You are Sallazar, a young wizard who has recently left the army. You have taken a teaching job at Egwen Girls Convent.

In addition the Headmaster of the school wants you to run the schools adventurers club, to give some of the schools more...unusual...girls something fun to do.

You’re sat in a small room in the Grey Hands thieves guild: a guild in the poorer part of Veltwing – Capital of Lysva, it’s midnight, or thereabouts.

In there with you is the guildmaster; a hulking man close to seven feet tall called Hostern. He has grey dead-looking skin, and he smells of some sort of chemical preservative. Jathrul doesn’t think he’s a vampire, but he’s some sort of undead, apparently.

With him are two more grey-skinned men. Between them they are holding a bound and gagged Jathrul. Jathrul was one of the Stone Eyes – the scouts and spies of the Walls. He’s a career criminal whom you never liked at the best of times. You recently found out that he looted your friends corpse rather than bring him back for a proper burial; you’d kill Jathrul and not feel guilty about it all, but maybe he could prove useful.

There’s also an invisible hedge mage standing in the corner.

Hostern is leaning over the small table between you, and just asked you what reward you want for bringing Jathrul back to him. If you let him, he’ll probably take his time killing Jathrul slowly.
>>
Jathrul tried to steal from Hostern a very valuable item that Jathrul sold him: Thrandel Greensteels breastplate. Its the last real, tangible connection you have to a friend who was like a brother to you. It sounds like a story: the noble dwarf prince befriending the poor boy who grew up in the slums.

But the truth is more prosaic; as a non-dwarf and a mage, even a military one, you were allowed to address Thrandel without having to bow and scrape before him. Your friend valued honesty and appreciated someone who could tell him when he was wrong. He treated you better than your fellow humans and even sent away a human knight who called you commoner filth. You can admit to yourself that there’s almost nothing you wouldn’t have done for Thrandel.

You’re not leaving here without his breastplate. Its something you can take back to his family so they have something to bury. There’s no way it deserves to be held by a bunch of thieves.

But there’s also Jathrul to think of: scum though he is, he’s smart enough to be scared of you, and you have both a Geas and a contingent spell on him that could take his life with a single word from you.

Groundskeeper Answick is doing his best to teach your girls some of a rogue’s skills, but Jathrul is probably far more skilled. If you save his life here, and keep a close watch on him, he could come back to the school with you.

But Hostern is looking at you like he expects an answer. What do you say?

>I want the breastplate (trade Jathrul for the breastplate)
>Jathrul owes me a debt; you can’t have him
>Give me Jathrul and the Breastplate else I’ll burn this entire place down and take them

I was just saying that they whould probably be better teachers than him, not that we should go with it.

generally illegal unless controlled by a licensed necromancer.

But no one bothers to arrest them unless they do something that attracts notice.

But by the law, killing Fostern (if he is undead) would not be a crime in Lysva

Assuming End to Undeath even works on them, yes.

Capturing one of them isn't really a concern to me, and I see no real reason for Salazar to pull his punches against a mostly-unknown foe when the breastplate is so important to him.
>>
“I want the breastplate” you say, meeting Hosterns gaze. You can see by the way his eyes tighten there’s no need to say which one; he knows what you’re talking about.

“Out of the question” he grunts in a low-born accent “too valuable, I’ll give you a hundred gold; no more.”

It sounds like a refusal, but you know when someone is trying to strike a deal.

“Please” you say, sounding ready to laugh “don’t insult me, the price for his life is set at eight thousand – I’d expect you’d pay that to see him dead.”

The two of you go back and forth; Hostern raises his offer as high as two thousand gold, and no higher.

“I’d have thought your reputation worth one old breastplate” you say, indicating Jathrul “Isn’t that worth everyone knowing that they can’t cross the Grey Hands and live?”

“The breastplate is magic” says Hostern. Damn, of course he had his mages check it over, damn.

“Two thousand gold for him” Hostern indicates Jathrul “in gold or trade, your choice, final offer.”

What do you do?

You’ve had enough; you move your hands in the gestures of your spell even as you start mouthing the phrases to shape the arcane forces you control into something appropriately lethal.

Hostern reacts quickly; he grabs the table between you and flips it at your face. You are thrown backwards against the wall as the table is smashed to splinters against your stoneskin spell. Well, he’s certainly very strong. You complete your spell just as he lunges at you. His hands brush your throat at the same time as you release your magic, a green ray briefly connects the two of you, and then Hostern is just...gone.

[regular AE 43/56]

“As you can see” you start to say “tangling with me is a very bad id-”

Hosterns two grey thugs are on you just as fast as he was, their fists slamming into your face and chest, but utterly unable to hurt you; you don’t feel a thing.

The hedge mage’s invisibility dissolves as he casts a spell at you to paralyse you. It is instantly absorbed by your own spell. You’re surprised his spell actually functioned, his gestures were so clumsy.

[AE 48/56]

Jathrul is lying on the floor, you have two grey-skinned thugs trying to punch you to death and failing, and one sloppy mage to deal with.

The mage starts yelling “Intruder, get him!” There will probably be more thieves and thugs on their way shortly.

As the thugs punch and kick you, you block it out and focus on your spell. Dozens of bolts of magic force fly out with perfect precision, slamming into the two grey whatever-they-are and also into the mage.

[AE 35/56]

In seconds it is over, and all three are dead, merely bags of flesh and broken bones leaking fluids into the floor. The two grey things smell foul, like week-old corpses.

You listen carefully as Jathrul thrashes on the floor and tries to catch your attention.

You can hear shouted orders and running footsteps. The guild knows you’re here and soon you’ll have all of them to deal with.

You wander over to Jathrul and remove his gag and the ropes restraining him. He climbs to his feet “Thanks Az-er Sallazar” he says “For a moment there I thought you were going to let them have me.”

You don’t answer that, if they had given you the breastplate, you would have. Its probably in the treasure room, one floor up, and past a lot of thieves and several weak mages.

“So ah, what do we do?” asks Jathrul, who is...hah, oh wow, he starts checking the downed bodies for valuables. Seems he hasn’t changed.

What do you do?

>Use Mislead to turn invisible, sneak up to the treasure room whilst everyone is distracted

You cast your spell and you disappear as an illusionary double appears in the same spot. At your mental command it runs out of the door to lead the thieves on a merry chase.

[AE 31/56]

As Jathrul goes to follow it, you grab him by the arm “Stick with me” you say.

“Sallazar?” he asks, sounding unsure.

“Right” you say “What’s the quickest way to the treasure room?”

“Stairs at the end of the hall” he says “Am I invisible too?”

“No” you say “so try not to be seen.”

With your double running around making noise, the two of you easily make it to the treasure room. It’s protected by a huge iron door riddled with padlocks and bolts.

You tell Jathrul to check the door for traps as you keep a lookout in the empty corridor.

He takes his tools out and gets to work, after a few minutes he says proudly “All disarmed, now just give me a few more and I’ll have these-”

“No time” you say, casting your spell and knocking on the door. All of the bolts slide back and the padlocks spring open.

[AE 34/56]

“The illusion won’t keep them busy forever” you tell Jathrul “We need to find the breastplate quickly.”

“Right, right” says Jathrul, rubbing his hands together gleefully as he follows you inside.

Inside the room are dozens of sturdy wooden boxes. You open them easily and tear through the boxes, looking for Thrandels Breastplate. After a thorough search you find it wrapped in a dirty cloth towards the back of the room, you remove its covering delicately.

Behind you Jathrul is eagerly stuffing his pockets with gold.

The breastplate is just as you remember it: a heavy reinforced thing coloured gold and bearing the Greensteel insignia on it. You smile, recalling how Thrandel always complained that it was so heavy it felt like he was carrying his whole houses legacy with him when he wore it.
>>
The last time you saw this Thrandel was running to keep the drow back to give you enough time to break the wall and stop the invaders. You saw the rubble pouring down on him; you were too far away to save him, too exhausted. No, those are just excuses, you failed him.

Your fingers tighten on the edges of the breastplate and you screw your eyes up to deny the tears that are ready to burst forth. You breathe slowly, trying to bring your emotions under control. When you open them again, you notice a dark stain on the top of the breastplate, it looks like...

“He didn’t even bother to wipe your blood off your armour when he took it from you did he Thrandel” you whisper. Within you anger and sadness struggle and threaten to overwhelm you.

Even in the midst of your grief, your mind is still working. You searched this room thoroughly to find the breastplate, and in doing so you found plenty of other treasures.

A conservative estimate would put the total value of the non-magical coin and items here at around 20,000 gold.

There’s also a half-dozen magic items here including weapons, light armour and a wand.

But its all stolen; really you should hand it in to the Veltwing city guards...for them to pocket most of it themselves you think cynically. Perhaps Jathrul deserves some sort of reward too, you can still hear him grabbing as much as he can.

What do you do?

>Take it all (requires defeating the thieves first, or teleporting with it – which?)
>Take as much as you can easily carry, then leave

You full your pockets and pouches with gold and valuable items, making sure to take all of the magical items as well – you can identify them later.

When you’re carrying so much treasure that you jingle you say to Jathrul “enough, time to leave.”

[3,000 gold gained]
[6 magic items gained: wand; shortsword; whip; chain shirt; belt; headband]
[Greensteel Breastplate gained]

“Just a bit more!” begs Jathrul, bent double under the weight of what he’s carrying.

“No” you say “We go now!” and touching him, you teleport out of there to an empty alleyway far away, somewhere near Jathruls shack. There’s only the two of you around.

“Urgh...” says Jathrul, not taking the teleportation well.

When he’s recovered he takes a few steps away as if to leave, then turns to face where he thinks you are, still carrying all his treasure.

You’re cradling the heavy breastplate in your arms, the breastplate Jathrul took from the body of your closest friend.

“So uh, we’re even?” he says “You’ll remove the spell?”

>>41175116
We literally did that in PoJ.
We didn't even bother paralyzing actually. We just knocked him out.
Its incredibly easy.
>>
>>41175042
Hard choice but...
>Let him leave, but don’t remove the spells
Just in case the thiefes catch him.
>>
Welp, looks like Jathrul reached the end of his usefulness.
>>
>>41175042
>>Remove both spells
then

>Persuade him to come to the school and help your club
>>
>>41175128
So the situation would just require us to send him to kill someone of extreme mercy and power.

That's so likely.
>>
>>41175116
>someone looks for the guy that robbed the thieves guild
>catches him
>finds out he can't talk because of geas
>knocks him out

Or he could just threaten to torture him to make him talk about all the things he can talk about. Since our geass was hardly loophole free.
>>
>>41175145
>So the situation would just require us to send him to kill someone of extreme mercy and power.
I have no idea what you're trying to say here.

The principle we applied there would have worked with anyone, the specific people involved don't matter. It just needs to be someone who is as powerful as Sallazar.
>>
We're playing a psychopath that should be let nowhere near children, it seems.
Edgy.

Now there come important questions
Have we left anything that can be used to scry for us behind
And
Why the hell haven't we burned this shithole before leaving
>>
>>41175205
are you personally from some third world shithole where this is considered a valid reason to murder someone in cold blood?

or do you think that sallazar is a psychopath?
I guess he is a wizard so it would make some sense. It just makes him kinda hypocritical when talking of things like teamwork, trust, morality etc...
>>
>>41175243
>Why the hell haven't we burned this shithole before leaving
Because the fire would have most likely sprung over to other nearby buildings and caused a potentially large aranging conflagration killing dozens of innocents in the process?
>>
>>41175248
>are you personally from some third world shithole where this is considered a valid reason to murder someone in cold blood?
Maybe you should try this "role-playing" thing, in which you portray the actions of a person that perhaps doesn't share your cultural values.

And the fact that "murder hum" was a option ever since we heard about what he did, its pretty obvious where Sallazar comes from this IS worth murdering him over.
>>
>>41175158
Salazar is a pretty strong wizard, it's a little difficult to imagine there's anyone that would be anyone interested in the matters of this guild, able to defeat his spell and foolish enough to think that antagonizing a Capital-W Wizard is worth the 3,000 gold and handful of magic items we took.

Unless one of them is secretly an artifact of doom/anti-doom.

>>41175192
I think it's kinda funny how Salazar wants to help and protect the girls when he himself is more broken than any of them. Except maybe Tisinia.

But this isn't much of an edgy action, Salazar's anger is mostly justified. Personally, I just have a hard time killing people that aren't hurting others or getting in the way, and even that varies depending on how important the way in question is.

>>41175277
It's less that it's socially acceptable and more that he is extremely pissed over the whole "desecrated his blood-brother's corpse for personal gain instead of bringing back his body" thing, I think.
>>
>>41175277
not that guy but man, please dont bring the roleplaying, or in character, arguement up. not everyone play the quest like that
>>
>>41175303
>It's less that it's socially acceptable and more that he is extremely pissed over the whole "desecrated his blood-brother's corpse for personal gain instead of bringing back his body" thing, I think.
I see no reason why both can't be true.
As far as we can see it emulates a mostly medivalish/renaissance mindset, and then killing someone for corpse desecration was considered a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

>>41175310
>not everyone play the quest like that
These people will have to understand that most others don't give a shit about their opinion then.
>>
>>41175323
fair enough, but same goes for everyone, really. also sorry, forgot to remove name
>>
>>41175277
Ok. So maybe we took a concept of honor murder from the dwarves or someone. I wonder what other murderhobo concepts we picked up.

>murder him was an option
there was also option to murder helpless prisoners in paladin quest, and it would be just as retarded to take. The only difference was that OP was compelled to point out that there's risk of falling involved.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
>>
>>41175303
>Salazar is a pretty strong wizard, it's a little difficult to imagine there's anyone that would be anyone interested in the matters of this guild, able to defeat his spell and foolish enough to think that antagonizing a Capital-W Wizard is worth the 3,000 gold and handful of magic items we took.

Well, it was pretty strongly hinted this Hostern was some sort of created or at least modified being.
And 'someone' did that. We can't even be sure he led the guild in the first place.
Its a fantasy setting, weird shit can happen.

I wouldn't argue we absolutely needed to kill him for reasons of safety, even if it helps.
It did however tip the balance in favour of killing him for me.
>>
>>41175352
>there was also option to murder helpless prisoners in paladin quest
I don't remember that. And even if it was the case, that doesn't disprove my point.
Killing them WAS a thing that was reasonable to do within the context of the situation and characters.
I never said that killing him is or would be considered the 'right' thing to do.
>>
>>41175376
So it's just an option you think Sallazar would take.

Which brings me to initial point that it makes him really fucked up and probably unfit to serve as a teacher.
>>
>>41175403
Soldiers rarely are
>>
>>41175303
>But this isn't much of an edgy action, Salazar's anger is mostly justified
Sallazar has what he came for - the breastplate. He certainly has reasons to be angry at the thief, like him calling him names earlier. But he did help him recover the relic, against his will or not.
>>
>>41175352
>Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

And just because you shouldn't doesn't mean you won't.

Sal has a very personal grievances against this person, and has been put on the razor's edge of temper when he learned that this supposed loyal spy looted his best friend and beloved dwarven prince.

>>41175403
We've already established that Sallazar is an older PTSD Ron Weasley.
>>
>>41175403
>Which brings me to initial point that it makes him really fucked up and probably unfit to serve as a teacher.
And I say it doesn't, because its most likely considered a understandable reaction in this settings value system.
Its not the moral high ground option, doesn't mean it would be considered evil or inappropriate.
>>
>>41175423
Plenty of people with understandable reactions in a modern values system still aren't the kinds of people you want teaching children.
>>
>>41175415
>But he did help him recover the relic, against his will or not.
No, he should have recovered the corpse rather than focusing on stealing from him and his Clan.

Its obvious that not being able to recover the body is a huge deal for Sallazar and Tharandels people.
>>
“Put the treasure down” you say to Jathrul.

“What?” he says

“Put the gold down, all of it” you say

“Why?” he asks, looking suspicious

“I’m going to end the spells” you say “if you’ve picked up any magical objects that might interfere, and things might go...wrong.” It’s all a lie of course, but Jathrul seems to believe you.

He puts down the box of gold he’s carrying, and empties his pockets and pouches onto it.

Finally he says “well?” and gives you an expectant look.

“Betrayers Reward” you say. As you invoke the contingent spell Jathrul simply disintegrates, he doesn’t have enough time to curse you, or even look surprised.

And then you’re alone in the alleyway, after killing a helpless person whom you had enslaved.

You start to pile your own stolen goods atop the box, ready to levitate it and then teleport back to the inn. You put the breastplate down first, and then start piling up other valuables and coin.

All whilst the Greensteel Breastplate seems to stare at you.

“What?” you ask it “What was I supposed to do Thrandel?”

The breastplate doesn’t respond.

“Oh sure” you say “I *could* have let him go. And when they found him, and tortured him, and maybe found a mage who could break my spells, what then?”

The Breastplate is still silent.

“What, you think I did it because I was scared?” you ask “I’m not – I could have turned that whole building into a smoking ruin, and you know it! You think I’m scared of them sending killers after me? Every assassin they have could have come at me at once and I wouldn’t be scared. We found the Kirukan together Thrandel – the best dark elf assassin they have, and we beat them! I’m not scared!”

The Breastplate still doesn’t respond to your outburst. But maybe, just maybe, you can hear Thrandel speaking. You remember when he sent that knight away.
>>
>>41175421
not loyal, dude was serving time because he was caught iirc
>>
“The measure of a good leader is in the loyalty of those who follow him” Thrandel had said, sat in judgement of the knight, after he’d blamed you for the battle losses that day, losses that were as a result of the knights poor orders.

“The loyalty of others is not your right, or even mine” Thrandel had said “We must earn it, every day, by deed and word. We cannot allow fear, or anger, or a desire for retribution to overcome us. We must rise above these things, we must be an example for others to follow.”

You realise its not his voice you hear, its your own “We must rise above these things, we must be an example for others to follow.” you finish.

You stare at the spot where Jathrul was standing, only moments ago. Then you sit down on the box, and start to cry.

“I never meant to kill you Thrandel, I’m so sorry, forgive me....”

[6,000 gold gained]
---
The next morning, you rise late, in fact you only wake when you hear a fist banging on your door.

“Professor are you coming to breakfast?” Its Cleya. You open your eyes and look around, and the events of last night come flooding back. Last night you kept enough of your wits to hide all the loot.

“I’ll, I’ll be down in a few minutes” you croak out. You hear Cleya walking away.

Right, yes, must get washed, dressed, must be a teacher, must be an example.

You head downstairs and join the girls at the breakfast table, barely hearing their conversation, something about to one of the city parks this morning, before your designated meeting at midday, to officially present your team for registration.

What are you doing today? (before registration)

Enough to murder people over in a dank alleyway, apparently.

>>41175676
Not sure if we're actually legally required to do so in this setting. I mean, how many times have adventurers taken down thieves guilds and looted the place with no trouble from the guards?

Also, we'd only really have to explain it to the Headmaster, who is probably as cynical as us when it comes to the moral fiber of underpaid guardsmen around large amounts of wealth.
>>
>>41175676
Nah, we could use it to fund the club. The headmaster will probably understand if Sallazar properly explains to him.

Besides, the guard is going to take it for itself anyway, might as well put to good use instead.

>>41175698
I asumed that was intentional.

>>41175723

Of course we don't.

You head out with the girls as they go out to the park. Its a beautiful autumn day and the sunlight brings out the varied colours in the leaves as you all walk through the gardens.

You see sculptures of local artists, impossible-looking fountains and ponds with water flowing uphill, rolling acres of meticulously maintained lawn for people to sit and eat picnics on, rare trees and plants imported from across the continent, and birds of all shapes and sizes, and of glorious colours.

At least, you register that those things are there, as you walk with the girls; they’re of little interest to you right now.

You keep reliving the events of last night, what you did, and how Thrandel would have reacted, had he been there.

You’re quiet throughout your walk in the gardens. And it’s no surprise that it does not go unnoticed.

You all stop for a drink and a small repast, before leaving. You leave the girls at a table whilst you collect the food, and catch the tail-end of a whispered conversation as you come back, trying to avoid dropping the platter of food as you approach slowly.

“You ask him” whispers Nevyn.

“Why don’t you?” demands Cleya

“I don’t know what to say” protests Nevyn “Kittrane-”

“No” says Kittrane “he needs space, leave him alone, and leave me alone.”

“Chame?” asks Cleya “Could you cheer him up, claim you’re in love with his hat and want to elope with it or something?”

“No way, no how, nuh uh” says Chame, shaking her head frantically “Oh shh, he’s back!”

You sit down, and share the plates out, without speaking. Finally, Cleya plucks up the courage.

“Uhm sir” she says “are you sick? Is it something Chame did?”

“Hey!” protests Chame “I did n- uh,” she catches your eye, and then shuts up, and goes back to eating. But you can still feel her attention on you, as the other three look at you.

“It made me angry” you say “and sad, and ashamed” you look at Chame “and as a result I said some things I shouldn’t have, Chame” she looks up at you, still looking a little scared “I’m sorry for what I said Chame, I was wrong and I shouldn’t have said it. I can’t take those words back, but I want you to know that I’d never hurt you – I mean that.”

All the gazes shift to Chame, you gives a slightly shaky smile “Ok sir, um, that’s ok, all forgiven.”

Ah good, it seems Chame will get over what happened between you after a-

“But if you’re feeling guilty” says Chame, leaning in and almost whispering “my grades in Arcane Theory could use a little boost-”

The other three girls all groan and pelt Chame with bits of food. As Chame laughs you think yeah, she’s over it.
---
“That’s it?” You ask the Adventurers League Official

“Of course Sir” he says with a small smile “did you think there’d be more?”

“Well, yes” you say.

You are all at the Lysvan Adventurers guild and a balding old man has taken your name, and the names of the girls with you, and then signed your club registration forms. And that’s it. You’re all sat in a small office.

“You’re not going to I dunno, check they’re not illusions?” You ask

“Or check if we’re really gir-hmmm!” Chame cuts off as Kittrane helpfully claps a hand over her mouth.

“Are they illusions?” asks the Adventurers League Official, with that same small smile.

“Uh, no” you say, still wrong-footed “But-”

“You’ve filled out the forms, you are from a recognised school, welcome to the Junior League” says the Official “Now, here is the rulebook” he hands to a thick book “and the League match-booking requirements” a much thinner book “And, ah yes, your team, Felstrum”

“Fell Storm” you say
>>
“Hey how about Fell Strumpet-” Kittrane helpfully gags Chame again.

“Yes, anyway” says the official “You’ve registered as evil, an excellent choice” and he hands you a piece of paper.

It reads

Evil Party Rules
Congratulations on choosing the Smart Path to Success

Evil Parties benefit from the following special rules

i) Evil Spells: Can use up to Rank 4 *evil* spells in competitions; they are limited to Rank 1-3 spells for non-evil spells. The default limit is rank 3 for all teams.

ii) Evil Gear: The number of magic items each member can have is increased from 3 to 5, these two additional items must be *evil* magic items.

iii) Minions: Each party member can have one of the following:
- One Strong Minion (Large elemental, Vampire, moderately powerful demon or equivalent);
- Two Medium-strength Minions (Medium elemental, Ghost or Ghast, minor demon or equivalent);
- Five Weak Minions (Small elemental, zombie or skeleton or equivalent).

The party member must demonstrate the ability to control these themselves, though items that enable this are permitted.

iv) Capture and Torture*: Upon capturing an enemy, including another adventurer, the evil team can ask them up to three questions, which they must answer correctly, though they can omit details not requested. Truth spells are used to confirm honestly

*Actually torturing anyone is grounds for disqualification, and possible criminal charges.

We wish you all the best on your path to world domination!

---

All the girls lean in to read the leaflet.

“Can I have some dancing skeletons?” asks Chame

“When are we going to get magic items?” asks Nevyn.

“What counts as evil?” asks Kittrane. You suspect that’s in the rulebook.

I found myself wondering last night if Chame could turn into a boy.

I may have been on a /d/ TG thread at the time. But that's beside the point.

>I found myself wondering last night if Chame could turn into a boy.
She could take the shape of one.

You hand out coins to the girls and tell them to have a good time, and to be back at the inn by 6pm, for you to all pick up your bags, and get on the lightning rail.

When the thanks and hugs are over (did someone just grab your ass?) you set out for the Greensteel holdings, alone.

The Greensteel clan is large, as expected of a ruling clan, and so they are spread out. Here in Veltwing they are heavily involved in the banking industry.

You take a cab to the Greensteel headquarters: a vast stone building bearing their coat of arms. Inside there are rows of cashiers, desks for depositing valuables, desks for letters of payment, an entire section for borrowing money, and other obscure financial functions.

You head to the enquiries desk and after explaining why you’re here, and showing your military papers you are shown into a small room where a pair of elderly dwarves examine the breastplate.

The converse in quiet dwarven, apparently unaware that you’re fluent in it.

“This is the royal armour, to be sure” says one

“Should we call the guard?” asks the other “he might have stolen it”

“Not our call, get the Director.”

One dwarf goes to the door, calls over a young dwarven boy and hands him a hastily written note saying “Office of Director Genhardt”

Genhardt, where have you heard that name befo- ah, yes, your trial. He demanded you be executed.

You start mentally rehearsing the gestures and words to raise your Spell Mantle.

Finally the boy comes back, panting and out of breath “The Director” he gasps “The Director demands to see you, now!”

The two elderly dwarves lead you up to an office on the top floor of the building. You pass through a door carved with runes and feel a wash of magic cover you as you enter. Ah yes, that’s familiar, Thrandel had something similar on the doors to his throne room.

Any magic in here will be very difficult to cast, you’ll struggle to even cast anything except Abjuration spells.
>>
The dwarves lay the breastplate on a truly massive desk in the middle of the room, then retreat.

In this vast room there is only you...and a smartly-dressed dwarf staring out of the window, with his back to you.

You wait, finally he speaks “I suppose you want thanking for that” he says, yup, its Genhardt alright. He speaks perfect common tongue, with a high-class Lysvan accent.

He’s Thrandels distant cousin, and no matter how much wealth and political power he gains, he will never be King. Thrandel told you this one evening, told you of the jealousy that drives him, the avarice and the bitterness.

Genhardt will take the breastplate back, of that you have no doubt, but your name won’t be spoken at all when he returns it.

What do you do?

>Just leave, you did what you came for (exclusive)
>Ask why he wanted you killed
>Ask what will become of the breastplate now

“I didn’t do this for your thanks” you say, and then turn and walk out, but not before you hear Genhardt say loud enough for you to hear “Clanless filth.”

You keep walking, and you keep a grip on your temper.

Once you’re outside the Greensteel Bank Head Office you can breathe again without feeling like there are iron bands around your chest.

You still have several hours yet before your lightning rail ride home. But what to do?

You could wander around the city, or go and buy some things for the club, or yourself. Some of your purchases will need to be delivered of course.

Or you could catch up with the girls, or work on magic items, or do something else.

Getting some souvenirs for the girls who couldn’t come would be the right thing to do, so you start trawling the shops for gifts and objects they might like.

You also think about adventuring gear and training gear for the club.

[Meta]

This is in the Classes and Races pastebin at the bottom, re-posted in thread for convenience.

Training Equipment

Weights
You buy a professional set of weights for the adventurers club
Weights increase Training Point gain by 100% when used, but these extra training points can only be used to increase Strength, Constitution or Hit Points.
You have enough weights for 2 girls to use them at a time, per set of Weights you buy.
Cost: 100gp

Combat Wheels
This complex array of poles has wooden bars sticking out of them at different heights. When spun they create an unpredictable maze of hazards for the adventurer in training to dodge through and avoid.
Combat Wheels increase Training Point gain by 100% when used, but these extra training points can only be used to increase Agility or purchase the Dodge feat
You have enough for 2 girls to use them at a time, per set you buy.
Cost: 75gp

Moving Training Dummies
Essentially human-sized puppets controlled by a series of levers, these dummies are much more fun that the ones that don’t move.
Moving Training Dummies increase Training Point gain by 100% when used, but these extra training points can only be used to buy Melee Combat or any melee weapon skill or feat.
You have enough for 2 girls to use them at a time, per set you buy.
Cost: 150gp
>>
Apprentices Circle
A ritual circle designed to help novice arcane spellcasters focus their energies.
Moving Training Dummies increase Training Point gain by 100% when used, but these extra training points can only be used to increase Arcane Energy, and Rank 1 spellcasting or Rank 1 spells.
You have enough for 1 girl to use at a time, per circle you buy.
Cost: 250gp – this is material costs and assumes you’ll be creating it yourself, otherwise the cost would be 1,000gp+
Divine and Primordial versions of this exist, but you cannot craft them yourself.

Adepts Circle
A ritual circle designed to help adept arcane spellcasters focus their energies.
Moving Training Dummies increase Training Point gain by 200% when used, but these extra training points can only be used to increase Arcane Energy, and Rank 1 or 2 spellcasting or Rank 1 or 2 spells.
You have enough for 1 girl to use at a time, per circle you buy.
Cost: 2,000gp – this is material costs and assumes you’ll be creating it yourself, otherwise the cost would be 10,000gp+
Divine and Primordial versions of this exist, but you cannot craft them yourself.

Adventuring Gear
Every piece of adventuring gear is not tracked individually; instead they are purchased in broad categories.
Your adventurer parties can only select from available club equipment, plus any you provide yourself.

Basic Gear
Your club has adventuring gear for the girls to use.
Includes but is not limited to: ropes, spikes, hammer, 10ft pole, lamps, backpacks, caltrops
Cost: 100gp

One-handed Melee Weapons
Your club has a variety of one-handed melee weapons for the girls to use
Cost: 50gp

Two-handed Melee Weapons
Your club has a variety of two-handed melee weapons for the girls to use
Cost: 100gp

Ranged Weapons
Your club has a variety of ranged weapons and ammunition for the girls to use
Cost: 150gp

Light Armour
Your club has a variety of light armour for the girls to use
Cost: 500gp
>>
Medium Armour
Your club has a variety of medium armour for the girls to use
Cost: 2,000gp

Heavy Armour
Your club has a variety of heavy armour for the girls to use
Cost: 5,000gp

Healing Potions
Your club has enough healing potions for 1 per girl per dungeon
Cost: 2,000gp
Can be purchased multiple times to allow multiple healing potions per trip
The cost can be reduced if you recruit the right trainers

[End Meta]

15 minutes to discuss what gear to buy, if there’s no consensus, a vote will be called.

For souvenirs and gifts, please write-in suggestions. Those girls without a suggested gift will probably get some cloth and/or jewellery-making stuff – as the other girls have bought for themselves.

Maybe, but we have 3 or 4 girls that want to learn magic and the circles can only handle one at a time. I wouldn't bet on only two girls wanting to learn one of the physical things during a single session, and those are cheap as hell, so I figured getting 2 of each wasn't a big deal.

>>41177801

>>
>>41177837
Club funds 250 gold

Your money 9,300 gold
>>
>>41177855
>>41177861
So one of each on rotation then?
And then adventuring gear, which comes out to:
2325 for training equipment and
2800 for adventuring gear, sans heavy armour and basic gear.
For 5125 total.
Unless you want to get double of weights, wheels and training dummies along with getting one apprentice circle, then it comes out to 5700 total.
>>
>>41177855
I was assuming we'd be doing group training sessions like we previously had, both because team building and because it might eat into our ability to do other things if we split up training sessions like that.
>>
>>41177916
>Unless you want to get double of weights, wheels and training dummies along with getting one apprentice circle, then it comes out to 5700 total.
That seems sensible to me. Maybe 2x Apprentices Circle in addition to the one Adepts circle. For 6100
>>
>>41177916
Why are we not getting basic adventuring gear?

It's also sans Healing Potions with that price tag.
>>
>>41177936

>>
>>41177950
We will get druids to make potions
Also why is spell list in quest rules anyway?

Maybe we should also see if there's a priest willing to offer cleric training to the girls in local church.

Although I'm not too keen on letting evil priests near the girls. Are there rules to the effect of evil teams being penalised for use of good-aligned priest magic?
>>
>>41177930

To clarify

This purchase

Basic Gear
Your club has adventuring gear for the girls to use.
Includes but is not limited to: ropes, spikes, hammer, 10ft pole, lamps, backpacks, caltrops
Cost: 100gp

Is for things the girls can take into dungeons.

You have training versions of some of this stuff, but the training gear you will not be taking into dungeons.

If you want ropes and lamps and caltrops in dungeons, then you spend 100 gold on it.
>>
So perhaps
2 Weight, -200 GP
2 Combat Wheels, -150 GP
2 Moving Training Dummies, -300 GP
2 Apprentices Circle, -500 GP

Basic Gear, -100 GP
One-handed Melee Weapons, -50 GP
Two-handed Melee Weapons, -100 GP
Ranged Weapons, -150 GP
Light Armour, -500 GP
Medium Armour, -2000 GP
Healing Potions -2000 GP

For 6050 GP?

>>41177998
>I said that QM said that we already have it.
>I see no reason to buy it if we already have it.
We don't, we have Basic TRAINING gear. Not basic ADVENTURING gear.
>>
Hey OP if we force druids to make potions how much would we save?
>>
>>41178028
I'd dump Healing Potions for an Adepts Circle.
>>
>>41177984
>>41177998
And, err, yes, you are right. I done goofed. Basic training gear, not basic gear.
I suppose that's either 5800 or 6050. Latter including two apprentice circles and former including one apprentice circle. Neither includes heavy armour and healing potions.
>>
>>41178049
Buying Healing Potions means we have always at least one potion per girl, thats way better than the measly bonus of Adept, which only becomes actually relevant once one of the girls can actually cast Rank 2 spells.
>>
>>41178028
Change it to
1 Weight, -200 GP
1 Combat Wheels, -150 GP
2 Moving Training Dummies, -300 GP

>>
>>41178045
about 75% of the price
>>
>>41178053
To make for easy reading of what is included.
2 Weight, -200 GP
2 Combat Wheels, -150 GP
2 Moving Training Dummies, -300 GP
2 Apprentices Circle, -500 GP
1 Adept Circle, -2000 GP

Basic Gear, -100 GP
One-handed Melee Weapons, -50 GP
Two-handed Melee Weapons, -100 GP
Ranged Weapons, -150 GP
Light Armour, -500 GP
Medium Armour, -2000 GP

For 6050 GP
Is my suggestion.
>>
>>41178061
It becomes relevant immediately because it's a 200% bonus instead of 100% and functions perfectly well with L1 spells.
>>
>>41178063
>We will get druids or our ranger to do it for less
Our ranger is unliely to be able to make magic items, and negotiating with the druids for healing potion supply seems like it would be a huge headache that we can easily save ourselves.
>>
>>41178090
I'll take a headache over wasted gold any day of the week.
>>
>>41178085
>It becomes relevant immediately because it's a 200% bonus instead of 100%
Which means at most 1 trainings point more compared to the Apprentice Circle. Nah, not worth it.
>>
>>41178106
1 Training Point per session that's ever done with it.

Yeah, worth it, especially compared to buying Healing Potions before we get any kind of discount.
>>
>>41178104
And how long do you think this negotiation will take?
Because they are not going to just do it for free either.
>>
>>41178128
Probably a thread, maybe two.
Obviously, but it'll still be cheaper than buying them outright.
>>
>>41178128
1500 gold saved
>>
>>41178152
Minus what we invest in convincing them.

Why don't we just focus on teaching one of the girls to make them?
Way more sustainable.
>>
>>41178175
I can respect that. Parties love alchemists/healers.
>>
>>41178175
>>41178196
Doesn't it take Wizardy/Sorcery 3 to make potions here?
Is it cheaper for Druids/Priests?
>>
>>41178065
Seems like we have a fairly clear consensus.
As far as I can see only one anon opposed the >>41178075
version in favour of Healing Potions.

How we make those and get the discount remains to be seen, but thats a different question.

One hand melee 50
Two hand melee 50
Ranged 150
light armor 500
2x Apprentices circle 500
2x Weights 200
2x Combat Wheels 150
2x Moving Training Dummies 300

For 2,000 gold

And the maybe’s as

Adepts Circle 2500
Medium armor 2000
Healing potions 2000

Souvenirs

The following ideas have been put forward for gifts

Something that keeps cool or protects against heat for Anlanesa, maybe some nevermelting ice if they have something like that.
I like the four dimensional cube for Calluna.
Evrumine seems like the type to enjoy sweets, so that would be a decent idea.
Horseshoes and a riding crop for Phaysis.
Some horn decoration for Evrumine.
A snowglobe for Anlanesa

I am constructing a vote which will be yes/no for adept circle, medium armour and healing potions, and yes/no for gift ideas, with a no defaulting to dress and jewellery-making stuff.

This will go up in 10 minutes or so, subject to people wanting different things added or removed
>>
>>41178175
>Minus what we invest in convincing them.
And you really expect it to exceed 1500 gold? What is your argument for not even seeing what they want for cheaper potions before spending 2000 gold?

>Why don't we just focus on teaching one of the girls to make them?
Probably requires a significant amount of that girl's time for each potion and would take even longer than persuading the druids for cheap but quite possibly less effective healing potions, depending on how skill-based it is.
>>
>>41178254
Scratch Healing potions
Also add pretty dress to our buying list
We need to look pretty
>>
>>41178255
>And you really expect it to exceed 1500 gold?
No? I'm saying we should try to make it ourselves and safe us the hassle. You confuse me with the other anon that wants to buy the 2k Potions.

>>41178255
>quite possibly less effective healing potions, depending on how skill-based it is
Definitly not, its generic potions, its not going to be more or less effective, at worst the discount is less.
And how long it would take for her is something Pally would need to clarify.
>>
>>41178254
A ribbon for Phaysis, something she can wear and looks good in all her forms. I doubt she'd appreciate the horse stuff.

>>41178276
We are not a trap.
>>
>>41178221
Only the cost of reagents since it's done in-house. Also gives the bonus of having access to wizard/sorcerer spells. I mean, I still prefer asking druids for it.

Yes to adept circle and medium armor.
Yes to gifts.
Also your prices differ from previously posted ones. Are the ones in your latest post valid? In either case, yes.

>Horseshoes and a riding crop for Phaysis.
Literally why?
Thats fucking stupid.

>A snowglobe for Anlanesa
Because she is .. icy, I guess?
>>
>>41178298
Sallazar is feminine enough for it. He can definitely trap.
>>41178254
I'm fine with all of that.
>>
>>41178254

That sounds like an awful gag gift.
>>
>>41178317
Horseshoes are an ok gift.
>>
>>41178330
I mean, if we were another student, I would actually consider it. But as teacher its pretty inappropriate.
>>

Don't we have a beard?
And weren't we likened to Rupert last thread?
>>
>>41178323
He has a beard, and despite being mistaken for female has acted typically masculine. Stop injecting your shitty fetishes into the game.
>>
>>41178254
please scratch the riding crop, that one's really, really stupid. Not sure about horseshoes, although I imagine she might use these. Other than that no issues.
>>
>>41178351
Yes.
>>41178345
And yes.
>>
>>41178344
>>41178356
She doesn't actually use horseshoes. She is not a horse for most of the time. And then her regular shoes transform into such.

I think some have the misunderstanding to think Phaysis is regularly in centaur form, but she isn't.
>>
>>41178348
>>41178351
He has a beard, but has been mistaken for a female twice; behavior has nothing to do with this either.
>>
Adding medium armour to certain list, removing horseshoes and riding crop as gag gift

Eh, better just forget all the horse stuff, just in case. Cloth and jewelry is safe option.
>>
>>41178298
>Inb4 we accidentally buy her a ribbon that means something unfortunate
>>
>>41178365
When we met Phaysis, she was in her centaur. It's an entirely wrong assessment,
>>41178393
Nah, keep the horseshoes.
Also add a religious idol or something.
>>
>>41178406
I don't think anyone expects the teachers to know what these mean, so the chances are slim.
Honestly buying them jewlery is already suggestive enough.
>>
>>41178382
Actually yes it does. only those wanting to act female and be treated as such are Traps. Sallazar is a dude, and wants to be treated like a dude. He would not wear a dress. The closest thing he would wear is his Wizarding robe. Stop trying to turn the MC into your shitty fetish. It's especially OOC considering how much being mistaken for a girl grates on him.
>>
So, when we get back to the school does anyone else want to deal with the scalpers? At least the orc.
>>
>>41178406
We should just buy everyone ribbons
Including headmaster and staff
Even ourself
Maybe druids too to make them help us
>>
>>41178382
How and when?
>>
>>41178420
Suggestive how? It's just souvenir junk.
>>
>>41178419
>When we met Phaysis, she was in her centaur.
Because she was playing catch with Nevyn, She is not regularly in her centaur form, and again, even when she is her regular shoes transform into horseshoes anyway.

So no, its a completly accurate assesment.
>>
>>41178427
Let's turn them into statues and animate them as guardians for the school.
>>
>>41178393
Thank you.
>>
>>41178425
I kinda see him buying dress to make joke on the fact that everyone mistakes him for girl
>>
>>41178427
>does anyone else want to deal with the scalpers?
When the opportunity arises obviously. Its not really something we can set out to do, given that the Headmaster would have obviously done that already if it were that easy.
>>
muh adept circle, pls don't go away
>>
>>41178419
A religious idol of what? For who? Nobody even praises.

There is already a ribbon for being in our club, per school regulations.

>>
>>41178602

What makes you think she enjoyed being raised by nuns or had any particular religious affinity for the deity?
She got sent away because they couldn't keep her in check. There is nothign suggesting she is particularly religious.
>>
>>41178642
>I feel so bad about not being able to get her a unique gift, man.
Honestly she is one of two girls getting "default" so it will probably end up being unique anyway.

Just not customized, but we simply don't know her that well yet.

Guys!

It's a fairly safe and logical conclusion, anon. She was sent away because she accidentally burnt down the orphanage (because of fire hair). There is nothing suggesting she is not religious.

Its really not. She didn't go there because she wanted to. There is nothing suggesting she is particularly religious, and in absence of evidence either way, I see no reason to make the assumptiom she is.

>>
>>41178730
Being raised in a religious environment most often leads someone to be, surprise, religious. Upbringing works like that. So yes, it's a logical conclusion for anyone to make, that's how it works in real life as well.
If, by any chance, Phaysis is not religious and receives a religious gift, then what? It's a learning experience with no bad consequence. Or do you think she will throw it to the ground, curse the MC and run away? Your constant need to be "safe" with small things like these is flabbergasting and illogical.
>>
>>41178769
Let's do that then.
>>
>>41178813
>Being raised in a religious environment most often leads someone to be, surprise, religious.
Your problem is you associate the local religious culture with RL one. Which is completly wrong.

Of course she is religious in the sense that she believes in the 6 gods and what they stand for etc.
Everyone does. That doesn't mean she is particularly devout or devoted to Yselm.
>>
Please, this whole argument about religious idols is pointless as we don't have enough information to tell either way. Assumptions at this point are stupid.

drop it already. discuss waifus instead.

the elf is nice, but we can't have adequate shitpost wars until there's more. Are we getting female bard, blackguard, druid, priest?

Of course we can't, Headmaster is already best girl. No one can compete.

I don't think Blackguards are a thing, but if they are I'm likely to waifu that one.
