The year is 2089, and on the surface, this world seems just the same as ours. If you look more closely though, you will find psychics, mages, mythological monsters and more, all hidden from the general populace.
You are an agent of the Order of the Magus Hunters, the organisation keeping this secret from the rest of the world. They are troubleshooters, police, military and assassins all in one, and all so that the world can be safe.

The options are a guideline, not an absolute, which is why I will always include a Write in option. I may occasionally forget to add it but feel free to do so anyway. Some options I list are good, some are bad, most won’t be really awesome. I leave it up to you to find ways to do that.
Also feel free to ask things if they’re not entirely clear. I reserve the right to dodge the issue if it’s done for plot reasons, but otherwise I’ll gladly provide more information.
>>
You are the Void. It does not matter what your creator called you. You are the Void. And just a few hours ago, you have warned your… Opponent? Nemesis? Target? You are still new to this language, and you care little for it. Companion, you decide. He might not know it but You are always close to him, and go where he goes. That makes you companions.

You are holding a creature in your hands. Not ‘human’ like your companion, but similar. Slightly larger, pointier teeth, pointier fingers, no strange bush on its head. You forgot the term. But it’s struggling. Ripping into what it would think to be your ‘flesh’, despite it simply gathering up and restoring itself with no harm done.

It’s a curious creature though. As you understand it, its creator has been destroyed by your companion, and it wants… What was the term again? ‘Vengeance’. An odd concept to you. It had been approaching the living place of your companion with two others, but you thought it would be interesting enough to intervene. Start taking a more active role in this curious relationship you have. And thus, you are holding it in your hands. You’ve studied everything there is about it. How its body works, how its mind works. What its mind contains even. Pictures of dead humans, mostly, but also other, more interesting things.

As you think about what you’ve seen in the beings head, you notice it starts looking in one direction. Its panicked scratching at you becomes more frantic as it glances to that same direction more and more often. Eventually, it stops.
>>
“Please, magus, let me go. I will do whatever you desire.”

You blink in surprise. A moment after, you’re even more surprised by the fact you had an involuntary reaction to the events. The being looks at you pleadingly now, no longer attacking blindly. It looks… ‘Afraid’, you think the word is. You don’t think you have seen this emotion before.

>1. Let it go.
>2. Keep holding it. Whatever it is so afraid of will be here soon.
>3. Kill it.
>4. End it.

You think of your options at first, but your curiosity wins eventually. You were sent here to learn of your companion, and this would mean learning of his enemies. You simply hold it as it is, and when it realises you’re not going to let it go, the creature starts tearing into you again.

It takes a while, but you see the large ball of fire the planet orbits around start shining in the distance. Hmm, there must be a better word for that, you should seek to learn it.

Your thoughts are interrupted by the vampire screeching harder than before. Its skin is starting to blister, and it looks away from the light source, holding its arms between it and himself. They’re the first to start falling apart. Curiously, you examine the way the creature starts rapidly burning and falling apart. Its eyes melt away, its jaw unhinges due to the muscles evaporating.

Soon, there’s nothing but a pile of bones left over. Most curious indeed. Perhaps the key to understanding your companion is by learning more of his enemies? Or perhaps you should stick to what you have done so far and stay by his side. You doubt there is that much to learn left, but he might surprise you. He’s done so before.

You decide to stay with him. His enemies will come to him, or he will seek out his enemies. That way you can examine them all at once, and even their interactions.

You take a certain… ‘Joy’ out of your work. You do not think your creator ever experienced such a thing. The closest thing the beings on this world have that your creator have are hunger.

-

You wake up, go through your morning routine, and find the window slightly ajar, with Wooster having no memory of it happening. Is it toying with you? You’re not sure what this thing can and cannot feel, being an alien abomination from a different dimension.

Breakfast is more excited than normal. You think a few people are really glad to be alive after tonight. You’re midway through your unhealthy English Breakfast (TM) when you get a call from Lilliana.

“Weston, I heard about the attack, is everyone ok?”

You get away from the table and start heading to your office, signalling to the rest of the team. “Everyone is fine. A bit shaken up, but we didn’t even have wounded.”

“Then you’re luckier than Ridley’s squad.” Oh shit yeah, you forgot to call her back. You hope she’s not stressing out about you being dead now. You should give her a call later. “They have one dead and most of them are wounded.”

“Are any of the wounded still in danger?” You ask.

“Castor was critical but according to the latest news he’s stabilised. They told me his other half got slain and it gives him a tremendous shock and it takes time before he can manifest him again. The rest of them weren’t hurt seriously enough to be in any danger, but York will have to learn how to write left-handed.”

“Were there any other attacks aside from the two of us?”

“No, thank god. It does prove that facilities we thought secure are anything but. We’ve gotten orders to withdraw all people in outposts of your kind to city HQ’s. Your position is of too much importance thanks to your little magical circle to be affected by those orders though. I was asking to get more funds sent your way when I heard the Arch Magus was personally ‘taking care’ of your case. I hope that’s positive.

You smile. “Oh, yes it is. He’s promised me a raise and he’ll be coming by soon to put some spells on the mansion to protect it.” You voices goes down a notch for your next question though.

“Who died?”

Lilliana sighs. “Saunders. They say he charged a vampire about to suck York dry. Saved that girl and died for it.”

Silence hangs in the air between you for a moment, but you break it with a change of topic. “There’s one curious thing about this though. I was woken up by the Entity. It warned me of the attack.”

“That… Is curious. Any idea why?”

“Well, I think it might just not want to lose its research subject until it knows everything.”

“Hmm. Still, best be on your guard. That’ll be all for now, Weston.”

“Wait, there’s something else. I suppose it’s related to the Entity anyway.” You take a deep breath for the bomb you’re about to drop on her, most likely. “I can go into vampire’s minds unscathed. I mindripped two of the vampires that attacked us.”

You can almost hear her do a double take. “You… WHAT? WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU EVEN TRY THAT WESTON?”

“I didn’t know.”

“Don’t give me that crap. You were trained by the single most famous vampire of the current age. Don’t tell me he never told you that.”

“Honestly? He never did. I’m planning on having a word with him about that soon.”

“I’ll be in line. Training our next generation of Vindicators and not bloody… Anyway, one, you’re sure you’re not affected in any way, and two, what did you learn?”

“In order, yes I triple checked, and a lot of things.”

You tell her of the places you found out about and of the memories you visited. “So their alliance with this ‘Ewout De Vlieger’. Name sounds foreign, and so did he.”

“Dutch.” Lilliana says. “Though I can’t say I’ve heard of him before. Any idea just how long ago that memory was?”

You don’t, and tell her as much. Something between ten and a hundred years ago for all you know. Though Inara vamps don’t tend to live that long without some serious promotion in their own rank, since they’re the most hunted kind of vampires.

“I’ll pass on the information, but expect the other branches to be very interested in you again. Maybe they’ll even drop by uninvited again.”

“Ugh, another family visit. Last thing I need right now.” You say jokingly.

“Oh, that reminds me, your mother seemed really worried about you, despite her best attempts to not show her. I’ll pass along that you’re fine, but it might put her at ease if you call her too.”

Calling it is.
>>
With that call over, you quickly tell your team to do whatever they please, and you go back into your office. A few presses of the button later and your call is going through.

“Weston, did you find anything? Or is this about the Arch Magus?”

So he doesn’t know about the attacks yet. This is going to taste that much sweeter then.

“I mindrripped two Inara vampires.” Oh, if only you were there in person. The look on his face would have been enough to make your week. You imagine that if he breathed he’d be choking in it right now.

“DIDN’T THOSE FOOLS OF THE ACADEMY EVER TELL YOU NOT TO DO THAT? Oh there goes my prize student, lost to brain damage through Order stupidity. You’d think they’d be smart enough to give their psychic students some basic safety warnings. Like a nice little colouring book perhaps, with labels of ‘don’t mindread this. It will kill you.’ What’s next, are you going to try and read Abyssal’s minds next? Heck, go to the Fae courts, try and mindread the Queens!”

He falls silent. “You finished?”

“How can you be so calm about this? How bad is it? Last one I saw that did this stupid shit was comatose for the rest of his life, but obviously it’s not that bad with you.”

“I’m fine.”

He laughs. “My, the damage is still serious then if you think you’re fine. You’re not, you moron, you went into the mind of something so alien to you that it severely damaged your own.”

“No, I really am fine. I got checked three times, twice by my sentient house and once very thoroughly by my resident Oculus agent. No damage at all.” He falls silent again.
>>
“That does remind me,” you continue, “If it’s that dangerous, why didn’t you ever tell me?”

“I assumed it was basic knowledge they taught all newly accepted Psychics. It’s called the Academy for a reason, they teach basic knowledge and skills there. They teach basic gun safety, so one would assume they also teach basic telepathy safety.”

He has a point there, you never got taught that in the Academy either.

“What was it like?” He asks. He’s trying to hide it, but you can tell he’s incredibly curious.

“Strange. Nothing fit where it should have. Took me a while to find out how it all worked. I suppose I can see why people have difficulties with it.”

“What did you find out?”

“A lot of things.” You tell him the tale as you did with Lilliana, and he interrupts you a few times to ask for clarification or specifics, which sometimes you can give him, sometimes you can’t.

“And Mordred? He’s here, in the UK?”

“I think so yeah. No idea where exactly, but close enough to London even.”

“That’s bad. I would prefer to not face him again.”

“You fought against him before?” You cut in.

“I did, once. Second time I lost my arm, and I barely escaped alive. Most of the rest of the team wasn’t as lucky. He’s incredibly fast, incredibly durable, and worst of all he’s hardly hindered by UV light. I saw him walk under the sun that day.” The residual terror is still apparent in your mentor’s voice. Whatever happened that day shook him to the core.

“But what done is done. Just one word of advice for you. If you ever come to face him, run. Run as fast as you can and don’t stop until you’re with someone of the Arch Magus’ calibre. You might even get half-way there if he lets you.”

“There was also a Dutch guy, named Ewout De Vlieger. Ring any bells?” You tell him about the meeting with the Lord

“Hmmm, can’t say it does. And he’s involved with the Inara’s, specifically to go against the Order? Most curious. I will look into this myself.”

“One more thing. I’m sure you’ve heard of the magic circle stuff at my house?” You wait for a moment and you hear an affirmative ‘’mhm-mhm. “Well, the Arch Magus knows Tobias Patterson personally. Do you?”

“Oh no. But from what I’ve heard of the entire situation I wish I did. I’m not a very powerful magus, but such things do interest me quite a lot.”

With that finished, you exchange goodbye’s and lay in the call. Time for family obligations, you suppose.

“Hello mom.” You figure you can get away with some familiarity since she was worried sick about you.

“Michael, oh thank god, are you alright?”

“I’m fine mom, no one even got hurt in the attack. We took down nine gunmen and five vampires. Wasn’t easy but we had our place defended with a lot of traps and enchantments already.”

She breathes a sigh of relief. “That’s good. That’s good.” She hesitates for a moment. “Look, Michael, I know we haven’t always been there when you had it tough, but your father and I really do love you.”

“I love you too. But he doesn’t exactly show it…”

“I know he’s… Distant, but he does.”

“Mom, he flat out commanded me around and threatened to take my house away from me. Now if that’s what he does to people he love, I don’t really want to know what he does to his enemies.”

Your mother groans. “Urgh, I told him going to you was a bad idea. But he was so determined to get his hands on that circle. I’m sorry Michael, he would have done that to anyone.”

“That’s the thing. Not even a ‘hello son how you doing’. All just ‘vindicator weston this, mr weston that’. Like I was just another of his lackeys to order around!” You notice you’re breathing heavily. It was quite an outburst, you suddenly realise, and you’re about to apologise when your mom starts talking.

“I’m sorry Michael. He wasn’t always like this. I think he’d gotten it into his head that he was supposed to act in a way with the position of power he gathered, and well, he got used to it.”

There’s a long silence, in which both of you realise there’s not much more to say, and you quickly say goodbye and lay in the call.

It’s still an hour before lunchtime, but you don’t really feel like doing much. You wander around the mansion a bit, seeing what everyone’s up to. Katherine is in the common room, calling one of her sons. Blake is showing Nathan a video game in the R&R room. You look along for a moment, but decide it’s not your thing. You have special powers of your own and your job consists of shooting bad guys. You don’t see much point in doing the same thing in a video game. Outside, you find Liam outside at the shooting range. Figures, even during his time off he’s training.

What surprises you most is that you can’t find Raphael anywhere.

“Wooster, where’s Raphael?” You ask your house spirit.
>>
“Oh, Mister Raphael informed me he would like to stretch his wings and asked me if there was anyone nearby. I told him that as long as he stayed above the estate that he should not be seen from the outside and outlined the borders of it at the side of the forest. He took off right after that.

Right, angel. You forgot he even had wings. You sit outside for a while, watching Liam shoot target after target straight in either the centre mass or the head. Eventually, you see a silhouette that could just as easily been a bird fly towards you. It grows and it grows, and eventually a half-naked Raphael lands in front of you.

“Oh, erm, hello sir.” He seems a bit embarrassed. You’re not sure if it’s from the naked torso or the wings. “Wasn’t expecting you to be here.” He glances towards Liam but he’s just shooting targets, not even taking note of the angel’s arrival.

“Well, I think it’s about time for lunch, so you better get dressed.” You tell him, an amused smile dancing around your lips. He lights up like a christmas tree , gives you a quick ‘yes sir.’ and quickly runs inside, redder than a tomato.

When he’s gone, Liam suddenly bursts out in laughter. “Good one sir.” He smiles at you and puts his gun away in one of the lockers. “But as you said, lunch time.

You head inside and eat lunch. Raphael is still a bit reddish in hue, and seems to avoid eye contact with you.

Considering the war with the vampires, and especially after tonight’s attack, you decide it best to have some kind of on-side infirmary. You might not have a skilled doctor, though Milly probably knows the theory, but even just being able to do basic triage could help a lot in the future.

After picking the room, one of the most accessible ones in the mansion, close to both the front and back doors and right next to the stairs up, you start gathering materials and ordering some stuff online.

The entire team is performing miracles, working much faster than expected, but something suddenly happens when you try to lift some heavy materials with your mind.

THE VOID

“Sir? Sir?” Are you alright?” You hear a feminine voice say.

“He should be ok, I can’t find anything wrong with him.” A more distant male voice says.

You open your eyes. Where are you? Oh right, the mansion. Your team.

You try to get up but falter halfway. “Sir, you should just sit this one out.” Blake tells you as he helps you up and puts you down in the common room.

You feel like a child. You should just be able to help and not have this stupid Entity interfering. No, it said it wasn’t the entity, though they felt identical. It said it wass ‘the void’. You might want to ask Milly if she knows anything with that name.

I forgot that one in the series of telephone calls, my apologies. Good catch, I'll write that in now, think of it as being this morning as well.

>That morning after somewhere between or after the other phone calls, because the QM is a retard that forgets things.

You bring up Ridley’s number and hit the call button. It only rings once before she picks up. “Weston? How did go?” She sounds incredibly concerned.

“We made it through without a scratch. I heard you didn’t.”

“No, we didn’t. I got a few scratches, Nikki, only just back from a tour in the hospitals, got a bullet in her thigh, Jenny… Jenny could have been a lot worse. Now she ‘only’ lost her hand. Saunders s-“

Ridley swallows. You can tell she’s fighting back tears. “He saved her. We just got into the room, I didn’t have my gun yet, and he just charged it. Bought us all enough time to get to the armoury, but…”

She falls silent for a while. You don’t think you should talk right now. Just let her say her thing. Work through it. You suppose you owe the Entity some thanks, ironically. Wooster would have alerted you as well, but the delay might have still cost you dearly.

“I vowed to not let anyone die on my watch.” Her voice has a bitter determination to it. “And I failed them in that. Weston, I want to make these motherfuckers pay. Any time you need me against those fuckers, I don’t care when or where, I’ll come help, orders be damned.”

This is a far cry from the cheerful girl you met at Operation Daybreak. Then again, you don’t think you’d be any different if your positions were switched.

>1. Ask her if she wants to join you at the mansion. There should be enough room for her and her team and you’re fairly sure you can pull some strings to get it approved.
>2. Tell her that you will.
>3. Suggest to talk about it in full and in person at a later date.

thank her. No need to really do anything else.
>>
>>41307241
that might not be the best idea. She might storm one of the places as soon as she's able.
>>
>>41307283
Yep.
Just having a general idea on how sick their leader is wouldn`t hurt, though

more defenses always good

I disagree. currently 1 of them is heavily wounded via a lost hand, on of them is dead and one lost his copy. They'd be more a liability than aid for quite some time.
Besides The Order is already stretched thin as is.
>>
>>41307363
besides, having even more people at the mansion will leave some anons lost.
i have enough names to remember already

No but seriously. She'd take care of her team, we'd take care of our team.
>>
Ok, writing. the other, actual-time post will probably be right after.
>>
DON'T İNVİTE HER.
>>
>>41307363
The wounded are being taken care of anyway, the heavily wounded ones are not on active duty and are in order-controlled hospitals. The suggestion would have been only for those that are active with minor or no injuries like herself.
>>
>>41307548
wow fuck you

“Thanks.” you tell her. “Maybe you should tell me about it in full later?”

“That’d be good. Can’t tonight though. Order booked me with grief counselling against my wishes.”

“Hey, it might do you good. Those people know how to help.”

“Not likely Weston, shrinks are useless.” Ah, she’s that kind of person. Probably had a bad experience with one before.

“Well, how about tomorrow night?”

“Sure, I know a good cafe. Mind if I bring the team? Or well, the ones that aren’t confined to a hospital… I think we could all do with some R&R.”

You can’t really say no to that. If you said no it’d probably look like you’re hitting on her, and just a night out with the two teams could be entertaining.

“Very well. Until then, Ridley.”

“Call me Cassidy.”

“Ok, until then Cassidy.”

You hang up the phone.

>Back in the CANON TIMELINE! *cough* ack. Sorry, I think I came down with comic-book-itis. I’m better now, lemme try again.
>Back in the non-flashbacky retcon scene…

After dinner, you say it’s time for some more training, but before you start yourself, you take Milly aside.

“The void? I… Let me check.” She quickly blinks a few times. “There has been a wild magus calling himself that three centuries ago, but he was slain by then head of Vindex August Hornblower. I do not believe that to be of relevance to the current situation.”

“No, indeed. Nothing else?” You want to be sure.

“Nothing that’s more relevant than what I just told you, so no. But you understood what it said?”

“Yes, somehow. I mean, i spoke English, not like my previous contacts with the Entity, but it was so warped and distorted that I had difficulty making out the words.”

“And it mentioned its creator?”

“I think so, as I said, it was hard to understand. I think it said that he wasn’t the Entity, and that it was his creator.”

“Interesting. I’m afraid I can’t help with that though, sir.”

“It’s fine. I should go train with the rest now too. Maybe you should join us?” You jokingly suggest.

“Sir, must I remind you that I am non-combat personnel? I am explicitly forbidden from entering combat areas or endanger myself in any way, and am only to fight if it is to defend my own life.”

Well, there’s your answer. You head over to the gym. Liam is outside as usual, and Katherine’s there with him. Raphael’s nowhere to be seen, though you think you see something glowing outside that’s not the lamps of the shooting range.
>>
Blake and Nathan are both in the gym. Blake lifting weights and Nathan is going through some punches and kicks, mentored by Blake. “No, higher. I thought a trained soldier would be better than this.” He laughs.

In response, Nathan mutters something, but loud enough for everyone to hear. “Had enough of this from the damn drill sergeants. Don’t need it from you too.”

You leave them to their friendly bickering and focus on your psychic power, lifting as much weights as you can. Blake suddenly cries out nearby. It seems you accidentally let his fly as well.

“Not much point in letting us train if you’re doing the work for us sir.” He smiles. You quickly apologise and focus a bit better. You’re clearly making progress. You wouldn’t have been able to lift half this much a few months ago.

After an intense routine, you relax a bit in the common room, where everyone’s chilling a bit except for Nathan and Blake. They went for a quick shower first. Well, Milly’s not there either, but that’s to be expected sadly.

You inform them of the raid on Cassidy Ridley’s squad and tell them of tomorrow evening’s plans. They’re all heavily in favour. You talk about what you heard about what happened for a moment with them, but eventually you head to bed. Not long after and you’re asleep.

>Your psychic stat went to 2/4 needed to level up.
>Katherine's ranged stat levelled up to 2.
>Liam's ranged stat went to 1/4 needed to level up
>Blake's body stat went to 1/3 needed to level up
>Nathan's melee stat went to 1/2 needed to level up
>Raphael's magic stat levelled up to 4 because I figured he'd been studying magic so much he was due for a power-up.

>That’s all folks!

Woops, posted a bit too early, wasn't finished typing just yet.

Pastebin updated. Also the "other characters" has been updated a bit. Do let me know if there's someone else that should be there. I do know of Tobias still needing to be put in there, I'll get on that straight away.

Next thread on Tuesday.
Thanks for sticking around!
