Time's up.

You've spent the entire week training with Kaya, undergoing difficult tests of endurance, speed, strength, stamina, and agility. You've put everything you have into your work, and Kaya has trained you to the best of her ability. With all of this hard work, you've grown far more powerful than you were a few short days ago.

You just hope it will be enough.

You rush through the woods with Kaya, the Demon Compass on your wrist pointing the way towards Arthur, and hopefully, Bruce. With every step you take, you become more and more convinced that you're being watched.

"Arthur probably has servants watching for our approach," Kaya tells you. "He'll know what we're coming, of course."

Of course.

You finally make your way out of the woods, finding yourself standing just outside of Allentown. The compass continues to direct you forward, and you follow its directions, though you become more wary in the meantime.

Students from your town have never gotten along with students from Allentown. If someone from one town goes into the other, it's just asking for trouble. So, you aren't surprised when a trio of idiots marches up to you and Kaya.

"Well, I'll be damned," the largest one says. "Isn't this the little punk that Tim shot?"

"Yeah, guess he really was trying to kill himself," another of the boys comments. "Why else would he come here after surviving a gunshot?"

"Well, buddy, we'll be happy to help you out there," the last one says. "Don't know why you brought your little girlfriend here to see it, but we'll be sure to show her a good time once we're done."

Kaya makes a disgusted face.

"I don't have time for this," you tell the group, not wanting to waste your time with a bunch of idiots like them.

"Well, that's too bad," the big guy tells you. "If you don't have time for this, you shouldn't be in Allentown."

"Yo! What are you guys doing?" a voice asks from nearby. "You're not shaking down the elementary school kids again, are you?"

"Of course not!" one of the goons in front of you says, turning towards the speaker. "Some idiot from Clarkfield is here, and we're just giving him a warm welcome."

"What? Who in Clarkfield is stupid enough to come here?" the voice asks from behind them.

The group steps aside, and Richard steps forward, stopping when he sees that it's you.

"Alright guys, change of plans," he announces. "Leave this guy and his lady friend here alone."

"What, why?" one of the guys demands.

"Because this kid saved my ass," Richard answers, looking back at him. "Or did you forget that Tim had that gun aimed at me first?"

"We remember," the big guy assures him.

Richard nods before turning his attention back to you. "Now, what brings you to Allentown? Not exactly smart for someone from your school to come here. Every punk in town is gonna want to kick your ass."

"I'm here to help a friend who's in some trouble," you answer honestly.

"I hope you don't mean he picked a fight with one of my guys, otherwise I can't exactly tell them not to kick your ass if you try something," Richard replies.

"Oh, no, no, it has nothing to do with that sort of thing," Kaya assures him.

"That right?" Richard asks. "In that case, I suppose I can do you a little favor. I'll tell the others not to touch you so long as you don't start causing any trouble."

He looks back to the three goons. "You got that?"

"Yeah, we got it," one of them says, not sounding too pleased.

Richard smirks. "Good. Spread the word. These two are off limits unless they do something stupid."

He looks back at you. "But you wouldn't do that, would you?"

"Of course not!" Kaya answers.

"Okay then, good luck with whatever it is you're doing," Richard says before turning and walking away.

"Thank you," you say to Richard as he walks away.

"Hey, don't worry about it," he calls back. "I owe you."

The three idiots give you and Kaya one last hateful look before walking off with their tails between their legs. No matter how much they'd clearly like to rip you apart, they seem to be too terrified of Richard to go through with it.

That should make things simpler.

"Well, that was quite generous of him," Kaya comments. "But for now we need to focus. We have only a few hours before Bruce will be killed."

The two of you take off running, following the compass as it leads you across town. You catch a lot of Allentown students watching you, but you're fortunately able to make it around without being attacked. It seems that word travels quickly around here.

Soon enough, you reach your destination, an old warehouse at the edge of town. The door has already been open, and one of Arthur's demons walks calmly over to you and Kaya, a hungry gleam in his eye as he looks between the two of you.

"Welcome, Spirit Detective," he says, bowing mockingly. "Lord Arthur has been expecting you."

He gestures towards the door. "Go ahead in, don't be shy."

As the demon rises, you knock him out cold with a strong punch to the face. Stepping over his unconscious body, you make your way towards the warehouse, Kaya following close behind you.

You can feel how nervous she is about all of this, although she is making an honest effort to hide it. Still, she's failing to mask the fear. You suppose she doesn't have much experience in fights like this.

Then again, neither do you.

You step into the warehouse, and the lights turn on as the door closes behind you and Kaya. You can see Bruce on the other side, bound by rope, and being watched by a large man sitting in a chair and flipping through a magazine.

The man glances up once the door shuts completely, tossing the magazine inside and getting up. He smiles, stretching a bit before walking across the warehouse to reach you.

He speaks in a gruff voice. "So, you finally came. Good, Arthur's had me waiting all week for this. You know how hard it is to be patient when there's a perfectly good soul right there waiting to be eaten?"

"Get out of here, man!" Bruce shouts to you. "Something is seriously not right about these people!"

The big man groans. "And that's another thing. Your little friend here wouldn't shut up all week! Do you have any idea how badly I wanted to rip out his throat?"

"Where's Arthur?" you demand.

"Oh, he's around," the big man promises. "You really think he wants to miss this? Nah, he's just making sure everything's ready."

"Sorry to keep you waiting," Arthur apologizes, dropping down from the upper level and walking over to stand beside Bruce.

He looks exactly the same as before, although he seems to be holding some kind of spear now. You get the feeling that if Arthur's using it, it's probably not ordinary.

"I'm glad you could make it, Detective," he tells you. "And I'm sure your friend is, too. A few more hours and I would have been forced to kill him."

Arthur smiles. "Now, I trust that you've been training hard this week, but I'd like to know for sure. Brug, kill him!"

"About time," the big man says, cracking his knuckles.

You wait for Brug to throw the first punch.

When he does, it's quite easy for you to duck beneath it and take a step forward. You throw an uppercut into his gut, stepping back and standing up as he hunches over and gasps in pain. You then hit him in the face with a strong left hook that knocks him off balance, and finish with a right-handed punch to the face that you're fairly sure breaks his nose.

Brug falls off his feet, hitting the ground hard. Though, rather than look angry or act like he's in any serious pain, he begins to laugh, wiping the blood from his face.

"I didn't know humans could hit so hard," he comments as he pushes himself back to his feet. "Good. I was worried this wouldn't be any fun at all."

Brug's body shakes, his skin darkens, his shirt rips as his chest expands. His hair grows as horns sprout from his skull and claws extend from his fingers.

"Be very careful!" Kaya warns. "This type of demon has incredibly hard skin. Even your Spirit Gun might not be enough to pierce it!"

Brug chuckles. "That's right, kid. You can't hurt me. But, let's see how long you can stay alive!"

The demon throws an uppercut aimed at your gut, which you avoid by jumping to the side. As you land, you spin and throw a kick at his ribs, which has absolutely no effect.

Brug turns towards you, swiping at your neck with a large, clawed hand.

You leap back, looking around for something sharp. Of course, there's the spear being held by Arthur, but you doubt your ability to reach that. There's a broken beer bottle not too far away. And, Brug's teeth are quite sharp. Perhaps you could knock one or two out with a good hit to the face and use it against him.

If we're going to attack his weak point, it must be a telling blow otherwise he's gonna guard that weak point for the rest of the fight. In addition, I doubt our brave hero is enough of a crackshot to try and snipe this demon's nostrils or eyes.

So were going to end up killing Arthur with his own spear I'm guessing while at the same time unknowingly helping him with his plan.
>>
>>40787338
You're really only seeing one way to handle this particular fight. His skin might be hard as a rock, but his insides are surely as vulnerable as anyone else's.

Brug comes at you again, swiping at you and growling in frustration as you jump over his hand and head, landing behind him and spinning towards him, immediately channeling your Spirit Energy into your pointer finger.

"HOLD STILL!" Brug yells, opening his mouth wide as he spins towards you.

A blue beam of light shoots from your fingertip, entering Brug's mouth and doing a real number on his insides. With a final gasp, the demon falls back, going still as he crashes to the ground.

Arthur chuckles as he walks over, seeming pleased that you killed his servant.

"Well done, Detective," he compliments. "You figured out that his kind do have their vulnerable spots."

He stands over Brug, raising his spear and stabbing it into the creature's chest. Incredibly, it actually manages to pierce Brug's skin, digging deep into his body. The spear begins to glow blood-red, and the glow quickly expands to Arthur, who sighs happily.

After a few seconds, the glow fades, and Arthur steps back, facing you once again.

"I can see that you've improved," he tells you. "Maybe you'll be able to give me a fight after all."

"What did you do?" you ask Arthur.

"I improved myself a bit," he answers with a grin. "You see, as you've probably guessed, this spear in my hands is no ordinary weapon. It's a mystical artifact known as the Spear of Siphoning, and it drains the strength of its victim, transferring it into its wielder."

He looks down at Brug, who you're certain is now dead. "I took the energy he had left to boost my own. But, I get the feeling draining you will increase my power far more, Detective."

Arthur chuckles. "I doubt you'll be sporting and hold still for me to stab you, so I hope you'll at least give me a good fight."

He puts his right foot back, pointing the spear at your gut. "Now, shall we begin?"

As Arthur makes his first attempt to stab you, you leap to the side, rushing forward and dropping into a summersault as he stabs at your neck. Ending up in a crouch behind your foe, you spring forward towards the nearby stairs leading to the upper level.

It takes Arthur a moment to realize what you're doing, but once he does, he swiftly gives chase.

You reach the stairs in seconds, and begin climbing immediately, narrowly avoiding being stabbed in the ankle. As you climb, however, he follows, and you have precious little room for evading when he pulls back his spear to stab you in the back.

As Arthur stabs forward, you drop to your belly, feeling some pain from colliding with the stairs, though much less pain than that spear would have causes you.

You kick back, catching Arthur in the chest and pushing him down the stairs, crashing painfully on his back and sending the spear flying from his hands.

It lands a few feet away from him. If you hurry, it is possible that you could reach it before him. Of course, the second he regains his senses, he's going to go for the spear, maybe you should take advantage of his distracted state and hit him while he's down.

Or, you can go upstairs and look for something to help you.

You leap down the stairs, running for the spear and grabbing it just a Arthur does the same.

With you standing and him on the ground, you're able to get him to release his hold of the spear by stamping on his wrist. Cursing in pain, Arthur lets go, and you pick the weapon up, tuning to face him and stabbing downward.

Arthur, already partway standing, is struck in the shoulder by the weapon, which begins to glow red. You feel a surge of energy just before Arthur hits you with an uppercut to the jaw, knocking you onto you back and causing you to release your hold on the spear.

Glaring at you hatefully, Arthur rips the spear from his shoulder rushing towards you with it as you leap back to your feet. You feel a little stronger now, and Arthur seems a bit weaker, but as long as he has that weapon, he's still a threat.

He stabs at you wildly, and barely misses you with each strike. The training you did with Kaya certainly seems to be paying off, and you're able to keep yourself alive, at least for the moment. But, sooner or later, he will get lucky. You need to do something before that happens.

You continue to evade his attacks, waiting for an opening to strike.

It's a dangerous game, as a single slipup could spell your death, or at the very least turn the tables of this match against you. You have an advantage on strength and speed at this moment, but that damned spear could easily change that in a matter of seconds.

After a particularly powerful stab that actually manages to cut the side of your shirt, you step in and slam your fist into Arthur's nose, sending him falling to his back. He quickly rolls backwards, getting into a crouch and wiping away blood.

"Fine, Detective, I was not expecting such a challenge from you, but it seems I have no choice but to take on my true form in order to kill you," he says, rising to his feet. "Watch closely, I don't do this often."

His body seems to shrink, his hair falling out and a pair of small stubby horns sprouting from his head. His skin shrivels until he takes on the appearance of a skeleton wearing a thin cloak of flesh. His eyes sink, his fingernails grow into claws, and he hunches over like an elderly man with back-problems.

"Now, Detective, are you ready to die?" Arthur asks in an scraggly voice, taking a step forward.

You rush forward, moving as quickly as you can and attacking as fast as possible. At the same instant, Arthur moves to the side and stabs forward with his spear.

Your punch only grazes the side of his cheek, while his stab grazes your shoulder, cutting it, but not allowing him to draw any energy from you. You reach out and grab the spear, kicking with your left leg at his side.

Arthur raises his right knee and stops your kick before shooting his right hand forward, his claws digging into your chest and cutting deep. You instinctively jump back, feeling a bit woozy from the pain and consequential blood loss.

Arthur grins, pulling back his bloody hand and gripping the spear tightly. "I've finally got you, Detective."

He steps forward and pulls back the spear, preparing to stab at your chest. However, he staggers forward a step as he's struck from behind by Kaya, who hits him over the head with her oar.

Removing his right hand from the spear, Arthur spins, punching Kaya in the gut and sending her flying across the room, crashing into the warehouse door.

She does not get back up.

We'll lose if we try fighting this guy with half measures. All or nothing.

You felt a surge of energy when you stabbed Arthur with his own spear. At first you thought it was only an increase in strength, but perhaps it's given you enough extra energy to fire one more Spirit Gun.

It's worth a try. You're wounded and bleeding, and you doubt Arthur will be distracted like this a second time. This will probably be your only chance, and you don't intend to waste it. So, you raise your right hand, pointing your index finger at Arthur and channeling what energy you have to your fingertip.

As Arthur turns back towards you, you unleash your energy, shooting a thing blue beam of it from your fingertip. The blast catches him full force, throwing him backwards and knocking him right off of his feet. As he crashes to the ground, the spear leaves his grip, landing at his side.

You know you won't reach it in time, however, and Arthur proves you right a moment later by grabbing it and pushing himself back to his feet. You can tell that he's seriously wounded now. You feel that, once again, you have the upper hand.

"This isn't over, Detective," he promises, his eyes flashing white.

A pair of Trainer Demons appear at his sides, and he directs them towards you, sending them rushing forward blindly.

He knows his creatures can't win, and that technique surely took some bit of energy from him. So what in the world can he be planning?

>A. Take your time with the creatures, make sure they won't be getting back up

>B. Knock the creatures away quickly, and attack Arthur before he can try something

You meet the demons in their charge, knocking the pair of weaklings aside with ease.

As they fall, you spot Arthur running across the room as quickly as he can, making his way towards the fallen Kaya. His desperate plan clicks in your mind immediately, and you know that he intends to use his spear to drain her.

Kaya might not be a fighter, but she does possess Spirit Energy, that, combined with her life force, could at least partly heal Arthur's injuries and restore some of his strength.

If that happens, you may very well lose this battle.

You rush after Arthur as fast as you possibly can, running faster than you thought yourself capable of doing in a desperate bid to save your fallen assistant. You rapidly gain on Arthur, but he reaches Kaya before you do.

He pulls back his spear, preparing to stab her, but you reach him just in time, slamming your fist into the back of his skull. Arthur's body goes limp, and the spear falls from his grip as his body begins to fall forward.

You catch the falling spear and grab Arthur by his shirt. He seems to be out cold, and his life seems to be in your hands.

We can talk to Kaya about the spear when she wakes up. We can always destroy it later.

Yes we are. A and D are the non-killy votes. B and C are fatalities.
>>
>>40790175
No, its being used on the demons I'm guessing since there is another option on draining him.

C already won and this thing is beyond dangerous if a guy like Arthur could easily find it, really doubt Spirit World could keep it safe.

You've made your decision.

Gripping the spear tightly, you spin around and throw Arthur's limp body to the ground behind you. You walk over, standing over your unconscious opponent. You stab downward, forcing the tip into his gut.

A red glow surrounds the spear, then spreads to you. You feel another rush of energy, and, to your surprise, you see your wounds closing. You still have some scars, but you have recovered from your injuries. You feel your strength return, and even improve a bit.

The glow fades, and Arthur stops breathing.

Once you're done, you snap the spear over your knee, breaking it and ensuring that it can never be used to harm anybody again. You're not positive that Spirit World will approve of this action, but you feel as though you've done the right thing.

You don't see the two demons Arthur summoned, but they aren't terrorizing Bruce or coming after you. Odds are they decided to flee while they still could. Smart move.

You cross the room and untie Bruce, who stares at you, completely slackjawed.

"What the hell just happened?" he asks. "What were those things? How did you fight them like that? What's that weird light you shot out of your finger? And what the hell did that spear do?"

"I'll explain later," you promise. "For now, we need to make sure Kaya's okay."

"Right, that old guy hit her pretty hard," Bruce agrees.

The two of you rush across the warehouse towards the fallen girl, who continues to lie still against the door. You can tell almost immediately that she's going to be fine, but it may take her a little while to wake up.

"Come on, man, we can carry her back to town," Bruce tells you. "I want to get out of this place. I've spent way too much time here."

"Sounds good," you tell Bruce.

The two of you pick up Kaya and make your way out of the warehouse, drawing quite a few stares as you make your way across town. You're honestly not sure how you make it without the police coming to find out why two teenage boys are carrying an unconscious girl around, but never look a gift horse in the mouth, right?

As the two of you make your way through the woods, Kaya finally begins to stir, opening her eyes and looking up at the two of you. A smile quickly appears on her face.

"Well, I guess we did it," she says weakly.

"Take it easy," you instruct.

"If you say so," Kaya replies, closing her eyes and resting as the two of you continue to carry her.

"You'd better make sure you explain everything to me," Bruce tells you sternly, his expression containing a level of seriousness that you aren't used to from him.

You feel as though he isn't going to let this go, so maybe you should tell him sooner rather than later.

Besides, it'll be nice having somebody to share your secrets with, right?

Please tell me John ended up burning Arthur's corpse and the broken spear so there would be no trace left
>>
>>40791079
Nope. Spirit World has people for that, though.
>>
>>40791060
So what would have happened if we ended up sparring Arthur and not breaking the spear?

Both would have been taken back to Spirit World.

Are you doing rolls or do you just have the options planned out?

I have options planned out.

No. Koenma isn't being that generous.
>>
>>40791181
could we have kept the spear. how difficult would it be to hold onto it.
>>
>>40791207
It would have come back to bite you in the ass at some point.
>>
>>40791270
how much shit would we have been in if we had used it secretly.
>>
>>40791280
Koenma was watching your fight. He would have seen you take it.

What's his opinion of how John resolved the situation with Arthur?
>>
>>40791321
>>40791321
He approves. He's a bit iffy on how you used the spear to kill Arthur, but he is glad you got rid of that weapon.
>>

Hey, it helps us be a better detective. Assuming it's a permanent boost
>>
>>40791344
It is. Of course, some of it went to healing you.
>>

So what would have happened if Richard came with us?
>>
>>40791394
He likely would have died.
>>
>>40791410
Not gone power mad if he grabbed the spear by some miracle?
>>
>>40791471
Pretty big if. And probably not, he likely would have panicked.
