You dispel the illusory replicas of yourself and Zahak, watching the last lion as it flees into the desert. It quickly vanishes over the peak of a dune, but you wait a little while longer just to make sure it isn't coming back with friends. Only once you're sure that it's gone do you relax, focusing your thoughts on the connection you and Zahak share.

{Alright. Bring us in for a landing. I'm going to harvest their tails since there's a reward out for Pidjatan lions. It'll also be an opportunity to teach you about healing.}

Zahak dips his wing sharply and you veer left, before descending towards the strip of desert most of your combat took place on. Much of the sand has been melted into glass from the combined efforts of yourself and Zahak. Thick black sheets of the stuff cover the battlefield in long strips, some quite wide. You imagine they'll soon be broken up and buried by wind and sand, but for now they sit as scars on the landscape.

You collect first from the dead lions, of which there are eighteen. Two survive; one severely burned and the other lacking a single non-broken bone in its body. You paralyze each and then leech them until they seem to be unconscious before then dragging them into the middle of the battleground. {If you're hungry, Zahak, eat some of the corpses before we start. If you're full you shouldn't be tempted to finish them off.}

Zahak marches off towards one of the less charred corpses. You note that he controls his breath much more carefully as he cooks the meat, charring it on the outside but keeping it fairly bloody inside. Then he digs in, ripping off long strips of muscle tissue and then roasting the internal organs and eating those as well. He consumes three of the lions in all, fairly impressive considering each one is probably a few hundred pounds. You suppose that he is a rapidly growing boy.

Once he's full he rejoins you, and you instruct him to meditate on assisting you while you regrow the tails. He complies, and with his help you wind up making quick work of your task. You harvest an additional twenty tails total, and instead of taking an hour or more you finish up the process in just over forty minutes.

By the time you finish the sun has risen properly and the desert is cast in long shadows, the breeze still refreshingly cool. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be long before the sun started to bake the sands and the wind in your hair started to feel more and more like the exhaust of a blast furnace. Thus, you collected the forty tails you'd piled up and stuffed them into your cloak before slitting the throats of the two lions you collected from, leaving them to bleed out.

You have to wake Zahak by forcefully inserting yourself into his thoughts, so deep was he in meditation. He startles awake, kicking up a plume of sand as he does so. {I did it! I helped!} He exclaims as he comes to. {Did you see me Papa! I did it!}

Chuckling lightly you scratch at the base of his horns. {Yes, I saw you Zahak. You did well in combat too. I was very impressed by your skills. Now then, shall we return to the estate?}

He bumps to top of his head against your chest as he responds. {Yeah! I want to tell all the others about what I can do now, and about what a good job we did hunting! Hey, you said there was a reward for the tails right? Will I get some of the money? I think I should!}

You haul yourself onto his back, responding as he pushes himself to his feet. {Yes, yes. You'll get a share of the money, I assure you. I was already thinking that we should split it. I'll need to take the tails up to the City Guard's headquarters in the Palace to turn them in for a reward, but as soon as I get back I'll give you a portion of the gold for your hoard.}

Seemingly excited by the prospect of expanding his hoard, Zahak gets a running start and then leaps into the air. His wings snap taut as they catch the wind and with you on his back he starts to steadily gain altitude. Once he reaches a few hundred feet he points himself away from the rising sun and the two of you sail peacefully through the cool morning air towards El-Amin and your estate.

The flight is peaceful, you're not disturbed by anything save a very confused pelican which swoops down and screeches in Zahak's face, only to be casually snatched out of the air and cooked alive in his jaws. You steer clear of the city proper and instead fly low to the ground, just a few feet above the dunes as you approach the sea cliffs which extend along the shore to the east of El-Amin. You find yourself clutching desperately to the spines on Zahak's back as he takes a sharp turn to bring him around over the cliffs and reorient himself towards the mouth of the smuggler's cove.

Zahak coast through the narrow mouth of the cove and comes in for a surprisingly gentle landing on one of the platforms which are secured to the stone walls, though he sends the ancient rotted husk of crates which populate the cove scattering in every direction as he eases himself to the ground. Once he's landed you slide off of his back, taking a moment to thank Pani that you decided to keep your Warlock Armor on, then rubbing Zahak affectionately on the snout.

To be honest, you're not sure. You've had no previous dealings with the headquarters of the City Guard. For all you know it's the very picture of bureaucratic hell and you'll be waiting there for hours. However, you wouldn't imagine it to be so inefficient. Hopefully collecting your reward will be as simple as walking in and turning in your tails.

You cock your head to one side, trying to recall the bounties on some of the more dangerous beast which lurk the desert sands. {I think the standing reward for Pidjatan Lions is something like four gold per tail, so we're looking at about twenty four hundred silver as a reward. We can discuss how we're going to split the money later.}

Zahak seems satisfied with this, so you decide now is as good a time as any to excuse yourself. {As fun as this has been, Zahak, I feel that I ought to be getting back to the estate proper. I need to speak with my companions and I've put it off long enough. If you ever get lonely down here, just let me know and I'll come down to visit. Alright?}

Zahak nods his head, neck scales flaring out slightly, and bumps you in the chest again with the top of his head before turning towards the mouth of the cove. You have to duck his tail as it lashes out, tensing to help him balance before he springs into the air and snaps out his wings. Flapping twice, he carries himself gracefully up to his perch carved into the cove's ceiling.

Your journey through the tunnels beneath your estate is uneventful. You come across two small hairless rodents feasting on some sort of strange red mushroom but neither seems particularly noteworthy so you simply move on. Eventually you reach the grand arched entryway to the servant's passages and exit at the first door you come across, which just so happens to open up into the library.

As expected, the library is more or less abandoned at this hour. You do note that all of the shelves have been neatly organized. They're divided up into sections by genre and then listed by book title, with books lacking in titles at the top of the shelves. The broadly labeled 'Magic' section is likewise divided up into subcategories like 'Theory', 'Practice', 'Journals', and 'Other'.

As much as you'd like to simply sit down and read for a time, you've other things to see to today. Thus you gently repalce the wall panel which opens up to the servant's passages and make your way swiftly to the doorway on the opposite end of the room. Once in the upstairs hall you channel magic, a familiar tingling sensation gathering at the back of your head as your senses fan out to explore the estate.

You can sense your slaves busily preparing a breakfast in the kitchen, catching vague wisp of fresh baked flat bread and brewing tea. You ignore it, turning your attention elsewhere. Profectus and Tertia are sleeping soundly in their room, likely only recently retired. You doubt they'll wake before noon. Darzi is in the training hall, in the tower on the other side of the gardens. Chryssa seems to be asleep while Mortia, you think, is preparing for bed.

Skull Kid is at the top of his tower, in his workshop. He's hard to sense via nature magic because his form is so broken up and faint, vast swathes of his body appearing to be nonliving. Still, you think he's slumped over at his desk, probably fallen asleep in the midst of some project. Fulvia is overseeing your slaves in the kitchen and speaking with a woman you think might be Prema, though you're not certain.

Darzi seems to be the only one of your companions well and truly awake, besides Fulvia. You've already dealt with Fulvia though and she doesn't seem to care in the slightest, so you're left with few options unless you want to wake one of the others.

Ducking through the glass doorway into the gardens you find the sudden humidity cloying and uncomfortable. This room seems to be kept sweltering even as the rest of the house remains relatively cool. You're frankly surprised that there isn't some sort of rain cloud forming at the top of the greenhouse.

Most of the racks upon racks of potted plants have been given over to herbs and various other ingredients Mortia might need for her various and manifold alchemical experiments but their practicality doesn't detract from their beauty. You pass an entire row of poppies in shades of yellow, blue, and red as well as some sort of towering tropical plant with a bloom the size of your head just on your way to the door on the opposite end.

Stepping into the tower which houses the armory, training rooms, laboratory, and workshop the first thing you hear are the resounding impacts of wood against wood from the floor below. Seems Darzi is hard at work. You carefully remove your helmet, Tte needle sliding out of your neck sends an unpleasant shiver down your spine but channeling magic quickly heals the gaping wound. You don't feel most of the negative effects you would typically associate with removing the armor, neither fatigue nor nausea, but you didn't actually wear it all that long.

No longer appearing as some sort of wrathful servant of the gods here to deliver vengeance upon your enemies, you slip down the stairwell into the training room below. The floor is covered in fine white sand and racks of training weapons surround the space. Three dummies sit on one end of the sandy arena, while the rest is left open as a sparring ground. Darzi is practicing unarmed, wooden guards strapped to her knuckles, shins, and forearms to prevent her from hurting herself as she pounds away at one of the poor, undeserving practice dummies.
