Your name is Thomas Cairn, and you have no clue what you jumped into. Your dad was a famous superhero known as The Red Rider, and he showed up dead in an alley about a year ago. When you were checking out a storage unit you inherited from him, everything changed. You gained his powers, a brain able to calculate faster than light, and an uncanny affinity for machinery.

Using your powers, you were easily able to get into the world's top engineering college, Central Cosmopolis Institute. You never moved past Dad's ideas though, and you couldn't stand the gap The Red Rider made, so you filled it. You made a suit of power-armor and became The Red Knight, however, you lacked experience. So you managed to get a mentor, Wrench, so that you could learn the Hero business. Of course the only way to learn is experience, so you spent a good portion of your free time breaking up Mafia operations around Cosmopolis.

The people have taken a shine to you. They were scared about The Red Rider's "hiatus", but now that you're here they think that, like other normal Supers, he passed on the torch. The crowds love you, every time you fly by at least 20 phones come out, but no good comes without a price, and not everybody can be saved.

"Wait, so you're from the future. But you wear old-fashioned clothing and how did you get in this room? It was locked and the window was shut." This guy is definitely crazy, physics dictates that you can only go forward in time, not back. Somebody must have let him in.

"I told you, I made a detour, I was supposed to show up before your speech but I overshot it and reached 1850. I had to hurry to make it here, so I had to deal with what was at hand. The Device placed me here when I reached this timeline."

"What is The Device and can you prove that you're from the future?"

"The Device is what I used to get here, and yes." He takes out a folded slip of paper. "My boss told me to give this to you and you'd at least start to believe me."

You take the paper and open it up, it seems to be typed and printed rather than handwritten. "Forget what you know about physics involving travelling to the past, it is possible. You are a very important person in the future, as both Thomas Cairn and The Red Knight. I hired Jules to keep you safe during the convention, as there will be at least one threat to your life on the last day. Do not squander this opportunity. -A Friend in High Places"

"He also said that I am not allowed to answer any questions you have about the future, myself, and who he is. It has to do with keeping internal consistency or something he said. Has there been an attempt on your life recently?"

"Yes, somebody shot at me, but they missed." No reason to hide the truth, even if he is lying, he seems harmless enough. Also, his "Boss" knows who you are, so it's not like you have a choice.

"That's odd, if I wasn't there he should have hit according to the schedule..."

"What schedule? What do you mean he should have hit!?"

"That was an assassin and considering that I was late, he should have injured you. In almost every timeline it hits you, except this one. The schedule is basically a guideline of what might happen, and no, you can't see it. If you see what could happen then it increases the chance of it happening." This seems kind of fishy.

"How does the device work? Is it able to detect three-dimensional timelines along four- or five-dimensional parallels and then facilitates the movement along said timelines?" Maybe you could build a time machine, then you could go forward in time, pick up tech from there and sell it here.

"I can't say and I have no clue what you just said, I just press buttons and try to keep you alive. Anyway, next things you can do on the schedule are..."

"I'm going to do the Q&A Jules, it would help me to get some friends in the Medical field." Especially considering the amount of money they make, and the... potential for good, yeah, that's why you do this.

"The schedule says that's high risk, but it'll do." The schedule seems rather fatalistic, really, how many timelines do you die in? Can't be that many.

You walk across campus in an unassuming hoodie covering up your suit and tie. It's a rainy night and the lamps around campus only barely ward off the darkness around the dorms. The air thumps with the sound of the bass coming from the party on the other side of the campus, but that doesn't concern you. The rain patters on the ground in thick, heavy drops as you and Jules, after changing into more modern apparel, walk to the Science building for the Q&A.

There's a crowd of people in the room that was scheduled for the panel, all of them chattering about what they're going to ask and who's going to show up. Jules blends in like he's in his element. You walk to the back room where you meet up with your acquaintance in the field, Dr. Wolf, a rather plain woman in her early 30s. Dr. Wolf runs the regional operations for Solus Solutions, you met at a conference on the position of robotics in medicine.

"Hello Thomas, I didn't think you'd make it considering the other events going on."

"Eh, scheduling. If I get plastered first, I'll be hungover for the more sobering events. If I drank I mean." Yeah, you don't drink... riiiiiiight.

"Okay, well this is Fugashi Honda, he runs the R&D department. And this is Carter Roberts, the chief expert in physical therapy. Guys, this is Thomas Cairn, CEO of Cairn Industries and an innovator." She introduces you to the two people standing next to her, a tall Asian man and a guy with blonde hair and a face latticed with scars.

The Q&A starts shortly after, you all walk out and take your seats, each with a microphone and a small bottle of water in front of you. Nothing too notable is asked, some questions on possibilities in medicine, opinions on medical ethics, a bit about what nanotechnology means for medicine. All pretty inconsequential until...

"My question is for Mr. Cairn, what do you intend to do in medicine? Aren't you a Mechanical Engineer, not a Doctor?" The question is shot at you by a young woman with a ridiculous pink haircut.

"I'm going to negotiate with the people who want to buy The Tempest." It is the reason you organized the expo after all.

"Yes, that is on the schedule, no time to lose, come on." Did he just make a time travel pun? Goddammit.

You get the word out to the people who would be interested and there's a pretty good amount of people who show up at the meeting, it is midnight after all. But you get about 30 people with the means to pay for it lined up for negotiations.

"Gentlemen, I called you here today to discuss The Tempest, and what it means to me, as well as what it means to you."

You begin by showing the stats on the projector behind you, cost to make, top speed, weight, the works. You even answer a few of the questions they ask, like if it's been tested, which it has. Everyone seems fairly impressed by even just the design of it. Then somebody asks the inevitable question.

"Does it really work, or was that just a show?"

The entire electrical industry is going to collapse once the threat of the Energy Crisis is gone, and I'm going to be doing the wrecking. I'll change to no.
We can work on that in the back ground, or choose to work on that, once we have the contacts to secure our safety once we're a 100+million dollar company. With some strong ties.

"I can assure you that it works as shown, the means it uses are included in the purchase. I'll even let you test it right now if you want proof of how good it is." You lead them out to the parking lot, where you had a stage hand from earlier set up some cones. The parking lot is for staff, so it's a large, empty lot.

Each of them takes turns driving the course and nobody complains about the car. It corners like a dream thanks to a lightweight blend of plastic and carbon-fiber, reinforced with steel of course. All of the attendees are reasonably impressed by the car itself.

"So, who would like to make an offer?" You smile and the entire crowd starts to talk over each other to get an offer in. Cries of 15% and 40% and so on fill the lot as more and more try to put an offer in. Jules even has to hold a few back, his thin frame remarkably robust for its size.

"I will offer you 30% of the profits and a 50% stake in my company- I will give you 50% and- No, I will-" God these guys are annoying.

"Write down your offers and place them in this box!" Jules holds out a cardboard box, obviously done trying to keep them away from you.

You open the box inside and choose an offer.

>50% of the profits
>30% of the profits and a 50% stake in the company (VBR Automotive)
>40% of the profits and favors to be determined by you (GET Corp.)

Good plan.

Here's the infodump of what you know about each

VBR: A fairly standard automotive company based in Comet City.

GET Corp: They have a stake in almost every market, an international corporation that has very few competitors.

UAU: Imagine if Blackwater had Superheroes, that.

Reposting the offers for what you want:

>50% of the profits
>30% of the profits and a 50% stake in the company (VBR Automotive)
>40% of the profits and favors to be determined by you (GET Corp.)

"Who here represents UAU Security Solutions?" You hear a sound of disappointment among the crowd, then a tall, spartan looking man in a black and red pinstripe suit walks up.

"That would be me."

"If you can find and capture the person who wrote this note," You hand over the threat." then I accept." This is a good test for how effective they are. What's true and what's false.

The man in front of you fades into a blur, then is back holding a pale man. It must be a teleporter, or something, maybe you can ask for people to test from them. Wait, who's the guy with the gloves?

"Got him, he threw the slip at the box from a perch over there." He points at a building across the street. "Probably a Super, but not extraordinarily powerful, just precise."

"Well then, we have a deal, I look forward to doing business with you." Jules is in shock, so are you but you can hide it, and everyone else leaves with their head hung low.

"What should I do with him?" The pale man stares at you with a vacant, almost bored look on face.

>>
>>41264166

>>
>>41264181
No, but he might appreciate the offer. Plus, it's a good way to introduce the fact that we have alotta shit not on the market yet that they should probably pay us for. They've only paid us for the car and engine, after all.
>>
>>41264199
>>41264166
I feel like this can be worked out in a later deal. The initial deal is for the car, not even the tech behind the energy. We can potentially give the better deals on it in the future, but we shouldn't just give them away outside of a bid with other companies that may also be interested.
>>
>>41264181
The roll I did was for the guy's powers and how relevant they were. He did really well.
>>
>>41263898
>>"Restrain him, I'll get the info out of him."
>>"Report him to the authorities and then get what information you can out of him."

We need to make a truth serum that we keep for these type of situations.
>>
>>41264240
Of course we can do deals later on, but the point right now is to give "free samples". I highly doubt their ability to make their own version of it for cheaper than what we can sell it for and still get the same quality.
>>
>>41264261
That...actually is pretty good.
>>
>>41264199
id rather we be able to produce and sell most of our own inventions so we get the most money.
>>
>>41264358
Of course we will, and until we cut a deal with them we'll be able to sell it to them, our new biggest customers, for profit. And if they don't take, we can sell to their competitors. Incentive to make a deal with us for our tech.

Besides, it's not like everything we sell will be through them. Just the personal defense items, such as the armor or stun beams, and super-car. We can sell the medical tech through Solus Solutions, and the Cairnsium power-grid, the nanotechnology, and electronic devices can be sold via Cairn Industries.
>>
>>41264261
Except if they couldn't do it before, they now have something they can reverse engineer towards making progress to make their own. So no fuck that.
>>
>>41264551
Sure, they can drop millions on making their own from our samples, but really it'd be cheaper, easier, and faster to just cut a deal and buy the process from us. Besides, we've got patents.
>>
>>41264608
Yeah, and then they can patent it. And sell it for more. Even trading some pieces for information or just "earning" favors would be better than idiotically giving them away.
No thanks, making deals with em later is reasonable. Giving out free samples is idiotic.
>>
>>41264645
As opposed to them buying it from us? We have to give them a chance to test the shit out themselves, and this is the perfect opportunity.
>>
>>41264683
Buying the samples, I mean. The armor, at least, is for sale already.
>>
File: image.jpg (51 KB, 1333x700)

51 KB JPG
>>
>>41264694
And by that I mean they could just buy the nano-armor vests from us and reverse engineer it. If we offer them free samples and leave the door open for a much larger deal, we'd have better standing.
>>
>>41264683
Letts them sample it isn't a bad idea.
Giving it away is a shit idea.
I am not against trading with them, letting them sample it, but giving it away is fucking retarded.
We just gave them 75% of the profits from the tempest cars we produce.
>>
>>41264739
Oh, wait, you think I'm talking about giving away the nanoarmor DESIGN? No, I'm talking about giving him a couple of vests for his team to use.
>>
>>41264724
Wrong, them buying it atleast gives us them impression we are not a fucking child.
We do business, not give shit out free when we have it. Trading them "samples" is fine. Giving it away is not.
>>41264762
Design or not, if we trade them one eventually they will work on reverse engineering it. While we can likely make it much cheaper, makes us an asset they will want to keep alive, i can agree with. But giving shit away is bad for business. unless its crack or heroin. but this is quite like that, is it?
>>
>>41264796
Jesus christ, man, you're talking about 500 bucks. It's perfectly okay to give our own security details some extra protection because it has the added benefit of making them more capable of keeping us safe. THAT is the trade we're making. "If you have a security detail already set up, I might have a couple of things they could use. Armor and trauma medicines. Free of charge, but only this time since they're protecting me. We can talk about larger-scale deals after the Expo."

"If you think you can get something out of him, get it. Otherwise turn him in to the authorities." Wow, when did you start sounding this cool, maybe you should work on that more. Might be suspicious.

"Okay, we'll get in touch to get those designs and such, expect a client ID number from us soon, followed by the ability to call us and put security on your shit. It's free, that's why we put a low percentage of profit, the rest of it goes to that." He turns on his heel and walks away with the shooter grasped tightly against his side.

>Connection (UAU Security Solutions) gained!
