You are Shane Morris, you are temporarily in the custody of the wizarding child services.

After a few close brushes at school, which maybe you shouldn't have told your parents about, your father threw a bit of a fit and refused to send you back to school. As it turns out, the wizarding world doesn't actually allow muggle parents any real control over their children.

Thus, you find yourself walking down the dark street with a woman who, by all muggle laws, is kidnapping you, and by all wizarding laws is your legal guardian who lets you live with you parents anyway.

As you've just discovered, she is also a member of the mysterious muggleborn rights group that has been occasionally contacting you over the past 3 or so months.

You have so many questions that they're competing for brain space, and you're having trouble thinking.

>Why are you guys in the part of the government that takes muggleborns away from their parents?
>What do you guys want from me?
>Other

"cause you know, given the general treatment of muggleborns by inbreds, I have to say you guys are some sadistic wankers."

Just the general feel I have for these guys right now

“What do you guys want from me?”

“At first we were just assuring you safety, but after that article in the Prophet, certain leaders of the Order want to use you as a figurehead for the cause.”

“You weren't gonna tell me?”

“I'm telling you now. We can't just reach out to you directly, especially in school. Oddly enough, in public, surrounded by muggles is one of the safest places for use to contact people. We are, technically, a terrorist organization according to the government.”

“How am I gonna be a figurehead? I'm just a kid.”

“Exactly, and if we can keep you in the public eye as you grow up, it'll endear you to the populace. Then someday we can use that.”

“So there's no chance for me to just quietly return to school and be normal for the next however many years?”

“You could try, but the Order isn't gonna make that easy for you. Here's good.” She stopped walking in a dark and secluded alley. “Take my hand, good and tight. This is not going to be comfortable, hold on.”

You do as she says, and a second later you are whisked away from the alley, and your body is put through a rubber tube that it ought not fit through. Finally you reach the other side. You are in a dark forest, in the distance, you see the unmistakeable glint of Hogwarts' lights at night.

She leads you through the forest, and out onto the road just in front of the castle gates. You walk together up to the castle door and into the entrance hall.

“You can find your way from here I'm sure.” She says. “Good evening, Mr. Morris it was a pleasure to meet you. I hope we never have to do this again.”

With that she walks back out of the castle, as the door closes she is jogging down the road back to the gate.

Well, you're back at Hogwarts. A few days late, but back. It sounds like everyone is eating right now, but you already ate.

You've had a long day, you decide to pack it in and deal with everyone else in the morning.

You head up to your room and quickly fall asleep on your bed. You are awoken in what feels like no time at all by someone excitedly shaking you.

“Shane, you're back!” Alex yells.

“Yes, I'm back, why are you shaking me?”

“Cause you're back!”

The other boys in your room all come and welcome you back. Even Lom gives you a conciliatory nod.

“What happened?” Alex asks.

“My dad freaked out any wouldn't let me come back to school. Someone from the government came and got me.”

“So are you here for good or are you still going home this summer?” Lom suddenly cuts in.

“What do you mean?” Alex asks.

“I mean that something like half of the muggleborns in the school will be put in ministry custody by the end of their time here. Their parents just can't take it, they always cause some kind of problem. The smart ones just stop telling their parents anything.”

“That's terrible!”

“I mean if you want to look at it that way.” Lom goes and lies down, shutting his bed curtains.

“So, did you get taken away from your parents?”

>No, and don't listen to Lom, he's being dumb.

Sadly it seems we're on our own here. The wizards apparently have the regular government in their pockets so our parents can't really help us.

“No, but it was close, I think Lom might be right for once. You probably shouldn't tell your parents too much about what happens here.”

“Okay, I mean I already told them some stuff about this year, but I can't even remember it all.”

“Yeah, its been busy.”

The next month is also busy as classes start up again, and you make up for almost a week of lost time. You have a lot of homework, but between it all you still have plenty of free time.

Study Herbology.
>>
You spend the next month studying Transfigurations, as well as attending the Herbology club you've been slightly neglecting since you joined. You manage to get up into some second year work, and Professor Varus even unlocks the second year greenhouse for you.

It's fun. Plain and simple in a way that things rarely are at Hogwarts.

However in early February that changes. One morning as you're all eating breakfast, the newly appointed Headmaster Ricimer ascends to the front of the hall looking nervous.

“As of yesterday evening,” He starts. “A fourth year Ravenclaw boy by the name of Coralis Jone has gone missing. If anyone has any information regarding his whereabouts please tell a staff member or one of our resident aurors at once. Thank you.” He again descends. But he leaves a sense of forboding over the whole hall.

You're led to believe that before your little escapade in the dungeons, disappearances were fairly common, but most people just brushed them off. Now, with the stakes in clear view, you can tell that it makes a few people's skin crawl.

As you look about the hall you lock eyes with Professor Morse. Her eyes say it all, 'You will not do anything.' A threat as much as a command.

>Looks like we're back on the case
>Nope. Not our problem this time. Keep your head down for once.

Then you might want to clarify the description.
Cuts the target object, as though the caster's wand had an incredibly sharp invisible edge.
This makes it seem like the wand itself becomes sharp or that the wand needs to be touching the target.
>>
Well, you figure that if that's the best that's being done about it, you may as well try to help.

You do think it would probably be smart to learn a few new tricks first.

You look around the hall and find Sam and Linus. They both nod, they're in.

Jenny's probably in no condition to do any skulduggery with a bum arm but she could probably help with some studying. Maybe she knows a few spells you don't?

Alex is, bless him, a little bit of a sheep, so he'll probably follow just because you're doing something.

>Where to start? You need a plan, you need some new tricks, and you could probably do some looking into who Coralis was.
>>
>>40769113
First things first. We need a safe hidden place. Interrogate the paintings to find a hidden room.
>>
>>40769134
I thought we already had one.

>>40769113
Lets ask some upper graders about what kind of guy this Coralis was, they would know. Let's not snoop around too much though, we don't want any unfriendly people to find out we're going to solve this missing person case as well. We already know some of the older girls, that would be a good place to start, just bringing it up while they're helping us with our studies or something.
>>
>>40769232
Or we could talk to someone very gossipy and has the dirt on everyone.
>>
So I've looked and there are the following spells useful to us and relatively easy to gain access to.
Offensive:
The Blasting Curse
Causes a Heavy wound via explosion
Gouging Curse
Causes 1 medium wound and can be used to dig.
Reductor Curse
turns a target or part of it to ash causes 1 heavy wound cannot be counterspelled

Defensive
Shielding Charm
Literally the only usable defensive spell.

Nope, still unpracticed. But, unlike last time you have as much time as you want to prepare, so just remember to practice it before you run off on your next adventure.
>>
>>40769297
Well then interrogating the paintings to find a hidden room sounds like a decent idea.
>>
>>40769113
PRACTICE THAT GOD DAMN PETRIFICUS TOTALUS
>>
>>40769425
In the hidden room? Who will be our target? Do we even need a target?

Practicing makes casting a spell second nature and therefore easier. No target required.
>>
>>40769491
Good I don't want to give any B.S. points to any other houses.
>>
Step one, you need another mirror room. This time maybe one that everyone and their mother doesn't know about.

Over the following days you start asking paintings about secret rooms. Most of them turn out to be utterly stupid, or in some cases completely mute. You guess making talking paintings must not be easy. Even the ones you find that can hold a conversation tend to suffer from some overblown personalities, something you guess you should have anticipated in a school where the acknowledged best painting to talk to is called Hamhead the Cogitator.

However, over a few days you slowly narrow down one room in particular, and through study and a bit of poking around you learn of a place called the Room of Reqirement, a room that is whatever it needs to be.

After a few more days you are told that one of the paintings has actually had a copy of itself appear inside, and was able to get into the room. You set off to find Gregory the Poorly Formed.

Gregory, as it happens, is a painting that due to some mix up, was enchanted before he was actually finished being painted, and as a result is blurry, half missing from the frame, and completely mad.

When you find him he is dashing through the paintings on the fourth floor and singing something in French.

More Coming
>>
When you finally catch him he has wandered into a painting of a bear and is hiding in a tree.

“Gregory?”

He burbles back at you.

“Uh, Gregory the Poorly Formed?”

He looks like something out of a rather silly nightmare. Shaped like a man, but when he moves its like he's just folding himself over like paper. He only has one proper eye, and the other is just a greenish white circle. His mouth is half defined, and half a blur, and his nose is smudged across his cheek. He only has one arm, and though you assume he has a left leg, it is always hidden behind something in the frame.

“Hiddle Hi, young gentile!” He says. “What need have you of Gregory the Purrly Permed?”

“I was wondering if you could tell me how to get into the Room of Requirement?”

“Adle Aye! The Rum of Reimbursement is delicious.”

“No, The Room of Requirement. The place where your other painting was.”

“Ah as well! Jupiter is a number, those tales, or was it stories, not ceilings, but something else. Back and forth, back and forth, but only back and third! You need it, the room, it is needed, in your mind.”

“Uh, what?”

“Riddles are fun. Goodbye.” And with that he stuck his thumb in his mouth and ate himself out of existance.

He said it was a riddle...
>>
>>40769846
so 5th floor pass by a certain part twice then return to the middle.
>>
>>40769846
>>40769846
God damn it Greg.

Jupiter's the fifth planet from the sun. Stories, not ceilings: fifth floor?
>>
>>40769846
My interpretation:
jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun. I think the ceilings and stories nonsense is referring to STOREYs as in 5 storeys high. Hopefully there isn't too much on the fifth storey.
>>
>>40770073
Up and down twice once we've reached fifth floor, then back to fourth and then third?
>>
>>40770113
Or forth means 4th, 4th painting twice on fifth floor.
>>
>>40770113
not the other guy but I thought that was referring to how one enters the room of requirement;
walking back and forth through a wall while desperately needing something
>>
>>40770152
>Back and forth, back and forth, but only back and third!
Since he mentions third, forth being fourth sounds reasonable, right? Does back mean turning your back on the painting or returning to somewhere?
>>
Okay, fifth floor, walking back and forth. You head up to the fifth floor and start walking back and forth. After three passes a small door opens in the wall next to you. It leads into a small stone room unfurnished except for a half finished painting of a farm hanging on the wall.

You figure this should be fine since the room should change to fit your needs. Though you might want to throw something over the painting in case Gregory decides to pop by for a visit.

In the mean time you managed to finish practicing the Full Body Binding Curse.

>What next?
>>
>>40770152
Also possible, maybe we should head to the fifth floor and find out what it looks like?
>>
>>40770280
Start investigating the guy who disappeared, also keep an eye out for more sketchy stuff. Maybe ask Lom about it.
>>
>>40770280
>What next?
Now we investigate. Start asking around about who Coralis Jone was. Who did he hang out with? Does Jenny know him? Was he a mud or pureblood?
>>
>>40770280
>>40770280
Find out more about the missing student, where he went missing etc. There's got to be some gossip going around. Ask the few older student we know and also Lom in an inconspicious manner.
>>
Now for Coralis Jone. You spend the next few days listening to the gossip mill. Coralis was, like most Ravenclaws, an accomplished student. Muggleborn, like you, he didn't have a lot of friends. He spent a lot of time in the dungeons doing potions work. He wanted to be the next Potions professor.

Eventually you get around to bringing up the subject around Lom. “Lom, I know we don't see eye to eye, but I am worried about you and whatever you're involved with.” You say one morning.

He goes quiet for a bit, which is somewhat uncharacteristic.

“I don't... do that stuff anymore. Really. After Jenny, I told them it was too much. My parents are really angry about it actually, it really hurts a family to not have their heir in the circle.” He picks up an old discarded shirt and starts twisting it nervously in his hands. “I know what you're trying to do. But I really don't know anything. Just let it be. This is how it is.”

If you're not involved please stay that way. No one our age should be.
>>
“I'm not doing anything. I'm glad you're not a part of this anymore, just remember other people have Jennys too.”

“Mm.” Its non committal. But not hot headed like he usually is. You think you probably understand him a bit better the more you talk with him. You guess that makes sense, but he's not just an asshole like you thought at first.

On the downside. Now if you ever want an inside man, you're gonna have to look somewhere else. And you're no closer to finding out what happened to Coralis.

>What now?
>>
>>40770802
No information on where he disappeared? If he spent a lot of time in the dungeons having a quick look down there wouldn't hurt.
>>
>>40770802
Check out his potion making spot.
>>
You decide to have a peek around the dungeons, even though it gives you the creeps after the weird lair last time. After finding out a general area where Coralis used to do potions work, you set about finding his room.

You descend to the dungeons and start peeking into every classroom you can find. Then you find one that doesn't open. A quick unlocking charm later and the door squeals open.

As your wand slowly lights the room you think 'Why do bad things always happen in the dungeons.'

You've found Coralis' potion room. And you're pretty sure you've found most of his blood, splattered over every available surface is all that remains of Coralis Jone.
