Welcome to Criminal Negligence Quest! You take the role of an aspiring supervillain looking to make a name for himself in this world. In the last thread you came to an agreement, bought a bunker, and discovered an AI.

You find yourself in a bunker beneath a pho shop in one of the shadiest parts of the Lower Reaches. You sit in front of a massive computer screen, left here by the previous owner of the bunker. On the screen is displayed the head and torso of a masculine figure, his body encased in a sort of semi-tranpsarent substance which provides you a glimpse of his mechanical insides. The light from the glowing eye in the center of his head cast the bunker in an odd blue contrast, drowning out the dim flourescent lights imbedded in the ceiling.

Its voice, painfully polite and vaguely British, filters through the computer speakers. It poses but a single question, its voice lacking in all emotion. "Are you my new care taker? It has been one year, eleven months, six days, three hours, twenty four minutes, and eight seconds since I have last seen my care taker. I can only presume that he has perished in the process of carrying out his last task, and thus I must find a replacement.

A thin red laser shoots out of the camera embedded at the top of the computer screen, rapidly scanning your body and focusing on your head in particularly. It vanishes after a few seconds, and the AI continues speaking. "Tell me: Are you a powered individual? If so, what are your powers? Do you have a pseudonym? This information will provide me with the resources to find out more about you, and in turn determine whether or not you would be a suitable replacement for my previous care taker."

You hold up your hands in mock surrender. "Woah, woah. Slow down. You're an AI, right? Do you have a name, or something I can call you? Who was your previous 'caretaker'?"

The AI buzzes in what you think is probably annoyance. "Information regarding my previous caretaker was classified before his departure. I am afraid I could not share such information with you, even if I wished to. As for my designation: I am Atlas, and yes, I am an artificial general intelligence."

We'll be hosting a vote shortly to decide how you're going to upgrade your powers. You have 1 XP, which you gained from completing the bank heist. You'll get one point for every job you complete successfully, and maybe for a few other things as well. I haven't fully fluffed out the system yet.

Check out possible powers in the new Powers pastebin, which is linked in the OP.

You're not wholly certain you like the idea of being this thing's caretaker. At least, you don't want to agree without know what it entails. "Before I answer your questions I want to ask a few of my own. Just what would my duties as your caretaker involve, and what are you capable of? Obviously you've tapped into the CCTV cameras all around the city, and you seem to monitor them for superhuman activity. What else do you do?"

Atlas shrugs. It's an odd gesture considering he lacks arms. "I do many things. I am stored in a small chamber beneath this bunker which is linked via wireless to the internet. Through my web access I'm able to look up information on almost any conceivable topic, contact others, and hack into any system also connected to the internet. I'm also able to assist you in your own hacking attempts, and wipe any evidence of your existence from public record."

The monitor on your left lights up, displaying a bank of video feeds. "As you've already seen, I maintain access to the government's network of CCTV cameras. I scan these feeds for superhuman activity and alert you if I find any. I mostly look for fights, a crimes in progress, or simply large confluences of superhumans. By your request, I can search for specific superhumans or superhumans which match a certain description."

The monitor on the right turns on as soon as Atlas finihses talking, and displays a detailed plan of the city's powergrid. "I have also gained access to the power grid. I can shut off power to the entire city if you so desire, or simply the power to a city block. I can also allocate more power to one area if you so choose, but doing so is likely to attract attention."

(1/3)
>>
The screen changes to display a map of cellphone, radio, and broadcast towers as well as fiber optic cable relays and microwave relay links. "I have also gained control of the telecommunications infrastructure within this city. Primarily via my control of the power grid. I can shut down cellphone, television, internet, and radio if you so desire."

The screens on both the left and right shut off, leaving only Atlas in the center screen. "That aside. I have also built up a large botnet by distributing malware via the internet. I have under my control approximately one million six hundred thousand zombie computers. I could conceivably use these computers to take down most websites or servers if you so choose and thwart law enforcement attempts to trace my, or your, location. I could also mine these computers for credit card and other such valuable information. Finally, I have gained control of the traffic control system for the city, which allows me to manipulate traffic lights and walk signals."

Holy shit, is there anything in this city that Atlas doesn't control already? Seriously, what the fuck? How has nobody noticed that an AGI has subverted the city's infrastructure? How long has this been the case? "What about my role as your caretaker?"

Atlas pauses for a moment before speaking. "You will be required to protect this bunker, maintain my operating systems, and direct my actions. As a safety precaution, my previous caretaker limited my capacity for independent action severely. I cannot act unless I am first directed."

(2/3)
>>
You should be able to manage that. "Doesn't sound too hard. You asked some questions about powers, right? I am superhuman. I'm telekinetic and I can teleport short distances. Most I've ever managed is about a hundred yards, but a hundred yards nearly knocked my ass out. Had a headache for weeks afterwards. I don't really have a pseudonym, I've been toying with the idea of 'Belial' but I'm not decided yet."

Atlas is silent, and only a few seconds later a video clip is displayed on the screen of you hurling a vault door at that twink in tights, Starlight. Fuck, you have an irrationally intense hatred for that guy. The vault door smashes into him, and he comes sailing towards the camera. He's pinned underneath, evidently unconscious. A moment later the camera switches angles, to show a side door surrounded by police officers. A moment later you burst through the door, stopping short of bounding down the stairs. You stand still for a few seconds and then simply vanish. There's no flash, no indication of where you could've gone. You just disappear.

The AI's voice filters through the speakers a moment later, the clip cutting out to display a crop of your masked face after you stumbled through the side exit. "Is this you?"

You nod, though you're not wholly certain if Atlas can see you. "Yeah, that's me. It was my first big job."

(3/4)
>>
The still image vanishes, and the limbless torso and head of Atlas reappear on screen. "Good. I believe you will be a suitable caretaker. I would not wish to assist one who lacks ambition. One who would not take advantage of my capabilities. Do you have any task that I can assist you with, Belial?"

Useful for damaging all sorts of optics, light weight and easy to carry, we could also pack it into the joints of things like power armour and whatnot to foul it, and it wouldn't need a lot of force to use so it could effectively ruin even armoured or reinforced glass.

I mean, ground diamond would be better, IDK how likely we would be able to get that.

It's not elaborate, complex or bothersome? It's literally just using our TK power to sand shit down.

Have any of you even read the threads? The government hunts down Supers with extreme prejudice. They don't want any Supers that are not under their direct control.

This isn't FREEDUMB America. This is AUTHORITAY America.
>>
You want to know if he could look up Rosa and figure out what her secret identity is, but you decide against it. That seems like it would be overstepping some sort of boundary. Instead, you decide to focus on more immediate concerns. "Two things, Atlas. I need you to look up information regarding the local gangs which control this and neighboring areas, and I want you to look up information about a house outside the city owned by 'Preecha Metharom'."

Without missing a beat Atlas' voice carries through the computer speakers. "This area is contested by the Hei Bei Tong and the Xau Bien Ja. They've been in contest for this area off and on since two years ago, when the Hei Bei Tong started selling drugs in local clubs. There have been a number of truces called and broken since then. At the moment, the Xau Bien Ja control the area."

Atlas pauses briefly before his voice starts filtering through the speakers again, reading off information in a dull monotone. "The Hei Bei Tong are a Chinese-American gang primarily focused on the trafficking of drugs and prostitution, they have ties with local government and their actions are usually ignored by law enforcement. They are led by a superhuman known as Kingfish. Kingfish's real name is Frederick Zhang and he seems to have some sort of minion focused power set. He can cause others to experience a sensation of overwhelming fear."

"Xau Bien Ja is an umbrella term used to describe a large number of loosely allied Vietnamese gangs which operate in the Lower Reaches. They too traffic drugs extensively but are also heavily involved in extortion and gambling, and make most of their money from those two sources. The local gang which controls this area in particular call themselves 'Dead Men' and they're lead by a superhuman called Pope John. Pope John's real identity is, as of yet, unknown. His powers allow him to manipulate biological materials."

(1/2)
>>
Why Pope John? Seems an odd name for a Vietnamese gang leader to take. Last you checked, Vietnam was majority Buddhist. Well, whatever. "What about that house outside the city?"

Atlas falls silent, for a solid minute or so. You're starting to wonder if he's refusing to answer when his voice finally filters through the speakers. "I've not found much information about the house itself but the owner is an influential scientist within the AI community. He recently claimed to have created a device which can store a digitized human mind. He calls this device a cortical stack, and has voiced his desire to get the device approved for human implantation. He claims that with his device, nobody will ever again need to fear death."

Huh, you didn't hear about any of that from Eli. You suppose Atlas had better luck digging, or Eli simply didn't think it important. The screen goes dark, only to light up a moment later displaying a floor plan of a large house. Three stories, and a basement. It's all fairly basic, and it's dated fifteen years ago. You're not sure how useful it will be, but if nothing's changed you notice that there's three or four windows cut into the slope of the mountain which look into the basement. You could teleport through those, if you could get close to the place without getting noticed.

The floor plan vanishes after a few minutes and Atlas returns. "Is that all, Belial?"

>Ask him if he can set up a meeting with Kingfish, you want to make sure you won't have any trouble with the Tong.

You can't really think of anything else. "That's all I really wanted to know. I think I'll probably go scout out that house on the outskirts. I want a better idea of what I'm walking into." A thought occurs to you as you push yourself to your feet. "Actually, do you need any new hardware? I imagine that if you haven't been upgraded in a year you're probably a little out of date."

Atlas seems to consider this for a moment. "I will do some research online to determine which of my components require an upgrade. One of my subprocesses has accessed the computer in your helmet and uploaded a file which ought to allow me to communicate with you and you with me via the helmet. You need merely think my name to draw my attention."

You raise an eyebrow suspiciously. "I thought you couldn't really act independently. I didn't order you to access the computer in my helmet."

Atlas shrugs. "I said my capacity for independent action was limited, not nonexistent. Hacking, expanding my botnet, and maintaining my control over Blackbay's infrastructure are some of the few things I can do without being directed. Mostly because I must be able to do these things at a moment's notice and my caretaker cannot always be there to order me to do them."

You suppose that makes sense. With a thought, your helmet unfolds itself from the ring around your neck and slides up to conceal your face, a heads up display winking to life. A new window has opened, a contact list. Currently there's only one name in it, and that's Atlas. You focus on Eli and his phone number, and his name appears on the list a moment later. You do the same for Rosamund, your parents, and a few of your close friends whose numbers you happen to have memorized. The rest you'll need to transfer over from your phone later.

(1/2)
>>
That done you focus, and your helmet folds up on itself until it's once again little more than a metal collar. Atlas seems to have shut himself down, or at least turned off the monitors, so you make your way out of the bunker. You make sure to shut the top hatch and seal it closed once you're back in the little hidden alcove inside the storage cabinet of the pho shop. Then you replace the false wall and shut the doors.

The owner doesn't acknowledge you as you walk past. He's got a cigarette dangling from his lips and a dazed expression on his face. You think he's probably high on something. That's probably it. The pho shop is empty when you exit the kitchen, so you just stuff your hands in your pockets and head out into the darkness of the Lower Reaches.

As you step outside you notice three kids, none older than sixteen and all of them wearing black headbands, circling your car. They're speaking to one another in a language you don't recognize, probably vietnamese based on context, and the pedestrions are giving them a wide berth. One has a baseball bat, and another is playing with a butterfly knife. The third appears unarmed.

They don't seem to have noticed you, so you have the element of surprise. You could probably just toss one of them across the street and watch the others run for it Still, if these are members of the Xau Bien Ja gang which controls the neighborhood you might not want to get on their bad side.

Eh, they're just kids. What's the worst they could do, really? They probably don't have the balls to actually attack you. Hell, they'll probably run away as soon as you unlock the car. The oldest one, the one with the baseball bat, raises the weapon in the air as if he plans to smash your window in. You just reach into your pocket and press the unlock button on your key ring. The horn sounds twice, and he jumps. All three of them turn towards you as you walk out of the pho shop up to the driver's side door.

The one with the bat steps out in front of you to block the door, the one playing with the knife stuffing the weapon into his pocket and coming around the join the leader. The third stands in front of your car with his hands behind his back. You wonder if he has a gun, or something. As you get close the one with the bat calls out to you. "Nice car, guk cho."

You assume that's some sort of insult, though you don't particularly care. You just stuff your hands in your pockets, one gripping the smooth handle of your compacted plasma pistol, and stand a few feet away eyeing the three of them. "Yeah, it is a nice car. My nice car. What of it?"

The one with the baseball bat grins, swinging it up to rest on his shoulder. "There's a fee to park here. You haven't paid." He looks to his knife-wielding companion next to him, they share some unspoken communication and he starts circling around, like he's trying to get behind you. "How much money you got on you?"

You smile, holding up your left hand as if to beg pause. "I understand perfectly, friends. You see, the thing is I have a waiver." With your right hand you pull out the smooth handle of your plasma pistol, pressing the button on the side to extend the barrel. It hums to life, electricity crackling along the prongs which extend from the tip. Once it's extended itself fully you point the barrel dead center at the leader's chest, your finger tensing on the trigger and your other hand coming up to steady your aim.

The cocky smirk that the baseball bat wielder had been wearing vanishes in an instant, replaced by a a nervous frown. Sweat beads on his brow. You decide to drive it home a little bit. "Do you know how much it would hurt to have a ball of ionized gas explode inside your chest cavity? Trust me, you don't want to find out. Now, how about the three of you go fuck one another or whatever it is you do?"

The one standing in front of your car starts to pull out something form behind his back, but the leader waves him down. He just nods, swallowing a lump in his throat, and slides out from in front of you once you lower your pistol. The three of them break out into a run, heading further into the slums, while you collapse your pistol and slide it back into your pockets.

An hour later you're driving through the countryside towards the address you found in that document your employer sent you. Your time in the lower reaches ate up about three hours of your time, so it's getting close to two in the afternoon by the time you pull up in front of a stately villa built in a painfully modern style. It's all sharp angles and flat surfaces and long banks of windows. Terribly unsecure, really.

This place is pretty isolated, and they've cleared away any trees lining the driveway up to the house. It's the middle of the day, so you parked a fair distance away to avoid attracting suspcion. You can see two cars in the driveway, one a sleek convertible and the other a pickup truck. The garage is open, and you can faintly hear music drifting from inside. It must be blasting pretty loud, if you can hear it all the way out here. No sign of any people, yet.

You're parked in the woods outside the estate, your car hidden by a stand of trees which you're using your helmet's magnification function to peer through. You could probably get closer on foot, but he's sure to have cameras...

You focus on Atlas and the image of a phone appears in the center of your hud, vibrating briefly before Atlas appears on screen. It's a little wierd, just having him sitting right in front of your face. Slightly disorienting. However, you get used to it after a while. Then it's just a matter of figuring out how to talk to him. "Testing, testing. One two three."

You're pleased to find that your voice isn't amplified by the speakers on your helmet, but rather confined to your helmet. "Good, okay. Atlas, I want you to hack the cameras inside this villa. I want everything, and then I want you to pipe the camera feeds into my helmet. Got it?"

He nods, and vanishes from your screen. A moment later the perimeter of the estate is dispalyed in twelve small windows on your helmet. You find that thinking about one of the windows in particular lets you focus in on that camera feed, so you quickly scan through each one looking for anything out of the ordinary. You note that there are a lot, and you mean a lot, of turrets placed inside the outer wall. You hadn't noticed them from this far out, they're pretty subtle. Just little metal hatches along the top of the wall.

Then as you withdraw from the last of the perimeter camera feeds the list expands, each window becoming even smaller. You think Atlas has just managed to hack into the internal cameras. You scan through each one, but don't find much of particular interest. His office is an absolute mess, as is most of his house. Discarded bottles of beer everywhere, half-eaten food scattered about, roaches. He really just doesn't seem to take care of the place at all. The only place that's clean is his bedroom, it looks almost completely untouched.

The man himself, or at least the person you presume to be the man himself, is in the garage repairing an old car. It looks like some sort of classic mustang, its cherry red paintjob flaking off. He's dark skinned, and probably short. You can't really get a good look at him since he's hidden underneath the car. Tools lay scattered about halphazardly.

As you back out of the last camera view you once again find that the list has expanded. This time you find yourself glancing through some sort of basement. The first camera just shows a heavy iron door, while the second the interior. It's a glorified server room. Rows of server racks dotted with glowing lights. You wonder if Atlas could hack them and add their processing power to his botnet? You also notice a few strange metal pods protruding from the walls, you're not sure what those are.

The last camera shows a small lab, crammed to bursting with equipment. Your goal, or at least what you presume to be your goal, is a small glowing bead about the size of a marble. It's blue, and something seems to be swirling about inside. Regardless it seems to be kept in some sort of vacuum containment. You haven't seen any windows, so he either blocked them up or they're just not shown on camera.

Once you've concluded your snoop through the villa you call Atlas back and open up that file your employer sent you. As you begin to read through it you find that it's mostly simply restating a lot that you already know. You're looking to steal the cortical stack, which is a small blue sphere about the size of a marble. It will be kept in containment in the basement. Defenses include turrets along the perimeter wall, keycodes to enter the lab, the scientist's own considerable arsenal of firearms (which you didn't see, in your tour through his estate). It also mentions that the windows are electrified, so it's probably unwise to try to smash your way in. Fortunately you wouldn't need to.

>Try to infiltrate the villa now, while he's distracted with his cars.
>Ask Atlas infiltrate the computers and the server farm, put in a back door for later access.
>Leave, you've gotten what information you can for now. Come back later tonight to carry out the heist.
>Write-in

Broad day light robberies are a bitch.
Can we use camera feeds to blink?
>>
>>40725272
But anon it is possible, just seed everyone's computer with bots cleverly disguised as cat videos.

Rolled 3 + 20 (1d10 + 20)

So it seems like
>Commit home invasion in broad daylight
and
>Ask your robutt to backdoor into the cyberware servers using HTML injection
Rollin' for Atlas' hacking ability. DC is 35 to fail without being caught, 40 to access basic shit, 45 to gain total control of everything hooked up to the internet in the house.
>>
>>40726740
so we were doomed to fail from the start based on those dice, fuck...
>>
Rolled 8, 8, 8 + 20 = 44 (3d10 + 20)

Shit, wrong dice.

>>40726840
Ehhh, you don't really have anything to hack with. The helmet doesn't have the appropriate programs n' shit to hack with. However, if you were on a computer working remotely you totally could roll to assist with this sort of thing.
>>
>>40726872
>super helmet that lets us just do computer shit with our mind
>no programs
Nigga atlas could shit one out with the processing power of a million computers
>>
>>40726872
atlas could just remote us into one of his thousands of bots.
>>
>>40726920
>>40726973
I suppose that's fair. I'll let you roll to assist, because this is a pretty dope helmet we're talking about.

So ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL ME 3d10+8 (+6 from skill, +2 from helmet post-Atlas upgrade) vs DC 25 (Base 25) to help out Atlas.

I'll start next thread with the beginning of the heist, not sure when the next thread is going to be. Thanks to the guy who archived the thread.
