You are awoken in the middle of the night by shouting and the resounding gong of the temple bell.

With a start you tumble out of your bed, landing in heap of covers and sheets. “Adria!” Tamamo shouts as she practically charges into your room. “N-nani- Ah! What’s h-happening?”

It takes you a moment to marshal your scattered thoughts even as you escape from the blanket cocoon and scramble to your feet. “Alarm bell!” You finally manage. Tamamo eeps. She glances out the window with a shudder as you throw on a set of clothes. One of your flailing hands manages to grab your sword from where it leans against the wall.

You’re halfway out the door when you turn around and say. “Stay here, Tamamo. Keep safe.”

If you were a moment quicker you would have missed her frantic “Anata mo!” at another time you would find her constant language hopping cute, but right now your mind barely even registers her words.

As you rush through the streets the sounds of shouting grow louder, and the number of people grows. It’s not long before you’re dodging left and right to avoid others running just as recklessly as you. As you near the wall, you even catch sight of a few houses on fire, with people throwing water to douse the flames.

You make it to the top of the wall just in time to catch the fading sound of hoof beats.

The soldiers, and adventurers, on the wall form an island of calm, even as the shouting and running continues in the streets below. Most of the men and women are scanning the horizon, and you see your mom, Warhammer in hand, a bit down the balustrade.

It takes you a moment to compute that knowledge, but in the end you’re barely even surprised. Hell if the raid happened close enough to morning she may have already been awake. You’ve certainly never caught your mother napping.

One of the guards notices you as you make your way towards her. “Raid’s over lass.” He says. “May as well head back and get some more shut eye.”

[1/2]
>>
>>40668149
“Of course you would say that Adnar.” One of the women says with a snort. “Just because they pulled out for the moment doesn’t mean they’ll stay gone!”

You leave their burgeoning argument behind and step up next to your mom. “Think it’s really over?” You ask.

Sylea is silent for a moment, scanning the horizon with sharp eyes. The moon overhead is full, but that barely provides enough light to see fifty paces away unless something is moving. Your mom seems mostly unaffected, but with years of tricks for spotting enemies in the night, you suppose that shouldn’t come as a surprise.

After a moment she relaxes her grip on the hammer. “I believe so.” She says. “Usually desert raiders aren’t patient enough to wait this long before another pass. Sun’ll be up in an hour and twenty anyway.”

You nod, letting out a sigh of relief. “The raids getting more frequent.” You note. When you were a child it was a rarity if raiders tried to hit the city once every few months. Now it’s getting closer to every two weeks.

“Must be problems in the Morrodak.” The Morrodak desert lies to the West of Tymera’s blood, and stretches as far as the eye can see. After a moment more she shrugs and slides the Warhammer onto you back. You imagine the two of you look much the same, in the moonlight. Staring out into the distance with massive weapons strapped to your back.

“In any case.” She says. “No point in going back to sleep now.”

You nod. “I figure I’ll just see what jobs the guards need done or something.”

Sylea laughs lightly. “Well before you do anything else, young lady.” She fixes you with a stern glare. “You are going to get a new set of armor fitted. I already talked to Darse yesterday, go see him before you do anything else.”

“Yes mom.” You say with a sigh.

The Knight job is available (and it's stronger than the Light Swordsman job), but you need to agree on a Code of Chivalry to take the job. Some of Adria's key character traits so far seem to be
>The desire to grow stronger
>The need to defend the innocent and stomp out discrimination
>The feeling that life must be lived to the fullest

With your jobs list maxed out you now need to switch out jobs if you want to take new ones. You may also want to start planning your time and how you want to level your jobs.
I'll do my best to provide opportunities, but things will be easier on both sides if I have a sense of what you guys want to do most at the moment
>>
>>40668514
You said knight focuses more on cavalry things yes? what does it let u use better/heavier armor as well
>>
>>40668597
It gives access to more powerful skills. Armor isn't really affected but you could use a shield to no detriment. By isn't affected, I mean you could wear heavy armor or light armor as you please.
I just gave light to start with.

Also, knight skills will allow you to fight effectively on horseback, whereas otherwise you would have a disadvantage when you attempted to do so.

Other than that it's mostly preference, if you guys don't want to be a knight, then you don't have to be a knight.

I'm just trying to get a bit of conversation going about something, trying to draw the players into the character decisions a bit more. Not sure if I've been doing a good job of that or if the quiet threads are just cause there isn't enough cute going on.
>>
>>40668662
I feel ya. I'm just being lazy right now though. Don't really want to come up with a Code right now even though I do want to try Knight out.
>>
>>40668662
I think I'd prefer to stick with the lightswordsman job a little longer, since it seems to give stances and the like, while it seems so far Knight will be more confrontationally focused.

But I'll still try to come up witha code for when we need it seems fun

Ah laziness, my old foe.

>>40668720
>>40668726
A Code of Chivalry is an oath that you will uphold certain values or defend certain people or places.
The best way to start is to make a list of specifics like
>>40668766
Afterwards, you fancy it up some and swear to uphold it at a temple whose god is at least partially in line with your values. Tymera would be good for most moral Codes.
>>
>>40668796
>>40668808

So working on it, what is a good knightly way to say growth or constant evolution?
>>
>>40668822
Seek to better ones self
>>
>>40668822

>>
>>40668846

“I’ll go to Darse right now, okay?”

Your mom smiles. “Thank you. And here.” She gives you three gold coins, which you slip into your coin purse. “That’s the rest of the commission.”

You give her a small grin. “You’re the best, Mom.” you say.

New armor, especially well made armor, can be really expensive. Six gold (or potentially more) is enough for something decent, which takes a big weight off of your shoulders after your last cuirass was ruined by a spear to the gut.

With a quick hug you’re down off the wall and weaving your way through the people on the streets towards Darse’s forge. Things are still a bit frantic, but you do your best to let people know that the raid is probably over with.

Most people, the smarter ones probably, head back home to get some more shut eye. You have too much of your mother in you though. Can’t bear to stand still when you could be out doing something.

Anyway, you pick up your armor from Darse. It’s a new cuirass a lot like your last one, except that the metal pulls out slightly at your shoulder, according to him it’s so: “yer berd c’n ‘old on withou’ a probl’m. Won’t loss much p’rtection ov’r it, all told.” Which is nice.

After that you swing by your house to pick up Tamamo (and get her to calm down about you being safe. Gods, next time you might just bring her along). Sree swoops down on you when you leave the house again.

[1/2]
>>
>>40668906
“New armor is best armor!” She proclaims when she sees the changes. It does make you feel less off balance now that she doesn’t really have to grip your arm. Birds and their tiny legs you know?

“Glad you like it.” You say with a grin, as you scoop Tamamo up and hold her, she seems a bit sleepy still. “So I know it’s a bit early, but are you guys ready for some more adventuring?”

Tamamo sighs, but nods with a small smile. Sree flaps her wings “Yes yes!” Well, it’s clear to you who’s the early bird.

You have a few Options
>Go talk to the guards, they’re bound to have a few jobs that need doing now
>Follow the compass, city jobs will probably be boring stuff
>Wander around and see if anyone needs help.
>>
>>40668818
Alright, writefagging a basic code for anon's perusal.

Those who we believe to be unjustly persecuted, espically due to the circumstances of their birth, may come to us for aid. This shall not change.

Those who find themselves without purpose in this world may come to us for direction. This shall not change.

Those that we call our family shall always have our ear, our heart, our blade. This shall never change.

Any circumstance that would try us, or force us to choose between these vows, shall be overcome. If we are not strong enough to uphold our prommises, we will make ourselves strong enough to uphold them. There will be no compromise on this vow.

So trying to go along with the codes of Chivalry I divided up into 3 broad categories to Follow

Nobility

-To protect the weak and those suffering of injustice.
-To work only with those that are righteous.
-To defend our love ones, both in body and Honor.

Life

-To waste not a day.
-To always seek the next adventure.
-To never allow living to get in the way of life.

Undaunted Progress

-To always strive to reach the next peek.
-To never turn away in the face of challenge.
-To always be a student, on the road to being a master.

And to be swore in-front of a Cleric

Upon my Blade do I swear to always uphold my Noble Ideals, no one shall be left to injustice, nor will evil be done. By my honor never will a day be wasted, or an hour unspent. Each moment and breath shall bring me closer to the next horizon as I walk endless roads to adveture, here I swear as Ser Adria of Reiln, Kight of Tymera

Growing bonds with loved ones is not a wasted day anon, making time for friends is something people honestly need to do more.

Those memories and moments will never leave a person, even if they themselves can no longer do what they once could they can remember and go on to teach as well.

Sure we may need to always do something, but making sure our family is happy is something
>>
I this is where we decide what's important to us.

>>40669072 supports what seems like an active knight lifestyle. Always questing, always making things better, but very little time for ourselves if we're really seeking to do good.

>>40668935 was me trying to go more for a mother-like direction. Old granny getting another shot at life with all the wisdom of the previous one, wanting to guide and protect only the few things we care about.

Basically, do we want to stand for a few big, broad things, or a few smaller, more specific things?
>>
>>40669195
This is a very valid point.
Basically, keep in mind that you're swearing this oath to the Goddess of Motherhood, and she seems to like you.
So, no only will she be completely understanding of things like spending time with friends and family, she will also hold you to the spirit of your oath, rather than word.

Also, sorry for the brief delay, but writing now for real.
>>
>>40669289
From the way he described the class I just think he ment we do not get the bonus if we are not following the code, however we take a break day to relax we won't really need the bonuses, once we get back to it the bonuses reapply right man?

>>
>>40669316
You get a bonus to all actions supporting your code on top of any other bonuses.

You get no specially bonuses for actions not following your code, but can still use other active skills.

You only loose the job if you purposefully violate your code, and even then you are able to redeem yourself.
>>
>>40669335
Supposedly "Chivalry"

“The guards’ll definitely have some work that needs doing.” Sree lets out a dramatic groan. “Hey, money is money okay? And it’s not like all of their jobs are bad. Just… some of them are rather boring.”

“Or lead to Adria-sama getting stabbed in the stomach.” Tamamo mutters mutinously.

You grin at her. “What was that, little fox? You’re ticklish, well why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Her eyes widen comically as your arms clamp her tight to your chest, hands sliding into position.

“AAhhh! Iie! Yamete! Stoooooop!” But her cries for mercy fall on deaf ears as you being to tickle your kitsune companion. She wriggles in your arms, laughing helplessly (and loudly enough that you probably woke a few people) until you make it to the guards outpost.

When you finally let up she glares up at you, or tries to rather, as she’s doing a fairly poor job of hiding the happy smile, especially after you start petting her ears again.

The harried looking guard spares you all the effort of one cocked eyebrow before moving on to the matter at hand. “Right yes, you’re here for a job?” You start to reply he’s already talking again. “Good, great. Actually. We have plenty of things that need to get done after the raid… let’s see here…” He consults a rumpled legger.

“Hmm, we’re sending a group of adventurers to Bleakwind to ask about the raids, that’ll take a fortnight both days, but pays the best. Also, the raiders hit some storage sheds down river, we need someone to guard the workers who’ll be repairing them. They leave at dawn, more or less. If you have a horse –I seem to remember someone mentioning you got one- there’s a small group of outriders forming to sweep the rest of the river, make sure we didn’t miss anything. As argentorum said, he seems to think he is.

>>40669713
That said, do you guys want a pokemon style sort of rival? (Doesn't have to be David). When I envisioned this quest I actually thought you'd be moving on from Reilnby now, but there's still time to make a real rival and all that.

>>40669741
You also beat his ass, so now he's doubly out to get you.

====

On another note, quick question for future threads:
How much economy do you want to see? Right now, all we have is this basic resourse system. You get paid, things cost money. So far, meals aren't counted cause you're still technically living at home.

Would you prefer I expand on this and make it a small but consistant part of the quest? Do away with it entirely as you get more money? Slowly work in a full economy (or at least the facade of one)?

I'm asking because working out this part of the system will be a decent amount of work, so I'd rather get started on designs early.

>>
>>40669837
Naturally. I do my best to only right real characters.

David is a bit on the caricature side, but I have met people like him so I figure he's fine. A real 'rival' will be a fleshed out, well developed character that clashes with you personality and action wise.

“I do have a horse.” You say. “How much are the outriders getting paid?”

The guard snorts. “A lot, considering that there are only about three, four counting you, adventurers with horses all told. Reiln was always a boating city.” He shakes his head. “See where it’s got us? Raiders can come in whenever they like and we can’t keep up with them on their godsdamned steppe horses.”

You roll your eyes. “Can I get an actual number?”

“Ah- right, well, it’s three gold base pay just for reconnaissance. That’s basically the hazard pay too up to a certain amount. The captain will authorize you getting more if you stave off an entire raiding party or what not.”

“Right. Put me down for the group then, when are we leaving?”

“Once the sun breaks the horizon.” He says. “No point in scouting if you can’t see anything, after all.” That leaves you with about half an hour to do things before you have to get Albatross and head to the gate.

You wish the guard a good day, but he’s already moving on to his next task. Like you said, you have some time, and things are settling down after the raid. That said, it’s not like any of the shops are going to be open. Darse just has weird hours.

Time might be best spent deciding what to bring? Granted, most of your supplies won’t be too helpful but you never know. Anyway, is there anything you want to do before joining the party?

I'm voting against changing to Knight. I don't think we have the time and also it won't really come with many if any bonuses at level 1.

Dunno if we'll need camping supplies for a recon job. May want to ask Argent how long the mission is supposed to be when he gets back.

>>

Bedrolls and campfire stuff is a bit heavy. Bring stuff for a day, but not for camping overnight.
>>
>>40670401
Not sure where you read campfire stuff, the bedrolls arwn't that heavy and a bit if extra food isn't much either considering we have a horse to carry it.
If we would intend to use mounted combat it would be a issue, but this way it really isn't.
>>
>>40670467
Stuff for a day, that includes food.

Bedrolls and TENT is quite a bit of stuff. It won't affect speed, but it will tire Albatross faster and make underwater running less of an option(wet bedroll).

Besides, we need that space for loot.
>>
>>40670529
Where do you keep comjuring these things from? No one wrote anything about a tent.
And food for a day means food for a day, its early morning.
>>
>>40670570
You're camping without a fire and without a tent. With a horse, a harpy, and a fox girl. Are you being serious here?
>>
>>40670626
People camp without tents since the dawn of time, anon. And finding supplies to make a fire won't be particularly hard if we ned one.
>>
>>40670626
You realise you would usually gather firewood on-place if you need it?
Just sleeping in a bedroll isn't that unusual either.
I'm a bit confused why you think we would need a twnt for the horse though..
>>
Okay, by the looks of it we're in agreement about
>Mapmaking stuff and small gear (compasses and spyglass
>All armor
>Food for a day (for the horse as well)

Calling a quick vote for other stuff now.
>Bring bedroll, and light camping gear?
>Bring tent and supplies for overnight

You don't know how endurant Albatross is, but as a goddess's gift you can reasonably assume he's at least as good as a normal horse of his size and build.

To expand, he's got a mix between a sprinters and a distance runners build, and should perform decently at both, but may be out performed by specialized breeds. If he were a normal horse of course.

Anyway, writing!

not so much a tent for the horse, but 3 bedrolls for everyone is more baggage than a single tent.

Then there's still the matter of not getting them wet if we need to stealth it up with an underwater route.
>>
>>40670784
Flint and Tinder, Albatrosses horse blanket, your lantern.
Essentially that stuff.
>>
>>40670817
Most of your supplies will be with Albatross. So far he hasn't shown that he can actually turn off his ability to walk on water as if it were solid ground.
>>

>not staying warm by cuddling in one bedroll
Anon pls.
>>
>>40670853
wait, so he can't run underwater? awwww.
>>
>>40670817
A tent wouldn't replace bedrolls, unless we are talking about a absurdly extravagant one, and then its definitly heavier than two or three bedrolls.

And if we go underwater, whyever you think thats a option or something we need to do mounted, then our everyrhing will be wet and need drying anyway.
>>
>>40670874
He may be able to swim.

Run under water? Well, even if you could breath under water (which you can't) and albatross could breath under water (which you doubt), the rest of the outriders would not be able to follow you, and you would reveal that Albatross was a magic horse for what would be essentially no benefit.
>>
>>40670908
To be fair, its a gift from the goddess of the sea, assuming it can breath underwater isn't that farfetched.
>>
>>40670908
>>40670906
fine, fine. I'm no expert at tents and camping, and I assumed that Albatross can run underwater if we need to flank them somehow without them spotting us.

The bedrolls getting wet would be a problem because of how much water they would soak up and how much heavier that makes them.

Bring bedroll, and light camping gear?
>>
>>40670957
Goddess of Rivers actually.
And he can already walk on water, and is apparently intelligent enough to understand you. Granted he's a gift, but there are limits on how many blessings your first (and potentially only, cause he's awesome) mount has.
>>
>>40671005
I don't want to seem ungrateful, I'm just saying it wouldn't have surprised me if it could breathe underwater.
>>
>>40671047
It wouldn't.
However I didn't really think it would be necessary, considering he can run on water in the first place.

And I'm just gonna come out and say that he can't alter his density so that he can run along the bottom of rivers. Granted you could find ways around that part, but just so you know.

Almost done with the next post.

You decide to pick up some stuff before heading out, most of it’s at your house though, which is good for you.

Setting Tamamo down (No! Don’t look at the puppy eyes! She can walk dammit!) the three of you quickly head back to your house and you grab the rest of your gear. Along with your standard kit (compass, map stuff, potions, etc), you make sure to pack a day’s worth of rations into Albatross’s saddle bags and tie on a bed roll.

You eye it critically. With the three of you it will be a bit snug, but you can’t imagine Tamamo will accept another bed roll after she fought so hard to sleep in your room instead of the guest room, and Sree certainly won’t care.

You shrug, you can make it work. Not like you’re planning on staying out or anything.

With that, you turn to the most daunting task of the morning, and pick up the horse bridle.

Albatross takes one look at it and snorts dangerously at you, you swear you see his eyes flashing. “Hey, boy, calm down, okay? I’m not gonna force you to wear it.” You make placating gestures with your hands, and when he calms down you thank Tymera again for the fact that he can apparently understand you.

“Just here me out, okay boy?”

He gives you a long look, but then whickers. As if to say ‘sure, whatever’. If it were possible for a horse to look standoffish, then that’s what he’s doing right now.

“It’s not really for you okay, look it doesn’t even have a bit!” He stares at you warily, and you sigh. “Okay fine. It’s so I have something to hold on to because I have absolutely no idea on how to ride a horse.”

[1/2]
>>
>>40671153
Albatross snorts, “Yeah, yeah laugh it up.” When he turns to the side to show you his saddle, and the pommel probably you add. “Well, think of it as camouflage? I’m definitely not a good enough rider to get by without a bridle if you were a normal horse. So please? For me.”

Albatross paws the ground a few times before tossing his head and walking over to you again. “Thanks Alby!” You say, hugging him around the neck. “You’re a gem!”

He whinnies lightly, butting his head against your shoulder, but then lets you put the bridle on.

That sorted, you finish up with strapping on your gear and head to the gate, figuring that it won’t kill you to be early. You ride up, Tamamo sitting on the saddle in front of you as Sree makes lazy circles overhead. She won’t need to land for at least half a day, longer if the thermals are good, so she can do what she pleases for the time being.

Apparently you aren’t the only one who thought to arrive early, because there’s a young man there with his gray. He’s dressed in heavy armor and has a two handed axe on his back. Actually by the looks of it, that’s Carter, one of David’s friends. You sigh.

He’s not a bad guy, just rather… narrow minded? Yeah let’s go with that.

You slide off Albatross before helping Tamamo get down. When Carter catches sight of you you give him a nod and a wave, which he returns after a moment, before turning back to his gear. Looks like he’s taking care of his hauberk.

While you wait for the others to come, you draw to the side some (so no one will see you talking to your horse). “Want to work out some signals boy?” He tosses his head, which you guess amounts to a shrug.

You have time to teach him a few basic ones. ‘Stay there’, ‘come’, ‘watch’, is all you get through by the time the other two arrive, chatting amicably as they do.

There’s one girl, she has a worm looking traveling cloak and a simple staff. The pendant of river stones at her neck marks her as a cleric in all likelihood. The other is a young looking elf with a bow and arrows. You rejoin the group as they form up near the gate. Tamamo draws a few odd looks, but no one comments.

After a moment of silence the young woman speaks up. “I suppose I’ll start introductions then. My name is Seles, and I’m a cleric. I’m decent with my staff, but mainly I heal. So far I’ve deigned not to learn any offensive miracles, instead I specialize in healing both with and without Tymera’s help”

“My name is Valen.” The elf says with a short bow. His River speech is slightly accented. “The two of us will probably for the back line on any encounters we might have. As you can see, I am an archer, though I have good knowledge of plants and wildlife, should they prove helpful.”

You smile. “I’m Adria. Swordwoman and mage with about equal skill. I’m also a tactician, but not a very experienced one yet. Unlike you two, most of my skills are directly combat related, so I’ll be the one charging the enemy.”

[1/2]
>>
>>40671631
“A tactician you say?” Valen asks. Seles seems vaguely put out by that declaration, and she’s looking at you with a gimlet eye. “Not many of my people choose to take that job.”

You shrug. “Like I said, I’m new to it. So far it’s just very helpful for making maps, but it seemed useful at the time.”

“Indeed, we should endeavor to make a map before we return.”

You nod. “Also, my two friends are coming with me, Tamamo here,” She’s doing her best to not hide behind your leg “who’s excellent at sneaking, and learning some archery and Sree,” You point up towards the sky. Currently she’s low enough to distinguish as a harpy. “I figure we can’t go wrong with a sky view.”

Seles glances at both of them. “Seems like they may be more trouble than their worth.” She declares. “Carrying two people will slow your horse down, and we aren’t here to play baby sitter.”

Carter grunts. “She’s effectively doubling our fighting force. No reason to turn them away, if they get in trouble that’s their fault.” He says. “Name’s Carter. I’m a heavy weapon user and an alchemist, have a few extra regen potions with me and I can make some salves if need be. I’m good enough on a horse that I won’t need to dismount to fight in most cases.” He glances at you. “Just don’t hit me with lightning.”

You raise your hands in acknowledgement. “I won’t.”

“Good.” Seles says. “If that’s all, we should head out now. The sun’s about to rise.”

All five of you mount up and start heading south along the river.

As you draw away from the city you pull up next to Carters horse. Right now all of your horses are going at an easy trot, no point in wasting their energy. Once you get out some you’ll slow to a walk, what with all the ground you have to cover.

Carter glances over at you with a raised eyebrow. “What?”

You shrug. “Just want to pass the time.” You say, making sure to pay attention to your surroundings even as you talk. The sun is just peaking over the horizon in the east, but since you’re mostly worried about what’s west of the river, that works in your favor. “And, you know, thanks for taking my side back there.”

He rolls his eyes. “I meant what I said, if either of them get in over their heads I’m not going to risk my neck to bail them out.”

You just smile. “I’m confident in their abilities. Besides, you gave them the chance, which is more than I can say for a lot of people.”

“Whatever you say. So was there something actually important you wanted to talk about?”

“Yeah.” You say. “If you don’t mind chatting about alchemy some? I was considering taking the job, right now I’m a tailor just because it seems more useful on the road.”

He looks over at you. “More immediately useful sure, until you run out of potions and get stabbed by a bandit.”

You nod. “See that’s the thing. But it can’t be easy to make potions on the road.”

“Potions? No, but salves, and tonics are simple enough.” He says. “Plus, if you study some alchemy, you learn what plants and reagents actually have value. I’m studying with a real alchemist at the college, you know?” He snorts. “One day this idiot came in with a bag full of blueberries. The godsdamned fool thought they were night belle seeds or some such.”

The two of you share a laugh at that. “And what did he do when you told him?”

“Ate them. When I told him I had been joking he almost had a heart attack!”

“Very useful then.” You say, and he nods. “Think you could teach me a bit of it.”

He looks over at you. “What, Alchemy?” you shrug in reply. “Not anything meaningful while we’re scouting the river no. You have to memorize what the plants look like before you can do anything. And just describing them is a perfect way to get yourself poisoned.”

“True.” You say. “Too bad, guess I’ll just have to take the job myself, or you know, find you when you’re at the college.”

He grunts. “Guess so.”

Talking to everyone about tactics.

What do you guys propose other than You and Carter in the front, Seles and Valen backing you up?
That's what I'll start with.
>>
>>40672377
Since Carter is the only one who seems to be able to fight on horseback, we need to either ambush our opponents, so everyone else can dismount, or he needs to charge in with Sree harrying enemies until the rest have encircled/cut off the enemy so we can dismount and attack them.
>>
>>40672377
Well, there is always the Harpy Chem warfare people always bringing up and we do have an alchemist in the party.
>>
>>40672377

>>40672418
Ask Carter if he has something like that, in that case everyone needs to wait for our signal, so they don't run into whatever Sree dropped.
>>
>>40672377
I suppose Sree and Tamamo can be recon. Tamamo is still new to the whole 'archery' thing, so we probably shouldn't have her firing into a melee if we're in one with Carter. She can pick off less critical targets, or suppress other ranged combatants.
>>
>>40672377
Make sure to ask Carter if his horse would freak out when we use lightning, if it does, we need to have a signal for that too.
In addition to
>>40672413
>>40672418
>>
>>40672183
You pull back a bit, ending up between Carter and the other two, who are likewise riding abreast. “We should talk about formations and tactics.” You say loudly enough for everyone to hear. “There’s a chance we’ll run into something we need to fight, so best get some basics out of the way first right?”

Seles looks at you for a moment. “We are supposed to be keeping looking out.” She says. “Though your idea has merit, you should have brought it up before we left.”

You roll your eyes. “Sree can keep better look out than the rest of us put together.” A quick glance up reveals she’s high enough to be taken for a normal bird at a glance, circling your slow procession from above. “There’s nothing she’ll miss that we’ll see, unless it’s right on top of us, in which case it won’t matter.”

Seles frowns but Valen cuts in. “We are still within relatively safe territory, so it would be best to get these matters out of the way now, would it not?”

After a moment Seles sniffs. “Fine. What do you suggest? I believe it is understood that you, Carter and your friends will attack head on while Valen and I provide support.”

You shrug. “Tamamo would be better off with you and Valen actually, and recon if there are caves to look at. But otherwise yes. However, Carter’s the only one said he can reliably fight on horseback. While being mounted shouldn’t affect your miracles, can you fight if need be?”

“Not particularly well, and it is prudent to plan for all situations.” She turns to Valen. “What about you?”

[1/2]
>>
>>40672377
Tamamo should only fire before our melee forces clash and to stop anybody from running away.

If she falls off, focus on not getting hit. Acting as bait and distraction is safer and more useful than trying to keep fighting.
>>
>>40672571
“I’m a decent shot on horseback.” He says. “However, I too would be much better off on my own two feet or,” He give a small smile. “Preferable in a tree or some other hard to reach place.”

“Indeed.”

You give his joke the quick laugh it deserves. “So with that, it would probably be best if we all dismounted and approached our enemies on foot, to stay in formation. Or, Carter and Sree and charge in while the rest of us follow up.” Suddenly a thought occurs to you.

“Hey Carter, You have any bombs?”

He glances over his shoulder warily at you. “One or two… why?”

“Well if you give them to Sree, she can drop them on the enemy from above, no way to defend against it.”

He snorts, “That sound like a terrible idea.”

“What, worse than carrying explosives into battle on your person?”

“Yes well unlike your harpy friend I know how my bombs work. So I’m not going to be accidentally setting them off before I need to!”

Seles and Valen both seem to be on the fence about the issue and aren’t likely to weigh in either way.

Seles give you an odd look. “Not especially so. Why do you ask?” Carter snorts. Yeah, he probably would have been there for your duel with David.

“The only element I use is lightning.” You say. “And while it’s not as loud as real lightning, it certainly isn’t quiet either. It could be a problem so I’m just letting you all know.”

“Hmm.” Valen shakes his head. “That shouldn’t be an issue for me either.”

“But again it’s all moot if we approach on foot.” Seles adds.

You shrug. “I figure we’ll approach any situation as it is needed. If we get jumped, there really won’t be time to get off the horses and move away. We’ll just have to make do.”

“And magic is certainly easier to manage in the saddle the a two handed broad sword I suppose.” Seles says, eyeing the weapon.

You shoot her a quick grin, “Actually I use it one handed.” She blanches.

“That aside.” Valen continues smoothly. “It seems like we have two main strategies if we engage on our term? Either we surround them on foot, or Carter and… Sree was it? disrupt the enemy for the rest of us.”

You nod. “That’s about the size of it. Of course, if we get attacked, Carter and I will move to defend you two. Hopefully that won’t happen. One last thing though,” You turn to Seles. “Do you have any combat blessings?”

“A few.” She says. “But most of them rely on the target remaining close to me, so I can only functionally use them upon myself. If nothing else, I will be more of a threat than I first appear.”

“Good enough.” You say. “That should just about cover everything.”

“Actually…” Seles says. “You discussion of tactics has reminded me of a very important point. We never did decide who the de facto leader of this expedition would be. That too should be decided before we head into combat.”

Before anyone can reply Sree swoops down and lands on your shoulder. “Raiders!” She crows, grinning. “Hiding in the ravine!”

That's it for tonight folks! Sorry for the shorter thread.
Next time: Have it out with Seles and Raid some Raiders!
Will stick around to talk and answer questions as usual!

There may be a thread tomorrow, will keep you posted. If not, the next thread may have to wait until Sunday (at the longest).

Hope you all had fun!

Thanks for running.

>We never did decide who the de facto leader of this expedition would be.
Considering that half the expidition already only listens to us, we didn't really need deciding that.

Thanks man have a good one.

Well, I'm glad that didn't turn out as bad as I expected. Shadowruns all over the place in my decisions.

Honestly, I'd rather deal with raiders than party dynamics. More straightforward.

Have a good night, Argent.

The question is, does Seles see you as a leader, or as her assistant?
