"Julie?"
She's sitting at the table with her eyes downcast. A half-filled glass of water sits in front of her.

I sit down across from her.
"Julie, seriously. Can you please tell me what's wrong?"

"I was a monster." Her voice is as low as her expression. " I feel so awful about what I've done, I think I'm still one."

I am Itsukuma Masami. Today was a busy day, but I did it. I got Aiko back from her mother! Her mother, though stubborn and extremely difficult to reason with, did eventually see how silly it was to take her daughter off to the mountains based on a fear that she wasn't even sure was going to come to pass. She did this mostly because she felt Asai was enough of a threat. Besides, I'm going to be the one to deal with Asai.

Now it's late, everyone is about to go to sleep for the last day tomorrow before we go confront Asai. Except Julie, for some reason she decided to stay up and mope about something or another.
I wonder if it's related to that thing that she really, really, really didn't want to tell Mom earlier.

"Julie." I use that light scolding voice that Mom sometimes uses. "You're not like that now. Please don't worry about things that happened a long time ago."
"No! You don't understand!" She snaps back, "I'm a terrible person!"

"Julie!" My voice is even more stern this time, "I don't think you're a bad person! Isn't that enough?"
"That doesn't change the things I've done or who I used to be!"

"What ARE the things you've done, Julie?" I pout, "I don't think they're as bad as you're making it seem."

"NO! They're, I-"

Her eyes meet the table again.
"I don't want to talk about it."

>"I think you SHOULD talk about it. If not with Mom then with me."
>"There is nothing you can say that will make me think less of you, Julie.
>"Then take your time."
>Say nothing.

"Julie." I soften my voice this time, I don't want to scare her. "There is nothing you can say that will make me think less of you."
"Masami, but-"

"Nothing, Julie. You're my sister now, and that's what sisters do for each other."

She stays silent.
"Then take your time, I'll be here whenever you're ready."

Julie picks up the glass in front of her and takes a drink. I keep staring into her eyes.
I can't picture what she could have possibly done to make herself feel so guilty.

"I think you should tell someone eventually, Julie." I frown, "if not Mom, or I, at least you could tell Haruko. Right?"
"No! Absolutely not!"

"I thought you two were like, twins."

"No, well, sorta. It's complicated."

We sit in more awkward silence as Julie stares at the table some more.
I take the initiative to stand up and go sit next to her. It's the least I can do if I'm going to be trying to pry secrets from her.

She looks up at me as I sit down, then she adjusts her voice.
"What if I told you that I think I'm the reason Asai had so many drones?"

"Nothing you can say will make me think less of you." I grasp her hand.

Julie still looks sad, but she continues.
"I terrified, many people." She pauses, "I may have also ruined a lot of people's days."

"Okay?" I pout. "It's fine."

"Don't you at least want to know why I did it?"

>"No, that's not you anymore."
>"Only if it doesn't disturb you to think about it."
>"Okay, tell me."
>"What is your history with Fortune?"

"Okay, Julie." I pat her on the shoulder, "Tell me why."
Julie looks up, her eyes are reddened and her cheeks are getting puffy.
"Really?"

"Yes, please sis. Tell me why. I won't judge you for anything."

It's probably something silly like scaring people because Asai told her to. I highly doubt anything was her fault.

She takes a big, deep breath. Then she starts.
"All I ever did there was scare people and make people miserable, but that's because Asai was stealing people's fear to make drones. And the only power I ever had was terrifying people so I went out into town and scared people to take their feelings but that's the only power-I-had-and-everyone-else-gets-cool-powers-like-Haruko-and-Kaori-but-I-just-have-this-freaky-power-that-lets-me-take-myself-apart-and-it's-really-scary-and-I-keep-thinking-I'm-going-to-scare-everyone-and-I-asked-Asai-why-I'm-the-onlyOneWhoCanDoThatAndIDidn'tKnowWhyButAsaiLaughedAndToldMeICouldTeleportPartsOfMyBodyTooAndI'mScaredToTryAndWhenIASKEDWHYICANDOTHATHESAIDTHATICAMEFROMASPACEROCKANDITHINKHEWASJOKINGBUTI'MNOTSUREANDIT'SJUSTNOTFAIR"

She lunges forward and starts crying into my pajamas.
"It's just not fair, why is the only thing I'm good at scaring people, it's just not-it's not fair."

"Is everything okay?" Says a new voice.
You look up to see the former secretary of Fortune, now human. She hasn't decided where she wants to live just yet, so she's crashing here with Mom until she decides.

"Yeah, we're just-"
It's hard to lie to her when Julie is crying into my shoulder.
"We're okay."

"Well, okay then." She starts to go back to her futon. "By the way, my only power is sorting papers and taking calls. So she's really lucky to have something that's really cool."

>"Julie, see? It's fine!"
>"Tell us more about it, I think Julie needs to think about something else."
>"You're not a monster Julie, everyone at Fortune was a monster."

"Wait wait! Hold on! Don't go!" I flag her down just before she steps out of the room.
"Tell us more about it, I think Julie needs to think about something else for a few minutes."

She seems annoyed about having to stay up, but she obliges and comes over. She sits across from us and eyes the sobbing Julie.
"Listen, Asai used all of us. You don't have to feel bad just because he used your powers for wrong."
"I- dont. I- don't." Julie continues to sob.

"So um!" I try to change the subject, "You say your power is what again?"

"Oh, it's really nothing much. It's just stuff that was useful for a secretary. I have some defensive stuff but."
"Why don't you show us then!" I happily blurt out. Julie calms down at me making a ruckus.

The secretary stands up and walks across the room, she takes a big stack of papers out of a shelf and flops them onto the table.
"Take a paper from this stack." She commands.
I reach over and slowly wiggle out a sheet from the center of the stack.

"That's Izumi's receipt for changing the oil on her car. And they overcharged her quite a bit, too."
That I find ridiculous. I just laid my hand on it.

I turn it over.
"How did you-"
She smiles, and leans back.
"Tell me anything you want to find inside of this stack of papers, and I'll find it."

"Uh, okay. How about 'Masami'?"

The secretary reaches into the stack, and pulls out a single sheet of notebook paper.
It's a crudely drawn picture of Mom and me, at the beach. It's been torn out of a notebook.

"A drawing of Izumi? That's cute." She says, looking at it.
"HEY HOW DID YO-" I stop myself. "I mean, how did you do that? Where did that come from?"

Julie has stopped crying now, instead she reaches across the table.
"Can I see that?"
"NO!" I snatch the paper away.

The secretary giggles, I have a very angry pout on my face.
Then I remember, Julie isn't crying anymore!

"Are you feeling better, Julie?" I throw the piece of paper under my chair.
"I-I think so, but." Her face is reddened, and eyes are puffy.

"There's no reason to feel bad, Julie. Look! Your power is cool! It's not scary."
"It's really scary, though!"

"Listen, isn't it only scary if you make it that way?"
"Uh."

"Then don't make it scary!"
"How am I supposed to make ripping off parts of my own body NOT SCARY!?"

That's a good question, and one that I hadn't thought about before I asked her about this problem.
"Well, you said you have other powers, right? Want to try them? It'll just be me and you!"

"Good." The girl across the table sighs, "I'm getting tired. I'll see you two in the morning."

I don't let that slow me down, I keep my eyes intently focused on Julie.
"Listen, maybe you'll feel better about your powers if you try them out some?"

She looks sad all of the sudden.
"I'm not sure I want to."
"It'll be fine Julie! I'm here! I only got scared by them once!"

Julie grabs my hand, and gently shivers.
"Okay. I'll try them. Just for you."
"Great!"

>Show me everything you can do, I want to know all of it
>No no, that might be bad, let's just see the ones you're comfortable with.

"Well, to start. Let's not do anything that might be too much. You know. I don't want to strain you."

That's what I'm going to say. I'm not going to tell her that I'm afraid of jumping out of my own skin like the first time she 'showed' me her powers.

"I think that's a good idea." Julie smiles.

She stands up, and slowly starts to focus.
A blue aura, the same aura I've always known Julie for, sprays from her fingertips. It envelopes the papers and starts flipping through them rapidly.

"That's great, Julie!" I smile.
"It's not much but-"
"No! Really. That's more than enough."

"But I didn't even get to show you all my powers."
"Well, um, okay."

Why do I feel myself trembling slightly?

Gently, Julie reaches for her glass of water and taps it. Then she moves her hand away.
The cup of water, it's starting to float off the table.
"T-that's great too!" I clap my hands together, "I don't see why you think these powers are scary!"
"I'm not done yet."

Now is the part that I really didn't want her to do.
She reaches up to her face, and with a gentle tug, pulls her entire face off.

Then, oh this is the part I haven't seen before. She puts it inside of the water.
Her face is in the water now. It's looking back at me.
"S-so, what do you think?"

Oh no, the sound came from the water.
My hands instinctively clamp over my mouth to keep from screaming. She fishes her face out of the water.
"I knew you would hate it."

"I don't hate it!" I exclaim, "It's just... surprising that's all."

She frowns, "I found that I could do the same with my whole head. What kind of power is that, who would want to remove their head?"
I grab her hand, "Julie, let's talk to Mom about this in the morning. Will you?"

Julie hesitates, but softly squeaks, "Yes. We'll do that."

We head down the hallway and turn off the lights. Inside, our sisters are already fast asleep.

Also, Kaori has torn off all of her clothes. We'll need to talk to Mom about that, too.

Thanks everyone for the thread, sorry it was short and we didn't really seem to get anywhere.

But hey! You got to meet Julie. I hope she came across the way I was intending for her to. Maybe you'll find out about more of her abilities when she speaks with Mom.

Thanks for the thread everyone, let me know what you thought.

Lewd.

Even when the plot is done, I still want to still hang around getting to know everyone and engaging in pure SoL shenanigans, if just for a little while.

Are you referring to when Masami had just been born, had no idea what was going on, and was trying to run away from a monster chasing her?
>>
>>41315586
Yes.

I know it would have scared her if the monster said hello. That's irrelevant. Masami a cute.
