>It is okay, TENKA. Your GLORIOUS PARTNER shall finish the job.

“It is okay, TENKA,” you reassure him, letting him feel the strength of your conviction through your unwavering will, “You GLORIOUS PARTNER shall finish the job.”

TENKA stands before you silently, merely giving you a stiff nod before leaping into a wall and through a portal.

With the agreement between me- no Partners, you step down to the doors that stand before you and your target, Beth muttering something or another under her breath about your change.

Paying it little mind you pull on the door to find it unlocked and unguarded, grinning at the ease of the task before you, “Come on, we’re almost to the final moment where you can rest.”

“Alex this is a bad idea you know?” Beth reminds you again, starting to look just a bit nervous as she catches her breath.

>It’ll be fine, if you’re that worried I’ll take all the blame.

>It’ll be fine, if you’re that worried I’ll take all the blame.

“It’ll be fine,” you wave off her concerns and head inside, “Besides if you’re that worried I’ll take all the blame.”

“You know that never works,” Beth sighs and lets go giving you more room to walk.

Kat doesn’t bother clinging to your arm as you take more stairs down, “It does sometimes…”

“Like when?” Beth sounds skeptical, as she has trouble with the stairs; her legs not wanting to work right after that long jog.

“Like when… you take cookies from the jar and blame it on someone else?” Kat hardly sounds convinced herself.

Beth snorts and chuckles, “Has that ever worked for anyone really?”

“No… not really,” Kat admits quietly after a moment.

You chuckle at that, leading the pair to the end of the hall before hanging a left and down another set of stairs, “Seriously you both are worrying too much.”

Beth sighs but lets it go as you reach the base of the second set of stairs. The hallway is lined with doors, something like an apartment complex just without any space between any given door. Instead of a wall with doors its more like doors with some wall, each of the doors are different too. Some are the standard affair with a name painted on it, others look like something you’d find out of a mansion and made of solid oak, and a fewer still look like someone decided to take a solid trip back to the 70’s with a paint brush and a haphazard assortment of colors.

The very last door at the end of the hallway is a simple one, with just ‘William’ painted on it, you grip the handle and fling it open before you get distracted by all of the possibilities. The interior is surprisingly simple with desk in the center, tv and a bean bag infront of it in the corner, and a bed in the back end of it.

Thankfully the office is empty, and the chair behind the desk looks like a combination between a lazyboy recliner and computer chair. Something that you plan to enjoy, though the real issue arises here… There is three of you and one chair, you only have one lap as well; how to do this?

>The arms of the chair look wide enough...

>Things.

You look between the desk, the bean bag, and the comfortable looking chair, “Alright Beth, I need you to cooperate for this.”

“I already am aren’t I..?” she says hesitantly, “What do you want?”

“Grab the bean bag and bring it over here,” you say already planting your rear into the comfortable leather seat, feeling the cold leather press against the skin of your legs under the sundress before you adjust yourself.

Beth stares at you while you continue to do your best not to make eye contact, “In for a penny, in for a pound,” she mumbles before grabbing the bean bag and putting it next to the chair, “Now what?”

“You are now Number two,” you explain gesturing for her to sit in the bean bag, as you relax into the chair, “Just sit there and look disinterested or something.”

“What about me?” Kat pouts, her ears pinning against her head.

You stroke your chin, idly watching her tail flicker, “Well every good mastermind has a Kat in their lap,” you mumble loud enough for her to hear, before patting your lap, “You will be Mr. Whiskers.”

Kat continues to pout, “Mr…?”

“Well okay, Mrs. Whiskers,” you smile, patting your lap again, “Come on, we don’t know when he’ll be back.”

“You were right about it being a memorable night,” Beth admits as Kat curls up into your lap, relaxing as you start petting her.

“Of course I was, it was TENKA who suggested it after all,” you nod, certain that YOUR GLORIOUS PARTNER would NEVER LET YOU DOWN.

Number Two opens her mouth to say something, but the door opening cuts her short. Before you can stop yourself, you meet the eyes of a confused looking Bossman William; in no time at all you’ve lost the blood boiling energy Tenka had given you. Replaced by a simple lethargic feeling, and contentedness to just stay here for a while.

Williams face goes through a series of changes you don’t think you’ll ever see anyone mimic, confusion, irritation, curiosity, bafflement, followed by and settling on confusion. You get a smug contentedness about yourself as you continue to pet Mrs. Whiskers, idly realizing you should have gotten a sharpie and actually given her whiskers. A shame you missed out on that.

“Why are you in my office?” William asks lazily, as he wanders in and closes the door behind him.

“Good evening Mr. Williams,” you lazily run your fingers through your pets hair, “I was going to plan a revolution, until I sat in your chair.”

He walks forward until he’s in front of the desk, before sitting into a chair that appears beneath him, “A revolution? Seems like it’d be bothersome.”

“Number Two tried to talk me out of it the entire way here,” you shrug, and hear Beth sigh.

“Did it work then?” he leans back and absentmindedly taps his fingers.

“I wouldn’t have made it this far if it did,” you point out, “By the way, your chair is amazing, I want one.”

William watches you for a moment, “I’m not letting you have my chair.”

“Then at least tell me where you bought it,” you sink more into the comfortable cross between a recliner and computer chair.

“I broke a couple things then stitched the parts back together with magic to make that,” he explains, watching you and Kat, “Really though why’re you in my office?”

“I wanted a memorable night without it being dangerous,” you shrug, “And thought why not do something unbelievably daring? Long story short, here I am plus two.”

“That hardly explained anything,” William lazily comments, but doesn’t seem to care.

You just shrug in response and continue to sit there, Beth looks between you and William with a furrowed brow; whatever she was expecting this wasn’t it.

“So you plan on getting out of my chair anytime soon?” he wonders.

>As soon as I can muster the will, yeah.

“As soon as I can muster the will, yeah,” you nod slowly, “It might take a moment.”

William watches you for a moment, “You remind me of myself, it’s not the first impression I had of you.”

“It’s her change,” Beth sighs as she explains in your place, “She’s been taking on the personality of those she meets.”

“Ahh,” William makes an understanding noise, “I see. Well then this may be a moment.”

“You are really lethargic,” you note idly, “though since I’m here is there anything you need done?” Even just thinking it makes you cringe inwardly, but you force through it all the same.

“Hmm, well actually it’s something that’s come up recently,” he glances towards the door, “As in five minutes ago recently, but we seem to be missing a colleague. He’s always been eccentric but kept in touch at least once a month.”

“It’s nearing two now and it fell to me to go figure out if he’s died or just lost track of time,” William explains casually, “His home is troublesome to get to as it’s properly warded from teleportation.”

“So you want us to go do this for you?” Beth suggests, “Do we get anything for it?”

“I suppose if I am sending you out on an errand I should give you a reward,” he ponders, “How’s a medium strength core for each of you? I’ll teleport you as close as I can, and give you something so he’ll take you seriously.”

“What if he is dead?” you ask, not really excited about that possibility.

“Then I’ll have more work to do later,” William laments, “but if he is, you’ll walk back out of range after giving me a call and I’ll send you on home payment in hand.”

“And if he’s not home..?” Kat quietly asks from your lap, still enjoying the petting you’ve been idly giving her.

“See if you can’t find something that shows where he went, or wait till he comes back either’s fine really,” he shrugs, sinking further into his chair.

“When do you want us to do this?” you wonder, realizing you’ve put your body through two hellish runs today.

“Preferably now, but I suppose the morning would do as well,” he pauses, “So will you do it? It’s a good deal.”

“You know what, yeah,” you agree to it without any motivation behind moving, “I’ll do it.”

“Awesome, here,” he pulls out a card, and tosses it on the desk in front of you, “When you find what you will give that number a call and tell me what’s up.”

You stare at the card intently for a moment before Kat helpfully reaches out and hands it to you, “Thanks Kat,” you pat her head affectionately before pocketing the card.

“Well then, any questions?” William asks, looking excited at the prospect of getting his chair back.

“Yeah will he have any traps around?” you ask, thinking back to the shed.

“... while I cannot say no, I do doubt they’d be anything lethal,” he admits after a moment.

“If there was a possibility of lethal traps, why didn’t you mention it earlier!?” Beth snaps in irritation, “That seems kind of like an important detail.”

“Because I didn’t and don’t think he’ll have any such thing,” William says nonchalant, “If its a problem you don’t have to go Miss Elizabeth.”

You hum, before asking, “If he does have traps, what sort do you think they’ll be?”

“At worst a paralysis trap, it’s hard to question the dead after all,” he explains, “Though I have to ask, do you plan on going tonight? Or even still at all?” He finishes with a glance towards Beth.

“Alex, it’s been a long day…” Kat complains from your lap, making you glance down at her; growing timid and shy as your eyes meet. Your face flushes a little as you realize you’ve been petting her in someone else’s chair as they watched.

You fidget in the chair holding onto Kat as if she was some sort of life raft, “T-Tomorrow would be best…”

William watches you with passing interest, “Give the number a call when you’re ready then. I’ll send all three of you on your way.”

You nod silently, as Beth asks, “Is there any way you could send us home? It’s… a long walk.”

He seems to be debating something, before sighing, “Yeah alright, all of you will be sent to the same place so pick wisely.”

“Alex’s house,” Beth immediately responds, “You know where it is right?”

“Of course I do,” he lazily stands up, “Have a good night, or what’s left of it.”

Before you can reply, you find yourself sitting on the couch with Kat still in your lap and Beth next to you. Being home really makes you realize how worn out you’ve made yourself today, enough that you barely even want to bother getting up and into bed.

Beth lets out a sigh of relief, sinking deeper into the couch, “Can we just got to sleep now, please?”

Kat rolls off of your lap and stretches, “That has never sounded so inviting.”

“Yeah,” you say swallowing hard as your mind races with the possibilities of them molesting you in your sleep; though your body is far too worn out to react more than a dutiful progression towards the bed.

The three of you climb into bed, not even bothering to get underneath the covers before cuddling together and drifting off to sleep.

You open your eyes to find yourself in Shadow Alex’s room, she’s sitting in your computer chair with an amused smile on her face, “Watching that was loads of fun, couldn’t even be bothered to interject.”

You raise an eyebrow at this, “Is that why you let me figure out what it was on my own?”

“Something like that,” she kicks her legs back and forth, “So how was it have fun? Enjoy experiencing some of what makes everyone tick?”

“Some?” you wonder aloud.

“Well it wasn’t all of it, just bits of their personalities slapped over yours,” Shadow Alex chuckles, “Really glad those don’t affect me, it let me enjoy it all the more.”

You shake your head, and take a seat on the bed, watching as she turns to face you.

“Well I’m glad it was an enjoyable show,” you snort, “Getting kicks out of your other halfs troubles.”

“Was it really troublesome?” Shadow Alex gives you a skeptical looks, “Be honest here.”

You’re silent as you think on it for a bit, “Hmm, I suppose it was kind of fun,” you admit, somewhat reluctant, “Kat has a runaway imagination, it’s no wonder she’s so easy to tease.”

“If what went through your mind was any indication, she does most of the work for us,” she chuckles, and pulls her legs up to her chest, “Her Shadow probably has it easy.”

“Or maybe hard from how shy she is,” you point out, before stretching a bit, “Though it’s a wonder Dad manages to not run off into the sunset everyday.”

“Nah, think about who he’s married to,” Shadow Alex grins, “He’d get away with it maybe three times before Mom would get tired of it happening every night.”

You laugh lightly as you remember her defeated sigh, “That’s true enough.”

“Here’s for hoping another amusing change,” her eyes twinkle with amusement.

“Preferably not anytime soon, for everyone else’s sake,” you say with a smile.

Shadow Alex starts to say something, before glancing towards the door with a frown, “Seems like its time to get up.”

You frown at this, feeling like you’ve hardly gotten any sleep at all.
