>In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only... GOVERNMENT!
>You are John Erlwise Shabti, an imperial noble who was granted governorship over the planet Valencia. From your capital city, Valencia Prime, you over see the development of your planet
>In the last thread, we attended the first half of Fausta Helvera's party and met the woman herself. She turned out to be rather icy and harsh, but was interested in the many amazing things that have happened on Valencia and has invited us back for a follow up party.
>Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, we encountered another woman by the name of Va-Sera, a lady general and friend of Frederick, and ended up sharing one too many drinks with her. We woke up the next day to a hang over and us sleeping next to Va-Sera

You make your way down to breakfast, rubbing your eyes awake. Already seated is Helena, Jacobim, and Frederick. If he also had a hang over, Frederick certainly wasn't showing it. Then again, he rarely shows any emotion from behind his gas mask and you briefly realize you've never seen his face. A servant places a plate of food down before you, but before you can dig in, Helena speaks up. "John, I detected two life signs in your room... who did you have in there with you?" She asks, tilting her head.
>Our response?
>>
>>40629624
"I invited Lady General Va-Sera back for drinks."

We'll get an earful. We can recover from getting an earful. Deceiving an ally, an important one at that, can damage our trust worthiness
>>
>>40629624
"Does the company I keep in bed interest you?"

Ask with a slightly curious but not too obvious or to noticeable.

Are we at breakfast right now 1 on 1 or is there 12 other suitors on the room?

Also first time i caught a quest this early!
>>
>>40629624

>>
>>40629624
Invited the Lord General for drinks.
She's wearing one of your gas masks by the way.

"I invited Lady General Va-Sera back for drinks. She ended up staying the night." You say with a calm smile. "By the way Frederick, she's wearing one of your gas masks currently." At this, Frederick seems to be stunned for a moment, before standing. "If you excuse me." He mutters, leaving the room.
Helena looks over to you, her one organic eye wide. "Y-you had a woman over night!?!"" She says, standing. "John, I thought we were here for you to romance Fausta Helvera. This could ruin our chances if she finds out!" Jacobim nods, letting out a grunt. "For once, I agree with the cog-girl. This seems like it can easily back fire on you."
>Well, our advisers aren't very confident in our decision. How do we calm their fears?
>>
>>40629933
"Well I doubt she would want to talk to much about this either. I bet her brother wouldn't be to thrilled about this turn of events."
>>
>>40629933
You're all probably right. I can talk to her at other times. Just to clear things up, I didn't sleep with her.
>>
>>40629933
"Well we were both fully closed so I don't think things got too far. That said I know what your saying. I'll be better behaved for now, and try not to get smashed out of my mind twice in a week. On the other hand I'll see just how far the suitor dinner goes before I worry overmuch. Again sorry."
>>
>>40629933
Take a big gulp of whatever we are drinking, then quickly and quietly go to where Fredrick is to see what happens between Va-Sera.
>>
>>40630009
*clothed. Damnit!
>>
>>40629933
I will deal with that if it becomes an issue. Besides >>40629963
>>
>>40629933

"You are both completely correct, of course. She must never learn of this indiscretion."
>>
>>40630009
this.
>>
>>40629933
Well I am generally interested in military stories, and it's rare to see a Lady-Lord General. Romancing is great and all but out here in the frontier, the friendship with a Lord General can mean the difference between a last stand and holding for reinforcement. While a wife would be nice and all I'll still have to consider our collevtive futures.
>>
>>40630009

This sounds good. I would add "I would rather not alienate her, as she could be a powerful ally." This way, if the "princess" seduction fails or seems like a less good idea, we don't burn any bridges.

You hold your hands up. "Easy, listen you two." You say, Helena and Jacobim backing off. "What I did was irresponsible, yes, but both Va-Sera and I were fully clothed when we woke up. I don't think anything happened between us. Nonetheless, word of this shouldn't get out, though I'll have to see how well things go with my potential wife tonight before I worry too much."
Helena and Jacobim seem to accept this answer. Soon after, Frederick returns, an extra gas mask stuffed into his suit, with a sleepy eyed Va-Sera in tow. "Ah, morning. Sorry if I overstayed my welcome." Va-Sera says, letting out a yawn. "I would join you, but my brother is probably inquiring about my whereabouts, so I'll see myself out. See you at the dinner tonight."

"Go with the Emperor, Va-Sera." You say with a wave. Va-Sera chuckles at this. "Practicing your formalities for tonight already I see?" She says. "Than I shall do the same." She bows at the waist. "Good fortune to you Governor John Erlwise Shabti." She says before standing up straight and clicking her heels together. You chuckle and stand. "Here, let me show you to the door General." You say as you walk her out. As Va-Sera is about to leave, she turns to you. "So, listen, I don't know how much longer I'm going to be here. My brother doesn't have the nerve to be around a woman like Fausta for very long, and the only reason he got invited back to the dinner is because their relationship would be politically advantageous to the Helvera's. All I'm saying is... if you have something on your mind, make sure to say it soon." She says before turning and leaving before you can get a word in edge wise. You close the door, turning around to see Frederick standing there. "Governor... I cannot state my sincerest apologies at this turn of events. I spoke highly of you to Va-Sera because she is my friend. It was not my intention to get you embroiled in a scandal. You know me, I am not one for political affairs. Still, I have no excuse, and if you wish for me not to attend tonight's dinner, I would understand."

"Besides, Va-Sera is a very interesting woman." You say, Frederick chuckling a bit."Very well governor. But perhaps I'll stop introducing you to my friends." He says with a shrug. You go back and complete your breakfast before getting dressed properly for the day.
>You have some time before the dinner. What would you like to do? Note that we have lost our extra +10 and reroll for self confidence. Fausta quickly did away with that, plus the remaining suitors are just as charming as we are presumably, so we're not as sure. As such, we only have a +10 for social rolls at tonight's dinner.

>Rolls average to 51.3, a partial success. We are going to get rerolls for tonight's dinner in addition to our +10. Rerolls let us reroll our lowest die and keep the highest result.
You remain calm for the most part, enjoying some local cuisine on a balcony with a great view of the city, talking with Frederick, and just staying relaxed. While you can't keep yourself from worrying a little bit, these are only small instances compared to your very relaxing time.
Night falls and the time of the dinner comes. You arrive in the auto-limo provided to you, Frederick, Helena, and Jacobim in tow. You find yourself fashionably on time, with a fair bit of people already there. You spot Fausta sitting near the front of the room on a raised dais. You also spot Va-Sera, sitting with her brother and family. Her brother is the opposite of Va-Sera, being rather scrawny looking and not confident at all. This actually is contrasted against most of her family, evidently, who are all very tall, muscular, and seem to be enjoying the amasec a little too much. Now, you need to figure out where you would like to sit.

Chuckling at the poor saps waiting in line, you scan the room for the nearest free and good looking girl. Finding one, you get up and ask her to dance, the girl's eyes widening. "I-I would love to!" She says as the two of you go to the dance floor. Evidently the girl is named Kelita and is a minor noble from an agri-world and not used to this kind of high class situations. You glance over and notice that Fausta has only just now agreed to dance with the first person in line, Might take a while before you get your chance. The song ends and the men switch partners, with the next person in line eagerly taking Fausta's hands. You also notice, as you dance around, that Va-Sera's brother is still sitting at his table and not dancing, though his sister and the rest of his family is.
>It will be about an hour before the dinner begins. What shall we do?

Well we could kill two birds with one stone and dance with Va-Sera since she is known and maybe that will get Fausta's attention

Instead start pairing up hot ladies with guys in line or those walking around. Basically we should encourage everyone to meet someone they would like to hang out with. If we keep pairing suitors off with more realistic choices we'll look very popular and build some mad cred. Fausta will detect large quantities of swag in our party sector and will come investigate.

You decide that, with the line not getting any shorter, you would try and have at least some fun during the dance. Carefully maneuvering yourself and your partner, you ensure you are close to Va-Sera when the song ends and you take her hands as the next song begins. She smirks as she sees you. "Hello there Governor Shabti. Here to invite me to another round of drinks and stories?" She says with a laugh. "Honestly, I can barely stand all this fanciful dancing. But I suppose growing up on a feral world will do that to ya. So, why don't you tell me about yourself?"
>Well, we learned a bit more about Va-Sera. What would we like to say back?

>>40631911

"Then you're just the woman I was looking for. We could use a little feral world in this party. Help me make things interesting?"

"Then you're just the woman I was looking for. We could use a little feral world in this party. Help me make things interesting?" You ask, Va-Sera raising an eyebrow. You reach out and grab a girl who was not dancing with anyone and, with a spin, push her directly into the hands of a suitor waiting in a line. "Come on people, it's a dance, so dance!" You say. "Round of drinks on me!" You declare, hearing Va-Sera's fmaily letting up a cheer. You dance much more erratically with Va-Sera, more twists, more turns, and much faster paced. Some others in the dance try to emulate it, but being of more posh backgrounds, most cannot. However, the tone of the party definitely becomes more lively.
As the song ends, you find your hand grabbed and you are pulled away from Va-Sera... into Fausta's arms. "John." She says with a neutral tone as the next song starts up. "You know, most men trying to win the heart of a woman don't sleep with another woman the night before." She says with a slight smirk.

"I guess if you want to know what kind of man I am..." You lean in close to her with a wide grin. "we'll have to get to know each other better."
Fausta remains motionless for a few seconds, before leaning back and resuming the dance. "You know John, you never answered my question from yesterday. You never told me what you have done, only what things have happened on your planet." She says. "Many of my suitors told me how they won wars. And it is always them who win it, not their generals, not their soldiers, them." She looks over at Frederick. "Did you know you are only one of two suitors who brought a general to this event? Why is that, I wonder? Valencia certainly doesn't seem to be a major military power." The present song ends, but much to the disappointment of the other suitors, Fausta keeps dancing with you. "I want to know about you. You personally. Not your planet, not your armies, you."

Frederick is the Finest general I have ever met and his tactics have saved my planet more time than I care to count. I watch I observe I give my people an objective and ask for results. I try to keep my eyes open and see what I need too to excel and survive. I've never been much for spotlight, I'd rather get results than sit on ceremony. I try to avoid jumping the gun, but I follow my gut when it seems prudent. I don't cling to a dogma but rather keep my eyes open so I am not led astray by others. I like to think i'm politically savvy, but my planet of origin was never as large or as rich as this one, and in Valencia I am the politics. So I may have waned somewhat.

"I lived an idle life, my lady, perhaps not too much different in tone from yourself. I had not much accounted to myself until I was offered Valencia. It is as if my arrival there as governor was the true start of my story."

This, but add that we broughr Frederick along as a friend rather than as a retainer.

I brought with me my entourage because it is through their service and deeds that my will is implimented. They are not servants, but my subordinate allies.

Maybe add a bit that we spent our life preparing for something greater. Valencia and all that is to come is who I am.

"Well, there's not much to say." You begin with a smile. "I lived a life of a petty noble, bored day in and day out by the constant lack of anything to do. There was no challenge, no responsibility, just leisure. When my family was offered Valencia, I jumped at the chance to be its governor. So, I guess you could say, the planet's founding is when my story truly begins. The deeds of Valencia are my deeds. As for Frederick, not only has he saved my planet more times than I can count, but he's a dear personal friend to me, bearing the stress of leading a new planet right alongside myself, Helena, and my other advisers." Fausta stops dancing for a second, thinking over what you had said. With a deep breath, she opens her mouth to speak...
>1d100+10 to see how much we impressed Fausta. We can reroll our lowest result and take highest.

>Rolls average to 64.3, a success
"Well John, you certainly have set yourself above the rest." She says smiling. "The night isn't even through and I know I'll have you going to the final test. You see John, I've grown too used to people rattling off titles after title in order to impress me. But you... you show up with nothing, but promise the galaxy." As the song ends, she takes a step back. "I am glad I took the advice to invite you." She says, you tilting your head. "Oh, you hadn't heard? I wasn't going to invite you at first. Hell, I never even knew you. But, a dear friend of my father's recommended you to us and I decided to give you a try."
As she turns to go dance with another suitor, she says something that makes your blood run cold. "Perhaps you've heard of him. His name is Roman Diaz."
>(And that's the thread for tonight, I wanna thank everyone for coming out. Next thread will most likely be Wednesday, if not, Friday around 7pm on both days. Hope to see you there!)
