Pravda High School. The last piece of the trifecta that generally dominated the upper echelons of Japanese Senshado tournaments. Saunders was numbers and flexibility, and Black Forest Peak was iron resolve and training, Pravda, if what little you had heard so far was true, was brute force. Their line-up had several late-war Soviet sluggers- the 122mm-armed IS-2, T-34s, even an old KV-2 with its 6” howitzer capable of leveling a city block with one blast. And now Kazamir's T-44- an agile and heavily-armed predecessor to the T-54, among the worlds first true Main Battle Tanks.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank Black Jack. And you accidently inhale some sandwich crumbs, causing yourself to cough and sputter.

“Is okay?” Kazamir says in his thickly accented English, helpfully slapping your back a few times. “Needs water?”

You bring yourself under control with a final cough. “I'm fine.” You say, hitting your chest with your fist a few times while you blink back tears. “I'm great. How are you?”

He looks slightly surprised. “I'm fine. You're fine?”

“We're great.” You say. “Everything's great!” You look around for Miho, who's disappeared somewhere in the crowd. The last five seconds could've gone a lot better- you had a chance to make a first impression of someone ready and able to kick his but back to Moscow- erm, whatever the capital of Belorus is.

“Guess this makes us...” He stops and thinks for a moment... “Word maybe rivals?” He questions.

You blink then, pulling up every ounce of what makes you the baddest tank commander on the Pacific rim, you grin. “I guess so-” You start caughing again.

After a few more seconds of hacking and wheezing and a few sips of Sprite, you feel you've finally cleared the blockage enough to regain composure. You and Kasimir have gravitated towards the massive buffet- not by any formal planning, more like the subconscious agreement that moving towards the food was better.

“So, is there anyone else from Pravda here?” You ask, piling a platter with hunks of assorted smoked meats and cheeses. You glance at the salad area just long enough to snag a hardboiled egg from behind the dreaded leafy greens and fruits.

“Da.” Kasamir says with a shrug. “I was not only representative.” He pauses, thinking for a moment while he chews a piece of sausage. “We have school Commanders Katyusha and Nonna.” He says glancing around. “Katyusha, small but mean like babushka's little dog. Always bite and snapping.”

That seems to be a very familiar description to you. You take chunk of tri-tip. “And Nonna.”

Kasamir smiles. “Nonna... Tall, powerful. Quiet. Yes?” He closes his eyes. “Best part of day when she arrive.” He opens his eyes and grins at you. “But even better when she leave, da?” He elbows you a bit to highlight. “Great school- look back to time of glory for Soviet Union. Treat us like heroes of Patriotic War!”

Ok, I've been working on a theory since I read the last thread and I think I know what's going on. Wild Ass Guess Mode Engage!

The mysterious rich guy (who I'll call Mr. Investor) calling everyone here wants to import Japanese-style Tankery to America. To facilitate this, they're planning an exhibition match. There are two parts to this plan.

First part is sending invitations to every schoolship involved in the tournament we're participating in that got past the first round. Mr. Investor wants to set a team purely of American tankers against whoever wins the tournament, so they sent out invites early and to as many teams as possible that look like contenders. Champions of the tournament gets an all-expense-paid trip for themselves and their tanks to America where they will take part in an exhibition match.

Second part is based around putting together a team of America-based tankers to take on the Japanese team that wins. To get that, they waved money and lots of it to draw in tankers like flies to hear Mr. Investor's proposal.

Some of the locals we're meeting here might show up on the other side of the battlefield.

“Can't complain about Oorai. They treat us pretty well, too.” You say with a shrug. “Well, aside from painting my tank blue...” You give a short laugh- it wasn't that long ago, either. A few weeks? A couple months?

“Blue?”

You nod. “Well, to be fair they all ended up getting crazy paintjobs, but our School President painted Black Jack in the school colors.” He smiles at the thought. “Yeah, laugh it up. Let's paint your tank baby blue and see what you think about it...” You grumble a bit. “Aside from that- y'know they've really made us feel at home.

“What mean... Crazy paint job?” Kasamir asks.

“Well, our Lee was Pink, El Presidente painted her Pz.38t literally gold. The StuG was... There were flags involved.” You laugh a bit more at the memory. “Suffice to say, we disabused them of that idea.”

“They're new tankers?”

“Mostly, yeah.” You nod, smiling a bit. “They've grown though- buffed out some of the rough spots. Hell, we took Saunders.” That was probably a bit more of a needle than you meant, considering how Pravda had been knocked out of the semifinals a couple years back by Saunders, but Kasamir doesn't seem to mind. .
>>
“So, Katyusha and Nonna are here?”

“Da! Da!” He says. “You'd like introduction?”

A few minutes of winding through the crowd and you've come upon a small circle of tankers- You recognize Peter Kaczynski- an aggressive T-34/85 commanders around North America. A few others too- younger commanders that you didn't recognize.

The '85s were probably second only to the Sherman in raw numbers available in the US, especially after the fall of the Iron Curtain, when, quite literally, a boatload of Polish, Czech and Baltic armor became available to the west. They were mobile, decently armored, had a great gun and generally got eaten alive by Black Jack's long-ninety.

“Comrades!” Kasamir announces. “I present Commander Russells.” The conversation stops as his commanders turn to size you up.

“The Pershing Commander?” The short girl says without the usually polite tone that you'd come to expect from the Japanese. “Doesn't look that impressive to me.” She practically snorts.

Your eye twitches, but you clear your throat politely. “And you must be Katyusha?” You say, making sure to step closer so you can look down at her. You aren't exactly NBA material, but the tiny commander barely comes up to your chest. “I've heard much about you.” You look over at her taller assistant commander. “And you would be Nonna?”

Kasamir wasn't lying- Nonna was by any definition a bombshell- tall and armored in all the right places. Despite that, seems to radiate an almost palpable frost. When she looks at you, you practically feel the temperature drop.

“I would.” She extends a hand. “Pleased.” She says politely.

“Hey!” Comes a shout from below. “I wasn't done yet!” Nonna clears her throat and looks down at Katyusha. The small commander seems to grumble for a moment before sticking an expectant hand up towards you.

You shake it, before looking at the rest of the group. “Pete.” You say with a nod. “How's Frosty?”

He grins and cocks his head a bit. “Still rolling. How's the Home Islands Tour going?”

He won, though. That's like having an auto cannon or even an autocannon with HE and yet, somehow still managing to peck something to death, you feel like you shouldn't be able to.

There are times it also feels like that when you are using an "angry needle gun" like on the Churchill III against poorly armored, but high HP enemies, or punching stuff closer to your tier in the sides till it dies.

It can take a while.

You grin at him, stepping around Katyusha to give your fellow tanker a firm handshake. “Could be worse.” You say with a wink. “They painted Jack blue.”

“How'd that work out for 'em?” He asks, probably knowing the answer.

“A bit of diplomacy and it was all fixed. You looking to get a ticket over there? Frosty'd look good in Red.” You say, nodding towards the quasi-Russians.

He shrugs. “Just talking for now. Besides the tournament's already started.” Pete was a bit like you- aggressive and ambitious. If offered he'd jump at the chance. “Always good to have options.”

“He has an impressive record.” Nonna says, voice monotone.

You nod. “T-34's not an easy tank to get along in over here.” You say. “Its all search-and-destroy, and the '85s don't have the greatest optics. Makes getting that first shot a trick.”

While you were usually quick to credit Jack's gun and Rose's gunnery with your ability to win matches, the real advantage most of the time was the M26's optics and your own ability to find targets. The vast majority of engagements were won by whoever fired first. “Kasamir's record why you shipped him out to Japan?” You probe.

Nonna doesn't give much, but you see her stiffen slightly. Katyusha narrows her eyes at the T-44 commander. “You were supposed to be our secret weapon.”

The tanker grins and takes a bite of an impromptu meat-and-cheese sandwich. “He deserve to know who he lose to.” He shrugs afterwords. “Besides- male tankers, women- not matter if skilled, da?”

“Playing the honcho?” You say to the Belorusian.

“Honcho?” He says, a bit confused. “What mean?”

You're about to answer when you notice Katyusha and Nonna staring past you.

>THE UNARMOURED REARS

As opposed to the unarmoured other parts? We are talking about Japanese tanks.

When you find a warboner that impressive, it merits attention.

Is my fascist phallic symbol big enough, BJ?

I knew that was coming.

You can practically feel the feels emanating from behind you. You don't have to turn around, you just have to notice the slight twitch in Katyusha's grin before she starts to speak. “Ah, Commander Nishizumi.” She says, laying the vitriolic honey on thick. “I didn't expect to see you here.”

You narrow your eyes at the little girl- Kasamir was right; she does fit a whole lot of mean into a small package. You're about to tell her off, but you notice Nonna put a handle on her shoulder. A glance back up at Nonna's disapproving headshake and Katyusha huffs a bit. “I was just speaking with your pet American...”

You turn to see Miho approaching. She's got a good mask on, but you know her well enough. “Katyusha, Nonna.” She says with a nod. “I did not expect your presence here either.” She keeps a carefully neutral tone, but you could cut the air between the two team captains with a knife.

You clap a reassuring hand on Miho's shoulder. A good commander knows when to support his superiors and not antagonize their rivals. “Miho's already led us to victory against Saunders.” You're pretty decent. “...How's your record with them?” Alright, you're okay.

“Kay got lucky- that's all.” Katyusha says, almost pouting.

Nonna speaks up. “She is correct- the engagement area heavily favored Saunders numbers and types of tanks.”

You shrug. “All their advantages didn't matter against us.” You say, shaking Miho's shoulder. Her gaze hardens, building on the opening you provided.

“A commander wins or loses by applying her advantages to their best potential.” She says and you nearly step back. Her voice was as cold and hard as rolled steel as she glared at the girl in front of her. “Saunders used her advantages to destroy you. Just like you used your advantages last year.”

Nope.

Fun fact- before settling on the M26, I had considered using the T34 or T30, but I didn't want to have to write for six crew.

Also, the 120mm and 155mm guns quite frankly scared the crap out of me.

pic related.

Yeah, the T30 or T34 heavy would have been a bit much, for various reasons. Super Pershing's much better.

Oh god I loved the tankspectives. Should I try and write one for next week? I wanna write about the standoff between the Tiger P and Erika's King Tiger (Blau Friedrich and Grösse Meizze respectively, I think?).

>>41173279

Say where are those pictures from? I've got the pages with Darjeeling and Sodoko/Mallard Team but I still have no idea where they're from.
