You are Siegfried Schmidt, a former guard from the city of Morsland. Due to various circumstances, you have become the new wielder of Galadriel, a holy sword which houses a powerful six-winged angel of the same name. Now you have come to the White Watchtower, a fortress close to the border between the Forsaken Lands and the kingdom of Iseria, to train with the crusaders so that you can protect yourself from the demons that might come after you now that the sword is in your possession.

After arriving in Tarrin, you met Geoffrey Lione and the king of Galloway, King Alain Langlais IV. To everybody's surprise, the king recognized Daniel, and you learned that Daniel had actually been one of the king's personal guards back in the day. While they got caught up, you and the others went into town. Roland gave everyone a tour of the city, and ended his tour at the city arena. As luck would have it, there was a tournament to be held there in two days, and Roland managed to convince you and some of your honor guard to compete. Upon hearing this, Geoffrey informed you that his sister would be competing in this tournament as well, and that he would be watching your matches very closely.

Breakfast that morning goes by quickly. Daniel is busy talking with the king and princess Catherine, and half of your honor guard is in a hurry to finish, so they can prepare for the tournament tomorrow. Ganelon and Joan take their time and chat amongst themselves, since they don't plan on competing tomorrow. Reinhardt is awfully quiet throughout breakfast and excuses himself early, explaining that he “has stuff to do in town”.

You also excuse yourself as soon as you finish dinner. House Lione will no doubt be watching you carefully in tomorrows tournament, you need to be ready.

It's still early in the morning, you have plenty of time to get ready for the tournament. Besides, you'll have to return the books you borrowed from the Red Watchtower once you return, so you should try to finish reading those books while you can.

Upon returning to your room, you see that someone has already gone through and cleaned. Your bed is made, the curtains are open and letting light in, and there's even a clean set of clothes folded and set out for you on the desk. You find your backpack lying next to the new set of clothes and pull out your books. Which should you start with today?

You close the book and pack it back into your bag. Okay, that's enough reading for now. To your knowledge, there is no practice yard here for you to practice at, so you'll just have to head into town and see if there's a training yard you can use. The city guards should have a practice yard, they may let you use it if you ask. Alternatively, the arena may be open. You could practice there, maybe even see what the competition is like. Of course, you could also just explore or run some errands instead and start practice after lunch.

While training at the arena with other competitors might give you an idea of what you're up against, that goes both ways. So, you decide to go see if the city guard will let you use their practice yard to train.

The guard post is easy to find, thanks to Roland's tour yesterday. The guard post is a large, three story building with a metal plaque that reads "Tarrin City Guard Post". Beside it is a big flat yard, where the city guard are practicing. Some are being drilled by what you assume is their lieutenant, while others practice on the dummies or spar with each other. The yard is separated from the street by a stone wall, but the gate leading inside is open, so you step inside.

One of the guards notices your entrance and approaches you. "Are you lost, citizen?" He asks politely. "This is the city guard's practice yard, civilians aren't supposed to be here."

"Actually, I was wondering if I could train here, if you don't mind."

The guard raises an eyebrow. "I'm sorry sir, but as I said, civilians are-"

"Let him in Charles." The lieutenant leading the drill calls out. "He's not a normal citizen, that's the Champion. He's welcome here."

"Ah, I see. My apologies sir, I was not aware who you are."

"Don't worry about it." You tell him.

"Very well then. If I may offer though, you said you wanted to train here, correct? If that is the case, then I am willing to be your sparring partner if you need one."

You shrug. "Alright then, I appreciate it."

The guard points behind him, to a weapons rack. "Sparring weapons are over there, you should be able to find whatever you need."

I'd say you're about even between those two. Sword and shield is what you used back in the guard, but you've been using halberds pretty often since you left Morsland.

Let's go with the ol' sword and board.
>>

>>

>>Grab something from the rack (Specify)
Sword, and use our shield as well. We've been neglecting practice with them as of late.
>>
>>41083772
You consider using Galadriel, but you won't be able to use her during the tournament, so you decide it's best to practice with a mundane weapon instead. You notice that some of the guardsmen have stopped their training to watch. Some of the guards in formation attempt to watch as well, before the lieutenant shouts angrily at them to focus on the drill.

Grabbing a halberd from the rack, you and the guard, Charles you think was his name, find an empty spot in the yard and get into stances.

Now's your chance, you can get him while he's down. You swing the blade end of your halberd down hard, aiming for the guard's chest. Unfortunately, he manages to roll out of the way.

Even worse, the halberd actually breaks from the impact.

You stare at the broken halberd, dumbfounded by what just happened. It...broke? How? You put force into the swing, but not nearly enough to break it. Was it because of the strength enchantment on your glove? No, you've had time to put it through it's paces, you know it wouldn't have given you enough strength to break an iron halberd like that. So what the Void happened?

You don't have time to consider all this, as the guard has already gotten back on his feet by now. You duck under a swing from his sword, just barely avoiding it. Thinking fast, you try to kick his legs out from under him. This time however, you only manage to knock him off balance.

The weapon rack is behind you. You could run and try to grab something, or you could try something else. Alternatively, Galadriel is leaning against a wall behind your opponent.

You need to get back to the rack and grab another weapon, but turning your back and running would be a bad idea. Holding onto the broken halberd shaft, you start backing up slowly, trying to fend off your opponent with the shaft. You manage to parry a few attacks, then an idea comes to mind.

"Here, hold this."

You parry one last attack and throw the broken shaft. It hits the guard square in the face with a loud "SMACK!" While he's disoriented, you turn around and clear the rest of the way to the weapon rack. You think you hear the lieutenant say something about "always wear your helmet" as you go.

Quickly, you grab a new sword off the rack and shift your left glove into your shield. The guard is now closing in.

The guard closes the distance and swings overhead at you. However, you parry his attack with your shield, knocking it away and leaving him exposed. You swing at his stomach, causing him to double over, and follow with a a shield bash to the back of the head, knocking him face first into the ground. You then draw your sword back and thrust into the ground next to his head, a simulated coup de grace.

The guards watching start to clap. It's only then that you notice everyone in the yard has been watching, including the guards who were drilling earlier.

"Not bad, sir. As expected of the Champion." Your opponent groans, as he picks himself up off the ground slowly.

You're taken aback when you see his face. You hadn't notice in the heat of the fight, but he looks pretty banged up. There's a big nasty bruise on his face where you threw the halberd shaft, and he holds onto the back of his head where you hit him with your shield. Did you hit him that hard? You're sure you didn't, yet it looks as though you wailed on him as hard as you could.

"Are you alright?" You blurt out, already starting to cast a healing spell. The spell's light begins to soothe the guard's injuries, eventually even getting rid of the bruise on his face.

"I'm fine, thank you." He replies, rubbing the spot where his bruise used to be. "I think I'm done sparring for the day though, is that alright sir?"

"Yeah, go home and rest up Charles. You've done enough training today." The lieutenant tells him.

The guard, Charles, grabs his stuff and thanks you one last time for the match. You apoligize again for what happened, but he waves it away and tells you not to worry.

'The Void happened there?' You ask Galadriel.

'I believe you're finally starting to adapt to my powers.'
>>
>>41087543
'What do you mean?'

'As time goes on, your soul will start to adjust to better accommodate the aether we share. Over time you'll begin to grow stronger, both physically and aesthetically. Your spells should be stronger now as well, test it out.'

You shrug, and mutter an incantation for Illumination. The sphere materializes instantly, floating silently above your hand and shedding enough light to strain your eyes. You haven't used this spell in a long time, but you're sure it didn't glow this bright the last time you used it.

'As I expected, your soul is beginning to adapt. Do not worry, you will gain better control over your strength soon, just be careful for the rest of today. You should find that the powers I've given you are easier to control now as well.'

>Galadriel powers improved!
>Righteous Strength - This power now lasts for 30 minutes. Requires 1 hour of cooldown before using again.
>Angel Wings - This power can now be used twice a day rather than once a day. Each use lasts for 1 hour, and can be used consecutively. Requires 24 hours of cooldown after the second use.

So Galadriel's powers are starting to bleed through to you now, huh? You'll have to be careful for the rest of the day, but the boost to your strength should come in handy for the tournament tomorrow.

You thank the guards for letting you practice here and tell them you'll be calling it a day here. It is close to noon now, lunch should be served at the palace soon. Of course, you could eat in town instead, it would be less of a walk.

You decide to find a place to eat here. Roland showed you a few good places to eat during his tour yesterday, so you head to one of the taverns he showed you that's close by.

The tavern looks fairly busy. There's plenty of people here, but it's not like all the chairs are taken. You're actually about to sit at a table by yourself when you notice Erika and Justine sitting together. They notice you at about the same time, and Erika motions for you to come and sit with them.

"Fancy running into you out here, where have you been?" Erika asks.

"Just training, the city guard let me practice with them in the training yard. What about you two?"

"We went to the arena to train." Justine answers, before waving down one of the barmaids. The barmaid comes over to take your orders, and tells you she'll be back with them shortly.

"Lot of strong people there, Siegfried." Erika admits. "We just spared together there, but I saw some of the others practicing. They're good."

"Most of them." Justine corrects. "There are definitely some strong competitors there, but I saw a lot of sloppy fighters as well. Most of them won't get passed the first round."

The barmaid returns, bringing your food and drink. Erika takes her glass and takes a sip. "Anyways, what about you? How did your training go?"

"Well..."

You're about to tell them what happened during the sparring match when you hear a commotion coming from one of the seats behind you. Turning around, you see a very irate man with grabbing someone wearing a hooded cloak by their collar. The hood doesn't fall off, but you recognize them as the one who bumped into Reinhardt the other day. The one grabbing him, you notice, is covered in food and his clothes are wet from spilled drink. An empty plate is lying on the ground at the hooded man's feet, and an empty glass is in his hands.

"You fucking did that on purpose, didn't you?" The big man shouts.

"Yeah, sure, I just tripped and spilled my food on someone I don't know just because." The cloaked man says dryly.

"These were brand new! Now they're ruined, thanks to you."

"Looks to me like they were ruined long before I spilled anything on them. If those were new, then maybe you should stop buying clothes that look like they've been soaked in dog piss."

The man grits his teeth and leans in. "I should break your teeth for that. In fact, I-"

The man is cut off when the cloaked figure suddenly smashes his glass into the side of his head, shattering it. The big man falls on his side, seemingly knocked out.

"I think I'll eat somewhere else now. Sorry for the trouble." The cloaked man says, tossing a small bag of gold to the nearest barmaid and exiting out the door.

The tavern begins to murmur as soon as he leaves the tavern. The barmaids look at each other, unsure of what to do, before one of them finally goes over to check on the unconscious patron.

"Damn, that had to hurt." Erika offers, taking another sip of her drink. "Should we do something?"

>Go heal the unconscious patron.
>Chase after the cloaked man, smashing a glass against someone's head is a bit much.
>"Nah, they've got it covered."

Quietly, mind. Let's not rush out and just grab him.

Assuming he's even a he...

Just go up to him and 'The fuck man?' or something along those lines.

Guy is clearly important to the plot, but I guess that knowledge is a little out of character.

>Implying its not Andras scouting us out.

Ah who am I kidding, he wouldn't be able to resist screaming "SIEGFRIED" and charging us.

Speaking of which we need to ask Aleria if he is still alive or not sometime.

More like "YOU. I know you... You owe my friend a kabob, you fiend! Now, surrender and pay your dues, or suffer the wrath of my whining!"

"Do you get off on knocking food and drinks out of innocent bystanders hands or something? Because from what I've seen it certainly seems that way."

You'll admit, the guy was being a bit of an ass, but breaking a glass over someone's head is a bit much.

"I'll go catch up to the guy, wait here."

"I'll eat your food if you take too long." Erika warns you, before you head out the door.

You look around for a bit, trying to find the cloaked man in the crowd. It's not hard to spot him, given how he stands out. You have to push through the crowd a bit, but you eventually catch up to the cloaked man.

"You there, wait up." You call out. The man in the cloak stops in his tracks, but doesn't turn around to face you.

"What do you want?" He asks rudely.

>"That was a bit much, don't you think? He might have been an ass, but did you really have to break a glass over his head?"
>"It's a little hot for that cloak, don't you think? Got something to hide?"
>"You know, if you hide your face like that and start picking fights with people, sooner or later the guards are gonna want to have a word."

You cross your arms. "Do you always look for trouble where people are trying to eat? First you knocked my friend's kebab out of his hands, now you go and break a glass on someone's head."

"It's not my fault, the guy back there threatened me first. And I don't know who you are, or who your friend is."

You shrug. "Alright, fair enough. Still, did you really have to break a glass over his head?"

"You saw him, he's a lot bigger than me. What was I supposed to do?"

"Apologize, maybe not tell him his clothes looked like they were soaked in dog piss?"

"No way I'd apologize to him, and if he didn't want people telling him that, then maybe he should have washed his shirt once in a while. Or at all."

You sigh. "Are you always this difficult?"

"Yes, now leave me alone." Without waiting for a response, he starts to walk away.

"You know, if you hide your face like that and start picking fights with people, sooner or later the guards are gonna want to have a word. How the Void are you wearing that in this heat anyways?"

"Just fuck off already!" He shouts angrily, before turning past a corner and disappearing from sight.

Whelp, you don't have any proof that he's a crook, but he's certainly an asshole, and probably hiding something. Still, you're not a guard here, so you drop it for now and head back to the tavern.

----------
You head back to the palace with Erika and Justine after finishing lunch. Thankfully, you managed to get back before anyone started stealing your food, but you'll admit your encounter with the guy in the cloak did sour your mood a bit. At least the guy who got knocked out was fine, quite angry, but fine.

You're just walking up to the palace gates when you spy another familiar face. Daniel is returning to the palace, along with someone you've never seen before.

"Ah, speaking of which, here he is now. Thank you for the tea, it was wonderful." Daniel says, before parting ways with the woman he was with and joining you.

"Someone you know?" You ask him, pointing to the woman who just left.

"Not exactly, no. That was miss Celia Lione, Geoffrey's younger sister. She invited me over for tea this morning, we had an excellent discussion about dueling and the local tourneys."

"Wait, that was Celia Lione?"

"Indeed. Quite the interesting woman, very skilled with a blade from what I saw. You may have your work cut out for you Siegfried, I hope you've been using your time wisely."

Alright, I think I'm gonna have to call it a night here, as I'm getting really tired. Next thread will be Friday unless something comes up, keep an eye on the twitter just in case. Sorry for running out mid-thread folks, thanks for keeping the thread alive.

I'll be up a little longer to answer questions. If I fall asleep before I answer, just ask me on ask.fm, I'll answer once I'm awake. Thanks for playing folks, hope you all had fun despite it being a relatively short thread.
>>
Annnnnnnd /thread.
>>
>>41089296
Thanks for the thread boss.

We jumping into the tourney next thread or where we left off here?
>>
Also, before I forget, for those of you who haven't seen me say so on twitter, I'm thinking I'll be running another side story sometime soon, not sure exactly when. I'm gonna put which character to focus on up to a vote again, so I figured I'd post the list of possible characters here and make sure every character people might want to see a side story of is put on.

So far the list is:
Daniel
Erika
Ganelon
Nerillian
Justine
Joan
Roland
Reinhardt
Galadriel
Avaline
Berry
Alastor

Any more I should add before making the strawpoll?
>>
>>41089305
>We jumping into the tourney next thread or where we left off here?

I was going to pick up where we left off, but if you guys prefer, I could just do a vote at the start of the next thread for what you wanted to do with the rest of your afternoon, then skip to the tournament. Would you guys prefer to do that?
>>
>>41089344
>Berry
ha

I can already tell this will be a toss up between Galadriel and Alastor

>>41089355
I don't mind continuing where we left off.
>>
>>41089344
Joan
>>
>>41089666
Joan is on there already Satan.

I vote for stalker chan.

Let's creep out Siegfried and find out that Joan is a lair and get jelly cause we think she's dating him secretly.
>>
Next thread we have Sieg ask Daniel for some instruction to improove at CC for the duel.

>Joan is a lair

For who?
>>
>>41089344
White tower's really old elf guy
What leviathan does while bored
>>
Voting for Avenaline for yandere shenanigans or Levi hanging out in town and borrowing someones taste buds to taste some kebab.

Just woke up. Okay, so the updated list is:

Ganelon
Nerillian

>>
>>41091440
Sirus,just throwing it out there

Okay, Strawpoll's up now. I'll post the link on Twitter in a moment as well. Voting will be open until Friday, and I'll probably run the side story sometime next week.
