And here we are, the first shrine down and the band back together. I thought it might be time for another Q&A session since I woke up too late to run a proper thread. Plus, since there was some talk in the last thread about whether or not to take some time off with Emma, or go ahead to the next shrine without her, I figured before I worked ahead we should put that particular matter to bed.

Further, I'd like some feedback about what you would like to see more/less of, field comments/concerns/complaints, and just general touch base with you about what's going on.

So, let's get this show on the road. Awwooo~!
>>
>>40992978
I say Leaving/taking Emma depends on how she reacts to us.

Concerned about the fact you seemingly gave all dragon's a massive power up, and that the drawbacks don't outweigh the risks. Also concerned about the Kiva thing tbh. Will we be going berserk more/easier now?
>>
>>40993114
What do you mean about the "dragon's power" bit? Just for clarification's sake.

As for the Kiva thing, you've felt Yra's unbridled fury. I imagine, like most sapient creatures, that's going to leave you pretty mindful about potential fallout. Your temper has always been pretty even, so barring another catastrophic failure, I'd figure that your temper will remain pretty well in check.

Of course, that's up to how you want to play it. I personally see Nadia being a lot more careful about keeping her presence of mind.
>>
>>40993211
I do too, but some anons.......

I meant about the power up for dragon's form id that they can turn into a living avatar of fuck you and don't seem to go mad until they've been stuck there for a long time. Additionally make them A LOT more powerful.
>>
>>40993261
Power comes with age, but the form change does confer bonuses. Kardas and Sylea are both over a hundred or so... and you're right, unless they spend a lot of time in the form (it doesn't have to be all at once), they usually maintain their mental state.

As for power, one "man" killed an entire sailing vessel full of people, and then sunk the thing. I don't know how much more powerful I could make them without people thinking they were too overbearing to even think of challenging.
>>
>>40993333
What I meant was holy fuck that's an upgrade and a half. Djanna could solo most shit. There's a reason intelligently played Dragons are fucking terrifying.

How's the village going to react to us killing kiva?
>>
>>40993391
There may be a price to pay, but given the kindness you did for the Elder's son, he's going to argue in your favor.

However, there were people in the village who backed Kiva's way of doing things. Finding out he's dead is not going to sit well.

You may have even gained a new enemy.

In the end, Kiva's death may be the cause of a change in leadership, but it will likely be bloodless.
>>
>>40993474
Oh please. Kiva pushed that might makes right shit.. and then got wrecked. IF they get upset about that they're all hypocrites.

Djanna still keeping her mental acuity or is she now a giant autistic dragon?

How the hell did her father force her into full retard mode?
>>
>>40993474
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I assume that dragons changing form isn't exactly a painless seamless thing, I assume its at least slightly jarring and would leave a whole period of time where the writhing changing mass of flesh that is the transforming dragon is extremely vulnerable to being repeatedly stabbed or shot or magicked.

By any chance, how does the transformation work? Is it magic, or a racial ability that just falls under being weird. Or is it just a physical thing?
>>40993719
Also I assume Djanna will be fine if she stays in her normal form.
>>
>>40993719
He did push power, but you're a relative unknown, and as far as what Cain witnessed, you attacked Kiva. Kiva was just trying to keep the dragon off of you. Cain will defend your actions, obviously, but that's as he saw it go down. As for the hypocrisy of his followers, it was more a cult of personality than it was their adherence to his values.

Djanna will maintain her mental faculties. A single change, protracted over a handful of days, won't be enough to change her. Might be a bit more treasure-crazy, but that should pass with time spent in hominid form.

As for how he forced her to change, he bullied her. Combination of magic, sleep deprivation, and fear brought on the change. Kardas is an effective fighter, but he's far from Father of the Year material. Why do you think Sylea left him behind when she found out she was eggnant?
>>
>>40993847
So if we ever get the chance we should gank him. Got it.
>>
>>40993847
So, how does the change work? With dragons, is it physical, magical, or some weird racial thing that falls under neither?
>>
Since Char'-Sheet updating was your dump stat', what the hell of kind of Evo' is Nadia now?
>>
>>40993938
Weird racial thing. When they reach a certain age, they gain the ability, but it usually is brought on by some form of trauma.

It's an interesting thing to note that the more monstrous the individual, the more often they lose themselves entirely in their draconic form and revel in the murder and mayhem.

That's not to say there aren't good "dragon" dragons, they just happen to be a rarity.
>>
>>40993982
You know, I don't even know how you'd describe it. If I had all of this to do over again, I don't even think I'd frame this as an RE quest, just an adventure quest with non-typical party members.

I suppose she's probably a wolf-man type evo now, close go Glabros if you know W:tA: thicker fur for damage reduction, lean muscle for faster movement, small size for higher damage impacts and because it's adorable...
>>
>>40994009
Aww, so much for the RE: Lizard quest style "Throw the wrong type of magic at it until it explodes" Counter to dragons.
>>
>>40994098
How many years will Emma have to deal with nightmares and severe trust issues?
>>
>>40994098
>Adorable

It's also going to crush Nadia when Emma ends up being taller.
>>
>>40994098
How long until Emma gets a new evo that makers her 6ft
>>
>>40994098
Is there an evo' we can take that will shift us into Crinos?
>>
>>40994135
After this? Depends on how long she lives.

>>40994150
That's locked behind story reasons, but I'd say she's still evo level one. Probably about 4 is when she'll hit Nadia's height.

>>40994193
Might be a case where you can take on a battle form, but being in Crinos perpetually? Maybe.
>>
>>40994193
>Nadia shifting into battle form 24/7 so she can be taller. She can't talk in it just happy wag to communicate.
>>
>>40994312
will she ever forgive us?
>>
>>40994312
So we mentally Broke Emma?
>>
>>40994517
>>40994522
She's not broken, but she's got a lot of trust issues.

A friend of mine is about to graduate with a bachelor's in psychology. He's been giving me some pointers on how to handle Emma's character realistically.

Basically, Emma will never be how she was before. She may become close to Nadia again - closer, even - but she might not ever again be the cuddly, lap-sittiing girl she was.

That remains to be seen and in how you handle it, though.
>>
>>40994617
Well it was a fun ride lotus but I'm out. Your running a game and inserting in real world psychology to destroy relationships between the characters.

Thanks for the threads.
>>
>>40994617
All right then.

>>40994661
Dude this was never going to be as hugboxy as some quests. WE fuck up and consequences happen.
>>
For those of us who keep missing threads, any chance of write-ups?
>>
>>40994661
I don't even know how to respond to this.

I was looking for help accurately portraying her mental state, not- y'know what? Have fun. See ya around.
>>
>>40994661
Another one bites the dust.

Also, as far as trap options go, that one was pretty fucking obvious. Hell, it might as well have been a "Shoot your own party" option.
>>
>>40994744
You are fine, lotus. Someone is just salty.
>>
>>40994722
There's always the archives, or were you talking about a synopsis?
>>
>>40994769
Yep. Or whatever you call cliff-notes of sessions.
>>
>>40994799
I could work on that. I might take a week off sometime this month to see if I can hammer out a rough draft of a book, so I could do them in that span.
>>
>>40994799
Yup.

You also said you'd be working on a novelization of the thread
>>
>>40994835
Me or Lotus?
>>
>>40994835
I may meed to recruit somebody for that. I think I'm too self-critical. Looking at my old stuff makes me want to set my laptop on fire and never write again.
>>
>>40994900
You and everybody else. Just give up on making your past work better and concentrate on making your future work better.
>>
>>40994935
Fair enough.

That being said, what would you all like to see more of/improved on/expanded?
>>
>>40995018
In terms of what? The story? Characterisation? Mechanics? Blessings? What?
>>
>>40995129
Yes. Anything, really.

What can I do to give you a better quest.
>>
>>40995159
You can start by making the mechanics clearer, especially on the Evo' front, and don't forget to make it applicable to the entire world.

And make sure you have your mythology hammered out. You don't have to tell us it, but it does have to be internally consistent with itself. NO contradictions w/o a good reason.
>>
>>40995159
Story wise we seems to be going fairly fast, 3rd tier and only 2 shrines down means either we're going to power bloat a lot or plateau fast. The combat goes fast too usually, 1-2 rounds to kill a giant fish monster.
>>
>>40995613
2 Shrines out of what? 5? 25? 10 & the secret 3 devoted to the Gods that once were?

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, A TICK IS NOT A DRINK!
>>
>>40995637
YES IT IS YOU SQUEEZE THE FAT PART AND THE DRINK COMES OUT

>>40995613
In his defense the changes appear to be getting slighter and the bonuses more specialised. Soon it'll be stuff like +1% Crit and shit like that.
>>
>>40995586
What do you mean by contradictory mythology?
>>
>>40997951
Honestly, that part didn't make sense to me either, especially since multiple different people have told us myths from completely different groups, meaning they wouldn't know the same shit.
>>
>>40997951
I mean contradictions within the mythology itself, not with how it is told between people i.e. it is a fact that God X did action Y, but People N and Z interpet this differently as to God X's reasons and the extent of action Y.
>>
>>40997951
>>40998204
Plotholes, he's saying avoid plotholes by writing out your notes. Simple shit, don't know why he spends so many words on it.
>>
>>40994617

That's a fucking problem.
>>
>>40995018

Stop being so damn grim all the time and give characters and the plot a chance to recover. This shit with the kitsune, it's problems waiting to happen, as is teaching the young paladin that her god is a terrifying asshole who would have her murder and eat her own family at the drop of a hat.
>>
>>40995159
Maybe some relative downtime. A lot of our encounters are the stuff sung of in myth. It'd be nice to just go after some bandits or something while we work on making Emma trust us again and developing some passive skills.
>>
>>40998670
Well yeah, he's an old god, they tend to be that way.
>>
>>40998670
>give characters and the plot a chance to recover.
Gotta agree on this point, now that the party is back together again.
>>
>>40998759
To that end, how about an extended hunting trip? Not one where we kill one big thing that's feeds our small group, or a single roll which nets us X rabbits, but a long involved trip where we need to kill and bring back enough meat to feed an entire town, where the largest thing we'll get is a buck.

Just something long and involved where we make plans for each encounter and have some fun with our friends.
>>
>>40998670

This is too acidic a way to put it, but the essential point should hold true. You seem to have this obsession with making every decision the wrong one in some sense or the other, and in your haste to add more and more labyrinthine pitfalls, you often overshoot what the protagonist should be able to reasonably cope with and then keep going.

Blowing up the boat right after the party had barely gotten back together, doing so with no rolls: that was questionable. Invalidating Nadia's very faith in the god she serves after this entire island arc, actively turning her against the party and specifically mentioning her developing cannibalistic desires at the behest of her god, that's beyond overkill. Realistically, you've wrecked this character, or you at least should have wrecked her connection to the divine.

Honestly, whatever glue is holding Nadia together after this, slap some on Emma and call it a day. Grim can be alright, but in the end, I think it's the emotional reconciliation following bad tidings that people really gravitate toward. Leastways, if you cause the players to lose her at this juncture, your ears will bleed.
>>
>>40998857
>>40998891
>>40998759
>>40998839
Nope. Emma will never really trust Nadia again.
>>
>>40999822

She kind of tried to incinerate us that one time when caught up in her memories, and we forgave her just the same. Honestly, given that incident and the nature of the single decision that was made, I don't think this should be a moment where Lotus should be saying: "You better hope you say everything right next session or you might lose her."

Maybe he's just trying to drum up the drama and doesn't want to flat out say "Of course this will all be alright", but given his tendencies, I can legitimately see him trying to invent reasons why this incident will tear Nadia's group apart.
>>
>>40999822

Well, then I suppose the players will never really trust Lotus again, and the result will be about the same, in and out of game. Small nicks and scrapes will become festering wounds if given no time to heal.
>>
>>40998891
Emma wasn't exactly mentally balanced from the word 'go' though. I don't think I ever showed otherwise. As for making Nadia question her god, I hope I'm not putting too much out here when I say I know what I'm trying to get across even if it may have been a bit extreme. Trashing the boat, and Djanna getting kidnapped was always in the cards; that was her "training" arc, or the prelude to it.
>>
>>40998839
That's why I started the Q&A.

On that note, sorry for disappearing. Got called in to handle somethimg at work.
>>
>>40999938
Considering things have worked out all right to this point, and nobody but Kiva has died, I really do find your lack of faith disturbing.
>>
>>40998759
That sounds like the prevailing idea. Gives me what I need to go on, anyhow.
>>
>>41001647
Well not him. But I'm sorta in the mode of: Emma burns us? Ehh it's good we're good!

We lash out at Emma: Nadia is evil I should have just stayed with the horrible zombie everything would have been better there.
>>
>>41001671
No, no, I get what you're saying. Emma has a ton of emotional/mental baggage. Her knee-jerk reaction is the breakdown she's presently experiencing. Easier to heal physical wounds than mental. She'll be able to make that parallel once she gets out of her own head, back to a safe location, etc.

You haven't lost her, but consider her track record with sisters to this point.
>>
>>41001768
I don't know. I'm just pissed that the Nadia/Emma dynamic is shot/dead.
>>
>>41001899
It can recover, and it can be stronger. Just be yourselves, continue to show Emma your love and dedication. She doesn't hate you, she's just shellshocked.
>>
>>41002044
>Emma will never be how she was before.
>>
>>41002070
Personality wise, the blindly cuddly/clingy catdog. She'll grow and evolve as a character. That's not a bad thing.
>>
>>41002120
Growth is good.

Losing cuddly stuff is always a bad thing.

With the way you've sold it, it sort of feels like: "No it's great! You can even be close.. I mean she'll never trust you implicitly.. but that's a good thing, everyone is always out to get you!"
>>
>>41002158
Then I spoke poorly, and I apologize.
>>
>>41002195
Yeah I'm probably overly paranoid. I just joined originally for cuddles.. and got a bit more grim than I expected.

I still enjoy it but the only fuzzy parts that I had signed up for resided with Emma.

Then I'm told that's shot and it was sort of a "Well fuck me."

I can handle rough combat and the like but if this just turns into

Kobold: Everyone you think is family will leave you: The quest
>>
>>41002195
Oh thank fuck.
>>
>>41002195
Oh. Whelp then I over reacted earlier and I'll re-follow you. More the fool me I suppose.
>>
>>41002227
Don't worry. Things will tend to work out all right unless people blatantly go for the self-destructive route. I'm not going to say it'll all be sunshine and daisies because that's not how I do things, but happy emdimgs are sweeter when they're earned, aren't they?
>>
>>41002322
Very true
>>
So it looks like we're more or less agreed on some TLC time with Emma in the coming weeks. Bit of family bonding.
>>

Awoo was indeed a mistake.
>>
>>41004467
Yes, in between panicking about being too strong to hurt others. Realizing that were shorter. Aunt and uncle bonding time. Wallowing in pity over shrinkage. Checking out Djanna and her new form. Secretly loathing that shes gotten even bigger. Worrying about bringing about our berserk state when using healing powers ect ect
>>
>>41005691
Now, the important question:

Head home to Dvotysk, or travel on to meet your trainer and do time off there? You're closer to Jakt.
>>
>>41004467
Yes, no more heavy adventuring and life threatening danger untill everything is good with Emma again.
>>
>>41005753
I'd rather go on to meet our trainer, since it's closer.
>>
>>41005753
Travel on. 2/3rds of our reason to ever go back to Crazyville just saved us, and the last third's probably already been burnt.
>>
>>41005820
You just want to leave Garush, Nurrim, and Maya behind?
>>
>>41005835
Mixed up the city and the warrens since I figured that's what head home meant and couldn't remember its name. The point stands though.

And Garush kind of lives there. We'll send him a letter or something.
>>
>>41005933
I don't think Nadia's the type to abandon her parents.

Although, granted, she's known Garush longer really...
>>
>>41002322
>unless people blatantly go for the self-destructive route
Yeah, on that note, was the vote when we first started berserking and had the choice to go after Kiva or try to stop berserking ever really a choice then?
Were you surprised by the vote's outcome?
>>
>>41006361
A little, yeah. You would have had normal difficulty for suppressing it if you'd tried to fight it down as soon as the fit started, before you gave over.
>>
>>41006381
>tfw you were the the late vote that could have forced a tie but missed by minute due to work.
>>
>>41006439
It's all right. At least it wasn't Emma.
>>
>>41006439
>tfw you only missed the vote because Lotus didn't put quest in the title
>>
>>41006381
So to clarify, the continue berserking option was essentially a trap option?
>>
>>41006457
Still it effectively destroyed our relationship with Yra and basically negates our whole reason to be up here. It also tucked up our relationship with Emma and quite likely Djanna too if she remembers anything that happened.
>>
>>41006496
I could reassure you about the relationship with the gods, but that would be telling. Nadia should be questioning them, she should be questioning Yra's fury, and being used as his vessel.

You can give up, or seek answers. That's up to you.

>>41006494
Looking at it as a trap option is wrong, I think. Would you have been less upset if I'd only given you the option to resist and a failure had resulted in more berserking? When your options are fully laid out, it's hardly a trap. Just my opinion.
>>
>>41006596
I'm going to enjoy towing the line between Yara heal and Yara KILL EVERYONE.
>>
>>41006710
There's not going to be any line. He's going to have us go full Hercules at the earliest opportunity.
>>
>>41006439
>tfw you tipped the vote in favour of berserking and could have avoided all of this
>>
Thread today?
>>
>>41006596

Don't try to maroon the adventure so that we can fix your NPC. Resolve this quickly and cleanly.
>>
>>41011754
Fuck you.
>>
Question from a wandering draw friend, can I get some decent descriptions on Nadia atm? I know she is now white and curly but does this also include her hair? And anything special about her outfit/armor
