>You are a villager girl named Ellen from a small village in the nation of Neir, on the continent of Teege. As a member of the local militia/guard, you were trained in swordplay. Your fighting style is best compared to the mercenary class, though technically you're currently a sword-using trainee/villager class that can become one.

>After eliminating a group of bandits that destroyed your hometown, you and the fellow survivors of the incident have decided to stick with Prince Garrus for the time being.

>The questmasters are Octoling (myself), and Grandflaw. There's no particular rhyme or reason to who posts when, and sometimes one of us might not appear at all.

>Character Death is always a possibility (this is Fire Emblem after all), but your actions can very easily influence who lives and who dies.

>Voting periods will last an average of fifteen minutes, but this may be increased, decreased, or generally changed at any given moment based on voter turnout.

You rub your eyes, realizing that maybe spending so much time listening to Quidel's history lesson wasn't such a good idea. He seems to have appreciated it greatly however, judging by the note.

At the very least you woke up before Yvette would've been tempted to scream at you aswell, and you prepare for your march towards the capital.

You leave the tent, and before long everyone is assembled and prepared to begin the long trip towards Rakche. Natalie steps towards you, and you both exchange a "good morning."

She asks "Did you sleep well?", and though her expression and voice seem to lack concern as per usual, you figure she must have noticed your groggier-than-usual nature and wanted to make sure you're okay.

"I'll live," you say with resignation.

"Breakfast starts in... Ten minutes or so, and after that Yvette is probably going to push for us to get a move on."

Forsaking any sort of typical morning routine, you simply join Natalie in heading for a large, very central tent, inside of which most guard-wide meetings are held, including meals.

As an aside, how do you normally eat?

>A. Voraciously. You'll eat anything and everything.

You weren't raised to be a picky eater. Training under Gorman kicked any possibility of that to the curb for yourself and Lambert, as part of your missing mentor's general philosophy of living a balanced, strong lifestyle. Of course, "balanced and strong" translates into piling on as much meat as you're allowed whenever the opportunity arrives.

Coupled with sometimes forgetting to eat when not reminded to, you'd probably suck down a Wyvern's worth of soup if the broth was toxic when you're hungry enough. You also eat with the ravenousness of a horde of monsters.

Natalie doesn't really acknowledge this from next to you, but from another table Robert chortles and exclaims, "hey, the beast is feeding!"

The only people to look are an exasperated-looking Jay (whose gaze soon shifts towards Robert with displeasure), a challenged-looking Cheryl (with a similarly disproportionately large amount of food), Yvette, who quickly shoots a glare of her own at Robert, and Stefyn, who's barely picked at his own meal.

You put on a little show for your least favorite living person by staring him down, sharp teeth biting through the biggest piece of meat still standing on your plate.

It's a bit juicy.

Stefyn takes his food and leaves the tent. Mitchell looks disapprovingly in your general direction before doing the same.

Natalie doesn't respond for a little bit, finally answering with, "I'm not certain what I'd like to do with my life, but... If it means helping any of you when you're hurt, I. Will probably try to stay with the personal guard."

There's a moment of silence. She's probably still shaken about her staves being insufficient to help Lambert mere days ago.

After breakfast the entire camp is packed away, people's extras stored in supply convoys.

Garrus speaks to the camp as they're about to depart. "Well, it's a bit of a long trip, so don't feel bad if you get fatigued on the way through."

Yvette, on the other hand, is stern, telling everyone able to fight that, in no uncertain terms, they must be ever-vigilant even with the bandits that terrorized Tarvos valley eliminated. That if they can't handle the possibility of attack at ANY moment in ANY place, they aren't fit to protect the prince.

Garrus gets a bit flustered, but doesn't have any real response to Yvette's own words. Robert makes a sound resembling a whipcrack, but luckily for his sake, all he suffers for it is another pair of nasty looks from his friend and the paladin.

>A. Heed Yvette's words, gazing at everything you pass in the valley with vigilance.

Yvette is right. You have to keep your eyes peeled for anything and everything if you hope to become part of the personal guard.

However, your sleep-deprived mind has a bit of trouble actually focusing, so instead you wind up spending much of your time just stopping and staring at one particular piece of foliage or another.

Eventually, however, you think this pays off, noticing a lone figure standing off in the distance. They are obscured by very plain-looking robes.

"Alright," he says, "but be careful. There are many things in this world that no one can expect. I'll be watching you just in case."

You nod and walk towards the robed figure, resting your hand on your sword's handle just in case the worst should come.

"Um, excuse me," the figure is unresponsive and turned away from you.

You draw closer still, close enough to see that the figure appears to be making several signs with their hands and fingers. Strands of blond hair are visible peeking out from the figure's hood at this range.

Right, they're probably just signing something and legitimately COULDN'T notice you speak without a sense of hearing. You have no way of knowing what they're saying, though.

This person is clearly related to something that physically weakens you the closer you get to them, and you keep this in mind, still clutching your sword's handle just in case, and tap them on the shoulder.

Upon your touch, however, the figure jumps up in surprise and turns around. By then, however, your proximity to this person has culminated in you collapsing in front of them, lying on the ground after your free hand quickly gave out. You feel increasingly short of breath.

They vanish in a bright flash. You presume they signed some other spell to become scarce.

You can feel your energy start to return and breathe heavily, clutching the grass.

You catch your breath on the grass below you, getting up once you feel you've regained enough strength to keep walking.

As soon as you've gotten up, however, you're greeted with a terrifying sight.

It looks somewhat like a wyvern, or at least what you've heard a wyvern should look like, but... much of its face is outright missing, and what's there is covered in rotting scales.

Connecting its head to a similarly-decaying body is a malformed neck, under which gray, rotten viscera are visible in some spots.

The body itself is also very patchy. The creature has four legs and a tail, but one of the frontmost legs is a spindly, flimsy excuse for a limb.

The creature's tail is long and bony.

Most pressingly, however, the smell of rotting corpses fills the air as the creature takes a pained breath. Some sort of magical aura fills its incomplete mouth.

It's easy to tell that it would mean trouble if you were caught in this thing's breath, most likely death. Thus, you leap out of the way immediately.

It unleashes some sort of controlled, dark cloud with the intensity of a geyser, and the particular section of grass you were laying on mere moments ago curls and dies.

You briefly wonder why Quidel hasn't done anything about any of this.

You immediately turn tail and speed back to the group, only to find a pretty effective answer for why Quidel wasn't helping you.

Three more of those things, each in various states of decay and none of whom looking complete, are attacking the rest of the party from various sides. One, which has no functional legs and whose leg-bones are all snapped, presumably from the pressure of standing on them, has a fully-functional pair of wings. Stefyn, Quidel, Mitchell, and Cheryl are giving that one special attention.

One with fully-formed legs and an apparent inability to use the others' breath attack is doing battle with Biff, Byron, Robert, and Jay.

One is very bulky, with legs that can only support it enough for the slowest of movements. However, the rest of it seems fully-formed. The farmhand (wielding a steel lance), Garrus, and Yvette are facing that one, with Natalie closer to it than any of the other four.

Trusting your allies to handle the other monstrosities, you dedicate all of your focus for the moment towards the dragon in front of you, and easily avoid the dracozombie's attack.

You then head towards its highly incomplete leg, nearly completely destroying it with a single strike of your sword. The undead beast yells in some horrible mockery of pain, losing its balance and stumbling for a moment.

Not wanting to take chances with this beast, you immediately attack from the side, attempting to behead it in one swift motion.

It doesn't work.

You attack the creature's neck, and for a moment you believe you'll have no hard time beheading it, but are surprised when it suddenly stops roughly halfway through. The creature makes another horrifying noise before beginning to topple over. This attack in addition to its missing leg must have been enough to make it lose all its balance.

You attempt to simply pull your sword out and try again, but find that its rather wedged in there, and would require a lot more force to pull out. Meanwhile, the creature manages to slowly turn its head towards you, and begins to open its mouth.

You put forth as much of your strength as you can summon, confident that you can push your sword all the way through this thing before it charges up another shot of its ungodly breath.

You only realize what the lack of a magical aura around its mouth means for what it planned to do with its open mouth when its gross excuses for fangs sink into your unoccupied arm. It wasn't trying to use its breath on you at all.

Even in its weakened state, you can feel your relatively light armor struggling to hold against this creature's powerful jawbones.

You don't think you'd be able to pull your arm out in time, so you focus all of your strength into pushing your sword through the monster's neck.

Pretty much all of the tension against your sword hand dissipates as you finish the job, immediately and successfully jerking your trapped arm out of the undead maw.

The beast doesn't move again.

You take a moment to sigh in relief as you look at the bloody, closed mouth of the-

You steel yourself now, deciding to head back to the others and see if they need help immediately.

Well, almost immediately. Some juvenile urge in your brain convinces you to stick a particular remaining finger up at the felled lich.

Then you head back as fast as you possibly can, putting literally all of your focus on the fights before you.

You briefly catch sight of Quidel and Mitchell chasing after the flying one, which looks like it's sustained a lot of damage from their arrows. Cheryl is shouting "DEATH FROM ABOOOOOVE" to distract it whenever it tries to aim its breath towards the ground, occasionally poking at it with her lance.

The breathless one is having circles run around it by both dynamic duos, and will most likely be dead(er) soon.

The bulky, slow-moving one, however, is causing troubles all of its own. You can make out the form of Yvette lying on the ground, struggling to push herself up. The farmhand is on its back, desperately trying to pull his lance out of its neck. It shakes him off, sending him flying and hitting the ground. Garrus stands between it and Natalie, who is perpetually waving her staff at Yvette's form. You can't see the expression on his face, but he appears to be shaking (or the blood loss has left your vision shaky. Maybe both), wielding his Regal Axe and refusing to let the monster through.

You're only able to stay active by holding onto one thing: making certain that, whatever these things are, they cannot harm anyone else. With zero regard to safety or strategy, you rush to the prince's aid, swinging your sword in a crazed frenzy as you get closer to the thing.

Garrus can hardly contain his surprise at your appearance, "E-Ellen! What are you-"

>A. Ignore all distractions. Keep attacking the bulky Dracozombie
>B. Tell him to use his axe on a weak spot in the monster's neck.
>C. Tell him to get Yvette and Natalie out of here

"Look! For! A! Weak! Spot! In! Its! Neck!" Every word is punctuated by another quick slash into the bulky beast.

Garrus gulps, "r-right!"

You don't even acknowledge the fact that the Dracozombie's mouth has begun to take on a sort of familiar magical aura, its attention focused directly on you.

Someone (who your pain and adrenaline-addled mind doesn't care enough to consciously identify in the heat of the moment) tackles you out of the way instants before the breath brings about a terrible fate, and as you fall to the ground on your back, your vision and consciousness begin to fade.

You can make out the figure of Garrus leaping up and swinging his axe, beheading the bulky dragon, and the mockeries of pained sounds of the other two, before you lose any last fleeting ability to remain conscious.

You awaken to an unfamiliar ceiling. Two figures, whose visages you can't quite make out, stand at the edge of wherever you're lying.

"Oh, joyous occasion, she's finally awoken!"

"Keep your voice down. Other people are still trying not to die here."

The voice coming from the left, whose figure is shorter than the other's, gets closer along with its owner, "everyone was worried you wouldn't wake again, but I always knew!"

>A. Punch the owner of the voice.

You immediately find yourself throwing your fist in the general direction of the left voice's face.

He covers his face, making muffled pain noises. The taller, rightmost figure sighs.

Somewhere to your right, a familiar monotone voice states, "you've got to stop meeting like this."

Trying to readjust to being awake, you rub your eyes... Noticing that your right hand is missing two fingers.

When you put your hands back away, you sit up and get a good look at the people in the room.

Biff is the one clutching his face in pain, Byron next to him. To your right, Natalie is sitting. In a truly uncommon sight, she's... smiling.

Figuring you have some questions, Byron speaks to you while Biff says something about staves to Nat.

"You've been unconscious for nearly a week since those stunts back in Tarvos Valley. Even with an undeveloped Dracozombie, taking one on yourself is tantamount to suicide. Then to rush right into one right after?"

Everything comes back to you at once. The deaf signing sorcerer, the dragons, losing your fingers to one.

"...we're all absolutely relieved and happy you're alive, but what were you thinking?"

>A. I wasn't going to let them hurt anyone else.
>B. I... I wasn't.
>C. I'm hungry.

"I was thinking... I'm kind of hungry."

Byron sighs, knowing you know that's not what he meant, but unable to help but grin despite himself.

"Biff, so long as you and Natalie are going to heal your most recent facial injury, could you find some food for Ellen here?"

"Rrght aw'y," Biff says before grabbing his face again. Natalie gets up, pats his back reassuringly, and the pair walks out of the room.

"Was anyone else hurt? I-I remember Yvette, and that farmhand, and-"

"Both Reese and Lady Yvette are made of quite strong... stuff. Yvette's not as much the pinnacle of health after that, but she is already still kicking. The other one made a full recovery as well."

"But... earlier you mentioned something about other people trying not to die."

"Well, you are in a hospital."

Oh. You feel like you should've pieced that together sooner.

"I am still wondering something... Well, a few things. First off, that... deaf sorcerer... Necromancer?"

"Only you and Quidel saw him, and him only from afar. In fact, I'm certain that King Drasma and Lady Yvette would both love to hear about it in detail when you're feeling well enough."

You nod.

"And your next question?"

A look of uncertainty washes over your face, "who tackled me out of the way of the breath of the... Dracozombie, that's what it was called?"

He nods before responding, "I wish I could tell you, but I wasn't exactly watching at that time. Biff and I had our own Dracozombie to help take down."

You ask him what you've missed while you've been out.

"Well, we reached Rakche a couple days after the Dracozombie attack. It's said King Drasma was pleased to hear that the Johalva were eliminated, but also troubled by... you know."

You nod.

"Aside from that, our respective friends have apparently entered into the realm of courtship in the time since we've arrived in town. I just found out this morning."

You blink. "So you're saying that... Biff and Natalie are..."

Byron nods. "I sincerely hope he doesn't somehow ruin it."

>A. You're happy for them
>B. You don't know what to think about that
>C. What's this about King Drasma?
>D. When can I leave?

>>
>>41317828
You feel happy for Biff and Nat, but that's really all there is to say on the matter. You ask Byron when you can leave.

"They'll likely just need to determine that you're able to go about on your own. It should be able to be wrapped up before the end of the day."

A short while later, Biff (nose newly unbroken) and Natalie (carrying a decent amount of food) return, and mere hours later you're out of the hospital. Apparently sometimes you may experience phantom pains in your no-longer-present fingers, but that's hardly a big deal.

Byron offers to escort you to the royal castle. Apparently, your audience with King Drasma was to take place "as soon as you were out of the hospital," considering the potential urgency of the information involved.
