You are Sallazar, a young wizard who has recently left the army. You have taken a teaching job at Egwen Girls Convent.

In addition the Headmaster of the school wants you to run the schools adventurers club, to give some of the schools more...unusual...girls something fun to do.

You leave the crabby old lady Sister Mary to her gardening and head out to find Safire. She approached you very nervously the other day to add her name to the list of girls requesting private tutoring from you, and then quickly fled before you could talk to her further.

You spend the rest of the afternoon talking to the students of the school as you hunt her down. Like many of the girls on your list, she prefers her own company and it takes time to locate her.

Finally you are directed to the deep cellars, finding her underground in the storerooms, where the carved passageways meet the natural cave system under the school. After living with the dwarves for years, the deep underground doesn’t bother you as it does so many others.

You find Safire curled up reading a book by candlelight. She’s in a small storeroom that has all the appearance of a personal hideaway: a pile of books, a supply of candles, sacks stuffed with straw all piled up to lie on, even a chair and a small desk to do homework at.
>>
She doesn’t seem to notice when you stick your head in. She’s wearing an ordinary school uniform, and not the all-covering cloak and facemask she normally wears – they are slung on the chair back.

You see a slight young girl, smiling as she reads her book. Her skin is blue and translucent; by the candlelight illuminating her face, you can just see the outline of her muscles underneath her skin as you catch her in an unguarded moment.

You knock gently on the door to signal your presence.

Safire reacts like a spooked cat: dropping her book and scrambling off the comfy-looking sacks she was lying on, and knocking her candle flying, hot wax spilling everywhere as she scrambles.

“Easy, easy” you say, your hands out “it’s just me, nothing to worry about.”

Safire takes the time to look at you and then stops panicking as you bend down to pick up the candle and fit it back into its carrying plate.

Safire looks down and away, biting her lower lip “Sorry Sir” she whispers.

“It’s fine” you say, setting the candle on the table and looking around “this looks like a nice little den you’ve got here, I can see why you’d come down here.” You notice there are lots of things written on the walls in tiny neat handwriting.

“Anyway” you say, focusing on Safire “I came to see you because you said you’d be interested in some tutoring in how to protect yourself against being summoned. I have some free time, is now a good time.”

“Uh, yes, I suppose” says Safire, looking at the cloak and mask on the chair, within arms reach of you.

You take a step back and she comes forward hesitantly, always watching you. When she gets close to the robe and mask she grabs them both and retreats, hastily donning them. Once she is properly covered she asks “can you really help me?” her voice is muffled somewhat by the mask.
>>
“I do” you say in a quiet, calm voice so as not to scare her. But how will you help her?

>Just start the lesson; you can talk about heavier stuff later (exclusive)

You decide to start with the reason she asked for your help: stopping someone from summoning her.

You lean against the desk and outline the main limitations of summoning spells and how they can be overcome. Safire takes out a notebook and starts writing.

After a few minutes she raises her hand. You suppress a small smile and resist the urge to tell her that she can simply speak – you’re not in a classroom with another twenty girls right now after all.

“Yes Safire?” you ask

“Umm, which is the best method, Sir?” asks Safire “not the easiest or the quickest to learn, but the one that works the best, Sir?”

Ah good, she’s put some thought into this...

“All of them” you say.

Safire pauses for a moment and then says “I don’t understand, Sir.”

“With a simple Protection spell you can prevent many summoning attempts because the spell won’t summon something it can’t control” you say “except some spells summon the target into prepared confinement, such as a magical circle, rather than relying upon controlling the target. Such a spell won’t be stopped by a Protection spell. Now a Dimensional Anchor spell on the other hand, will stop you being teleported and thus summoned, but you might need to drop the spell to teleport yourself, leaving you open to attack. What I’m saying is that each and every method I could teach you has some sort of weakness, none of them are perfect.”

“Oh...” says Safire quietly, her mask is tilted downwards.

“But” you say “by learning multiple methods of preventing, and escaping summoning and other magical capture methods, you will force your foes to overcome not just one defence, but lots of defences – any one of which could stop them.”

You pause to see if Safire is keeping up.

There’s a pause of a few moments and then Safire says “I want to learn all of them then Sir, please?”

Yeah, you think she’s getting it.

“Lets start with the simplest method” you say “Protection spells offer a number of benefits...”
>>
After several hours you are both feeling rather tired. Safire already has a well of arcane magic within her. With your help she can now touch it, but can’t use it for anything. You’ll need several more sessions before she is able to cast any spell reliably.

“That’s enough for today” you say, aware that its getting late “you’ve done well today, really you have” you add when Safire doesn’t react to your words of encouragement “now get some rest and I think I have you in my Arcane Theory class on Threesday this week, so-”

Safires hand shoots up again.

“Yes Safire” you say, trying not to smile at that habit.

“Can we have another session like this Sir?” she asks “Soon? I’m just starting to get the hang of touching my own magic Sir, please, I want to learn more”.

Well, she’s motivated at least. How do you respond?

“Sure” you say “how does 2 hour sessions twice weekly sound? I think I can fit that in without too much trouble.”

You and Safire consult your schedules and plan out some sessions over the next few weeks.

[Due to being highly motivated, Safire gains Training Points faster than normal when learning Wizard or Sorcerer abilities.]

“If you can spare the time” you say “you’re welcome to train with the adventuring club”. You quickly add “you don’t need to go into dungeons if you don’t want to, but you’re welcome to use the club facilities, and you will learn to use your powers faster if we use the supplies on order.”

Safire mulls this over for half a minute and then says in a diffident “is it alright if I join Sir?”

“Of course it is” you say in an encouraging tone of voice “It’s the best way for you to get some extra practise in.”

“Could we not also do more private sessions?” asks Safire, before remembering to add “Sir” She starts tidying up some of her meagre possessions.

“I would if I could” you say “but I have a lot on at the moment: the club, regular lessons, bolstering the schools wards, making-”

“Why are you bolstering the schools wards?” asks Safire suddenly, her mask suddenly turning to face you “Sir, have the sc-...the sc- have they come back?” Her robes are shaking slightly.

“Not as far as I know” you say “no” The shaking subsides as you add “though we’re always on the lookout for them. No, the reason I’m working on the wards is that Headmaster Sarum is a master wizard, but his area of expertise is necromancy – mine is abjuration, including wards. Beating his wards will be very difficult, but those I can make will be harder still” Almost impossible you add to yourself, though maybe that’s just your ego talking.

“Anyway, it’s late” you say “I’ll walk you to your dorm.”
---
>>
The two of you walk out across the school grounds towards Safires dorm. It’s late and there’s only a little bit of light left. You are discussing the basic principles of wards: Safire asks intelligent questions and remembers what you tell her. You’re thoroughly enjoying the discussion.

Which can be your only excuse for what happens; for your lack of awareness of your surroundings.

The crossbow bolt hit you from behind and goes through your shoulder joint; you bellow in pain and stagger back. At your side Safire is frozen in shock.

[HP 13/18]

Everything suddenly starts to get hazy, the only real thing in the world in the incredible pain in your arm. You can smell something pungent on the crossbow bolt protruding forwards out of your body. Damn...poison...everything goes dark...
---
The next day starts as it always does: wake up, try to shake off last night’s nightmares, wash, dress, go down to breakf- wait, that’s not what’s happening. You can feel grass tickling your face and your shoulder hurts like the Hells.

Everything comes rushing back, but before you open your eyes you hear guttural voices talking: Human, Dwarven, and Orc.

You listen for a moment before acting.

“Kill her now!” insists a human voice “they won’t come after a dead one”.

“More money fresh” suggests a dwarf “Keep healing her, cut bits off.”

“Shut-up!” growls an orcish voice “my hunt, my orders, now get ready to move!”

You open your eyelids cautiously. You can see an orc, a dwarf and a human in front of you. They are all dressed in dark clothing and are wearing light armour and carrying weapons.

The human is kneeling on a struggling, kicking Safire and is binding her hands and legs. Her mask and cloak have been removed and there is a gag over her mouth – and from the sound of it, she’s trying to scream through the gag.

You hear footsteps on grass behind you. Another human voice says “nothing from the school boss.”
>>
“Good” says the orc, he must be the scalper the Headmaster told you about, in your haze of pain you can’t recall his name. “That cloak was worth every gold, now get her ready to move.”

“What about this?” a boot kicks you from behind, you force yourself not to react, despite the agony shooting through your arm and torso.

“Cut his throat” says the orc “the poison should have done for him by now; but be sure.”

Hah, poison you think fuzzily, good luck with that – you’ve been drinking with dwarves for the last seven years, any poison strong enough to kill you would etch metal...

You focus when you hear the figure behind you draw a blade from a sheath. Your mind suddenly starts analysing the situation.

Four attackers: 2 humans, 1 dwarf, 1 orc. They must be shielded from magical detection somehow and they would be foolish to come to a school ruled by a necromancer without some sort of protection against magical attack, plus they have Safire as a hostage.

They did, but most of our encounters with drow were already shields up, and the ones that weren't probably had an ally specialized in making sure we didn't get ambushed.

They wouldn't need to be that high level to avoid our Perception, and we're also pretty high level with a decent amount of DR.

Obviously not. If I had to guess, it'd be because the outside areas of the school aren't as heavily warded as the sleeping quarters.

I fail to see what makes it obvious, and why the hell would the outer parts of the school if anything not be MORE warded, its where you don't want people to get through.

But they need to be high level to beat our Ranged Defense and to manage to sneak into the school despite all the guards against that sort of thing being on high alert because of their previous attempt not even week ago.

Rabjol, that’s the orcs name, you remember now. You mumble the necessary words and gestures to raise your spell mantle. You’ve almost finished when you are suddenly flipped over, coming face-to-face with a rough-looking man, who has a shortsword raised to strike.

He pauses when he sees you staring back at him, and then brings down his sword with a grunt of effort.

You complete your spell just in time and his blade is stopped just short of your throat. You kick out at him as you scramble to your feet and he stumbles back.

“He’s alive!” he yells out. Rabjol and the dwarf turn to face you, both about six feet away from you. The man pinning Safire to the ground glances up, then resumes tying her restraints. Safires eyes are wide as she thrashes and screams.

“Gut him” says Rabjol, unslinging an axe and heading towards you. The dwarf follows after, a wicked-looking cleaver in his hand. Behind you the man who tried to cut your throat shifts his weight, ready to attack you again.

You see it coming this time, but you’re in pain and too woozy to dodge effectively. Nevertheless you twist to the side as another crossbow bolt comes flying out of the darkness and stops just short of your stomach, before dropping to the ground. Hahah yeah! You think drunkenly, magic is better than shitty crossbow bolts.

Still, you’ve got three going for you in melee, one unseen sniper, and one holding Safire.

You’re pretty sure your spell mantle can protect you, but if they start using their heads they could put a blade to Safires throat to get you to back off. You need to finish this quickly, or get Safire away from them, or maybe protect her.

As they all approach you with blades you block out what’s happening around you and focus on the intricate web of magic that surrounds you. You start to pull and tug at it with your will. Dimly you’re aware of swords and other blades scrapping off your protections as you work.

Carefully you extend the web of magic that holds all three spell in place until it touches Safire, and then you work on getting it to accept her as part of its normal parameters.

Suddenly it snaps into place and covers Safire. You see her struggles cease momentarily, as if she senses something is happening, then resumes struggling.

[Abjuration Reserve 156/186]

Ok, with that done, now you’re ready to dish out some punishment to Rabjol and his crew- oh dammit!

Rabjol and the dwarf have produced clay pots with fuses, which they light, great. You’ve been hit with oil flasks before and whilst your spells will protect you from burning to death, you’ll have to hold your breath and will find spellcasting very difficult. Your spell won’t protect you against breathing in burning hot air. Behind you your third attacker is continuing to swing at you with everything he’s got, his attacks utterly ineffective against your spells.

And...you have a further complication. Perhaps 30ft behind your attackers you can see a head poking around the corner of a building. What is Kittrane doing out this late? She’s bundled up in a thick coat, and from the look of determination, she’s about to get involved.

Safire fully restrained now, and her captor is standing with a sword in hand, and keeping Safire in place with a boot on her neck, forcing her face into the ground.

As they raise their clay pots to throw at you, you cast your spell. Dozens of bolts of magical force fly out and strike them. The dwarf and the man standing over Safire are thrown backwards and turned into charred masses of flesh. From the scream behind you, abruptly silenced, you think your other attacker has met the same fate. Rabjol has also fallen.

[AE 19/56]

As your bolts of energy hit, you saw some sort of magical shield appear on each of them, though it was quickly overwhelmed by the number and power of your attacks. It seems they came prepared, but “not good enough” you growl out past the throbbing pain in your shoulder.

Then you see Rabjol stand, facing towards you. You also see Kittrane running up behind him, trying to be as silent as she can.

Rabjol is smoking slightly, but appears unharmed; it seems his magical protections were stronger than those of his fellows.

“I could say the same” says Rabjol, hefting his axe to throw and turning towards Safire.

Before you or Rabjol can react, Kittrane tackles him, flames starting to lick from her skin. His axe goes flying but he quickly throws her off, using the momentum of her own charge to simply toss her to one side.

You can hear raised voices in the distance; it seems help is on the way. Rabjol, grimaces, screwing his face up and making himself look even uglier.

“Hunters Gambit!” he bellows out and they grabs something hanging from his belt. Your still-fuzzy brain throws up the fact that some rangers and scouts use a Hunters Gambit to discourage pursuit – they wound one of their foes and escape whilst everyone is trying to help the injured party. You remember that he still has an ally out there with a crossbow. Safire is safe behind your spell, but Kittrane...

“Kittrane, sniper!” you yell, as she scrambles to her feet, ready to go after Rabjol again.

You can see Rabjol has some sort of enchanted object in hand, a teleport stone maybe?

You’re going to keep these girls safe *and* you’re going to capture Rabjol. You hastily cast your first spell and a dome of magical force springs into place, protecting Kittrane and Safire.

As Rabjol starts to activate his teleport stone you cast a spell to stop him. Even as you start casting you know he’ll be gone before you’re finished.

You grit your teeth and force the arcane powers you’re shaping to obey your desires, regardless of whether you’ve completed all the proper gestures or not.

Just as Rabjol is fading out a bar of blinding white energy springs from your hands and connects the two of you.

You can see flashes of lights and jumping sparks as Rabjols protections against magic attempt to stymie your attempt to keep him here.

[Abjuration Reserve 102/186]

When the lightshow dies down, Rabjol is standing where he’s supposed to be. The two of you glare at one another. In the distance you hear a bellow of agony followed by Groundskeeper Answicks voice yelling “Got ‘im ‘eadmaster!” Seems the sniper won’t be a problem anymore.

You’re aware of everything around you: the pain in your shoulder, the minute shifts in Rabjols stance as he prepares to do...something.

You’re also aware of Kittrane, still pinning Safire to the ground within your resilient sphere – it looks like she’s whispering in Safires ear.

You can hear the sound of clacking bones, and the gasping breath of the Headmaster as he comes running up.

You need to stop Rabjol, even if its just to avoid getting some other nasty surprise thrown at you.

You could simply restrain him, and let the Headmaster deal with him. Then you see the dwarfs charred corpse: he wanted to keep Safire alive and keep cutting pieces off her to sell, and Rabjol seemed willing to go along with his plan.

Your hands tremble slightly, you can’t think of anything you can do that can make this scum suffer enough for what he was about to do.

You cast another spell to create a dome of magical energy over Rabjol and wait until the Headmaster and his skeletons get there. Headmaster Sarum bends double and coughs and wheezes as he says “Well...done...Sallazar, Well....done. I’ve...got him now, go...check on the girls.”

As The Headmaster and his skeletons surround the globe of force you release Kittrane and Safire from your spell. Kittrane glances around and then stands up, easily lifting Safire to her feet with one hand.

You offer Kittrane your knife and she cuts Safire free.

Pain explodes in your shoulder as Safire slams into you and hugs you, her head on your shoulder as she cries, her tears soaking into your robe.

Kittrane looks a little disappointed, then seeing you looking at her she assumes a look of casual indifference. A sheet of paper starts to fall out of the bottom of her jacket and she quickly retrieves it, looking shifty. What was she doing out tonight?

Once Safire has calmed down a little, you all walk over to wear the Headmaster has cancelled your force sphere, and his skeletons have just finished searching Rabjol.

Safire seems unwilling to leave your side as you get close, Kittrane follows you too. Rabjol is on his knees and is being held by four skeletons, though he’s not resisting.

You hear a struggle and see Groundskeeper Answick dragging up another rough-looking human, who is all tied up...and has a crossbow bolt sticking out of his shoulder, looks like he was hit from the front.

“I don’t take attempts on my students lightly” the Headmaster is saying to Rabjol “I trust you know what I mean?”

Wait, is he going too..? In front of the girls?

“Do what you will Dedawaegen” snarls Rabjol “I do not fear death – my ancestors are smiling at me! They will welcome me with open arms!”
>>
Headmaster Sarum leans down and picks up a necklace taken from Rabjol. Examining it he says “Scar-fist tribe hmmm? Fearless warriors, but not slavers, no, I don’t they will welcome you. In fact I think you’ll end up in the Hell of Cowards. But I could be wrong, perhaps we might chat with them *before* you end up joining my staff hmm? Bring him” he directs this last to the skeletons, who haul Rabjol to his feet and drag him after the Headmaster.

Groundskeeper Answick and his captive follow.

“You’d best see Sister May about that shoulder” says the Headmaster over his shoulder “I have the skeletons searching the grounds, so don’t worry, and please see both girls to bed.”

“Is that, is that it?” asks Safire hesitantly “No trial or anything?” She’s still clinging to you.

“No” says Kittrane, shaking her head “justice, but no waste of time with a trial.”

“Rabjol deserves his fate” you say to both of the girls, as you watch the Headmaster and Groundskeeper Answick take their captives away “they both do.”

They’re both silent as they consider that.

“Well done for jumping on top of Safire” you say to Kittrane “to protect her I mean.”

“Oh er, it was nothing” says Kittane, blushing a little “Um, yeah, just what anyone would do....”

“Nonsense” you say “I’m proud of you, many people would have just stood there frozen, we’re lucky you are so quick-thinking, and that you were out tonight. Say, what where you doing out late tonight?”

Kittrane suddenly looks shifty “just out for a late night walk” she says “nothing big.” A piece of paper falls from her jacket to the ground. As Kittrane scrambles to retrieve it, lots of them fall from her jacket. She frantically gathers them up, but Safire picks one up.

“History test answers” she reads, then asks innocently “are you studying for a test?”

“It must be a very good study guide” you say, examining the sheet in Safires hand “it lists the test questions...for next weeks history test.”

Kittrane shoulders slump “It was going cheap” she says “and my grades need a bump if I want to graduate.”

She gives you a wary look “Am I in trouble?”

“Not tonight” you say, wincing at the stab of pain from your shoulder “we’ll talk about this later, c’mon, I need to see Sister Mary.”

“Will you stay with me tonight?” Safire asks Kittrane as you all head to the dorms.

“What?” asks Kittrane, looking rather surprised.

“I’m scared” says Safire “I don’t want to be alone.”

“You share your room with three other girls” grumbles Kittrane

“They’re mean” says Safire “besides you shielded me from a crossbow bolt, I feel safe with you, please?” She draws out that last word and looks up at Kittrane beseechingly.

Finally Kittrane capitulates “ok, fine, whatever, just for tonight.” She looks a little embarrassed, though it might be because of the test papers.
>>
Sister Mary removes the bolt and heals your wound; she is surprisingly gentle, and she keeps you distracted throughout, asking you about the fight, and the girls.
---
The next day starts as it always does: wake up, try to shake off last night’s nightmares, wash, dress, go down to breakf- wait, your crystal ball is glowing. Approaching it you see that its the Daves calling.

You answer it “it’s a bit early for you two to be conscious isn’t it?” you ask by way of greeting.

“Details, details” says Dave “look, we’ve got you your first gig this weekend: nothing special just several groups of heroes clearing out an abandoned castle. We figure you can take the place of Gilbrox as top villain, you know how he hates that role-”

“Wait, Gilbrox is still playing?” you ask “I thought he joined a merc company.” You can just see the other Dave in the distance, slumped over a desk, bottles of cheap booze all around him.

“He did, but one of them called him a half-breed and you know how that goes” says Dave, rolling his eyes “anyway, he loves playing the boss monster but not the sit back and watch, he wants to get stuck in.”

“He always did” you say “So the Witch-King holding the castle, Gilbrox as a solo encounter and skeletons and orcs?”

“Yeah” says Dave, combing his fingers through a dirty beard “got five parties of four apiece going for it. We’re going to use points tally to see who wins, with points lost if they lose members, now I figure your girls can either join the defences under your command, or if you like....” He gives you a smug look.

“Go on” you say, you know he’s just itching to tell you something.

“We could register them as a sixth party” says Dave excitedly “last minute addition and all of that, and then at the last minute they betray the others and claim the prize!”

“Hang on” you say “They’re registered as an evil party, won’t that y’know, be a giveaway?”
>>
Dave shakes his head “two of the other parties have merc registrations” he says “both teams are from schools sponsored by rival adventuring guilds – everyone else will be waiting for them to backstab each other, or just start fighting, your girls will be a complete surprise.”

“I dunno” you say doubtfully “I’d want to ask the girls which they want to do.”

“No time, no time!” says Dave “I gotta file the last forms within the hour, which is it to be: defenders of the castle or party of betrayal?”

“I’m still not sure they won’t be the prime suspects.” You say “How could the other teams possibly not suspect the new evil team that joins at the last mome-”

Dave interrupts “They’re all guy-teams” he says with a smirk “throwing in an all girl team last minute won’t make them suspicious, just competitive, so what’s it to be?”

“This weekend?” you say, buying yourself time to think.

“Right” he says “transport and accommodation free, because this is a big gig.”

“Don’t register them” you say to Dave “We agreed to play the villains in the dungeon – backstabbing other teams is just asking for rivalries and other bullshit.”

“Ugh fine!” says Dave, throwing his hands up, “when did you get so boring mate?”

“I grew up” you say dryly “you should try it sometime.”

“Hah ahah, yeah, no, you’re an arse” he says “anyway, outfits, we gotta talk outfits, slinky evil outfits and-”

“The girls haven’t picked out there final designs yet” you say.

“Well get them quick!” says Dave “We need them ready soon, what’s the theme?”

“Theme?” you ask

“Yeah, theme, like a uniform” says Dave “oh sure four girls’ll want 8 different outfits, but you gotta have something that ties them together like all spiderweb patterns, or red leather y’know?”

“Spikes and death!” burbles the Dave in the background, still facedown on his desk.

“Yeah like that” says Dave “What’s the theme?”

None of the girls have even picked a final design, maybe you should go and see them about that?

“I’ll ask the girls” you say firmly “and get back to you.”

“Right” says Dave “Go, enjoy moulding young girls, talk to you soon.” And then closes the connection.

You head down to breakfast, aware of the chattering that intensifies when you enter the hall, ah the gossip mill...

After morning lessons you have a free period before lunch, what do you plan to do?

You gather up the members of Team Fell Storm, including the reserves and tell them to get the outfit designs they were thinking of.

Once you’ve led them into an empty classroom you tell them about the dungeon that weekend and say “Ok with that in mind, we need final designs for your outfits.”

The girls all start talking at once, showing each other their designs. You speak loudly over them “and we need a theme! Not a uniform but some consistent design scheme so you look at least sort of related to one another, now, whilst you discuss that...I need to talk to Kittrane.” You leave Chame, Evrumine and Nevyn arguing over themes as Cleya and Syphoebeus try to make peace.

In an adjacent room you talk to Kittrane “So” you say.

She folds her arms and gives you a defiant look “So what?” she says challengingly

“So I trust you and Safire slept well?” you ask, with a smile.

“Uh yeah” says Kittrane “she wouldn’t stay on her side of the bed, but yeah, mostly. She snuggles a lot.”

“Good” you say “so these test papers...?”

“Found em” says Kittrane “also got rid of them last night, no copies, no evidence, do your worst teach.” She sticks out her chin aggressively

“And” you add “for what you *did* do, I’m awarding you 25 credits for protecting Safire.”

Kittrane just blinks, processing that, but she doesn’t seem so tense now. Still, she doesn’t thank you.

“C’mon” you say after a pause “Lets go back and see what the others have decided so far.”
---
“It’ll be great!” says Chame “and its distracting!”

“Ok, two things” says Cleya “firstly: Professor Sallazar already said *no* to bikini armour, second, how is that even supposed to protect us?”

“Duh, magic armour” says Chame, rolling her eyes.

“All decided then girls?” you say “So what’s the theme”

“They can’t decide” says Syphoebeus, grinning “we’ve got more ideas than people.”

“Lets just list them all” says Cleya “first Chame”

“Sexy outfits!” says Chame “no, hear me out Professor” she notes your disapproving look “girls want to feel sexy, this is a great opportunity plus it’ll distract the other teams and magic armour doesn’t care how much there is there right?”

You just stare at her, unblinking.

“Oh fine” she says “Lets go full ranger camouflage gear” she folds her arms and sulks “just like everyone else...”

“We should totally go barbarian-theme!” says Evrumine “furs and wooden shields and stuff!”

“Or, since we’re going to be minions of the Witch-King, use his colours” says Cleya

“Why not just suggest using the school logo you suck-up?” Kittrane challenges her “no, we need outfits that say *we’re bad and scary, respect us*, I think black and red leather and spikes!” Cleya and Kittrane glare at one another, their faces inches apart. You have to give Cleya credit, she’s not backing down, and Kittrane could probably snap her in half.

Before they can really get started, Syphoebeus interrupts “Sports gear” she says.

“Sports gear?” Cleya asks "uh, what?"

“Yeah” says Syphoebeus “minimal design” she smirks at you “but still covering everything important, functional and useful, after all this is like a sport isn’t it?”

“Chains” says Chame “chains everywhere and skulls, and spiders.”

Though a lot of those seem perfectly combinable. Dunno why Kittrane and Cleya think they can't do both, what are the colours of the Witch-King?

>>41327561
Yeah, unless you do something like pirates or ninja.
>>
>>41327538
I don't recall us telling them that we're the witch king
>>
>>41327610

>>

Necromancy theme.

Hits multiple things at once. It has lots of bone incorporated for Evrumine, the Witch-King is a lich iirc so it'll fit his theme for Cleya, and it's bad and scary for Kittrane. It also shouldn't be too difficult to make something sexy, but not revealing, for Chame.

Just about everyone should be happy with that. Especially the Headmaster I should think.
>>
>>41327600
>what are the colours of the Witch-King?

Grey and Brown - when you started out you had to work with what you had.

Mostly you hammed it up to give him character
>>
>>41327671
So basically we can get a costume upgrade for him to match the evil team if needed.
>>
>>41327666
I'll second that
>>
>>41327666
Sexy isn't a valid theme.
>>
>>41327666
>Necromancy theme.
I assume something similar should be done, if not necessarily Necromancy, but something skulls and bones themed, maybe a few pieces looking a bit worn, good way for some sexyness for Chame too.

>>41327671
>Grey and Brown
Shouldn't be hard to incorporate something Grey with Red/Black.
>>
oh so you're gonna decide are you?

Ok, will give some more detail on each girls ideas, then 10 minutes to discuss and write-in, then a vote.
>>
>>41327712
>if not necessarily Necromancy, but something skulls and bones themed
Yeah, skulls and bones, dark contrasting colors, ragged cloaks, lots of mascara, that sort of thing.
>>
>>41327811
Mascara? What? What kind of self-respecting necromancer wears mascara?
>>
>>41327707
Right, it's a modifier to a theme, and has various degrees and intensities.
>>
>>41327846
Real ones don't, they naturally have dark eyes from staying awake for weeks at a time doing forbidden research, combined with poor bloodflow from being suffused with necromantic magic.

But imitation necromancers imitate that with excessive amounts of dark makeup.
>>
Regardless of what theme we actually go with, I'd like to make an effort to show Chame that an outfit can be alluring without being risque'.
>>
>>41327866
I can't see Sallazar not only allowing but specifically creating and choosing a theme that is more sexualized.
>>
>>41327920
I can.
>>
>>41327920
Nor can I

>>41327945

>>
If we do go with a necromancy theme: skeletal-hand overbras? Yea or nay?
Assume they cover everything and that there is additional fabric beneath them, like halter-top at a minimum.
>>
>>41327969
>skeletal-hand overbras? Yea or nay?
I could see Chame liking that in any case, and I wouldn't object to it.
>>
>>41327969
This necromancy theme is honestly starting to make me mad, so I'll probably just vote against it.
>>
You ask the girls a few questions about their themes and ideas, including looking at their sketches for individual outfits – which incorporate their own theme ideas.

Chame wants a very minimalist sexy theme, but given that’s not allowed, she seems to prefer one with chains, skulls and anything creepy. It’s easy enough to match to the Witch-Kings evil sorcerer/necromancer theme, but then she goes on about leather whips and manacles and you wonder if the two of you have very different views of this theme

Cleya wants a professional theme using the Witch Kings colours – Though not imaginative it clearly marks them as minions, whilst giving them the most room for customisation.

Evrumine wants a barbarian theme: Animal furs and primitive outfits. You’re sure it would suit her, but maybe not the others...

Syphoebeus wants a sporty theme: The school’s sports uniform reveals more skin than the regular uniform but is not skimpy by any means. Still it would look good if the team does a lot of athletic feats, and wouldn’t weigh them down. Even when incorporated into armour it would give them an active look, if nothing else.

Kittrane wants a dangerous, *bad girls* theme: Leather, black and red, spikes and extreme hairstyles. You wonder what sort of magazines she reads...
Anyway, it would definitely match the team name, and would be very distinctive.

Nevyn wants a stealth/unknown theme: Concealing clothes in black, grey or other camouflage colours and full face coverings. Perfect for a stealthy team that strikes from the shadows and fades away...which some of the team can pull off.

10 minutes for discussion and write-ins, followed by a vote.

If you want to suggest original themes, or combining ones, please say and it will be included.
>>
>>41328029
I like Chame, Kittrane and Nevyn's ideas. Faces hidden by masks are a staple of evildom and can look pretty badass.

I also like every girl having a different outfit but with the same core.
>>
>>41328029
As far as I see most of these can work together. Use Cleyas idea of some Witch-King colours for the overall colour choice, the skulls and manacles serve well for Chame and Kittranes tastes, skulls also work into what Evrumine wants.
And Nevyn and whoever likes her idea can just use skull masks or similarly themed helmets/hoods.
>>
>>41328016
That's cool man, I'm just trying to put ideas out there that would make the characters happy. If you've got another good idea, by all means put it forward.
>>
>>41328071
>I also like every girl having a different outfit but with the same core.
I think that'll happen regardless of what gets picked.
>>
>>41328029
Since they're minions of the witch king let's give them all a witches cap regardless of whatever else we choose.
>>
>>41328029
If they all pick just dark colours, plus maybe reds, and everyone gets something looking like a skull on their costume, that should be enough.

There is no reason they should be too uniform.
>>
>>41328122
And how would skeletal hand overbras please anyone except maybe Chame?
>>
Necro theme.

Mostly bone, dark makeup, and dark fabric frayed at the ends. Other ideas the girls have (excepting sporty I think) can be incorporated into it.
Update the Witch-King outfit to reflect.
>>
>>41328193
I didn't mean to say that everyone should have them. Just as an option for sexy-but-not-revealing that anyone who cares to take could take.
>>
>>41328193
>please anyone except maybe Chame?
I think it pleasing Chame is good enough a reason.
Don't see it bothering the other girls, and its not so lewd that we would have to forbid it either.

Its alright to make sure they don't take costumes that reflect poorly on the school and themselves, buit that doesn't mean crushing all individual taste.

“How about we combine some of these ideas” you say “we use the Witch-kings colours for overall colour choices, you can customise with skulls and/or manacles” you nod to Chame and Kittrane “skulls and horns can easily fit a barbarian theme” Evrumine looks pleased “and skull masks – even half-face ones can look very scary, especially combined with a deep hood”.

There’s some discussion, but eventually the girls agree, and start making adjustments to their preferred designs.

You collect up final requests, reject several of Chames before she gives you one you’re happy with, and reject one of Cleyas for being well...more risqué than most of Chames. Cleya just blushes, refuses to look you in the eye and hands you another design. You wonder if someone dared her to put that sketch forwards, still, all the holes would allow the eyestalks to emerge...anywhere.

It takes a while for all the sketches to be finished, and you just have enough time to grab lunch. Ah dammit, you wanted to talk to them about magic items too, well, another time.

Whilst you’re eating a note is delivered.

“A dozen boxes of stuff arrived for yourself Sir. I had them take it to the clubhowse.

Excellent, it sounds like your purchases are here.

After dinner you gather your club together and spend the rest of the evening assembling training gear and unpacking straw-filled boxes.

The arcane circle components you have the skeletons unload – you’ll set those up yourself as they can be dangerous when mishandled.

Eventually everything is finally assembled and the girls all have a chance to try the equipment for a few minutes apiece.

You notice Safire is following Kittrane around, and imitating her.

Eventually its getting late “Ok girls” you say “time to turn in”

“Five more minutes, please?” asks Nevyn, as she prepares for another run through the Combat Wheels.

“No” you say firmly “But I did want to talk to you about magic items. When you’re competing you’re allowed three each, unless your theme allows more. Now I can’t craft just anything, and some might be too expensive; but please, start thinking about what you want and I’ll see what I can do.

“We should all have some sort of short-range teleport item” says Anlanesa “So we don’t get split up.”

“Ooooh, I know” says Chame “can I have the whip you found Prof?”

“Wands and potions are the most useful and versatile” says Cleya “because they can do anything.”

“Can I have a weapon that is part of me?” asks Calluna

“Axe” says Kittrane “flaming, two blades, some skullwork.”

“Darkness bombs” says Nevyn

“How about something to protect against magic” says Phaysis “or that hurts mages when they use magic?”

“Can I have an axe too?” asks Evrumine

“And me” says Safire, holding up her hand and waving “I like flaming skulls too.”

“Girls” you say with a tolerant smile “write down your ideas and let me have them, I’ll do what I can – now go, I have arcane circles to prepare.”

Thanks for playing. For your actions today you gain 5XP for the main character and 13XP for the Club, I hope you enjoyed yourselves.

Next thread will be in about 15 hours, please check twitter for updates.

There is a miniquest coming. One in which you control one of the girls.

This is by a new QM so please, be forgiving of his mistakes, as you have been of mine.

Is this Miniquest canon? Yes, unless I say otherwise.

Well, that sucks. Time to improvise. Anyway, time to get this on.

Welcome everyone, to Egwen's mini quest. It will focus on Phaysis, everyone's favorite half-nightmare girl. As expected, it will be a short story, though I tend to take too long to write everything. Fucking 2000 long character limit, jesus christ.
====

Every morning is the same struggle.

The church’s bells ringing torn you from your peaceful sleep and throw you into the uncaring cold of the morning, moments before the sun rises and shines to bring some much needed warmth.

You pull your bedsheets closer to your body, hugging them tight and try to go back to sleep against your body’s protests. Staying in bed for too long can hurt, but it’s definitely better than facing the cold right now.

You sigh and hear someone already up and moving around. They’re not being loud, but you can still hear them well enough. Is it the sister? Crap, they are usually louder than this, but you jolt up anyway, just in case.

You hear a giggle and a loud whisper. “Well, that was easy today.” Turning to the origin of the giggling, you see, however, not the nun you are used to being shaken by. Instead, you see a girl of demonic blood wearing nothing but a transparent nightgown.

You quickly avert your gaze down, eliciting more giggling from her. “Good morning Phaysis. Coffee is ready.” She informs you. “The others should be up soon.” Lilliana says, turning to Nevyn’s bed on the other side of the room.

Right. You are not home anymore, ever since you burned the orphanage down and were sent to this school. You mutter a word of thanks to Lilliana and turn to the nightstand next to your bed, pull one of the draws open and retrieve an old pendant in the shape of the goddess’ symbol. After muttering a few words of prayer, you put it back and jump off the bed, ready to face the day. Kinda.
>>
>>41330180
Some mornings are rougher than most. Not just because of the chilly breeze, but there are days when the homesickness hits you in full. Today isn’t THAT bad, but still...were you dreaming of the orphanage? You can’t remember.

Talk about irony. Someone with control over dreams forgets her own dreams.

After the usual necessities, you find yourself at the little table with the other girls still in the process of waking up. “Good morning.” You say, while the other girls wave and mutter morning greetings.

You take a good look at everyone. Like always, you and Lilliana are the only ones fully awake and ready. You because of the muscle memory of waking up before the sun beaten into you by the sisters, Lilliana because she never sleeps or something. She often prepares breakfast for everyone because of that, which is nice, in a way. Someday you need to repay her kindness.

Nevyn is still yawning and wearing just an old shirt and shorts (you and she are the only non-tieflings here). Cybele looks absolutely terrible and is wearing the same boyshorts she’s been wearing for the past three days (eew) and a tank top. Julie is currently stuffing herself with a toast, still wearing the uniform she wore yesterday. Rachel is currently falling asleep on the table, clad only in her bedsheets, goddess damnit, why does she never put anything on to sleep?

Sometimes it’s grating to be the only one who wears normal pajamas here.

“So, what are your plans for today girls?” Lilliana asks, serving coffee and putting a plate for you down on the table.

“Going to trade my life force for grades again.” says Cybele. Lilliana smirks and ruffles her hair, much to her chagrin. “Don’t worry, it will be worth it.”

Julie opens her mouth (full of toast) to speak, “HM! I’f herd de-“ Lilly frowns and interrupts her “Don’t eat with your mouth full.” Man, she looks like Sister Jane when she does that.
>>
>>41330225

Julie swallows hastily and speaks excitedly. “I’ve heard there is going to be a party tonight!” she says, causing all the other girls to wake up or shake their morning stupor off. “It’s going to last all night! I think they even got permission for that by abusing one the clubs’ activity rules or something!”

“A party, uh? I think THAT is worthy of my life force.” Cybele smirks. “If you can discover when it will be, count me in!” She didn’t even think about it. You can see Rachel is interested too: she no longer is half asleep and is now watching Cybele and Julie with curious attention. She doesn’t speak much in the mornings (if at all, you don’t remember her ever talking in the mornings), you can usually understand what she is feeling.

Nevyn turn to you with a smile. Yep, she wants to go too. “What do you say about it, eh? If it’s during the night, we can sneak in without anyone noticing us.” You frown.

“That’s rude, Nevyn. Just because I’m all black doesn’t mean I’m good at sneaking.” You reply.
“Black? Phaysis, come on, you are way, way darker than black.” You smirk and cross your arms. “Nevyn, are you trying to make me lose it?” She giggles. You two have been at this various times, it’s tradition now.

“Alright girls, go get dressed and go to class, you’re going to be late.” Lilly says while shooing everyone from the table, like a worried mother. It feels good to have someone taking care of you like that, even though it’s weird when that person is a roommate and is the same age as you...or does she? You never asked, but you know she is in the same year as you, or she wouldn’t be in the same dorm as you.

As you and Nevyn dress up, however, she turns to you. "Hey." You flinch and turn your back to her. "You seem a bit rough today. Had a bad night?"

Anyway, writing.
>>
“Just homesick.” you answer her with the (mostly) truth. Your night wasn’t rough, just the morning, but that you miss the orphanage and the sisters everyday is true. Stupid fire hair, burning everyting down.

You can feel Nevyn’s gaze on you, while you dress up. She takes a while to answer; you’ve been through this before and she knows it’s not gonna change so easily. “That means I will just have to try harder, yeah?” she gives a short bark of laughter, causing you to smile a little. Even though you will feel homesick for quite some time (you’re not sure if you will ever stop feeling this way while here), it’s always nice when Nevyn tries to cheer you up.

You finish putting your long skirt on and then drape the uniform’s cloak on your shoulders. Hm, nice, proper and warm. When you turn around, you see Nevyn sitting down on her bed, complete uniform on and watching you with a grin. “Nice, proper and warm?” she raises an eyebrow.

You throw a pillow at her and she falls back laughing. “Pervert.” you say while picking your things up and leaving the room. Nevyn quickly follows after you, laughing and making bad jokes about you as you both go to

"C'mon Phaysis, don't be so uptight. There is nothing wrong in being nice, pff, proper and warm~. You know that you can always count on me to keep you warm~” you clench your teeth, that’s so cringeworthy.

“Nevyn, stop that, you’re getting worse than Chame.” you tell her with an annoyed tone. “Alright, alright, I will stop.” she says, but you know the next part: “For now.” you say at the same time, smirking.

As you both walk down the school’s hallways and dodge tired students, Nevyn calls to you. “Hey, check this out.” She exchanges glances with another student, a senior according to the official ribbons she wears, shake hands, slap hands, and make some weird signs with three fingers and then hug. As they part, you can see the senior slip something to Nevyn.
>>
“The new code has arrived.” she says, delivering a small, black book to you. You eagerly take it from her and start to read the new guidelines. Hopefully this time the faculty won’t crack it too fast.

“Hmm, oh, hey, this is a new one, isn’t it?” You ask, pointing at the drawing of a ribbon you don’t recognize. “Yeah, I think it is. What does it say?” she asks back.

You quickly read its description “It seems to be…” if your cheeks weren’t dark, your blush would be seen from a mile away. “Uh, it’s nothing exciting.” you say, flipping the pages. “Err, this one isn’t interesting as well. Neither is this one. Goddess, why?” You close the book and hand it to Nevy. Geez, that’s disgusting. Hope the faculty cracks the code as soon as possible.

“Aw, is it that bad? Did the succubi manage to get new ribbons?” Nevyn grins, enjoying your embarassment. She pokes you on the side, right below the ribs. “Gah, stop that!” you say.

“You are so fun to tease, Phaysis. A pity you’re so dark, I bet you are blushing.” she jokes. You look at her with a frown. She’s just making light fun of you, but that was mean. “...let’s just go to class.” you tell her, not in the mood for this.

“You go ahead, I need to talk to someone first, see if *I* can discover the party’s time.” she looks both ways. “I might be a bit late, though, think you can answer the roll call for me?” You just stare at her, incredulous.

“Alright, fine. I can’t guarantee it, so try to be fast and don’t get in trouble, alright, or else you might be in for a paddling!” she smiles, winks and leaves after another senior, clearly not taking your warning seriously.

Maybe you should show her how serious of a warning this year? Hm, that might be too mean to her if she doesn’t do anything wrong, though. If only Sister Josiam was here….alas, you are not in the orphanage anymore, and the sisters are not here to keep the contrarians in line.
>>
You sigh and let your shoulders slump. You miss home.

“Oomph!” suddenly you feel yourself being propelled forward and you see the floor rising to meet you. You manage to shield yourself, but your books spread over the floor. “Watch it!” You quickly collect them and turn back to see what the hell pushed you down.

“Well, well, well.” Oh no, it’s her. “Who do we have here?” Anabelle and her troupe are all together. She grins at you with hostile intent, and her cronies leer at you both, staying back like wolves behind their alpha. “Or should I say, what?” You don’t like her; she’s a very bad girl.

You scowl. “What do you want this time.” bitch? “Oh, me? Nothing much, just trying to go to class without stumbling on trash lying on the way.” The stupid sidekicks giggle while their succubus leader smiles wide.

You notice she’s wearing all the new ribbons you read about. They are all expertly tied on various places on her form fitting uniform, highlighting her good looks and how generous succubi assets are. Absolutely disgusting. Why can’t she wear something proper for her size? And all the skin exposed between her skirt and socks, that’s very wrong. If this was the orphanage, this kind of thing wouldn’t be tolerated.

“What are you making that face for?” she’s trying to provoke you, you know this. Glancing around, you see the other students giving you a wide berth, some stop and turn around to take another route to their classrooms, though some are watching from a distance. You can’t see anyone from the faculty either. This is bad.

Damnit, Nevyn, where are you? ‘What’s so important that you had to leave me alone like this?’

Anabelle steps forward opening her arms slightly, trying to goad you into doing something the sisters (and the professors) would not approve of.
>>
“Got something to say, uh, horsie?” She raises her hand and feints an attempt at pushing you (or groping you?), but you step back. Seems she liked the reaction, though, as she licks her lips and leers at you. “Or maybe your body does? I can hear it crying out to me be ridden~.”

Goddess give you strength. You want to hurt her so bad.
