Old thread fell off the board. I bet RUST did this.

Matryoshka Partition is a /TG/ Homebrew project being built in the Fuzion system (particularly their Bubblegum Crisis sourcebooks,) with a cyberpunk/action/mecha/80s Cartoon vibe.

Go here to view and contribute to the current rules, world building materials, and stories, as well as grabbing the official Fuzion rulebooks:

Join in and lend a hand! We're always looking for fresh ideas to contribute to the setting.

Setting synopsis follows:

>Earth has been conquered by Matryoshka Empire, a galactic empire of cybernetic machine-men called Cybots- beings capable of transforming from man to vehicle. Earth was swiftly conquered and became a occupied colony world of the empire, a totalitarian puppet government put into place to pacify and subjugate the population.

>Generations have passed; both human and Cybot alike have become familiar, perhaps even comfortable, in their situation. Though humans still occupy the lowest rung of society, in most cases, both races are simply trying to do their jobs and live their lives.

>On first contact, however, a special trait was found to be shared between the two races: a human and Cybot may form a binary link which bonds the two. Through cybernetic modifications, the two may share senses and energy, greatly enhancing their partner's natural abilities. These humans are held in higher regard than unbonded humans, but are seen by many as traitors to their world.

>Players take the role of peacekeepers, stormtroopers, revolutionaries or thugs in this world. Will you maintain the peace found in the iron grip of the Empire, or attempt to buck their tyrannical rule and return Earth to human rule?
>>
>>41319771
Could we get a quick synopsis of what's still needed, rules-wise, from last thread? I recall most of the actual binary binding and MIND RAPE mind control being settled upon because it was either already wholesale available in Bubblegum Crisis or just needed a little tweaking.

Sure.

Most of the stuff we have so far is in the Rules doc; there's some WIP notes at the bottom.

Biggest thing right now I'd say is getting the Frame creation system down; the way I kinda have it mocked up so far is pretty free-form, basically taking two tables and just mapping them where you want them to go; we'd just supply the tables with parts and their Armor/SDP vals.

There's kinda an example in the Frame Sheet to see how it's look. The only thing I'm wondering is if we should go to 18 unit hit tables (3d6, as per the updated Fuzion rules), or 10 (1d10, as the old style used in the first BGC.) Basically, most things in the system use 3d6 as the standard, so I'm leaning towards that.

Other than that, we need:
>flesh out the Human/Cybot Binary Bond mechanics. The framework is there, but for such a central mechanic it needs a little more risk/reward- the Highest stat/skill rule works at low levels, but a high-level Cybot will always have higher stat poinys a human in stat points unless you're intentionally minmaxing. I think the Endurance rule adds a lot, and Crits damaging humans when linked could work too.

>Content! Weapons, skills, Frames, etc. Even ideas we can plug stats into later work.

>we could work on a simple conversion for the MotorWarz stuff over to the Frame format we decide on. It's a little different, but if we do that, that's an entire book of ready-made vehicles for people.

>world building stuff, preferably using those questions from last THREAD to get some fleshed-out details we can just drop into the setting for flavor.

>a simplified character sheet to combine Frame mechanics and Skills/Stats to use for monsters and enemies- primarily so GMs don't have to use two sheets for every minor enemy.

Other than that, people just reading over stuff and adding stuff is the biggest thing. And anyone can edit the documents, too! You might just want to mark your edits for other people to look over, but anyone can tweak, add, or edit.

Working on Frame Generation now in the Rules doc
>>
So what about the Good Guy Cybots? The ones working against the empire?
>>
>>41322264

I'd say they operate as civilian vehicles, or maybe under the guise of shadow companies, doing ops to monitor or destabilize government ops. Maybe openly launching attacks on ships transporting humans offworld to rescue them.

As for motivations, they're probably a part of the Cybot race that opened up to the galactic community at large, perhaps even (accidentally) overtaking them as peacekeepers.

Basically space america,.

So far as Frames go, I think I've got how we can do them:

>provide altmode tables, each with 10 Hit Locations
>choose two altmodes, and pair each part of one mode to a part on the other
>as in the BGC EX Hardsuit creation rules, players roll 10d10 on a table to get points for Armor. They then choose which of their parts to assign each roll to. Repeat with SDP.
>You can also allow straight point-buy; they use a conversion of 1OP=2KD, 1OP=5SDP; we can just multiply those by trn, as their meant for single-Hit Location targets.
>Buy Functions and Subsystems; Functions are generally going to be inherent to modes (simply adding their value to OP cost)

As a bonus, these rules are extremely modular: you could potentially create a Car/Helicopter Cybot, a Dinosaur/Tank, or a Humanoid/Humanoid, if you wanted.

Yeah, looking at the hardsuit rules, you pretty much can modularly add on to robots pretty dynamically. Ties right back into our idea of 'size denotes station' and 'size means space means processing power.'

Something like Volfogg from GGG, I guess; for the early part of the series, a strange police man drives his car around, chasing criminals around the main characters... Until eventually the cop comes to save them, turns out to be a hologram, and the car transforms into a robot ninja.

They're more about disguise and subterfuge. Could even have them parallel IRL men in black; strange humans and/or vehicles that claim to be government agents, but then disappear, and the government has no knowledge of them.

Just think: "black helicopters" really COULD be out there.

Not sure how well X-Files spookery could parallel with BURNING JUSTICE inherent in heroic mechs though.
>>
>>41325021
Small scale mecha-robotics and very intimate (not like that) working relations with human spooks so smaller Cybots work together with humans for rapid deployment and retreating?

Admittedly, that's kinda what you went with with ninja robot. Size it down to motorcycles and it might be more feasible logistically.
>>
>>41324886

Plus total permitted armor/stat boosts/etc. could be a limitation of size classes as well.

One thing I'm trying to do is make sure more complex rules are optional, like Endurance/Energy and stuff. For instance, as an optional rule, there are rules in BGC: Before and After for Cyberware. For Cybots, we could use the "humanity" rules for Subsystems; call it "Capacity" or something, to limit Subsystem getting piled on.

Totally. Just people working outside the boundaries of the corrupt system, trying to do good where they can, while remaining invisible.

Maybe impersonating Imperial officers to question people and stuff.

So if you were playing as an Imperial, you'd have lots of cop missions or battles, RUST would have big battles or Shadowrun style ops, and the good guys would be spy and espionage stuff.

I'll be keeping an eye out for those, then, because it'll totes be a first time I'll be running BGC, and the less I have players hanging up on rules inherent to BGC (doubtful, they played but hated GURPS-based games due to the chargen though that could just be simple unfamiliarity speaking), the more I can just see how the game setting and the houseruling clicks.

Who wants to make some altmodes?

Just take a vehicle, a size class, and add ten hit Locations. Simple!

Humanoid Robot (Small)
Head
R Arm
L Arm
Torso
Torso
Torso
Torso
R Leg
L Leg
[blank]
Functions: Rider (x1)

You can also add modifiers, like x2 if you want to include two or more of a part in one block (half the HP makes that part disabled,) or 0KD, if it has no armor plating (like rubber wheels.) Stuff like this makes you have to strategically place your Armor/SDP points- it'd be a waste to put tons of armor plating on your Wheels/Arms parts if your Wheels are unarmormored in one mode.

You can also make notes on inherent Functions you think it should have, like a tank having armor bonuses or motorbikes with Movement bonuses, or even a built in weapon like a tank's gun or dragon's fire breath. We can stat them out properly later.
>>
>>41325805

Another example:

Motorcycle (Small)
Chassis (Eight Units; if I include them all my post gets flagged as spam)
F Wheel (0KD)
F Wheel (0KD)
B Wheel (0KD)
B Wheel (0KD)
Functions: Rider x1
>>
>>41325805

As for Size Classes, think:

>Small=Motorbike
>Medium=Cars, Lions, Vans
>Large=Trucks, APCs
>Very Large=Planes, Tanks
>Huge=Spaceships
>Massive=Battleships

We can tweak and fix this, or assign weight guidelines. Maybe some kind of special/sci-fi/Latin names for these since they're also social classes

Just the ten hit locations? Honestly, just call out a vehicle and you can basically assign them dynamically. Though that reminds me, shouldn't a driver compartment/cockpit then not be a consideration?

Trucks might have more hit locations over their wheels versus an APC, while APCs might have more structure over wheels.

...Actually I was about to type up
>1-6 chassis
>7-8 front wheels (2)
>9-10 back wheels (4)
for the truck but it technically follows the same division as the standard BGC Silkywagon.

God damn I am already loving this system.
>>
>>41326511

Actually there's a rule for that; the ten locations are rolled for on a 2d12; a natural 12 is hits a critical weak point and ignores armor; I figured when a human is inside, then they get hit.

And yeah, you could do it on-the-fly; I figured pre-alloting them would let us pre-assign Features to individual vehicles, and balance the armor/wheels thing.

Perhaps taking something like an unarmored wheels trait could serve as a Complication to counterbalance OP costs?

I've been looking at statting damage. It seems pretty simple.

Basically, everything in Fuzion is based on 3d6's or 1d10- the idea is that the average roll of d6 is 3.5 (3.5 x 3 = 10.5.)

Damage is in DC; the number of die you roll per attack. Fists are 1d6 + STR, for instance.

Doing a little math, the 2DC Knife deals ~7 Hits of damage average, not counting armor or STR. A 6 DC Colt Pistol deals ~18. So from that, we can scale damage for other things.

And from the Hardsuit tables (which I assumed we could pull Armor/SDP values from,) the average damage a part of a Small Cybot can take is around 42.5 x 2.

This should help us scale stuff. Basically, how much stronger is x than a pistol or Knife? How much damage could a basic Cybot take?

Seriously, wake me up when fall hits.
>>
>>41339498
At the moment, it's pretty barebones, but let's see what we have so far.

>Matryoshkan Empire
The Cybot invaders that conquered Earth per the Matryos doctrine of expansion. The only reason they stopped pretty much wrecking our shit is when they realized they found out humans and Cybots can be linked together into their ancient structures for the process of binary bonding. So the wiping out stopped in favour of maintaining the human population and ruling them via a totalitarian statist government, both pacifying and subjugating the human population. Most of the Imperials just do their day-to-day job, either not giving much a shit about doctrine or even about human subjugation because they've started to grow up with or otherwise get accustomed to humanity. The further up the ranks of the Imperial meritocracy you go, however, the more detached or outright selfishly inconsiderate the Imperial machine becomes with regards to humanity (or most other colony worlds for that matter, I would reckon).

>RUST
Human terrorist organization getting their followers from all walks of life - the simply disenfranchised to the earliest test subjects or last people surviving or otherwise avoiding wholesale population deportation. Their greatest asset comes from their ideological leader's ability to control Cybots. This has expanded into their own technological prowess, basically rigging lobotomised or killed Cybots (called husks) with surveillance and control systems to operate them from the inside without the wetware/hardware interface required for binary bonding. Anything from general rioting to disruptions of information and logistics to outright highly militarised terror attacks all fall under their purview.

Not really fleshed out. Which sucks, because rather than Imperial jobbers, stormtroopers, or peacekeepers, they kinda-sorta are an outside Cybot jursidictive force actually interested in keeping peace and the general well-being of the fringes of the Empire.

...Which is about all we got at the moment, because seriously, how best to flesh them out? Black ops on Earth, technically very much being in their legal right, but still very much opposing the more blatant villainy bullshit the Empire enacts on colony worlds (ie. Earth)?

While it's shitty you got a troll or two thanks to your tenuous connection to WST, it's pretty pompous to blame everything on them. The fact that other worldbuilding threads are alive and thriving on the board tells me that people just plain aren't interested in your project.

And I can see why. The setting is pretty uninspired "asshole tyrannical empire vs freedom loving terrorists" with the twist being "we put girls in power armor and then put them in giant robot girls". There's just not really much going on there to draw people in.

Also, if you don't want people to confuse you for a smut thing you probably shouldn't be posting cropped porn or waifufag about how "Dolores so kawaii uguu~". That's like wearing slutty clothes on a street corner and getting offended when someone thinks you're a prostitute.

Other than that though, what about Cybot energy? What do they eat or fuel up with?
>>
>>41342871

Mostly operating as machines requiring actual fuel and/or energy, ranging from solar-electrical power to running on hydrogen to full-on just guzzling fuel (petrol, bio-alcohols?) for their motor components.

Maybe?
>>
>>41342871
>>41342928

For what it's worth the Transformers' energy source could basically be synthesized from anything, ranging from biological tissue to oil.

Maybe it could work like that? A synthetic fuel extracted from other fuels? Or perhaps it is created through an energy-intensive process?

I do have to wonder where their resources come from, however. I can see Earth getting stripped bare of minerals and fuel pretty fast. Perhaps there's a huge galactic shipping line or supply network for the empire, feeding the colony worlds. You could even have space-trucker Cybots.
>>
So one thing I was thinking about was how construction and actual cities are constructed on occupied Earth.

Basically there's a few hitch points:

For one, Cybots are two things at once, so construction would take both into account. It's an alien concept for us, but the way I see it, both forms are considered "natural" and "at rest," with transformation being like flexing a muscle. What this means is that Cybot would try to always build to take both modes into account. So many shops and businesses are could be structured as drive-throughs, roads would be built in as many places as possible, most surfaces would be paved or concreted over for better mobility. Taller buildings could be constructed like Ziggurats to accommodate fliers inside the cities, since tall close-together buildings would provide them little to no space for their wings.

Most buildings, I'd assume, are squat and wide garagelike structures to accommodate as much floorspace as possible, since it's a world of giants, maybe being a few stories high for each floor. Probably structured like garages too, with ramps going up every floor- imagibe somebody being late for a meeting upstairs, speeding, and causing a three-car pileup on the rampway.

Human buildings in many urban areas would be similar to permit Cybot access, wirh smaller interior structures the size of human buildings. Basically, your office or apartment building would be contained inside an outer shell building. The interiors of these buildings could have "weather" systems for spraying down water (for cleaning), oxygen scrubbers, etc.

Cybot homes, I'd imagine, are like lines of home parking garages or jet hangers, perhaps simply being single large rooms with a door that raises and lowers. Assuming they sleep in their altmode, I can see their being some form of table/bar, perhaps shelves for personal items and equipment, and perhaps some place for sitting and entertaining. Something like Star Trek suites, but wider and flatter.

Thoughts?
>>
File: IMG_9092.jpg (51 KB, 640x320)
51 KB
51 KB JPG
>>41343194

In addition, there is probably a heavy amount of machinery and systems designed to control and maintain earth's climate. Depending on whether the Cybots generate pollution, there could be massive oxygen scrubbing towers cleaning the air- perhaps even doing oxygen conversion if there are no plants available.

Perhaps, since we've established the technology is within their capabilities, they are in the process of building a sphere around the earth, giving them another strata of surface area. Since it's only been a couple generarations they haven't gone all the way yet, but it could be an ongoing project. So in places, perhaps out in the horizon, huge support structures have been raised and they are slowly building outwards, closing off the sky. Construction or structural mishaps like plates falling down could happen occssionally, too.

Perhaps the climate control is only localized, leaving the rest of the planet barren- just blasted desert land, with no Rainmakers to feed into it.

It was brought up that the Cybots are terraforming Earth, but I want to ask why they are doing that. If they do not have to breathe oxygen, why not just set up on the moon and send in a few peacekeepers. I can see the need for a couple of giant buildings, but why kill the Earth?

>The further up the ranks of the Imperial meritocracy you go, however, the more detached or outright selfishly inconsiderate the Imperial machine becomes with regards to humanity (or most other colony worlds for that matter, I would reckon).

That's the best way I've seen that put.

Don't worry about it. It's just a particularly dedicated troll that's been fucking with everyone all weekend.

And Delores is so cute there's no way anyone could blame you.

As for terraforming, I can see a few reasons: it could be simply to make Earth more comfortable or useful to them. After all, they have very different needs than humans, even down to locomotion. Plus there's space.

Maybe they aren't really "terraforming" per se. It could just be the way they build having adverse effects, and the fact that so many live here pushing the earth's ecosystem out, and their government system enforcing housing rules and stuff.

So early into their occupation they could have built one monument building and some political centers, then as new government projects came up they were built to Cybot specs, then Cybots started moving and having services spring up to serve rhem- eventually the scales tip and it's a machine world, not an organic one.

Anon, I don't think you know what concern trolling is. Concern trolling is where you constantly wheedle someone into crashing and burning by pretending to be concerned about the state of their thread.

Saying "maybe you just suck and here's why you might suck" might be trolling, but it ain't concern trolling.
>>
>>41346978

Well, no, but the major systems are.

Here's what we still need:
>statting out items and their costs and stats, like weapons. A lot can just be directly pulled from other sources though with no translation.
>still need to finalize the Bond Uplink rules, including benefits and penalties.
>enemy rules. They're pretty simple though, and should just take a minute

But yeah, that's all for the systems. Now it's just lore and worldbuilding. What we need are ideas guys and writers now.

I can make some beast formers for you:

Beetle (medium)
1 head
2 legs x3
7 body
And you could put weapons on the heads like jaws or a gun

Rhino (large)
2 head
2 legs x2
6 body

Stingray (very large)
1 head
1 body
4 r wing
4 l wing
(Like Depth Charge)

Rat (small)
1 head
2 legs x2
2 torso
4 body
1 tail
>>
>>41348938

Nice- I could see the Manta being a flier.

The Rat's tail being a damage point seems odd though. I think there's actually a Fuzion rule for locational damage having effects. Lemme go check.
>>
>>41348938
>>41349244

Ok, I was wrong. The only things that matter for damage effects are locomotion parts and arms. Torso and Head could conceivably be insta-kills at 0 SDP, but I feel like that'd sort of negate the purpose of Hit. Perhaps just for the head?
>>
>>41349642

The idea of an insta-kill makes my balls shoot into my chest in terror.

Is that an optional rule?
>>
>>41350261

Yeah, it's optional.

I also think I've got Uplinking worked out:
>requires an action to uplink
>does the skill combo thing, and adds +1 to each Combat and Mental skill for each level in Uplink
>can use Rest to restore Cybot Stun with Human Endurance.
>every round both characters must pass a Will + concentration or uplink vs an appropriate Universal Target Number (in ruleset)
>if either fails the link is broken
>>
>>41351212

Looks good. So its just a standard number? What if you had some kind of scaling difficulty, like the amount of time they're connected makes it harder to stay?
>>
>>41351911

Yeah, its a table in the rulebook. I assumed it's just be GM choice; I can't think of a fairer thing to have them roll against since there's no opposing stat or difficulty.

I thought about having a guideline to establish it as a 0 difficulty, and increase it each round of Combat. Or maybe increase each round they take damage in combat? I feel like this part'll come down to testing though.

But short of codifying items and shit we've now got a fully playable game I think.

>>41341736

Basically Cyberpunk dystopian Transformers. We've got like three good short stories in the Drive in the OP you can check out, though, that deal with the setting from different sides.

Bump for a pretty cool thread.
>>
RUST done blew up my tractor. I told 'em it weren't a robut, they ain't listen to me.

I demand government compensation.
>>
>>41357563
Shielding advantages and active measures of defense can be a consideration? We -are- technically dealing with mobile robots/living powersuits.
>>
>>41365217

True, there are already E-Shields and Forcefields started out we can plug in in; they ignore any damage of any DC beneath their strength.

It's funny that what we've made is basically a simplified Mekton Zeta (Fuzion's notoriously complicated Mechs system.)
>>
So I was thinking about our setting, and was wondering how government was structured and worked. I know we decided that it was "totalitarian government," but to what degree?

Thinking back to the class system thing we thought of, we know that humans are the bottom rung, with only humans paired with Cybots being considered citizens, but to what degree? Being able to run for office? Vote? That would mean there were political stations and choice.

I can see it being a really beurocratic, where you always have a direct superior feeding back into the government- even independent businesses are under the umbrella of a government division. Everybody's got a boss at their neck, and every boss is looking to shove stuff off on people, and blaming their boss if somebody below complains.

So maybe you've got Block Governments for regions of towns, then district governments, cities, then provinces, before feeding back into Earthgov, who are under the Empire. Other planets probably work the same way.

Hey, I had a question. What's their anatomy like? The face specifically. Transformers always look like their faces are made of liquid metal or something, but do yours have plates and actuators in the face?
>>
>>41366715
I would imagine actuators to be a big thing, yes. They're still machines, even if their processing components are biologically-inspired hardware blurring the lines with wetware. Otherwise, hinges, pistons, plates and the works.

Maybe only in the recent generation or so did the Cybots start taking after their human subjugated population to mold faces for themselves to facilitate their day-to-day interaction with the Zeroes and Zero-Ones.

>>41366858

I can see that. So less-modern Cybots would have faceplates, visors, monoeyes, and other less Humanoid faces, while the newer ones would be more Humanoid. Maybe they could use some kind of polymer skin attached to small actuators, like modern animatronics.

>>
>>41368821
Well, as far as stats, I've got it so that you generate your Gestalt before playing - so you don't have to calculate shit on the fly.

As for who controls it, you could let the torso player do it, or rotate control each round to let everyone get a turn to play. It's depend on the GM.
>>
So has anybody compiled the worldbuilding stuff for this yet?
>>
>>41370077

Would it be possible for me to play an old man Cybot living off the grid with a winnebago altmode?

Maybe he's a former scientist or soldier or something. I'm not sure how combative this can get eventually.
>>
>>41375927
I dunno, I like the idea of playing off the grid, rebel kinda characters.

Maybe a team of them that use stealth and disguises and stuff to combat and steal from the Empire? Kinda like Shadowrun but with giant robutts.
>>
Cybot seems a bit generic. Is that the human name for them like Transformers or do they have their own name?

Too bad Cybertron is taken though. Cybertron, Cybertronian. Sounds cool.
>>
>>41366858
>>41366715

Not liquid metal but I always imagined Transformer faces to be a soft, movable material. I mean, not everything on them and in them is going to be made of metal. There's going to be tons of flexible materials.
>>
>>41377220
We need a gestalt team called Nerdicons that form Nerdicus.

>"Nerdicons, combine to form Nerdicus!"

This is what I want from this game.
>>
Aww yeah, speaking of gestalts I was going over my idea for my winnebago old guy bot and thought maybe he could be the chest piece for a gestalt team.

>Gruff older bot, a former soldier of the empire. Kind of a combination of Kup and Optimus Prime with a little Big Convoy
>He's got one of those older faces so it's less human with a mouth plate
>Living off the grid for years, no one really knows who he is
>During the story he reunites with his former gestalt teammates, a group of warbuddies (not sure what forms they'd take if they were other players but if npc's it might be like old pick up trucks, motorcycles or something) and they form their combined form for the first time
>Combined forms transformation is so radical he takes on the form of the old Cybot gestalt war hero (A bit Voltron esque) people have heard stories of and everyone realizes who the old bot and his team are
>A bit rusty and out of practice so they have to learn to coordinate as a team again

Was also thinking maybe he used to have a human partner who died and that's why he left or maybe he left but his human partner stayed and bonded with a new bot and the old bot eventually bonds with a new human partner and they face off against each other, old friends now enemies.

>>
>>41325021
This is originally what I THOUGHT Transformers was from just hearing the premise. HAHAHA NOPE

You can make the spooky scarey work with hotblood by going for a Batman-esque hidden protector sort of vibe. They protect the world behind the scenes, anonymously because it is their duty and what must be done.
>>
>>41382943
>There are old men robots and female robots with boob plates in the making already.

>>41383123
Kind of amazing how you go from 790x4096 to literally half that. But should be available for viewing on the Google Drive, perfectly legible.

Trying to come up with some Space Cop scenario for worldbuilding/writefagging, but I'm coming up dry. Probably because I don't play the high stakes, low visibility gameplay of Shadowrun often enough, which some folks seem to think of when going 'spook, covert ops.'
>>
Wait, are people getting mad about a mecha series dating all the way back to the PS2 era?

Is there a naming scheme for the Cybots? The way they are described makes it sound like they'd be named for their jobs, that a John Deere tractor has a more individual name than they do.
>>
>>41391139
Don't think anything like that has been made yet or brought up yet.
>>
>>41391155
I just want to make sure, since it's a whole empire and stuff, that most are purpose made for certain jobs. They do have their own individuality, but they are assigned specific modes and can't really change them easily.

Marvel Heroic Roleplaying is unbalanced as shit, but by God it's still manages to be fun to play if you're not playing with edgelords.
It's simple (and pretty shallow), but it also gives for 'universal system' and a lot more larger-than-life shit not allowed with most rules.

More of it.
This isn't your number-cruncher's dream game.
