Last time, on Feral Necromancer Quest: You advanced your Diplomacy to unseen heights. By critfailing like every check you had to take. The awakening of Golems stopped a dwarven coup, allowing you to trade with them, but not before you had to fight a duel with the leader of the attackers. Knowing your strengths he forbade the use of magic for the combat, and so you just barely beat him. After the fight you slept and healed. You awoke and did some business with dwarves, and arranged for the transportation of the trade goods with the golems. As you returned to your home you begun preparing for a feast. The conversation with Bathory on the planning of the feast was pleasantly interrupted by her confession of regained love. You have been preparing your halls for the feast together for roughly a week now. The feast should commence as soon as all invited parties arrive, within a day or two. This is where Feral Necromancer Quest XVII concluded.

The Cast

Vlad Tepish: You, a necromancer, who after being exiled from his tribe, found a ruin belonging to a dead elven necromancer. Armed with ancient knowledge and magic you are on a quest for immortality (among other things)

Bathory: Your lover. Trying to bring her back to life was what lead to your exile in the first place. The process of preserving her spirit was, unbeknownst to you, excruciating, and she hated you for a long time. You have given her an immortal alchemical body. You have repaired your relationship with her, and you love each other dearly.

Lathrien: Your erstwhile hostage, now a friend and an apprentice, Lathrien is an elf and becoming quite a capable Necromancer and Shaman.

Melandie: Elven huntress and berserker. She joined up with your party on her own volition. She recently was left in charge of your ruin and ended up slaughtering a number of drow. She is uncertain as to how she feels about this.

Housekeeping:

Still not home, so I still cannot get into my twitter. Don't forget your password abroad, guys.

There were some questions in the last thread after I went to sleep. You don't have a lot of an idea what will happen if/when you go vampire. Any comparisons I've made to other media before were purely to suggest a scale, rather than to speak of specifics. I also don't know shit about WoD, so I MIGHT have overstated the power-spike you'd get. It's significant, but you won't get reality-altering powers.

There are plenty of other races in the setting, you'll have to explore and research to find them.

I just slapped this map together in a few hours. I'll be improving it over the week. 1 hex= 1 day of travel, provided everything goes right. Thus, a hex of water does not mean there is as much water as there is forest in a hex of forest, but only that it would take a day to walk around it. This is the world as you know it, but not the whole world, indeed the Temple of Pern would be out of bounds of this map, to the West. I've contradicted myself about the geography about a million times since Quest 1, so this is the canon layout of the nearby area.

You have started trading gold for goods. No currency is available, but I will start keeping a track of gold in weight, at least.

Economy: You have 5kg of gold. I will go over how much certain improvements to the ruin might cost.

Your minions: 5 Drow Necromancer Skeletons, 1 Orc Shaman Skeleton, 48 units of non-magical undead.

Your Holdings: A Human Village, An Elven Ruin, A well-hidden and fortified cave.

Diplomacy: Human Tribes (Unfriendly); Dwarves (Suspicious, Open Trade); Elves (Agreeable, Open Trade), Gnolls (Friendly), Golems (ACCEPTABLE), Drow (Enemies)

Your Goals: Survive the Winter, Hold a Feast, Succeed at Diplomacy, Achieve Immortality

Immortality Quests Active: Vampirism- Go to the Temple of Pern

It has been a long time since times have been this good. You are on good terms with Bathory, trade is going on well between you and several other tribes, and there is a feast coming. You have a roof over your head and a fire burning in your hall at all times, so even the winter cannot dull your comfort. It will not last, of course. It never does. That only makes it more important to enjoy the little things. There is a bit of a lull in the action. Your undead have finished the construction in the nearby village, before anyone could freeze to death, though just barely- the frost is biting outside just now. By curious coincidence the Winter Solstice is going to roughly coincide with the feast. The stone has been coming in regularly. The cost so far is negligible, but you will need to figure out for how much stone you will be trading for, and for that you need to figure out what kind of a construction you will be planning for.

>Buy enough stone for a castle fortress. It will deplete all of your stock of gold, but it will be the most impressive and defensible construction you could build.
>Buy enough gold for a tower. You are a wizard. According to Bathory's fiction books wizards are supposed to have towers. It will cost 3kg of gold to build such a construction, but it will be very well defensible and there might be advantages related to magic in it.
>Buy enough stone to fully renovate the ruin. The layout is largely that of a grand temple at the moment. It would not be extremely defensible, but your defences are solid for now. It would be very impressive indeed however, and relatively cheap, at 1kg of gold.
>Build down. Create dungeons and tunnels. It will cost quite a bit to keep them stable and take longer than any other to build, but it will obfuscate your expansion and be impenetrable but for siege weapons, 3kg

not because its cheep but because its the best we can always build a ridiculous wall around our entire forest undead labor is best labor

You should at the least rennovate the ruin. The building is more impressive than any you have seen, aside perhaps from the dwarven runeforge, and bringing it back to its former state is sure to impress other tribes, and you might be able to sell the elves the story of you doing it in respect for the craftsmanship of their ancients. After doing that you will keep trading for a tower. It is a long ways off, and you will likely have to brush up your construction techniques, but it might come in very handy.

Business out of the way, and none of the guests here yet you have some time to spare. You could just kick back and relax, everything is set for the feast, but there are some other things you should maybe be doing.

>No, you haven't had a break in forever. Hang out with your buddies until any of your guests show up.

Well, due to travelling and shit I've not been able to get on my twitter, and am also starting the quest like 4 hours earlier than usual. I can keep going for like 8 hours and reduce the number of votes needed for an option to be picked. I'm finishing it one way or another.

Research. It is better than resting in any case. You are quite certain there is nothing you could learn from the books here about diplomacy. Ironic, considering your track record, but you seem to have surpassed most of the writers here in the art, and those that you haven't rely too much on customs dead for centuries.

Pern, however, now that you should learn about. Ancient gods have been trying to mess with your shit for nearly a year now, and you doubt that this one is going to be any nicer than those you've met before. At least not to you.

12, failure.

The dead elf necromancer you inherited this ruin from must not have been a fan of religion either. It is never easy to find any information on the gods in the library, regardless of how extensive it is in other matters. You end up spending hour after hour, reading books on ancient elven history. The tales there, crazier than fiction indeed. Thousands of warriors dying on a battlefield, magics to shake mountains (although, with preparation, you suppose you could do that too), cities so large that it is a miracle someone has not come across the ruins of one by sheer chance.

Well, someone has now, even if this ruin was the center of a relatively tiny one, as you understand, only about a thousand elves lived here, back when that was a small number.

None of this helps you learn more of Pern, however. Perhaps he has always been a human god, and of little interest to the elves. Perhaps a book on him is somewhere in the cooking section. It has happened before, your predecessor does not seem to have been the most organized of people.

You are reading a passage about a particularly violent war, as Lathrien enters the library.

'Vlad Tepish, the golem delegation has arrived,'
'I see, have you seen to their needs?'
'They say that they need to, er, acquire formal invitation.'
'I see,'

You had prepared to remove the desecration spell on moments notice. You do so, and feel at the same time uplifted and warm, but also weaker magically and more vulnerable.

You go out to meet your first guests.

'Greetings to my abode, golems, please, follow me to your quarters.'
'GREETING ACKNOWLEDGED. GREETINGS VLAD TEPISH.'

There are thirteen golems in all, if you recall correctly that is all of them. You find yourself surprised to recognize the two that have been bringing stone to you lately. They seem identical, but only until you get to know them. Like dogs, you suppose.

>Try to smalltalk the golems

'So, how's the weather been treating you?' You just have to know how this will turn out.
'IT IS COLDER THAN THE FREEZING TEMPERATURE OF WATER, YET WELL WITHIN OPERATIONAL PARAMETERS OF MY KIND'
'How did you find the walk here?'
'THE TWO TRADERS ARE FULLY INFORMED AS TO THE LOCATION OF YOUR LAIR'
'I do not have lair, I have a ruin.'
'YOU ARE A NECROMANCER. NECROMANCERS HAVE LAIRS'
'So, what do you remember about before you awoke?'
'WE KEPT ORDER FOR THE DWARVEN KINGDOM. THE DWARVEN KINGDOM IS NOT PRESENT IN THE MOUNTAIN CURRENTLY. REASONING PROTOCOLS ENGAGED INDEFINITELY.'
'You seem to care much about order. Would it be any trouble for you to try to aid me in keeping order here?'
'WE ARE ALWAYS ENGAGED IN KEEPING ORDER.'

It is a strange conversation. No matter which golem you address, only the closest one of them responds to you. You are unsure if they are linked in some way, or if it is a simple custom of some sort.

You lead them to the great hall. It must have been the temple proper in days gone by, but now you have re-furnished it as a dining hall. On the tables, you have readied:

>Distilled berry alcohol. It will deplete your stash of nutrient-rich berries, but alcohol makes diplomacy easier. It was elementary to prepare with your skill in alchemy
>A decent feast, but nothing too extravagant. You need to last the rest of the winter, after all.
>A grand feast, you can always hunt more, you have to show the dignitaries your power.
>A meager offering. The food is only for talking over, and you have to be prepared for a long winter.
>Decorated in elven style, to recognize the history of this place
>Decorated in human style, to recognize your background.
>Decorated with skull motifs and tomes of lore, to recognize who's in charge here.

The hall looks great, if you say so yourself. Mostly you have kept to the elven custom of decoration, with evergreen branches and simple wooden carvings of animals, but you have not neglected your own heritage. You doubt many of the human dignitaries would even recognize the meaning of the layout of the room and the arrangement of the food, but you know it is a reminder of a lost culture. Not too long ago your people did not have culture beyond survival, after all. The effect is great, good enough to hide the fact that your feast is only somewhat larger than a decent meal per person. In the dead of winter even such a thing is extravagant beyond reason at this point in history, but you know that there were feasts in days gone by that would put this one to shame.

Your secret weapon is, of course, the alchemical concoction known as alcohol. The elves sometimes partake of it in the form of eating fermented grapes, but to the others the effect it will have on them will feel as if magic in itself.

'THE ARRANGEMENT IS PLEASANT. ELVEN WITH HUMAN ELEMENTS.'
'I am surprised you care, no offence.'
'ORDER IN ALL THINGS IS IMPORTANT. AESTHETICS ARE NOT AN EXCEPTION.'
'I am pleased you like it.'

You have a book to finish, and you are certain that the golems do not need any entertainment and are happy to just wait. After all, they have waited for a millennium before. And it was their idea too. You doubt they can even eat. You have set some very heavy stone chairs for them, just in case they can.

In truth, it does not take long until Lathrien arrives again. An hour, perhaps less.

'Vlad Tepish, you should come, quickly, please.'
'Have we more guests?'
'Yes, but...'
'Just a second, I will finish this chapter,'
'Vlad Tepish, the humans have arrived at the same time as gnolls. They were not fighting outright, but...'
'Shit.'

You rush back to the human village, to meet with your new guests.

'Scavangers! Grave-robbers!' A human is shouting at Spot.
'Me bad? You murder my mates, all time, when see, murder if not murder back. Bark! Bark!' Spot replies.

Diplomacy 22! Success! Huh, I guess that does happen.

'Spot, Heel!' you say. Back in his lands this might not have worked, but here, in your domain he obliges, if begrudgingly.
'I demand that this monster be executed for his....' the human starts
'Silence! You are my guest. So is Spot. There will be no violence, no conflict between my guests.'
'You... You....' The human stammers. Several of your undead appear from behind the trees. He falls quiet.
'Good. Now, welcome to my humble abode, Spot, elder.'
'Greetings, Vlad Tepish,' the ancient man you met a long while ago says.
'Hi, boss,' Spot says.

There is quite the gathering here. You had sent invitations to just about everyone, but you had hardly expected for many to take the trek. It is dangerous in the winter, and there is a very real risk of death among the old and the infirm. There are ten gnolls and some twenty humans in the crowd. Most of the humans are young and healthy, but there is a mother with her children and, of course, the elder himself among them.

You approach the ruin and this time Bathory is waiting for you at the entrance, being the perfect housewife. She smiles and offers refreshments to everyone. Much of the tension dissipates after they have had a little to eat and a little to drink.

You lead them to the main hall, and this time you hear the gasps of amazement and cries of wonder you were hoping for from your guests.

'Please, sit, eat. Be mindful of the drink. A little will put your mind at ease, a lot might do more harm than good,' Bathory says.
'Indeed, eat, drink, rest. Any real talks will not begin until tomorrow, when everyone is here.'

Fast forward to the next party arriving.

You meet the next arrivals by sheer accident. You are running low on firewood, so you've went outside to gather some branches, when you hear in a loud and merry voice:

'An' I say, 'old on a minute! Bears dinnae travel in packs!' you hear a dwarven voice followed by laughter.
'That is most curious, elder.' an elf says
'Most curious? I near shat my pants, but I stands up straight and tells to the bear, I tells him, well, just ask 'im how 'es doing. And then Karhu just bloody turns into a human and tells me he's doin' just fine. Also, no need for formalities, call me Stonehammer.'
'Of course, elder Stonehammer.'
'Yer no fun, are ye?'
'I hope I am not interrupting.' you say to the rest of your guests.

The night is falling as they arrive. You see six dwarves, a dozen elves and five bears walking towards you. Having recognized your voice some of the dwarves fall quiet. The elven elder speaks up:

'Vlad Tepish! A pleasure to finally be here. Might we come inside?'
'Of course. Every one of you is kindly invited.'
A bear turns back into a man.
'I hope you do not mind if my brethren do not take human form until they're inside? It is mighty cold out here.'
'Of course not.'
'Greetin's Vlad Tepish, we've come to your feast, now where is it?' the dwarf elder says.
'Follow me, lucky you caught me, just this way. Everyone else is here already.'

'Elder Stonehammer, it pleases me you are here.'
'Aye, a feast in dead middle of the winter, this I just had to see.'
'I hope you have fun. How have things been back at the forge?'
'Ah, ya know, this an' that. More work than there's ever been, and really not much changes. At least the drow's been keeping their distance.'
'That is good to hear. What of...'
'Bah, youngsters, blaggards and fools. Yer good in my book.'
'Might you perhaps try to convince some of your people of my goodness?'
'There's one thing you got to know about dwarves. You don't convince them to do nothing. They'll make up their minds and then it's damn tough to change 'em. I'm here ain't I, a good party will sure change their opinion on you.'
'I don't think Vlad's half bad meself either. If he's got meat in the pantry, that is.' A dwarven woman says. It is true that it is somewhat difficult to tell the genders apart, but not so difficult as some of the ancient elven tomes might suggest. There is certainly no beard.
'Well, I am pleased about any friend among the dwarves.'
'Long as you got the meat I said!'

The rest of the walk you chat with the dwarves about the conditions on the trail, the weather, trade and whatnot. It is probably the most entertaining walk back to the ruin you've had. You suddenly feel it might be a very good idea to feed the dwarves a lot of alcohol.

Just realised everyone speaks the same language. Let's say, dwarves found an ancient ruin and Karhu's been around the world, so this conversation is happening in elven. Don't ask me how Stonehammer is managing to speak elven with a heavy dwarven accent. It's a racial feat.

'Elder, always a pleasure.'
'Vlad Tepish, I thank the spirits each night that you decided to try diplomacy with my people, even after.... misunderstandings.'
'Do not worry about it, elder. It is my wish to bring peacable cooperation among our tribes. I get my wishes.'
'Nonetheless, I thank you.'
'I thank you, I am not certain there could be peace without your mediation.'
'So, how is Lathrien and Melandie doing?'
'Oh, so you haven't heard?'
'What? Are they okay?'
'What? Oh no, of course, yes they are fine. More than fine, in fact. I dread the day I am going to have to deal with an elven child even now.'
'Really? I never thought Lathrien would build up the courage.'
You let him think it over.
'Ah, of course. He did not. Well, Melandie also always gets her wishes.'

There is a short period of semi-awkward silence, and you turn to all of the elders.

'I have been thinking, some of the books in the library here, they contain information on construction.'
'Aye? What've you on your mind?'
'Well, I was thinking, perhaps we should build roads between our settlements.'
'Yea? There's little more than twenty dwarves, we need every worker.'

'Just in a moment, there is something I've been meaning to tell Karhu for a while now.'
Karhu begins the process of turning back into a human. You are faster, and with a rather fascinating sensation you turn into a bear. You immediately feel warmer. Not to mention, stronger, faster, tougher. Your sense of smell improves.

Karhu stands on his back feet. A new instinct sets in and you almost attack him, just on this new feeling. But, you have resisted terrible magics. Resisting animal instinct comes to you naturally. You realise that there is a hug incoming. You hug Karhu with such strength that would kill any human. It feels like a strong pat on the back to you. You cannot speak, but you understand that there is pride and curiosity in the old bear.

You needed shapeshifting for the Vampire immortality option. Y'know the whole turning into bats and giant dogs thing. Can't see why not bears.

19! Near-legendary feast

You turn back into a human. So do the rest of the bears. You had not seen them standing up, only from a mount. These are all giant men, standing six foot four and taller. They all radiate strength and warmth.

You hear a great shout from within the hall, as you approach it. You nearly panic, but as you approach you realize it is the beginning of a particularly rowdy song.

You enter the hall and cannot recognize it for all the merry hustle. At first, it seems the gnolls and humans were keeping their distance, but when the berry drink kept flowing and there was no aggression among either side, they realise they have a common language, and then the stories begin. Old emnities are washed away in a river of booze and song.

You feel almost swept away in the merriment. You keep your calm, even as dwarves, elves and werebears join in with the festivities, catching up with the humans and the gnolls.

Bathory is calmly explaining to a middle-aged man the importance of the table arrangement. He seems appreciative, if solemn, but then a woman slaps him on the ass, he turns red, but soon enough joins the festivities.

You take a drink. You see Bathory from across the room.

You dance.

After a while, there is so much noise of happy conversation that you can barely speak loud enough to be heard. You feel quite drunk by the time a dwarf shouts

'Speech! Speech from our host!'
'Speech!' the room echoes.

!Great Party! The word is spreading in the region that you are not in fact a horrid asshole. Any new 'good' races you encounter from now on will start at Neutral, rather than unfriendly.

23! Great Success! Vlad Tepish: Good for parties, threats and pre-battle speeches. Do not use your Vlad Tepish for traditional Diplomacy, trade, or in other formal settings. Terms and Conditions apply.

'Dear friends, allies, former tribesmen! This night, this beautiful night of winter solstice, we are gathered in warmth, among friends, family and loved ones. You can see, that in cold, darkness and the dead of winter, warmth, happiness and comfort can be found. I beseech you remember this come morning. I ask of you to remember the great time we had here. I ask that you remember the man, the dwarf, the gnoll, or even... Karhu, get out of bear form! Or even the bear standing next to you. And remember. We can be friends. We can live together. On this night when winter turns to summer, when darkness turns to light and warmth, I hope we can turn from enemies to friends. From suspicion to trust. The road here has been rocky, true. But here we are. And it is a hell of a party, is it not?'

There is a moment of silence.

You see a tear go down a woman's face.

Bathory gives you the thumbs up.

'Gods damn well it's a bloody fine party!' the dwarven woman shouts and the hall erupts in cheers.

'Now, let us keep drinking this nectar of the gods 'till we cannot stand!' the human elder shouts, his voice breaking mid-sentence.

13! Passable!

Your head starts spinning. Perhaps you should not have triple-distilled the concoction.

You wake up in the morning and you remember the dwarven woman making out with a werebear so large she could not reach him, even as he was sitting down on the ground. You seem to recall a song, entirely about gold going on for at least twenty minutes. Was there a fight between a werebear and three dwarves sitting on each other's shoulders? Did the elven elder really recite the dirtiest poem you had ever heard in ancient Elven? All you know for sure is that you awake in Bathory's arms. You seem to be in the kitchen. You are surprised at how warm and soft the stone seems to be, until you realise you're sleeping on Karhu. Er, in his bear form that is.

You call for the demon dog homunculus and the elven owl homunculus. You tell them to check the perimeter for anything afoot. Heh, afoot.

Hell, but you are still drunk.

You check the ruin. Everyone seems to be accounted for. You certainly cannot guarantee that half-elves are not going to return to this world from some of what you see, but everyone is accounted for. And asleep.

You silently walk out and pick up some firewood. You light the oven.

'I AM GOING TO PERFORM DARK MAGICS NOW!' you shout, as you crack a dozen eggs and a full slab of smoked deer fat on the oven. You rummage around for the basic alchemical ingredients needed for the mixture.

This is going to be fucking... Well it is going to be amazing and terrifyingly horrible at the same time.

'First come first served, and nothing left for those who sleep in!'

With that, very zombie-like peoples of all races shuffle in to the kitchen. There is very little talking going on. They all certainly seem to both appreciate the curative powers of the breakfast mixture, and be disgusted by its composition at the same time.

'So, laddie. I reckon the Tepish-Dwarven relations just im-fucking-proved dramatically.'

You are about to respond, when the Orc Demonologist Dog homunculus enters the kitchen. He is holding in his jaws a drow corpse, by the neck. He drops it at you feet.

'Woof.'

'The caves where there's burnt dead things. Dark elves found and entrance.'

This... could actually be troublesome. If you don't deal with it they could kill you in your sleep. Hell, they might have killed you in your sleep, if the timing had been even a little better on their part.

'How many?'

'Didn't count. Grabbed one, shook him a lot. Love this body, by the way.' he growls with pleasure. Ick, am I right?

'Look, many or few.'

'Yeah, quite a lot. Didn't see me though. Or maybe they did and were fucking terrified.'

'Ladies and gentlemen, if any of you would like to join me in killing some drow, it would be much appreciated,'

The dwarves say 'aye' before you're done speaking. A couple of the larger humans join in too. Karhu comes with you, but the other werebears say that they're neutral. The elven elder comes with you, along with Lathrien and Melandie. The gnolls start arguing about what they'll get in return, but half of them agree to come once Spot punches and kicks them a little. The golems are too large to fit through the manhole.

'Bathory, would you please make sure none of them attack the rest of our guests?'
'Love, I am not made out of sugar. I can fight, very fine.'
'Please, I am far from confident that these people can defend themselves.'
'What are you not confident that golems can protect them?'
'There is only thirteen of them, and I am not so sure they are all that smart.'
'Okay, Vlad. Do not die. I just now decided to take you back and I like it like so.'
'Of course, love.'

You descend into the depths of the ruin. You cannot see anything.

'Elder, could we get a light?' You turn to the elf elder.

An illusory flame flickers into existence.

Shit.

That's a lot of fucking drow. Even with all of the help, you are severely outnumbered. Hells, there must be more than a hundred of them. If you had not sent the undead in first they would already be tearing into your allies.

Alright, kids, daddy made a mistake, let us try to get past it.

20 MDetect, 18 combat, 16 allies. Your favour.

That is quite a lot of magic. Luckily for you, from your experience you know that while drow have a great propensity for necromancy few of them are very good at it. Perhaps it is the cut-throat nature of their society, perhaps it is biological, or perhaps their dark god will give them nothing more. Nonetheless, you sense no fewer than twenty low-level magic casters among them and start going to town on them with your magic. As you do so, your allies charge blindly.

Well, the dwarves charge blindly, the others follow them in order to not break formation. They get locked into a pitched battle. None of them fall, but they make little attrition happen, and what they do, the drow babby necromancers bring back to life.

>Kill the necromancers. That is the fastest way to make the fight even.

20! Great success.

You do not even need to kill them yourself. They are casting a lot of spells and they need a lot of stamina for it. You throw out curse after curse on them, making sure to focus of their magical stamina. They each cast one spell more before going down into unconsciousness with a terrible headache. You've been there yourself. Really, now you think about it, you're pretty close to it right now. You are much better than them, but there are many more curses you have to cast.

Your allies are standing their ground, and as soon as the necromancers start going down, they start gaining ground. Your undead are holding the line, but not doing much else at the moment.

Good Call!

Roar! Rargh!

You focus to regain your senses. No, these drow may be squishy, but there is still more than fifty of them left. Charging blindly would leave you vulnerable. You join with your allies.

The elven elder casts a spell. You see a bear, identical to you appear on either side of you. You look around and there seem to be three times as many of you as there were before. It is an illusion, clearly, but the defensive advantage is irrefutable.

>It's safe now and you could use having access to your magic. Turn back to human.
>Now that you have this layer of protection, lead your allies in a charge. The drow are fast, but they cannot evade a group as large as yours.

Just taking the first roll, because highest number is irrelevant. Fuck you, dice gods, I liked that guy.

Magic 19, Tactics, double critfail. On the upside, tou've gained Tactics 2. On the other...

You proceed with caution. There is much to be lost here, you could take one more hit, maybe two. You walk towards the last remaining necromancer and pull his life-force out of him, healing your body. You have one wound.

It was a poisoned knife. An assassin leaps from the shadows, towards Lathrien. The elder does not even appear to move, but when the knife lands, it is in his chest.

He might have lived, if not for the poison.

Roll 4d20+12 for Melandie's rage.

60. Well. You know.

If not for the elder's lingering magic the drow might have had a chance. But Melandie is everywhere at once. It is not so much preternatural skill, or even the rage (though it is significant) as it is the will to do damage to the drow. Of course, it is not all Melandie. Everyone is feeling the pain of the loss of the elder. There is righteous vengeance coming from each of you.

But Melandie is the one howling the cry that freezes the blood of the drow for that second that it takes to cut swathes through them. Melandie is the one to cause so much carnage as to terrify the drow into a standstill.

Melandie is the one to take a blow after blow without flinching.

The battle is over.

The old aqueduct is flowing with blood.

Sorry, no precedent. You can talk to bound spirits, but you cannot talk to departing souls. If it makes you feel better, he has a much better chance to get to a good afterlife than you do.

So long as gods aren't even worse dicks than we thought.

You still channel all of your magic into a Goodbye. You know he doesn't have the skill to say it back, but you think you feel...

Now this is some bullshit, that doesn't happen.

Not that you aren't glad for it.

A blue, see-through illusion of the elder, waves at all of you gathered. It is just an illusion. It is not a magical ghost or anything so silly. But, well, you could probably make your magic linger a little if you died.

He is smiling.

>That's settled. It's unfortunate, but done. Melandie is still alive and needs your help.

You make sure Melandie gets proper care first. The dead have no use in a rush. The wounds look bad to you, but Bathory assures you she can treat them. Melandie regains consciousness soon after, but Bathory feeds her herbs to sleep.

The pain would be too great she says. You know that neither of you knows what pain she truly means.

It takes a few hours four you to get up the courage to truly think about it. Elven burial rites. Essentially, burial at sea. You are meant to build a boat, and send him to the sea. There is a river nearby. Ancient elves thought it was sufficient to send the body downriver in a boat.

>Well not for him it is not. You are going to ferry the body downriver all the way to the sea in person.

Guys, I liked the dude too. In this quest I always roll with the dice. I am too nice a GM otherwise, in fleshspace and online both.

You will give him not only the spirit, but the letter of the ancient law. You prepare rafts and boats to ferry the elder down the river. Elves from the party offer to come with you. Lathrien is firm in saying that if they didn't come with them into the dungeons they have no right to come with them on the funeral trip.

And with that concludes the XVIII installment of Feral Necromancer Quest. Next session, a lot of travel to new, exotic places. Kind of looking forward to it, but damn, guys. This was one of mighty ups and terrible lows.

I think he is at peace though. Or at least will be when you get him to the sea.

You have 3 exp. Do with them as you wish

Suptg archive of the quest: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=feral+necromancer

Don't think I'm going to be doing much of updating of either twitter or pastebin until mid-July. Sorry for that too. I will most certainly be keeping track of your choices though.

It's not as late as I thought it would be by the end of the quest, I'll stick around for a bit.

This might be the closest to unanimous we've ever been.

You've learned Illusion III

You have gained Send Dream ritual spell.

This brief ritual, taking fifteen minutes to cast, can send an illusory message to anyone you know by name or by face, that will reach them the next time they sleep. They will always remember this dream and know it to be more than just a dream.

Combo with Draconic Magic II!

Send Nightmare

A very similar ritual to Send Dream, but instead of a message you send phantom terrors that will torment the target for 1d20 nights after you send it, leaving them exhausted, paranoid and out of focus.

Send nightmare: When you don't want to just kill them, but fuck them up forever.

Look, the spells in this quest are pretty potent by design. You could pretty much kill all the dwarves at Shamanism I with good enough rolls.

Actually, Earthquake ritual might not be a terrible way to deal with all the drow forever after what they did this thread.

Sure, he could probably wipe out known civilization at this point (though if he tried, he'd be in for a few surprises), but he fucking gives enough of a shit not to.

And it was dope to solve all of your diplomatic problems with one big, fuck-off amazing party.
