After a few more minutes of calm and silence, where the only sounds are your labored breathing and the slightly quieter breathing of your two friends. Tamamo is sitting in what looks to be a very formal position, her hands kneading the fabric of her makeshift dress.

Sree spends the time running her wingtips across your hair, while she does her best to maintain a happy demeanor. It’s all you can do not to try and get back to your feet, but every time you attempt such a thing, both girls unite and push you back down. In the end, you resign yourself to waiting for the potion to run its course.

Once the final measure of pain fades away from your abdomen you sit up. Once again both girls move to stop you, but you place your hands on their heads and climb the rest of the way to your feet. “I’m fine now.” You say. “See?” You pull aside the bloody remains of your of tunic, revealing smooth skin.

The skin where you were stabbed is lighter than the rest, with a bit of scar tissue forming, but you figure that’s better than having an actual whole in your stomach.

With a sigh, you retrieve your weapons and cast a glance over the assorted bodies of the murlocks. All they have are poory made spears, though, if you wanted to you could break off the heads and bring them back to town to sell.

Murlocks (and most aquatic monsters and Monsters for that matter) use a type of metal that is actually sharper underwater than in the air. People who want to MacGyver their equipment like having weapons made out of the stuff, because if you put water on the blade you’re basically sharpening it.

But you can worry about that later, for now there’s a dungeon to clear.

All that’s left, according to the keplies, are the spiders in the passageway, and the Murlock Chieftain. As the door to the inner sanctum is still shut, you assume he hasn’t noticed that all of his subordinates are dead and gone. The girls finished off the wounded murlocks while you were resting.

They did so with extreme prejudice. So that leaves you with two options of how to proceed. You can deal with the spiders, which the kelpies said they could deal with, or head on into the inner sanctum and finish this.

Sword in hand, friends by your side, you approach the large double doors that bar the way to the inner sanctum of the temple.

You rest a hand on the intricate engravings on the door. Like everything else in the temple, they bring to mind flowing water. In the center of the door is a simple keyhole. You insert the key and turn it easily, the locks still not rusted after years of disuse.

You push the doors open, and they glide soundlessly apart until they strike the walls with a resounding bang. You march in with your blade resting lightly on your shoulder. Sree swoops through the large door, and circles up once more to the vaulted ceiling.

You hope the two remaining merlocks therein feel uneasy with a natural predator overhead.

And there are two merlocks, which is a bit of a crimp in your plans, but, at this point, you’re almost past caring. This temple has taken far too long to clear out already and you are ready to finish this fight one way or another.

You draw to a stop a short distance away from the Chieftain, and the much smaller cloaked figure of a warlock. Ha, a merlock warlock. That will be an interesting thing to kill.

The way the room is set up, there’s no way for you to sneak up on them, especially because they already know you’re here. But your dramatic entrance did serve a purpose. Tamamo went unseen by both Merlocks, now she’s hiding in the corner of the room, even you can barely make her out.

Both of the Merlocks are growling at you now, as you spin your sword into an easy ready positing.

Imbue our sword and rush the warlock.
The Chief will invariably try to intercept us, and we can let him.
With that distraction, Sree and Tamamo can get the Warlock; Sree diving at him to get him on the defensive, and Tamamo putting a dagger in his kidneys from behind.

You open your mouth to say something, anything really, to convince the two monsters in front of you to give up, go home, and let this all come to an end.

The word that comes out of your mouth is. “Die!” The stress must really be getting to you.

But all the same your left hand snaps out, firing off a bolt of lightning at your foes, even as you send another burst of it coursing down your blade. The Warlock slams his staff into the ground, and water erupts from the side channels. Your spell impacts the shield harmlessly, diffusing into the ground.

You’re forced to abandon the lightning bolt as the chieftain charges you, rusted sword held high. You just point at the wizard, letting your friends know who to target.

Sree dives, racking her claws across the Warlocks outstretched arms. Tamamo’s arrow, on the other hand, goes wide. Then the chief is upon you, sword arcing down.

You skip lightly out of the way, a grin forming on your face as his sword cleaves through the space you just were, all you did was move half a foot to the side and it was as good as if he missed you by a mile. Well… not quite as good, for him anyway.

The rusty sword it’s the ground with a shower of sparks, and you respond with some sparks or your own.

Well, that’s kind of a euphemism, for a lightning sword to the face. Not your fault though, really the merlock shouldn’t have left his guard wide open. He also shouldn’t have come to this temple, or brought a bunch of mooks with spears or a brute that slams people into walls. Because then you would have needed to deal with all of his gods forsaken bullshit.

Really, if you get right down to the heart of the matter, the poor chieftain really shouldn’t have been born.

Good thing that you’re correcting that minor mistake right now, with a lightning sword full of win right through the brain case.

The bastard is dead before he even knows what’s happening.

It’s smooth, effortless, elegant. Well, as elegant as a two handed sword can be. Especially because the blade shears right through and pops out the other side without any trouble at all.

With a yank the sword comes out, and you advance on the Warlock.

He’s busy trying to defend himself from your friends. How quaint.

You’re done. So is he actually, he just doesn’t know it yet.

[1/2]
>>
>>40592264
In fact, you don’t really think he ever knows it, as you take his head off of his shoulders with a single sweep of your blade.

Really, this moment couldn’t have been more perfect if it was scripted.

You weren’t even planning on hitting him back even! You were just going to let him spend his energy in a wild swing, and then blow him up with lightning after he made a fool of himself. Though, you suppose you shouldn’t mind that the two of them made fools out of themselves much faster than you anticipated.

That’s life. Or rather, that’s death for you.

You feel like you have the right to talk about it.

With a weary smile, you sheath the sword on your back. “Quest finished.” And you dare anyone. ANYONE in the multiverse, to tell you different.

“Actually child.” A soft voice calls from the throne (the previously empty throne at the center of the room). “There is one last thing that bears talking about.” Oh gods damn it all.

You turn. Sitting there is a woman, dressed in blue gossamer and silk which seems to ripple across her form like waves on a beach. Or perhaps like someone took all the rivers on the world, and wove them into thread just so they could spin the perfect dress.

You blink once, this is… unexpected.

“Fishy?” Sree asks, landing on your shoulder. “What are you looking at? No one’s there.”

Okay, so, thanks to the crit. We finished the battle much faster than originally intended. We can either call it here, or finish off this bit.

I’m pretty damn tired, but if you all are willing to stick around. I’ll push through and wrap up this arc tonight. So, who's up for potentially at least one more hour before we finally end things for the night?

So I said I was up for it, but the more I think about it, the more I realize how long this dialogue is gonna end up being... there's a lot of just talking that has to happen for both of you to be in character, and I'm not sure if I can do it justice right now.

And then there's also the compass and everything which needs to be addressed before you can truly finish the dungeon.

Okay, well, thank you for being so understanding everyone! But that's gonna be it for tonight.

10 hours after we started this afternoon, I declare RE: Human Quest episode six to be ended. And I will do my best to run again tomorrow.

Or baring that, Monday evening.

How'd it go friends?

Just a thought.
Maybe instead of a flat DC, or rolling a d100 for the enemy, you could give them a smaller custom die, depending on the difficulty of the creature.
(D60 for mooks, d80 for soldiers, d100s for bosses, etc.)
>>
>>40592473
Hmmmmm...
>>
>>40592473
That would only REALLY work if you eliminated crits for the mooks and soldiers. still, nice thought
