getting ready anyway.

Just as you get up to leave - with half of your lunch uneaten on your plate - it's here that Wendy calls your name, making you stop in your tracks.

"Green?"

Yes? What is it?

There's a very slight and telling pause here as you turn to face the American Callidus. Something unreadable in her eyes as she looks you over. When she finally replies, "...Bring something to protect yourself with, alright?"

Protect yourself? Well, you were already planning on doing so, but...why? Is she expecting trouble during this meeting?

Your sempai's brown-haired ex shakes her head. "...No. But it's generally a good idea. More than ever now, right?" She taps her thigh, and you hear the clink of something metallic there. "Something subtle, something you can conceal easily. Doesn't even have to be a knife or a gun, just a tool you can use to get yourself out of trouble quickly."

You'll...keep it in mind, then. You thank Wendy, before leaving the restaurant as quickly as you can. Making your way towards the Ninth Officio Headquarters, your lips set in a determined line.

Hold on, sempai. Help is on the way.

"...Alright. Just...alright." Wendy throws up her hands in exasperation. Thirty minutes had elapsed since you saw each other last, with you freshly showered and freshened up. "I know I fucking told you to get something to protect yourself, Green. I remember that. Alright?"

Right. Of course. That was before you left the family restaurant. You remember it as clear as day.

"Alright." Wendy repeats. "And I told you that whatever it is, it didn't have to be a knife or a gun. Because there's lots of other stuff out there you can protect yourself with. Like...something to crack someone's skull with. A stick. One of those collapsing truncheons, those are always fun." She gestures behind you. "I didn't fucking mean bring an entire walking weapons platform, holy SHIT."

She is, of course, referring Tiny Pete. The nine-foot tall behemoth looming over the both of you in all his freshly-repainted, just-repaired glory. The bristling gunbarrels that had infested his form during the Prophet operation removed, his original armament restored: a large, double-barreled box with a pistol grip mag-locked to his thigh, and a thunder hammer slung onto his back. His tusked helm glaring down and facing forward with blazing eyeslits of hellish red, with the skulls rattling on the rack planted on his back.

[REPORTING FOR ARMED ESCORT DUTY] The giant intones, its voice a deep gravelly rockslide digitized through a harsh amplified speaker. [AWAITING ORDERS]

Tiny Pete isn't a weapons platform, you protest. He's...well, he's a friend of your sempai! And he's also a part of the Officio, same as you or Wendy! It's not his fault he's a nine-foot, two-ton wall of walking metal and hate!

"...Look, I..." Wendy begins, trying to tear her eyes away from Tiny Pete, and managing only to succeed at the third try. "...I get it. I get it, alright? You still think that the Church is a bunch of crazy cultists. Alright. I get that. But even if we really were that fucked up - and we're not - do you think we're going to fucking start something here? Just next door to the goddamn Ninth, who helped us with the Prophet?" The Callidus looks about ready to tear her hair out, here. "This is just going to be a meeting, it doesn't fucking warrant bringing this thing over--"

It does, you tell her. And he's coming along. That's final.

Yes, you don't really think the Church is going to start something in their safehouse, sure. Not when it's all but spitting distance between it and the actual Officio whose jurisdiction they're in.

But if you've learned anything from your sempai, it's that you need to stop meeting other people on their terms. You need to restore the balance somehow, make them as uneasy as you felt. This way, no one's truly vulnerable, because everyone is. And what better way to do that than with a two-ton monstrosity of armor, spikes and skulls? One that's obedient to you and only you, thanks to a russian kid who seems to at least not hate you so much anymore?

...Misaka nearly didn't let you borrow Tiny Pete, however. In fact, she asked you quite a lot of questions, when you asked if she could lend you the armored giant for a few hours. After five or so minutes of her calling you every variation of 'broccolihead' that she knew, she finally relented, saying that she needed a stress test for Tiny Pete's new knee servos, and this was convenient. But of course, you still had to answer what you needed him for.

Your response? That it was for an inter-officio reunion. Tiny Pete's presence was for 'in case things something goes wrong'. ...Technically the truth, and not an out and out lie.

She seemed alright with that, and let you leave with her giant robot buddy. But before you could do so - with Tiny Pete stomping across the floor after you - she asks you the question that you hoped wouldn't come up. Even though you knew it was going to.

"Is Big Sister Murderface going to visit Misaka soon?" The brown-haired Russian genius had looked up at you with clear and frank expectation in her eyes. "Misaka is missing Big Sister Murderface greatly, says Misaka in a lonely yet hopeful voice!"

How did you respond to Misaka?

[]Reassure her. "Very soon. She's just busy with very important work at the moment."
[]Be honest with her, as much as you can right now. "Big Sister Murderface is a bit tired so she's resting up for a while, but as soon as she's better, the first thing she'll do is visit Misaka-chan, alright?"

Misaka's a big girl, and not a normal kid. Codling her will not end well, and Midori has already seen the kind of behavior she prefers from Chiaki.

Because of Midori's given explanation that this is to meet with the Cult and keep them uncomfortable.

The option outright said to bring Tiny Pete along, not his teleport beacon. You assumed something that the option explicitly stated wasn't the case.
>>
>>41348413
The problem is the way Midori's powers work, on expectations and whatnot. Unless the culties are expecting an escort of that type for whatever reason, it won't really work. Who'd use mundanes as an escort for an MG anyway?

Then again, Wendy could probably offer some pointers on what to use to trick the Cult.
>>
>>41348449
We're not necessarily tricking the cult. We're tricking the normal folks.
>>
>>41348476
This. We already failed to trick the cult by letting Wendy, a cultist, see.
>>
>>41348476

>>
>>41348449
It was stated that Midori powers affect the five senses. She is very capable to make you think that Tiny Pete is a big american guy. What you are suggesting is for when Midori has to disguise as an specific target, and casually there are one or various people who know the target personally, so Midori uses their expectations of the target to make herself the target and to make the people who don´t know the target believe thst Midori is the target. In this case, no one has any expectation about the big american, so it should be even more easy

You decide to be as honest as you can, under the current circumstances, here. While Misaka is technically still a kid - you've been on the receiving end of her tantrums when she didn't get her way - she is also quite horrifyingly smart for age, not just in putting guns and war machines together but also in figuring things out. In reading between the lines. She'd definitely be able to tell if you were lying to her outright, especially when it's about her surrogate big sister.

"Big Sister Murderface is a bit tired from her last operation, so she's resting up for a while." You tell the brown-haired girl looking up at you expectantly. "She's not quite healed yet, but the moment we can I'm dragging her to visit you." You pause here for a second before nodding.

"Even if she forgets, I won't."

Misaka goes silent for a while, her smile falling - the kid is clearly crestfallen, there's no mystery there, but at the same time you can tell she's trying her best to keep strong. "O-okay. Misaka won't cry, and will patiently wait for Big Sister Murderface to visit, Misaka says, despite really wanting to run away to quarters and cry while hugging Big Pete." She runs a slightly grimy sleeve across her eyes, sniffing loudly, before pulling something out from her lab coat pocket and holding it up to you.

It's the Teleportation Beacon you wore back at Siberia. Back when you threw yourself into the hell behind reality, to get your sempai back. ...Look, it's even got that mark when the Armored Fragment's claws nearly slashed it from your wrist that one time. A press of its screen, and Tiny Pete - wherever he is - would be warped directly to where you were. Ready to kill anything in his path. Ready to destroyo anything you pointed at.

Pretty ironic that it'd find its way back to you, and now of all times, you muse.

[1/2]
>>
>>41348957

"Here, in case...in case Broccolihead needs Tiny Pete in emergency, get in places where he cannot go." Misaka sniffs. "Broccolihead is remembering how to operate, yes, Misaka asks wondering if Broccolihead forgot?"

...You remember, yes. You smile down at her and thank her. ...You'd hug her, but you have the suspicion you'd be rebuked for instead. It's not like you were popular with the kids anyhow, anyway.

And so with the bulky beacon once more wrapped around your wrist like a bulky wristwatch, you met up with Wendy outside the main lobby, with the Callidus quite nearly having a stroke at the appearance of the terminator. You're not going to say making Wendy panic was part of your plan, but who could really resist?

"Green, please. Just...tell me you're fucking joking. You can't bring this thing to the meeting, you can't. It's just..." Wendy spreads her arms wide, puffing out her cheeks. "I mean, FUCK."

It seems that Wendy's really being finicky with Tiny Pete. Shame, you were looking forward to seeing the faces of whoever's managing that shop to see a nine-foot tall armored giant walk up to their display.

[]Proceed as you planned. Tiny Pete tags along in full view.

Obviously the disguise is only for the trip there so that we're not revealing him in public. What was his exact height again anyway? Because he might be tall enough to break the ceiling in that kind of place too.
