/tg/ - Traditional Games

Stage 87: Difficult things, Dangerous Things, Deadly things.

You've just escaped yet another trap laid by one of Oba-san's minions, a Water dragonette you trained with. Her nature as a river dragonette made her far less capable to ensnare you, but the problem is that she's here at all. Undoubtedly, the talk with Umi-san, the person whom you have shared an unfortunate past with, was vital and inevitable. Yet some good may have come of that after all.

All the more worrisome is that once again, you cannot contact Shoko-san, who has taken Jinyuu-onee-sama and Er Yin-sensei to Ryutaku-ji, the temple Turtle's Swamp, where Horobi once made his home. At least you hope that's the case. If you're wrong there are some very bad things that will happen soon, and you're most of them.

Still, the Self Defense Forces breaking up the Yakuza and Kurosune clan beach party was unfortunate and annoying in equal measure. You did manage to make one ally that has already proven himself invaluable, a member of the Public Security Intelligence Agency. He helped reduce the threat to Chisato-chan and her people by making the Self Defense Forces and police aware they interfered in a serious investigation. It was, of course, a cover-up: the foreign soldiers sent a half-breed kitsune-demon child to kidnap Kiki-hime.

You discovered a new level of power that was brought on by your new-found immortality, one that is by far the most personal and deadly form of Barrier Combat you've ever used, or have even heard of. The immortality has been helpful, but you're still a little low on Shen, inevitable after using such power in Barrier Combat. You were also forced to kill Margaret Steinhausen, who serves under the mysterious and clearly knowledgeable Colonel Friedrich Blitzenberg, leader of the foreign military expedition that wants to capture Kiki-hime.
>>
>>41053864
You strongly suspect the Diet sent in the Self Defense Forces and Police with influence from either Taisho Ryoga or Kumatori Hojo; your not sure which one of them has the colonel under their thumb, but you think it's Taisho at the moment. And naturally, the breakup of the party and your subsequent escape alerted Oba-san to your whereabouts, because if there's trouble, you're usually in the middle of it.

Even you know that much.

“We have to go, soon. In about fifteen minutes there will be a half-dozen cloud-riders and a half-dozen Water dragonnes in the forest hunting for us.” You sincerely hope it continues to be the younger warriors; Oba-san has them to spare, right now, another sixty to eighty, after the slaughter of Wakaba's group and the deaths of Hauko's group and his own betrayals. “I wish we could rest, but we can't yet. There's a train station nearby, or there's Mikimoto Pearl Temple.” Yui's eyes light up. “Cultured pearls, as in jewelry, you little pervert.”

“But I like watching the dancers,” complains Yui-niji-chan, which brings subdued laughter from your family. Inau-kun is quickly helping Kiku-chan distribute more food and water, and explaining how to eat and drink so that it nourishes without slowing one down. But it is Akari-niji-chan's look towards you as she packs one of the coolers again, and the soft, serious voice with which she speaks that brings the reality of the situation crashing home.

“We can't continue like this, aniki.”

Your heart clenches in your chest, and you want to tell her she's wrong....but she's right. She's way too right. You're outmanned, two groups of your enemies have access to nearly unlimited human-style monetary resources, one group has unpredictable and dangerous supernatural power that you were extremely lucky to defeat the first time around as well as guns, you know next to nothing about yet another group of Chinese devils and demons that may be after you, and finally Oba-san's resources and allies are greater than yours.

There's only one way to level the playing field: confront and remove one of the enemy groups from the Shogi board.

Maybe two.

Fortunately, you have three of those groups that you can immediately deal with, one way or another. But there's also the matter of getting your family to safety. Ooya-sama needs at least one more day to complete your new penthouse, three members of your family are incommunicado, and you have very little

[] Have your family retreat to you home, even though it is incomplete.
[] Have your family retreat to the Temple of Forgotten Stones and Flowers.

XS, I've got questions but sadly can't wait until the end of thread to ask so I'll ask now. How do humans view Ryukusa as a human? I mean, if being demigoddess tends to make people view you as beautiful in some sort right, wouldn't that tick certain observant humans off or draw unwanted attention? What I'm trying to ask is how extraordinary would she seem if a normal human took a good look at her?

And

During the fight with Steinhausen, shouldn't Ryukusa be able to shrug off whatever charm that was trying to affect her? I mean, she DID go through 200-ish years of N'Kai, I'd imagine she atleast get or develop something like Adamantium Will. Or am I overestimating the experience?

[] The Colonel and his people are doomed.
[] The temple of Ryujin - and the secret temple to Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado - will be safe.

The solution, while not necessarily the most obvious, is the most expedient. The foreigners are part of the problem, but by removing them you not only bring attention on the Diet for allowing such a diplomatic incident, you also remove the main tools Hojo or Taisho are using to harry you. And it will feel good to do some real justice in the name of your wife.

Where to send them is a much stickier problem. You dismiss sending them to your father; that would be kind of rude, and you'd have no way to get there yourself except to make a deal with Hinata-hakase....who you owe a great deal to already, having sent both Kushinada and your cousin to her for healing and training. Your home is out until the penthouse is finished, there are too many people who suspect and might be able to infiltrate the grounds. You could call on the sorceress you saved....but despite the fact that it's in Kaga territory, Hokkaido is Kiku-chan's home, and the Temple of Ryujin is on holy ground, a place not even the most foolish of Oba-san's or the Kaga sorcerers would dare desecrate.

The foreigners might, and that's another reason to get rid of them.

The hardest part is deciding if you're going to go it alone or not. Because while a sword at your side and a second pair of eyes is good, the truth is you'll be sending Kiki-hime far away, and you want her guarded as best as possible. It's a long way to Hokkaido, across most of Japan, and only Yui can cloud-ride.

And this time, you think you're not going to hold back anything, which really is something you'd rather not your more delicate loved ones and friends see.

Yui has been the one that demonstrated the most flexibility between magical and technological knowledge.

Logicaly, since the foreigner are big fans of combining the two, she would be the best suited to the task. Not to mention that she easily dealt with the Angel.

Beside, taking her won't leave a hole in the protection around Kiki, since both Akari and Kiku would be there.

[X] HELP!

You take a deep breath, running the scenarios in your mind.

the most difficult thing is not knowing where Er Yin-sensei and Shoko-san and Jinyuu-onee-sama are. The thing is, you have no way to tell if they're in danger or not, or even where they might be. Locating them could take hours, or days - and the rest of your family is in immediate and pressing danger right now.

At the very least, you'll find out if the Colonel and his people know anything.

Of your choices, you think the most suited are Yui-niji-chan, Akari-niji-chan, Kiku-chan or Yuuhi-chan.

Yui-niji-chan's ability to deal with electronics and spiritual matters, to say nothing of her closeness to the Void and therefore Er Yin-sensei, make her ideal in dealing with the Europeans. She is also a cloud-rider, and that means you'll be able to speed up the processes of rejoining your family or searching for your lost loved ones. Most importantly, she is a healer as well, and while the rest of your family might suffer without, and you won't necessarily need it, Kiki-hime doesn't need healing. On the other hand, you might need someone kept alive....and Yui won't disobey.

Yuuhi-chan is your samurai. Really not much more needs to be said, except that her skill with a blade is clearly phenomenal - even Hidesato-san, no slouch with a weapon herself, was astounded at the nogitsune-born's skills. there's also her spiritual powers: Ghost Fire is awful and devastating, but her ability to leave her body and scout is invaluable, and may help you search for your lost people more easily. But....she is overaggressive unless you keep a good eye on her.

Akari-niji-chan is Akari-niji-chan. Being your backup is what she has trained her entire life for. Her skill with electronics is not preternatural, but it's still high level hacker quality. She's almost impossible to kill as well, and strong enough that if you can't deal with something, she can at least drop buildings on it. Literally.

Kiku-chan is the most deadly fighter you have. she's almost as old as you are, now, and she's got the training to back it up, even if she spent half her life as a miko. Her Fire Eyes are nothing to sneeze at, and she has the destructive capabilities of her Element. Unlike the others, she can stop bullets and destroy guns instantly. She's actually faster than you, and could be much more outright destructive.

[] Take Yui-niji-chan. She's seen worse and her lightning is invaluable.
[] Take Yuuhi-chan. She is your samurai.
[] Take Akari-niji-chan. This is and always has been her first duty.

[X] Take Akari-niji-chan. This is and always has been her first duty.

You put up a small, careful Barrier, which alarms everyone at first. Then you begin shedding your robe and swimsuit. “Change in plans. Kiku-chan. You're taking everyone to the temple of Ryujin on Hokkaido, in Oto Jinja in Setana. That's your hometown. Only an idiot would attack any one there.”

“Or the Europeans,” pipes up Yui-niji-chan.

“Right, an idiot,” comments Kiku-chan irritably. That nets her soft chuckles and smiles, but Kiki-hime is neither smiling nor laughing. Her expression is worried, as it always is when she knows you will be going to do dangerous things.

“Colonel Friedrich and his people won't be attacking anyone ever again. We can't keep in the run with so many groups of people after us. They're here and close. Akari-niji-chan and I are going to deal with him.” There is dead silence for a few seconds as you consider what you are going to wear.

“Aniki, what about the Clan Ryo people you said would be coming?” Inau-kun's question isn't worried, as much as it is pragmatic.

“I'm going to make sure they have other problems on their hands while you get to the train. It's only a couple of miles, and you can take the out of here.” You pull on your simple black lace panties and bra, and then pause, thinking for a moment. “Kiku-chan, how would I grant my strength to a servant in my heaven?”

Kiku-chan blinks. “Well....transferring some of your Shen, or your Jing to them would work. You would have to give them a seal or bond to prove to the kami that it is your servant.” She quickly realizes what you mean to do. “The transference would have to be appropriate to the stature and nature of your servant and the bond or seal would have to be appropriate as well.” She pulls a small gourd out of ~Nowhere~ and brings it over to you as you fasten your bandeau style black lace bra.

You're kind of pleased that Inau-chan is pinching her nose and has her back to you, that the worry on Kiki-hime's face is warring with a touch of lust, and that Yuuhi-chan's tail is waving back and forth rather quickly as she sits and waits.

Over this goes a simple blouse and a medium length matching sun dress. You keep the black leather short-boots, though. Simple but very effective when you decide things have to change (and they will, you have no doubt). You tie up your hair in a stylishly messy knot, and put a couple of simple colorful chopstick hairpins through it almost absently.

You finish dressing and then hand your gloves to Kiku-chan, who accepts them without a word. With a sharp exhale you blow over your hands, drawing water from the air to spray your hands and cleanse them, white mist that shows the purity of the act flowing water and breath in the Barrier. You do so again, and then pull a pair of silver hairpins out of ~Nowhere~, one with a decorative dragon along it's length and sapphires for eyes. You quickly twist the two together, shifting the twists so that the dragon is presented fully along the exterior. You touch the circlet to your brow and say a soft prayer for Amaterasu-Omikami's blessing upon your servant, one of her avatars in the world.

Handing the circlet to Kiku-chan, she takes it reverently, and hands you the gourd. She murmurs soft prayers over it, and you feel her prayers making you warm and secure inside, a calm that spreads through you. “Ryuu Yui, kneel before me.”

Everyone else, seeing this is something very important to you, comes close, and they kneel seizen style. Kiki-hime kneels at your right, and Akari at your left.

Yui-chan, looking worried, walks to you, and then kneels before you, looking down. You can see her very obvious worry that she's done something wrong, that you're going to do something to punish her, even if it's a gentle and well meant punishment. “Look up at me, Yui-niji-chan,” you murmur, and she hesitantly looks up, int your eyes, her glowing blue eyes worried still.

You speak loudly and clearly, your voice echoing within the small Barrier. You hold the gourd up over Yui's head. “Ryuu Yui. This has been a long time in coming, and you have proven again and again that you are a true and loyal member of Clan Ryuu. For your loyalty and strength, your purity and your grace, I now and forever promote you to be my Herald. You will be my ambassador to the kami, the kamuy, and to the human world; you will speak with my voice, in my words, when I need you to do so. Those who see you will know you represent my will and my desires, and you will forever more be known as my good right hand. Ryuu Yui, stand.”

Stunned, Yui-chan stands up, and you uncork the gourd. Taking a mouthful of what has got to the strongest motherfuckin' dragon killin' ass kickin' alcohol in the universe, you gently wrap your hand about the back of her neck. Immediately she tilts her head up and allows her lips to part. Kissing her, you force your Chi, your Shen, and your Jing into the wine by biting your cheek, which sets your whole mouth on fire because FUCK. Though you hold the tears back, you then kiss Yui-chan, giving her the alcohol and your power, as she gave you her strength and healed you in the past.

She swallows and coughs violently, going down to one knee before you. You take the circlet from Kiku-chan, pausing only long enough to allow Kiki-hime to take it from you so she can lay a soft kiss on the sapphire eye of the dragon. She reverently hands it to you, and you kneel and wrap it about your herald's neck, just loose enough not to choke her...and then you twist the last part of the pins into place under the dragon, forming a loop.

A collar, with a loop for a chain.

“Rise, Ryuu Yui, and take your place at my side.” You smile and help her up, her eyes tearful and shining, but her smile showing that it wasn't the potent alcohol making her do so. Well, not just the alcohol, because, damn. She stands at your side, a little before you, between Kiki-hime and yourself. “Greet your sister in arms and my beloved Yui.”

“RYUU YUI, WELCOME!” It is only four voices, but it resounds through the barrier like five, and you can feel Er Yin's presence, even though it is impossible.

“Arigatou gozimasu,” Ryuu Yui says tearfully, “my family.” Everyone rises and hugs her, Akari at the front of them, and Kiki staying back to slide an arm about your waist.

“That was beautiful, Ryu-chan. I think she deserved it.” Even Kiku-chan gives her a hug, though she swats Yui-chan with a fan several times after the oni-child kisses her. Not very hard, really, but her hair is floating cutely and her cheeks are red. Akari and Yui embrace at last, and kiss, a long, involved, and rather lovely kiss.

“It wasn't just for show, Kiki-hime,” you say softly. “Look.”

Kiki-hime glances at you oddly, and looks more closely at Yui and Akari as they break their kiss. Her eyes widen, the shimmering sky of them shocked. Yui has grown two inches, her body fat lessened and her shape more svelte and sleek than it was a moment ago. Her tail has lengthened by double that amount and she doesn't seem to have noticed herself, though Akari is looking up at her with amusement. Her breasts seem to have grown a little too, though they're nowhere near your size yet.

Kiki-hime looks at you, her eyes shining and happy for her friend and protector.

> Kissing her, you force your Chi, your Shen, and your Jing into the wine by biting your cheek
We gave her a bit of our energies, effectively accelerating her spiritual body's growth. It might have a few other implications as well.

Secondly, we made her our Herald, which has a few spiritual meanings.

Thirdly, we collared her, which means she's ours.
>>

But she already was ours.

>Oni culture requires physical bindings. They have symbolic and spiritual meaning to them. An iron collar or cuffs would have meant just as much, and chains would mean even more.
>>
>>41057357

Yes and no. She was ours, but not our Oni.
>>
>>41057357
It's official now. A collared oni is a servant of the one who collared them (and besides, Yui wanted it).
>>

>cuffs
Speaking of which, u was gonna say we really ought to get her some, but I think we should leave that to Akari since we already collared her.
>>
>>41057388

What do the chains mean?
>>
>>41057357
It's like a wedding ring. Sure, she was already Ryukusa's, but now Ryukusa just made it official to Yui as well as any gods, devils, or spirits she may contend with as well as the power that comes with such a ceremony.
>>
>>41057418

Akari wanted a collar or cuffs for herself, too.

As in, us doing it.
>>
>>41057454
>The more chains, the tighter the binding to their kami overlord. In Yui's case, she has much tighter bindings, and they're more powerful than any physical chains could be.

[+] Yui's story is beautiful and amazing.

“I rather think it's appropriate, it's pretty much what she was already doing. Akari-niji-chan is going to get hers too, so don't worry about that.” You smile, sliding your hand about her back, looking at Yui-niji-chan and Yuuhi-chan babbling excitedly at one another, the gung-ho nogitsune-child caught up in Yui's elevation, and yet ignoring the fact that technically Yui-niji-chan is above her in station. Yui too ignores that fact, and you think that's the healthiest thing you've seen for each of them in some time.

Akari is speaking to Kiku-chan and Inau-kun, and while it's clear she's speaking quite seriously, the gentle smile that graces her lips hasn't faded yet. She's truly happy for her lover, and that is also a very good thing.

“I can't think of a better revenge for her than to be elevated to a position higher than her family's was, and being treated with this love and respect alike despite that,” Kiki-hime murmurs. “I think it really is a beautiful thing to have done, Ryu-chan.”

“It wasn't spur of the moment, kasan. She deserves it. She's risked her life for us multiple times, fought for us, fought in my name literally, and rescued us both. Even faced down the daughter of the Dragon Kami she served under and told her off, though I think my wife had something to do with that.” Kiki-hime has the grace to blush. “If I could give her a greater gift, I would, but I simply can't think of anything more than the love we already give her and the power I can grant her.”
>>
>>41057724
Kiki-hime turns and slides her hands about your waist, her fingers sliding up and down the base of your tail. “I can think of at least one....” she murmurs, smiling in a very wicked manner. You blink at her implications, and she smiles her eyes glittering with humor. “Well, it's not like she can hurt ~either~ of us now, is it?” she reminds you gently, as she pulls you closer.

Laughing softly, you give Kiki-hime a long, slow kiss, feeling the warmth of her body against yours and knowing that it might be a while before you get this opportunity again. Sliding your tail up her leg, along her derrière, and to her back, you trace the kanji for 'beloved kasan' on her back. She simply traces a heart along your back with her fingers, but it means as much to you as anything else in the world she could have written.

When she breaks the kiss, she looks up at you seriously. “Hurry back to us, Ryu-chan. We need you.” Kiki-hime's demand is soft, but firm, rather than the pleading voice you expected.

The change in attitude gives you pause, but you lower your head. “I promise, Kiki-hime,” knowing full well that your promises are not just words or wishful thinking anymore.

She gazes up into your eyes, and then nods, briefly before stepping back.

Turning your attention to the others, you clap your hands twice. That gets everyone's attention back on you. “Right, now that I have your attention, I need Akari-niji-chan stripped bare.” While you had their attention before, now you have their astonishment. Kiku-chan blinks at you, and you nod calmly. With a shrug she touches Akari's skirt with a finger and it ignites, burning to ash almost instantly. Akari, shocked, looks down, which is when Yuuhi-chan strips her school uniform top off. Yui-chan giggles madly and pulls the simple white panties down, which Akari responds to with a shockingly girlish squeal of surprise.
>>
>>41057749
Kiki-hime is standing next to Inau-chan and patting her shoulder comfortingly as Inau-chan crouches facing away from the group, trying to staunch her nosebleed.

Akari-niji-chan, stripped naked, looks at you with a faint blush and little more modesty than a hand covering her breasts. Something you've never entirely understood, because wouldn't it make sense to cover up the other parts? Anyways, you pull an exactly matching outfit of black leather and lace from ~Nowhere~ and begin to dress your subordinate, which really makes her blush more, and she's looking at your plain clothing, undoubtedly imagining what's underneath.

Well, it's somewhat obvious considering the points pressed to the black lace.

[] Don't worry, you'll get yours too, Akari.

You lace the front of the vest slowly, not so tight it would hurt her breasts – a mistake you made exactly once in your life, holy shit that sucked – but tightly enough to keep her from hurting when she bounces. You smile knowingly at her as you kneel, and slowly pull the hot-pants up, tugging as you get to her thighs, one side and then the other. Her breaths have definitely gotten shallower and her blush is slowly increasing as you button up the shorts one by one. Another belt of chain for her as well. Her is gold, rather than silver of yours, just like the grommets and rivets of her outfit are. But the chains are solid steel under the shining chrome, and not merely decorative.

She looks down as you move close to reach behind her and fasten the strap over her tail. To humans it looks like a cute bottom baring gape, just not low enough to be suggestive unless she were to bend over. One hand moves up and she lightly traces your cleavage. “I take it you've been waiting for something like this for a while now,” you murmur softly.

Akari merely nods, and shivers delightfully when you pull the soft pink and white blouse over her head. A costume over a costume, and the wicked thoughts flowing through her mind are almost audible. You wrap the shirt around her waist and she sighs, toeing off her geta to slip into the ankle boots. “Are you ready for our first real battle, my niji-chan?” you ask her softly, your eyes serious and your hands sliding though her soft hair. “After, I'll make sure you get what you deserve, too.” Her lips twitch, but only a little. A tiny smile, but there's more on her mind than just sex now.

“I am sorry I pushed you, aniki.” She murmurs, still looking down. “I know you don't want to put anyone in danger.”

[X] Silly Akari-niji-chan, don't be careless.

“What a strange thing to hear the one who is supposed to make sure I don't do anything stupid say,” you comment mildly, and despite herself she smiles in response to your mild rebuke. “After all, if it is your duty to keep me grounded, it would be silly for you to be apologizing for it.” You kneel before her and lay your hand on the soft skin between vest and hot-pants, still exposed by the tied-off shirt that hides the vest. The child you made with her, one someone must have wished for, lies here, hardly more than a dream now.

“Still, I do not want my aniki to misunderstand. I want us all to be safe too.” You nod, agreeing with her reasoning and her explanation. “You're not going to let them know about it, are you.”

You glance at the others, who have finished getting ready, and who are listening attentively to Kiku-chan's instructions. “No, I don't think they need to know how dangerous this is going to be for us. Kiki-hime's gift is powerful, but it isn't enough of a difference in a fight like we're about to engage in.” The fact of the matter is, regeneration and immortality don't mean much against other spirit-children because they have a tendency to use swords, spears, and other weapons that take too long to regenerate from. Once again you hope Oba-san is still sending the recent graduates rather than her elites.

You slide the skirt up her waist after she steps into it, and lay a light kiss on her belly, bringing a soft gasp from her lips. “Besides, it's us. Anyone who gets in our way knows what they'll get for it.” The best hand to hand fighter in Clan Ryo and the Water dragonette with the speed and temper of a Fire dragonette and the deadly potency of a Water Dragonette. Your demigod nature seems impatient, or simply hyperactive; Inau-kun's warning that you were meant to Do Things suggests that a simple fight isn't entirely what will happen.
>>
>>41059581
“For the Clan, no deaths. For the Westerners....well, just keep in mind most are human.” You can't use much magic directly against humans who aren't aware of what you are; but fortunately your true enemies in the European group are very aware of them. That isn't entirely the weakness they might expect it to be.

Rising you and Akari walk over to the group, and Yui-niji-chan blinks at you and your little sister. Because, with your simple, everyday clothing and your hair tied up, you probably look like sisters. Kiki-hime is equally amused, and leans close to Yui, whispering something – and hiding her mouth with her hand as she does so. Yui nods rapidly, half seriously.

You pull Akari close and add a necklace of beads and silver to her outfit – real silver, and the beads are hard glass, weapons in her and your hands – while you add Matagama-no-Shitoki to yours. “All right. Kiku-chan, you make a second barrier inside this one. Kiki-hime, I expect you to study hard under Inau-kun; she can teach you things about your bowmanship that will save your life. Yui-niji-chan, I expect you to carry them all by cloud, and I am certain you can do it. Yuuhi-chan, the safety of my wife is in your hands – trust Kiku-chan's judgment, she can think faster than any of you.”

“I am going to deal with the Colonel, and distract the Clan Ryo warriors; after than, I'll find Shoko-san and the rest of our family.”
>>
>>41059606
The chorus of soft, 'thank you' and 'yes, aniki' are subdued, and there is determination on many of the faces before you. But Kiki-hime looks down, then closes her eyes, and speaks softly. “My Ryu-chan....you are ordered to return safely to us, and then to being us all safely home.”

[X] As kasan speaks, I obey.
[X] Enjoy Hokkaido, kasan, and I will be there soon.

You bow deeply, responding to her formality with your own. Akari-niji-chan bows more deeply than you do, respecting your wife's authority as well. “If my wife says so, it must be done of course.” Rising, you give your wife a warm smile, while Akari nods to Yui-niji-chan, and receives a brilliant smile in return. You are graced with a pleased smile from Kiki-hime. “Enjoy Hokkaido, let Kiku-chan show you the temples of Oto Jinja, kasan. I'm kind of envious – you'll get to see my temple before I do.”

the reminder that there is a temple to the mikoto of the God of Destruction there makes them look amongst themselves. “I will be there soon, with the rest of our loved ones.” you take a deep breath, wanting to indulge in more kisses and hugs; instead you nod, and Kiku-chan crouches, and places her hand on the ground. Rather than a simple Barrier, she drops some prayer beads into her other hand, and sings softly, running the beads through her tiny fist with her thumb. They waver and vanish, behind something even less substantial than a Barrier, and far more difficult for even you to detect.

You sigh and look around the forest you've frozen in time. “So....I saw Kanako-san....” you tell your niji-chan as you study the layout of the ambush area. “She's put on weight.”

“You saw someone more important than that,” Akari murmurs, walking a slow circle around the clearing taking her own judgments on the nature of the ambush they're preparing. “Five cloud riders....Void dragon-children, carrying Wood and Fire oni-children....six water dragon-children?”
>>
>>41060288
Her uncomfortable insight isn't all that hard to figure out – you had to be on the beach long enough for someone to prepare a trap and alert others. “I'd say that sounds right for how many people they think are with us. Sixteen. I doubt there are any elite warriors, outside of Kanako-san and maybe Nakamura-tan.” The Void dragonette was from Shinjuku as well, and not very bright....but she was very in tune with the Void, and could seem to pull information out of ~Nowhere~ with ease. It would only make sense to send her. “And they're not really elites, per se.”

“Kanako-san always disliked you. I am going to guess you didn't make her less angry.” Akari says it with a smile, though; the Water dragonettes always disliked your peculiar status, along with your friendship with Akari. “Kiki-hime noticed, you know.”

You and Akari have met back off-center of the clearing, and are standing back to back. You feel her hand trace your hip, and slide your fingers into hers, lacing them together and you sigh.

[X] Tell her about Umi-san.
[X] Gently explain you can't discuss it.

“The spell that Er yin-sensei cast called Kodachi Umetsumi to meet me,” you explain reluctantly.

“I remember Umetsumi-san, aniki,” Akari comments softly.

“Mmh hmn. There are things that happened that I can't discuss. But we parted ways nicely enough. She's definitely not an enemy.” You take a deep breath. “I don't know how close she and Kiki-hime were, and I don't know if that's going to be a problem. I know they were on the Student Council together, for a time.”

“I understand aniki.” Her stoic words are enough to make you relax. “She doesn't know what happened to Umetsumi-san to make her quit the council, only that it involved a death in the family.” You manage not to tense at least.

“She's had a difficult life. I think it will get better though.” You squeeze Akari's hand once more, and she squeezes back, before taking a few steps forward. “Chains. Because of the oni-children.”

You turn your mind back to the business at hand as well, relieved by the fact that your best friend was friends with your wife for longer than you knew. “Yes. Darts, as well, from above. Probably in the trees. Wooden ones.”

“Wood?”

You nod. “For you.”

“Unfortunate. Umbrellas?”

“No, my left hand, I think. We'll probably have to replace the skirts though.”

“All right aniki.”

You nods....and the barrier drops.

The sound of chains whispering through the air and the hissing sound of arrows erupt around you instantly. Akari catches two sets of oni-forged chains and wraps them around her wrists, yanking them towards her. The yelp of one is simultaneous with the shocked cry of the other as he's pulled off his feet and towards Akari, who smashes the Fire oni-child in the chest and hurls him back at his smarter but less lucky friend.

You whip a fan out of nowhere, taking a page from your sister's book, and send a wash of wind arcing through the hail of ten arrows with it, sending them into the oni-children nearest you even as you use a no-hands cartwheel to kick the two chains away. The chains fly wildly away, withdrawn by their wielders, and you land in a wu shu stance, snapping the fan shut.

Overhearing the soft curses and the worried whispers of “Kamidamnit, it's both of them!”, you grin and Akari draws discards one chain at her feet while whipping the other to her free hand and whirling it quickly.

Does the "Surrender" option includes full on "you can become part of my clan" proposal?
>>
>>41061663
That will be within negotiation, however the amount of good stuff we have right now...I'd say keeping them neutral and advising them to help get people out of Oba-san's clutches will be both more effective (she's not doing this for power, it's for Japan) as well as karmically viable.

[XXX] Come on out, Kanako-san, don't be like the last two leaders!
[XXX] Surrender, and I'll let you live!
[XXX] ~SMILE.~

You stand up and snap the fan out, lightly waving it before your face, cool and collected. Water dragonette to Water dragonette, you know she sees it just as you mean it: worry is for anyone who isn't you. “The last two Clan Ryo leaders were somewhat less considerate; come out, Kanako-san, and lets not have you be like them.” You see her emerge from the darkness of the forest, along with a Stone dragonne, and a rather dour looking Wood oni-child, also male. “That's better. I don't suppose you'll surrender if I promise to let you live? No? Ah, well.” She smirks, but you can see that she's worried, very worried.

She should be, she just doesn't know exactly why yet.

“Ryuu Ryukusa, the cherished favorite of Oba-chan; and Hebiki Akari, the most talented warrior in all Clan Ryo. I am here to ask for your surrender and to escort you to Oba-chan.” She places one hand on her hip and tilts her head, the other hand free. Kanako-san doesn't expect you to surrender, she expects that she'll have to capture one of you to make the other surrender, and she's letting you know that's what she'll do by her stance and expression. “Perhaps you'd like to negotiate a peaceful truce, and allow us to escort you without surrender to Oba-chan?”

Oddly, she's actually willing to consider it. Not entirely what you expected. Then again, she wasn't expecting you to have Akari with you.

Akari's tail-tip twitches across your ankle lightly – her own sister is here, apparently. Another surprise.

>>41061711

Akari's here, though. She could use her good stuff.

Considering what she went through, I think she must have quite a bit

Oho, now that's a fun complication.

Lowering the fan slowly, you smile at Kanako-san....and the smile is disturbing enough that both her companions take a step back, and her own smile falters. “It's Ryuu Akari now; she's part of my family. She has the ring to prove it as well.” Akari lifts the hand with the chain wrapped around her wrist and shows her ring to the people she's facing down at your back. There are some startled curses and soft gasps alike. Continuing to whirl the other end of the chain menacingly, she lets you do as you usually do – which is to give the enemy their chances.

On the other hand, a peaceable solution, while getting you something you want? You don't have to fight Oba-san immediately after all – just make her back off. And an idea occurs to you....she may not know what Taisho Ryoga has been up to. Oba-san might be a bitch, and cruel, and manipulative, but she is loyal to the Emperor.

On the other hand, you know very little about Akari's sister other than she's a Stone dragonette as well, and very high up in her own clan. The fact that she's here may be a threat to you....or she might be here for Akari. That's a question you can't afford to answer wrong....

Your smile gets a little wider.

“I understand the last two groups that were sent to collect me haven't returned home....do you want to know why, Kanako-san?” The step back that she takes tells you everything you need to know.

They've been told you're not a dragonette any longer, but something else....something very, very dangerous.

If only they knew....

>To Be Continued....

Thanks for the session!

I have two questions: does Ryukusa think that telling the opponent about how every single one of Oba-shit "favors" was a poison in disguise would help persuad them?

And do you have a picture of Yui's collar?
>>
>>41061802
Akari's sister is older right? How much?>>41061824
But she can have as much of Ryukusa's delicious good stuff as she wants!
>>
>>41061802
Cheers for the thread
>>
>Oba-chan
I find Kanako calling the old snake this odd for some reason. It's like far too "close".
>>
>>41061830
It's very difficult for Ryukusa to prove that Oba-san's favors are not the gifts they seem. On the other hand, people outside of Clan Ryo might be willign to listen, because realistically you're Yakuza - trust at face value is just stupid.

No, sorry, I have no picture of Yui's collar - yet. I'll draw it later.

>>41061834
She's about 15 years older than 16 year old Akari, making her 31. You have no idea why Akari refers to her as Cake-chan, but you suspect it's not polite.
>>
>>41061866

Probably a mockery. We're her "favorite"
>>
>>41061866
At the first of the threads, Ryukusa called her Oba-chan as well. Oba-san encourages the younger generation to consider her a kindly old aunt. Which she seems to be, on the surface.
>>
>>41061911

Thanks!
>>
I'm curious to know if Akari's sis care for her. We'll know next time, I suppose
>>
>>41061911
>>41061834

Correction - Akari is 17. Naoto is 31 still, though.
>>
>>41061951
Akari seems to have implied that she was too young to be very important when she originally left her own clan at the age of five, and that her Great -grandmother, while kind, was very quiet and not talkative. What little contact she has is through letters to her sister, which are polite, succinct and generally uninformative.

Thank you for running, XS!

May I ask how this group of Dragonettes and Oni might react to the news of how Ryuu Wakaba died as well as Oba-san's incompetence in raising Ryukusa?
>>
>>41061911
Poor Christmas cake.
>>
>>41062028
Ryukusa's best guess, at this point, is with extreme dismay, and probably a lot of anger where Wakaba is concerned.

On the other hand, Ryukusa would have to prove she;s a demigod to be able to point out Oba-san's duplicity. As you can guess, that'a a great deal easier said than done at first - eventually they're going realize what Ryukusa is on their own, but they have to be allowed to observe and listen long enough to do so.

If Ryukusa claims demigod-hood before they realize it themselves, their doubt will make it harder for them to recognize, at least until the Water and Stone and Fire and Void and Wood Eyes opened.
>>
>>41062150
So if we ask them to 'open their eyes' could we avoid bloodshed?

Also, to answer a question about how the situation between Ryukusa and Umi-san came about in such a strangely coincidental manner....

Remember, Ryukusa wasn't born a dragonette entirely - she was born a demigod and trained to not be one. She was hero material before she became a thug, and the universe pushed her towards heroism right from the start.

Demigods, in case you hadn't noticed, are very....attractive people. Even the ugliest ones have some kind of allure. That Umetsumi and Ryukusa found one another and developed a close relationship (their mutual enjoyment of lilies, though not one another aside from companionship in loneliness) was almost inevitable. Umi-san suffering whatever her half-brother tried to do to her (and several anons have guessed at what happened) was almost as inevitable. Ryukusa acted on instinct rather than with forethought, as befitting her youthful nature, and she stopped Umi-san's brother the only way she knew how (or could, he was much older and she lacked her powers).

That not only ended their relationship through the shame Umi-san suffered but with the brutality that Ryukusa was capable of. It was the main reason she did not want Kiki-hime to see her kill anyone.

As a side note, in Japan speaking of a shameful thing is far more shameful than actually suffering through a shameful thing. Hence Ryukusa and Umetsumi's hedging around the subject, even to themselves. Especially to themselves. .
>>
>>41062216
Depends on if they think it's safe to do so after being invited to do so by someone who has suggested she might be responsible for the entire wipe-out of two squads of Clan Ryo warriors.
>>
>>41062224
>in Japan speaking of a shameful thing is far more shameful than actually suffering through a shameful thing
So if I talk about that dude that stepped on dog poop, shame on me and my cow? Kinda weird.
>>
>>41062281
No - if the dude who stepped in cow poop talks about how he stepped in cow poop, that's his further shame to do so.

ryukusa doesn't talk about killign umi-san's brother because she's ashamed (she will never admit that) of having done so to an extent - it WAS an unsanctioned murder, after all and she hid the body, and the worst shame is it cost her a friendship.
>>
>>41062281
Not quite accurate, I think, but remember anon that at least in this circumstance we aren't so quick to talk about it either. The reasons might not be quite the same culturally, but that's the case for a lot of things.
>>
>>41062339
That does sound bad for Ryukuza's psyche.
>>
>>41062281
Cultures are weird. Consider a society where karma is believed to exist, and you must deserve what happens to you. The truth, the whole truth, and so on are quite different.

And if you talk about it, well, you're complaining, right? Aren't you strong enough to shoulder your burdens? Everything is fine and right in our society, after all, so clearly it's YOU that is the problem.
