Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you sparred with Darzi and took a bath.

It is currently the 14th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

You glance towards Darzi, who's retreating down the stairwell towards the baths below, and then towards the doorway into the various bedrooms your estate houses. Tugging your sweat soaked shirt away from your chest you sniff experimentally, frowning at the discovery that you smell like ass. You decide that before making an apology to Chryssa you should probably wash yourself off, lest you offend her.

You follow Darzi down the steps, taking them slowly and carefully so as to avoid a nasty fall. These spiral staircases are down right hazardous, you're surprised that nobody's gotten hurt. At the bottom of the stairs you find yourself in the well-appointed baths. Red banners threaded in gold hang from the ceiling along with paper lamps, currently unlit. Light streams in primarily from four small circular windows in the ceiling, each sitting just barely above the water line of the sea outside.

Darzi is still busy stripping out of her clothes, hidden behind a silk screen on the left side of the frigidarium, the cold bath. She peeks over the screen, glancing at you only briefly before ducking back down. You seclude yourself behind a separate screen and follow suit, stuffing your dirty clothes into your cloak and extracting a fresh set while you're at it. That done you step out from behind the screen to find Darzi already submerged in the cold waters of the frigidarium.

Her arms are covered in scars from the elbow down which serve as a reminder of her time in the custody of bandits. She's draped them across the marble edge of the pool, her body reclined on the seats that line the edge of the bath. This isn't the first time you've seen her nude, but the fact stands that she's a very attractive woman. Fit and toned, with a moderate bust . She's let her hair down, the first time you've seen her without her hair twisted into some sort of bun.

The water which fills the tub is pouring from a brass pipes in the wall and draining from a grate running along the bottom of the bath. The constant sound of falling water seems to echo through the room, lending it a very serene atmosphere. Coupled with the smell of scented oil and burning incense it really is very relaxing.

You spot Darzi eyeing you as you slide into the cold water, though she's trying very hard to be subtle about it. Mixed bathing isn't all that strange amongst your people, it's been a tradition for hundreds of years in public bathhouses. Granted in a setting this private it might be considered a little more intimate than is strictly appropriate. You think the very tips of her ears may be colored a shade darker than usual but it's hard to tell.

You dip your head beneath the waterline, taking a moment to scrub your face clean and rinse out your hair before rising once more about the surface. It's invigorating, just what you needed to relieve some of your exhaustion. Since you don't want to risk embarrassing yourself, you rest your head against the marble and close your eyes, enjoying the cold water against your skin. It eases your soreness slowly but surely.

Your thoughts start to drift, but you're snapped back to reality as Darzi rises from the water. She slides out of the cold baths and makes her way towards the tepidarium, the warm baths. You decide to join her, after all you can barely feel your feet you've been so long submerged in the cold water. The sight she afforded you had nothing to do with the decision at all, and you'd swear on that.

In the hot baths you find a collection of scented oils on one end of the room as well as long, curved blades which are used to scrape the skin clean once anointed in oil. Heat radiates from all around you, from the very walls themselves, thanks to a series of pipes running beneath their surface. Darzi seems to have decided to lounge on one of the heated benches for now, so you make your way over to the oils and start washing off the grime of travel and exertion.

The heat is wonderfully relaxing, even if there's no pool to lounge in as there is in the frigidarium and calidarium. Once you finish scraping your skin clean with the stirgil you pass through the doorway into the calidarium, the steam which fills the room scented with what you think is mint. A bed of coals sits on one end of the room and a hot bath sits in the center. You use a scoop to pour some water onto the coals and Fire magic to heat them until they're glowing red, then slide into the bath.

The hot water drives away the last vestiges of soreness from your limbs, scalding though it is. Eventually you adjust but there are a few minutes of initial discomfort. Darzi joins you shortly, the thick steam which fills the room obscuring your view of her, though the ripple as she slides into the bath gives her away.

You both sit in fairly comfortable silence for a time before she speaks, her voice teasing. “You're more impressive in person. Perhaps it's simply because last time I saw you it was buried in some other woman, but somehow I thought you'd be smaller.”

You were doing such a good job of keeping your composure too. So much for that. Now you're not going to be able to get out of this pool for another ten to twenty minutes. “Thank you, I suppose?”

You can practically hear the shit eating grin in her voice. “What, you're not going to return the compliment? How terribly rude of you, Mikhael. Here I thought... well, never mind.”

Surya take this woman, you can't abide this sort of teasing. “No, no! You're quite, well, attractive I suppose. Gorgeous? It's just I'm a little surprised-”

She interrupts. “Oh? Have I flustered the great and mighty Grandmaster Mikhael? I can't imagine how. Pani knows I'm hardly on par with that homely aghtaki you slept with. What was she branded for again? Murder?”

Really at this point she's just fishing for praise. You both know that she far outstrips Aisha in looks. “Do I sense a hint of jealousy, Darzi? Come now, that's hardly becoming of a lady.”

Darzi scoffs. A wave of hot water splashing you from across the pool. “Me, jealous? You could only dream.”

Now it's your turn to tease. “Oh no, I'm fairly certain of what I heard. Listen, Darzi, if you're curious I would be more than happy to-”

Another wave of water crashes into you, cutting you off and leaving you sputtering. You simply shake your head, sighing in an exaggerated manner and adopting a tone of pompous self-importance. “Very well, deny yourself if you wish. It's not my business. However, I've more important issues to attend to.”

You slide out of the bath, slipping back into the tepidarium and then into the frigidarium. You dry yourself with a wave of your hand and quickly dress in a simple set of trousers and a tunic. That done you pull on your Grandmaster's robes, taking a few minutes to adjust them until they fit correctly before slipping out from behind the screen. Darzi is only just emerging from the tepidarium, and she averts her eyes at the sight of you. Perhaps you took things a touch too far?

Well, it's not particularly important. You can deal with it later, if you're forced to deal with it at all. Climbing the stairs you make your way to the stairwell leading down into the dining hall. There Skull Kid and Fulvia have vanished, but in their place sits Chryssa, her back to you. You imagine Skull Kid and Fulvia have already retreated to his workshop to pursue whatever project they're currently working on.

You sigh wearily. There's no more putting this off, you need to resolve this before it becomes an even bigger issue than it otherwise would've been. Thus you begin your slow descent of the stairwell, a slave you'd barely noticed slipping out the door at the opposite end of the dining hall as soon as you start your descent.

You opt to slide into a seat across from Chryssa. She takes no notice of you, her face expressionless as she picks at her food without enthusiasm. You clear your throat to get her attention but she doesn't respond. It's about that time that the slave from earlier returns carrying a plate of food, which he sets down in front of you, along with a cup of rich black coffee and an unopened envelope sealed with the royal symbol of the Shah himself.

As curious as you are about the letter's contents you push it to one side for now, taking a sip of coffee before turning your attention once more to Chryssa. Rather than beat around the bush you decide to cut straight to the point. “Chrys, we both know why I'm here. I made deals with spirits older than Rhynia to make it back as quickly as I did.”

Still no response, so you press on. “All I wish to say is that I'm sorry. I would've never intentionally shown you my coupling with another woman, so soon after we agreed that there was nothing between us. I should not have had so much to drink beforehand. That said, I do not regret the act itself. We come from different worlds, you and I. Different cultures with different values.”

(1/2)
>>
Chryssa sits up straight, finally meeting your eyes. “I would have been willing to reconcile our cultural grievances had you only voiced your desire but you showed no interest, and though I may not always appear so I am far from dull-witted. I understand. I will move on. That does not change the fact that I've grown to resent you. I am sure in time these feelings will pass, but that has not yet happened. Thus, I would appreciate it if you left me to my thoughts.”

That's exactly the problem. The tats would draw from the same non-meditation passive vys regent that we'd be dependant on to eventually heal, and while unconscious there's no way to prioritize one or the other. The tattoos would keep us alive when we ought to be dead using the very vys we need in order to stop being dead.

I actually decided specifically that there was no 'true' mind control. People can be influenced and ideas planted in their heads which they think are theirs but they can't be made to act on them.

You hold up your hands in mock surrender. “Fine, I will give you your space. However, I do hope we might reconcile our disagreements in the near future. I do not wish to let strife interfere with our party dynamic. Especially not when we're about to undertake a journey into one of the most dangerous places on the planet.” Regardless of whether you journey to the Pa'vala or the jungles of Elaudia, that statement holds true.

Chryssa's response is swift, and characteristically impartial. “Your desires are noted but I can take no action which would see them fulfilled. I would not expect you to realize that I am not nearly so in control as I might appear. It is solely through force of will that I do not shatter your skull with my bare hands.”

You feel a bead of sweat forming on your brow. Powerful though you are you're within an arm's length of Chryssa. You're not sure you could cast faster than she could swing at you. “Well, if it's any consolation I've news from the north. While your village is no doubt gone, burned to the ground along with most of its populace, many of the villagers themselves seem to have escaped. I rescued a handful, as I mentioned, and the girl Aylin is enrolled at the Academy of Anthus. She reminds me of you, in a way.”

Chryssa merely stabs her fork into a length of sausage, nodding her head. “That is good to hear. That everyone I ever knew outside of present company has either died or otherwise been lost to me forever. It is some small solace that some of us survived. Perhaps when we next visit Anthus I will meet with this girl and we shall converse. Until then, Mikhael.”

Even you're not so thick as to miss the hints she's giving. You pick up your plate, your letter, and your coffee before retreating to the end of the table, well away from Chryssa. You situate yourself there, picking up your fork and starting to eat absentmindedly. You're not really paying attention to your food, though it is quite good. Your attention is divided between a dagger finding your heart whilst you sleep and what your plans are for the future.

You tear open the wax seal on the letter from the Shah, picking at your food with one hand while sliding the folded parchment out of the envelope with the other. You fold open the letter and start scanning through it, food momentarily forgotten. The penmanship is fine, much the same as the handwriting on your letter of pardon. You imagine it's in the Shah's own hand.

As for the contents of the letter they're fairly simple. He recounts that he's had his sister arrested and she rots in a cell. He's had a Vatis inspect her and he remarked that her soul was as cold and dead as a stone, black as the void. She'll be executed, publicly, at the very ceremony where your unbanishment will be announced. Unfortunately there will be a delay, as the Samraat of Kulkarni is on war footing. Raids have been stepped up and forces have been seen gathering at the border. All of his attention must be focused on preparing a defense, especially considering the state of the Shahdom's army.

You hadn't been aware that the Shah's armies were in any sort of disrepair but you suppose you never really kept up with that sort of thing. The letter goes on to say that he appreciates your aid immensely regarding the threat the dragons pose as well as the construction of the new walls and fortress. He states that he has approved you and your father's plan for the construction of a 'purification plant' in a plot of land just outside the old walls. He's agreed to have Earth and Metal vatis build a system of pipes to Thaddeus' specifications and the basic structure is already erected, even if the actual mechanics need more fine tuning. He mentions that he would be willing to pay a handsome fee if you could provide running water to the whole of the city, and states that he's already in negotiations with your father for a second plant near the farms which sustain the city.

>>
>>41065230
>With or without waifus it's going to be shit once it reaches about ~30 people in each thread.

Agreed. Probably the best quest I have read in recent memory had maybe half a dozen active players in a given thread.
>>
>>41062921
Why isn't Khemdi listed as a ruin? That was Chry's home area, right?
>>
He then goes on to state that the new 'cannons' on the walls are proceeding apace. They're having trouble finding the ingredients for this 'black powder' in large enough quantities to satisfy Thaddeus' demands but they're working to produce more. A sulfur mine is underway in the hills to meet the recent demand for the substance. Some have wondered weather they're enchanted, and the Shah was curious to know himself. He states that they remind him of a few old Rhynian devices he plans to have installed in the new Fortress of El-Amin.

Finally he admonishes you for not being more subtle in your return to society. Word of your presence in the city and your unbanishment have spread far not only throughout the city but beyond its walls. Apparently he's attempted to discount the rumors but this has only led to them spreading further. He ask that you at least attempt to keep a low profile going forward.

With that the letter concludes, wishing you good health. You pass it to the side and motion to a near-by slave, a young elf. He approaches you nervously, toying with the hem of his white uniform. You instruct him simply to fetch Prema, reverting to Rhynian for his benefit.

The boy vanishes into a doorway hidden by one of the wall panels. You focus your attention on your meal for the few minutes it takes Prema to appear by your side, seemingly melting from the walls. “What would you have of me, Master?”

(2/3)
>>
You sit up, reaching into your cloak and extracting a neat bundle of lion's tales. They're tied together into groups of five, which are in turn bound together as well. You have to stand to extract the bundle fully, and it's heavy enough that you're forced to hold it in two hands. “I ask that you take these tails up to the headquarters of the city guard. Tell them I sent you, and that this is the result of a long hunting trip in the deserts. If they ask any further questions merely state that you only know what I've told you, and that the dealings of Vatis are a mystery to you. Understood?”

She nods, attempting to take the tail off of your hands. Unfortunately they prove too heavy for her. With a snap of her fingers two human slaves step away from the walls, moving to assist her. Between the two of them they easily manage the bundle of tails and speaking swiftly in a language you recognize as Elven Prema instructs them.

The humans march off towards the doorway into the entry hall, while Prema turns her attention to you. “It shall be done, Master. Have you any further need of me?”

>To answer some questions about Hiacia and Elaudia.
Nobody has ever traveled particularly deep into either and come out alive.
Tours are hosted along the outskirts of Hiacia and there are mapped safe routes, as well as old maps copied from Hiacia records of the area that is now the Pa'vala. Which marks cities and forts and other shit, but only stuff which was public knowledge. The Hiacian Empire kept many secrets. There are native tribes who still live in the Pa'vala, but they're few and stick mostly to the outskirts.

>Nobody who travels more than a week or two into Elaudia ever comes back. Nobody knows what lies that far in. Some say the Jungle is alive and kills those who journey within. HOWEVER, nobles do host hunting trips into Elaudia just as they go hunting in the Pa'vala. There are also attempts underway to reclaim Elaudia, though slow going. You've met a man who journeyed into Elaudia with a native guide, implying that there are natives.

>Think those were the big points.

>Elaudia is actually a bit more of a 'mystery box' since no maps exist, it may either be safer or more dangerous than the Pa'vala. The Pa'vala on the other hand is sort of a known entity, you know what lives there and how dangerous its creatures are.

>At the end of the day it comes down to: Are you a gambling man?

This was all Soma

Seems like they're all pretty close, so I'll just combine all three. You'll ask her to buy the barrels, rations, and the map since you'll probably (eventually) go into the Pa'vala. Yet you'll also call your companions to discuss your next immediate destination.

This will (probably) be the last post.

Every being we've come across has told us that getting rid of it is FAR beyond their power. And we've come across some stupidly powerful shit.
>>
>>41066113
>Every being we've come across has told us that getting rid of it is FAR beyond their power. And we've come across some stupidly powerful shit.
You are beyond help. The reason it has the ability to threaten us is because it's feeding on our excess vys. Remove its food source it stops being a threat.
>>
>>41066183
Woah there big guy that's a lot of assumptions

Find something that can beat The Entity at gathering that Vys. Cause it sure as hell ain't some shitty ring some weak ass spirit makes to keep us happy.
>>
>>41066208
THIS SHIT WAS EXPLICITLY MENTION IN QUEST DUMBASS.

No, it was said that it has been gathering some of the excess vys we exude. That is all. The rest is you're assumptions.
>>

>>41066241
Okay if you doubt me than why not ask Mahanna if it would work (since he's the one who told us about this shit in the first place) before assuming it wouldn't work.
>>
>>41066241
Yea we don't know if is has also

A. been leeching small bits of Vys from our reserves

B.Taking Vys while we sleep

C. Gathering ambient Vys

D. Pulling Vys from the hundreds of immensely vys soaked situations we've been dropping ourself into.

To think we can come up with a way to inhibit its growth is foolishly assumptive.

>>41066301
I am all for it.
>>
>>41066301
Can we do this before deciding Soma? It's really important.
>>
I really think the trip into Elaudia will be more fun and interesting. But the Pa'vala is much more urgent. The Entity has been with us for far to long.
>>
Can we go to Warlord Island, please? That sounds way more fun than Jungle or Sand.

Man, I don't know why you guys complain so much. I mean, yeah it's not ideal what happened but that's what life is like. I'm enjoying this wild ride, even if what I want to have happen doesn't always occur.

Thanks for writing, Soma bro, and thanks other Anons for making decisions that while I might not like them, at least keep me entertained.

You shake your head. “No, actually. I've further use for you. On your return trip I ask that you stop by the market and collect as many water tight barrels as you can find, for storage. I also ask that you pick up several crates of foodstuffs that will keep well for long periods. I also ask that you pick up good food as well, fresh meat and vegetables as well as all manner of herbs and spices. My cloak should keep them good.”

The woman bows her head. “Of course, I will see to it that your will is done.”

You hold up a finger, begging pause before she leaves. “If possible, I also ask that you seek out a cartographer. I specifically want a map of Old Hiacia, and all of its cities, villages, and forts. I may be voyaging into the Pa'vala soon and I feel it would be prudent to gather whatever knowledge I can.” You pause a moment. “That will be all, Prema. You're dismissed.”

She leaves swiftly and you turn your attention to your breakfast. Once you've cleaned your plate and finished off two cups of pitch black coffee you carefully probe the connections in the back of your thoughts linking you to the rest of your companions. Chryssa has left the table, in fact she did so quite some time ago, but she's still awake at least. You sense that Skull Kid's thoughts are frantic, as if he's in the midst of something stressful. Meanwhile Profectus seems half-awake, you assume Tertia is in a similar state. Only Mortia remains wholly unconscious.

You focus your thoughts and force them through the connections. {Everyone, gather in the dining hall. We must discuss our next course of action. I have been thinking lately, and I've wondered if it wouldn't be preferable to explore the jungles of Elaudia before the deserts of the Pa'vala. I feel retrieving the compass as a result of the former would help immensely with the latter.}

>>
Darzi's thoughts seem a chaotic jumble but her response is as salient as usual. {Mortia, Thaddeus, and I will be there shortly. He's showing us a demonstration of his latest experiments with his armor. They called me in to help test out a sort of magical field which stops attacks directed against him.}

Mortia's thoughts come hazy and indistinct, wholly incomprehensible. You probe her mind further, encouraging her to rise and wake. Eventually she manages to respond in a manner resembling coherency. {Bein' around shortly, jus' lemme get a dress.}

Profectus and Tertia simply show up, fortunately dressed this time. Profectus seems to have started wearing robes in a very Samjan style, all flowing silk and vibrant color. The ones he's wearing at the moment are in a shade of deep black, hemmed with a rich red. Tertia is in far simpler garb, trousers and a blouse. They sit next to you.

Chryssa arrives shortly after, sitting furthest from you just next to Profectus. She's followed by Mortia, who appears in a baggy cotton shirt which lacks buttons or indeed any obvious means of removal. Perhaps she simply pulls it over her head like a tunic? Regardless, she's coupled it with a pair of blue pants which cling tightly to the shape of her legs, made from a strange fabric you don't recognize.

Conversation is muted until Darzi, Skull Kid, and Fulvia arrive. Skull Kid is clutching his ribs as if in pain, while the sleeve of Darzi's shirt is scorched black. You wonder how their experiment went? Regardless, they take a seat on the opposite side of the table from Chryssa, Tertia, Profectus, and Mortia.

Your slaves bring out plates of food for your companions who haven't already eaten, namely Mortia, Darzi, Profectus, and Tertia. As they begin to eat you clear your throat to get everyone's attention. “Now then, on the topic of our destination. As I mentioned, I have been rethinking my decision to lead us into the Pa'vala...”
