Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you divvied up a reward with your adoptive son, caught up with a friend, and got dragged to an ice cream parlor.

It is currently the 15th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

Nisha is staring up at you with melted bastani all over her mouth and an expectant look on her face. As much as you'd like to entertain her, there really are a few questions you must ask her father. Thus to keep her content you channel vys, two little illusory figures weaving themselves from thin air. Perched upon her step-mother's empty glass bowl is a dragon about the size of a kitten, a visage great and terrible in a compact package. Its tail lashes violently through the air behind it as it shoots a tiny little jet of flame from its mouth.

The other is a man roughly the size of your thumb, wearing Warlock armor and wielding a spear and shield. Golden beads dangle from his armor and lightning dances across the point of his spear. The two illusory figures stare one another down from across the table before the dragon leaps forward, its wings snapping out to carry it through the air towards the soldier in miniature. The battle which plays out between them is glorious indeed, with fire and lightning shooting across the table in every direction.

Nisha is absolutely captivated, she can barely pull her eyes away from the display for a moment. Even her step-mother Zahia, a woman you'd generously describe as harsh from what you've seen of her so far, watches the display with veiled interest. The distraction affords you the opportunity to discuss matters with Emir Yasin but as you lean forward to pose a question your bastani arrives, saffron flavored ice cream pressed between two crackers made of sweet fried bread.

You bite into the sweet treat, the flavors mingling pleasantly on your tongue and the frozen cream serving as a welcome relief from the heat of the Pidjatan sun. After you've taken the time to properly savor your treat, you lean forward and address the Emir in low tones. “Regarding the Vidyarthi, how goes the investigation? Have you made any progress?”

The Emir's expression sours, and he whispers to you conspiratorially. “Not as well as I'd hoped, Mikhael. They elude us at every turn. I have needed to remove three of my trusted agents from my service after they were discovered attempting to steal text from the Grand Library. They rot in prison, under the tender ministrations of my interrogators. Unfortunately torture has delivered seldom little in the way of results.”

The Emir leans back in his chair, sighing heavily. “Universally they claim they would rather die than betray their 'family'. I've had Nature Vatis investigate their thoughts and they claim that their minds are covered in a thick, cloying haze. As though obscured or perhaps influenced by some unnatural force. I fear the Vidyarthi may hold in their possession an artifact of great power, which they're using to indoctrinate their followers.”

The Emir presses his hand to his heart, bowing his head apologetically. “But this is no concern of yours, Mikhael. Let me assure you, the forces of the Shah will not be resisted by a handful of rogue Vatis. Let us speak of something lighter, yes?”

You smile, leaning back into your own chair and folding one leg over the other. “Yes, let's.” You turn your attention to Zahia. “You mentioned you'd journeyed extensively through Elaudia, have you any wisdom to share with a man about to undertake his first expedition?”

(2/3 or 4)
>>
The scarred woman folds her arms in front of her rather meager bust. “I could offer some advice. First and foremost, trust nothing and no one. Question all that you see and question it constantly. The jungle deceives those who travel within. It seeks to make them lose themselves within its endless depths. It is alive, and anyone who tells you otherwise is a fool. Once, on my first expedition, we encountered a plant the size of a small house. It towered over us, flowers blooming all across its surface and pollen filling the air around it with a yellowish haze.”

She pauses, holding up a solitary finger. “One man went into the cloud of pollen. It clung to him, seeped into his clothes. We told him it was dangerous, but he wanted a clipping of the plant. When he came back he seemed fine, but as we started our return journey he started to act strange. His skin grew waxy and the whites of his eyes turned a deep shade of yellow. He became obsessed with touching, touching anything and everything. Then one night I awoke to screaming, and found him ripping out the throat of our healer.”

She sighs, shaking her head. “I was the only one to return. We tried to kill him, we cut and stabbed and burnt the man who had been our friend until he was little more than a smear of color on the ground. Unfortunately whatever madness consumed him had spread through his blood, and soon the others started to go mad as well. It was only thanks to my understanding of Nature magic that I was able to escape and hold off the pollen's effects until I could find civilization.”

Zahia leans forward, bracing her elbows against the table. “That is my advice to you. Trust nothing. Trust no one. The only thing that will keep you alive in Elaudia is your own rampant paranoia and skill.”

With a wry grin the Emir comments. “I'd thought we'd agree on lighter subjects, had we not? This is far from what I had in mind.”

Zahia shrugs her shoulders. “He asked me for advice, I gave him advice.”

You decide it would be best to change the subject, preferably to something safe. Thus you conclude your little magical display with the brave warrior pulling the dragon into a headlock, wrestling him to the ground and ultimately sending the beast away crying with a firm kick to its backside. Nisha seems to find this incredibly funny, judging by her incessant giggling.

You draw her attention by affectionately messing her hair, causing her to swat at your hand and puff out her cheeks in childish frustration. Her anger is quickly forgotten when you pose a question. “How have you been since we lest met, Nisha? I trust you've been well.”

She cocks her head to one side, placing a finger contemplatively against her chin. “Umm... I've been well, I got to sail on my daddy's boat a few days ago. That was really cool! We got to see a fish jump out of the water, it had these fins that were sorta like wings so I called it a bird fish! My dad said it's called a blacksail but I think that sounds stupid! Oh, and I'm getting engaged soon! My dad sad it's almost time to find a boy for me to marry but I haven't met anyone yet. I'm really excited!”

She continues like this for quite some time, going on and on about the mundanities of being a young girl from a noble family. She talks about what she's learning from her tutors, about her enthusiasm for the game hounds and jackals, which is a sort of simple board game about plugging holes in a board with either hound or jackal headed pegs, where the goal is to get all of one's pieces into the circle at the end of the board. It's popular amongst children and bored housewives.

Eventually you finish your bastani and you can tell that the Emir and his wife are growing restless. It would probably be best to excuse yourself and continue on to meet your Master.

You use a napkin to wipe bastani syrup and crumbs from around your mouth and briefly wash your hands in a bowl of chilled rose water the waitress laid out in the center of the table. “Well, this has been wonderful but I really should be going. I was on my way to visit my former Master and if I delay any longer I may miss him.”

The Emir reaches a hand across the table. “It's been a pleasure dining with you, Mikhael. Until next time.”

You clasp him by the forearm, shaking once. “Indeed, Emir. However, before I go may I put forward a potential suitor for your daughter?”

The Emir raises an eyebrow, his expression a mix of hesitation and curiosity. “Who did you have in mind? I was planning on introducing her to a few of the Shah's nephews but I suppose I'm open to suggestions.”

You release your grip on the Emir, standing and straightening your robes. “My younger brother Chetan, he's in training to become a priest at the Temple of Pani here in El-Amin.” You turn your attention from the Emir to Nisha. “He's not much older than you, only eleven, and a very kindhearted young man. I'm sure the two of you would get along quite well.”

Nisha seems excited by the prospect, though you're sure she's simply excited by the prospect of meeting potential suitors and not necessarily excited to meet your younger brother specifically. “Does he know magic like you? I hope he does.” She looks to her father, expression serious. “Can I marry Mik? He's really nice, Papa. Plus he can do magic! That's good, right? He'd be a great husband!”

(1/2)
>>
The Emir simply smiles affectionately to his youngest daughter and reaches across the table to take her hand in his. “Sadly, darling, Vatis can't get married. It's a law older than the Shahdom itself. You'll have to settle for someone slightly more mundane, and more likely to live past his hundredth year.” He turns to you. “I'll take you suggestion under consideration, Mikhael. Considering your family's recent rise to prominence and the projects you're undertaking with the Shah, I've no doubt an alliance between our families would prove mutually beneficial.”

You bow, touching your fingers to your chest and forehead as a show of respect before finally excusing yourself. Vaisala is right were you left her, hungrily eyeing the wait staff but resisting the temptation to eat them. She nudges her head into your chest as you get close, nuzzling you briefly. As a reward for her good behavior you dig a long strip of jerky out of your cloak and offer it to her, nearly losing your fingers when her head shoots forward to snatch the treat from your hand.

Vaisala swallows the strip of jerky whole, and you climb swiftly onto her back. She doesn't have reigns, so you don't need to worry about untying her from the fence. Instead you dig your heels gently into her flanks and she sets off at an easy pace, navigating through the light noontime traffic with ease. At this time of day most people try to avoid being outside, the heat is oppressive to put it mildly. Fortunately for you, you're a Grandmaster Water Vatis. The heat isn't really an issue.

The trip through the city is a short one and before long you find yourself kicking your heels into Vaisala's flanks to bring her to a stop in front of your Master's stately home. You can faintly here him shouting obscenities even from outside his door, though you can't tell who his ire is directed towards. Rasim would be the most obvious candidate but you can't be certain.

You stand to one side of the door and grab the handle, pushing it carefully open. Nothing happens, so you peek inside. The barrel of that contraption your Master built stares you in the face but doesn't fire, so you presume his little steam canon isn't powered at the moment. You step inside cautiously and ascend a flight of stairs from the foyer to the baths. Steam fills the room, and you note an abandoned set of clothes in a strange style sitting near-by. They look to be a woman's clothes, though you can't really be certain. Oddly enough you don't see their owner anywhere.

Your master's voice is more distinct now that you don't have a thick wooden door separating the two of you. You can even make out what he's saying. “-so reckless! You could find yourself banished, or killed, or worse! I forbid you to see her again, do you hear me? I forbid you! She has been nothing but a bad influence!”

You haven't heard your Master this angry since that time you tried to run away with Ismail and join the army on campaign. Admittedly a foolish notion concocted in the mind of a fourteen year old hungry for recognition, among other things. You were barely an apprentice at a time, capable of little more than parlor tricks. You would've been useless at best on the field of battle. You wonder what Rasim did to earn your Master's ire?

You climb the stairs into your Master's sitting room, finding your Master standing over a seated Rasim and a young elf girl probably about the same age as Rasim, or perhaps a few years older. She wears little save a strip of cloth around her nonexistent breast and a loincloth of sorts. Her ears are exceptionally long, rare for an elf these days, and her skin so pale you can practically see through it. How anyone could find that attractive is beyond you.

Rasim looks properly shamed, his eyes focused on the tile in front of him. The elf girl barely seems aware of what's happening, her attention focused on a window and her expression serene. Master Karim whips his head around to look at you when you enter the room, snapping his fingers to get your attention. “Mikhael, come here and tell this idiot boy what he risk by so blatantly fraternizing with the lesser races! He brought her into my home, in broad daylight! A diplomat's daughter! The scandal he could have caused had I not arrived when I did!”

Your master swings his cane, cracking Rasim in the arm with the length of wood. Rasim cries out in pain, grabbing hold of his arm where your Master struck him. However, he says nothing as your Master stalks off towards the kitchen, leaving you alone with the two of them whilst grumbling all the while about Rasim's apparent lack of discretion. Honestly he doesn't seem so much mad that Rasim was trying to screw an elf, as mad that he wasn't more careful about not being seen.

>>

Indeed he would, in some circles at least. Generally speaking most tribes don't value purity of the bloodline but the -most powerful- tribes do to varying degrees.

>>41327487
Nah, >>41327437 is right. Because of his stone arm he wouldn't be considered attractive nor desirable, but in theory at least he'd be considered noble or high class.

Prof doesn't seem to pray to his gods any longer, at least not that you've seen. If he does he doesn't do it often.
>>
>>41327487
You are retarded and a newfag.
Soma has confirmed he would be killed or castrated in some tribes because his stone arm makes him a mutant in their eyes.
And elves are not immortal, just long lived, this was explicitly stated by Mahana, and their longevity is not activated by praying to their gods, but by a specific ritual/process, the specifics of which we don't know, only that it is deeply engraved in their culture/society since some elf long ago figured it out.
>>
>>41327504
When the cat was telling us how the races started.
He told us the elves were made by the dragons and when the dragons went away, they incorporated the rituals to keep them immortal like samnji( the dragons used to do it for them) into their prayers.
>>
>>41327548
Stop spreading misinformation faggot, elves are not immortal.
>>
>>41327537
>You are retarded and a newfag.
ah welcome back boogyman anon i missed arguing with you.
>>
>>41327487
>>41327504
>“Long after Samjan had already been granted the boon of limited immortality, an Elf discovered the secrets to maintaining their race just as the Dragons once maintained their servants. The knowledge was propagated, and the ritual eventually became a part of Elven traditions, and thus the myth was perpetuated that Elves were immortal. While long lived, if they manage to avoid getting killed violently and if they keep themselves maintained, Elves are by no means immortal in any sense of the word.”

Note that it doesn't necessarily mean praying to the Elven Gods is the secret to their "immortality", just some ritual.
>>
>>41327594
I missed you too, retarded newfag
>>
>>41327621
My mistake there. I assumed since religion is pretty wide spread and common that the ritual would somehow be part of an elven prayer.

Considering that Samja have over a whole foot on human height and brown to blue to grey to black skin, a half human half samja would be very obviously a halfie.
But she didn't get pregnant, Soma has stated this, there are several contraceptives, and potions to abort pregnancies, she's not retarded, she'd get thrown on the streets or killed for giving birth to a brown kid while married to a human husband.

What are you really supposed to do in this situation? You wouldn't exactly call your banishment a horribly experience, trying though it's been. Still, you can't exactly encourage Rasim to get himself banished. Nor can you, in good conscience, suggest he carry on this relationship with a degenerate elf.

You sigh wearily before approaching the two of them, crouching down in front of Rasim and putting a hand on his shoulder. “I must side with my Master on this, Rasim. It was rather foolish to bring the woman here in broad daylight. An elf draws attention in almost every part of Pidjata, and not the good sort of attention.” You spare her a glance, but she's still staring off into space. “By the way, is there something wrong with her?”

Rasim coughs uncomfortably. “She... um, wanted to try opium. So we smoked some, and she's been like this ever since. I guess I packed too much in the bowl.”

It was probably that opium you gifted your Master a while back, as recompense for the distraction Zahak caused. You're not surprised she's so unbelievably stoned, that was really good dope. It even knocked Karim flat, and he's been smoking for hundreds of years. If it can beat his tolerance you can only imagine what it's like for a first timer.

You simply shake your head. “Honestly, there are plenty of whore houses you could've visited, even a street walker would've been better than an elf. At the very least you could have met in some secluded hide away rather than dragging her through the Vatis district for all to see. What were you thinking? Where did you even meet her?”

(1/3)
>>
>>41328061
We can get married in Anthus and in our future empire
>>
>>41328101
If it's not official we can't pick up anybody noble like loli here
>>
Rasim fidgets, like he's trying to make himself smaller. “Master assigned me to help water the gardens in the palace and while I was working I saw her with her father. While he was busy with the Shah she came over and started talking to me. I tried to ignore her, but she was really insistent, and she seemed nice. Then she grabbed me by the arm and dragged me into the palace. We got lost, and snuck out of the palace, and then it just sort of escalated from there.”

You glance from Rasim, to the girl, and back again. “You do realize her father probably thinks she was kidnapped, right? You could have just caused an international incident. Why is she still here? Shouldn't you go... I don't know, return her or something?”

Rasim shakes his head. “Master wants to wait until she comes down, otherwise he thinks we'll just cause even more trouble.”

You wonder who her father is. There aren't many foreigners important enough for their representatives to earn a direct meeting with the Shah. Usually he would interact with foreign dignitaries via various proxies of his own. Perhaps an emissary from the Elven Warlord, seeking to legitimize his rule by sending out emissaries to other neighboring powers?

You squeeze Rasim's shoulder affectionately. “Listen, Rasim. You live in El-Amin, the greatest city in the world and the very heart of the Shahdom. You're a Samja, blessed by the gods themselves with a long life and magical power. Not to mention, you're an apprentice Vatis. Let me stress that, an apprentice. If you were to be banished you would be eaten alive by the outside world. The only reason I managed to survive is because I've completed my training.”

(2/3)
>>
You let go of Rasim, rising to your feet. “So don't take unnecessary risk, at least not yet and preferably never. I may have survived and even thrived, but I share my head with the ancient remnants of a failed experiment and at times have clung to sanity by the barest of threads. I have nearly died a dozen times over and survive today only through my own talents and the aid of my companions. It's not a life I'd recommend for the faint of heart.”

Rasim doesn't say anything, just staring at the ground in front of him looking utterly shamed. It's then that Karim returns from the kitchen, his pipe held in his mouth and blue smoke curling slowly from the bowl. He cracks Rasim in the back with his staff and points towards the stairs. “Go get her clothes, get her dressed. We'll be taking her back to the palace soon.”

Rasim runs off, eager to obey and escape the reach of your Master's staff. Once he's out of the room, Karim turns to you. “Fool boy, honestly. How he even managed to get her attention I'll never know.” He glances towards the elf girl, who's currently sprawled out on a handful of cushions. Seems like she might have fallen asleep. “A diplomat's daughter! I tell you, I'll not hear the end of this. I'll be a thousand years old and Padma will still be mocking me for this entire incident.”

He shakes his head, sighing. “Anyway, why did you decide to visit? Not that I mind, you're always welcome here. I simply wish the circumstances could have been better.”

You run through a veritable laundry list of things you wish to discuss with your old Master. Rasim's soul, the defense of the city, that 'social club' he's part of, your journey to Elaudia, and any number of other topics. However, considering the circumstances you're not sure it would be proper to hang around too long, especially considering he'll be departing soon to take this elf girl back to the palace. Thus, you'll need to speak quickly. “I was mainly interested in discussing Rasim's soul, did you ever figure out why it was green?”

Karim nods. “I did, or at least I have my theories. He claims that he has no idea why his soul would be green but as you know, Rasim is clanless. He was living in the Eastern Slums when it was found that he had immense magical potential. Thus, he never knew his parents. In light of what you've told me regarding spirits and disciples it's my belief that, as a babe, his parents formed some sort of pact with a spirit which he was included in. I wouldn't be able to tell you with which spirit his parents could have formed a pact, so far as I'm aware no spirit actually controls El-Amin or any of the surrounding area, but it's my best guess as to why his soul is abnormal and why he's proved such a powerful vatis.”

You suppose that is indeed a possibility, though it leaves you with more questions than answers. Why would his parents form a pact with a spirit, and who were they? They must have been at least somewhat important if they'd managed to draw the attention of a spirit, or at the very least they must have been powerful. Why would Rasim have been included in their pact? A child doesn't seem like a particularly useful servant. Why would it take twelve years for the portion of divine essence bound to Rasim's soul to express itself?

Unfortunately those questions will have to wait, you don't have even the barest inkling of an idea of where to go to find answers to any of them. “What about the defense of the city? I recall you saying something about having an idea to help fight off a dragon attack, should the need arise.”

Karim grins a wicked grin. “Ahh, now wouldn't that be telling? An old man must keep some secrets to himself. All I can tell you, Mikhael, is that I've recruited a handful of my friends and colleagues to make a few slight alterations to the plans for the construction of Kadir's walls. Certain changes that I think will go a long way to prevent the fall or destruction of the city should dragons ever come pouring out of the mountains.”

That reminds you of something else you've been meaning to ask about. “Speaking of your 'friends and colleagues', Master, just what is the deal with this little Vatis club you're apart of? A shadowy cabal of Vatis working together and meeting in secret to discuss politics and the possibility of making demands of the Shah is sure to draw the ire of the nobility. Oh, and why wasn't I invited to join?” You're a bit hurt, to be honest.

Master Karim scoffs. “The nobility can rot in Surya's fiery maw for all I care! For too long Vatis have been relegated to the status of second class citizens despite our vast contributions to Samjan society. We've a right to organize, and we're taking advantage of it to improve or lot in life. Right now it's just an excuse to sit around and drink and discuss, but soon Mikhael. Soon we'll be much more.”

>>
“I can't elaborate on what exactly we have planned, but at the very least let me assure you we remain loyal subjects of the Shahdom. We don't wish to change the present order of things, maybe just see a few ancient laws repealed and a few privileges granted. As for an invitation, well. I could recommend you but I don't think it would be wise of you to join us. Not yet at least. Perhaps once you've been officially unbanished we could induct you into our number.”

That doesn't exactly put you at ease but you suppose you can trust your Master, he doesn't really seem like the revolutionary sort, after all. If you had to guess they're probably just going to push for Vatis to be allowed to marry. Considering recent controversies, particularly those regarding your friend Ismail and his mistress, that would make the most sense.

Not like it really affects you, you'll be in Elaudia for the next several weeks, or months. Most likely months, considering your task. To scour the jungles of Elaudia in search of an ancient lost recipe. “Well regardless of what you intend I wish you the best of luck, Master. I do hope you don't attempt anything too extreme, but if you do at least delay it long enough for me to reach the jungles of Elaudia. I'd like to be far, far away if there's to be an impending civil war.”

Karim raises an eyebrow, his expression inquisitive. “Elaudia? I thought you were going to the deserts of the Pa'vala next. What led you to change your mind?”
(3/?)
>>
>>41330772
>to improve or lot in life.
>>
You shrug. “I put it to a vote amongst my party members and most wound up supporting Elaudia over the Pa'vala. Really, a lot of my impetus for first going to the Pa'vala was to free my mind of outside influences and restore my sanity. However, as of late I've found other methods of keeping myself sane. It's just not as pressing an issue as it once was.”

It's then that Rasim returns with the elf's clothes bundled up in his arms. He presents them to Master Karim, who just gestures in the general direction of the sleeping elf. “What are you giving them to me for? You're the one who got her to strip in the first place, you dress her. Not like the clothes are particularly complicated, it's a tunic and some trousers. Get to it, we're leaving soon.”

Rasim swallows nervously as he makes his way over to the sleeping girl. You question the wisdom of having Rasim dress the girl, considering he was trying to screw her before Karim evidently interrupted. Still, you're right here. You doubt he'd try anything. Regardless you wanted to ask your Master about your coming journey. “Do you have any advice for traversing Elaudia? Have you ever been there?”

Master Karim leans his weight heavily against his staff, smiling nostalgically. “I've been a few times, though not in the last four hundred years. As you can imagine, a lot can change in that time. I doubt I'd even recognize the jungle if I had to return today. Still, the best advice I can give is to just keep moving forward. Don't let yourself get turned around, don't go wandering off course if you can avoid it. The jungle is dense, and wild, and as difficult to navigate as the sea in a storm.”

(4/?)
>>
You're about to ask your Master something else, when he reaches out to pull back the sleeve of your robe. “When did you get these, Mikhael?”

You hold out your arm, twisting it so he can get a good look at your new tattoos. “I got these after I showed off a dragon's corpse to a tribe of nomads outside of El-Amin. I got lost on my return trip and found myself near their camp, I wound up spending a few nights with them. Anyway, these symbols here-” You point to the two runes inscribed on the back of your hand. “-are runes. This one means 'Contain', while the one in the center is sort of an unknown. The elder claimed it meant 'life', but I don't actually know the rune for 'life' or if such a rune exist.”

Master Karim leans in to get a better look at the runes. “Contain Life, eh? What sort of effect do you think such an enchantment would have? Keep you from dying, or some such?”

You shrug your shoulders. “I suppose ideally it would prevent me from dying even after sustaining otherwise mortal wounds. That's what I'd hope. I don't actually know with any certainty what it does to be honest, but I also haven't exactly been eager to test it.”

Karim nods sagely. “I can see why you might be hesitant to test the limits of such an enchantment. If you're wrong, you may simply wind up killing yourself. How tragic that would be, to survive all manner of horrors and trials only to die by your own hand during an experiment. It almost sounds like some sort of parable, something about being overambitious.”

(5/6)
>>
The pointed look he gives you doesn't go unnoticed, but you plow on ahead. “Well, I'll leave you and Rasim to return the girl.” You glance towards the elf, who's at least awake now. Still high as hell, but at least able to more or less dress herself with minimal assistance from Rasim. “Quickly though, before I go, I thought I'd share with you a few runes I learned recently from a spirit whom I've had dealings with in the past.” Actually, speaking of runes and enchanting. “Any idea whether or not that Child has left El-Amin yet?”

While you're busy extracting an ink well and a piece of paper from your cloak, Karim updates you on the current state of the void. “The last time I checked the shrine it had turned to wholly to stone, rather than a semi-ethereal portal into the void, but the runes were still glowing. I've abstained from any experiments with enchanting as a precaution but I'm optimistic that soon I'll be able to resume my work.”

You hand him two sheets of paper, tucking the ink well back into your cloak. Each piece is covered front and back in runes, and each rune has next to it a brief explanation of what it means and what you think it can do. You couldn't precisely recall what runes you'd already taught him, so you just recorded every rune you knew.

He takes the papers from you gratefully, promising to hide the instructions somewhere safe before leaving for the palace with Rasim. The elf girl is finally dressed, so they'll probably leaving soon. Now might be a good time to take your leave.

Anon, we could totally marry Vasuda.

Just get a little fame and she's ours, she loves us already and once she asks kadir (her cousin) if we could be wed he would totally say yes.

Infact we're about to be the first ever person to be unbanished while still alive. That's enough fame right there
>>
>>41332120
Us being famous doesn't change the fact that she already has a husband.

If divorce ever becomes a thing, then we could definitely marry her. Until then, the most we could ever have with her is an illicit affair.
>>
>>41332120
necessary steps to marry Vasuda:
become unbanished (only a matter of time)
be restored as a noble because vatis can't marry (no going to happen because we will be restored as a vatis), or have Kadir change the law so that vatis can marry (small possibility)
have Vasuda's marriage to shitbrother annulled (very unlikely, as annullment for domestic abuse is almost impossible and even if done it would stain our family's reputation)
be allowed to marry her even though she was married to our brother

so please keep it down with "we could totally marry her"

You nod briefly to your old Master, and again to Rasim. “Well, I'll leave you to take care of the girl. I wish you the best of luck with her father, I get the feeling you'll need it.” Really though, what sort of girl just runs off with a boy she's never met and nearly sleeps with him? She can't be much older than twelve or thirteen, too young to be engaging in such things. “I believe I'll go visit my family estate and say goodbye to my parents.”

Karim simply dismisses you with a wave, his attention turning to Rasim. While he starts barking orders to get the girl on her feet, you quickly slip out of your Master's home. Vaisala is waiting for you outside, though she seems to have caught a rodent of some sort while you were speaking with your Master. The sound of bones crunching between her teeth echoes through the relatively sparsely populated streets. You just pat her affectionately on the head before mounting up.

As per usual she seems to almost know where you want to go before you even direct her. Soon you're navigating the streets of Anthus, ducking past carts and through alleyways on your way to the Noble's District in the southeast corner of the city. You skirt around the edge of El-Amins Grand Bazaar, you have no desire to try and traverse that tangle of stalls and pedestrians on Vaisala. You can only imagine her getting distracted by the scent of cooking meat and crashing through half the market to find the source. Your trip winds up taking a little longer but you still make relatively good time.

Your family estate is much as you remember it, though there are a few more guards patrolling around the perimeter than you remember. Perhaps a result of your family's ever growing fortune? Regardless, you're recognized as you approach and the guards open the gates for you as you draw near.

You dismount once inside the courtyard, gesturing for the two guards standing near the front door to come forward. They do as you bid, and once they're close enough you pat Vaisala affectionately on the neck. “I'll need you to take care of my mount while I'm here. Bring some meat up from the stores and feed her for me, and do watch your fingers. She can be a bit... well, over eager when it comes to food.”

The guards nod, and one reaches out to put a hand on Vaisala's neck. Presumably to lead her away. For his efforts he's snapped at, only moments before Vaisala starts walking off towards the stables of her own free will. It's fortunate that guard had good reflexes, or else he would've lost his hand. With your mount taken care of, you enter the estate proper. The foyer is empty, so you check the dining room only to find that it too is abandoned. You're puzzled for a moment, but a faint laugh reaches you from the gardens.

Ducking your head through the heavy curtain that separates the inside of your home from the small rear courtyard where your family maintains a conservative garden, you find your mother, step-mothers, sisters, and Vasuda lounging together in the shade of a gnarled olive tree. They seem to be enjoying a lunch of fatteh, a meal consisting of lightly toasted flatbread topped with strained yogurt, steamed chickpeas, and olive oil along with a variety of herbs and spices. You also spot a few lamb skewers roasting over a brazier.

Your mother is the first to notice you, standing swiftly from the couch she'd been lounging on to crossing the garden to wrap you in a tight hug. She kisses you twice on each cheek before finally releasing you, clearly glad to see you're alright. “My boy is home!” She exclaims. “Come, come join us for lunch. You'll need to tell us where your travels have taken you. I trust you've been well since your last visit?”

She practically drags you over to the small circle of chairs and couches laid out in the shade of the olive tree. The meat smells wonderful, and it's been some time since you last got to enjoy fatteh. With a snap of her fingers a slave brings forth a chair for you to sit in, while another vanishes into the estate. Likely to get you some food. Meanwhile, your mother returns to her couch.

We might not be the person Kadir hates most any more, but we still aren't BFF. He will unbanish us, he might even give us an additional reward, e.g. a title or something. People want to be made a Khedive, want to get the right for vatis to marry, want a more or less unprecedented divorce (which would bring its own problems with it)...
It's a bit much to ask for everything. Why not ask him to step down and make us Shah?

The rights for Vatis to marry will probably come from this little vatis organization our Master is a part of.

Some sort of title is possible but entirely optional when it come to unbanishing. But Unbanishing is such an unprecedented thing that Kadir may throw in a title.

Literally never happened before.

The divorce thing is the only real hang up. Which could easily be Vasuda begging her cousin to allow it. May have to speak with him on it personally and try to convince him. We're great at convincing people.
