Alright, we have our character. We need a name.

Your character is big. Really big. His high school football coach salivated over his natural strength and size - this character weighs 300 lbs. and is over 6'5". What got him into wrestling? You decide, here's his Level 1 stats.

Name:
Weight Class: Super Heavyweight (300 lbs)
WM: +4

ATH: +1
BRW: +1
FLR: -1
INS: +1
POW: +4

Skills: Knowledge: Power Maneuvers +2, Knowledge: Athletic Maneuvers +1, Presence +1

GE: MF: Power, MF: Athletic, Refocusing Your Might, Feat of Strength
Flaws: Unlucky

These stats will make more sense when we get into the game. Hang on, info dump incoming.

I'd say he felt like a freak and was really into fantasy stuff in school so he was bullied a lot and lost himself in his books. He saw a wrestling match on TV and found the stories and acting to be like his books and decided that wrestling was the job for him.

"So? You in?"

The man in front of you is called Tad Ferris. His brother, Brad, sits next to him behind a cheap foldout table. Why two pro wrestling fans chose a job exposition to set up recruitment is beyond you, but it certainly caught your attention. The Westalia Convention Center is bustling with activity; down economies will do that. In a crowd of Wal-Mart greeters and elevator salesmen, your six foot frame and muscled physique cuts an imposing figure.

Tad and Brad waved you over the second you walked in the door, shaking your hand and slapping you on the back. They're about as tall as you are but they're less muscular and flabby around the middle. Identical twins with rhyming names, poor bastards.

Their table is draped with a homemade banner reading "BACKYARD DESTRUCTION WRESTLING - UNLEESH THE BEEST WITHIN!" You can't tell if the typos are intentional or not.

They make a compelling case - three shows a month at $15 a set with a special training camp thrown in. It certainly beats cashier work, and you'll get free access to the brothers' exercise equipment. It's nowhere near enough cash to live on, but it's not like you'll be doing this full-time starting out.

Brad laughs. "$15 bucks is a good deal, hombre. You won't find better around these parts, unless you want to shell out for some fancy tumbling school over in Allentown." You know he's right, pro wrestling's been your hobby since you were in high school. Signing up for local schools is really expensive, however. In fact, Brad and Tad are the first wrestling promoters you've ever seen who actually volunteered their time to train you without asking for a fee. Still... (1d20.)

Brad leans back in his chair, clearly unconvinced. "$15. Nothing more." That settles that. You sign a waiver, exchange phone numbers, and then you leave to find another booth. The next few hours are a blur - you sign up for some server job at a local pub, go back to your apartment to collect some old workout clothes, and grab a bus to a small suburb about an hour away. Tad and Brad were very specific that they wanted you at their place tonight.

The bus drops you off outside a dilapidated neighborhood, outwardly abandoned discounting stringers of drying clothes and children's toys on brown lawns. Tad and Brad's house sits at the end of the only cul-de-sac, a marginally impressive affair in that it's the only house you've seen with a decent coat of paint.

The jocular pair greet you with handshakes and back slaps, again, and direct you through their home to the backyard, where a crude wrestling ring dominates their parched lawn. There are four other people lounging on folding chairs, a woman and three men.

"Alright, recruits! Meet the newest member of Backyard Destruction Wrestling!"

(Df10, success)

The backyard is soon shrouded in darkness, illuminated by the Ferris Brothers' back porch lights. You take a bump and the whole ring shakes, drawing hoots from Tad and a few glances from the other wrestler.

"Damn straight! Do it again!" Tad says.

You've had some ring experience - your high school days were defined by your large size. You tried out for the cheerleading squad to get some tumbling training and you did alright until you broke some poor girl's ankle by falling on her during drills.

The other wrestlers are doing tumble drills on the cracked, dead lawn and aren't happy about it. Brad, Clown Boy, hops in the ring and pushes Tad out of his way.

"You lettin' the new guy hog the ring? Make him get in the dirt, let us practice in here."

Brad and Tad exchanged looks. You feel a strange tension between the twins and Brad, but you're used to being talked about, not necessarily talked to.

"Alright, take it easy Brad. Hey Karl, go practice with Wyvern and Beth. We'll work on some advanced moves up here with Brad and Shane."

Wyvern and Canadienne are chatty, but friendly. Alex, Wyvern, seems just as into fantasy novels as you are, and Beth, Canadienne, is a really impressive athlete.

You share a lot of interests with Alex. He walks you through the tumble drill with Beth and soon you're rolling through the dirt and leaping over each other, bouncing off of ropes suspended between re-bar poles driven into the lawn.

Alex is a huge fantasy geek, moreso than yourself by your own reckoning. Sure, you like fantasy and roleplaying games, but Alex's conversation quickly enters a level of detail you've honestly never even considered.

"I mean, seriously, it's not hard to tell the difference between a wyvern and a dragon! That's why I chose the name, dragons are so mainstream now. Wyverns are mentioned a lot in European history, at least as much as dragons. I was reading this one book by..."

The discussion continues, and by the end of the drill the three of you are covered in dirt and dead grass. Shane and Brad are practicing moves in the ring, and it looks like they're having a rough time of it. The Ferris Brothers look on, but don't really say much. They seem preoccupied with a little notebook they keep passing to one another, laughing and scribbling away while their stable trains. It's been an hour and your back is sore, but the brothers said it would be a three hour practice.

Shane and Brad lock up and Brad goes for a DDT. You can see from the yard his grip is too tight - Shane is clearly struggling to get his head into the right position. You aren't a wrestling expert, but you know a headlock when you see one.

Wyvern and Canadienne amble back towards the ring, hopelessly trying to wipe dirt from their legs and clothes. Tad and his brother are busy with their notebook. Shane taps on Brad's shoulder, but the reedy wrestler cracks a sick smile as he winds up for the drop.

"Dude, ease up on that hold!"

The twins drop their notebook, stunned. Wyvern and Canadienne look at you with silent, pleading stares. Brad drops Shane, leaps from the ring, and he stomps purposefully towards you.

"You say something to me?" You're taller and heavier than Brad by at least two hundred pounds and a foot, but he shows absolutely no fear. You do get a better chance to see his face and shoulders - his skin is pockmarked with scars and bruises; his teeth are all but rotting and his breath is disgusting. This guy's on drugs.

Brad Ferris approaches Clown Boy slowly, "Hey man, it's time for a water break..."

"Dumb tall motherfucker coming into my ring on the first night like he owns it..."

"...some Gatorade in the fridge in there..."

"...disrespect me in front of the crew like he's fixing to do something about my moves..."

"...let me go grab one and we'll work on the angles for next week..."

"...say it again, freakshow, see what happens!"

Well, this is confusing. Clown Boy wears the pants of this outfit, clearly, but you don't understand why. You could probably take him if things came to blows, but those scars tell you he's probably tougher than he looks. Canadienne is sitting on the ring and sipping on a bottled water, her face the picture of exasperation. This probably happens a lot.

You walk past Brad without looking at him and get into the ring. Shane's resting on the turnbuckle, massaging his neck. He looks up at you as you enter the ring and shakes his finger.

"No no no, not right now, you're gonna get us both in trouble." He turns away from you and rests his head on the turnbuckle.

Something tugs your foot from the edge of the mat and your knee crashes into the ring. Searing pain shoots up your thigh.

"I ain't done with you yet, fuckface. Walkin' past me like you ain't saw me, tall ugly motherfucker..."

Canadienne throws her water bottle at him. "Fuck off, Brad, it's his first night!" Brad is now at your face level, and your knee is killing you. The Ferris Brothers have retreated into the house and Wyvern is standing near Canadienne, warily eyeing the situation.

"You want to be a wrestler? You gotta take the stiff hits." Brad leaps over the top rope and pulls you into the ring.

"Let's go!"

(9 vs. 19, fail/ 21 vs. 20, win)
Brad's flailing legs catch your injured knee and your grip falters. He slips out of your hold and winds up for another haymaker!

A pair of toned arms reach through Brad's legs and flip him end over end into a textbook pin. Canadienne wrenches Brad's legs well past his head.

"That's enough," she says severely.

"Fuck you!" Brad spits, struggling.

"LET HIM GO!" Tad and his brother are back from the kitchen, hauling a cooler out to the ring. Tad runs into the ring and helps Brad to his feet. For a second, it looks like Brad might try to attack again, but then that same sick smile creeps across his face.

"I quit!" Everyone in the ring gasps.

"Brad, you can't..." but Tad's plea falls on deaf ears. Brad's out of the ring and far from the backyard before anyone can say anything more substantial than "Shit."

Tad looks at you, shaking with anger.

"You know who bought this ring? He did. You know who pays all the dues? He did. You know why Backyard Destruction Wrestling exists? Him! And now he's gone!"

"Tad, this was going to happen sooner or later," Wyvern steps forward, ", the rest of us will pay what we can."

"Uh, fuck that," Shane says, ",you book us some events that are worth a shit and then we'll talk about dues."

"Like anyone would pay to see you no-sell an eye rake, Shane," Canadienne chips in. Soon everyone in the ring is arguing and pointing fingers, Brad's departure clearly ripping the scab off of some old wounds.

"Alright! Everyone shut up!" Tad says. "We'll work through this, we just need some new leads."

Tad stabs his finger at you.

"You're going to get us some primo leads or you're going to fuck off out of BDW. That goes for the rest of you, too."

The training ended early. Canadienne and Wyvern tell you not to worry about Tad and Brad, and on the long bus ride home you wonder what you've gotten yourself into.

Good first night! Be sure to pump this one up on sup/tg/.
