With Tien's victory against Launch, a short lunch break was called. You sit with the rest of the Turtle School, save Goku, with Bulma, Puar, Oolong, and the Ox King sitting with you, Launch herself offering to buy everyone food. The monkey boy meanwhile was sitting with Arale's group, chatting with the robot girl. Across the way, the Crane School could be seen celebrating their recent victory, apparently ignoring their losses, Yamcha glaring at them.

"You almost had him. What's that Tien guy made of?" the young man grumbled, eyes fixed on the triclops.

"Eh, you'll get 'em next round, Yamcha. He's tough but I don't think he has many more tricks." Launch answered, bringing over two ice cream cones.

"Even if he wins, he'll have to face Maple or Chi-chi in the semi-finals." Bulma comments. "You guys got this."

"Tch. Thanks for the vote of confidence." Yamcha grumbles in return.

"Oh don't you start again. You know that's not what I meant." the purple-haired girl sighed as she rolled her eyes. Well then. You're kinda picking up something between them here...

Bulma and Yamcha glared at each other and grunted out a "Fine." simultaneously. Well, gonna have to, uh, check up on that later. You turn to Master Roshi and nudge him in the shoulder. "Hey, Master, so, there was this strange competitor I fought in the prelims. Name was Tambourine, seems like he sort of had some less than savory plans for the Tournament. He wasn't that strong, but was kind of cryptic..."

The old man raised an eyebrow at the comment, repeating the name. "Tambourine... Tambourine... hrmn... I don't think I know any fighter by that name, but it does ring a bell somewhere. I'll keep an eye out, kiddo. You folks should be enough to handle him, in any case." He pats you on the shoulder with a prideful smile.

"Thanks, Master." you say with a grin. You then turn to the celebrating Crane School students, walking over.

You turn your eyes to him, smirking a little. "Thought about what I've said at all, Crane Hermit?" Shen... stays silent, looking away from you.

"Enough. Go pester your own friends, brat." Tao hisses at you. Soon, the break is over, and the fighters are called back to the arena.

"The next match is against returning competitors Giran and Acer Mahogany! Both competitors must be itching to finally make it past the first round, but who will come out on top?"

"I've got plenty of new tricks, kid. The winner will be me." Giran tells your brother with a grin.

Your brother takes things easily for the start, letting Giran throw the first few punches and dodging easily. He then catches Giran's fist and tosses the monster into the air. Giran stops himself, but Acer follows that up with a hard punch to the monster's gut, then kicks him down to the ground. For a moment, Giran seems too dazed to continue, and the Announcer starts counting. At the 8 count however, Giran springs back to life and seems to launch some strange sort of pink slime at your brother.

"Tch... this didn't work against Goku, why do you think it'll work against me?" Acer asks, and attempt to break it... but fails. "...uh-oh."

"That's an improvement on the Guruguru Gum! Buyobuyo Gum! You WON'T get out of that!" the monster says with a chuckle. Acer again attempts to break free, but can't. "Hahaha! You might as well give up nURGHK!" Giran is interrupted by another kick to his gut. This one does put him out for the count.

"Acer Mahogany advances! Congratulations!"

As Giran is brought past you all, your brother flies over frantically. "Maple! Need a bit of help here!"

"And a one, and a two, and a three!" You slowly try to cut the gum... and it just seems to get the blade stuck in it. Arale and Obotchaman are called forward to their match.

"...please get this thing off of me." Acer requests, eyes fixed on the sword that is stuck awfully close to his face. You give it a pull... and no dice. Goku, Chi-chi, and Krillin all try to pull with you, and it just seems to get the blade MORE stuck in the gum.

"Grrhh... Okay, enough of this." You make a gun shape with your hand and build up some ki. "GEIST MAGNUM!" You fire at the gum, Acer trying his best to take a defend himself if any breaks through. It... doesn't even scratch it.

"Well... this is a bit awkward." Acer says with a slight blush across his face. "Uh... maybe we coul- GOKU NO!" The monkey boy tries to chew on the gum. He takes a bite and tries to pull, pull with all his might, stretching the gum... but it STILL doesn't break. Goku tries chewing on it in frustration. Tien seems to be chuckling to himself lowly, Tao and Chiaotzu doing the same.

"Okay, new plan: we FREEZE it out!" you declare. Acer looks at you with a glare. "...what? Do YOU have any bright ideas. Because if you do then by all means, figure it out b-"

"And the winner of the match is: Arale Norimaki!" the Announcer guy declares, to the... audible "awws" of the crowd? Oh, huh. Right. The match. You see a smiling Arale and a blushing but gleefully smiling Obotchaman exit the ring.

"...your strength never ceases to amaze me, Arale." you breathe out, Acer enjoying his renewed mobility. The robot girl smiles at you. "H-how did the match go, anyway?"

"It was fun! I managed to get the upper hand in the end and tossed Obotchaman out of the ring." Arale tells you.

Well, you could gather that much, you guess. "What, er, were the crowds going 'aww' about, exactly?"

"We kissed afterwards!" she says rather... bluntly, Obotchaman hiding his blushing face.

He punches forward, launching a shockwave at Nam that sends him flying out of the ring and crashing into the wall. You notice that, however, that wasn't a single punch, it was almost like four at once.

"Nam is out of bounds! King Chappa, in a single blow, has taken out Nam! He will move on to the quarterfinals!"

"That wasn't a single blow." Tien corrects him, the Crane students nodding. "Impressive."

The man walks over to help the exhausted Nam up, then brings him to the waiting area. "Just get some rest, that might have taken the wind out of you but you should be fine now."

"The last match of the first round will be against returning fighters and Turtle School warriors Son Goku and Krillin!"

"Well then, let's see what the mysterious monkey boy has to offer." Tien says aloud, floating over to watch the match. You and the rest of the Turtle School go to the other wall, the two other Crane School competitors joining Tien.

"Fighters ready? BEGIN!"

Goku and Krillin dash at each other, unleashing a flurry of strikes at each other. They seem to want to keep this extremely physical, conserving their energy. They aren't even using the Afterimage technique, they're making each strike count while expending as little of their strength as possible. Krillin's strikes seem to be focused on keeping Goku guessing, while Goku's are centered on actually doing damage to his opponent. It's amazing both how well they're doing and how seriously they're taking their match.

"I've never seen Goku fight so seriously. He's not holding anything back." Yamcha comments.

"Come on Goku! You've got this match!" Launch yells. You can hear Bulma cheering on Goku as well, with Oolong and Puar doing the same. You even spot Eighter among them, but no Suno, curiously.

"You can do it Krillin! Show him who's boss!" you hear your brother and some other members of the crowd cheering. Most prominently are a boy and a girl, about the same age, black and blonde hair. "You can do it, brutha!" a green fox person adds.

You yourself try to cheer the both of them on, paying careful attention to their movements, but you end up noticing you're cheering for Goku even more than Krillin. As the two keep fighting, they're no longer pulling their punches, and the blows hit hard. Finally, Krillin attempts, of all things, Yamcha's Spirit Ball to try and trap Goku, followed by a Kamehameha to strike at him, sending him flying. Goku returns this with a Kamehameha-propelled boost, finally landing a powerful strike to the jaw and sending him out of bounds before he could recover.

"And the winner is: Son Goku!"

Quickly, the monkey boy leaps over and helps Krillin up. The two smile at each other and share a hug, walking back into the waiting area as the crowds cheer them both.

"All righty folks, that's been it for the first round, but we'll be starting the Quarterfinals momentarily!" the blonde Announcer guy says to the still cheering crowd.

"Guess that means us, Maple." Chi-chi says, looking at you with a mixture of excitement and worry. "Our rematch."

"Hah, so it is. I think I know what you're doing after the Tournament this time, though." you tell your friend with a bit of a sly smile. Chi-chi looks back at your brother, then at you.

"Hey, um... what about you? Are there any things you've got planned? Any..." she blushes a little and plays with her hair bun. "...one, you been thinking on spending some time with?" She seems to tilt her head in the direction of Goku and Krillin.

You immediately prep two Spirit Bits and dash at Chi-chi. "No going easy on me, okay?"

"Only if you promise not to go easy on me!" Chi-chi meets your charge, going for a powerful kick. You manage to dodge and try to counter with a punch, but she catches it and throws a punch of her own. You catch that, then try to chase her off with your Spirit Bits, the girl dodging almost gracefully. Seems Chi-chi's gotten even better at moving quickly, thinking on her feet. When there's only one shot remaining, she takes a stance and charges a Kamehameha. You immediately try to strike her with the last shot, but you realize all too quickly that she'd already left an Afterimage, and was actually moving behind you.

"You've gotten a lot better, but don't think that's gonna work on me!" You prepare to dodge the attack.

"Meee... HAAAA!" Chi-chi fires at you and you jump up to avoid it... then notice the attack actually REDIRECTING itself and slamming you in the back, sending you falling back to the ground, your face becoming acquainted with Chi-chi's knee on the way there. She sends you falling with another kick.

"Looks like it did, Maple." she says with a smile, chasing after you. Damn, that was a good one. Yet you're not down yet. You try to stand, and right as she's on top of you you make a fist and build up ki into it.

"PHANTOM SHOTGUN!" You fire right at point blank, the barrage of ki now sending her flying upwards. Chi-chi stops herself in mid-air.

"H-heh... good counter..."

You can hear the girl's father cheering for her, while Bulma is cheering for you, quite clearly. Your friends seem split down the middle, Goku cheering excitedly for you both. You stand and dust yourself off.

Well, she won't see this one coming. You CLOTHES BEAM a long piece of cloth tied around her leg, then grab on to it and fling her to the ground. You're right, and as she bounces you unleash a flurry of attacks, striking her with all your might. Chi-chi tries to put up a good defense, but is backed to the edge of the ring. You then attack her with the Ki Jan Ken, knocking her outside it with your three shockwave strikes, and use a bit of telekinesis to make sure she hits the grassy ground below.

"Chi-chi has landed out of bounds! Maple is the winner of the first match of the Quarterfinals!"

Hopping down, you make sure Chi-chi's all right, quickly healing her injuries and helping her up. She hugs you and then gives you a pat on the shoulder, and heads back to the rest of your friends. "Heh... almost dodged that last one, but you were too quick, Maple."

"Heh, part of that was just luck." you admit. "It's not exactly an orthodox fighting strategy. Still, a win's a win."

Acer quickly approaches you both. "Nice work, sis. And good try, Chi-chi, that bending Kamehameha was brilliant, how'd you do that?"

"To be honest, Goku actually thought that one up." she says with a smile, nodding at the monkey boy. "I just learned it from him."

"Heh, well, no offense Chi-chi, bit I was kinda betting on Maple. Girl's even quicker on her feet than I remember. You did better this time, though. Who knows? Maybe you'll beat her next time. Third time's the charm, as they say." Yamcha tells her, giving you both a pat on the head.

"Yeah, you did a good job, kid." Launch tells her. "Both of ya' did."

Tien looks at your friend funny, almost like he's lost in thought, caught between two modes of thinking. He then shrugs and starts walking off. "You better not disappoint me, Yamcha. I am a warrior who seeks a proper challenge."

You and Acer smile at your friend. "Good luck, Amuro."

As they walk off, Launch seems somewhat conflicted herself. "Hope those two can start seeing eye to eye."

"Tien will not see eye to eye with him. Tien has the heart of a killer, a warrior who needs his blade heavy with blood." Tao comments, taking his place on one side of the wall, Chiaotzu follows, but he also seems more conflicted. You follow the three of them, Launch behind you.

"I want to trust you two on there being no funny business in this match. This is for Yamcha's sake, and Tien's." you say while making it clear in no uncertain terms that if they do, you're going to deal with them about it. "Please..." You also try to keep an eye out for any unusual Power Levels, like Tambourine's.

"Rest assured, girl, I will do no such thing. I know Tien's capabilities." Tao declares.

Chiaotzu stares awkwardly and mumbles, "I... want Tien to win, but he is... my friend..."

Neither combatant makes a move for a moment, both seemingly playing out what the other will do in their heads. Then Yamcha backs up, Tien leaping at him and attacking fiercely. While your friend keeps up a good guard, it's soon clear that the triclops' strength is superior to Yamcha's, and his speed is even greater. Still, Yamcha pulls out everything he has, giving a powerful counterattack. First blow of Yamcha's that connects is a right hook to Tien's jaw, with Tien doing the same. And apparently the three-eyed man takes it with greater surprise than Yamcha does.

"T-Tien..."

"He will win." Tao reassures.

Yamcha tries to make his attacks connect on Tien's chest, going for the most amount of damage he can inflict. A powerful knee to the Triclops' gut sends him stumbling in pain, but not for long, as Tien instead focuses his own attacks on Yamcha's limbs, targeting his joints especially. After half a minute of back and fourth, Tien again brings out his Four Witches technique, but Yamcha takes it as a cue to gain distance, and launches a Spirit Ball at his opponent, using it to strike at Tien when the man gets in close and then attacking with his legs as his arms are kept busy with the Spirit Ball.

"Y-Yamcha..." you know you hear Bulma mutter. You see her among the crowds, looking intently at her boyfriend.

The two hover, catching their breaths. "Y-you're just full of surprises, aren't you? W-well... I'm not out yet..."

"Indeed you aren't." Tien seems to look at his opponent with an... almost gleeful bloodlust, and places his hands together. Then you hear something that shocks you. Something from the Crane Hermit.

"Tien no! It's not worth using that technique against him! Hold off on it!"

Tao and Chiaotzu seem equally disturbed.

...that isn't good. "Tien, don't! What about your pride as a warrior?!"

"I HAVE MY RESOLVE! BUTT OUT OF THIS!" Tien roars back at all of you. You can sense a terrifying amount of ki building up around him. "You better dodge this, Yamcha, or else you won't live!"

That's when it hits you all. Yamcha isn't below Tien anymore. Yamcha is ABOVE Tien. "NEO! WOLF! FANG! FIST!" The flurry of ferocious blows ram into the three-eyed man's back. Tien hits the ground with an audible thud, Yamcha falling to his knees. "D-don't you dare try something so stupid... y-you're a better fighter than this..."

Tien stands, struggling for a moment. "What do you know?! Y-you... you're on your last breath... don't think I didn't notice how much energy you have left!" In rage, Tien lunges at Yamcha and kicks him in the arm... breaking it. The crowds gasp in shock, and you can hear Bulma almost faint before Puar catches her. Tien then places his hands to his face. "SOLAR FLARE!"

With only a moment to spare, you quickly Clothes Beam a pair of sunglasses onto yourself, Acer getting the pair he got as a present out, as a brilliant, blinding light fills the entire arena. Few people can still see. The Crane Hermit looks at his student in shock. "W-what's he trying to pull?!"

Tien again takes to the air, though this time he doesn't try the same technique. You notice ki building up at his third eye. "You will FALL!"

Yamcha is, in spite of the broken arm, in spite of the painful, blinding light, he's still willing to fight. "L-like hell... I... will..." He places his arm upwards, ki building up in his palm. "Ha... HOWLING RIFLE!"

"YOU FOOL!" Tien fires the beam from his eye. Yamcha, with every last bit of energy left, fires back at Tien. Tien's beam strikes Yamcha across the side, damaging the side of his body and his arm and leg... but Yamcha's attack hits true. It strikes his opponent right in the face. Tien goes down, dropping like a rock... and out of the ring.

"L-ladies and gentlemen... in spite of the match looking to turn in his favor, T-Tien Shinhan is out of bounds! YAMCHA IS THE WINNER!"

Your friend immediately collapses from his injuries. You can see Bulma nearly leap over the wall with Puar flying over as well.

Thinking quickly, you toss a Senzu to Chiaotzu. "Get this to Tien. It'll restore him to full health."

Tao glares at you. "W-we don't need your sympath-" but before he can finish, the boy has already flown over. You yourself rush to Yamcha.

"H-hey... Bulma... Puar... M-Maple... h-heh..." he coughs, bleeding on the tiles a bit. You and Bulma look at each other and nod, then at Puar, who transforms himself into a stretcher. Very carefully, the two of you help Yamcha onto it, and then into the waiting area.

"All right, Yamcha, this is going to hurt a bit..." you tell him. "But the pain's going to be over soon. Just hold tight." You carefully make sure his arm is set properly, the young man giving out a shout, but then you quickly heal it, and swiftly work to heal the rest of his body. After that's done, you Clothes Beam away the heavily damaged uniform and replace it with a new one. "Th-there..." you wipe some sweat from your brow. Glad you don't have another match until tomorrow.

"Th-thanks, kid..." Yamcha says weakly. In spite of his injuries being healed he's still clearly exhausted. Bulma clings to him, saying over and over "I'm sorry" to him. Then comes Tien.

"...you fought well, Yamcha. You have bested me. And... the Turtle School has bested the Crane School." The triclops, Tao, Chiaotzu, and Shen all give an uneasy look at your group.

"I believe it's time we finally have a proper talk, old friend." you hear Master Roshi say to the other old man.

Thanks for playing! To be completely honest I really wasn't sure who would win the match myself, I'd been kind of thinking on it the entire night. In the end, seemed like this would be the best way to go about it, given everything you guys have kind of gotten Yamcha through.

Plus I couldn't help but put that little bit in at the end of the fight. Just fit too well. Also hey, first time someone has successfully used the Solar Flare.

In time, anon. Honestly he's probably the one among the Crane School that likes you the most, so far. Tien... more respects you than he likes you, but he'll probably, eventually turn around too. Tao and Shen have a lot of reconsidering to do.

With all the healing we've been doing, we've pretty much become the designated team healer.

Good news is that even if we fall behind in power, we're still going to be pretty useful throughout the entire series since Senzu are in limited supply.

Bad news is that we'll probably be targeted first, so there's a good chance we'll die a few times.

Yamcha DID beat Anton last tournament, though this time around is the first time he succeeded in defeating someone who actually did outclass him in strength and skill. Yamcha and Tao were about equals when they had their rematch.

Still, healing is very useful even outside of getting powerups like Gohan did. Especially with the sayians.

And unlike Dende we aren't totally helpless, so it worksout even better.
